Very hard teacher, excessive assignments.

AWSOME TEACHER! Classes are not easy but you come out learning alot and are always interested in what he is saying! I'm taking classes with him again!
Take this professer if you want to throw your money away. Makes you feel stupid. He has this look on his face as if he's laughing at you when you ask a question. Many people dropped because of his unreasonable grading.
Very hard, I think I deserved an A, but I got an 85/B. One thing I didn't like was once he told us to write an interpretation, and I did, and he graded off cause I didn't interpret the way he "intended" us to.
He's pretty wacky, and pretty laid back, he's very strict on having things turned in on time, but as long as you pay attention somewhat in his class, he's easy.
He is really interested in the subject, well informed and will listen to you MOST of the time. He asks for participation but sometimes asks you to be quiet because he's on a rant. If you participate in the class, it goes better.
Great Teacher. This subject was surprisingly fun. Alot of reading and class discussion. You don't have to talk much though. One or two people can carry the class. If you talk to him he'll work with you. Quirky. Fun. Take him.
He is interesting, but will make you feel stupid in front of the class. His expectations are high. Note, he majored in journalism therefore, you will need to be an excellent writer to satisfy his critera.
talks a lot, but a good teacher, farily easy class if you do the work, you don't really have to read much of the book, just listen in class and review the questions that he gives you for the tests, good about letting you turn in late work, but not very clear instructions on assinments/projects.
hes okay... talks waaaaaay tooo much but work is easy.. gives very many chances to do papers and gives a portfolio due in the end of the semester. you only have to read 20 short essays the whole semester..fairly okay class
It was a fairly easy class. Do your part and you will be O.K.
Class was always interesting. Discussions were based on the text material as well as personal experience he has with the material. I really enjoyed the projects that we did. There is alot of material to cover but very interesting. I really enjoyed the instructor's style of teaching!
Keeps the class interesting and interactive, but talks alot about crap that's not necessary, lots of political Bush bashing, etc. But he doesn't mind if you have something to say about that too.
Whitebird is alright, he has a unique personality and thus the class is unique too, but not hard at all. There is little too much material to be covered in the class but he makes it easy and interesting at the same time. Take him
Professor Whitebird is an interesting teacher. The work isnt hard but you do have to study. The finals are essays but you are given the topics a week in advance. I liked him. I ended up with a C in the course which was surprising bc i used to get A's all thru high school... but if you dont slack you will get a good grade!
doesnt give timely feedback on work
mr whitebird was an awesome teacher! he is so nice and has kind of a dry sense of humor- i loved it! there was a good deal of work for his class but he was very helpful and sincerely wanted everyone to succeed
A great teacher. I learned a lot in this class and if the time is taken by the student to really understand the classic stories, there is much to be gained from this class. He talks a lot but is very interesting. He knows his stuff.
This teacher gave assignments and then changed them the day they wher due and then lost all my work and had the nerve to give me a D. I have been trying to reach him ever since to and he has not returned my call.
I ATTTENTED CLASS EVERY DAY, AND FINISHED HOMEWORK ON TIME.I GOT c!
Poor teaching skills rambles on and on about issues that have no bearing on a english 1302 class. Should retire and stop taking students money for nothing. Really really suck!!
Poor instructor more interested in getting his point accross than listening to what you had to say. Graded unfairly, not very helpful. I would not recomend taking his class what so ever.
oh my god if you are in this man's class get out why you can you will here more about his first and daugther then you would the class he should retire and stop teaching
I love Proff Whitebird, he is silly-he thinks he's funny but really not. He talks ALOT and most of it is lecture-he knows he talk alot and still does it. His papers are straight forward and theres only 4 papers. Some quizes but they were rare. He got sick this semester-so im not sure if he will be back, but I hope so!I enjoyed the class! Nice guy!!
Good guy, easy going, tells you exactly what's on the tests. Tests are easy. Lectures have funny times but are often just ramblings about nothing mixed sporadically w/ important info that should be noted (but you never know what should be noted)
Very talkative in class. Mixes a lot of info about the materials with personal stories. The syllabus is not informative. Overall I'm confused on what I need to be doing for my grade. Would not recommend his class.
Talks a lot about everything but the class itself. The grades are unfair because he grades students as if they were to pursue a literature major.
i took himlast semester and managed to recieve an a although this is nt my favorite subject. very helpfull if in need. can miss a couple days of class with no problem. most of the stuff that goes on in calss is not about the class. overall an easy a if apply yourself.
