He does a great job of isolating and explaining the key concepts, without mixing all that stuff up with the long lists of details and anatomical structures we have to memorize.
He is really good! I waited a whole year to get him for Anatomy and Physiology because he is that awasome!
Prof. Sheldahl is intelligent about the subject he teaches but isn't arrogant. His class is challenging, but he makes it approachable and provides every necessary tool to succeed.
Great instructor - really cares about the success of his students. Always willing to help, and is avail for office hours. Makes a difficult subject interesting and understandable. Very intelligent and has lots of experience. If you're a visual learner, you'll enjoy and succeed in his class.
Prof Sheldahl is really interested in students learning the material. He uses Power Point presentations which are available before class. It is a very hard subject but he makes himself available with generous office hours. Great teacher.
Best teacher ever.If you attend class listen to lectures and study the exams are easy. Laird makes the class easy and funny to learn. Very fair in his grading. Attendance is not mandatory but I recommend it.
He is the best professor for Anatomy hands down. I took it from another teacher at mt hood and failed because she knew nothing. He makes a hard subject easy to understand, especially with his powerpoints and jokes. If you go to the lectures you will have no problem passing the class, and he makes himself available if you need help.
This man is amazing! I would take any course he teaches. He is easy to follow, helpful, and knowledgeable but not afraid to tell you he doesn't know!! If you have to take A&P this is the man to take it with!!
Professor Sheldahl is excellent. He makes the physiology portion of A&P easy to understand and is very clear about what he would like you to know for tests. He was able to hold my attention through 3 hour blocks with ease (it helps that he's a hottie, but I digress). Bottom line, great teacher!
Took all three Anatomy classes with him, hands down best instructor at MHCC. If you're going to take anatomy, this is your man!
I took this class in the summer for eight weeks. It as hard but I got an A, and the teacher was great! I'm taking 232 & 233 with him.
Great teacher! He simplifies everything making it easier to understand. It was a very hard class but he teaches really great so it helps.
He is really nice and explains the material very clearly. Difficult class but manageable. I highly reccomend taking him if you want a good professor. Probably the best one I have had.
Had this professor for two courses, a favorite of all the students; anyone taking class with Sheldahl is very lucky and headed for success. After yearsin school, this teacher made me realize for the first time what a difference a teacher can make. He is creative, helpful, interesting, reasonable, while still challenging! A+, Don't pass him up.
Absolutely the best instructor I have ever had the opportunity to take a class with. I will really miss learning from him when I am done with Anatomy.
All of the great comments say it all.. Even if you have to take online, paying out of pocket is worth every penny. He is a gem! So helpful and promptly answers ALL and ANY questions! Makes you want to listen closely to lectures, he throws little monotoned jokes that relate to topic in!
I felt that the professor really related to the students well.I also appreciated that if we had significant personal problems that interfered with a paper/homework/exam deadline Professor demonstrated that he cared and he was always willing to work with us to allow us the time that we needed.
Amazing professor! Takes A&P and make it managable. He records lectures and posts to website with powerpoints (study these and the homework for a good grade). Lab tests were especially difficult but not impossible. Offers extra credit which can be added to your lecture exams. He doesnt use the text.I highly recommend taking A&P from this professor!
Professor Sheldahl will bend over backwards to help his students. Going into his class I had no interest whatsoever (since I had taken this class online with a different instructor the term before and failed due to a lot going on that term.) Professor Sheldahl helped me so much when it came to homework and studying. Highly recommend him!!!
Amazing! Just a heads up that 232 so far is definitely harder than 231. Be prepaired to study more. A lot more.
Great teacher!Extremely clear about what exams will be like. Interesting to listen to. Make sure you take anatomy with him! I am signing up for his 232 class.
Professor Sheldahl wants his students to succeed in a difficult class and bends over backwards to make himself available to ensure this. I really enjoyed his class, and I'm looking forward to another term.
