He is good about helping if you have a question. Goes through material very fast and you really need to know a lot from previous classes to keep up. Do homework problems it helps a lot!!
This professor lets you use cheat sheets on the tests and the final. You also have quizzes every week. The info. was hard, but he made it easy to get a good grade, b/c of the cheat sheets. I'd recommend this professor.
Lets you use a cheat sheet for all your exams (front and back). You can exempt the exam and get an automatic 90 if you get in the top or are the lowest on the quizzes (after every chapter). YOu can use a cheat sheet on the quizzes too. They are all T/F. Other than exempting the exam, the quizzes don't count for anything. Good professor!
failed Brotman's class, so this was a welcome relief. He is fun and helps you stay awake at 8:00 am. His quizzes are optional, but spend tons of time taking notes for them, so you can use them on each quiz, and hopefully exempt his exams. if you have to take the exam, he still let you have 2 pages of notes. if you hate finance, take his class
Quizzes unpredictable, but optional. (Study like crazy to get automatic 90 on test if top 10% of class grades). Thinks that by writing problems on the board with little to no explanation, that everything is "intuitive" to the class. Tests were very different from class material. Would rather leave early than go in-depth explanation. Take someone el
First off, yeah you get an automatic A if you're in top 10% of quizzes, but the theyre not easy, so dont expect to get top10 w/o reading the chapters THOROUGHLY. Hes not good at teaching and he dosnt like teaching. you can use cheat sheets on tests but most profs in finance let you see the formulas anyway.not easy class overall, must teach urself
Hard class but flexible. Knows his stuff.
knows finance backwards and forwards. don't ask stupid questions that mean you didn't pay attention or didn't read, and you'll get an A
Automatic A if you are in the top 20% of T/F quizzes. Test aren't hard. You are allowed to use 1 sheet worth of notes for the quizzes and tests. 2 for the final. Class isn't hard but he teaches like the information is intuitive. Still would recommend.
Knows finance like the back of his hand. Automatic A's to top 20% of quiz grades. Quizzes are true and false, so its mostly luck. Tests aren't bad, but he grades quickly and makes lots of mistakes. Doesn't appear to like teaching and is somewhat unapproachable.
Definitely a very knowledgeable guy with a ton of real-world experience. Is not afraid to talk about himself or ask random students even more random questions. Also not afraid to call you out and put you on the spot. Overall the class is not too hard if you read the textbook and practice the problems, but it is by no means a "gimmie" class.
Really fun professor. He likes to let class out early, he hands out 'Insider's notes' sheets that cover the important information from the chapters. If you are in the top 10% of the classes quiz grades, you get a free 90 on the following exam, if not, the quizzes don't hurt your grade.
He was one of my favorite teachers. I cant wait to take another class with him. I got to arm wrestle another student for bonus points on our test! This guy was fun!
Probably one of the funniest profs I have had. Class is VERY difficult but you get one page of notes on the tests so that's very helpful. 3 Tests and then the final. Do NOT miss a class but Kochman keeps it entertaining if you show. Would def. recommend this prof. if you aren't afraid of some work.
Easy to get A if you are good at Math.
Kind of hard to understand at time. Knows finance so well I think it's hard for him to teach it to people who have a limited understanding.
Got an A, kind of difficult to ask questoins to, however listen to what he says and write down the problems he does. Those questions will more than likely be on the test. He wants you to remember how he does them so on the test you solve them in the manner he did. That's how you get the right answer. Good teacher, just don't miss class
"LIKE" this guy. He is very entertaining. Test consist of what you cover in class. Cheat sheet for tests even the final. A quiz before each chapter to get you involved in class. Do NOT miss class cause every problem put on the board is vital to know or atleast have on cheat sheet. If you atleast try in this class you can easily get an A
Dr. Kochman's tests are very hard so you need to do well on the quizzes to exempt. He lets you exempt either the final or the mid-term if you do well enough on those quizzes. He is a great professor and loves what he is teaching. Definitely do not take finance with anyone else. Recommended.
