Online homework is difficult, but can be redone as many times as you like, and he tells you what problems you get right or wrong on your previous attempts, so you KNOW what you do or don't understand. It's not only a guarantee of a 100% on all homeworks (if you put in a little effort), it's also one of the best ways to use homework to study.
A little awkward, but hands down one of the nicest professors I've ever had. He tries his hardest to make sure everyone understands the material, and pauses every few minutes to ask if anyone has questions (which is saying something since there's 150 people in the class). 80% of your grade comes from 3 tests, so the class can be a bit tough.
Always stopped to ask if anyone had questions. Power points were on ksol and straight forward. Only three test and they're tricky, but if you come to class you should get at least a B
Overall not a bad teacher, I took this my first semester at K-State. You have to put the extra effort in to get a good grade. If you don't understand, get a tutor. He teaches straight from the powerpoint so copying down his notes is not going to benefit you if you don't learn anything. Some people buy the book to read from but he won't make you.
Awesome professor, really nice guy. He's classes are so straight forward and chill which is amazing especially when some professor's way of teaching are a mess. If you have the chance to take a class from him, do it.
Not an Econ student at all so the class was harder for me. The tests can be difficult I recommend getting a study group together. Overall a really cool guy and very accommodating to anything you may have missed. Go to class, he takes random attendance and it's all extra credit.
Hardest class ever! All you do in the lecture is read the slides (he does) and he'll occasionally stop and show you soccer videos. What is on the test is usually not what you go over in class and the homework is also super hard and he gives no feedback on it. Definitely wouldn't take again with him.
Good luck. Very bad at realizing when students do not understand. Gets defensive when you ask questions. Not an enjoyable class at all.
Really just an all around terrible professor. I do not recommend taking his class. He does not help you at all, he is hard to understand and he goes way too fast. WARNING YOU DO NOT TAKE. I only got a C because I worked my ass off all semester. Im an A student.
Ross is one of those professors who you can tell is very knowledgeable and passionate about the subject he teaches. However, he is just not that good at teaching. If you study outside of class and do the homework you should be fine, but he just doesn't get the information across in class very well. You get to watch soccer highlights in class though
Don't get me wrong, Dr. Ross is a very nice guy, and he is very passionate and knowledgeable about economics. However, his grading is way too tough and makes no sense. I received a 100 on all 6 HW assignments. a 60/100 on the first test, then a 90/100 on the second, then a 75/100 on the final and got a D in the class. What sense does that make?
This teacher works for me, because I am able to learn just from lectures. I didn't get the textbook, and I did not need it at all. Or you can get the old edition. Make sure to do the in class review and use the homework to practice for the test. Otherwise, he doesn't give much chance for practice, you have to find something else on your own.
I was scared about taking an economics class, however, the lecture slides go right along with the textbook so it is easy to follow along. The textbook is not required, but can be helpful for more information on certain topics that may need clarifying. He is always available for answering questions and I would definitely recommend this professor.
Great teacher, best out of all the Macro teachers, and goes through all of the notes in lecture. He uses a lot of econ terms and doesn't really give basic answers. Go to the reviews before test, they will help out a lot. He does take a little break in the middle of class and shows a 30 second long soccer highlight every class, but its cool.
He is a pretty bad teacher. Not good at presenting material to students, doesn't know when there is a lack of student understanding. He may know his stuff, but it certainly doesn't always show. Then he wastes class time with soccer highlight videos. Why?! The fact that he's getting paid to teach like that is moderately concerning.
Great professor. Makes everything really clear in his lectures. A little boring, but that's just how this class goes. Super easy tests, and he gives extra credit just for coming to class. He also takes a break halfway through each lecture to watch soccer highlights. Homework is online through Canvas, and you have unlimited tries. Take this class.
Kyle is not the worst professor, but he's not the best either. He only uses PowerPoints to lecture, which was not effective for how I learn best. He kind of expects you to understand general econ before taking the class and struggles with dumbing it down if you don't understand. Perks include: unlimited tries on homework, but that's about it.
In class he mostly just reads the slideshow, but if you go to class there are opportunities for up to 3 extra credit points on each exam. He doesn't teach that great and when tests come around gives a very general study guide. The only other thing to use to study is homeworks. Studying for tests is difficult because he doesn't give any resources.
Reads straight from slides. Lectures not very helpful to learn from but can get extra credit on random sign in days (max 3 per test). Homework is easy but barely effects your overall grade. Test are difficult will need to do a lot of outside studying. study guides very broad, don't really help for studying.
