He's fun to listen to and makes class enjoyable enough. There are books assigned to the course that you don't even need to read to get an A on the tests, since he gives you review sheets before each exam. Probably not a class you'll remember much in years to come, but still worth it if you need it.
Great professor! Tests are easy, if you have good attendance. If you don't go to class, you will not get an A.
An adjunct professor at HCC Town and Country. Mr. Rodgers is very nice. His tests are based on notes and an awesome review sheet. Two papers to write. Does not check roll, however, it helps if you attend class.
Very nice guy. Lectures are interesting, tests are easy. 2 papers require some work, but he is not too strict on grading them. I heard that he is leaving HCC after this semester though.
prof. rodgers was a cool guy and was pretty straightforward on tests and semester papers...i would recommend this class instead of literature....
good teacher, really wanted everyone to pass, test are amazingly easy, the readings are fun if you want to read them, did have a little bit of biased grading though
Ethics is a crazy subject and I believe the topics are pointless. With Mr. Rodgers you really don't even have to know what he is trying to explain. Just make sure you are familiar with the readings and write a paper that is pertaining to the topic and you will do fine. Great Teacher!!!
three papers and class participation were graded. first papers were hard to write but it got easier. really fair really funny
Very nice professor. Curves on tests and gives you a fair chance. Cute and funny. Recomend him for Philosophy classes!
He rules! He is cute, funny, helpful and very intellectual. Show your sincere work and you gonna' get an A.
he is an intelligent teacher. he makes the class so easy.
Great teaching style with honesty, sense of humor. Highly recommend.
easy nice teacher, just do your work he is not strict on grading essay papers, not a lot of work at all as I thought we would get, not strict about attendance, take him hes an easy A
very well spoken, humorous and helpful teacher. thoroughly enjoyed all of his classes.
I love............ Mr. Rodgers. This is the best I ever literally. I LEARNED SO MUCH IN THIS COURSE COPY THE BOARD TURN IN ALL ASSIGNMENTS ON TIME AND YOULL BE GOOD. i GOTTA A and never missed a class after i realized how great is.............
Great Teacher. Very intelligent guy. Just do the work that is assigned and you will be fine. Just make sure that you do all your disscussion and essays. We only had two essay papers and two exams. Go to class because alot of the lecture that you will document will be information that is very much needed for your exams. I got a B!
Mr. Rodgers is a very nice guy,but he can be kind of scary at times. He has a very strange sense of humor that leaves you no choice but to laugh. He's also kind of hard to understand because he is so intelligent, so if you are the kind of individual that needs an instructor to break things down to layman terms he's not the one for you.
GREAT GUY! he is super cute and funny!! Loads of notes but a EASY A!!!
easy A just by doing the work or assignments, idk how students got a B, its an easy A class.
He is way to smart for HCC. He relates things to TV shows and sports a lot. The reading is pretty tough but he grades easy. As long as you take notes and pay attention you are fine. His tests are open note! He has a morbid sense of humor he was very funny. He is a great teacher. Just take write everything he puts on the board and you will be fine.
Mr. Rogers made philosophy understandable. Be sure to copy his notes off the board & ask questions. He's also funny. His class had 5 easy in-class assignments, 5 Blackboard assignments (1 question each), 2 tests (midterm & final)-both had good reviews prior but WERE NOT OPEN NOTE, & 1 paper due on day of final. Would take him again. Good luck! :)
he is great prof. Everything is very easy to understand and he grades very easy. Fun class !!!
dont choose any other professor for phil. classes. HE MAKES LECTURES UNDERSTANDABLE and his test are fairly easy and short. the only thing is that he makes you do in class assignments in groups which kinds of sucks. no reason anybody cant get a B or above in his class really EASY!
This professor is awesome! He sets everything up for you to make good grade. His class is fun and he is adorable.
Wow!!! I loved his class! everything was really easy and his tests were short and to the point. Study your notes that he gives you in class and you will do great! Thanks Mr. Rodgers for the great semester!!
