assigns alot of hw. she teaches step by step. VERY HELPFUL!!!! she doesnt tolerate those who come to class and slack off. her grading is pretty hard. but if you study and do ALLL your homework, u'll get an A.
Teacher is a pro. Knows her stuff well. I took her class couple of years back. Just do your homework, attend class and do good on tests. Don't slack off and pay attention. Take good notes, she goes thru each subjects well & quick.
Professor Cong Huyen is a very young woman who knows her stuff. She is soo smart but she can't express her methods clearly enough. She will only do one example per section and you will be confused as HELL sometimes!!! Easy grader but tests are SUUUUUUUUUUPER hard. Lots of extra credit and lets you use notes sometimes. Doesnt explain material enough
She is a very helpful teacher. She seems so sweet. Her midterm is kind of hard though. But she is an easy grade. Do your best and you'll be find.
This subject is hard no matter what. But this teach is very nice and very helpfull. She is very generous when grading tests and also very fair. She wants everyone to do well. Do your homework and don't miss class and you will do well.
hard to understand, was not avilable for help-would not recommend her unless you are very good at math and need no assistance
I remember i was so nervous about this class. I'm extremely lazy and bad at math. I took 3 other finite classes but i bailed on the first week or so. For some reason, when i took it with Cong-huyen she made me want to learn. The material is not easy, but if you take a little time out to learn, guaranteed u will pass. Wonderful professor!!!!
easily to understand. if somebody takes her calculus class, i'm sure he/she will master calculus
Lots of extra credit offered! She gives lots of examples to help you understand. Her tests can be difficult IF you don't study and use her study guides well. This class moves at a fast pace, so work hard to keep up. The only thing I can complain about is that she usually doesn't go over the HW. Very well organized.
She is very good. She does not go over homework - that's your responsibility. Homework is done on the computer, on your own time. Goes over several examples in class and tries to make sure that you understand it. She is also patient and available for questions - that is why I signed up only for her class for the next level.
One of the best Math Teacher. I learned so much from her. She explains the concept well and clear. She also offers many extra credit that can help with the test. Do take her.
awesome teacher! should take her she helped me out a lot!
She gives tons of extra credit. Overall the class does bad she gives even more EC. She teaches well with plenty of different examples. 3 Exams, fair, what you learn in lecture. I recommend taking her for calculus!
this teacher is ok really straight forward on the class but can get annoyed if you dont understand the task. she gives alot of extra credit that helps out in the test!!but i would not take her again because she doesnt answer your questions when u need help! good luck!!!
She is awesome. She gave alot of extra credit to make up the test. try to do homework and u will easily get A
Like in any other class, you get the grade you deserve. She's helpful if you need extra help. I love calculus now! Thanks Ms. Cong-Huyen.
The class isnt that hard, she's nice. The homework is done online. She makes sure you know how to do the problems and everything that is going to be on the tests, and there are test makeups. Dont put off the homeork or it will add up and try to do all of it. Write down everything she writes on the board her notes are very helpful.
Her tests are extraordinarily difficult, the grading is questionable, there's far too much homework for the average science-based major, and she's extremely unapproachable. Would not recommend taking her class unless you can cope with all of the above.
She is a helpful teacher. shes not really strict on attendance or being late. she will always help you if you ask a question. and she and her tests are pretty straight forward. homework is based from coursecompass.com. taking her again for math 13
When I first saw her, I thought she was a student. She looks so young! Her quizzes are mainly for extra credit and extra help. Don't talk in her classes or she'll be very anal about it.
she is the easiness professor I ever seen.
She's a really good teacher who explains the material well, ask her as many questions as you want and she'll be more than happy to explain difficult concepts. She's also a really nice person outside of class and is easy to talk to.
Easy A class. Do your homework online. All of her quizzes are extra credit an she adds its to your test point boosting your grade by a Letter grade. If you want to pass the exams DO THE Homework, it does help you prepare for the text some of the question are similar to the exams. mrs. cong makes it for u to pass her class, she gives so many points
very good intructor, her explaination very clear, giving point every quiz after some pratice, so it easy to get quiz points. Her writing also very clear, unlike other intructor I've seen before. I recomment to all students who like to study math. choosing her won't be disappointed
Excellent teacher. Very good and very clear in explanation.
