Dr. Gollapudi is very sincere and approachable but may not seem like it at first. The best advice is to study off of the handouts she gives and make sure to study the figures/diagrams from the book. She only offer a couple of Q's xtra credit-VERY little
Hard teacher, memorize everything you can.
Hard but if you try, you can at least get a B
Pr. Gollapudi is does expect a lot of her students, must memmorize. Without studying i got abot 75% on my tests. If you truly want knowledge--take her, not for a blow-off though!
Very nice...however,she acts as if her class is the only class you are taking. The work load is awful for someone who is already taking a full load of classes. The class is very intimidating.

Awesome teacher! She explains everything well and makes the class fun. Tests are not that bad if you study you should have no trouble gettting an A.
She is a wonderful teacher. I am acually taking her now. Its not an easy class but if you want to learn biology she is a very clear and great professor. I always leave the class learning a lot of new material.
gives you the facts, you learn them, and you get tested on them. a straightforward class if you take at least 30min a night to study the chapter out of the textbook. i unfortunately only realized this right before the final exam (which i aced) but that only boosted me to a final grade of D.
Micro was great! Students who studied did well, those who didn't barely got by, failed, or dropped. Final lab test was fun--ID'ing microbes. Easy if you paid attention and did homework throughout the semester. She was very helpful and understanding of personal problems that interfered with class if you let her know ahead of time.
you never get out of lab on time. don't take a class right after. if you do take a class right after you will always be late to it.
Despite all past good reviews, this semester she did not do well. Lecture was good, testing style hard to predict. Lab was not explained thoroughly, procedures demonstrated poorly -most of the time people were confused as what to do. Teaching style was demeaning & offensive. Maybe she's got personal issues…
I totally agree with the last person. Lakshmi did not do well this semester AT ALL!!!! She was pretty much useless if you had difficulty with anything and she never returned emails. She was very demeaning when speaking at times. This was my worst Prof. at CLC. I'm just glad its over.
hard , unesles, hard
This teacher is really hard. Her test are like finals and if you miss a day you would probably do bad either in a regular test or final i dont recommened this teacher ovarall extremely hard!!!
Rushed through material and didnt explain plainly enough
If you do bad on a couple of tests there is pretty much no way to fix it you fall behind and you are screwed! She knows her stuff but can be a stickler.
I guess I'm one of the lazier students in the class who's failing. I'm taking her now, shes a great teacher if you are respectful and you study the material. You will start to complain if you choose to not study. It is hard but nonetheless a good teacher.
She is was very good at lecturing and every thing that was going to be on the exam she would tell you. I had her for Micrbiology and that class in general is hard if you are a slacker pay attention and study and you should pass. The people who fail and complain about her are the ones who dont't show up or pay attention
Dr. Gollapudi made difficult concepts easy to understand. Very professional and student-oriented. One needs to be in class and review the material from the handouts and text. Labs were comprehensive and tied in with the lectures. At times the lecture ran over into the lab period. This made it difficult to properly complete the lab. Overall excellen
She's tough, but she's a great teacher.
She's tough but she's a great teacher, better than the other bio teacher I had. This class has tough concepts and requires A LOT of work, o if you dont have the time, dont take it. But she's very helpful,& uses power points, animations, drawings, and models to help illustrate concepts. You MUST study& read the chapters in order to get a good grade.
Can be rude, not helpful
She is a really tough teacher. Requires a lot of reading out of the textbook, and expects you to know the material prior to calss. A really hard grader also. Her labs are difficult to understand and always last the entire class period. Also watch out for her tests, they are guarunteed to rock you.
Microbiology teachers get a bad rap because this is a tough class to teach. She gives good powerpoints. If your serious about college I recommend her because she's very detailed and you actually learn the material!Labs aren't that bad and she is an easy grader. Test are kinda hard, but if you study you will do fine.
Took her for Bio, and switched to new instructor in 2 weeks. Very hard, not helpful, would never recommend her. Did well in my new class. Biology is not that hard of a subject, her expectations are just too high!
