she's funny and have a cute in personalities
Nice lady. Go to her office hours with your test. Gives extra points.
Excellent teacher! Lot of homework.
Overloads you on homework and quizzes. Way too hard for intro stats. She is a nice lady though.
She is an excellent but challenging teacher. She is very clear with her requirements. Don't take her if you don't want to work very hard on the material.
Very attractive lady, very helpful, clear, and builds a strong interest in the class. WAYYY too much homework though! Every odd problem!! And her tests are killer.

tough teacher with tough tests, but is very knowledgeable and very helpful. you will learn quite a bit if you take her. also, is quite cute and very enthusiastic.

If you like to take teachers with absolutely no focus, hours upon hours of homework every night, and love taking difficult tests, then this teacher is the one for you!
I have never learned so much. She is enthusiastic and explains the material well plus she makes you feel like you are the most important person in the world when you ask questions.
I think Mrs Howard is an excellent teacher. Take her if you are looking for a new way to look at Math. She does give too much homework though but is fair about allowing you to make it up.
Great at teaching, but no mercy on tests. Difficulty of tests does not match her instruction. Does not curve, many of her quizzes/tests have mistakes on them, lots of homework.
She explains the material very well and really cares about answering questions until you unserstand. She cares and is very human. She also has a cute accent.
Prof. Howard was a very hard and mean professor, and whoever said that she will give you points for going into her office hours is BULL! she can be a TOTAL ****! trust me!! you DO NOT want to take Howard...tons of homework, and very hard tests!!
What are you talking about? she is perfect.if you watn an easy A do not take her.
Worst Math Professor I have ever taken! her exams are very hard..and she gives tons and tons of homework..and she is straight up annoying! spare yourself..do not take her!
she knows her stuff and is super nice take her.
She's hard on the tests but makes an effort at making sure people are getting the material. LOTs of homework. Not recommended if you have heavy schedule due to work!

Nobody explains like she does and she likes math so much she will make you like it to. She is not easy but she cares.
Mrs howard is a very good teacher and knows how to explain unlike some other teachers i had.I recommend her to anyone who wants to continue with math.
Avoid at all costs if you're anything less than the best at math and expect clarity as far as test content and review.
she is awesome!!!!
her english is suspect but she makes up for it by explaining everything in detail. also very easy on the eyes.
do NOT take her! trust me! especially if you don't like math..she is very hard! and gives out a lot of homework
Mrs. Howard is nice and she cares.I wish I could take next math with her but she is not teaching it.
I only have three words for this professor: WORST MATH TEACHER!; so i higly recommend you stay away from her, especially if math is not one of your strong points!
Really bad teacher. She is nice but not much help if you have problems understanding the material
She is the worst math teacher i ever have. She force you to turn in hw which is very annoy.take home quiz is a pain too.she also avoid answer my questions. I failed her class but i got A+ on the other teacher when i retake it.avoid her if you can!
She is very hard. She likes to fail people, it makes her feel better. If you get a C in her class that means you are an "A" student. I advice other teachers for Math, not her.
She is very hard teacher, she gives out 7 homeworks package, 12points each, very hard, you have to show everything to get full points, 5 tests, show everything, and final is worth 220 points multiple choice, 34question, cover everything, and extreamly hard.
She is the best teacher I have ever had. she stops and answers questions and she really cares that we learn. but the most important thing is she has class!!!!
I took her class spring semseter in 2004. I like her so much, and I recommoned that her office hour is really helpfull. If you are interested in Math, you have to take classes with her. She is a little bit hard, but for sure you will improve a lot.
Great teacher. Her enthusiasm for math will keep you awake in class. I learned a lot from her class and I think she is the best math teacher I've ever had. If you need help, she's always available during her office hours.
The best math teacher I have ever had. Her enthusiasm is contageous! What good is a teacher if they are not enthusiastic and don't enjoy teaching their subject?

She is very very hard, but she is very nice. Some of the things she does is easy but at the end its really hard. You better study well before she gets MISS PIGGY and SNOOPY on you, so don't cut FOOTLOOSE
I strongly recommend her for math 104, if youdo your work, THATS IT ...!!
OH MY GOD! the worst teacher ever!! i could not stand her! she is so mean!, if math is not ur best subject then def. don't take her! she is a very hard grader, and she likes to see her students suffer! i STRONGLY advise you not to take her!