She is the best out there. She goes step by step for problems (adv. class). She gives tons of EC and her tests are relatively easy just follow her examples. If you miss a class you miss like 2 sections. I orginnaly took Frodyma at SJCC and he was the worst so the good reviews are true!
She is the best. I love her!!
A "feel good" really easy class. You learn little but your GPA goes up. Unfortunately, it does NOT prepareyou for the next level class (standards too low). The instructor takes forever to grade homeworks and exams.
The instructor is confused most of the time. She is not knowledgeable and cannot answer many of the questions of the class. However, exams are straightforward and really easy. You will get an A with little effort (memorize practice tests).
Literally the best math professor I have ever had. She explains things very well, keeps you interested, on track, and is very helpful. She is not an easy teacher as some of the comments say, she is just a very good teacher. You do have to do the homework and pay attention to do well. I usually hate math but she made it interesting and logical.
Ms Cong-Huyen is a very good calculus instructor. She is very strict and talks rather quickly. Her tests are fair since they are derived from the text problems. She is available to assist students in her office. Homework and attendance are important components to your overall grade. She is an excellent math instructor.
Taking this class the second time she has def. cleared up many confusions from the past professor, she's clear and very specific, she speaks really fast, practice test that will count to your exams so do that, the only thing is the online book is expensive and it's pretty annoying if you're not tech savy, good luck! I passed :)
You do not learn much but this is the class to get an A. Test straigth from the solution manual. Regrades for all midterms. HOmework from the solution manual. Easy class for sure. She is hard to understand.
She is great teacher I was a high school student taking it in the summer since I didn't pass it and she clarified a lot! She wants you to pass and does this by giving you countless opportunities by offering extra credit.
Easy teacher. She really does want you to learn and pass. She gives some extra credit. Although, her english isnt great. I still pretty much passed. should take her. I definitely reccommend herr!! When class startss she goes straaaight to lecture. There is like little quizs every week and a mid term an a final exam. Also little exams here and there
shes cool, lets you redo exams. decent clarity.
Calculus 2 is really hard!, Pros:test corrections, replace lowest exam w/ final, organized, helpful if u ask Cons: intimidating to approach, fast paced, hard final
She is really good professor I've took.
She is a very good professor! If you want to actually learn take her! Homework can be turned in by paper or mymathlab but I suggest you use mymathlab because it saves time and nobody likes using the book.
Hilarious, but the Class is tough. Pay attention, listen to her, take notes. If you skip class you miss a lot! Quizzes and homework give extra points for tests! Only 3 tests a semester total. If you ever need help, she's in her office after hours and help you for free. a few rules, everything else is allowed. Ok with talking, texting, stepping out
Everyday is a new lesson but her teaching is very understanding and clear. She gives out plenty of examples on the board & if you still don't get, she'll give you more examples and help you clarify the problem. Her homework is my MyMathLab, you need to buy it- $90. Very easy class. Shes nice and makes jokes sometimes. Her class goes by pretty fast.
It was very hard to understand her because of her heavy vietnamese accent. Math alone is hard on all levels, and when you have a professor that's always saying negative things such as "if you don't do this, you will fail!" or "you better listen up otherwise you'll die this chapter!" it's not motivating. Never taking her classes again!
very caring, very helpful. she always walk around the classroom and asks if you need help. she is funny and jokes around with the students. i had a pretty easy time in that class even though i am really bad in mathematics would take her again if she teaches the next level.
Didn't fail me when I probably should have. Thank you Based Laimi
Cal2 definitely very difficult but she makes things very clear, easy to understand with lots of examples including explanation. She gives problems to practice and goes around the class if you need help just ask. Exams are not hard but very long + short time so knowing the materials is a must (practice test very helpful). Tons of extra credits.
Professor Laimi Cong Huyen is a great teacher ! she show students step by step on each problem. In addition all of the homework are online, so that make it easier for the student to study. Now I have Professor Tin Quach for math 013 he is the worst teacher that I had known. As the result I feel that Professor deserve a good rating.
She's very organize and helpful. Her tests and quizzes are easy, too. She tries to be funny and cracks jokes from time to time, but sometimes they're so terrible they're actually funny. Would recommend and would take again!