Laird is such a great teacher. He is funny, loves what he does, and strives to make the subject interesting and clear for his students. His tests are challenging but very fair, he gave us a page of notes per chapter, so I expected a difficult exam. Also, he tests exactly what is in his lecture, no surprises. I highly recommend laird, you will enjoy him!!
Agree w/ comments. His class was organized, he was clear about expectations. He gave extra credit assignments. He did everything in his power to help you succeed. He was responsive and would get back to you within the day. I liked that he gave us almost a week off assignments in order to prepare for exams.
This instructor is fabulous! I am in his 2nd term of A & P and I love his teaching style, his helpfulness and the clear satisfaction he gets out of teaching this subject and wanting his class to succeed. I can't say how lucky I am to have taken this subject from him. He is so responsive and clearly enjoys teaching.
Laird is a great teacher. He knows what he is talking about, and when he doesn't know, he tells you. I really like his teaching style and how helpful he is to his students. Definitely a great Anatomy Teacher!!!
Excellent ! Very clear on what he is looking for. Wish I could have him teach all of my classes. Love love his teaching style! Do your homework listen to his lecture and you will get an A and learn a lot.
Professor Sheldahl is absolutely amazing. The course itself is difficult and extremely abundant in material covered. I took the entire series online with him, and felt confident that I retained the information covered. I would recommend him to anyone!
Professor Sheldahl is an excellent teacher. He makes the challenging material easier and clearly tells you what you need to know for the exams. I'm taking the second of three a&p classes and so far he has been nothing but helpful! I highly recommend taking his course!
Loved Lairds teaching style and organization. I was initially nervous to take this course but he made the material easy to understand and relatable. He was a fantastic teacher, the best i have had at MHCC.
A&P 231 & 232 - He teaches relevant material and less useless information. He is very organized and helpful with very clear lecture presentations. You can even re-watch online. There is some extra credit to be earned. He is also very flexible if you get sick, have any family emergencies, etc. Most definitely recommend.
I took this course last year. I often think back to A&P and how fortunate I was to be able to take it with Laird. I am applying to a nursing program right now and Laird has provided me with the information and skills I need. I strongly recommend him! He has been my favorite instructor up to date. He is great and truly cares about his students!
Laird is by far the best professor I have ever had. The work is challenging, as it should be, but he goes above and beyond to make it easy to understand and he makes it interesting. He is always there to offer additional help if needed. I am so fortunate to have had Laird as an instructor. He cares about his students. Take his classes!
You can not go wrong with Professor Sheldahl. He gives students really creative study guides and makes creative powerpoints. He takes hard concepts and breaks them down to make it easy to understand. I am not bragging, but I have a 98% in the class and one week left for this class. He tells you what you need to study for the exams. Really helpful.
The most incredible instructor I have had thus far. He does everything to make you succeed in his class. Homeworks allow 2 attempts with some questions reused on exams; you can take practice exam with questions reused on exams, and you can submit an extra credit to boost your exam score. If you don't get a good grade here you won't anywhere else.
Sheldahl helped so much if you truly had an intelligent question. He rewarded for effort and participation. Overall AWESOME!!
Excellent instructor, good sense of humor, very articulate, very helpful. You will work hard in this class for your grade, but he will work hard to give you as much help as you need to succeed. Hard class, great instructor.
Great teacher! I am taking him for BI232 again. His answers are crystal clear. If your in doubt don't hesitate to ask. He loves when you ask questions. If he sees you put in the effort and all the extra credit he might boost your grade up. Decent grader, this is a hard class. Don't miss any lectures. ALWAYS take notes. Loved his class
I would like if Laird Sheldahl could teach nutrition! That would be such a fun class with him. Overall, Mr. Sheldahl is hands down the best teacher Iv had!!
Professor Sheldahl is the best instructor you could ask for in a difficult sequence like A & P. He gives you the opportunity to work for your grade, and not have it just based on tests. He gives you everything that you need and is very helpful. Exams require you to know a lot, but he gives you everything you need to do well.