I've got mixed feeling on Prof Howard. On one hand, she knows her stuff really well and is passionate about math, but she's always rushing during the class and doesn't slow down a bit. She was late during her office hours. You MUST study the material yourself and go to every class.
She thinks a lot about math and can explain complicated topics from any angle. This school is blessed to have her teaching. She'll work your ass off, but you'll be SO prepared for the next class. AND she's very available to help you if you're having trouble, but you have to try on your own first.
She is a very nice lady and a good professor, but What a hard grader! I STRONGLY ADVISE YOU TO TAKE HER AT YOUR OWN RISK!
She is very clear & very helpful on her examples of math Any Calculus/Linear Algebra, but wait till you check out her exams w/big rules. IT is like how Shrek did his exam. She is hot b/c of her foreign accent! Take her at your own risk.
She teaches slowly and goes over concepts more carefully so students understand it better. Her approach is really good for students who are not strong in math. As for me, I was bored half the time because she took long to cover the material. Nonetheless she is an awesome teacher.
Professor Howard is a nice lady. She knows her material and is very good at explaining it. She grades hard but she teaches pretty well. Take her if you want to learn. Do the hw and go to her office hours for help. Good professor but hard class. Calc isnt easy.
she is not good, she doesn,t teach good but she expects students to do good. she is one of those small teachers who thinks she is big professor. tests are hard specially finel. very very unfair. don,t take her if you need an A
She is a really good teacher, explains everything very well. If you want to pass calculus and haven't had math in a while, take her class. Excpect to learn though. She is also very hot and has a nice ass.
Howard ROCKS. She is not mean. She's actually very sweet and caring. Yes, her class is hard....but it's Calculus. She does a good job of explaining and expects clarity from her students. Again....she's trying to teach to college students not whiny high schoolers.
SHE IS GREAT!!!! by far the best teacher in the math department. HELPFUL, KIND, GOOD LOOKING, DOWN TO EARTH, the total package.
She is the best math teacher i have ever had. The nicest thing about her is that she is human. she smiles and laughs and is really intersted in making sure you are learning. Also, she gets really excited about problems. She keeps saying "look at how beautiful". I may not pass but i like her attitude.
Very fast pace, miss a day and your done, miss 3 and your dropped, no exp!! She likes you or she dosent and your grade depends on it. Lots of work and a quiz every week. Have fun.
Mrs. Howard is a good professor. She is really clear in her explanation. Take her for Calculus if you want to study.Very helpful, go to her office hour if you need help. Quiz every week. I like her teaching style, especially whe she said "I have 1 minutes left, don't go yet". Test is hard but you'll be fine if you study.
Fabulous teacher!!!!She is very helpful, nice, attractive, fun, and clear in teaching. Has a lot of group works in class, so you can make a lot of friends.
Grrrreat teacher..always have review for everything before she starts new chapter.Very helpful,u can go ask her since she has office hours everyday.Ssuper clear in teaching, good lecture!! Have a lot of group work in class but she still helps you.She is my best math teacher ive ever had. Her exams r easy if u study. Just do d homework,n u'll be fine

calc 2 is of course going to be hard. howard does her best to make it bearable. alot of homework but she doesnt really check it. you need to do it though if you want understand the material. test are hard but parts of a couple of the test were take home. final is multiple choice but you still have to study your ass off. she is a good caring teacher
Dont listen to the dissenters, and please notice that they cant even spell. Howard is a tough grader but she can afford to be because she teaches so well. When she was going to teach over the summer almost half our class was scheduled to take her again. I wish every teacher at Mesa was this good and cared this much. Thanks Laleh!!!
wowwww..superb!!!! she is the best math teacher at mesa..no wonder that she got the 2nd place of teacher of the year. HIGHLY recommended to take her, especially if u really want to comprehend math. teaches very well, gives a lot of examples&reviews, a lot of group work. i took her for 3 semesters just because she is the best!
The worst math teacher I ever had. Poor time management and organization. Teaches her own special methods that no other teacher has heard of. Flat out refuses to answer questions in office hours. Grades differently for each person. Spends an hour and a half talking theory and might do one example. Skips entire sections b/c she runs out of time.
