Jung is pretty cool guy and professor. He teaches the first part of o chem so the stuff is still pretty basic and conceptual. His exams emphasize concepts and he doesn't speed through mounds of material in his lectures. He'll even give you some life lessons on the side. Overall he eases you into an o chem and provides the fundamentals you will need
I was so nervous about taking Ochem, but Prof. Jung really helped us understand the beginning concepts well and he was so flexible with office hours, very willing to help students! Attend the lectures and quiz sections even when there isn't a test. I was much more confident about Ochem after his half of the class.
Prof Jung is very good at explaining concepts, and he is very caring towards students. He is willing to put in extra office hours to meet with students.
Oh my goodness Dr. Jung is AMAZING!!!!! He goes out of his way to make sure you understand the material and he is a genuinely nice guy. Put in the effort and you will do great!!!! He really cares about his students. I could talk to him even after the class ended.
No really sure what's he's driving at with jokes about his wife. Teach chem dammit!
Hes cool. and hot.
Funny guy, and extremely helpful. Go to his office hours!! He's a great guy and it'll help you out in many ways. Tests are reasonable and stay on top of the practice exams and homework problems. 2nd lang book helps too, but don't dwell on it. Focus on the powerpoints. Also, go to SI! This "weed-out" class doesn't have to weed out you.
Dr. Jung is awesome! He's a perfect choice for the first half of ochem because he really takes the time and effort to explain the concepts and ease you into the material. He also goes out of his way to help you and create more office hours. Make sure you pay attention and seek his help, because the subject is quite difficult.
Kyung has been my favorite professor at 'SC so far. He breaks down the most complex material into laymen's terms and , unlike many professors, really cares about helping you achieve your dreams. DEFINTELY take.
HONESTLY, Jung is the best person you will meet in the chemistry department. He genuinely cares for all his students & he's like a father to everyone. If you don't understand something, shoot him an email and he will make sure you get it. Don't be afraid to email.Note: His tests are straightforward but this means that everyone usually does well too
Knows what he's talking about, very engaging and passionate. Could be better at explaining the relevance of particular topics in terms of how they relate to organic chemistry as a whole. Lectures tend to be disjointed and lacking a sense of the big picture. Competent overall.
He's funny. Awesome guy. One of the most caring professors I've had at USC. Makes himself extremely available and approachable to help students. Straight-forward. Your grade will be a direct reflection of how much time you put into his class. Wish he taught 322b too. My only regret is not going to office hrs more often. He's a valuable resource.
He is the best!Dr. Jung is great because unlike some professors I've had he is very clear on what is expected of you. He lets you know what type of problems you can expect on the test. This is great since that tests how much ochem you know and not just whether you can understand what the question asks. He is also super funny
Ok so this is one of the hardest classes in USC and I chose to take it in my first sem of freshman year which i regretted a lot. However, Kyung is GOOD that he gives us sample questions during review sessions. The test he gave contains few questions with many marks. So careless mistakes took my marks away. Anyways I am glad to have him in USC
Kyung is extremely kind, nice, and helpful. He wants everyone in the class to do well and will help you as much as you need. You will need to practice and study a lot outside of class because he does not teach and explain a lot but he makes everything reasonable and doable. Get to know him and show your work ethic because he determines final grade
Seems like nice person, but very demeaning in class, calls you stupid if you get a problem wrong. Won't let you take notes in class, wants you to sit and listen. Lectures are disjointed and hard to understand. Says test will be easy and it isn't even a little.
Kyung truly wanted all of his students to succeed. He made himself available VERY often during office hours to discuss performance and take questions - I would advise getting to know him. I found his exams far less trickydifficult than Travis's. His midterms were okay and his final was very easy. Hilarious as well - highly recommend
Didn't spend enough time teaching material in lecture. Told too many irrelevant stories and jokes. Had to teach myself all of the material
Loved him. He's there for you if you go to office hours (WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND GOING)
Love him, great professor, very nice but its just that subject tough. Overall he is so much better than travis! He's like a dad, will definitely listen to student's difficulties and give advices
Dr. Jung is a great man! He is really nice and wants to see you succeed but will also make you work your butt off. Great professor and quite engaging and funny.
Kyung is eager to help and so nice in office hours. Definitely one of the most approachable professors I had at USC. The course is hard--as expected--but he gives you tons of resources and opportunities to do well in the course.
Dr. Jung is the best professor I have had at USC. He stays for HOURS to meet students in his office and he is an expert at diagnosing mistakes in your thought process. Make sure you look at his slides notes (all of it matters) and take his practice exams seriously. If you do both of those, I can't see how you don't get at least a B.