I would not recommend she is not clear on what is needed of you also she expects you to know information before class starts and when you do not know she becomes very angry she never really answers any questions so you are always confused she is very unrelalistic on knowledge we are students not microbiologists This is a hard class with a bad teach
She sets you up to fail. You can read and study for hours but there are trick questions. No understanding that students have lives. Attendance mandatory. A research paper with printed sources that takes four hours for 20points. Typed up lab report for 5 points...
Excellent class. Superior instructor. You need to read the material before class and be willing to study really hard. She is extremely fair and gives extra credit on her tests. Tests a little tricky because there are reasoning questions. You definitely need to know the material. Only negative is she is a little slow to grade.
She is great and very tough at the same time. You`ll learn a LOT. I would suggest taking less classes if you choose to have BIO with Pr. Gollapudi. The class is very intense, the exams have some tricky questions. Without studying you`ll get no more then 80%. This class is a lot of work: 4 exams, 9 quizes, labs, 2-3 assignments, lab exam.Good luck!
Ok so a lot of people have negative comments. Don't mind them. Lakshmi is an amazing teacher. Class is interesting. She's strict, but she wants you to learn and understand what's being taught. Laziness isn't going to cut it. You have to study and pay attention. If you do the work then you're fine. Easily the best teacher I've taken here at CLC!
She means well but can come off harsh. I would say that she expects you to be ready to learn when you get into her class. I personally liked her, but I've heard far more negatives. The hardest part of the class was the labs and their reports. Her tests can also be scary; for our final we had to take a comprehensive and a regular chapter test.
Awesome teacher, Makes lecture incredibly interesting if you like biology at all. Always relates topics to real world situations/experience
Teacher appeared very disorganized. Did not clarify due dates for assignments, tests, or lab reports. Lectures were very fast-paced. Teacher got angry when students did not know the answers to her questions. Instead of explaining the material that was confusing to some, students were told to simply know the answer. Not a good teacher.
Lakshmi is a very smart woman. Her PP notes and study guides are extremely helpful. She is strict and I can see how she may offend some ppl, but I wouldn't take it personally because she's just trying to help YOU out. Tests aren't super easy but if you study you will do fine. Lab quizzes were fairly easy. She knows what she's talking about.
Ive gotten A's in Physics, Chemistry, and Calculus. Cant get higher than a 83% in her class and BioChem is my major. She is a very knowledgeable professor. However, she doesnt make assignments clear. She stacks exams and assignments and doesn't always make them clear. Her exam averages are middle C's. She doesnt seem to care if students pass/fail
Micro's a really tough class--especially if you don't like the subject matter. Lakshmi is personally pleasant, but rather condescending as an educator. Knowledgeable, but I've found a couple of her points incorrect and she's not willing to look into the matter further. Lots of drops from our class.
Absolutely loved her. She's a genius and gives amazing lectures, relates her subjects to real life matters to make them interesting for you. Not ecstatic if you answer a question wrong, but nevertheless she doesn't hesitate to explain further to you. Great teacher i highly recommend, but you must keep on top of things, I learned so much!!!
Strict, but for a reason. She explains labs and lectures thoroughly. Gives great information, you won't regret taking this class!! I could not ask for a better teacher!
Unhelpful, and picked her favorites. If you weren't one of her favorites, expect lower than a C.
Tests are hard. The class averages are low Cs with only a few people getting A's. Very hard grader. Not clear on assignments. The book is useless for her class. Take an easier teacher, its hard to get a an A in this class.
She's a tough teacher but I learned a lot from this class. You definitely need to study but if you give time towards this class you will be fine.
If you need to get an A, try a different teacher. but very possible to get B with lots of studying. She does try to relate to certain health care professionals that she knows are in class (I was in the nursing program)
Lakshmi was VERY un-helpful when it came to asking her questions about anything. She was extremely rude to people she didn't like, and her exams were impossible. I left the class everyday thinking "ok now what do I have to do for homework?!" because she was very unclear. Take a different teacher if you can!!!!!
