First time I have ever hated a history class, awful
worst class every
i hated that witch she made my life hell for a semester and her lectures were like pulling teeth
No Comments
worst teacher i have ever had, made me hate history,
WORST TEACHER EVER! Went into final exam with and A- and came out failing the class...she would not respond to calls or email as to why
Couldn't learn anything from her lectures!
Worst teacher ever, spoke every other language except english
she gave me and incomplete and will not respond to calls or emails!!!!!
accent sucked so did her attitude
holds you hostage with her religion
So because someone doesn't like her pushing her Christian faith and generically refers to it as her "religion," this person is somehow ****, somehow a Christian fundamentalist, and an E. Tennessee hick? If you hate the area, go somewhere else. By the bye, the adjective is spelled "inbred."
Smart, let's you know it, but goes off on the most unrelated tangents...Class became a hell of a chore to go to and overall a huge waste of time...I learned more from reading the books.
Awful class, awful teacher. Informed me that she could fail me "if she wanted." Constantly yelled thoughout lectures about sleeping and not paying attention to her lectures which made NO sense. Do not take her if you wish to enjoy history.
I do not see why people fail her? She is extremely easy. All she does is talk off the subject and talk about crazy religious beliefs. She gives you the study guide before the test. People who fail her should not be in college they should just be sitting at home playing playstation.
I enjoyed her. She makes you take initiative with your own education. She gives you all the info and forces you to put it together. Easy A for me
A difficult professor, but as long as you keep up with the work, it will be a rewarding experience.
An absolutely terrible professor. Always ranting and raving about her own political and religious beliefs. I don't want to hear what your political opinions are, and no, I don't happen to agree with your opinion that "women have a choice." So don't push your opinions on me and do what I pay you to do: teach history.
She was a great teacher, I had her last semester...made an A. She does get off subject sometimes in her lectures but your aren't required to go to class; she gives a study guide before every test with everything on it and if you can read a book you should have no problem with her class. If she insulted you or told you she would fail you it is probablly because you weren't doing****!!!
This isn't such a difficult class, but she is very aggrivating. She uses the class as her soap box and favors anyone who is a Catholic. Will out right cast you down if you don't agree with her. It's hard to focus on what is important, so if you want someone who will help you learn, get another teacher.
She made me re-write my final paper because she thought I plagiarized it, but couldn't prove it. The Aide suggested I "dumb it down" in order to pass! The most inept professor I've had. However, the study guides give you everything you need to ace the class. She is an easy A, but a horrible instructor. She's a big soap-boxer, and most of her opinions would be shredded if opened to debate.
I think she is very qualified for her work. Not only does she have a beautiful accent, but she also cares about teaching. I have never met anyone that not only cared for the subject but also the student. I would recommend her for anyone!
the worst american history class i have ever had, i wish she would have taught the history, instead of how horrible we americans are. shes very opinionated, if you have her, i recomend block her out and just read the book.
She is the worst teacher! the tests seem easy and she gives you the marterial thats on it a head of time but she checks for grammer. hello am I in english or history! she gets on a soap-box alot and does nothing but put down americans! she also insults you if you ask her questions that she thinks you should know! I wouldnt recommend her to anyone!!
she is too smart for tennessee
She is very well educated and speak English better than most of the locals around here. She knows how to convey the course material so that it is understrandable and makes it interesting.
She gave us a study guide from the old version of the text. The study guide didn't match the new text at all! No one new what was going on. She doesn't actually teach, she gives her opinions on ethical and sociological issues from outside of class. She "teaches" by reading the bulleted list of titles from the book. I don't recomend this class.

This professor is fluent in at least 5 languages. With her backgound, she can give a student many answers to questions that most haven't even thought to ask. Take her, she may open your eyes to a world you aren't aware that actually exists.
Just because she speaks 5 languages, that doesn't mean she can teach. If you are signed up for her.... think twice.
By far, Dr. al-Imad is the best professor at ETSU. As an undergrad, I took 3 of her classes & was highly impressed with all of them. Overall, her courses were refreshing and not that difficult. In addition to the text, she told of her travels and experiences. Plus, she was always willing to help a student in need. History majors should take her.
I had her 2 years ago when I was a sophomore and I can honestly say that she is the worst teacher I have had at ETSU. If you want to learn about all the languages she speaks and how terrible Americans are, then take her class; if you actually want to learn about history, I would STRONGLY suggest another teacher.
Awful, dont take this class
do not take her!! she is a liar and an AWFUL teacher!
Talks like tests are from lectures, but really everything is from the book (and be expected to remember the picky details!). Absolutely hated this class. Rethink if you have signed up for her class.
I loved history until I heard her try and teach it. I could not understand her at all. And she would go off subject and try and wake someone up all the time. It was not funny like she thought. You do not have to listen to her lectures.. just read the book and take the online practice tests.