Taking a class under Professor Whitebird is awful. I feel as if I am not learning anything other than the story of his life. About his wife, his daughter that died, the kind of car he drives, etc. I do not recommend that anyone takes his class.
Great class! Fun teacher, easy to understand. just the right amount of work to understand what needs to be done but not so many assignments that you are burried. definetly the teacher you want for english 1301! class was fun and i learned a lot and now i am no longer scared to write a paper!
Professor Whitebird is a wonderful teacher. He did tell a lot of stories in class, but it was to get you thinking about things to write your papers about (it IS a composition class) He is fair and understanding, a wonderful teacher whether you excel in English skills or not.
At first I wasn't sure about him. But as the semester went on, I really enjoyed his class. Someimes you have to nail him down on due dates and requirements. Other than that the class is pretty fun. You may have to put up with some crazy stories of his, but I think he's a pretty interesting teacher who isn't too hard to please.
Good teacher, just have to apply yourself. He goes off topic a lot but in my opinion it's a good thing!
He is a good teacher. I learned a lot on his class. We wrote: 22 (up to 200 words) responses, two 750 word essays + revisions, 1500 words paper, the midterm and the final paper. Overall, I enjoyed his class and I will take him for my 1302 as well.
Great Professor, gives students lots of chances to make a good grade. Real flexible pushes deadlines back to help everyone get a good grade. If you do not make an A, you are not trying. Easy A, and a fun class that can break up a hard schedule. Very understanding and great stories, laugh and enjoy, take him you won't regret it.
Mr. Whitebird is a very knowledgeable teacher. He tries hard to make his lessons interesting and fun. We read five novels, watched the movie version of each one, and then wrote a paper comparing the two mediums. This is a great literature class for non English majors.
First impression is the guy is cookoo, but once you get to know him he's a humble intelligent guy. Syllabus can be tricky to comprehend, but simpy talk to him and he'll explain. If he sees your effort, you'll be fine. If not, he's not afraid to point you to the door
mr. whitebird is a great teacher very helpful if u dont try dont expext to pass if you have any questions just ask he will help you i would def take him again
Profesor Whitebird talks a lot but if you pay attention he is going over the assignment for the day. He is helpfull in goes over all the assignments, you can write as many revision you want; if attend class and do your work you'll make a good grade.
All he does is lecture!!!! Pretty boring! As for his assignments...as long as you wrote what he asked for, theme and style, you got an A! I never bought the book and still got A's on all my papers. I'd take him again if I had to.
Ok so Whitebird will probably come off koo-koo at first, but he is probably the best teacher you will ever have. All you have to do is show that you are trying and he will give you as many chances as you need in order to pass. You have 25 logs that are due at the end of semester, 3 essays for portfolio, mid & final. I will def take him for 1302!
He is so great! My writing is broken, but I worked very hard. And he gave us so many chances to improve our grade. about 7 essays have to write, but only 3 will count towards into your final grade and you have plenty time to revise them.He is so nice and gentle!
Hate reading, but the options he gives out are pretty good. Wrote 5 essays in total. Im an avrg student so i slack off and hate reading but prof isnt all that hard on you. read, watch the movie, use his vocab he gives u and you will be fine. did i mention i hate reading!! a lot of reading but manageable.
Excellent, positive, enthusiastic and knowledgable. Really cares about students!
This professor is great, he really gives you a lot of chances to revise your work. Pretty much you do response logs and 4 essays including midterm and final...no pop quiz or tests in his class. Great teacher!
Very helpful Professor. I was very pleased. As long as you do what he says and get all the assignments done ON TIME your good!
He is one of the best instructors i ever taken. he teaches indirectly by revising each essay you write if you want him to take a look at your essays, which i recommend. revising your essays is the way to make an A in his class.
He is very hard and unhelpful. I tried my best to pass this class, but he said that all my efforts is useless, and he will drop me. Don't take him...
great professor. there is a lot of work but he allows for you to revise your work prior to semester's end, giving a chance to enhance your work. he tells stories of his life to make his point, this class is about how to write "stories". Easy A if you do the work, I didn't complete the last assignment on time (50% of total grade) so I received a B
He is one of the best professor I've ever had. Very helpful, let you revise your essays and make corrections. You're in college. He is not there to baby sit. As long as you follow the syllabus. Ready and do you response log you're good.....