Nightmare of a class but finally passed it! She was sorta helpful, did get mad if you didn't know questions that she had recently asked, much better than my 1st Bio teacher, but gave A LOT more work than necessary yet it's for your own good, I only recommend her if your field is Bio or Med if not, prepare to lose your hair! Taking her for Microbio
She is definitely condescending at first, but if you are following her lectures, reading the textbook, and doing the online assignments, it shouldn't be difficult to obtain a B or even an A. I got a C only because I didn't work hard and study enough. I could have done better.
Do not take this teacher! She is insane, her tests are impossible. No one in the class even knows where she gets the questions. She uses all the lab time to lecture because she rambles so much she can never get through all the material. THEN she expects you to finish 3 labs in the last hour of class while rushing you and not explaining anything
Lakshmi is a great professor but she's definitely not approachable. Great lectures gives real life examples to the material. If you don't know the answer to her questions don't even bother guessing because she'll think you're stupid if you give the wrong answer. Study hard, read the chapters, take notes, complete assignments and you'll be fine.
DO NOT take this teacher, if you have the chance, change to a different professor! Bio is a hard class, but she makes it harder. Her lectures are so long that you will get overwhelmed. Her tests are IMPOSSIBLE. She will make you look stupid so don't say anything dumb. She is also hard to understand and she is a VERY tough grader. Back out now.
Rude as heck! Awful professor! Would never recommend unless you want to do badly. Thank goodness I had a strong biology background or I would have gotten a C or F. See that drop button???? Click it!!!!!!
I didn't think I would feel so discouraged about my program before I took this class. You're pretty much teaching yourself here.
I didn't feel she helped me when i approach her for help, all she said is you have to study. does not understand we all have a life besides school and don't care if you have a family situation or emergency. she makes you feel stupid when you ask questions a about something you don't understand. i would not take her again.
I had read nightmares about taking this class. Lakshmi is a very good teacher. You definitely are expected to study and be there for all classes. As it is in the real world. Lectures are long, but I learned a lot of useful information. Definitely possible to get an A if you put in the work. A lot of information, but very interesting.
Lakshmi is question orientated professor. She encourages and responds extremely well to students that ask questions, explanations, or clarifications. It completely changes her attitude towards you. That being said, she was never rude to students that didn't ask questions. She does not like cell phones being used in class because it's a distraction.
She is a very tough grader and tends to demean her students. She also piles on homework to the point that learning is not fun anymore. She does not allow any technology in her class not even if it helps you learn the material. Some people learn from her stringent methods but I am not one of them and I tend to be in the majority.
Very difficult grader! Study Study Study for tests and lab quizzes! Although she is tough, she is a great teacher, and I learned so much. She also offers some extra credit.
DO NOT THINK ABOUT TAKING HER!!
Gives a lot of homework but its all relative to the class. If you actually do the homework it helps a lot with her tests. She uses a lot of real life examples. She cares about her students that come to class and actively participate. She can be rude to the people who don't come to class on time or miss class often. Gives lots of extra credit.
Do not take her I would find a different teacher if I were you
Dr. G can seem abrasive at times. My advise would be to not take anything personally. She is there to do her job (and make sure you are safe in lab; live microbes) and you are there to learn. She teaches in a storytelling fashion making the material easy to remember. She is by far the best Professor in the Bio department I have taken.
I took Lakshmi fall of 2015. I saw her reviews on here and was quite skeptical going into class. Now, she is my favorite professor at CLC. She has a true passion for what she does and shows it clearly to her students. She is willing to go out of her way to make sure you are comprehending the material. GO TO OFFICE HOURS. She appreciates it.
She is a great person with lots and lots of knowledge. She is a super easy grader, but her lectures are heavy. She requires you to take notes, and you don't want to mess with her. She has PHD in Biology so she knows what she is doing and she also expects you to KNOW the material she goes over. Make sure to go to her lecture because they are crucial
I feel very prepared for the nursing program after taking her Micro class. It's not an easy subject but it is easier w/ her. After talking w/ others taking the same class w/ different ppl, I'm glad I took it w/ her. She gives you the power points ahead of time, every homework is relevant and not busy work, & she puts extra credit in every test.