What an incredible woman and teacher. I was actually intimidated by math before her intro to algebra class and she changed all of that. She really cares about your success, but she expects you to put in the effort. She will ensure that you understand the material, but you do need to do the homework. She gave me confidence in math. Quite hot too!
Keep up the good work professor. You're number 1 Lol
She is very clear and makes you understand everything. She does leave right away when class is over that's the only bad part to it. But overall I recommend her
Her lectures and notes are really clear & very helpful, she explains the material thoroughly & lets you use a page of notes for tests. She's a really great professor and answers any questions you may have, and she provides a lot of chances to get help on any work. Overall, if you pay attention, take notes, study or get help, you'll pass the class.
I would recommend professor Laimi to anyone! She is really nice and is willing to help you if you need it. Her lectures are VERY clear to understand. Her class is easy to pass as long as you pay attention & do your homework which is very similar to tests. Only 3 test throughout the semester plus the 2 part final. Her quizzes are extra credit.
Very clear and direct. Made a diffucukt subject easier to understand. She gives random quizzes then aND there and actually grades the homework you turn in. As long as you show up everyday and put effort into your work, you'll pass this class.
Very tough grader although she can teach, however her accent makes it hard. Lots and lots of homework...
She is organized and a fair grader. My only complaint is that she is not approachable. She will say things like "I am not going to explain this to you; you should already know this" and "If you don't know this you are going to fail". She's also very much a textual teacher than a visual one. If you don't mind these points then she is alright
She gives a lot of extra credits through quizzes and perfect attendance. She is tough, but it is also the promotion for you to study.
Short tempered, discouraging, and arrogant. She tends to lecture very fast and sometimes makes things unclear. Also, she would scream at you for not understanding a new concept. She would rarely leave comments on graded exams, but when she does, her remarks would be pretty harsh. Be aware of the difficult final!
Top notch math professor She is a great math professor, very well organized, clear grading criteria, her lectures have everything you need to know, and she also gives a load of extra credit! I passed her Calculus class (Calculus is not easy!) with above 100% and learned a ton. Only need the textbook for homework. Her classes fill up very quickly.
Laimi uses either the textbook or MyMathLab for homework, and has very heavy lectures. She goes a little fast because she expects students to stand on their own feet. However, she also cares immensely about those students that are doing poorly. Her tests are very comprehensive, I suggest you practice a LOT. Her class is for the math-inclined.
Professor Laimi is the best teacher in the Evergreen Valley College math department. She is knowledgeable, honest, kind, and smart.
This class is great! Although this class deals more with proofs than other math classes, she tries her best to make it clear for others to understand. Questions on tests and projects can fly over your head at times. Just remember to read the book, take notes, and pay attention to the lectures very carefully.
She is one of the best math teachers I have ever had. Ask questions in class and show up and you will easily pass. She gives her students a lot of chances to boost their grade.
She seemed like a nice teacher at first, however she has no control over her class people talk over her! It's frustrating how incredibly fast she goes over the work and rather than explaining, she mostly does all the work. When getting our tests back, she just marks it wrong and not pointing out where we made the mistake. She's unclear..
One of the best math professors at EVC! Lectures are very clear and easy to follow. She lays out her expectations and gives hints on what will be on the test, so pay attention! Tests are pretty hard but she does try to help you as best as she can. She also gives extra credit. Made a difficult subject easy to understand.
I think the world of Ms. Laimi. Homework is important for this class.
PLEASE do homework, the points are going to haunt you in the end if you slack off on it. Very good and easy professor, she gives full credit for just setting up problems. Exam content is easier than other calc 2 classes I've taken. If you're a textual learner and good with the calculator then you'll be fine, just don't slack off.
She's the best Calculus teacher at EVC in my opinion. She's very knowledgeable and knows how to turn hard concepts into something understandable. The best things are extra credits which she gives a lot through homework, participation and annual contest attendance. She replaces the lowest exam with the highest one. So you can't get bad grades.
If Math is your major and you have to learn it as a foundation for further learning, you should take her. Mrs. Cong Huyen is one of the best Math profs at EVC I've ever taken. Although her exams are tough, most of the questions are related to her lectures and study guides. If you did the homework well, you'd find it easy to get A's.
Teaching style is great, very organized, and genuinely wants students to succeed. 3 exams, one final, homework is 10%. Final replaces lowest test score and you can redo one exam for half points back. You definitely have to put in the effort because it is a hard class but she's great at teaching the subject! Exams based off notes/study guide/hw!!
i prefer u should choose she. she is good.