The best teacher I have had in a long time. Super organized and very helpful. Wants you to succeed. Will take the rest of the sequence from him!
He is a great guy. I took him for Bi232 in Summer Term(only 8 weeks) and got an A in his class. I am currently taking Bi233 with him and I already know I will get an A. He has great powerpoint presentations. He answers questions clearly and also provides detailed study guides. He even has recorded lecture videos. Yes, he is that nice!
I took BI232 with him and I would definitely recommend taking your A&P classes with Sheldahl. If you put in the effort and respect him & the class, then you'll earn his respect & he'll put his time and effort into you. He doesn't overload you with work but gives you the resources to go above and beyond. I will be taking BI233 with him, no doubt.
I have taken the 231, 232 and 233 series once before. I received a B in 231 and 232 the first time. I retook the 231 with Mr. Sheldahl. I got an A with half the work. He is very easy and basically tells you what is on the exam before the test. I got my A, but I don't think I know as much as when I took the class from someone else. Easy A.
I have taken bi 231 through laird. He is not willing to help. Our lab consisted of him giving us a packet and sending us on our way. He is constantly making inappropriate jokes during class and is unclear of what he will be testing on. I spent the majority of my time in the tutoring center so I could get the appropriate help I needed
He is a great teacher. Wants you to succeed.
Laird to me is a good instructor, on the other hand some of the jokes he makes are very inappropriate and he doesn't really let you know what will be on the exams. The way he has it set up didn't fit my work schedule and as much as I tried, I didn't do so well. Some of the material is confusing and you never know what can pop up on an exam.
I took the BI 231-233 series at MHCC & got a low B in Mrs. Mcneal's class. After reading on here about how easy Laird grades, I decided to take his class so I could apply to the Nursing programs with a better grade. His lectures covered less material and exams are easy if you can figure them out. Not sure I learned anything from him but got my A
Great teacher! He explains everything very well, but the tests are very hard. Study around 4 days prior to tests if you're aiming for an A!
By far the best Anatomy professor I have had. I've had professors at Oregon State, Clackamas Community College, and now at MHCC. He actually cares about you doing well and is very accommodating. Exams are based on study guides and homework. Super straight forward. Provides you with every tool possible to do well. If you work hard you get the grade.
This professor doesn't give feedback and if you don't understand something he will look down on you. He really makes you work for it because he makes you not want to ask questions. He definitely favors students over others based on their success in the class. He lost several of my assignments and claimed I never turned them in.
He is the bad teacher who does not care about students at all. He is so unorganized and made a lot of unappropriated jokes. Do not take him if you want to get a good grade.
No quizzes, just lab & lecture exams, if you don't do good on the exams you wont pass his class. Never know whats on his exams, his study guide does not help. He can be rude, if you ask him a question. He expects you to just get your question answer from the syllabus. I don't plan to take him for the next anatomy.
Drop his class, he is not good at responding to emails. Makes inappropriate jokes. Lectures heavy and during lab he gives you lab packets to work on and send you on your way to figure everything out on your own. Study guide is not helpful. Don't get me wrong it's a hard class, & you must put in the work. Just did not like him & teaching style.
Great teacher. Gives you every possible chance to do good in his class. Those who dont do well in his class are the same people who make excuses and dont put in the time. You can guarantee yourself a B if you make an effort and ask him questions.
He's a good teacher but can be tough if you don't try. He provides great information and resources to benefit you. Although, he can make you feel inferior and forget to put in assignments affecting your overall grade. In the end, if you're willing to put in some work and if he likes you then this class should be easy.
I took Professor Sheldahl for BI231-233, and found him to be very consistent. He explains tough concepts very well, and provides a lot of materials to use outside of class. He sets clear expectations and learning objectives.
Took him 231-233. He's awesome when it comes to lecture, he's very passionate, straight forward, and has a youtube channel of his lectures that have saved my life for exams. Yeah he may make inappropriate jokes, but thats how I remember things he's teaching. I just wish he would take time to go over lab models, instead you're kind of on your own.
