She takes pleasure in imposing her opinions on you, ie: "That may be true in other classes, but not in MY class." If you don't buy into what she thinks, expect a lower grade. She fancies herself as an omnipotent being. . .enough said.
Prof Turley is a no nonsense teacher. She recognizes that this is a nationally recognized university, and not just a church-recognized, and therefore makes the class worth it in a mostly academic sense, although opening prayers are given and it is ok to bring the church into discussion. She is very helpful, and everything done is for a purpose.
Amazing teacher! Expect to work for your grade though. I learned so much from this class! She is more than willing to help if you ask, and gives you every chance to do well. The structure of this class worked very well for me too.
Wicked hard class. She's brilliant and helpful, will make you work like crazy for your grade. It took me a while to like her or her class, but it turned out well (except I STILL hate Flannery O'Connor because of this class) the textbooks were great, and honestly, this woman knows how to teach.
Professor Turley was great. She is extremely knowledgeable and genuinely interesting in helping her students.
Really tough at first. I didn't really appreciate the style of writing, but it is department curriculum. Professor Turley knows her stuff and will make you work hard. I ended up liking it in the end even though it was a little stressful.
Great teacher, but is hard. Had for Wrtg 150H and enjoyed the class but she can be a strict grader on papers. Learned a ton though.
Pretty good teacher. Interested in her students. A little bit boring at times, but I would still recommend her.
She is one of THE BEST teachers I've had at BYU. She is so genuine, cares for her students, & provides tons of opportunities for help. There are a lot of assignments, but they are all super easy (except for the 3 big unit essays, they're kinda tough). Go talk to her several times before turning in unit essays to get her feedback & you'll do great!
She is awesome. Take this class from her. The unit essays are hard, but she offers a lot of help! She is super fair with grading too especially when it comes to grammar.
She is my favorite professor to date. She had tons of office hours and was always willing to help. The papers were difficult, but no one said college is supposed to be easy. The class really improved my writing.
Professor Turley cares about students and is extremely helpful. She'll rearrange her schedule to meet with you anytime. Your grade is based on about 10 small writing assignments (outlines, etc). and also 4 major papers. Easy semester!
I took my 2 English GE's ( Lit of LDS and Persuasive WRTG) with Prof. Turley and I thoroughly enjoyed both classes. Yes, for lit of LDS there's a lot of reading but it's interesting and has helped my life. She's an awesome professor who really cares about students and will definitely help you if you need it! Take a class from Kylie!!!!!!
Professor Turley is great at what she does! She is an excellent writer and knows how to teach. She also is very willing to work with you. It's obvious that she deeply cares about her students and the importance of teaching good writing skills. Take writing from her if you can!
Sister Turley is best Writing/English teacher I've ever had!!! She made writing fun!! You have 5-6 major essays throughout the Semester and she will schedule extra time to give her input. Lectures were always phenomenal and she sincerely wants you to succeed! I can write out an essay more clearly, organized, and efficiently because of her!
Sister Turley is amazing. And I'm not just saying that. I never get on here and rate professors but I feel you should all know that this woman is incredible. She is a great teacher, she is SO willing to work with us. I mean, for heaven sakes, she realized we were so busy with finals that she didn't make us take our final! She is compassionate!
Prof Turley isn't clear on her expectations or her grading style. She is very vague and grades hard. She is really caring and knows her stuff, you have a ton to read and lots of little assignments that pop up last minute. If you talk to her in person she is easier to understand, but I wouldn't depend on her instructions for a good grade.
Its definitely possible to get an A in this class because she offers a lot of extra credit. Theres not too much hw, and doesnt make us take any tests. She does grade tough on her essays though. It was a participation based class, but I felt that nobody wanted to participate.
Disclaimer: There's a lot of reading and she is somewhat disorganized, BUT she is so understanding. She involves the class in the grading process, and she gives you a lot of options to cater to your learning style. There are two essays: an exegetical and a creative nonfiction. The class changed my view of the gospel and what LDS literature means.
Do yourself a favor, take Turley's class. She's sweet, caring, an amazing writer, and inspirational. Her lessons are well crafted and interesting. The homework load isn't overwhelming, and she's willing to negotiate deadlines. Occasionally she allows the class to bring food. I would take her class again in a heartbeat!