This would be my third time taking Mr. Rodgers (logic, philosophy and ethics) and he is the best. Classes are always entertaining and very interesting! Wouldnt take any other philosophy teacher at hcc!
HOW DO YOU NOT MAKE AN A IN THIS CLASS? EVEN IF YOU DON'T READ THE BOOKS, TAKE GOOD NOTES AND STUDY THE REVIEW FOR LIKE AN HOUR. AND YOU'LL GET AN A. HE IS HILARIOUS. I WOULD TAKE HIM FOR MORE PHIL. CLASSES, BUT THE SUBJECT HURTS MY HEAD TO MUCH.
What can we say about a philosopher ;D
Prof Lamont is a cool person in nature, and works well with his students. The only problem is his low pitched voice. One needs to sit closer to hear him. His in-class assignments are always group works which may help or affect your grades. Each book read had a final exam, and no cummulative. It worths trying. Best.
Easy class. Prof Rodgers is VERY soft spoken, so if you are hard of hearing sit close! If you attend class, take notes & do your reading you'll get a good grade. He is an easy grader. Usually a quiz everyday (one question that he asks from the reading you should have done the night before & it's usually from the 1st sentence) Lots of group work too
Took him didnt start off well but if you do the in class assignments and I also studies the in class question they are on the test! HE works with you gives extra credit started off bad but ended the class with an A! take him!
Great guy! Soft spoken, so sit in front. easy A!! Not bad to look at either. 12 quizzes, 3 test, 1 easy paper, final and some extra credit. Good luck!
Philosophy is hard, so are his readings but basic concepts are easy. He gives lots of extra credit. Exams are easy. No textbook. Term paper at end. He hates excuses, just do the work & don't miss class. 16 in class assignments 10 questions each. Very interesting class and easy A if you attend lectures, take notes, and dont over analyze everything.
All he does is lecture. Be in class because you need to know when the assignments and tests are, but his actual lectures aren't important. All the study guides are online and just know those and you'll be set on the tests. Quizzes every week and they're hard (you HAVE to cheat on them as 95% of the class does ). Not a hard class, but annoying.
Took this class for Spring 2016 and he was such a great professor. We took 3 tests the whole semester including the final, there are usually assignments every day in class after lectures that you can work in groups and do which are easy A grades. There is one term paper and he does give extra credit opportunities if you'd like. Highly recommended!
There is a lot of reading material, but he will briefly go over each one. If you are not sure about something he will explain it. The in-class assignments can be hard but you may work with other people to get the correct answers. Try to read the materials before class so you can be more familiar with the reading before he explains it.
3 easy exams, 1 term paper, and 13-16 in class work. Majority of grade comes from in class work that you can complete with other students & he drops about 3-6 of them. Assigns readings that can be lengthy, boring, and confusing. Most of the info you'll need to know will occur in the 1st 3 readings. His exams are straightforward. Pretty easy class.
Overall great professor. Lots of extra credit. Once you understand his In Class Assignment & Exam question style it gets easier. The reading assignments are often difficult reads but very interesting. It would help if he would email Power Points before lecture to take notes on. It helps tie in the many terms, ideas and concepts. Study notes!
He's nice and proper, speaks very low so sit in the front. His in class assignments were sometimes hard but u can do them in groups, and he posts the q's before class, they are timed. Couple assignments for extra credit. 1 term paper a little hard and not very clear with instructions but ok, 3 exams sort of easy. u like phil? take him, if not don't
Really great professor! You have 16 in class assignments where he takes the 10 highest as a grade and you can work with other members in your class on it. 3 exams and provides lots of extra credit. And one term paper. I learned a lot in his class and I would definitely take him again !
Great professor, easy grader, assignments not hard.
Overall he's a good professor. His class is really easy and to tests are to the point. he gives 3-4 extra credit to boost up your grade. he drops 6 in-class assignment and only counts highest 10 which is pretty awesome. i would definitely recommend him.
recommend this professor. 16 in class assignments, 3 test, extra credit and 1 term paper. real easy class. he gives reviews for each test; the only hard part for me was the term paper but other than that everything went great.