He's an alright professor but is to picky sometimes with certain written exam questions answers.
Sheldahl was great! I have taken Anatomy before with a different prof. and it was horrible. Sheldahl is fair with his grading and lets you know exactly how he will be giving the grades. If you put in the effort, show up to class and ask questions then you can get an A. He offers extra credit essays that are fairly easy and help with your grade.
The homework questions are very similar to what is tested on so you have a guide of what to study. Class lectures recorded online have illustrations and animations that are so beneficial for a visual person like myself. He has a sense of humor and his voice is super chill. 10/10
Easy homework for lab and tougher for lecture. Does not accpet late hw. Do not need a book unless you want it. Has lab reference on mhcc portal to do the lab hw but i think the book is useful for lecture hw. IMPORTANT to do good on exams otherwise you will not pass the class. Has 3 lab exams and 2 lecture and a final. No quizzes.
Success in this class depends on completing assignments on time, performing well on tests, and seeking help if topics are confusing. I took his class for my prerequisites for RN school and I'm proud to say I'm an RN today because of the foundation this class set forth. He treats his students like professionals meaning he doesn't hold your hand.
I LOVED his classes. Great lectures, very structured. Always willing to help out and help the learning process. Study guides reflected his exams well. Homework helped a lot. I will 100% always recommend this teacher. One of my all time favorites.
This teacher is disrespectful to students. His is also very disorganized, study guides are random blobs he must have put together the night before. He talks about his frequent use of alcohol and makes several inappropriate jokes. Structures in lecture includes his drawings. I would highly recommend taking this course with the other A&P teacher.
A&P is a hard subject. I was reading through the reviews and it sounds like people are mad that they didn't study hard enough. The study guides and homework are about 99.5% of what is on the exams. If you don't pass and don't get an A it is your fault. The subject is hard, seek help if you don't understand something. He is more than willing to help
He does provide extra credit essays that are helpful if your grade is teetering closely to a higher percentage - raising it a letter. Only + I can add to this rating. You learn lab completely on your own & the physiology part of the class is heavy. Inappropriate with jokes/innuendos - would be unacceptable for students/co-workers in real world.
Cool guy, good teacher. Super smart
During lectures Sheldahl provides information that isn't in the powerpoint slides to make the info more accessible. Lectures & chapter summaries are on youtube so you can rewatch or catch material you may have missed. Before every exam he holds a review session that is very useful. Labs are independent work times but he's there to answer questions.
I have not taken a class with a better professor. Even when the last place I wanted to be was sitting through a lecture, I still left class feeling excited about what I learned. He keeps class interesting and fun. There is a lot of homework and labs are basically on your schedule, but its a&p. I would take this series again!
Study. That is all I can tell you really. Prepare to learn more than you need to. I have taken two different AP teachers and his is the only class I have received a mediocre grade on. My assignments have been on time. A's and B's. His grading is INCONSISTENT. He will give you full points on a practice exam, but on the HW (same answer) NO POINTS. :
Great teacher who really works with the students on their level to help them learn the material but also helps maintain that knowledge
Very tough grader, homework and material load for this class is very heavy. Tests and midterms make up 80% of grade. Took him online and he didnt have learning outline labeled clearly, some weeks have 1 chapter or sometimes 3 chapters due in one week. He's probably a nice guy, but this class is horrible, coming from someone who has a 3.9 GPA...
He is my absolute favorite A&P teacher. This is not an easy subject to learn. Laird makes it fun, he is very helpful. Do your due diligence as a student and you will have no trouble getting an A in his class. I will miss taking his courses. He is also very helpful when it comes to apply for nursing school!
Very, very tough grader. No partial points for answers that maybe had ONE misspelled word. Wouldn't ever take this class with him again, EVER.
Hard at first, easier to get a hold of later.
I overall loved my first class with him! It was my first semester at MHCC and I was nervous to start with a class that didnt have good reviews. I LOVED this class, his lectures are long but he makes A&P so clear and understanding! He also gives good feedback on tests/ assignments. You can also redo your homework twice if you miss some questions.