Sister Turley is incredible. I came to class the first day and was super overwhelmed and terrified when I saw the course load, but it ends up being far more manageable than you would ever guess. Her essays are actually applicable to real life and the discussions in class are incredible. I would recommend this class for everyone, love Sister Turley!
SUCH A GREAT CLASS!!! IT WILL CHANGE THE WAY YOU SEE THE WORLD!! Prof Turley is one of the BEST professors I've had. Accessible. Caring. Pushes you to think deeper. Not a writing class especially--just a thinking class.
One year after taking this class, I had to get on here to say... I think Prof. Turley is about the best professor at BYU. You will never have another professor who cares so much for the students. I mean, really cares about you as a whole human--not just your performance or your writing, but who you are. Wish all the profs at BYU were like her!
Professor Turley was great. I really enjoyed her class. I took it for general education requirement, and ended up feeling like I got a lot out of it. She cares about her students and the class, she can seem a bit quiet, but is really relatable. I would take her class again no questions. She is a fair grader.
Ok I actually took a religion class with prof Turley, but I despise it as of right now. She makes the quizzes insanely difficult and asks questions about irrelevant information. I seriously write down everything she says in class and even with open note quizzes I get bad grades. One person has an A in the class.
Professor Turley is a very kind person but if I had the chance to take her religion course again I would hands down not do it. The quizes were ridiculous- they were open note and open slide, but that was if she had even posted the lecture slides. Even taking detailed notes in class, she would ask the most random questions about some obscure detail.
DO NOT take a religion class from her! Overall she was a pleasant Prof.; I could see her being an amazing linguistics profs.. But as a religion prof., she's awful. The amount of false doctrine taught in that class was insane and you would be tested on all of it. The quizzes were IMPOSSIBLE; the class average was normally 60%-70%. Projects were easy
You can do great! Everyone tells you that the quizzes are very hard (it's hard to know what's going to be on the quiz) She is very clear and organized. Go to every class period and you will learn so much. Also most people who didn't do as well on the quizzes didn't do assigned readings (not that bad) You do not have to be smart, just do the work(:
Professor Turley is a really sweet professor, and I can see her being a great English teacher, but I wouldn't recommend her class for religion, it felt like more literary analysis than teaching and discussing the doctrine. Her quizzes were hard, but she gave SO MUCH extra credit and was willing to meet outside of class and help!! Had to work for A.
She is so experienced, and really knows her stuff! If you communicate with her, this class will help you with an easy course load. She's the best!
Gives quizzes with questions on irrelevant details of the Book of Mormon such as "In which chapter did Nephi use the most inclusive pronouns?" or "how many times did Alma ask a question over the course of his ministry?" Didn't respond when most of the class asked her to stop focusing on literary devices. In general, avoid if possible.
Prof Turley was amazing! Her class was difficult for me, but I learned so much and am looking for other classes to take from her. She has a unique teaching style and perspective on scripture as she also teaches English (which I love). She is very easy to work with and wants you to get a good grade!Tons of extra credit opportunities and extra help!
She is sooo bad with technology. So obnoxious having to walk your teacher through how to do basic skills. The tests are also super specific about the most ridiculous things. You have to memorize pretty much every minute thing on her slides. Wouldn't recommend.
Prof Turley honestly seems like a nice person and a great English teacher, but I was taking Religion. She focuses on grammar and single words of the Book of Mormon. Being very nit-picky. In the two days I was in class we didn't go over any part of the story of First Nephi, instead we were lectured about commas and the literary elements of Nephi 1:1
Professor Turley is a good person and I'm sure a great English professor. However, I wouldn't take her again she focuses too much on the random literary elements and not always the spirit of the scriptures. Our class was doing so badly on the tests with an average of a d consistently. She did offer so much extra credit which brought my grade up.
Professor Turley is amazing! She is super kind and has lots of great insights on LDS literature. She is totally willing to help you on papers and quizzes and offers many opportunities to help you out. I took this class for my letters requirement and it was a great experience. Prof Turley is awesome!
I loved Professor Turley. She helped me so much during her office hours with anything I needed. You can tell she loves the class and cares for the students. I think everyone should take this class. As long as you do all the readings and participate in class, you will do good.
