very thorough, not boring, smart
You could do alot worse.

Teacher should realize her opinions are not superior to the course content. I would rather get the truth than her interpretation of the truth. For example, globalization is not always a good thing. What about the pros and cons?
I agree with the previous poster. This professor tends to assert her opinions in such a way that the class might see it as her stating a fact to take down in their notes. Don't even attempt to tell her it isn't appropriate to market her charity in class!

I really didn't like her. She would go on and on about the same topics. Also, she should definitely be on What Not to Wear!!!
Attendance doesn't matter with this instructor, nor does it improve your grade!!
came across as somewhat unorganized
teacher was boring
This teacher was extremely helpful if you went to seek her guidance during office hours. Also, she seemed to genuinely care about the students. Great teacher!
She is really helpful and the classes are easy. I never missed a class and got a B. She is really helpful in making time to meet with students outside of class. I would recommend her!
Laura is a great economist, but I have to agree with some of the other student's opinions on the globalization issue. The class was difficult, at best, and the amount of reading which was required was overwhelming. Neither of the instructors seemed to take into account that their students had other classes to worry about. Tough exams too!!
She is very helpful. The class is a pain in the ass but she is a very good teacher. She will go over papers before they are do and help you change them...and then give you a good grade for trying!!
Great teacher, really understood the topic and she was very cheerful and seemed to really want to be there and was willing to help anyone if they needed and provided lots of help.. i hope to have her again
Hard to pay attention because she asks for NO class participation. She does seem to be happy to be there and cheerful though.
Prof. Wolff was so-so. I earned an A in the class, but I had to work at it. Her tests are hard because the multiple choice is worded badly. The class is boring, but she is a smart lady.
Great professor. A little challenging but, is VERY helpful if you go into her office. Does take a little work to get a B.
Not saying she is not smart, but her lectures are not interesting, she bombards with notes. When you get the quiz or test, it is worded to trick you every time. This class is really hard.
Dont take her if you can help it! She is very disorganized and hard to follow. You have a quiz every class only worth 5 points but they add up quick. Study vocab for exams.
She obviously knows what she is talking about, but unfortunately, she thinks the students are already experts as well and expects us to understand whatever she says. She talks really fast, she skirts around answering questions, and her tests are all trick questions. Don't take this class unless you're freakishly smart!!!!!!
Class was very hard. no fun. quiz everyday. exams extremely difficult!
DONT TAKE HER!it is her way or no way. my friend and i had the same answer on a test(exact same question) and she wouldnt even look at it after it was handed back. all she talks about is how awesome her life is. is a horrible teacher, knows her stuff, but doesnt know how to get it across to students. also.she brags about her 60% fail rate. WTF?
DO NOT TAKE HER!!! SHe is the HARDEST ECON teacher at SIUE. She odes not explain anything as well as she should and even when i had a meeting with her to ask for help i STILL didnt understand what she was saying. Unless you LOVE econ or know alot about it, dont take her.
This woman is the worst teacher at this school. She is useless as hell and you have to read the wall street journal everyday. This is a frickin entry level class. Give me a break. This class was ridiculous and worthless to my life and I am now dumber after listening to her. For the love of God do not take her. She will rip you a new ****!
Horrible Teacher!!! She will not help you and she talks soft and FAST! Hard Tests and Quizzes! Sucky Class!!!!
I highly recommend not taking this class with her. She has a 5 point quiz every day, they arent bad but they get annoying after a while. Teaches the class like you should already have some sort of idea already. Journal project was a waste of time, I figured I would be done with busy work once I graduated highschool!
Lectures with a power point that the text book company made which made class boring. The journal assignment was stupid, but make sure you start on it early. I crammed for 2 1/2 hours before the exams and did all right. If I would have done the same for the first one I would have gotten an A. Exams were around 30 MC questions, on concepts and vocab.
She is a nice enough person and knows her subject very well, but it takes a lot of concentration to really understand what she is explaining. it's a class I would have read out of the text book if it weren't for the daily 5 point quizzes that make up a huge chunk of your final grade. tests are hard. be prepared to do some serious studying!