Easily one of the most annoying teachers I've ever had. Her voice is so bad that I always leave class with a hangover, without even drinking! She continuously asks the class stupidly easy questions when teaching & wastes ALOT of time. She takes marks of disproportionately (a simple mistake will cost 1/2 the question). From an A avg engineer student
she was rude. you could be late to a couple classes and she would drop you without warning. didn't learn a thing while in the class and math is my thing. had to teach myself everything.
Definately one of the worst math professors I have had. Teaching methods do not provoke confidence in ability. Grades do not match student abilities and all work must be done her way or no points. She knows the textbook material well, but not much more. She wastes too much time on non-relavent or easy material. Avoid taking her if possible.
Avoid taking her if possible!!!
She was definitely knowledgeble on subject and demanded strict mathematical rigor. Required students to submit "sufficient" amount of worked out problems from textbook instead of assigning specific problems. I didn't like her testing method with scantrons; prefer worked out problems to remove any doubt about student's mastery of material.
Mrs. Howard is superb. She is the best teacher I have ever had. She knows her stuff, is caring, explains the material well and is always available in her office. If you want an easy A or you like to whine do not take her. If you want exquisite teaching take her.
Mrs. Howard is an excellent teacher. She explains the material well, loves questions and cares about her students. I at UCLA and I could not have done many of my classes if I did not have her as a teacher. To the person who called Mrs. Howard rude: You are the rude one, grow up and understad that the class does not start when you get there!
I loved Mrs. Howard as a teacher and as a person. She is enthusiastic and helps you make sense of tough concepts proooofs!!!!!. She is always there to help and truly cares about people.
here is how good she is I took math 150, 151, 252, 254, and 255 with her. she is the best.
I took Calc I, II and III with this professor. She is great! Some things to look to/out for, just like any other normal Calculus prof. she doesn't allow the use calculators on the test, gives surprise quizzes to make sure you are getting ready for the test, and she has a multiple choice final. She provides sample final, gives lots of partial credit
She is by far the best professor I have ever had. She is enthusiastic and nice and she knows how to explain a very difficult subject. She does assign homework and I think her tests are fair.
She is the best instructor ever. She is enthusiastic and nice and she explains the material well. she is always available for office hours and is really helpful.
Mrs. Howard is one of the best professors I have ever had. She is not too hard, not too easy she is just right except she is so helpful that she makes it easy for you.
she can explain math.
OK, she is AWESOME...very helpful, very nice, very clear, very easy on grading, a lot of partial credit, do your homework and you don't need anything else. A bunch of office hours, she will help you, but you have to study to...So far I'm getting an A+, hopefuly I will continue...) take her, no wonder that she has a nice "quality" in this website...
Prof. Howard is one of the best mesa college has to offer. she really really enjoys what she does, and gives very good lectures. Test may be challenging but as long as put some effort, you should do fine. Thank you Professor Howard. P.S. she is a real nice person!
I cannot believe I will not be taking her ever again, she is a really kind teacher who gives fair grades. Occasionally the lecture stretches itself out, but I still enjoy the class. Just make sure to do your homework and if you do not understand a certain concept, she will definitely help you one on one.
I am italian and my english is not great, but she is amazing. I do not understand how few people can say to do not take her. I never had in my life such a great professor. I am not saying it is easy, and it is not suppose to be easy, but if you do your student job you will get an easy B. Very good teacher. Take care guys.
Great Teacher.... I would take her again if i wasnt already transfering out of Mesa. Calc II is hard as is but she is very helpful in class and during office hours
Great Teacher. Hard Subject and Hard Grader and A lot of work. But teaches very well and is very caring and friendly. Knowing how to solve the problems correctly isnt enough for this class, SPEED is extremely important in her class!
She is great. You do have to work but you will learn and she is very helpful. She may seem like a hard grader but when you go tho her office she will give you a lot of points back. She really cares and spends an incredible amount time in her office helping students.
Professor Howard is one of the best instructors I have had for any math class. You must put in a lot of effort but you will end up learning alot. The class was not easy but with her help the class turned up being awesome.
I don't know how this teacher managed to get good comments on here. they must have been left by her. After reading her comments on here i thought i was going to learn alot, instead im left with this rediculous teacher that cant teach. so take my advice and choose a different teacher, if you don't you'll regret it, I promise.
IF you want to learn take her. She explains the material well and is nice.