Professor Turley is there for you to have a good experience with this class. If you don't understand assignments or feel like the schedule or assignments aren't working for you, let her know and she'll work with you. You have to attend class and you should read before every class but it's not a lot of reading.
Professor Turley is very nice and she is willing to work with her students when they need help. The class overall was a good class! There are different units, scriptures, fiction, drama, creative nonfiction, and poetry. There are a lot of smaller assignments and 2 main essays. The essays weren't too bad, our class had a writing fellow for help.
I love Professor Turley! She is very willing to work with you & give feedback. There are lots of readings, but they're worth it. It's a small class, so very discussion-based. The quizzes were hard. I felt that there were things we didn't learn about, but they are open-note, and she offers quiz repentance. Overall, I would recommend this course.
Professor Turley was a great instructor who provided plenty of opportunities to learn about LDS Literature. If you enjoy reading, this is definitely a class for you. If you don't like coming to class, look elsewhere. Professor Turley kind of struggles to explain complex concepts in a clear way, but she does a good enough job.
I usually dislike english classes, but this class resparked my interest in writing! Sometimes the class lectures can feel long, but if you participate, there is a lot to learn. Professor Turley cares a lot about students and will meet outside of class. The quizzes were hard and unnecessarily specific, but were open note and there's extra credit.
Prof Turley is a greater teacher and person. She was very willing to work with students when things came up and give us chances to put forth our best work. Sometimes assignment guidelines were a little unclear but she provided great learning opportunities through discussions and guest speakers. Overall a great class!
This class quickly became a favorite because of how knowledgeable and passionate Prof Turley is- she is an expert in her field and it is amazing to learn from her. She also brings in authors to talk about their writing after we read their work, which I loved. Choose to do the readings and be genuinely engaged, and you will do great in this class.
Professor Turley is so caring and knowledgeable. She introduced me to new perspectives and ways to look at the scriptures and literature in general. She loves her students and is always willing to meet with you if you have any questions or concerns.
This class was one of my most interesting classes this semester. I genuinely enjoyed participating in the lectures and doing the readings. You will need to dedicate time to doing the readings if you want to be successful in this class. Overall, great class, great professor, lots of good and interesting readings required.
She is one of the most caring professors I have ever had. She is always open during office hours and will help you out with your essays. The readings are actually so interesting and I looked forward to coming to class each day. There are only 2 major essays so if you don't like writing, please take literature of the LDS.
Professor Turley really cares about her students! She was generous with the quizzes, but I didn't feel very well prepared for them. She is also a great writer. I wouldn't expect to write an average paper and get a great grade. The class isn't just about reading poems from Restoration times, we looked at modern LDS authors as well.
I took the Book of Mormon course from her and loved it--best religion course yet. The quizzes were challenging (I think they're a lot easier now), but there were plenty of extra credit opportunities to get an A. The lectures were interesting and spiritual, and Professor Turley really cares about her students. Take her class if you can!
- Quizzes can be difficult but as long as you pay attention in class and take notes you should be good.
Dr. Turley was amazing; it is clear she puts tremendous amount of effort into making the class meaningful and relevant. Also workload was super manageable; main homework is just reading the BoM for an amount of time that you set, with weekly quizzes over material. While you can miss a couple classes and be ok, if you miss most you will not do well.
Professor Turley is a kind and caring person who truly cares for her students. I enjoyed listening to her lectures and learning about the Book of Mormon from her perspective, but I didn't enjoy being quizzed and tested on it. The assignments aren't too bad as long as you attend and pay attention in class.
Professor Turley is a great person who really knows her stuff, and I learned a lot. But, I felt like it was very unclear what I should be studying/learning, and a lot of times we focused on things that felt very random to me like grammar/punctuation. Also, the students make the quizzes and ask the hardest/most random stuff.
only complaint: quiz questions come from students, so they can be unpredictable/unclear Otherwise, Prof. Turley is very knowledgeable and has lots of insight. She's passionate about the Book of Mormon and really helped me to understand the material. Would definitely recommend her class.
She is AWESOME, but do not sign up if you don't want your mind BLOWN. She makes you feel like a genius while expanding your mind in the process. It's incredible. You'll learn things you've never even thought of before, and you'll come up with ideas you never thought of before. 100/10!!!!!!!!