Professor Jung was extremely funny, clear, and approachable. He made coming to lecture a lot more enjoyable and occasionally gave some inspirational talks. The material is tough regardless of the prof. but he gives you the recourses to do well. Be Careful on exams though because a couple mistake can lose you a bunch of points. Still, take him!
Dr. Kyung's less than socially acceptable antics and speech make him a little crazy. But he brings a level of clarity to organic chemistry that few other professors can match. He is very methodical (although slides are a mess) and good memory skills will be of benefit. Exams are doable. Office hours are suggested. Grades reflect scores and effort.
Kyung's class was one of the fairest I've ever taken at USC. His accent and lecture style can be difficult to understand at time but his numerous office hours and accessibility through email more than make up for it. He releases previous exam questions and gives you clear examples of test questions. He is also one of the nicest professors I've met.
He's honestly one of the most caring, approachable, and charismatic professors I've had at USC, and he made ochem so much more enjoyable. He truly wants every student to succeed, and prepares you well for his exams, as long as you are willing to put in the effort. I wish I went to his office hours more!
Kyung is the man. Incredibly passionate about O Chem and genuinely wants every student to succeed. The guy holds a ton of office hours and I've never had a teacher that cares more about his students. The class obviously isn't easy (it's O Chem) but he's incredibly straight forward about what he tests on and is nothing if not fair.
One of the best professors I have had at USC. Go to his office hours and talk to him about the material! He is a very genuine guy and a great professor. Study the practice tests for a really good representation of what he will test you on.
OChem is extremely difficult no matter who you take it with, but Kyung is a very good teacher. More importantly, he has many office hours open and is very open to students who need help throughout the semester.
I've never met a professor who is this caring about his students and people in general. Sometimes he can be a little mean but it's more like tough love. He tries to get to know every student personally and gives you life lessons in everything. I've learned a lot more than OChem in this course. He teaches you to work HARD and SMART(ly)
Kyung is by far the best professor of chemistry I have had at USC! Going into the class, I was extremely nervous. However, Kyung reassured us all that we all were winners no matter what. And he was right. He was extremely clear and kind. He constantly inspires his students to push themselves and "change their paradigms". I will miss his class a lot
Really nice guy. Focuses on making organic chemistry as straightforward as possible. No trick questions, every exam was a fair representation of the material and questions are often extremely similar to the ones on the practice exams - make sure to do the practice exams! Also he has tons of office hours which are super helpful
I LOVE KYUNG!! He is one of the most caring professors I've had here. He is honestly a dad. He wants every student to succeed and is very patient with answering even the simplest questions. He goes out of his way to take out time with his wife and daughter to give time to his students. He is a gem in this hurricane of ochem.
Lectures are not organized and spends a lot of time goofing off or talking about his research.
He has been the best teacher I have had at USC. Super inspirational, asks everyone to change their way of thinking about their careers and their lives and as a result, every student is changed after his class. You get what you put in, go to office hours, he'll help you with any questions about life, chemistry or food. Difficult class though.
People criticize Kyung for "dumbing it down" too much, but I honestly think he's a very clear and straightforward and life-changing professor. Has the most office hours per week I've ever seen and he truly does want to help his students succeed. Cracks jokes, plays music in class, and plenty of practice exam problems. Tests are very fair.
Go to office hours- he occasionally puts concepts on the test that he only discusses in office hours. The tests are almost entirely based off of the practice exams, so a solid understanding of those should lead to success.
Kyung is one of the only teachers that really tries to get to know his almost 300 student class. He has officer hours 3 times a week for two hours and even stays past the allotted times until every single student's questions are answered. He really wants everyone to do well, but he definitely makes you work for it! Would 100% recommend.
Lectures weren't very helpful for understanding the material. I respect Kyung though because he puts in a TON of time in office hours to help students! Tests are pretty straightforward (like the practice exams) and he tries to curve generously in the end. Do well in lab though because for some people it can be the difference between an A and B.
Pretty easy tests this year. The content on the practice tests is much harder than the material actually on the tests, so if you can do the practice, then you should have no trouble with the exam itself.
Kyung is just a great guy. He tries to get to know everyone's names even though there are over 100 students in his class. He spends sooooo much time outside of the classroom helping each of his students and making sure the exams are exactly what we covered in class. Make sure to go to all office hours and do the practice exams!
Kyung is the best professor I have ever had at USC. He really cares about his students doing well in AND out of the classroom. He literally will have life office hours with you for to just talk. He also will stay til the very last person's question is answered, even if that means til midnight. Do the PE's/ go to office hours and you'll do fine!