If you take her, you better be prepared to do a large volume of work. She expects you to do hw problems in the book, and large packets of hand in work. Tests are very hard. Stingy when it comes to partial credit. Big on precise notation. No calculators or note cards. There are better professors for this class. Very enthusiastic which is appreciated
I love her!she does assign a lot of homework and does not allow calculators and notes and does not give practice tests but she is fair, answers all questions and she is very availale.she even stays hours past her office hours to help and she also cmes in on fridays.
Homework overload. Can't effectively get through the assigned book work and graded homework quizzes (up to 74 problems on HW quizzes!). Seriously needs to find a balance. Strict in her grading. No calculators or note cards (calculators would help w/ visualizing 3d shapes). Moderate load students think twice about her for this class.
Looking at the time studying for finals in four classes - I have 40 hours for this class and 10 hours for the other three COMBINED! That's been about the same ratio all semester as far as work load. I picked her because she had great ratings on this site, but it seems like she's having a tough semester personally, because she's been totally strict
There is a lot of work in this class, but she gives practice tests that are similar to the real test. You can come into her office for help and she will commonly award you points back if you can find your own errors and explain where you erred. She is very nice.
Too much homework! But anyone that rates professor Howard lower than a 5 on helpfulness and clarity is being dishonest. She is the best. I am not going to take differential equations until she teaches it. If she did not assign so much homework she would be perfect.
She is the best teacher in Mesa. She's very fun and helpful which she stay an hours after class for help. Trust me, if you do all homework and online quiz, you will get an A. It is an easiest A for all my math class
The worst decision i made at mesa college was taking Mrs Howard for linear algebra. I was going to leave a long post, but i can sum her up in one word USELESS... dont' do it to yourself, take Brea
Ms Howard is the most incredible, sympathetic, pateint,& smartest professor I have ever had in my life. She teaches 3-5 different classes each semester, but she's never missed up anything. She organizes everything in her head. She is THE BEST professor in Mesa. I hate those stupids saying she is not good. Do not just sit-do nothing & blame her.
a lot of work, practices favoritism, rude, unhelpful and waves off your questions like they aren't important...would i take her class again? Hell no
She is the BEST professor in Mesa. Trust me. If u wanna be strong in Math, take all her classes. She makes her class be easy & enjoyable. U'll feel safe if u r in her class. Test is easy-Of course u've got to do word. U can earn more point if u can correct your mistake. She's very helpful in her office hours. She even creates a study group if u ask
What LOSERS! She does not have favorites she just knows some of the students from her previous classes. I took her for Math 150, 151, 252 and 254 and of course she is going to know me. She is the most enthusiastic helpful and fair teachers I have ever had but if you think going to her office is sucking up to her she is not for you.
Prof. Howard is very helpful teacher. I took her for Math 116 and Math 119. I am very thankful that she is my Math teacher. She is also very nice to every student. I will recommend her to every student.
My favorite teacher so far in all my college years. I made sure to take all three calc courses with Laleh. She definitely knows what she is doing and will teach you calc in a way that is easy to understand. I highly recommend Laleh Howard to every single student as she challenges you but delivers a beautiful presentation of calculus.
Prof. Howard is very helpful teacher. I took with her math 116 and Math 119. I am reaaly thanful tp that she was my Math teacher.
Got an A, but would not take her again. Lectures are highly unorganized and she spends the majority of her class time reviewing calc 1. She also fell 3 weeks behind on lectures. Her tests are not hard, but she is a very picky grader. She gives away grades by letting you argue for more points on tests. I think that is the favoritism issue.
her tests are so time stressed. They are straight forward but require some quick thinking. This class is not for slow test takers. HIGH Drop rate for her class, but she gets the job done by teaching you everything you need to know for the next level. Anti - Calculator person. Homework and quizzes help grade a lot.. DO THE quiz by yourself TO LEARN.
Amazing professor and person. Calculus is not for dummies, so expect do work regardless of the teacher. She is fare, no favorism, and gives points for homework and takehome quizzes. Rare find also b/c she has practice tests. Extremely helpful outside of class! Just be willing to do work.
Extremely helpful and energetic, makes calculus fun. She is an expert in what she does and she can understand where people may have problems. Bring useful exercises to the class. Extra credit, take home quizzes, homework graded and practice test --> no other calc professor will have! Calculus is hard, so don't look for a free ride, there isn't one!