If you enjoy in-class discussions take Prof. Turley. I gained so much insight about the Book of Mormon from her and her enthusiasm for the gospel is infectious! However, I did not like the many personal readings which for me felt more like an English class than a religion class. Overall I loved the class, I just didn't like the homework.
Professor Turley is an amzing teacher and author! She teaches in an open, geuine way. There were more readings than expected, but they were engaging and fun to read. Make sure you keep track of all the little assingments, sometimes she does not remind you about due dates. You will get so much out of this class if you put in the effort!
Professor Turley is good at helping students who indicate a need for help. She can be long winded at times, but is good at writing and cares deeply about her students. A little bit of a boring class for a handful of us students, but good overall.
Really good English class even for those who are not good at English or writing. All the reading feels helpful in learning the concepts but still not too much. There are lots of resources for big assignments. NOTE: Always double-check things some rubrics/ assignment directions are not the clearest.
Professor Turley is so amazing and I loved going to her class. This is a very heavy reading class, and it's important you actually do the reading. Lots of professors have you do reading then never discuss it - not the case. You will discuss almost every reading you do. Prof Turkey helps you become a better reader and writer for sure
Professor Turley is great! I loved taking her class, she is caring and respectful to all students. She challenges you as a student and as a writer, but is aware that it can be challenging. She does everything she can to help students have a good semester and get a good grade, while learning a lot from the course.
Professor Turley cares about her students and was very flexible to our needs. There were 2 major essays and a lot of reading for homework. Her lectures were interesting and she would have guest authors come and speak to the class after we read their work. She would also give you personal feedback on your essays. Overall a good GE class !
Professor Turley is very kind and very caring. I think the content in this class is really interesting as well. However, the work load was a decent amount more than what I thought the class was worth. It was interesting and I liked some of the content, I just wish the organization was a bit better.
There was always a lot of readings for each day. They were super interesting, but it was a lot. There were two large papers and also a lot of small papers to write about author visits that were pretty confusing to write. Professor Turley taught really well and knows her stuff. It's a super interesting class, just a lot of work.
Took this class for a Letters GE. It was a bit more work than I was expecting. But I loved the assigned books and readings! Got to meet authors in person and ask them questions. Extra Credit is available. Two 8-pg papers (takes effort, but doable). Our writing fellow was a great help! Prof. Turley is kind, engaging, and truly wants you to succeed!
She is amazing and super nice! Her tests are a bit difficult, looking for obscure information like a specific date that a quote was given, kind of random and not really applicable. It also takes her a while to submit grades. However, she is really nice and caring. Highly recommend if you want a good teacher and don't mind difficult homework.
Professor Turley is a teacher who cares a lot about your success and learning. I took it for the letters credits and it was quite a bit of work but I learned some interesting things. She is always willing to meet with you and the writing fellow is too which is so helpful. Lots of readings and writing!
Wonderful course and professor! She is always willing to help out if you need it. She makes difficult concepts entertaining and easy to grasp. I would definitely recommend!
Professor Turley is amazing and really cares about your learning!!!! She is totally willing to work with you if you want her help. If you are willing to put in the work you will get whatever grade you want. She will tailor it towards you. She is very respectful and understanding of her students. She will adapt to your needs. She offers extra credit
Professor Turley was a great professor. For me, I found that we talked a lot about the factual evidence, which was great, but sometimes, too much focus on it made it difficult for me to focus on overall concepts. But, overall, I love her teaching style.
I loved learning from Professor Turley! The assignments in this class are something that I am going to apply for the rest of my life. Her lectures are fun and spiritual. The only hard part about this class is that there are a lot of reading assignments, but overall, I loved this course.
Professor Turley's LDS Literature class was full of learning opportunities, and it isn't hard content. The workload is manageable, but will take quite a bit of time out of your week, thus where the difficulty rating of 3 comes in.
She is so sweet! Interesting content. The papers you write (takes some work but manageable) were inspiring to work on. Her quizzes are a little weird with some specific answers that are hard to find. Extra credit, but hard to attend sometimes with late notice. She and writing consultant can meet with you and are a ton of help! Great GE class!
Dr. Turley is fantastic. She's very knowledgeable and willing to adjust as needed. The readings are interesting, but the assignments can be a lot. They're not unreasonable, but they are a little intense for a class so many people take as a GE. If you're willing to write a lot and engage with the texts, you'll probably do well, but be ready to work.