I must admit I didnt take the class seriously but I completed the essays & compiled the portfolio of them in time and the things he deducted points for just dont make sense.ex:In research paper he said that I didnt use 2 of my sources but on essay they are cited & even mentions one as citation. There r more. Was worth 50% & got D. Dont recomend!!!
Mr.Whitebird is a great professor. This is not an easy class he will challenge you to think & go beyond in your writing. Revise your essays, keep up with the response logs, do well in your midterms and follow the syllabus YOU WILL BE FINE. He can bored you with his talking but that is just how old people are:) Definitely pick him for English.
KEEP UP WITH RESPONSE LOGS!! Mid & Final are easy. Grades hard on the research paper, make sure you cite all sources in the paper itself not just the Works Cited page. Soft spoken, sit near the front, can get boring while analyzing stories but DO NOT ignore TAKE NOTES. His insights are very helpful for both response logs and critical analysis.
Do your response logs daily! They pile up at the end. Take lots of notes. He tends to be scatterbrained and slightly computer stupid so the library and writing centers will be your best friend.
The first day of class he started off talking about the stories we will read which was great until he changed the subject to Oprah then the civil war then the queen of England and then how teenagers are reckless drivers to Obama and how his wife was a crazy lady to him being a teenager. Point is, he babbles a lot and I DON'T RECOMMEND!!! Blah >:(
If you are really good at college writing ,MLA, and literature. Take him! If you are not, be careful! you have to take note what he said and do everything by your self. Reading a lots.
He is ok, but long winded. He can also be a little sarcastic at times when you ask a question. If you are good at understand critical analysist, you will pass.
I cannot recommend Professor Whitebird highly enough. His classes are focused on discussion, allowing you to develop your ideas for essay content and get instant feedback to better understand the material and produce more refined arguments. If you participate in class and read the material I don't see how you could get less than a B.
Professor Whitebird is an absolutely fantastic instructor. His course on ancient literature is fascinating. I would gladly take his class even if I did not need the credits. This is a class I genuinely enjoyed going to, and would have attended whether or not I needed the credits.
I truly enjoyed his class. He goes over the stories in such detail that you pick up on the style of the writers and learn to understand details in writing. Great guy and will take him for ENG 1302!!!
Do not take this guy if you do then it will be big mistake. In our class only 1 or 2 students got an A but rest either failed or had bad grade b/c the way he says he does not usually gives an A. Don't take him u will waste ur money, energy, and u will be in full of stress.
If you enjoy analysis of authors and are proficient at writing take him. If you are not skilled in analyzing essays and writing within the MLA format get ready. I enjoyed his class even though it was lot of work. Keep with the assignments and turn them in on time and he will grade you fairly. Midterm and Final are in class blue book.
do not take this class only 1 student got A and rest we all got C's and B's .
Mr. Whitebird is a great teacher. He will grade fair if you turn in all assignments and listen to his lectures. Taking notes is highly recommended. I look forward to taking him again for 1302!
Professor Whitebird is a very good professor! His mind set is different, and he has a unique way of breaking down a story. If you pay attention to his lecture and take notes, there is NO WAY you fail his class!
I loved his class
overall he tried, i was graded "A"s for midterm, final, research essays "b" for my response logs and somehow I made a "c+" at the end his lectures seemed to drag at times, and he wasnt clear about the online section that resulted in my poor grade (be sure to keep on him about grades, as he changes his mind throughout the semester
He is not clear on how the students supposed to read and understand the materials in class. Very critical when in comes to grading your paper, and must go with his opinions and methods. He made students come all the way to class just to pick up the final paper and see their grades in front of other students. He teaches and grades as he pleases.
Do your response logs, do your online connect and if you have trouble with your essays just go to the writing center. Literally everything you need to know to get an A
Prof is easy and very interesting. He makes the class lively. Participation is a good thing, If you can take notes, write almost everything you can hear. Easy grader. Must turn in assignment on time. Lateness will cost you. I am new to English but got A in all my papers and fell short due to late turn in of portfolio. I ended up with C.
Professor whitebird is by far one of the nicest professors I've encountered in my college career! Very understanding! If you do your work right, you will receive a good grade. Lectures are long, but it's ok. **If you're reading this Mr. Whitebird, you are the coolest! :)**
He is a really good professor. As long as you write at least the correct amount of words hit the topic at least somewhat you will get a B. BUT attendance is MANDATORY. If you tend to miss class a lot DO NOT take him. He kicked someone out of the final for missing class. I missed some, he gave me a warning and it was all good!! Would suggest!