Great lectures. Reasonable hw and tests. Seems intimidating but actually is quite kind when approached one on one.
She is a very smart and knows her stuff but has a very demanding class. She assigns a lot of homework so be prepared and her exams are incredibly tough. She squeezes in about 10 question per exam in a span of 55 minutes, so you better come prepared.
Professor Cong-Huyen is amazing she takes her time for every student to understand the concept. If you dont miss a single day of her class she gives you 2% more on final grade and there is at least 2-3 pop quizzes every week it is OPTIONAL bc it is extra credit. Homework super easy and simple due every Sunday online, and easy exams and finals.
Professor Cong-Huyen was a really good professor for Calc III. Her lectures were really clear and she was willing to answer questions. I learned a lot in her class. Her exams aren't too hard, but are long (but the EC makes up for it). I loved coming to this class and talking to her during office hours! She's really kind and cares about students!
She is very knowledgeable about math. However, she goes way too fast during lectures. She would never let us finish writing down whats on the board. Class work is on the heavier side as homework is a lot. And tests are kinda tough if you are not very proficient in math. BEWARE.
I took this class based on good reviews, I personally like the professor as a person but not a teacher. She would say "if you dont get it by now then I don't know", her lectures go very fast so be prepared to take notes and show up everyday bc she gets mad if you dont show up and will call you out. Also wish she was understanding about covid .. :/
I would say she is one of the worst Math lecturers ever I seen. First off, she is very disorganized. She doesnt know how to grade the papers. During the pandemic, she gives us the roughest exams ever I seen. She has failed many students in the class. I will never ever take any math class with her.
She is confused and unclear all the time at class. She has accent problem as well. Its hard to get what she is saying most of the time. It's frustrating how incredibly fast she goes over the work and rather than explaining, she mostly does all the work. When getting our tests back, she just marks it wrong and not pointing out where we made the
Her exams are not that bad. She has some extra credit up to 1-2 percent of ur total grade. However, she is tough grader.
I do not agree with feedback here. I would say in her class half of students got failed, and the rest of the students got C. I would like to say be careful before choose her class.
Despite having 4 years of Math tutoring experience, I barely got an 'A' in her class. Those who want to get an A, should probably look for another teacher. I am not say it is impossible, but it will waste your time.
I learned nothing in this class; I couldn't really understand her. I'm sure she knows what she's doing, but she's one of those people that is not great at teaching it. Sorry. Would not take again. She wasn't terrible, but I would only take her class again if it was one of my last options.
She is a professor that makes math more complicated than it really is. You have to teach yourself out of the book because She does not explain anything well and when She does, you can't understand her because she mumbles all the time.. I would not recommend her class., its one of my biggest regrets.
Don't take his class. It was awful. I drop his class in the 2nd weeks of school.
What this lady does is not teaching. Transferring info from the textbook to notes in lecture, without explaining and clarifying, is not teaching, by any means. She knows the whole class is lost (we all told her), and just says "it will change". She should stop and clarify, not go on deluding herself into thinking she is teaching, and us learning.
Although she has good intentions for her students, she was not helpful at all. She speeds through a lot of the material without really explaining. If the class bombs the exams, she blames them for not studying enough. If you're good at math, I would recommend her. Otherwise this class will be extremely difficult and she won't be of much help.
DONT TAKE HER CLASS! She gives no help in homework problems, IF YOUR ASK PROBLEM ONE SHE WILL SAY I WILL DO TWO AND SAY I GIVE YOU HINT AND WILL NOT COMPLETE THE PROBLEM. hard w/ no help
She is unclear all the time at class. She has accent problem as well. Its hard to get what she is saying most of the time. It's frustrating how incredibly fast she goes over the work and rather than explaining, she mostly does all the work.
Some of her reviews are very harsh. Currently taking her for summer. She goes incredibly fast. Goes two ch sessions a day, lots of hw, and doesn't really stop for questions. She knows her stuff but just isn't forgiving despite there still being a pandemic. Doesn't go over hw and if she does its only a few questions. Not an easy class at all
I thought Professor Cong-Huyen was a pretty decent teacher; lectures can be hard to sit through because she just does example problems, but as long as you do the homework and the study guides you'll do fine. Tests are usually similar to the simple problems in homework.