A lot of work for 3 unit class. Also she has a strong accent so she is very confusing at times. She is very HARD who does not allow the use of a calculator for LINEAR ALGEBRA. We had to do a lot of matrices using a pen a pencil no calculators. This professor needs to use some technology
Very unfair class teacher is very strict and does not help at all. When I went to her office hours she told me to just read the book. She did not even try to help me understand the examples. She goes way to fast, and we CANNOT use a calculator on the test. Think about what you are getting yourself into prior to enrolling!! Don't Take
If you are an A student, she's nice to you. If not, she's UNHELPFUL. Doesn't answer emails properly. Only teaches theories in class, doesn't help out with tricky questions, but asks them on the tests. "Life is good", I'm sick of her saying that, it's annoying. She could be worst, yes, like Lapuma, but I still wouldn't consider a 'great professor'.
WORST TEACHER EVER! JUST DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. A LOT OF HOMEWORK, UNORGANIZED LECTURE, UNHELPFULLNESS.
Those who complain don't know what a bad prof. is. This was my second time taking calc 1 and I was learning useful and important tricks and techniques every class. Pay attention, do the homework, and work the prac. tests thoroughly. Its calculus and its hard. Expect to work hard and know the material well at the end if you do.
Very helpful & very attractive :) Work the practice exams & verify your solutions. She is particular about formatting for proofs, so make sure your logic makes sense to her. I agree with a previous poster about the technology. No calculators in the beginning is important for concept, but they should be allowed in the last weeks of the class.
The subject is difficult. Math does not come to easily to most and I think that is why many people take that out on her. I got an A in her class. It wasn't easy, but I believe it was good preparation for University. She gives you all the necessary resources to succeed. Work the homework and practice tests until you have it down and you'll be fine.
She one of the best professors you could ever have an opportunity to take. Laleh Howard is the most helpful, excellent, challanging, extrapointgiving, harworking professors. If you are a math major, or want to learn math well, I definitely suggest professor Howard. I have taken her for calc 2 and l.a. Both awesome, got A+es. If you are lazy, take professor Sandvick he is easy. Professor Howard is not as easy, you will have to complete your homework, but you will Really learn, give you my word!!
I loved her class, the class it's not very easy but i love the way she teaches, very helpful and understanding. If you dont want to study alot this is not ur class for sure.
I miss her!! Hate my current professor
Overlay she is a good teacher. she explains her lecture clear. Her tests are hard and the time she designs for tests is not enough for students to complete their work. she purposely stresses out students by counting minutes. So, you either know it or dont. if you are sharp on math i recomend her she prepares you well for the next math courses.
Possibly the best math teacher I have had ad SDCCD. I still remember her lectures. She is brilliant
Awesome teacher! Her class is not easy and you should expect to spend a considerable amount of time studying, but if you really want to learn calculus you won't be disappointed. She is a nice and cheerful person too, which makes class time less stressful... study the material until you can do it quickly or else you'll run out of time on the tests.
The best instructor I've ever had. If you have any future in learning math this is the instructor you need. She will motivate you to never miss her class. It's the most excitement I have ever had for a math course. The best of all she is EXTREMELY HOT.
As Ms Howard would call me "The born again math student" got a C- on her first exam but she challanged me through the class with an overall positive attitude and a strong willingness to help, and by the end i recieved a B. Her lectures are interesting and dont be shy to speak up if you need help. By far my favorite teacher.
Do NOT take her class!. You'll regret it if you take it. I promise.
If you can learn from a teacher solving problems on her own on the board without involving the class then take her class. You will pretty much learn on your own thanks to the heavy homework workload if you don't withdraw like almost half of my class did. Concentrate on the group quizzes to get an idea of what homework assignments to focus on.
Highly recommended. Professor Howard has a great website with sample tests, practice homework sets, etc. She really goes above and beyond in preparing her students for her tests. Take advantage of the resources she provides and the class is enjoyable.
Took her Cal 1 class with Honors contract, passed the class with an A. Tons of homework, but if you do the homework, you'll be ready for the tests and, eventually, ready for Cal 2.
Do not take this class, extremely difficult.. if you plan on transferring NO math class is as difficult as this one.
This class is a nightmare, the tests are your worst dream come alive. Yes Calc 2 is not supposed to be easy, granted. But you will have so many problems that chances are you won't finish tests in time. I believe only 2 people had finished the final before she called time, same with the test prior to that. And homework, whoa buddy!!!