I took him for Logic I. Wow, this class is completely different from his Phil 1301. You better go on youtube because sometimes his explanations aren't clear. Once you don't understand Part A, It is almost impossible to understand anything beyond. You must STUDY and practice in order to get an A
I wouldn't say he is a bad professor, but some lectures are confusing. He lets you do most in-class assignments with people. Test are somewhat confusing, but overall you have to read a lot in the class and listening carefully, since he speaks softly. Sit in the front, since it is really hard to hear him.
He is a pretty good Introduction to Ethics teacher. If you study the vocab, you will do good on the quizzes. Make sure you read the articles he tells you to read. His class is laid back and is pretty easy. However, it is a bit boring and it can be hard to stay awake at times.
Great professor. In his class there is 16 in class assignments ( which he takes the top 10 of those), 3 tests (which he give a study review for each one) and one term paper. He also gives extra credit to boost your grade. Overall just take notes and read the reading online and you will do just fine.
The term paper is impossible to do since you'll have to apply all the course concepts that you have learned in there!! only 20 questions on the test. You will FAIL if you don't study because PHIL is hard! He doesn't curve but give xtra credit opportunities
Absolutely learned nothing from him. He seems easy but don't underestimate his tests if you don't study. If the lectures and in class assignments make sense to you in class then you won't have to work hard when it comes to exam. Otherwise you'll have to put extra efforts. 20 questions/tests and no finals. 3 tests and one 5 pages term paper.
In class assignment at the meeting of each class that covers the content of the previous class, open book, discuss freely, only count 10 highest. 3 exams including final. 1 term paper. Easy A? Yes and No. You need to understand all the philosophical concepts that he lectures in class
Good guy, pretty chilled. The main thing is try to understand the philosophical concepts, that all he tests on. There are about 15-16 in-class assignments. They are open book, collaborative, 10 questions. They are not difficult but the exams are actually simpler. One term paper, just try your best, he gives curves.
His class is honestly so boring. Take him if you need a PHIL credit because that will suffice, but his teaching style is very passive. He didn't seem to care about being in class and had a very nonchalant attitude about the class. The topics we discussed were really boring as well, so try to stay awake in class. His tests are pretty easy.
Awesome teacher for philosophy! At first it was a little confusing, but he does a great job explaining things. 2 tests for the summer semester and 1 essay. If you did well on the review you will make an A on the tests. Group work for in class assignments that you have every day. Very easy class to make an A in. He's also pretty funny!
easy A with no textbook. 1 term paper, 2 test , and 10 in class assignments. Just do good on the first 10 in class assignments and you wont have to show up to class for the rest of the term besides on test days and term paper due date.
Cracks me up with morbid jokes. Gives extra cred options, his lectures are interesting. Uses TONS of hilarious (yet morbid) examples to help you understand. quiet. a quick assignment every class meeting (group work, open article/note) tests are pretty easy, mult choice and true/false. took this class on a whim for the cred and love it. makes it fun
he is a nice professor, he make sure you read the subject, his test is fairly easy, i would recommend him
Professor Rodgers is a very unique instructor. Not many lectures and only 2 tests and 2 papers. Reading articles is like 90% of the course. In class assignments, essays, and tests are based off of the readings. For a person who doesn't like reading, the course was a little challenging. I took social and political philosophy and had to earn the A.
16 In class assignments that are open notes and can work in groups. He only takes the highest 10. One term paper, two exams and the final. Clear teaching method. Allows extra credit. Easy A if you come to class and do the assignments. Gives reviews for test which only have 20 questions.
Pretty nice professor for the most part. An in-class assignment is given at the start of every lecture, only 10 are graded. He also includes two exams, the final, and a term paper, but those are the only other major grades. Does give extra credit. BEWARE: he will NOT let you take an exam if you are late to class that day, so don't catch a flat.
didn't know what to expect when I walked into the class but it was really easy. he is a great professor and as long as you do the 10 assignments you are guaranted an A. The tests are fairly easy as long as you review the notes.