Hard class. Dr. Kochman does not teach the material well but is always available if you need help. Weekly quizzes are based on assigned chapter, but tests are entirely based on problems. He offers flexible grading so you can put more emphasis on the final if you did not score well on the two tests (which are very hard, btw).
Hard subject and he teaches straight from the book. Tests are nothing like questions from the book because he simplifies them. Flexible grading though. You need to attend class to do well. He is entertaining so it makes a horrible subject somewhat bearable.
Great Prof. Quizzes that don't count towards your grade for each chapter but if you're in the top %, automatic 90 on the following exam. Wants his students to do well and will do anything he can for you if you show the slightest bit of interest. One of my favorite classes at KSU!
Great professor. He cuts all the "fluff" in the chapters and only teaches what's on the tests. His teaching style is different than what is the usual. 3-4 short quizzes for each test. MUST HAVE THE BOOK.Highly recommended
Doesn't explain every little thing when going over concepts, so you HAVE to pay attention. However, if you write everything down clearly, you're fine. Let's you use a cheat sheet on quizzes/tests. If you're in the top % on quizzes, you get an automatic 90 on the test. Quizzes are hard, though. BOOK IS MANDATORY. Must bring IN-CLASS.
You MUST go to class to do well or else you will be lost. Write down everything he says and you will do fine. He lets you use cheat sheets on every quiz and exam. His lectures can be somewhat confusing but just review on your own time. I hated the material but ended up with an A. I liked this professor because he helps and cares about students.
You must attend class everyday or you will be lost the material isn't the easiest thing to pick up on. You are given a quiz each week and have the opt. like the comment below to exempt the test. He's a really easy going professor and is willing to assist students b4 and after class. Attend class, review the class notes and ask a lot of ?'s!!!
Very good teacher. He gives quizzes once a week and you have to opportunity to exempt tests based on quiz results. He just knows so much about the subject he moves really fast.
This is not a light class and Kochman covers a lot of material quickly. Must pre-read prior to showing up to class and have made an attempt to answer end of chapter questions or you will be left in the dust. Ability to opt our of tests and get A's with good quiz scores. An A is very doable though. Just not easy.
Class is brutal. Fast paced and his explanations are often very confusing. Expects you to be able infer a lot of information. I'd only take him as a last resort.
97, 90, 90, 85. Those were my test grades for this semester. He allows you to bring a cheat sheet in for the quizzes and tests. If your combined quiz grades for each section are in the top 20% of the class then you are given an automatic 90 on the test. I did not devote a lot of time to this class and still aced it. I would take him again.
He is a nice professor but not very organized. I'm a finance major but feel like I didn't learn anything. He tries to make it easier by cheat sheets and letting you try for high man or low man on your quizzes. Only test grades count.
Pretty easy class, he lets you use a cheat sheet for all his tests, front and back. Each test is like 15-20 questions, and for his final you can use 3 cheat sheets, and that's also 15-20 questions. I got a 110 on his final, all you gotta know is how to use the cheat sheet to you advantage
Amazing teacher. I have learned so much from him took him for investments and 3100
Professor Kochman is a sweetheart. I adore him. His teaching style is simple but he is very fast. His tests are easy if you do not miss his test reviews. He gives you the best bets which are the questions that appear in the test. Moreover, he is extremely helpful. He has this automatic 90s to the top and the lowest scorer. Take him.
Great professor. Can be a bit fast when he works the problems on the board though. He gives you every opportunity to succeed. Explains the material very well. The questions on the tests will be one sentence. When you do the book problems, write the question out and make sure you can slim the info down to that as well.
Dr. Kochman is a good professor. He lets you bring in an entire sheet of paper with whatever you want to put on it to use for the test. He also gives out a quiz every chapter and the top 5 and lowest grade usually get an automatic A on the test. However if you do this for all 3 tests, your final counts 60% of your grade. No homework, go to class!
He's a nice guy but is a little strange, and is really not good at teaching. The weekly TrueFalse quizzes were just annoying and did not prepare us at all for the tests, which were very hard. Even with a cheat sheet allowed, the tests were brutal. He goes over the material very quickly and is hard to follow.