Lets sum this whole entire class up with Mrs.Al-Imad as a teacher...IT SUCKS!!!!!!...she should be fired. She is a waste of money, and she was a waste of my time. I basically taught myself from the book because that is where the tests come from because she di
did not teach anything, and what she tried to teach it wasn't understandable... SHE SHOULD BE FIRED!!!!!!!! PLZ!!!!! FIRE HER!!!!!!!!1!!!!11!!!1!!!!one!!!one!!!!eleven!!!!
She is a nice lady, and very bright, but trying to go through our graduate/undergraduate course on the Modern Iraq was very difficult. We rarely had any substantive discussion, it was almost always 3 hours of emotional rants about the Iraq War. Anytime one of the graduate students had an opinion, it was rejected completely. very strange teacher
Really awful teacher. Beware-she doesn't test on ANYTHING that is lecture. In fact, we're having our second test that is on a chapter she hasn't even mentioned in lecture. Think of it as a mandatory attendance indenpendent study. The worse parts of boths worlds-yay. =(
Despite what some others said, I did ok with Dr. al-Imad. If you read the chapters discussed, you'll do fine on tests. Yes, she does get off topic a good bit, but this class is ok if you study.
Pointless teacher. Her "lectures" consist of rambling on whatever she wants. Gives you a study guide before the test that basically IS the test, and has NOTHING to do with what she "lectured" on. She throws candy at you if you fall asleep. NO KIDDING. Tests are incredibly easy, but don't take this class if you're interested in learning anything.
I have served in iraq and Afghanistan and it was nothing less than a slap in the face to come back and sit in her class. She uses the podium for a bully pulpit to give her VERY INACURATE views of our president and the war.She is not only a disgrace as a teacher but as an American in general. She truly needs to be fired.
Very boring professor! No need to listen in class. Just do study guides and will ace test.
This class is supposed to be oral intensive, but no one in the class can get a word in edgewise nor disagree with her without starting rants about how barbaric Americans are! She preaches about how wonderful/peaceful Islam is and I have learned virtually nothing. I will never take another of her classes nor recommend her! Stay away!
She is a great teacher. Much better than Dr. Burgess, and that's true.
She is a horrible teacher. Be prepared to be very, very, very bored when you come to her class. She gets off subject alot and frequently talks about herself..how amazingly smart she is and how she knows oh so many languages.. She constantly talks about how bad America is. I say she should leave this place!& If you breathe in class, beware! :/
Tends to not have lectures organized and is very political. Can seem very rude at times. The class is an easy grade, but if you have an opinion, you should probably keep it to yourself.
So here's the deal: I would love to hang out with this type of personality, AND I'm probably going to make an A in this class. However, she does NOT talk about the subject matter in class, she just...talks--about whatever's on her mind. I know more about her vegetarianism, Catholicism and her life in the Mediterranean than history. Seriously awful.
Taking this class was pretty much pointless. She is very knowledgeable about the culture and customs of the Middle East (she is from there) but offers little of relevance to the course. I learned little about the history of the modern Middle East and heard more rants about US foreign policy, etc.
Dr. Al-Imad was an ok teacher. You dont really have to pay attention in class because she has a study session before every test and basically gives out the answer. Real easy...I made an easy A.
Was a great teacher. Knew almost everything about the subject. Tended to get a little off track sometimes. Was very clear on due dates and dead lines. One of the best teachers I have ever had. I will take her again if I get the chance.
She is teaching History of Islam in Fall 09 and I have a feeling that will be a good course (plus, it's an oral-intensive). For World History, I was disappointed that she was stuck with such a terrible textbook, and irritated that there were so many ill-mannered students in the class. 100+ students is overwhelming and information is watered down :(
I had her for world history and her class alone made me second guess majoring in history. The material wasn't hard but her lecures were very off topic, so the three hour lecture was pointless to go to. The only reason I passed was because the TA started study sessions. But of course Al-Imad cancelled the sessions bc everyone skipped lecture.
Horrible. If you don't want to hear how worthless America is and how superior foreign students are or how well-versed and intelligent she is, then find another class.
Lectures extremely off-topic. Tests on everything BUT what was covered in class. If not for the study sessions, all would fail. I was sitting there holding a grade of 104 on a test and yet she went on and on about how the foreigners were better at studying. She also goes on and on about how educated she is and how much Americans suck.
Horrible teacher in general. Does not teach on topic. Expect to learn little. Downs America and praises other countries. Religions will also be downed in this class, except Islam. Test can be easy, but her papers can be hard considering she goes over nothing on it. Extremely boring, expect be amused of how downing she is.