She is a nice lady, and she really knows her stuff, but she doesn't teach it very well. She kinda just tells it to you like you should already know what she's talking about. We haven't had daily 5 pt. quizzes though. Her tests are super hard. she's also mention about 30 times that shes very bright...which gets annoying..not recommended
I would suggest taking someone elses ECON 111. I will admit that she is a nice lady, but she doesn't make sense. She'll use power point, more as a back drop than actually teaching off of it. You almost need to already have taken Econ to understand what she is talking about. Quizes EVERYDAY and the exams are almost impossible.
DON'T EVER TAKE A CLASS WITH THIS WOMAN!! She is a nice lady, but she doesn't test you over the material she teaches... which obviously results in failing grades. I should have known to drop it while I could, considering on the first day, she told us "Don't expect an A or a B in this class... Half of you won't even pass this class."
HARDEST teacher I had this semester. She knows her material there's no doubt about that, but she's completely oblivious on how to actually teach it. Bottom line is she sucks. If you want to actually pass ECON I suggest a different teacher
DO NOT TAKE HER!!! She talks about her family and wastes class time! She is not interesting when she talks. You also have to do a big project at the end of the year... Pick another teacher!!
She's a fair instructor. I personally thought the workload for a 100 level class was a bit excessive (IS3-- had less work). She has a hard time staying on one topic and the examples given only added to the confusion. She talks way too fast and going to her office helped minimally. She is flexible with due dates.
Wolff is an expert at economics she just can't teach it. She doesn't explain anything, she just reads off the powerpoint.
Extremely hard to understand and very confusing. She talks way too fast and expects you to already know what she is talking about. I learned abo****ely nothing in this class. I recommend that you find a different teacher!!
This is a very difficult teacher, especially for an introductory course. Her lectures are confusing, and the tests are worded horribly. Make sure you study alot before tests. There is also a journal assignment, which is heavily time consuming, as well as mandatory volunteer work, so expect to spend alot of time out of class doing assignments.
Horrible Professor!! Do NOT take ECON 111 with her! She explains topics in her own terms which is very confusing! I had to teach this subject to myself! Requires a stupid Wall-Street Journal Project & a community service project outside of the university as well! Save yourself the headache and register with another professor!!
Absolutely terrible professor. Ridiculous workload for a 100-level class, and the tests are all multiple choice where every answer sounds exactly the same. Attendance is not mandatory considering her classes usually have 80-100 people in them. Rambles on to the point where she doesn't even talk about the material anymore. Don't take her classes!
Horrible, horrible professor. She might be good at economics, but she is terrible at teaching it. Hard to understand, and completely uncaring of any questions we had. Not helpful at all. This class will wreck your GPA. Do not take it!
AH she made me want to rip my hair out every class! She lectures like you already know what she is talking about and he tests and quizes are unbelievably hard! She tells you on the first day of class that over half will drop and 70% will get a C or lower. Do yourself a favor and get a different professor!
She hates answering questions, but it's her job! Does not like repeating herself, grits her teeth when students ask questions. Talks way too fast, asks for too much that other Econ classes at the school do not require.
Very hard to follow...
get.out.now. do NOT take her.
This woman has no clue HOW to teach! She might be brilliant, but her tests are unnecessarily difficult, and she can't explain ANYTHING! Avoid her at all costs!!!
This teacher is horrible! She doesn't know how to teach and is not going to help you if you ask questions! Don't even bother to study because the test is so backwards you won't know how to figure any of it out. She has a 60% fail rate and is proud, (its a 100 class!) Do yourself a favor and sign up for a different professor!
This was not a good class. I got a C and had to do A work in regards to homework and studying. I went into tests capable of answering any questions you would find in the notes or book, but she words her questions in a way that makes them nearly incomprehensible. The "which of the following is false" questions are pure garbage. Avoid her.
She has a tendency to repeat herself a lot and talk to you like you're an idiot. But the class isn't too hard as long as you put in the work.