This is one of those classes where some students get it, and others simply do not. I had a particularly difficult time in this class. Prof. speeds through the material so fast my notes wheren't legible. The cheat sheets did not help me. For whatever reason, I couldn't get from point A to point B in this class. Infuriating. Proceed with caution.
The quality of his teaching is poor. You will spend all of your time teaching yourself. Not a lot of clarity will be given. His lectures are tremendously fast so, you'll be lucky if you leave with legible notes. Despite grade distribution most leave without a firm foundation. Doesn't care nor has the balls to address cristism beyond blaming. Retire
The reviews here are accurate. You will absolutely have to teach yourself. His lectures are disorganized; if you're actually able to follow them you better be a fast note taker. The only prof that allows the cheat sheet in the grad program--but id forego it to actually learn the subject. Tests are tricky but the cheat sheet will get you your A
Professor Kochman is a great professor overall. I enjoyed taking him, but you do have to teach yourself most of the concepts. Make sure you read the material before class and attempt the homework problems, so you don't feel lost. Before the test he gives best bets and those will appear on the test. Just come to class, put in work and get an A or B
He gives you a chance to not take his tests by getting good grades on your quizzes. This will screw you for the final. This dude is hard and i suggest taking a professor who clearly teaches finance step by step.
you get a cheat sheet for each test. Tests are cut and dry, know the formulas, practice the problems he tells you to in the book. Quizzes: DO NOT COUNT TOWARDS YOUR FINAL GRADE, they are counted like a competition in class, the lowest scorer and the top 20% get automatic A's on the next test. Quiz totals reset after each test. come to class!!!
3 exams and a final. You get to choose the weight of the final (60% or 40%). Gives and extra credit excel spreadsheet project for 10 points. The book is a must - works from it directly in class. Pre-lecture T/F quizzes for competition, top 20 % or the lowest score will get an automatic 90's on the exam to follow.
Dont take him.
Probably the most unique class I have ever taken. He implements a High-Man (Top 10%) and low man (lowest scorer) system for quizzes that are graded only to create standings for those categories. If you fall into one of the categories you get an automatic 90 on the exam. If you take automatic 90's for all exams, final counts 60%. Knows his stuff tho
Great professor! Pay attention during his lectures and you'll do fine. His test are all from examples in class, especially ones he makes up. He tells you half the test the class before and lets you have a cheat sheet. Highest and lowest quiz scorers get automatic 90 on the test. Only tests are graded and he gives you 1 extra credit excel project.
Even if you have the slightest math skills, you will pass the class. He looks at an equation, does an example with you, then makes you do a problem by yourself. For every single equation. His grading system favors the student. First two tests, I got over a 100.
Fantastic professor, funny guy and knows what it's like to be a college student. Show up to class, follow the problems, do the chapter problems it'll be fine. Tests he allows a formula sheet, front-back. Each test has optional bonus questions, do well enough on the quizzes he will give an automatic 90 on the tests. Final is cumulative.
Take him. Great guy, great professor, and great course. He spells it all out and if very approachable. Easy A if you are good at math.
3 tests, comprehensive final. Great professor. Provides extra credit opportunity. Cheat sheet for each test. Take him for Investments. Go to class and study the practice problems and you will be fine.
Tests are fair, the teacher is extremely flexible if you take the time to ask, all material is covered in class. Nice guy.
Class is pretty straight forward and hes really looking to help everyone pass, but he can get a little off topic when discussing his beloved Elbow Room. Overall, he is a funny guy and if you practice the problems and listen to what he says in the class then it should be relatively easy.
Dr. Kochman is a solid choice. You really don't need to read the book, but you need it for the practice problems. He covers everything that is going to be on an exam and gives you old tests as a study guide. As long as you make three 90's, you can exempt the final exam. Plus, there is an extra credit project that can count as a test grade.
