Dr. Gertmanian is one of the best teachers I've had the privelege of studying under... however, many students find his class frustrating because it's a) a tremendous amount of work, and b) not the usual read-the-text, take-the-test. Very exacting.
Great tecaher, choose this program over UCLA because of this prof. Don't listen to stuudents who thought he was hard, not at all.
Professor doesn't allow notes or laptops. Long lectures with few breaks. Weekend classes usually required in addition to class time.
Lots of work in the beginning of semester but eases at the end. genuinely care for his students. A must take class if you don't mind the work.
If you finish the program without Dr. G you missed the best prof. one can ask for
The best professor I've had. He's one that I won't soon forget.
One of the best professors in the school
If it wasn't for Dr. G, I might have left the program.
Dr. G is Excellent! Makes the entire MBA program at Pepperdine worthwhile.
This prof makes the entire MBA program worth $55,000.If you do not take him you, will be CHEATED out of your education at Pepperdine.
One of the best. Never a dull moment. Everyone should take this class, you will learn more in here then almost any other class!
By far the best Pepperdine has to offer. You don't take notes in class because Dr. G wants your full attention. You will be challenged both emotionally and intellectually. You not only WILL learn economics, you will also build on your character.
Best Prof I ever had!!!
By far the best professor I have ever had. He cares about his student, has vast personal experience and knowledge, and he teaches the class with real world examples that are valuable to the classroom environment.
Dr. G gives his heart and soul to the pursuit of excellence. His class reflects a respect for students and their right to learn. Anyone interested in quality in the classroom should take Dr. G's class
Hot Air
Extremely knowledgeable, Fair, Straight forward, plan on memorizing information and just do the work and you will do great. As far as content he was the best professor I had at Pepperdine hands down. Great information and even better stories.
Didn't find overly difficult but very much worth the tuition dollars. Dr. G teaches you much more than just economics in the class and is etertaining to listen to. While some stories seemed a little out there, the lessons he teaches you through them are great! A++
Best teacher I've ever had. Challenging, but when I look back at the MBA program Dr. G's material is the information that I have retained. You are missing out if you pass through the program and have not had a class with him.
Amazing Professor. Life experience and knowledge of the subject is impressive. Very concerned about students understanding of the subject. Of all the classes at Pepperdine this is a must take.
Best Professor I ever had!
This was the best teacher I had at Pepperdine. He was hard, demanding, talked for 4 hours straight without a break but he was so captivating I didn't even notice the time fly by. Each class was so fascinating that I looked forward to Monday Nights. If you have the chance to take him, do!
Hands down one of the best professor I have had in my academic history. Top shelf professor.
...a modern day prohpet, a scholar, and philosopher (i.e., Hugh Akston)! (personal note for dr G: still reading from your 100 books list, and thank you for this list, I'm still learning from you since graduation BSM 1999, D Annanders, II!)
This course was extremely challenging and incredibly rewarding due entirely to the professor. This class was taught by the best professor I've ever had.
terrible
Prof has an abbrasive style, but makes you pay attention. Great real-world teachings. Tests are tough, but in the end it is worth it.
this guy is horrible
Armenian guy, too focused on the middle east
Do yourself a favor and make your MBA education worth it by taking Dr. G for Econ. He seems scary, but you will know price theory like the back of your hand when you're done. He goes the extra mile for his students, despite being an accomplished businessman, scholar and father. My Pepperdine experience would have been unsatisfactory without Dr.G.
Worth the time and effort. Inspiring.
Dr. Gertmenian is passionate about his students and what he teaches. His unique teaching style is a refreshing reminder that intellectual exchange requires just that, an exchange.
Intimidating at first, but you get used to him. Is a fantastic story teller. Uses real work examples, intergrates them into economics to make interesting. There is a lot of work, but doesn't overwhelm you.
You can't take notes, and there is a lot of work, but the professor explains very clearly and there is no question as to what will be tested.
Incredible - by far the best experience thus far.
well organized, thoughful about how to teach the material, always on time (but keeps you late), very humorous -- by far one of the best professors I have had @ Pepperdine. By all means if you can get into his class do it, you will more than you can imagine.