Despite negative reviews, I ended up really enjoying her class! As long as you actually do work and show her that you're there to learn, she's actually quite silly and very sweet! She usually starts off her semester seeming mean and abrasive, even verging on bullying, but it's all a tough act! So passionate about science you can't help but learn!
Utterly patronizing and talks to you like you're 5. Also expects you to answer what should be rhetorical questions before moving on making lecture drag (I.e "so are microbes then big or small")
I saw some of her negative reviews and so I was intimidated by her at first, but then she showed that she was a very accommodating teacher, she is always welcoming students that come to her office, readings are a must, she gave us 1 paper and a powerpoint presentation as well as Exams. She also gives out extra credit assignments.
Professor Gollapudi is great. If you want an A, she makes you work for it but gives you more than enough resources to succeed. She's strict in lab but its for your own safety. All homework prepares you for the exam and if you fill out the study guides, you're ready for the exam. She has a passion for Microbio and is more than willing to help out.
Professor Gollapudi is an excellent professor. She is very strict in lab, but not unnecessarily so. Her lectures are fantastic and she explains things in a way that is easily understandable rather than making things seem more complex than they need to be. She is very clear about her expectations and there are no surprises when it comes to grading.
I thought she was going to be a bad professor like everyone says but she's just strict in lab and attendance so just follow the rules and you are fine. she does give a lot of homework but is easy to do which mean easy points. Not a though grader which is nice for all her homework
This class was good because (if you make the effort) she takes time to make sure you understand material; she used everyday examples to maintain interest. There is a LOT of homework and you will have to learn to manage your time, really read the chapters to go with the lecture and the tests are hard, but it isn't bad once you get the routine of it.
Based on the mixed reviews she had on RMP I wasn't sure about the class. Once I took it.. I was blown away with how amazing of a teacher she is. She gives you so much information and materials to help you learn. While microbiology is a hard class, you want a teacher who teaches well and will give you the correct information. 10/10 would recommend!
I was hesitant to take her class but I'm so happy I did! I'm not sure why everyone's is giving her a hard time. She's really informative and super detailed with her lectures. Her tests are relatively easy, as long as pay attention and do the homework, you should have no problem passing this class. She also offers lots of extra credit on exams!
I love that the lecture correlates to the test so the book isnt necessary. The lab was a bit confusing with directions at time but she is really good at lecturing and making the topics clear with lots of study guides as HW. Just do the HW doesnt have to be right just done!
Amazing professor, smart and knows her field very well. Relates lectures to lab and to real world examples. Gives you clear instructions of what she expects from you in order to pass. I dont really believe she is a tough grader, its just a hard class. Shes wants her students to succeed. Keeps the class on track and usually follows syllabus.
I'm not a science person and was dreading this class. As long as you show up and pay attention, you can't help but learn. She gives a lot of homework, but they are your study guides and exactly like the test. All tests have extra credit. Her lectures are interesting and sometimes funny. Her helpfulness depends on her mood. Overall, it was easy.
I took this class with Lakshmi from a friend's recommendation and she was right when she told me this prof is awesome. The material is hard but Lakshmi makes lectures as interesting as possible, gives homework to help understand (and as easy fluff points, offers extra credit, and lots of the material from the Ppts are on the test. Loved this prof
horrible teacher don't take her. you will fail
she is sometimes rude but she knows how to make the material easier for students
She is the best teacher I have ever had. She has an amazing teaching style she uses visuals and mechanics. Breaks every down to where you can understand. I would really recommend her
This is probably the most knowable professor I have ever had. He lectures are amazing but she expects you to know EVERTHING. If you interested in learning biology take her. If you interested in getting the highest possible grade for the least amount of work take someone else.
Lakshmi is a great instructor but she goes through the material very quickly and expects you to know EVERYTHING for each exam. Not the most approachable woman, if you ask a question she makes you feel like an idiot for asking but despite that, really knows her stuff and you'll learn a lot. Definitely requires a lot of work and a lot of studying.
She is the best professor I ever had. The material is very heavy, but she provides good examples to make it understandable. It was a VERY hard class, but I loved it a lot.