Straight Forward class. 3 tests and a final... Keep the first 3 tests and use that to study for the final as he pulls questions off those for the final. 65-79 is considered a C. Do the excel project(not hard) and it automatically gets you a 90 on a test. Study the practice exams he gives you and you'll do good
He's a great Professor. He'll give you a formula sheet at the beginning of each chapter, that has the equations you'll need to know for that exam. He bases your grade on 4 total exams but only counts your 3 highest scores. First exam is the easiest; third exam is the hardest. You'll definitely need the textbook, but get the older edition.
3 tests & 1 final make up your grade. Everything you need for the test he goes over in class. You get 1 cheat sheet for each test. Extra credit assignment that will replace your lowest test grade. Go to class, take notes and you'll do fine.
3 tests and a final cheat sheet for all of them. Do the excel project and it automatically gets you a 90 on a test. Put all the formulas he gives you on the cheat sheet and you'll do fine. Class was sometimes disorganized and hard to follow.
3 tests and 1 final, but our last test and final were cancelled due to covid-19 so our last test was just 3 true/false quizzes which were harder than his tests, if that tells you how easy his tests are if you go to class. He gives extra credit as an easy excel project that replaces your lowest grade with a 90. Take him!
Course was comprised of 9 Quizzes with 20 T/F questions on each quiz. questions can be tricky, but the answers are all easily discovered in the text. Was able to take Quizzes at my own pace. i took them all the first week of class and finished with an A. He is very responsive to questions and grades the quizzes within an hour or so.
Class was a joke. 9 true/false quizzes and they make up 3 test grades total. You can work with others which is nice, but you never know what you miss on the quizzes. The 5 point extra credit curve (overall grade) is confusing because it isnt explained well, and its his own book he wrote. He was also brief on his email responses back.
I took him Spring '21 online. The entire class consists of 3 exams that are split into 3-20 question T/F chapter quizzes. There's no time limit for the quizzes, just 3 due dates for each exam. Each quiz would take me 1 hour or so. For the amount of work you do in this class, I absolutely loved it. Did I learn anything about Finance? Hardly.
I would not recommend taking him. The entire class is 3 tests, three chapters covered in each. He posts a powerpoint and a notes page and that's it. I reached out more than once asking for help and got nothing back. There is no way to practice beforehand, so you're kind of just hoping for the best. Easier grading scale, tests are open note.
This class was fully online. We had eight quizzes in total, all true or false questions which can get a little tricky but his notes and the book help out A LOT with the quizzes. He grades them fairly quickly. I don't exactly recommend this class if you REALLY want to learn, but it depends on how motivated you are.
This is for his post-covid in person classes. His teaching style is a bit outdated, dislikes technology in his classroom and will never upload anything to D2L. Allows a cheat sheet for exams and provides chapter handouts during class. Didn't come to class? He will ask you if you felt guilty. Don't have your textbook? He will ask you where it is.
Ladd seems like a nice guy and his class wasn't too hard. C starts at 65, you can have a cheat sheet on tests. He gets a bit confused about things sometimes, such as putting the wrong formula on his notes or going over a problem and solving it completely wrong. Doesn't use D2L at all, so keep track of your own grades and hold onto your syllabus.
He told us how to get the book for free and was honestly pretty cool but he teaches completely different to how he used to. Entire class is just three test grades and he doesn't always provide accurate information. He gives partial credit, drops your lowest test, and a 65 is a C so if you just need a C he might not be a bad choice. Otherwise avoid.
He is very straightforward about what is going to be in the exam. He would summarize what you need to know in handouts, and the "old test" is a very useful source to learn. Even though he does not use D2L at all, as long as you show up to classes frequently, you will 100% keep up with class and get an easy A.
We were only graded on a few tests which he allows a full cheat sheet on. He doesn't post anything online, so make sure you go to class to get the handouts that have every formula you will need along with very clear examples. These will be a lifesaver for the tests. He explains all the examples very well and encourages questions. I loved his class!
If you like classes that are spoon fed to you, this is it. I took him during a summer semester and he gave us many handouts that had exactly what the tests had. He allows a full paper cheat sheet front and back as well as using the FV & PV tables. He made this class so easy for a finance class. Only downside is he only does in person paper tests.