Honestly a gem. He holds so many office hours to help students out. Ngl, his lecturing style was hard to adjust to but he tells you what's important to know. Prepares students really well for tests with recitation periods. Tests were all-or-nothing, you either know it (A) or you don't. Kyung cares a lot about students and it's adorable.
He makes ochem easy for premeds, but not because he doesn't know the material. He's more experienced than he lets on. He knows premeds won't actually use ochem. You can get to know him through OH and review sessions and he'll always reply to your emails. If you're a sad sophomore premed, go take my prof and he'll listen to what you want to say.
Didnt listen well. Explanations were poorly done
Easiest A I've ever gotten in a science course at USC. He tells you exactly what you need to know for the tests. Better yet, his practice exams are essentially the same as his tests. You just need to memorize it all. Also gives good life advice and very much cares for his students. 10/10 would take again
He is a good guy but not the best professor. I am seeing a trend in Chem professors at USC where they essentially explain things as if you already know everything about the subject. You will need to look for outside sources if you want to do well. Plus, Ochem sucks no matter what professor you take it with and online school only made it worse.
A great prof and an even better person. Gives all the resources necessary to do well in the class (3hr of office hour/recitation a week, PEs that are previous exams from earlier years). One of my favorite professors I've taken at SC
Kyung is an absolutely incredible Professor! I have never had a Professor who cares more about his students than Kyung. He seriously makes every effort to make sure you do well on his exams with multiple office hours before exams where he allows you to ask as many questions as you want. Also, GO TO HIS PE RECITATIONS. The lectures are not enough.
I LOVED Kyung! Ofc any of the ochem classes won't be easy but Kyung does a very good job explaining and holds so many office hours outside of class. Attendance and video aren't mandatory but it does help so that he can get to know you. If he sees that you are putting a lot of effort into the class, he'll put more effort into helping you personally.
Well, he is a nice person ... but we did not learn anything. The class wasn't all that hard, but we haven't learned much. Taking the next OChem class is a disaster :( We are not prepared for it. It was a waste of time, I have to learn everything again.
Kyung is a great guy- he's smart, he cares, and he puts in a lot of work to help people be successful. But dang, does this guy have favorites- and it's obvious. That being said, I still love him (even not being a favorite). Go to class, go to office hours, do the PEs and you'll be successful. 10000x better than Chem 322A
Kyung is definitely the best professor for O-Chem. He is super understanding and cares about his students, even adjusting the syllabus to benefit us. It is also super helpful to get to know him well through office hours, as he gives indispensable advice. All around an amazing professor and actually made me like O-Chem after a rough time in 322A
Kyung is an absolute gem. Of the multiple chemistry professors that I had at USC, he is by far the best. He genuinely cares about every single student he teaches and attempts to get to know all of them. The first exam for our class was very difficult, but Kyung advised us how to study more efficiently. Take advantage of him because hes uncommon.
I can't sing enough praises for Kyung. He's a wonderful professor that makes difficult material easy to understand. He sets up 3 hours of office hours per week that you should DEFINITELY take advantage of - he often outlines everything that will be on exams during office hours. It's a shame that he won't be teaching 322a next semester.
Kyung makes organic chemistry FUN (and I HATED ochem last semester). DEFINITELY attend all recitations or watch those back -- they are your best friends in this class and will set you up really well for the exam. Kyung somehow manages to make sure every single person grasps the material. He's kind and encouraging, no matter who you are.
All hail King Kyung. this guy was an amazing professor. really helped me build confidence after 322a with bert. You have to put in the work- go to office hours and stay on top of the material, but if you do you'll do well in the class. No partial credit but exam are exactly like the practice material
Kyung is one of the best professors I have had at USC. I left OChemA feeling hopeless and knowing nothing. In his class, I actually learned something and understood chemistry. I highly recommend his class. I heard he is teaching the tutorial for Ochem a (chem 250) in the fall, I would take it if chem isn't your strength!
Kyung is the definition of inspirational and caring. You will very likely succeed in his class because Kyung requires lots of extra time outside of class so you are prepared for his exams. Extremely kind and made it FUN to attend ochem class. Tons of practice exams and always available to help students one on one. Best teacher and human.
Kyung is the kindest man on this planet. OChem sucks but he makes it bearable. He truly loves and cares for his students and sat on Zoom for several extra hours per week to answer questions. SO much love for this man.
Kyung was the best and most accessible professor I have ever had at USC thus far. He simplifies OChem concepts and has the most clear-cut explanations that really helped me in 322A. I have never been so enlightened in lecture prior to taking this class. I would NOT have gotten such high exam scores in 322A without him.