Great teacher, super nice and helpful. She definitely knows her stuff and lectures very fast. You can't drift off or miss a class because you'll probably get lost! Tests are fairly hard (MUST SHOW ALL WORK) but doable, and there is an extreme amount of homework (every odd problem). Even so, I would take her again without hesitation - she's awesome!
She's nice to an extent, she gets distracted easily and has a heavy accent. The homework is really tedious as you are expected to do 100+ problems every night. Tests are a nightmare and rarely uses her office hours. She rushes through lectures and even if you pay good attention you're still screwed. Beware!
Excellent teacher! Plan to transfer to UCSD, and needed MATH 150 for major. She is an awesome teacher, very likable, always laughing and smiling. Normal amount of HW for a math class. She has sample tests which MIRROR the actual tests. Does a good job explaining the concepts. BE SURE TO KNOW TRIG AND BE GOOD AT ALGEBRA.
Great teahcer, I took her for math 92. I never really understood math until now. Mrs. Howard is very helpful, she is very smart and loves to teach! One of the main reasons I made an account was to rate/recommend her to my fellow students that always struggled with math. She's great!
She is a very good professor, you can learn a lot from her! A lot of home work and challenge test help you find your weakness .
She is very nice, funny and helpful. She will go over any problems if you don't understand. Lots of office hours. 5 exams, take home quizes. Tips: Do your homework and sample tests, you'll for sure get an A.
She is very helpful and will go to great lengths to help students pass. Her class does require homework and she has quizzes as well. A lot of times she lets the class work in groups. I've always been bad at math and she helped me understand it tremendously!!
Absolutely love this teacher! The class I took was accelerated, but she understood this and would stop everyone once in awhile just to make sure everyone was clear on what she was teaching. She gets a little distracted easily but it's amusing. Pretty strict on attendance (or so she says). Tests are a breeze, 20 or so basic problems.
she is a great teacher who is really understanding and will give you the benefit of the doubt if you show up to class great study guide and easy to understand
She is the best mathematician professor I've ever had. Explains everything perfectly, different ways if you didn't get at first. She gives you a lot of homework and her tests are not easy, you have to think a little bit more, but nothing surreal. She will prepare you good for her tests. She is amazing!!!
She was selective on the students she would help. She is a nice lady, but was very unorganized. She squeezed in ten sections the week before the final. Also, she gave a test the two days before the final. She gave three take home quizzes and homework does not count for much. The exams are hard and her sample test do not prepare you for the exams.
I took her 8 week class and she made stats very easy to comprehend. As long as you show up to class and do the homework, you should pass. The homework isn't too time consuming and will help prepare you for the tests. The biggest keys to success in this class is having a good formula sheet for the test and studying the sample tests on blackboard.
great class
Even though I've taken her class a few years ago, taking her for Calculus 1 taught me how to do well in all of my courses, especially throughout my years finishing all my math up here at Mesa. Her final was tough from what I remembered, however as for exams, they're not so bad if you work on every single problem in the book that she assigns,
She's a great professor. Take her class. She cares about her students.
Prof. Howard is such a caring teacher. I absolutely loved taking her class and she seems like she really cares about students learning and understanding. You must take her!
Great professor who loves to teach, but needs some time management improvement. Often spends more time than needed on easy matters, and then flies through the harder material due to lack of time. She often updates the syllabus to make up for delays in the schedule. Make sure you're on top of the material, or by the end of the semester, you'll fail.
Teacher is great, however, tests are really long and hard! She is very helpful during her office hours.
Horrible, horrible teacher! Probably the worst I have ever taken. Spends too much time on certain parts and then crams everything at once. Makes us students take tests that she knows we can't even finish in the given time. Grading system is not cut and clear. Makes students take in-class test and take-home test for every chapter, both very hard!
Although professor Howard is a very kind and enthusiastic teacher, her teaching style is not the most clear. There are easier ways to learn and solve these difficult calculus problems. She is a tough grader but she curves the tests. There's last minute topics that show up on the tests as well.
Professor Howard knows her stuff, but isn't the best at teaching it. The enthusiasm is definitely there and she likes what she does but her methods for demonstrating and solving problems couldn't be more indirect. I walked out of her first lecture on conic sections, a topic I am VERY comfortable with, confused. Be prepared to study.