Run as if your GPA depended on it. Do not take with him. This is the hardest class I have taken at Kansas state and I am in my senior year. He lectures via PowerPoint which is cool however when you get to the test it is a whole new concept. I had a tutor that was helping me and I still could not pass each test. worst ever
80% on your exams 20% on homework ,, good luck with that lol
not very many things graded, drops lowest homework, fairly easy
I took his sports economics class, which was his first time teaching it. It should be called the economics of soccer. He has a strong passion for soccer so if that's you, then I recommend this class. If you enjoy baseball, football, or anything other than soccer, don't plan on enjoying this class.
Kyle Ross knows his stuff, but he struggles to teach it in a way that beginners in ECON will understand. The test are hard, and the 6 homework assignments take some time. It is not an easy class, so do not take this if that is what you want. Cannot wait to be done with it. Gives 3 extra credit points for attendance before each test, which did help.
Very passionate about soccer, every class he made us watch a couple of soccer highlights. He's a nice guy and very smart but i doesn't reach it very well for beginners.
He's an amazing teacher! His lectures are very informative and he explains it in a way you will understand. He gives the class a two minute break in the middle, usually soccer videos. There's three exams, you mostly need to understand the graphs. Extra credit is via attendance.
I loved having Kyle Ross for macro. He made sure to break up lectures so they didn't seem so long. There are only 6 homework assignments the whole semester and two tests and a final. If you pay attention in class you should be fine on the tests which are all MC. I never used the book. He will post everything online, so don't buy the book.
this class was the hardest class ive taken at k-state. Ross knows what hes talking about, and it shows, but he simply cannot teach in a way beginners can understand. he reads straight from the powerpoints, and his exams, while being multiple choice, include mostly hypothetical questions and are very difficult. avoid this class to save your gpa.
Kyle Ross is not a good teacher at all, reads straight from the powerpoint in a monotone voice, and did not offer any help whatsoever when I came to him with concerns.
Here's the thing: some people just don't get economics. The people that rate Prof. Ross low most likely didn't show up to class often or just don't get it. Kyle does his job fairly well and it's nice for him to have brain breaks via soccer videos. It's totally feasible to get an A if you put in the time and focus or just don't be an idiot.
Kyle Ross is a decent teacher for ECON 110, gives extra credit sometimes when you come to class and he does a random attendance check. Dry lecturer, very boring classes, if you dont go to class you have to go hard in the books. I didn't go to lecture for almost 3 weeks straight and just taught myself anything by reading lecture slides and online hw
Ross does a good job of explaining each of the topics in depth. He even draws out each graph and explains each step. His lectures may seem repetitive, but if you go to class you will get a better grade than if you skip and look at the PowerPoints online. He also gives breaks halfway through class and randomly takes attendance for extra credit.
Very dry lectures. 6 homeworks that you can do as many times to receive the grade you want, lowest one gets dropped but the questions can be really hard. My advice if you take this class is to find a study buddy. Gives extra credit in random attendance checks. This class you basically just learn a lot of graphs so be prepared to draw a lot in notes
Knows what he's talking about, but not good at teaching beginners. Don't take this class to save your GPA. There are some good parts of the class though, like being able to retake homework as many times as you like before the due date to get the best score you can get, and extra credit for showing up to class. But even then, it's super tough.
Knows what he's talking about but gives boring lectures. Obsessed with graphs for some reason even when it isn't relevant. Gives random extra credit for attendance.
WORST PROFESSOR AT K-STATE!! I can't wait for the day that this guy gets fired. He is extremely boring, does not explain the topics well, and is a jerk. Please, for your own good, avoid him at all costs. His obsession with soccer is actually concerning. Forever in my books as the worst professor I will ever have.
Kyle Ross is a smart man and knows a lot about economics, but his style of teaching is the most boring style I have EVER witnessed. 10/10 would not recommend this course if you haven't learned about economics before. There are 6 assignments and 3 exams. You do not have a chance to get your grade up, besides random extra credit attendance points.
Go to class and pay attention. He teaches fast and talks about soccer.
Worst prof at KSU and knows it, even laughed about it during the first day of class. Curves the class so much since everyone bombs the tests, but even then it doesn't save your grade. Gives like 2 extra credit points out for attendance which doesn't help either. HW's are long and pointless. Take this class from anyone else!!