Super sweet and dedicated, he really cares about your well-being and success. Obviously not an easy class, but he gives you a ton of resources to do well, and emphasizes changing your work ethic. A really funny lecturer, although hard to understand at times. Handwriting is also hard to read, but he gives you tons of practice problems (DO THEM!!!).
I thoroughly enjoyed Prof. Kyung's 325B class. Although his class with exam-heavy, he was honest that redoing the PE's and ME's will sufficiently prepare you for them. It was also refreshing that he understood the extensive commitments of Pre-Medical or Pre-Graduate students and supported them. Overall, he was a memorable and considerate instructor
Kyung really works hard to get to know each and every student and wants everyone to get an A in his class. He makes it very clear what will be on the exam, and its easy to get an A if you just memorize all the questions he gives in practice exams and mock exams.Don't be intimidated by him on the first day; he acts tough but is a sweetheart
You want to take Kyung over any other professor for organic I promise you. Nothing makes o-chem easy but Kyung hands you the key to success. Really changed my viewpoint on STEM professors. Make your schedule around this class, you will regret taking other prof!
You just have to study a lot since OChem is a naturally hard subject. He is a very understanding person and one of the best professor I met at USC. If you study, then you are going to do well. Honestly, I did so much better in OChem than Gen Chem. I love Kyung
Very funny and caring, he wants to see his students succeed in the class. OChem is notoriously difficult, but Kyung makes it manageable as long as you put in the effort. Attend every recitation as it's basically an add-on lecture and will help get a good grade. His mock exams give clear expectations of the actual thing, so def take him if u can.
kyung makes it very clear what he expects from you throughout the course. he gives ample resources for practice and help. on top of all this, hes sweet and cares deeply about his students wellbeing. love kyung.
A true professor that cares so much about his students. OChem is hard but Kyung will give you the confidence to succeed. Offers so much resources and help in and out of the classroom, and you will know exactly what is expected from you. Go to recitations, and put in effort, you will learn so much from him. Best STEM professor taken in USC.
He was a nice guy, but his lectures were so-so. Although everyone does well, I felt like I learned nothing of value even though this is a core course. He tells students to memorize everything but doesn't bother to explain much. Genuine learning is not encouraged because he wants memorization (so that students are prepared only for his tests).
Literally better than any professor, he cares about you and will give life lessons; makes organic chemistry easy!!! take him at ALL COSTS unless you're in 322b then give me ur spot
Kyung's an amazing professor who truly cares about his students. If you repeat the PEs multiple times you should easily get an A in the class. Tbh going to lecture isn't really necessary but going to recitation or watching the recordings of them is ESSENTIAL. I've never met a professor who cares more about his students' success than Kyung does.
TAKE HIS COURSE. Kyung is an amazing professor who cares a lot about each of his students. His exams are insanely fair and he's extremely inspirational. One issue with him is that his lectures are somewhat hard to follow and essentially all your learning comes from his "recitations". Attend them and you will do very well. :)
Kyung is one of the rare professors that genuinely cares about his students and will do anything to help us succeed. I found his lectures really hard to follow and of course the content is difficult, but he has "recitation", lots of practice problems, and mock exam to help. Also very high averages and a small curve at the end.
This is my favorite professor at USC. He's a tough nut though. He won't really curve the exams or the class and his lecture style isn't for everyone. Loved him but don't take Kyung if you're sensitive; he says some funny out-of pocket jokes that can be taken wrong but he means well. He's super accessible and wants you to succeed in Ochem
Funniest dude ever absolutely love this professor! Korean unc
Genuinely have no words for Kyung. He was amazing, one of, if not, the best professors I've ever had at USC. Made OChem easy to digest and always made lectures and OH super funny and enjoyable. Really knows his stuff too, makes clear-cut grading criteria for tests. If a math major can pass this class, so can you. Take him he's amazing.
Kyung is an absolutely amazing professor who makes Ochem EASY. Your grade is directly proportional to the amount of work you put in. He spends hours just dedicated to helping students succeed by having late night office hours, recitation t
Without a doubt the best professor I have had at USC! Kyung goes above and beyond when it comes to teaching and providing time outside of class for further course material discussion/understanding. He truly cares about each student and fosters a community for everyone to help one another. I would absolutely recommend taking Ochem with Kyung.
Kyung is one of the better professors I've had at USC, but definitely not the "best" as some say he is. His tests are consistent with what he teaches in class, so the averages are usually pretty high (low-high 70s range). He spends a lot of time outside class that is dedicated to helping students. But man does he play favorites like crazy.