Professor Turley is an expert in Book of Mormon history and focuses on a literary analysis of the tests. Quizzes in class are authored by the students and are not difficult. Her class is designed to be easy, but also very educational. You'll get out of it what you put into it.
Prof Turley is one of the kindest people I've ever met. You can tell that her top priority is her students' success and wellbeing. Only two major papers in this course, which were both clearly explained in class. She gives an option between an exam and an essay at the end of each unit, which lets you choose which works best with your learning style
She is so sweet but sometimes her lectures can get a little boring. I loved it when she brought in guest speakers though. She really does care.
Super nice professor. She cares about her subject and is very knowledgeable. Lectures basically every class which got a little old. I basically was there to get the attendance points. I did learn a lot more than I thought I would. It was an interesting class and it definitely pushed me to improve my writing. Lots of reading for each class though.
The class was different than what I expected but ended up being good. She is a tough grader on essays though.
I love Kylie Turley! She is more than willing to accommodate assignments, work one on one and help students to succeed in her class.
Professor Turley is very caring! She wants everyone to succeed and will help each individual if they reach out. Some assignments were a little confusing as to what she was expecting, and she grades kinda tough. But she is always willing to help so reach out and meet with her!
I love Kylie! She is so kind. At first I was a bit intimidated by her and the course, but she is actually incredibly kind. She is very easy on grading and offered a lot of extra credit opportunities. I would definitely take her class again.
Professor Turley is about the kindest professor you will get. She is very knowledgable about literature, and teaches very simply. The class was semi-difficult, but I am happy I took it
Professor Turley is really sweet and kind. The class was kinda slow and boring sometimes, but I learned some interesting things about LDS Literature. 2 major papers take some time, and some quizzes/smaller papers about every other week. She's good about working with you to succeed in the class.
Professor Turley is a good lecturer, and her classes are very detailed. There was a lot of reading throughout the semester, as well as two significant papers. She is tough on the grading scale. Her instructions for the assignments are also very unclear sometimes, and it can be hard to know exactly what she expects. She is kind and tries to help.
Professor Turley is very kind and helpful! She wants students to be successful and makes getting a good grade as easy as possible. The most difficult thing about this class was that she was kind of unorganized. Some due dates and requirements for assignments weren't clear, and it was hard to know what to expect in the class.
She's super kind and very willing to meet with students outside of class to give them tips on their papers. We were given various, easy extra credit opportunities. My main struggle was the amount of reading for homework, but it's not too bad if plan it out. Very helpful when you reach out.
Her REL A 275 class was a lot of fun with a lot of really cool insights. However, if you want to pass the class you have to be writing down everything she says, making it hard to internalize and consider what she's teaching, since there are no study guides or clear indications of what content is tested on. Also, those quizzes come out of nowhere.
This class is enjoyable, discussion based, and involves a decent amount of outside class reading. There are two major essays, but they were enjoyable to write. Also, Professor Turley brings in authors of the different readings to speak to the class! Professor Turley genuinely cares about her students, and is willing to work with you!
Professor Turley is amazing. Hands down this has been my favorite class at BYU. She is very kind and very workable. There are 2 big papers in the semester in which she does give aheads up. If you start working on them quickly it makes them easier. She doesn't have a textbook but she does have assigned books to read.
Professor Turley challenges you to read the Book of Mormon in a new light. The assignments and grading criteria are made clear, and she is incredibly willing to help you learn and succeed.
Professor Turley is one of the sweetest human beings. She is very soft spoken and passionate about the things she teaches. The class requires A LOT of reading, but they're all interesting, and the in class discussions about them are great! She also has authors come in and talk about their work which was cool to experience.
There are a lot of books you need to read for the class, but you can get away with renting all of them from the library if you time it right. There are a lot of readings due before each class, but they are all so interesting that you'll want to read them anyway. She loves her students and has a sweet & genuine spirit. Take Prof. Turley for sure!!
Professor Turley is really great! She really cares about you and wants to help you really learn. Great at teaching us how to appreciate LDS literature!
Sister Turley is unlike any religion professor I've ever had. She has such a different approach to studying scripture that was both inspirational and refreshing. The class was much smaller than any lecture hall style religion class. It was much more academic and discussion based. She is incredibly intelligent and gives really interesting readings.