Seriously the worst teacher ever. It was once a week for 3 hours. She would mumble on and on in an accent I couldn't understand. She would barely speak of the course she would just tell stories about the middle east. When I tried to drop the class I was going to take a W, I had to have her signature. She would not sign she refused. DONT TAKE HER
The worst teacher I have ever experienced. She must definitely have tenure because that is the only way that she hasn't been fired yet. Nothing on topic. Talks about herself constantly. Puts Americans down big time. Please avoid her at all costs.
I really don't understand all the hate comments Dr. Al-Imad receives, yes she may be a foreign teacher, however I have never heard her dis-America. She has a lot of international experience as a student as well as a teacher and I found her classes very intriguing and informative. I highly recommend her for any history class!
al-Imad gets a bad rap. Do what she asks you and make use of what she stresses in class. Hist. of Modern Middle East was an easy A: One three question mid-term (take home), one oral/written book report, and one 15 page essay. Don't take her if you think the US is an angel, because she will open your eyes to some harsh truths you might not like. :P
DO NOT take her class!!! Her lectures had nothing to do with the chapters, maybe because she was still teaching from the book from 4 years ago! She rambles on for hours over useless stories, not to mention her whole attitude that she thinks she's better than everyone else. If it wasn't for her student teacher, I never would have passed this course.
She is awful! I have had a lot of profs in my time and she is BY FAR the worst!!!!!! Don't take her class...ever.
Dr. Al-Imad is a good professor, but she sure knows how to be offensive to some. Will shoot down opposing views as soon as they are brought up, regardless of whether or not her opinion even makes sense. Her grandiose tales often contradict each other. Despite all of this, she is extremely easy and very laid back.
I took her for Modern Middle East and liked the class. Many rightly note her strong opinions but she actually does allow debate. I frequently disagreed with her and challenged her in class and she never took it personally. She is not afraid to be politically incorrect. She is neither a die-hard liberal or conservative. I recommend her very much.
Easy A, but almost not worth it. Sometimes she doesn't show up for class. When she does, she just talks about her personal life and all of the assigned work is at the end of the term (it is very little, but it sneaks up on you).
very interesting
I took her class on U.S. history past 1867 and passed easily, but history is my forte. Over half the class failed due to her lack of clearity in lectures and poor relation of lectures and test material. Her tests were all written including two essays and 12 identification. If at all possible, DO NOT TAKE this teacher. It's a lot of unnecessary poo.
An extremely intelligent and interesting person. Unconventional in style, but in a good way. Her stories about her childhood in the Middle East are fascinating. Very helpful and kind. Stick with Dr. Al-Imad and you'll learn a lot.
This is the worst class that I have ever taken. It was as if she had an inability to tell the class when the assignments were due and when you ask for her help she gets off topic all the time. I would never recommend her to a friend or an enemy. I am not that mean.
This professor gave all of her test making responsibilitys to her TA this semester. The tests that she made failled everyone in the class, so much that when we got our grades back she added 10 points to everyones grade and I barely passed my first test. The average was a 42 on her students papers for that class
I personally found her to be a good teacher. She was friendly and funny and very open minded. She does tend to go off topic often, which is interesting at least. I couldn't seem to absorb any history related material from her lectures, but that could be my own disability to focus during history lessons. I would seriously recommend going to her pre test study sessions, which are relatively short and will help you enormously for the tests.
Honestly, one of the worst i have ever had. She gets off topic a lot and is highly offensive whether or not you go to church. Shows up late, poorly educated in history outside of Islam, and cannot communicate what she does know.
She know tons about middle eastern history, but she is not very familiar with he rest of the world, or modern views of politics. The class wasn't very hard, and she is unorganized. It gave me a basic understanding of Islam, that's about it.
Dr. Al Imad is intelligent, unfortunately she has an extremely rich arabi accent that makes it hard to understand her. Her exams however are not hard if you go for the study sessions, make sure you go for study sessions if you plan to pass her class. When she asks you to write an essay, write dates amendements, browse the internet. You will pass!
I thought I'd loathe this class (love history but not that of the US) but I was pleasantly surprised. She tells it like it is and doesn't put up with any nonsense, which is quite a nice change. If you come to class and actually care she'll work with you and you'll do fine. Very smart, well traveled woman who knows her stuff. I'd take her again.
Dr. Al-Imad is impossibly disorganized. Good luck knowing when things are due, if you will have a test when it's on the syllabus, etc. No one in the class ever had any idea what was due when. Also, expect to be offended at some point during the semester, if not every week. I was very interested in the Middle East previously, but no more.
You have to work in her class, but she knows a lot about the Middle East and is willing to help you learn the material and write the papers correctly.
With my schedule and having to commute I had no choice in taking this professor. I have never had someone go off topic more in my life. The first test most of the class failed. I actually read the book and still only made a B with the curve she added. I really don't think the book we were to get is the one she uses. Unclear and very arrogant.