He's a sweet guy, but I cannot stand how he teaches. As someone who has to genuinely UNDERSTAND concepts, I didn't do well with his memorization-heavy teaching style. Lecture is useless, recitation takes up too much time, and he tries to make you conform to a certain study style (that did not work for me). Dropped the class to protect my 4.0.
Amazing Professor, just be ready to spend a few hours a week in recitation. Worth it! It is like guided homework and is similar style to exams.
Phenomenal professor. An A is 88 or higher, little to no A-/B+ grades given. Exams are short but incorporate multiple concepts and reflect the PEs and recitation with an occasional curveball. He has an interesting sense of humor; don't take anything he says personally. He is kind and spends many hours dedicated to helping students.
Kyung is AWESOME!!! He is so gifted in teaching and cares so much for the students. DO THE PRACTICE EXAMS and keep up with the lecture content. He is so so accessible and slack community is so good.
You need to go to recitations (zoom meetings outside of lecture time) to do well. The class is SO memorization heavy. He teaches you tricks and relies less on concepts. If you attend most of the lectures and watch recordings of recitations, you should be okay (recitations >> lectures). Little to no partial credit on exams so PRACTICE.
He cares about his students and is very funny, but his teaching style made it really hard to understand concepts or study efficiently. His zoom recitations took up so much time within my week and if I missed even a few minutes I always felt really behind. Cool guy but not very easy to keep up
one of my top 5 fav men in the world. learned many life lessons in his class but not a lot of ochem. teaching happens mostly during recitation (weekly zoom where he goes over practice problems, ranges from 1 to 2.5 hrs), emphasizes pattern recognition + memorization (unfortunate for me). practice exams are very close to real exam material though!!
Obviously organic chemistry is a hard subject matter, but Kyung is by far the best professor to have when taking it. The lectures aren't the most useful, but the recitations are incredibly helpful. He is not looking to trick you on any of the exams, and prepares the class to do well. My ochem experience was pretty great, thanks to Kyung.
Took CHEM 322A with Kyung and am now in 322B with him. I'm so sad this class is almost over. It's the best two classes I've ever taken at USC. The Slack community is the best. You'll make so many lifelong friends. I've never seen a professor that cares more about his students than Kyung. He will make you better. Change paradigms!
Kyung is an incredible professor! He really pushes his students to do their best and wants everyone to succeed in his class. He hosts zoom recitations where he goes through practice problems, which is incredibly helpful for doing well in his class. I would highly recommend you take his class for ochem!
This is one of those classes where if you put in enough time and energy you pretty much guaranteed at least a B. Granted, it's a lot of time but the exams are very similar to the practice problems and he's very reasonable with what he asks.
Just do the practice problems over and over again, watch the recordings + recitations, and you'll be fine
Took him for both 322a and 322b. Paradigm is changed
If you put in the work, you'll get at least a B. However, it's a lot of work. You have to constantly be looking at the Slack stream (he'll sometimes get inspo for questions from it), fully understand the lecture notes, and make sure you do all of the practice exams multiple times. His tests are very similar to the practice ones.
I enjoyed Kyung but tbh didn't learn as much as I memorized patterns. Lectures weren't very helpful, but he hosts 2 recitations/week (plus a mock exam and office hours on exam weeks) and those were very helpful (going over practice problems n such). If you put in the effort you can def get a B, it's just a LOT of effort. Very sweet guy too!
amazing teacher, literally never made mistakes in answer keys and reviews so everything was super clear. recitations are extremely helpful. class being graded on ONLY midterms is a huge drawback, he also rarely does +/- grades so your letter is your letter but still worth taking the class tbh kyung is iconic
Kyung parses down the material so much, bless up. 4+ hours/week of recitation—basically mandatory because that's all the practice you get, and the class isn't easy. Didn't love his tangents, but he's a sweet guy and wants everyone to do well. Work heavy, but prob the least torturous section; adapt to his setup, dedicate the hours, you'll get an A/B
ochem is gonna be hard but he makes it so much more doable. always able to get extra help with recitations (consider these mandatory cuz this is when you actually learn stuff which makes lectures sometimes feels pointless). he genuinely cares for the success of his students given you also show effort.
this prof destroyed my gpa. everyone says he's the easier prof but there's absolutely no structure to his lectures. recitations are 2-3 hours twice a week and that's the only place he teaches, which sucks because students have conflicts during those times. i had to try to learn everything from youtube videos.
Nice guy but his teaching never actually went into explanations for how anything in ochem works. Class relied heavily on memorization over understanding which will only set you up for 322b if you take it with him and not a different prof. Most instruction was done outside of class time & practice resources paled in comparison to other profs.