Seems like a decent enough person but I questioned his odd decision to attend class in a pink bra and panties on occasion! He said it was an "homage to his grandmother"? Um okay, cool, but not appropriate for teaching!!
Kyle is a great teacher and is passionate about Sports Economics. His HW is very hard and time consuming but there are only 3. He goes over HW before each test and is very similar to the tests. Go to class because he likes to play videos and take attendance for quizzes.
Taken online. 6 homeworks and 3 tests. Never used the textbook. Moves through his content quickly. Makes it easy to miss key concepts and feel lost. He will try and help if you reach out on the discussion boards. I used outside sources to study. Your grade reflects the amount of effort you put in. If you try you will pass. Discussions are mandatory
Homework can all be found online and is easy, but tests are VERY hard! He does curve the class a lot but still very hard to get a good grade. The average test grades for most exams was around a 60% if that tells you anything
Extra credit offered through random attendance check. I always just crammed the night before and got an A in the class fairly easily. Nice guy and have brain breaks every day
Sports Econ is a little different from his macro class. However, make sure to start the homeworks early and find help if need be. Especially with the homeworks at the end of the semester. Make sure you know your microecon, a lot of the class is applied Marginal Revenue and Marginal Costs as is all econ.
WORST PROFESSOR IN THE HISTORY OF MACROECON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This guy NEVER answers questions and does not teach ANYTHING (he just reads off a powerpoint). If asked a question he says "Uhhhh um well I don't really know how to answer that" or "Uhhhh that doesn't really apply to what we were talking about" even though it absolutely does. DO NOT TAKE
Got a concussion the night before a test. Went in to talk to him & he said I take it or get a zero ( I wasnt allowed to test for 7 weeks). I made it through the test and had to leave it made me so sick. Since tests are weighted so much there was no way to pass & it was passed time to drop. The man has no sympathy and does not care about students.
Dr. Ross seems to have an attitude when students ask questions. He will make you feel like an idiot. Moreover, he does not explain things well and does not seem to care about his students. I would strongly advise not taking a class with him.
Just reads off of a power point, and it makes it hard to pay attention for the full 50 minutes. Only six assignments and unlimited attempts on them, plus three exams so the course work isn't heavy but the exams can be tough if you don't show up to class.
Only have 6 homework assignments over the semester. The exams are multiple choice but the are worded oddly and only have 35 questions on them (so if you miss 3, you're already down a letter grade). He doesn't answer questions, and just reads straight off the powerpoints. Not a very good teacher. Sometimes gives EC to those who show up for class.
he doesnt answer class questions correctly
Be prepared to study your ass off. Ross is so oblivious when lecturing and goes off topic. This man has no sympathy for his students, if you miss anything theirs no way to make up for it even if you go to coma. He dont give af.
The homework is easy because you get unlimited retakes, and the tests are simple enough as long as you take the time to study.
This class makes me want to cry. Technically, there is no attendance taken but he does have pop quizzes that count as your attendance. He walks around the room and writes down 100+ names to make sure nobody else took the quiz who wasnt there and if you did you get an XF. Tests are difficult and the homework is just annoying. Be prepared to study!
DO NOT TAKE! He doesn't teach you anything! He makes you feel stupid for asking a question and doesn't even answer it! He moved all tests online (open note/book) which helped but they are still confusing. Pop quizzes in class that he says are "super easy" - they are not easy. Don't buy the book, idk why he even assigns it. Worst teacher I ever had.
I highly think Dr. Ross means well and he is a decent person but he sometimes makes you feel dumb for asking questions and his answers are not clear. Unlike other classes, there is no extra credit. While there are only three exams, they were given online, open book open note. They are extremely difficult, and not like the homework as he says.
Dont take his class. He reads directly off the slides and if you dont catch what he says in time (and he talks fast), youll get left behind and he has no sympathy. If you ask questions, be prepared for him to make you feel stupid. Tests are hard and material is confusing. He wont answer emails either so if you need help, dont even bother.
People who don't like Prof. Ross probably didn't go to class. When we went from normal class to online bc corona, Prof. Ross was really approachable and willing to help. He interacted with us during the zoom meetings and helped us out. He will notice you if you put in the work and will help you out. He really isn't that bad, just go to class...
Ross is a very hard professor to approach if you have questions. Luckily the content of this class is rather easy. If you can, get Dr. Kuester as a professor instead.