If you are looking for an easy class following along in a text book, move along. If you don't like to participate, move along. This was truly the most amazing course. You learn so much about all subjects, not just Econ, and more than anyone would dare put in a book. Just be ready for an intense and unique learning experience like nothing else.
I learned a lot in this class; I also put in a ton of time. He makes you think, not just about economics but life in general. Tests were extremely hard, but I left the class feeling I got my money's worth. I'd take him again in a heartbeat.
Dr. G's class was an amazing experience. You will learn so much. He teaches you life lessons and prepares you for your future. It's not an easy class and it requires a lot of work. Believe me, it's worth it. Listen to everything he says and make a permanent note of it in your memory. By far the best teacher I've ever had.
This should be a mandatory class for all Pepperdine students - not just in the Business school and everyone should have to take it with Dr. G.
I have probably learned more in this course alone that I will learn in all of my other MBA courses combined. Please Please do not miss this opportunity to learn from the best teacher I have ever had the opportunity to learn from.
I had Dr. G ten years ago and his lessons are the life ones that stick the longest and mean the most.
Love hate relationship. You hate the fact that he is so demanding, you love the fact that you are learning a lot and that he is very ineteresting.
One of the Worst Professors - No assigned text, Students are not allowed to wear watches or take notes in lectures, TA does all grading, tests take 3 hours + to finish -extremely difficult -all memory. Tells anecdotes during class and embarasses students during lectures through confrontation. Definitely knowledgeable in the topic but too abrasive.
Very Glad I took this class with Dr. G. You learn more about econ than you think you would. A very demanding teacher but WELL WORTH the 15 weeks of class... He reminds me of my old football coach... He's very passionate about this subject and life...
Very Glad I took this class with Dr. G. You learn more about econ than you think you would. A very demanding teacher but WELL WORTH the 15 weeks of class... He reminds me of my old football coach... He's very passionate about this subject and life...
He is a life teacher. Everybody should take a class with him. The best teacher I've ever had in my life.
Loved the class! The best professor I've ever had. Not an easy class, so avoid a weekend class if you can, you'll have your hands full with once-a-week class. Not able to take notes is not an issue as all notes and flashcards to reapare for exams is available online. Take Dr.G if you are not afraid of a challenge, he's class is well worth the work!
Tough class, and be READY to work. EVERYTHING you need to know is the his "Primer", so memorize it. You're going to hate this class at the start, but in the end, miss the professor and will realize how much he taught you. But be ready to work your ass off. My recommendation - DO NOT take the Friday/Saturday weekend courses, if offered
Way too much material for most to keep up with. I got an A but because I got his daughter as a tutor with our group. Without a tutor, I would have had a B and worked way too hard for it. Exams are difficult because so much material is given. Tutor narrows the material for you, making it easier, but costs about $60/hr.
Engineer turned Manager. Never took an Econ class prior (HS does not count). Dr.G. will teach you everything you need to know about Econ and more! Not for the weak. If you cheated or slacked off in the past, go somewhere else. If you want to succeed and make a difference, take his class. You will thank him afterwards. If you're weak, stay away!
Dr. G is the best professor I have ever had! He has so much real-world experience but also has a well thought out teaching philosophy. Everyone was using tutors by the end of the class.
You are not allowed to use a pen or pencil for note taking in class. Hence: just study the book and the generic notes accessible from other classes. Beware, he has an over-the-top ego and is unbelievably impressed with himself. If you decide to take him...good luck. However, if you have any other choice - you'd be very wise to take someone else.
Do NOT take his course unless you KNOW you want Dr. G. All comments are correct. He is egotistical, kind, abrasive, wise, hard, caring, demanding, and you will learn more than you thought possible. The only people who leave bad comments are those who didn't 'know about him'. Majority of students love him, but def not a slacker class.Prepare to work
The amount of knowledge I gained from this class is unreal. I would take the class again if I could. Really dwarfs all other professors at Pepperdine. People leaving negative comments are the slackers who wanted to breeze through the class. If you don't want to work, don't take this class.
Professor actually cares about students. You will be yelled at, but only to foster movement and get your brain going. He relaxes after a few sessions. I hated Econ and got a C in the subject previously, but got a B this time around.
The amount of work you put will equal what you retain. Great guy and excellent teacher.