She is really kind, but I felt confused about what was going on all semester long. Getting grades back also took forever, so I was always worried that I wasn't meeting expectations.
Professor Turley is very sweet! She loves what she teaches. The expectations of the class and the assignments weren't the most clear. As far as grading goes, it took a while to see what I got on assignments. Some of the exams had information on them that I don't remember learning. Communication is key!
She does a good job teaching you how to study the Book of Mormon so if that's what you want then this is a good class for you. She'll make you do quite a few random study methods you might like or dislike.
She was a fairly good teacher and could teach the material. However, there were many quizzes where the information on the quiz wasn't lectured on, and she didn't post her notes. But the material she did cover was good
Professor Turley is a great religion professor. She genuinely cares about her students. The hardest parts are the quizzes. Some of the questions we didn't learn. But there are a lot of opportunities to get grades up.
She's a good professor and is very knowledgeable about the Book of Mormon! She makes cool connections that I'd never thought of before. However, sometimes the quizzes had questions that we hadn't covered in class yet, that we never covered or covered after already taking the quiz. Overall it wasn't too much work.
She is an amazing person and she truly wants what's best for everyone! She's so willing to make exceptions and help you out in any way she can! Only thing, the quizzes are very challenging, but she makes the class worth taking!100% would recommend her because of her knowledge and her insights and allowing the spirit to testify of what she's saying!
Her love for Christ and His teachings fills the classroom. Homework is not too difficult. Toughest part: the quiz questions. They felt misleading and more focused on speculations than hardcore truths about the Book of Mormon, which was unfortunate. Some questions are focused on super small things stated in class, note taking every word is crucial.
Professor Turley is a great teacher, but I had a hard time understanding her class. Often we wouldn't get through all the slides in class. Her quizzes are also difficult to plan for, so just try to take careful notes. She has a great testimony and is a great person, but I didn't connect with her teaching as much.
Professor Turley is a great teacher! She has lots of cool insights about the Book of Mormon that I have never thought of before her class. The quizzes in her class are open note but they are still pretty hard and take a lot of studying to get a good score. The organization of her class is confusing. She doesn't explain assignments very well.
I really liked Professor Turley for the most part. She is very kind and caring. However, the organizational aspect was all over the place and assignments/quizzes were unclear and confusing.
She knows a lot about what she teaches and gives a lot of information quickly about various topics. Entirely through lectures and slideshows, though there are occasional minor activities in class. She does speak really softly though, so sitting towards the front is probably wise, and you need to write everything she says down.
Professor Turley! Is actually amazing, you can see her love for the gospel and that was something that motivate me to keep going to class. I don't know if im the only one but she sometimes speek very low and I couldn't understand her sometimes, but I know the effort that she put in every class.
Professor Turley is so amazing! Her BoM class is meant to be as intellectual as it is spiritual, so it will not be for everyone. How deeply she expects you to analyze BoM & the tests can be sort of scary, but the Spirit is so strong every class & she LOVES the BoM & her students. If you want to learn how to REALLY study the BoM, take this class!
Professor Turley is very sweet, knowledgeable, and funny. There were some things on the quizzes that I don't remember learning though. Sometimes things are not always explained very clearly. She took a while to grade things. She did offer some extra credit though and definitely cares deeply about her students and the gospel.
this class exposed me to a lot of different study techniques that have shown me how I can get more out of my scripture study. professor turley has such a strong love for the gospel and does a good job conveying that. her quizzes can be very specific so write down pretty much everything she says but the tests and other assignments are not hard
Professor Turley cares a lot for her students. As far as assignments go there aren't many: 2 major essays, a few unit quizzes, and a couple other things here and there. She also offers alternative assignments instead of taking traditional quizzes which is awesome. She takes forever to grade things but is otherwise very accommodating.
Professor Turley is a sweet soul whose love for what she does is contageous in her teaching. Make sure you do the readings for each class! There are a couple books throughout the semester and a lot of other readings that are linked on Learning Suite. There is built in support throughout the class, as long as you go and do the work you will be ok!
Professor knows a lot about the subject and is kindhearted, but the quizzes and midterms were confusing. Some questions are subjective or worded confusing. Attend every lecture and listen attentively, taking notes of everything she says and every slide is essential to passing.