I took macro with professor Ross after already taking micro economics (a bit backwards) and he confused me more by his teaching style- over material I had already learned. He wants to let everyone know he's the smartest in the room and that gets in the way of him teaching simple concepts to his students. I taught myself the material mostly.
You must pay attention and be present for lectures or watch online if you want to pass. There is no extra credit opportunities whatsoever so make sure you take pretty good notes. The homework assignments have unlimited attempts so it's a free 20 points for each HW assignment, but quizzes are 10 points always. Also theres 3 exams, not rly a final...
Not a bad professor, just didn't offer help in the slightest. Read straight from lecture slides and that was how he taught. If you ask questions, be prepared to be made fun of for not understanding.
He seems to only be teaching to establish himself as the smartest person in the room. He uses the difficulty and the students lack of understanding, mostly due to him being a horrible teacher, to feed his ego and further convince himself that he is the smartest person in the room. I would highly recommend finding a different professor
Hes okay. Lectures are pretty boring and uneventful. The tests are pretty difficult. Take good notes so that you can refer back to them for tests and assignments. The material and assignments are Very accessible. He also gives random days off for working outside class so thats a bonus.
Very bad at explaining things, tests are over things not discussed, many test questions are left very general so it is hard to pick one answer. Overall bad teacher that makes kids who ask questions seem dumb.
He offered in person, zoom, or you could watch the video of class, so I stopped going to class after a few weeks. There is a ton of quizzes and homeworks but only 3 tests. He doesnt explain topics well and includes things on the quizzes that we didnt go over in class. Not super helpful answering questions and harder than the other professors.
This class isn't hard, but Kyle sure made it hard. Read directly from slides and gives out "easy" quizzes and homeworks... They aren't easy at all. The exams are even harder and there's no format for studying if you try. Just find a different professor. This one will make your semester miserable.
Was not a fan of Kyle and how he teaches. He makes people feel dumb for asking questions. The material on the exams and quizzes are usually different than what he actually teaches. He just reads through slides, so it gets boring. One good thing about this class is that he records the whole lecture and posts it on canvas, which is convenient.
Do not go to class it is pointless. He likes to have discussions, which is fine, but they take all class and they are completely irrelevant to the subject. His tests are math-heavy and he does not even teach how to do the homework because he is too focused on having pointless discussions.
His lectures are boring, but if you pay attention you will know most of what will be on the test. Homeworks are unlimited attempts and he gives you the answers to the section review questions (no grade). Be ready to take his short quizzes because they are timed. If you pay attention and attempt to understand concepts, you will get a good grade.
Just pretty embarrasing.
Made it harder than it needed to be
His quizzes and tests are online, and they all follow the notes. You really don't need to attend class because of this. All he does is go over notes, so lectures can be boring, but I didn't mind it. Just be ready to take notes.
The class is designed in a way that makes it very easy to pass. All exams are open book/notes/canvas. He is not always the best at explaining but his class is pretty easy and requires very little work to do outside of class.
I wouldnt freak out if you get him. His lectures are super boring but all his test and quizes are online which makes this class alot easier. My critique of him is that the test are super math heavy but he doesnt really go over the math very much which doesn't make any sense. if their is other options i would recommend choosing them
I was enrolled in a MWF lecture and the attendance was not mandatory. He also zoomed all the classes and provided recordings of classes, quiz reviews and exams on Canvas. Provided we had a lot of quizzes in the class but he gave us days off from classes to make up for the time we spent. Class isn't hard if you study decently. Exams were online.
Kyle Ross's macroecon class if full of math. Beware if you are bad at math.
Lectures are boring, but watching them in person or on Zoom is crucial. He also makes a review video of the Practice Quizzes before the online test which really helps to watch as it usually follows the Mastery Quiz (online test) very closely. Not the best class but definitely passable, and he's also very willing to answer questions.
Kyle Ross is a super easy teacher and you do not have to attend class because he records the lectures and posts them online along with the slides and review problems. He also zooms each class which is super nice! Overall, the assignments are all really easy and everything can be taken from home, including the tests.
If you are thinking about taking his class while balancing a job DO NOT his class requires too much time if you have any other commitments
I am required to take an economics class for my major and was terrified going into this class because I am horrible at math-based questions. If this is you, take economics with Mr. Ross!! The lectures posted on Canvas are so helpful, and the homework was never overwhelming or too complex to understand. I have no complaints!
Not sure why ya'll are dogging on this guy. Honestly it was a super easy class you just have to watch the lectures, take notes, and know how to do elementary math.