Laleh Howard is very enthusiastic about math. You can tell she really enjoys teaching. However, her methods are often confusing and not straightforward. There may be easier methods in the class textbook or online, but she will deduct points off your tests if you do not use the methods she directs you to use. If you miss class, good luck.
I highly recommend this professor because she gives you sample tests. Also she is a professor that cares about his students and wants them to pass. The key for passing her class is to study the sample tests.
Tons of energy flowing from her on every lecture. Great personality. Respectful to students. Makes time out of class. Clear grading, and expectations. I would normally give her a 5 but she is a very straight grader, with no extra credit. If you struggle in math, she will be good to learn from but don't expect to get a good grade.
If you are going to take her class. Just don't. She doesn't offer extra credits, she doesn't allow to drop the lowest exam. Her lectures are stressful and confusing (she asks if you are ready, a lot). Her tests are very hard, it might be written for the best, not general students. The class I'm taking has dropped from more than 50 students to 20.
She's a great teacher to learn from! She's very basic with her expectations. If you want a High School setting with easy grading and extra credit, don't take her class.
She's friendly and will help if you ask. This class was tough and didn't feel like 3 units. A lot of homework to prepare you but if you have other classes, you will barely have time to review. The required text is not helpful, "we'll leave it up to you to prove this." She doesn't drop anything. She will teach a new chapter even if it's 5mins left.
She dumbs things down a lot and spends too much time on the simple things which causes her to get behind and fly through the tough stuff. She lectures new material for more than half the class before an exam. Never enough time to finish the exams which are very hard but she insists if you know "the most efficient" aka HER way that you will be fine
2nd worst teacher i've ever had. Horrible teaching, will drop you after W date for attendance, and attendance is on her time not actual schedule on reg E. worst lectures, half the class would sit on laptops not paying attention, makes the concepts way harder than they are and confuses you, she need to learn how to lecture
Homeworks: alot and tedious, considering it's only 6% of your grade... Tests: Tough grader. Will take the whole period. Nothing will be dropped No calculator, which isn't really a big deal. Pay attention in class because she would want you to do things the way she taught it. Grade Tests:60% HW:6% Quiz 8% Final:26% 89.9 is a B
She's a great instructor if you put effort and dedication to learn. She doesn't spoon feed you, which is how a class should be. Those that didn't pay attention are now rage-rating her for their lack of effort in the course lol oh well. If you wanna learn she's the one to take.
She has a mandatory attendance policy to her lectures, which means she will drop you after a certain number of absences, no questions asked. So even though her lectures are not useful, you have attend them anyway. Now in her defense, she does makes herself easily available during office hours. Nevertheless, I would not take her again.
she is by far the worst math teacher, She has no structure to her class literally jumps section to section and can't understand that she has to teach the students since we are not math professors so we require some explaining, and when she does explain she does it in the worst abstract way possible while the actual concepts are not that difficult.
When your friends in other calculus classes look at your tests and say what is this? I also love how a class of 50 is down to 10 while other classes are still completely full.
Pros: Good personality, decent lectures, answers questions, good availability. Cons: A LOT of homework and it's not worth much, Tests is 84% of grade, least structured math class I've ever been in, lectures test material day before test. Getting an A or B is very possible. But I think she assigns too much homework. Not as bad as people say she is.
She seems enthusiastic but she chews everyone that goes into her office. Her class had no structure and very hw and test heavy. We went over more concepts which is nice but her lack of teaching skills made it really hard to stay on top of everything. Also she has no rubric on grading so good luck understanding what you got wrong because she doesn't
Howard is enthusiastic about math and provides good help during office hours. However, Howard expects everyone to be a master at calculus. You'll need to memorize all derivatives, integrals, entire unit circle, and arcs. No calculators. Pop quizzes almost every day. For us it was everyday until after withdrawal day. Expect to work hard. Good luck.
Professor Howard is so great. When she teaches, she starts from the beginning and DOES NOT skip steps when doing problems. She is quite responsive to questions and wants you to understand the concepts. Her tests are difficult, you either know the material or you don't. She expects you to apply yourself completely. I would recommend her, hands down.
Do not take Howard if your goal is an easy A, that is IMPOSSIBLE. Howard will push you to your limit and make you work for your grade. That sounds bad, but it will help you in the long run. Classes start out large and end up with 10 people, keep in mind the class itself is very difficult. Calculus is not for the light hearted, neither is Howard.