Professor Turley is very knowledgeable about the structure and setting of the Book of Mormon, and it is evident within each lecture. Very flexible when it comes to needing support on assignments. Lots of materials within slides, so make sure to take clear notes! Quizzes and exams were somewhat confusing and relied a lot on lecture material.
It's clear that she has put incredible amounts of time and effort into understanding the scriptures and her literary background provided some insights that have changed my perception of the book in awesome ways. I was sometimes confused by expectations around what was due and when but she's flexible and easy to get a hold of to clear things up!
She loves her job & puts real effort into it. Class is relatively easy, especially if you know a lot about Book of Mormon structure. She expects you to study daily & track it in your study journal but it's not hard if you keep up with it. She gives sweet and spirit-filled lectures. Quizzes aren't hard, but sometimes there are some random questions.
Professor Turley is so sweet! One thing I really appreciated about her was that she is willing to meet the student wherever they are at, and help them get to where they desire. I think the course could have been a little more organized, but overall she is a really solid professor.
Very good class! Highly recommend to take for a general. She makes it applicable to our lives and cares about the students actually getting something from her class!
Professor Turley is so awesome. Truly one of the most caring professors I have ever had. There's lots of tests that are only open for 36 hours, which is somewhat hard to work around. But she is super willing to work with her students, so any confusion or problems get cleared up super easily. I'd recommend her to literally anyone.
Good professor, some of the quizzes and midterms have really specific details you'll only know if you pay really close attention. Don't miss class and don't zone out or you'll miss those points!
Clearly cares about the work she is teaching and that interest inspires her students.
Professor Turley is incredibly kind and well-qualified for this course. She would bring in amazing guest speakers. It is an English class, so there is a lot of reading and writing. However, the content and papers are meaningful. I also loved that she (not a TA) graded each of our major papers and gave us personal feedback.
Literal angel. If you aren't an abstract thinker, this class may not be fun and may be confusing, but she does her best to help you grow spiritually while also learning about LDS literature. She does whatever she can to help you get a good grade. Sometimes, I was like "what is the point of this" but most everything i learned was interesting.
Great professor. It is a little difficult to hear her if you sit in the back, but her passion for what she teaches is contagious.
Great teacher really enjoyed this class. I loved how she taught the class really helps you learn how to better study the book of mormon. Lectures are important, take good notes it will be helpful on the quiz. Just make sure you check learning suite often and go to class lots of participation points come from being in class.
She was very willing to help me set and meet my goals for the class. She inspired me to challenge myself and try new things optimistically. She showed that she really cares about students as individuals.
Professor Turley is very knowledgable professor! She really cares about the learning of the students. The class is lecture heavy and the quizzes can be difficult sometimes but as long as you take notes it should be good. Can recommend.
Professor Turley was a great professor and funny. There were 3 books you had to read, but you can finish each one within a day. She is a spiritual giant and your testimony will be strengthened if you take this class.
She is an amazing professor, with amazing insights into the Book of Mormon that really changed how I look at it! However, attendance is really important because her tests and exam are primarily based off of the material she goes over in class. Be prepared to take a lot of notes that you'll want to rely heavily on.
Prof Turley was someone whose testimony shone through in every lecture. She inspires me to strive to understand the Gospel and never stop learning. She talks a little quiet so I felt bad whenever I started to lose focus. The tests are not too bad, but the first couple are hard because you are not sure what to study. Nice class if you try.
Prof Turley is so awesome. Due dates for assignments changed a lot and I wasn't always totally sure what I was supposed to do, but she is so patient and one of the kindest people. I'd recommend this as an English general 100% of the time and would totally take her again.
Professor Turley truly cares about her students and their success and testimonies. It is evident she has a deep understanding and connection of the Book of Mormon.
Professor Turley truly loves the Book of Mormon and loves to share its teachings. I learned a lot about the context and content through a new lense thanks to Professor Turley.
She is quiet so it is hard to hear her sometimes, but she usually brings a microphone to class. Gives opportunity for extra credit and makes classes interesting if you are actually engaged. Note taking is very important bc that is what you use to study for tests- there are no study guides. She has interesting insights and is very caring.
Professor Turley is amazing - she genuinely cares about students and makes the class enjoyable, even with the heavy reading load. unstuck ai was a huge help for study prep. Highly recommend taking this class!