Easy class. Gave you the equation you just needed to take the time to understand. Cheat sheet front and back. Only reason I received a C was because of some personal reasons, nothing on the professor. He is funny and class and will answer any questions.
Prof. Kochman himself isn't a bad person. His teaching style just didn't sit well with me. He really only taught us formulas and how to plug stuff into them to get answers. I always left this class feeling like I learned nothing. He is also strictly pen and paper. He does not use d2l. Wouldn't recommend if you actually care about learning stuff.
This class is hard and top of that test are heavy. Only 3 test 33.3% and don't miss class if you take him. You will be lost next class. Don't fall behind and practice problems at home only helpfully thing is the note card at test.
Ignore the bad reviews, Prof Kochman is a sweet professor who genuinely wants us to do well in his class. He admits the material is hard so he allows us to write a cheat sheet for the test and explains things slowly. I would definitely take this class again.
this is a class you dont want to skip because he rarely goes back to talk about something if you werent there. he states what will be on the test and goes over past tests. Since you create your own cheat sheet its up to you on how well you do on tests. I got over 100 on every test because its just like the examples he does
there is no homework which sucks because its hard to retain lectures, he is all over the place and notes suck. there are three tests and optional final. but his tests are hard. i stopped showing up to class because i learned nothing and had to teach myself. he gives insider notes of whats on the test so get those and teach yourself
You are graded by the 3 highest test grades. If you like the average of the first 3 you don't have to take the final. I was worried at first, but he was a good teacher. He passed out handouts with formulas for each test and went over how to use the formulas. You get a sheet of paper front and back full of notes for the test. 1st test is harder
Hes hilarious. He is very old fashioned, you get lots of handouts. His lectures are hard to follow at first, but you get used to them. Get the same edition textbook as him. He says you dont need to, but I highly suggest it. No hw, only 3 tests & 1 final. You get 1 page of notes on all. I truly learned nothing in this course, but I did pass.
Decent guy but I feel like I didn't learn what I will need in future finance classes. Graded by 3/4 tests, you can drop a test & a 65 is a C but an A is NOT easy. The notes he gave out and his lectures seemed to drop in quality after the first test and after BOMBING the second test I had to teach myself everything afterwards. Take at your own risk
Graded on 3 tests and a final. He only takes the top 3 scores, so if you do well on the first 3 tests you don't have to take the final. He allows a full page cheat sheet for each test. He provides filled out notes with formulas and examples for each chapter. He didn't really explain the significance of the things we were calculating though.
The class was easier than I expected. He gives you a sheet with formulas & examples. If you go to class every day and follow along, you will be able to succeed. If you don't understand a problem, he's always willing to help. Only work I did outside of class was studying for tests; he provides a cheat sheet. The tests do get progressively harder.
I had to teach myself the whole course. Any questions I brought to him, it was like he didn't comprehend what I was asking or just wasn't able to break it down in a way I understood. Make your study guides, and get with a friend; if you have to ask him something, ask for the answer and work it backward yourself. DO NOT TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN.
Extremely easy class. The class was an hour and 15 minutes, and he always let us out within an hour or less. He provided a template cheat sheet for the tests, and I filled it out with the example problems we covered in class. The tests were almost identical to the examples, just with different numbers. He also gives partial credit on the tests.
His teaching style isn't for everyone, but I loved how interactive the class was. We worked through every problem together, and he provides a cheat sheet and practice test for exams. Attendance isn't required, but going makes a huge difference. Tests do get progressively harder tho.
Class is stupid easy but he's never seen a computer in his life, spends every class talking about sports betting, and changes dates of exams at random with no warning (cause he doesn't know how to email)
For other people complaining about sports betting, it's just something him and some classmates had in common at the beginning/end of class. He keeps his classroom engaged and uses class to teach and give examples throughout. He will tell you other ways he will ask questions on tests. Very flexible, old school, but on top. Allows cheat sheets!!