Awful lecturer in Valley green college. Avoid her if you can. Her exams r way different than her notes. Only take her class if there is no other math lecturere avaiable in college.
I really regret having her class. She is not a qualified maths lecturer. Her exams were time consumable. her explanation of the lecture was awful.
Miss Laimi is a tough grader. Her questions are time consumable. She is more focusing on your arithmetic skills than calculus. She barely gives partial credits. It's hard to understand her lectures. I had to listen to videos to prepare myself for the exam.s
She lectures very quickly and does not give us time to process it. Take someone else at EVC or better yet take this class at another school. HW is manageable, but the tests were rough. The exams she gives us had multiple parts are were VERY time consuming for an hour and 20 min. Good luck if you do end up taking her.
A caring and conscientious instructor. Well prepared for every lecture, she allows regrades in test . Easy to pass the class and get a good grade if you do the work. expectations are crystal clear. one of the best instructors at EVC
Shes Nice
She is very nice. I dont know why a lot of students complain about her. She always give us many chances to upgrade the score if you have fallen behind. I loves her class.
I've taken Prof. Laimi from Calc 1 to Multivariable. Her lectures move quickly, but she frequently asks if there are any questions before moving on. Regardless of the professor, Calc isn't an easy subjectshe makes you work for your grade. Exam questions are similar to the HW problems. Only take her if you can seriously put forth time and effort.
Professor Laimi is the best math professor I have ever taken. She takes the time to thoroughly teach students and make sure students understand the course material. Although the exams are tough and count as a large portion of our grades, it is definitely doable! I was super scared of Calculus but after taking it with her I started to love math!
Responsible prof; heavy workload; fast-paced lecture; harsh grading criteria
I love her policies
great professor, great curriculum, and teaching style but she goes WAY TOO FAST. Especially in a topic like calculus, I think it's important to go at a slower pace to ensure understanding. Homework isn't terribly hard but it's quite a lot. On the bright side, it definitely prepares you for the tests and quizzes so they'll be easy.
Be careful with this Professor. Her English is not good. She reluctantly answers questions in both email and in-person. Lessons that she taught are different from the tests. Her grading are very tough. Our average score of the class are always below 70. I do not recommend this professor.
Took her bc she's the only who teaches 79 and totally regretted. I always aced all other Math courses with other profs. Her lectures were fast but there're barely any in-class exercise you can apply for homework or exam. She made you write down all the definition that were already in the textbook, which wasted so much time. Avoid her at all cost!
Good: she's an excellent prof, lots of hw, 4 exams, extra credit, and grading policy is the best! Neutral: explain lectures fast. Advice: she lets students know what they expect to see in the exam (prefer to study guide), should pay attention during class and SPEND TIME TO REVIEW NOTES, the more you practice and put effort, the better the results^^
Her work ethic surprised me, gets tests/quizzes back to students extremely quickly. Professor Laimi offers a lot of extra credit through (optional) in-class pop quizzes that are put towards exams. She has amazing grading policies where she replaces exam and homework scores, making it very possible for you to get the grade you want.
Ms Cong-Huyen is a wonderful instructor! Homework is required, but she takes the only top 10 best scores. Also, there are quizzes that count for extra credit on the 3 tests and final exam. Unlike other EVC instructors, she grades all assignments and homework quickly and accurately. IMHO she's the best math instructor I have had.
Her lectures are amazing, but she goes by very fast so make sure to take a rest from writing before entering her class. This class relies mostly on the exams. Exams are based on the lectures and are worth 60% of your grades. She doesn't give out practice exams but cheat sheets can only be one-sided. Pop quizzes are XC and optional.
The lady has an attitude. Her lectures are incredibly fast, and her subpar speaking can make concepts very difficult to understand.
I took her class over the summer, so it was fast-paced, which is to be expected. We had homework due every week with over 80 questions! But as a teacher, she is extremely kind. If you go to her after class with questions, she will help you understand. If you show you care, she will give opportunities to raise your grade.
Wonderful lecturer. Every problem was clearly solved step-by-step. She would even make sure that every student understood the underlying fundamentals of a solution before moving on. Assigns a good chunk of HW, but its mostly completion graded, and as long as you do most of it and prepare with her before each exam, you'll do awesome.