My grade: B; Attendance: Mandatory, but only based on the fact she gives pop quizzes; Notes: No need to take any, just read the book and do the quizzes/homework; Exams: Fairly easy except the wording can sometimes be difficult; Helpfulness: Very, but she talks over your head.
TERRIBLE!!!!
HORRIBLE TEACHER! I am very organized and learn the material a teacher gives if they give it correctly. She does not know how to teach a class. attended every single class and will still probably have to retake the class over! you have no idea what to study for the test. She rewords the questions to make the test impossible to answer correctly.
I thought this was an introductory class...She also lets students just walk out in the middle of her lecture disrupting her class because she never took attendance.
Please save yourself from wasting your time and money and DON'T take her. I thought she was going to be fairly easy, but her tests are extremely difficult. Your grade is essentially defined by the four tests. Very disappointed.
A very nice lady. She knows her stuff, but she pretty much reads off of the PowerPoints. Her journal assignment isn't as bad as people say it is. Definitely a grade booster. Her tests are extremely vague. I read the book & the PowerPoints & still got a C on her tests. I'd suggest taking another professor, just to be on the safe side.
Professor Wolff is a very knowledgeable teacher. GO TO THE BOOK's WEBSITE AND USE THE PRACTICE TESTS! if you do this then the exams will be easier. I had to study a lot for the class. If you want and A or B it is best to sit in the front because as much as she tries, it is very dry and boring entry level stuff.
Do not take this class with this professor. She reads from the PowerPoint and uses the same examples over and over again. She is very boring. She is knowledgeable about the subject matter but she does not know how to present the material to students. Going to class is a waste of time unless she is working an example. This class is a complete waste of time and energy. She promises to have the grades up by a certain time but doesn't follow through. Words tests horribly. Save yourself the trouble!
Had no problem, although I relied on the book.
All I can say is Good Luck. Her class is dry and her tests are very hard. One of the students was a broker for a few years and tutored. I bombed my first test and then got an A on the next after reviewing one on one with this tutor. So if you have Wolff, then ask her for tutoring from Karen... Tutoring is the best way to pass.
Gives you too much work for no apparent reason!
She is a horrible teacher, boring andextremely dry, will have to retake it with a different professor next semester
She is a fine teacher. I went into the class hearing that she was very hard, but this is not true. If you may attention in class and go over the notes, you should have no problem getting an A in the class. She will help you if you need it. If you're not interested in economics she probably won't get you excited about it though.
She has very high expectations, but if you're interested in majoring in business, economics/finance, this is the professor to take. Because she wants you to understand everything, if you work hard you will come out having a wealth of knowledge. USE THE BOOK!!!
This class was awful. I attended every lecture and it didn't help at all. The material is not presented in clear way through Power points and she throws random stuff in the tests. Nice lady who knows the material very well, just doesn't know how to teach it effectively.
Avoid at all cost! She was terrible and her exams were ridiculously difficult despite how much I studied.
I was extremely nervous before taking her because of all of the negative comments on this site, but she's not bad. If you read the book (yes, you need to read the book), study the powerpoints, and show up to class there is absolutely no reason you can't get at least a "B". I got a high "A" in her class by simply doing the things listed above.
Absolutely terrible. Expects you to already know the course material. Does not teach at all. Avoid her class by any means.
If you want to do good in Wolff's class, be prepared to work hard. Her lectures aren't very helpful and the tests are extremely tricky. You must know EVERYTHING about the chapters or you will be stumped on the tests
DO NOT TAKE HER. Her lectures are super contradicting and so scattered. She doesn't teach things in order so it's all confusing. She laughs at herself when things aren't funny and you literally can't learn anything. She doesn't grade accurately and just overall knows her stuff but doesn't know how to teach. Have to retake it next semester. K bye
This is by far the worst class i have ever taken. the teacher is no help. she is always all over the place and goes off topic all the time. her tests are nothing what we talk about in class. very hard to understand and doesn't take the time to help out the students. i would avoid if you can!