Knows the material by heart, can teach difficult subjects from memory. He is really passionate about his work and it shows during discussions.
Professor Whitebird is quite the expert on the material. He can lecture from memory, and is quite knowledgeable about the literary themes, styles and so forth for all of the material covered. Quite well-versed in alternate translations and interpretations. Gives good feedback. You really need to actually read the material.
-Funny, lovable, charismatic teacher! -No tests, 4 essays, reading logs *due @ end of sem*, & weekly quizzes. -Loves participation & when students know what they're talking about. -Book is very much needed! -Attendance not very mandatory. -Very independent course, if you don't have motivation then don't take his class. But you'd be mising out!
Very creative in showing his students different ways to analyze an essay. He's the type of person that laughs at their own joke and that makes you laugh. Overall, he is a fair grader and gives great feedback!
As a visual learner, I found this class more difficult than it really is. The professor just stands infront of the classroom and talks until class is over. Writing his essays, youll have to do your own research on how to structure it bc he doesnt explain much on that. Overall, doing the reading he assigns will keep you in line.
the worse teacher you can ever imagine he does not do anything in class you have to work by yourself he puts everything on students he does not bother himself to explain or be clear i would not recommend taking him at all
Gives a research paper assignment worth 40% of grade but fails to clearly explain what to do. Does not respond to emails unless he feels you deserve a response. If he cancels class you wont find out until your at the classroom door. A lot of writing and reading! Lectures are long and often don't have anything to do with the topic!
He is a very tough grader that's for sure, but once you get the concept of critical analysis everything is easy. There is so many reading logs. Just make sure you do them on time so they won't all accumulate when it's time to turn it in. Nice teacher. No tests just essays! How easier can it get?
I had several personal incidents this semester and Mr. Whitebird was nothing but understanding, compassionate and willing to help! If you're open minded, you will definitely enjoy his lectures. Although I did not made an A, I can sincerely say I learned a lot on his class! Sometimes he might be unclear about his instructions but he's an easygrader
Took his class Summer 2016, Heavy on lecture and reading is a MUST to be able to participate in class discussions. He is easy going as long as you are there and do your work. EASY A if you do your work!!!!, I would of gotten an A if I would of had the time to fully complete assignments. MUST: listen, take notes, READ
Professor Whitebird should be teaching at the highest level; like at an Ivy Leauge school or something like that! You don't come across a knowledgeable, old school teacher who has dedicated his life to his passion every day, especially at a community college! You have to earn your grade but if you really care about learning; then TAKE HIS CLASS.
4 papers and one presentation. Doesn't tell you what he requires content wise for the papers. He talks more about his own life than English and talks way too much in a very monotone voice. Do your very best work on everything you turn in because he is a harsh grader, but very passionate. If you do not read the readings he assigns, he will quiz you.
You have to read, you have to be involved in the discussion, you have to follow the *rules* of English. But that's what the class is for! He covers great topics, he's easy to get along with, but bear in mind that this is not a class where "there is no such thing as a stupid question" because well, there is such a thing.
He gives out work and asks us to get it done. Does not go into detail. When he lectures (which is everyday) he talks a lot of nothing. He's not very clear and everyone in my class is currently lost. We never know what we're doing or how to do it. He will put you to sleep and he grades extremely tough.
If you are a procrastinator i would not take his class. If you are taking more then one class i would not take his class. If you have a job i suggest you don't take his class. It could be tough balancing all the work he gives! Its seriously bonkers. You'll probably have grey hairs by the end of the semester. I mean but he's a nice guy though
Not clear at all on assignments. Rambles most of the time. Makes you seem like youre bothering him when you ask questions. You wont know class is cancelled until you get to class and see it on the board. He refuses to use his email to interact w/us. Doesnt post grades. READ A TON. Gives out work &just expects you to know what to do. PICK ANOTHER
Even though you have to read you learn a lot from his lectures if you participate and actually read the material and turn in the work on time you should be fine. Be on class on time and be there is important. There might be some reading but if you actually do the work you will enjoy the class. He is a very good professor and very smart
Great professor. Smart and with a lot of knowledge. I learn a log even when English is my 2nd language.