Hes honestly a sweetheart and so understanding his clas was so easy and hes always willing to help
The best professor EVER !!!!!!!! Im going to miss him and my class so much :( , he was so helpful and sooo nice ! Take him you wont regret it
Wow, what can I say? Im really going to miss my class and Professor Rodgers. He was so nice and he teachings matched the test, he gives extra credit! And hes so nice and understanding, the only way you wont make a good grade, is that if you dont show up! His classes arent usually that long either. but hes the best!
Very relaxed and chill professor. He has a nice sounding accent which personally makes me feel at ease. Although Philosophy is not a very interesting subject, his way of teaching as well as his funny yet macabre jokes makes the subject feel more fascinating.
I hold nothing against the professor himself, but his instruction for online class is lacking. There is no textbook. Just some written paragraphs, basic powerpoints, and third party videos. It's not enough to grasp the material in the way he expects it. Not a hard class, but expectations are kind of high for what you are given to work with.
Taking this class online was the mistake I have ever make in my life, I can't even advice my enemy to even try it. He has a limited materials as power point that one won't even see any meaningful topic in it. His questions are all true or false that sometimes are incorrect. He expects you to attend a program in person for his extra credit.
Taking this class in mini-semester was the worst mistake I ever made. His instruction for an online class is lacking. Just some written paragraphs, basic powerpoints, and third-party videos. It's not enough to grasp the material in the way he expects it. Hard class and expectations are high for what you are given to work with. DO NOT take him.
The online version of this class is really easy. There are 10 short quizzes and 3 discussion boards. The readings, videos, PowerPoints and practice quizzes take about an hour or so. He responds to emails really fast. The last assignment is not graded and I already have an A.
Rockin. Rollin. Into his class I was strollin. Everybody told me that he's the best teach. He gonna come and smarten your head. And he did. And he did. Someday when I am older, I will remember his smolder. Gonna use this knowledge to pass other classes like I told ya.
Professor Rogers is funny and knowledgeable. He is very soft spoken and I could barely hear him at all. He teaches short and simple lectures and is strict about turn in dates. He gives a few extra credit opportunities. No text book. He gives all his notes to you online.
Professor Rodgers is a really good professor. No textbook for the class, you have to read his notes online. Make sure you listen carefully because he tends to speak softly most of the time. Willing to help others. No late assignments accepted. Reviews for the tests are very similar to the actually test. Easy A for sure.
Everyday was pretty much the same thing come in, sit down, answer the 10 questions on the board (from the reading he puts on Canvas which are only like 2 paragr. long), grade it, lectures for 20-30 minutes, then free to go. Nothing in his class was difficult because he's not that hard to understand and figure out when learning his teaching style.
He is very witty and funny. Philosophy isn't really my thing but he's very good at teaching the concepts. He lets you collaborate on assignments but it's not mandatory. He gives you a lot of assignments which really helps your grade but he doesn't assign much homework. He's a stickler for punctuality. He posts grades immediately.
Come in, sit down, do your quiz of 10 questions, and listen to a lecture for the rest of the class. He usually dismisses a couple of minutes earlier than the time that is on the syllabus. The only complaint is that he has a VERY soft voice so if you are hard of hearing then sit in the front. Essay is not too hard. He handled COVID-19 very well.
Professor Rodgers is an interesting character. However I found this class to be extremely difficult, because there's multiple readings that don't make sense and then the next class you're required to take a quiz. The lectures did not make sense most of the time, and the tests and quizzes are very specific and makes you think.
He has not been helpful at all since the whole virus started. I thought he would be more understanding .
Great professor. You have quizzes to complete. one paper to write. He posts the ppt with a voice recording on each slide. Easy class if you read the material he posts. You don't need a textbook he provides the reading.