You won't be able to take any notes, textbook is a joke, lots of after class work (great if you don't have job), and he will yelled at you any chance he gets...do I need to say more?
Best professor at Pepperdine.
This was the best class I have ever taken. Although the work was intense I will miss Dr. G's lectures. All professors should be this good.
THE GREATEST PROFESSOR EVER! IT IS A BIT DIFFICULT BUT IT IS WORTH EVERY SECOND OF IT! TAKE THE CLASS, DONT BE AFRAID :-)
Dr. G is one of those teachers you will never forget. He geniuninely loves teaching, and is extremely proud when his students perform well in his class. He has an exorbitant amount of energy which make his lectures exhausting; yet he keeps you engaged through numerous stories (some made up!) You will learn a lot more than just Econ in this class.
Dr. G is a rare breed of professor. His lectures and life stories are fascinating and polished. He's like Pepperdine's version of the most interesting man in the world. Know what you're getting into! No note taking in class, lots of group homework and no real feedback. Get a tutor! His daughter will get you an A for about the price of a text book.
Dr. G is a joke. Does not allow note taking,he acts militant, espects you to pay attention and 4 hours, and he doe snot believe in breaks. this sounded more like a history class than economics, useless info. dont follow the cult. Take Gift!!!
Dr. G is by far the best professor I have ever taken. The class was tough, and he is demanding, but he is energetic, makes you want to learn, and gets the best out of you. I learned far more than just econ.
A+ quality professor. I recommend!
Yes tough, but why do you want to get to know economics if you're not sharp anyway?
If you choose not to take Dr. G, you're doing yourself a huge disfavor. He is one of the best professors Pepperdine has, but he won't be teaching forever. Take him before it's too late.
The legends are true. It's amazing how much he knows. Take Dr. G.
He will keep you in class for 4-5 hours with no breaks sometimes, but you will enjoy every moment wanting more. Notes are illegal: "Secretaries take notes; I'm preparing you to run corporations." His experiences at the capitol, in the NSC, being educated, with family, etc. round out the class. "You can only learn by making mistakes." You will.
This is a hard class, but worth every minute! Dr. G is so inspirational and he teaches you so much throughout. It is not an easy class and takes a lot of work, but it is worth it in the end. If you show up, do the work, pay attention and study, you will get an A. I loved the class and I'm glad I had Dr. G as my professor.
Great professor. If you study hard you will be alright. Dr G is an old school style academic who can care less for students who do not have his intellectual curiosity. You gotta have thick skin, though.
My life will be forever divided into life before Dr. G's class and life after. He's the real deal. The best professor I have ever had.
Excellent class and excellent professor - both challenging and engaging.
I took his graduate Econ class 20 years ago. He is the only professor''s name I remember. Our classes scheduled for 5-6 almost always lasted to midnight. He is an expert has a large ego but is willing to help if you see him during office hours. You will need to study hard to make the grade. Hardest class I ever had and I have two master''s.
Hands down best professor I've ever had. I wish I had the time to sit through all his lectures again. The man is a genius.
Dr. G was one of the hardest professors I have ever taken but also one of the best. His lectures seem like random, irrelevant stories but he is always able to tie them back together in the end, and it has all come in handy for the next level of econ. Breaks are short & he keeps you until late, and I never thought I would be so happy to get a B.
Dr. G doesn't allow notes, so pay attn. notes posted online from prior classes, easy to access. Daughter is a tutor for his class, makes it so much easier to grasp the amount of info. Prof is great, very interesting man.
Dr. G is an overrated professor in terms of content you will learn. He's an amazing lecturer, makes things interesting, but the first 6 weeks will be dedicated to history & philosophers rather than economics (this could have been a one week lecture). He also does not talk about current events or let open discussions occur.
Hands down the best lectures you'll ever hear. Dr. G is one of Pepperdine's most valuable assets. You'll be doing a great disservice to your MBA experience if you take an Econ professor other than Dr. G.
He tought nothing of great value aside of hubris . Jockeys guild sued him for fraud and falsification of credentials . The class was supposed to teach microeconomics , though his incessant talking for hours about himself made it very difficult to learn the subject . I passed his class and learned hardly anything about microeconomics there
Hugely difficult class -- way more information loaded into the lectures than you'll ever need to know about Economics. Don't plan on a social life this semester -- tutor required to pass! Must have excellent memorization skills for vocabulary tests.