ALWAYS follow the instructions, everything you need to know she will tell you. A lot of homework and learning, but everything is from the lecture, make sure to write it down
I came into this course with an enthusiastic mindset to learn biology. However this woman quickly shut it down by making me feel very stupid. She also humiliated me in front of the entire classroom because I couldnt remember every detail from the reading the night prior. As an intro class, it shouldnt be to scare people away.
I am now at a four-year school, and there has not been a single class that I have had to study as much for as this class. She expects one to know a LOT of information. but she also explains things really well. She also is really committed to her students. Picture stern a but loving neighbor that bakes you cookies. I went to her office hours a lot.
Honestly, I hated going to this class. Lecture heavy and tons of homework. Tough grader and got mad over the smallest things. Worst teacher I've ever had at CLC.
Dr. Gollapudi is by far the toughest professor Ive ever had in my academic career. However, shes tough with reason. The bad reviews and students getting bad grades dont belong in the medical field. Im currently in this class and its not even my field and Im doing fine - the studying is the most intensive Ive done but Im learning a lot.
Lakshmi can come as scary and intimidating at first. The more you get to know her you start to see shes actually really nice and is always willing to help. However, she will not chase after you if youre struggling. Most definitely not an easy A. Lots and lots of studying but she breaks everything down and makes it easy to learn a full subject.
She's honestly one of the toughest graders I have ever come across. Her quizzes are also really hard. Prepare to eat, sleep, and live biology. She definitely did scare me a couple of times due to her aggressiveness. However, she truly made biology super intriguing and challenging. I recommend her only to people who are serious about their field.
I came into this class with a positive attitude towards Biology. I ended this class with absolutely hating Biology. The conceding attitude given makes you feel like a failure and the tests are not easy. I do give props for how quick assignments are graded. However, I wouldn't recommend to anyone.
She is knowledgeable but moody/can be rude and that made coming to class dreadful. She expects you to know/memorize everything. She makes students feel stupid. The labs were fun but I would've prefered to take a diff teacher. I did not enjoy her demeanor. Very heavy on lectures/reading the book. Gave out tedious long HW that was worth 5 points...
This is the most knowledgeable professor I have ever had. Stay away if youre not serious about this field. Her lectures are always connected to real world experiences.
Overall Professor Gollapudi was good. She is very knowledgeable about biology and she makes lectures understandable, although they go very fast. This class is hard so don't take it if you're not serious about biology and be prepared to study a lot.
Probably one of the worst professors I have ever had. She couldn't care less about her students and is not helpful at all.
Gen biology 1 is not an easy class. Professor Gollapudi makes you work your butt off in order to recieve an B or higher in the class. You have to be ready to take effective notes from her lectures because they will appear on the exams (lecture). Every assignment counts regardless if it's 5 or 20 points. Make sure you never miss an assignment! :)
Needless to say this course is definitely not for the weak or lazy. She said at the beginning of the semester that her objective is to weed out. I recommend not taking another have course load with this course.
Professor is understanding but has mandatory looseleaf w/ access card. Anywhere from 4 to 10 assignments over a 2-week period. Discussions are worth more than the HW, even though the HW can get to be 4-5 pages. Available by email. If you don't put in double the credit hours for study, you won't pass. Not a BIO major course, still feels like it.
She's nice. But, you'll have anywhere from 3-10 assignments per week, all of which take an incredible amount of time. Only 3 credit hour course, but it's more work than 5 credit hour courses... Tests don't allow backtracking, so if you forget an answer then remember, you're screwed, even if you know the material.
Dr. G is very knowledgeable, however I took her micro class and in the middle of it had to change to online due to COVID. It was extremely difficult to take a lab class online and it just seemed like it didn't matter to her. Anytime I asked for help she wasn't really receptive to it. Got an F on a huge assignment that I asked for help with.
I took BIO 161 online. Not fun, I definitely would've preferred in person. Anyway, she's a great professor. Its a lot of note taking. Every week you take notes on a new chapter and have a lab. There is a lot of tests and quizes, so be prepared.