Online class. PPT w/ audio to help you understand the article he is talking about. Attendance is mandatory and he will go over the ppt/reading and always welcomes questions you may have about a lesson. Provides you with the readings and open note/book for quizzes. A final and a term paper is due at the end of the semester, which he offers to check.
Lazy professor. Expects you to understand his knowledge even if it's unclear. Does not care if you have problems during the pandemic. Does not extend assignments. Terribly careless and shrugs his shoulders when you cannot understand him. You are expected to know his syllabus by heart.
3 exams and an impossible essay final. Has zero consideration for his students. Assignments are still expected no matter what even during a blackout. Confusing and carelessly written instructions. Absolutely useless on explaining how to write a successful philosophy essay.
10 online quizzes u can take until you get a grade you like. open book and note. 3 tests open book and note. One term paper he spends 2 weeks preparing you for. He even gives comments on a rough draft. Emails reminders for deadlinesExtra credit. He met with me online on a weekend to discuss the material I didn't understand. Easy class. Great prof.
Not hard. Posts a syllabus so u can see deadlines. No need to memorize it. 10 quizzes can retake until u get high grade. Enforces deadlines but reminds u of them. Reads draft of term paper if u want. Discusses term paper writing a lot at the end. All tests open book. Extra credit for online conferences
LITERALLY THE WORST PROFESSOR EVER!!!!!DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR IF YOU ARE EXPECTING AN A. This man is inconsiderate and does not care about his students. He literally does not give good instructions and when you let him know about it, he blames you for it.
Fantastic professor. I genuinely enjoyed his lectures. If you stay mindful of his deadlines you will pass. Quizzes and tests are open note and you can take the quizzes an unlimited amount of times. The end of semester term paper was challenging and he did grade hard, but he gives you months to work on it and provides feedback before the due date.
Professor Rodgers, The class is a little slow, maybe because it is online. I wish I could have taken it in person. He seems like he cares about the subject, and I wish I could have talked to him more face to face. I would have got more out of the class.
I did all quizzes with a score of 100. And the term paper , he graded so tough and very strict that made my total go down to B. So the term paper is decided for your total grade in this class. So many students in the class had the same issues.
This class is easy, but your grade all depends on the term paper. For the quizzes you can't find the answers on the internet unless you have chegg. But this class is all about quizzes and the term paper. He is a tough grader so be careful on that term paper. The term paper is a 4-page paper. I would honestly take him again because it's easy.
Very sweet man, fairly easy if you understand philosophy. He's not the most clear with explanations though, and he wastes a lot of time. Does only student-lead reviews, but he lets you take the exams online as many times as you like. Tons of extra credit opportunities.
This class feels slow because there are only a few assignments graded. You can take the exams as many times as you like excluding the final. The term paper is the toughest part so if you're not a good writing I do not recommend this professor. Overall, he is a very nice professor and gives a lot of extra credit opportunities.
I took Dr. Rodgers class on line and he seems as the type of professor who is great in person. I wasnt interested in the material, so it was hard to grasp. Readings go hand in hand with powerpoint lectures, and all the answers for his quizzes are in the material. His term paper was difficult but he was willing to give feedback which helped!
I guess I'd just say...he's tough but not unfair.
Quizzes have unlimited attempts before due date. Tests have one attempt. No final exam. Term paper is worth 33.3% of grade. He will allow one rough draft in which he will literally tell you EVERYTHING you need to fix with your paper. I would take him again. And he answers emails promptly.
He is an okay professor. Your test and quizzes are unlimited attempts but the way he grades the terms papers are ridiculous. I personally would not take him again for this reason.
Responds to emails quickly, very communicative, but the term paper is hard and worth a large part of final grade so no getting past it.
Professor Rodgers is one of those professors who you'll never forget. He is passionate about the subject he teaches and cares about whether or not students are understanding the material being presented. If I could take more classes from him, I definitely would. If you are taking any Philosophy course at HCC, Professor Rodgers is your guy.