I have some medical background already so A&P1&2 wasn't new for me. Everything has been online for both classes. As long as you do your HW and take heavy notes on the lectures you will do just fine on the hw and exams! His lectures make everything clear!
He's a solid choice if you are looking to take A&P! He posts his lectures on youtube, which I love! He also gave plenty of extra credit opportunities. Just make sure to take good notes and practice a little everyday and you'll do great, I promise!!
Honestly, this class was great & he was a good teacher. I will say that the labs/homework are super time consuming, but he lets you do them twice. His lectures are very clear and straightforward. If you do the work, you should be fine. I will be taking the entire A&P series with him & can't wait! There are no quizzes, & 3 extra credit assignments.
Sign up with someone else if you can. Instead of explaining the subject clearly from the beginning , he will explain it 3 different ways 3 different times, and then require you to answer a sequential question. I literally copied and pasted some words from his lab diagram and was marked wrong for spelling. Constantly confused, along with the tutors
Great professor for anatomy! Definitely pay attention to lectures (they are fun but very long and thorough) and do the practice tests. Sheldahl grades really quickly, allows you two attempts for assignments (before due date), and will fix any errors when it comes to spelling for fill-in-the-blank answers. Do NOT try and do things last minute.
I think he tries to make the class fun but i could not understand any of his lectures. The slides were too confusing. He states that he spends so much time doing the animations for the powerpoints and that we should really learn them and i honestly just googled what we were learning elsewhere. It took way too much effort and time for me to get a B.
Amazing teacher very flexible and knowledgeable. All things needed to know is in the leactures and very understanding.
Not easy but glad I took w/ P. Sheldahl. Expectations were clear and consistent. All homework/labs had an options of taking them a second time for a better grade. I asked him every week for a zoom office hours to go over my homework or questions and he was always available and willing to meet. I appreciated his willingness to help me learn.
This professor was the worst for the class I took, I had problems starting and falsely accusing me of taking the information on the internet and copying and pasting it and made my life very difficult and making me not like A&P by a ton. I would not recommend this professor for any class.
I really enjoyed taking his class. He is very easy to talk to about questions and is always willing to help. He also doesn't treat you like this is the only course you're taking. He also provides everything you'll need for the class in black board. Would highly recommend him
I ending up dropping this class bc I'd rather have a W on my transcript than a fail. Lectures and HW did not make the most sense. He seems very burned out and does not hide it. Compares in-person class to online (not a great online teacher). Terrible spelling and typos EVERYWHERE. If taking this class, print everything out & get a tutor.
Lectures are long, but what lectures aren't? Study the essay questions heavily. Other than that, this is a great class.
Very tough grader. Other anatomy classes such as 231/232 I got A. He seems unmotivated as a teacher. His tests are challenging and his only extra credit options are essays. I feel the essays do not benefit your grade and he should offer a different extra credit option.Takes long to grade. lecture videos are lengthy and he strays off subject.
You should only take A&P with Sheldahl. You should anticipate a lot of memorization in A&P regardless of the instructor. Sheldahl gives great feedback, plenty of time in class for his help and open book exams. if you don't pass you didn't try. Extra credit opportunities with each exam too. 2 attempts on hw too.
Dr. Sheldahl assigns lots of homework but has an EXTREMELY clear grading criteria. Don't take his class unless you plan on trying(like all A&P classes). There is a lot of lab time to ask questions and do homework. Attendance isn't required. You can pass if you put in some effort.
Laird was great. Lectures are optional but everything is online in blackboard like an online class which is nice. Exams are open book non proctered and you get two attempts on homework. If you try, you will suceed! Definitly take Laird.
he will give you a 0 on questions with no feedback. if he does give you feedback, it's a link to the lecture part you just watched. i would watch the lecture on the specific subject the question pertained to, listen to what laird had to say, and re write it in my own words, showing that i understood and could relay what he had to say. 0/5?