Professor Howard is a great professor! I have taken Dif EQ and Calc 3 with her. Although her time may be limited during office hours, she is always willing to help. She gives take home tests and quizzes if she sees it necessary. These can be challenging, but the in class tests tend to be very straight forward. She's not big on extra credit.
I do not recommend this professor.. she makes the course even more difficult.. unclear lectures.
I dont recommend you to take her. She doesn't know how to teach college students. Her lecture is not clear cause she always wanted to finish 3 chapters at the same time and she cannot dumb it down enough for our young minds to comprehend quite yet. And her grading is to harsh , If you want to learn something please dont take her.
I got a good grade but she did not prepare me for the next math courses. She is not a good teacher and rather "cover" content than help us understand. I feel bad for the students that did not pass because she was not helpful at all to them and made us feel dumb. Shes nice when she doesnt talk about math but she should not teach the higher classes
Prof. Howard was very nice, but her grading can be extremely tough. If you are very detail-oriented, you will most likely do well. Her office hours are always busy, but she is there to help.
I honestly don't recommend this professor, if you wanna get a good great look for another professor. Shes doesn't teach all the materials.
Her lectures are entertaining, and not difficult to follow. The concept is a little hard to understand, and there's only homework and quizzes. The homework is only a minor portion of the grade (<10%), so the exams and quizzes are everything. Try to understand the material and do well on the exams and you'll definitely get a B or higher.
I do not recommend this professor, So far she's the worst professor i ever had class with. She literally told me to drop her class because i won't pass after failing my first exam even though we had three more exams left. She doesn't courage her students and unclear lecture. However, i proved her wrong by passing the class with a B.
Doing and understanding the homework is great preparation for the exams, but the difficulty may vary according to one's familiarity with prior math courses. While the lectures are quite compact, Prof. Howard would often let students pick questions to do as examples, and shows rather detailed steps for each question.
She is the best professor I've had my entire math career. She is tough grader but wants to see effort and takes in to account when you see her during office hours and ask her questions. Shes taken the time to go over homework problems and is very detailed in her explanations. I wish I would have had her in earlier math classes.
Professor Howard encourages you to see her in office hours. I recommend this as exam points may be regained as you explain your thinking or process. In this course she gave short quizzes at random on topics usually the previous lecture. Lecture takes all of the class time. Exams for me took all of the time allotted.
She is the worst math teacher I have ever had. I ask her if she could he me to improve my grade, but the only advice she gave me was to dropped the class. She does not care about the students. She gave you limited time to take the test instead the whole class.
She's a very understanding teacher so if you need extra help she'll move around her schedule for you. There's lots of homework, but if you don't finish it you can just speak with her and she'll push back the due date. Tests were just like the study guides so make sure to complete those. Overall a great teacher!
She is bad teacher instead of helping me she told me to go back to math 96. She does not let you use calculator and you have time 1 hour to take test. If you dont finish she would not let you finish.
One of the best profs I have had. She starts explaining new topics by drawing it out before going into the math, making it much easier to actually understand. Her tests are very straightforward and are on the EASIEST parts of each section. Also, extra credit like crazy. She genuinely wants every student to understand the subject matter and succeed.
worst professor ever.
I had an A in her class 12 weeks in until the last day before being able to drop with a W and she decided to drop me because I had 2 absences. She refused to let me back in the class. She thinks everything is about her and that her students don't matter at all. She didn't care that she's ruining my college career and now I cant apply to schools.
WORST TEACHER IVE EVER HAD. INSANE HOMEWORK AND VERY VERY NASTY ATTITUDE. BE CAREFUL SHE WILL DROP YOU OVER THE SLIGHTEST IRRITATION AND NOT LET YOU BACK IN.
Howard is a good lecturer and teaches well in person. However, the online class/transition is a mess. We had to watch youtube videos from other sources for lectures and the final is worth 1/3 of your grade. You only get 2 hours to complete 30 MCQs and you can have points taken off for your work as well. You can't really blame her though for online
This is her last semester so this review will probably not matter. She has amazing lectures, and is hilarious but still has lots of homework as Calculus isn't easy and good for practice. As we all switched to remote, we resorted to videos by Professor Leonard. She didn't really instruct at all these past 3 months. 45 questions MC for the final.