Very easy, respectful, laid back professor. Clearly outlines what he expects in his class. 3 exams and 10 gateway quizzes will make up your grade. No final and all assignments do not require lockdown browser and have unlimited attempts. There is a term paper due at end of semester that is difficult, other than that the class is easy.
Professor Rodgers is probably the easiest and most laid-back professor you'll find. Took his online Phil1301 class and there is only 10 quizzes and 3 exams. All of the quizzes AND exams were true or false questions with multiple attempts. I think that's really all anyone needs to know to take this professor. Also a term paper but its super easy.
he only grades the term paper tough, but everything else was super easy. he does take attendance, but if you miss a class he has materials on canvas to catch up. i did not understand philosophy until i came to his class and you can definitely tell he knows what he is talking about. he also makes a lot of dad jokes but they are very funny
He makes it majorly known at the beginning and throughout the semester that it is your responsibility to pass the class and will not give any handouts to any students. Checks in weekly with the class through email. Extra credit. You have to work for your grade. Rough towards the end but somewhat manageable overall
Easiest class ever, he's really easy going. Test & quizzes very easy. Only hard thing about this class was the term paper, he does go over it in class and is very open to helping. Lectures were very light. The most un stressful class I've taken.
Dr Rodgers was such an amazing professor, he genuinely loves his job and you can really see it in his lectures and the way he teaches. For PHIL 1301, you are required to write a term paper, so if you're not up to that, don't take this course. If you want a teacher that cares about his students and wants you to succeed, take Dr Rodgers.
Not a terrible professor. He doesn't care about attendance, but he is strict on deadlines. However, most of the assignments are available for a significant amount of time. He's a very easy-going professor. very easy. you only have to write one 4-page paper.
Take him. Easy A if you try and turn in work on time. Pros: unlimited attempts for everything with no lockdown browser, everything is just T/F, 1 term paper. Cons: term paper is 4 pages minimum with confusing topics, questions are made up by him which can also get confusing, if you don't do term paper you get an F for the class
Fairly easy class if you stay on top of the quizzes and term paper. Rodgers is a lenient grader, but the term paper is tricky. unstuck study was a lifesaver for prepping.
His class is easy as long as you are caught up on the quizzes and the term paper. All the quizzes are online with no lockdown browser, which is great; however, the term paper is pretty tricky, with having to write 4 pages minimum with confusing topics, but luckily, he's a lenient grader. He was the most chill professor I've ever had.
I would highly recommend this professor. It was an easy A for me. Like others have stated, as long as you stay on track with due dates and complete the assignments you will be good to go.
Barely responds her emails through canvas and she only started responding to my emails after the grades were submitted at the end of the semester. Horrible instructor i will never recommend anyone to take her classes.
This course is well-organized and very straightforward. Dr. Rodgers' slides are informative and he's low-key hilarious. There are a couple quizzes and an exam for each unit—all open book, open note, and no LockDown Browser. You'll need to write a term paper for the final, but the criteria is clear and Dr. Rodgers grades fairly—highly recommend.
Great professor especially for a summer course. Lays out videos for each part of the course. You will read a decent amount and at the end of the course will write an essay. He has a sense of humor which makes his class intriguing. Overall, he is a great professor for philosophy.
Professor Rodgers is the nicest professor ever. He made learning Philosophy so easy. He gives great tips and offers help whenever people need it. If you aren't able to make class he understands. His class is very lecture heavy, but he has the notes on canvas so if you miss then it won't be as bad. You can pick it back up whenever.
Easy A class with chill attendance. His lectures are clear and engaging, and he's cool asf. A couple of easy quizzes keep you on track, but most of the grade comes from the term paper, so put effort into that. Overall, a fun class, low-stress, and highly recommended if you want to learn without pressure. Golden retriever energy lol
I loved taking this class, and I thought I would hate philosophy. I took this as an "online anytime," and the canvas page was laid out very well. We were allowed to take the quizzes as many times as we wanted, so it was pretty easy to get a 100 on them. He wrote his own material which was an easy and entertaining read. Smart guy and great teacher!