Gave me a F on a 20 page paper that I for sure deserved the very least a C on. I got a C in her class because of this, and I deserved a B in the class. She is so rude. Make sure you use your phone when looking up questions.
During my semester, my grandfather (who has raised me as my only parent) passed away. I was gone for the first week so that I could cremate him and take over the bills . I informed the professor and let her know I needed an extension and some leniency. She did not extend anything, and I got an F that dropped my overall grade to a C. Horrendous.
She does not explain enough of the content to expect what she does.
I struggled with her labs because they were online and she hardly gave us any direction, when I emailed her about struggling and telling her that I couldn't complete the labs because of the lack of info she basically told me that all the information and directions were there. She gaslighted me saying that everything I needed was given to me.
If you put in the work you will be fine. Decent professor. Not the best at explaining what she wants to see in labs/lab reports. Lots of quizzes and tests, but overall not horrible
You'll get most of your info from reading the book. If you don't read you won't pass. In her lecture, she only goes over half of the info of the chapter in-depth and doesn't even talk about the second half at all. Very hard grader, expect to do at least 20 pages of lab work each week plus all the reading. Nice lady but has high expectations.
I took her class online anytime. I was able to get the homework done in time. She gave us a week to do it. But shes a picky grader and the assignments are not always clear. She gave me a low grade for not doing something specific, but she never mentioned it in the directions. I wouldnt take her again nor would I recommend her.
She is very strict professor, and her exams will be difficult but if you pay attention in class you will pass. Do not procrastinate in her class and try to get majority of the assailments done on time. Show up for her class and pay attention.
This professor has been the worse I've had in my 3 years of college. She's a tough grader, doesn't outline what she expects from assignments, and doesn't give any feedback besides red ticks on assignments. She is not understanding about late work or personal situations. Wish I dropped this class when I had the chance to get my money back. Horrible.
Had to argue back and forth between the dean and this professor for harsh unfair grading policies. I will never take another class by her. She should never have become a teacher. It is very clear she hates her job and students. She never favors anyone she just simply dislikes having to teach in general and its clear.
Literally would not recommend her classes to anyone. She gives a whole spiel about the amount of hours for a 3-credit class, and then assigns you 10+ hours of work each week. The week before spring break or a holiday, instead of keeping the same workload she DOUBLES it - it's very clear she cares about only finishing the textbook. Run while you can
This professor is probably the worst professor I have had over the years. Her tests state that they are on the modules but then when taking them, they are on the random Youtube videos that she assigns with the discussions. Even when emailing her asking her for help, good luck with getting a response within a week.
DO NOT TAKE HER!!!!! RUN FOR UR LIFE. My parents and I r thinking of dropping this class due to the fact that I am at a border line C/D range. One more test puts me at a D. What does not make sense is that even if u do better on a test your could still drop depending on how well u do on it
Professor Gollapudi was one of my favorite professors so far! She was explaining so well during labs, she was even performing the lab herself. She was always available if you needed help, she gave extra credit for going to for 2 days for showing up at the lab. The lab final was super manageable, you just need to use your skills.
I absolutely loved this teacher and would recommend taking her, she's amazing!
Avoid this class if possible. The professor assigns excessive amounts of weekly work, even doubling it before breaks. Tests are unfairly structured, and getting help from the professor is a challenge. However, Unstuckstudy proved a helpful study tool alongside the textbook.
I regret waiting too long to enroll in this course because I rather have taken any other professor. I was out with covid for one of the weeks with a drs note and unable to attend lab. I explained the situation and received a very passive aggressive email back. The final lab wasnt hard necessarily but takes two WHOLE weeks to complete
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY ON THIS INSTRUCTOR Her teaching style is ineffective, her exams are unfair, and her lack of support makes an already difficult subject even harder. Save your GPA, your mental health, and your money .
Lakshmi was a good professor who holds her students to a high standard. I think that a lot of people didn't expect this but microbio is a high level class for future healthcare workers. She related everything back to healthcare and made difficult concepts more understandable. BE ON TIME. She does take off points for missing class or being late.