If you want to do well in this class, you must take notes. The tests are not tough as long as you review HWs and examples she does in class. She will give you a list of questions to prepare for the tests. Very recommend taking her class.
She is a great teacher. She cares about her students. Exams are not so heavy because it is the same as practice exams. Many extra credits. Take her class and you will pass easily.
I took Professor Laimi for both Calc 2 and 3, not easy classes, but they won't be easy anywhere you go, she offers so much extra credit opportunity and by this I mean she allows exam redo, worst exam sub, etc. If you pay attention, study and do homework you will do fine. Definitely recommend her if you need many math classes.
took math71 (calc 1) for 6week summer. Teaches fast but comprehensive lectures and notes. understanding. capable of hilarious deadpan humor Generous grading policy. Do the homework for practice and easy credit passing credit for turning it in. plenty extra credit opportunities. 3 tests 1 final. you can interrupt with a raised hand for clarification
She is a great lecturer and provides numerous examples so you can thoroughly understand. She's very generous with the grades as she gives out EC pop quizzes and slight curves. There is a lot of homework, but it's doable as it's graded on completion. If you listen to the lecture and complete the homework, you will definitely pass the class.
People who complain about this professor are the ones who didn't pay attention in class. She is the best professor that I have ever gotten. Just do the homework she assigns and you will ace the class easily. I feel like she is at the right level of easiness in terms of grading, anything easier than this will not help you learn the materials.
Hey. Sit in front of the class. As long as you pay attention she is a really good lecturer and actually knows her stuff. Doing the homework legitimately is enough practice to get it down. Just don't skip and grab the extra credit. My only gripe is she may not understand your questions fully. Just be patient.
Amazing prof for Calc 2 late trans. Sit in front of class and participate, especially if you know the answer to questions. She offers all the help necessary to get the best grades in class and extra credit too, 10 points / 500 points for perfect attendance as well. But Calc 2 is Calc 2, no easy way out of this course apart from studying.
I love Professor Laimi, if I could write more about her I would. Calc 3 is difficult, but she did a good job simplifying concepts in class and letting us know what to expect on exams. She offers ec for attending class on time and quizzes which add extra points to your midterm grades. If she taught more classes, I'd take all of them—she's that good!
Professor Cong-Huyen is one of the best math professors at EVC. Her notes are well-organized and structured. She gives a lot of extra credit, so take the quizzes. The exams are relatively easy besides the proofs, but they are typically ones you have seen before. Perfect attendance gives you extra points on the final. She is the best!
Lectures move quickly, so stay engaged. Exams are tough but fair - focus on homework and consider using Unstuck ai alongside other study tools to prepare. Overall, a rewarding class if you're willing to put in the work.
Straight forward expectations & class examples relate to exams! Extra credit is offered through quizzes as well.
Professor Laimi is the best, there is a lot of homework, topics are hard but its expected, everyone blames a hard class on professor's but I think it's all personal, if you do your homework, study and pay attention there is not reason you shouldn't pass. And she gives extra credit for exams. I also took her for calc 3, she's awesome.
TAKE THIS PROFESSOR IF YOU STRUGGLE WITH MATH. She really breaks things down so that they are easy to understand. Attendance is not mandatory but you get extra points if you attend all classes. You WILL pass this class if you pay attention and do the hw. Hw is worth 5 points and she only counts 10 hw assignments. Lots of extra credit opportunities
She is THE best professor for Calculus 3. The class is doable if you pay attention and put effort in homework. She also offers extra credit from quizzes which are open book and you can discuss with other students. The class will get little hard when we touch on Vector Calculus but apart from that, it is generally doable with enough effort
Her Calc 3 is very manageable, the amount of homework is fair and will absolutely prepare you for every single test. She dumbs most concepts down and visualizes them pretty well. My only problem was how rushed the Vector Calculus chapter felt towards the end. It's not an easy ride, but you will pass with flying colors given a smidgen of effort.
Took her for calc 2. Lectures are alright. She gets straight to the point so if you want proofs, she's not the prof to take. However in return she'll show you the most optimal way to tackle problems. 3 exams, 1 final. Replaces lowest exam grade with your final if its better. Gives a TON of extra credit. lenient with late homework. Def recommend.