This class was very tricky. Her lectures did not cover anything that was over the test. Tests were extremely hard despite 15+ hours spent studying. I was in her office every week trying to get help. I wouldn't recommend taking her, I struggled to keep a B.
Dreadfully unorganized. Typically spends 80% of class talking about her side projects. You're on your own as far as tests are concerned. Teach yourself the designated chapters because you won't receive much guidance during class time.
I would not recommend taking her for Econ, especially if you're a freshman or sophomore and still getting used to the school. Sincerely a sweet lady, and wants kids to succeed; however, she is very scattered, spends a lot of time talking about what to do outside of class (study powerpoints watch youtube videos) instead of actually teaching.
Scatter-brained but really knows her stuff. She is there for the student and she really shows that.
She is a very nice lady and knows her stuff, but lacks the ability to teach what she knows. We started a new online learning thing this year and i learn more from that then when i come to class and listen to her drone on about things irrelevant to the discussion at hand. She goes all over the place, so paying attention is difficult.
While she is all over at times, her power points and sample test problems make tests pretty easy. If you understand her power points, you'll do fine. She also gives worksheets that you go over in class. The tests have a large portion that is almost exactly like the worksheet, giving you a lot of free points.
Lectures were all over the place with no clear structure. Went through power points very quick. Exams were extremely hard and the only grades.
Save your time and wasted energy and just pick a different teacher. Like others said, all over the place and when you walk in she starts teaching like you already know what everything is and have already taken the class before. Went to office hours after a test one time to ask what I should be doing different and she just said i should try harder.
Dreadful teacher. Finally emails out study guide at 10:30 the night before the test. Multiple questions on the study guide are incorrect which made me fail the tests but she doesn't care. She requires you to attend events such as homecoming/sports games etc and this is worth a grade. why? It's pointless. You'll regret taking her class, they all do!
absolutely terrible- do not waste your time and money in her class. Her tests are absurd and they are majority of your grade. I have never done so bad in a class.
She is a great person but a horrible teacher. She does a horrible job of explaining the content and the test are stupid hard.
I've never heard of anyone passing her class
She said going 5 over the speed limit was white privilege in an econ class, but I don't think she was really as difficult as others are saying.
In class lectures are awful because she only talks about current economics and nothing about the actual stuff we are trying to learn. A bunch of wasted time listening to her ramble about useless information not involving or studies.
Don't. Just don't. I tried to take 2 classes with this woman and dropped both. She's so nice and a great person, but trust everyone else - do NOT take her class if it can be avoided at all. She never puts in grades, her tests are difficult, and she gives out a TON of homework. Do not attempt at any cost. Frustrating and not worth the effort.
(My first semester in college)She was a good teacher, it is just the material that is boring. Rounds grades if you are close. Very lecture heavy
Terrible at returning work back on time. The tests are nothing like what she teaches you in class. She lets you do redos of the test but takes the average score between your two tests. She is really nice and very willing to help but honestly the class made no sense to me all semester. She doesn't teach very well and you have lots of online homework
worst instructor I have ever had. Does not explain anything and acts as if you have already been in an ECON class before. Would NEVER recommend
She does not make any sense when she is talking. She talks about things that are irrelevant to the chapter we are learning about. Her online homework is quiz grades only and a small percentage for homework grade. She takes forever to answer her emails, and is never clear when answering a question. She doesn't teach from the book.
Wolff did a terrible job of explaining the course material. She often gets distracted and talks about irrelevant topics. She acts like everyone in the class should already know what she is talking about when most of us had no idea. She doesn't teach, she simply reads the slides off the board. She moves too fast and doesn't explain anything.
it didn't matter weather I went to her class for the week or didn't show up at all, the grades I got on the weekly quizes were always the same. Her class was pointless and you basically have to teach yourself. There are weekly quizes that are taken in lock down browsers and are very point heavy.
Very helpful, wants you to pass and will do anything to help. responsive to emails. Has weekly quizzes (with one redo) and homework grades. While it is sometimes alot of work, it is better than only 3 test grades. no final