She is a wonderful teacher. Very educated and cares for her students a lot. If youre a closed minded person who comes to class with a preconcieved notion then yes you probably will get offended, guess what not the entire world thinks like the US. Do your work and communicate with her and you'll be fine :)
she is the most unhelpful professor i have ever had! you never know when things are due, she doesnt post anything on D2L and you can not email her anything because her inbox is always full. Her student helper is extremely rude and isnt helpful either. she is hard to understand and boring to listen to. her tests are extremely difficult.
This is the worst class I've taken thusfar!! She goes off subject most off class. She offers study sessions but nothing on the study guide matches what's on the exams and she treats it like everyone already knows the material before she even lectures!! Her graduate student is even less help. Rude and condescending.
DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES TAKE HER!!!! She waits a week before the end of the term to tell you you have two reports due. Her final exam is a joke, you have three question. U will leave this class knowing exactly what you knew going in.
The nicest way i can describe this teacher is to say that outside being a professor im sure shes a great person. BUT as a professor she was the worst she never emailed you back, was never specific on her assignments and i honestly don't know why etsu hired her. and her class is only once a week for 2 hours!
She's horribly disorganized. Spends all semester reiterating the same point she made the first day. I am not one of those offended by her views; in fact I tended to agree with her. With that said, she's a horrible teacher. Lectures are scattered. Assignment expectations are never clear and you never receive feedback. Nice person, awful teacher.
She is practically impossible. She won't post grades on D2L the entire semester so you'll have no idea what your final grade will be... doesn't even post midterms. Yeah, she'll drop your lowest test grade, but you only have 3 grades in the class and you'll never know exactly when you're going to have a test or paper due. Always does what she wants.
Don't believe all these nay-sayers. She is a really nice professor who genuinely cares for you. Never did work in class, minimal reading. NO tests over the reading just a few presentations and an easy writing assignment... The class was mostly a discussion group. But, if you're ignorant- don't take her classes, because she will argue w you.
I absolutely adore this professor. I had her for the History of Medicine and she was extremely intelligent and passionate about the subject. She truly cares for her students by wanting them to succeed. She doesn't use D2L or email, the best way to contact is by calling/texting her, or by going to her office. She even brought a cake for us one day.
Professor was not at all available outside of class, despite sending numerous emails. Class would be cancelled frequently and without warning. Taught in an informal and far too personal way-- I learned more about her childhood than I did the subject matter. I feel like I wanted money and a semester. Took an entire semester to grade one paper.
Inconveniently, you can't reach her through email or d2l, but the class is very easy. She is kind and genuinely cares about each individual, but she does go off topic quite a bit. She let us choose how we wanted to take tests (take home, 3 essay questions,) personally paid for books for the us to share, and there is no hw. Easy class, sweet woman
A horrible woman who will never answer your emails, will tell you not to buy the book but then you end up needing it anyway, lies about taking care of her students (meaning she lies to the history department) she does nothing to help her students, she can't work a computer
Took 5 week course took her a week to post anything on D2L
The readings she assigns are super interesting. But classes can be a huge waste of time. She veers off topic and wastes tons of class time talking about personal stuff. Sometimes feels very inappropriate. And she's hard to reach outside of class. Never checks her email. Also doesn't stick to her syllabus at all, if she even gives you one at all.
Doesn't use D2L and rarely uses email, so it is difficult to contact her. Gives unclear instructions about assignments, due dates, and criteria. The Professor also does not provide a clear syllabus or outline of the course, she will just mention a possible due date and expect you to remember what she said. However, she is caring to her students.
Dr. Al-Imad is very caring and will help if you need it. I would recommend doing it though during class as reaching her through email is difficult. I am taking her Topics: modern turkey course and her assignments are two presentations on articles and one long paper for a final. Taking part in discussions is a must.
I am taking her late start class. It started over a month ago she has nothing on d2l, has us sending tests through outlook (she keeps telling us we have a zoom to join but gives no link to it or password so we haven't even had a class), and she also hasn't replied to anyone of us not even one time. The dean is trying to get her fired i believe.
I really liked Dr. Al-Imad. She's super nice and caring toward students and even bought us pizza and donuts with her own money. Her class is also super chill, and you'll feel like you can ask questions or discuss a topic at any time. There are not many assignments either but be sure to do your readings. I learned quite a bit about the Middle East!
If I am being honest, Dr. Al-Imad is the worst professor I have ever had in my four years at ETSU. She called me outside of class time, rescheduled class to be hours early, asked us to come to her home, didn't have anything on D2L or use any form of communication. Her lectures weren't relevant or focused, she usually rambled about her personal life
Dr. Al Imad is possibly the best professor I've ever had she's super nice and makes her classes interesting. My only gripe with her is that her assignments are kinda confusing and the lectures can be all over the place sometimes but she's such a sweetheart that it doesn't matter. 10/10 perfect example of human kindness in this woman