Dr. G is an amazing lecturer but that won't help you on the exams or the homework. His class is designed so that you can learn about the business world from his 4.5+ hours of lecture but the material you are tested on comes directly from the tutors. See the tutors for all of the exams and you will do fine. Do not really on anything else to pass.
Get ready for the hardest class of your life. He is very interesting, has had a fascinating life, and his advice is invaluable. I did not, however, learn that much about economics. Every lecture went 30 to 60 minutes late, the exams were impossible, and you can't pass without getting tutored by his daughter. Take someone else, but get to know him.
Lecture heavy is an understatement. Prof. Wayne loves to hear himself talk. You must use one of his resources for tutoring.!! The class is mainly non-stop lecture. He talks a lot about himself, & while interesting, you primarily learn by yourself thru reading, self teaching & working with tutors he assigns. Isn't this school expensive enough?
Great professor. A must take in my opinion, but be ready for a REALLY tough class. LOTS of memorization. Use of tutors is not required like others have said, but doing so could bump you a letter grade. Homework isn't too bad and prepares you for lectures. Tests are incredibly difficult (and Dr. G tells you so).
Dr. G is the most amazing professor I have ever taken. His class is intimidating at first, but put the work in and you will be fine. Tutoring is not mandatory, if you follow his suggestions you will not need it. My friends did not attend tutoring sessions and received A's (just put the work in). 100% would recommend! Be prepared to study and read.
Dr. G is a great guy but I don't think the class structure is fair. No calculators on tests. The lecture material is not tested on. Test are insanely hard, some students who knew their stuff were worry. you want to pass you have to get tutored by his daughter which is annoying cause she charges. STAY AWAY from Dr. G unless you want to reck ur GPA.
If you have the chance to take Dr. G, do it! His lectures are incredible and hes one of the best PGBS has to offer. The reviews are true, youll work for your grade but he tells you what to do to pass from day one. Listen! HW is due weekly but its a group effort. Exams are tough; tutoring helps but is not mandatory. Dont miss out on Dr. G!
Dr. G. is amazing and taking his course is a must if you have the chance. Every lecture is fascinating. Paying attention in class is crucial to getting a good grade. Dr. G. lays out exactly what you need to know & do to do well. The class is very unique and is very influential if you buy in. Don't believe the naysayers who just couldn't cut it.
Dr. G has given me by far the worst academic experience inside a classroom. He is rude, thinks he knows it all, talks about China way too much and is this a Econ class or a history memorization class? Ridiculous... wasted 7k on his class and took it again to get an A with Dr. Moore! She is a well rounded individual unlike Dr. G! You will regret him
Doesnt not clearly state what will be tested on during exams, students were cheating as soon as he left the classroom and later on I asked what those students got in that class and some really smart students even said that the test were ridiculously challenging. Some even said google would not even help. The material is from his tutors which u $
Dr. G is the best professor I have had in my life! He teaches more than econ and is incredibly intelligent. I would highly recommend taking his class. Don't be afraid of a challenge. I have to econ or business background and I still got an A. I highly recommend getting a tutor and studying with a group before the exams! Dr. G is a GEM!
THE BEST!
You get a lot more out of Dr. Gs class than just Economics, which he teaches really well. I know because I took business in undergrad and didnt understand it. He lays it out as it is. Just pay attention and follow his advice how to study for his class. Work together as a class and share recorded lectures and homework, plus work with assistants.
You're in business school and you're here to LEARN. Get ready to take Dr. G because you will learn. You'll have to work for it. Absolute gem! Please know that this is not an easy A class but it is so worth it! Go to all lectures. I put mandatory attendance above because seriously he drops so many pearls of wisdom. Go to his classes! Don't skip!
Dr G Is one of if not the best professor I've ever had. The first two weeks of class will scare you but it gets much better afterwards.
Dr. G is an incredible professor. I took his graduate economics course this summer. It's very challenging, but I learned a lot, and remember it months later. I am now applying what I learned in my marketing class. Take his class! You'll be so glad you did!
