feminist. seems like the essays ive done were related to feminism. doesnt let you choose your own topic for essays making it a little more difficult. lectures are clear and understandable. is a slightly chatty but it helps a little to motivate the class.

very nice teacher, clear, funny, friendly. She will give a lot of reading assignment, which you don't have to read, because whe will go over everything in class. Her class was fun, not boring at all. You should be a fairly good writer to get an A. She looks at the structure of your essay, more than grammar.

get on her good side by pretending you did the reading. show her your essay b4 you turn it in and watch your grammar. be very opinionated in your essay and the A is yours!

Prof. Phillips is funny and nice. Somewhat of a hard grader when it comes to mispelled words. The only thing that i don't like is that she goes fast. My head starts to spin with all these rules.

She's the BEST Eng 1 professor in SMC! Not much hw and readings than other Eng. prof demand. She's funny and always likes to hear jokes from students! Just remember to relate personal experience w/ ur essay and be careful of the grammar, you'll be good thru the semester. I'm an int. student here in SMC, still, i got an A+ for 1 of my essays.

She's funny and she makes the class fun. She really doesn't expect too much either. You can be late and she won't even trip.

Awesome teacher. Great class to take. Not too challenging, but definitely not easy. Talks a little too much, but it's ok. Not much homework. A little lenient, but still expects you to write a good paper. Stress free class if you like English. Wish I was able to take this teacher again.

Really easy, really nice, and really understanding. Wrote 3 out of class essays total, 1 midterm and final essay. EASY A. Boring lectures, but well worth the easiness of the class. Left class every break and missed at least 4 classes and ended up with a HIGH B! I definetly recommend her.

Miss. Phillips is an extremely nice teacher. She's a little more strict during the regular semester. She WILL drop you if you miss more then 2 classes. I HATE English but she made it a little easier. She tells you exactly what she is looking for in the essays. I would take her again for Eng 1 if she taught it in the evening.

It is hard to survive her class. She has set too high standards and you must be a great writer to make it. Esl students were all worried cause theyve been getting confused for the past weeks. too bad they'll fail the class. Two word description: Disappointed and Unhappy. I dropped this class. I ended up chosing this class because all others were full. I was offended a few times from certain class discussions and things she brought up. She leans more toward the feminist side. ADVICE: Be prepared and know how to write an essay! Emphasis is mainly grammer NOT on essays.

She's so nice. Teaches you English with a great style. 2take home essays, 1 in class essay, and a final essay with research paper. She's so lovely and tries to help you with everything. She answers every question, and help you to get the concept fully. TAKE HER!! SHE'S GREAT!!

1st class comes off a bit strict, after that its a fun easy class. Very clear, a few essays, its an English class. Nice personality. Knows her stuff, takes time to make sure all students understand what shes teaching. will DEFINITELY take her again.

Took her for Winter2013. Her class is extremely fun, enjoyable and atmosphere is very lively. She likes to chat too. Very helpful and approachable when you have problems or stuck on writting. However, she grade essays like murdering.espec in a 5 week class, where everythings crammed. I passed it but learnt alot in her class.

I also took her class Winter 2013. She is really amazing teacher!! I enjoyed her class:) She exactly tells us what she wants to see in our paper or her thoughts, so I think it was kind of easy to get "A".

I will be 100% truthful. when i started, first class she came off so ridiculous! Unclear! Nuts! But the reviews were mostly good so I stuck by. Now 1 week left in semester and I absolutely love this prof. Phillips is so nice. You can tell she has a good heart and wants go help you. She does ramble off topic, A LOT! But she is hilarious at times.

Prof Phillips is such a good person! So helpful and so kind. She wants to help and wants you to learn! In the beginning she comes off sort of all over the place and talks a lot but she really grows on you and by the end of the class you are laughing at all her jokes.You def need the book and there is a presentation and term paper!

Professor Phillips is the best! I took her summer English 1 class and it was wonderful. As long as you keep up with the assigned readings and answer the chapter questions (that are optional), you will excel in the midterm and final. Prof. Phillips is very helpful w assignments and her lectures are fun and interactive. A must-take!

Very nice teacher. Her assignments are pretty easy. She doesn't grade that hard on the essays. Overall, a fairly easy class. (she's an ESL teacher so she cares a lot about grammatical errors.)

Her assignments were not hard and she is very understanding and helpful. I loved her class . Only thing I never got was the grade on my research paper, which was kinda annoying. But other than that I would take her again!

She is a really nice teacher. Go to her office hours for help on ANYTHING. This class is ALL ESSAYS Some in class, some at home. I would say about 5 at home (and 10 page research paper), and 3 in class (including final essay). She assigns hw reading, but no one reads ever. She will drop you if you are a no show. Make up an excuse to leave class :)

She assigns reading to the book BRAVE NEW WORLD, but barely anyone reads. Only need to sparknote it before the in class final on "Manipulation" from the book. Make up an excuse to leave or skip class (Family, work, illness) She is super nice, easy and a fair essay grader. IF YOU CAN WRITE DECENT ESSAYS, YOU WILL GET AN A WITH A BREEZE.

Loved her class! Took her 8 week course which was pretty doable. She gives out extensions if you just ask, shes really understanding. Assigns interesting assignments. Couple of essays, discussion post, and research paper. She provides good feedback as well!

She gives extensions if needed and is very understanding. She does give a lot of reading out so beware, but this is an english course the reading should be expected. There's a 10 page research paper at the end.

Considering this is an ENG course, it should be no surprise that there is plenty of reading. Prof. Phillips is a sweetheart and is very understanding. She explains directions clearly in her zooms and offers specific rubrics for papers. Be prepared for discussions, content checks, and essays! Reach out to her if anything, she is accommodating!

As much as this class is a lot of work, none of it was hard. For an English class, I enjoyed the topics that we touched on. For essays, follow the prompt and you will get a hundred percent. You have an essay or rough draft once a week and reading. Class is weighted more towards essays and discussions so the little quizzes dont matter.

Prof. Phillips is chill but her class requires A LOT of time. There are discussions or content checks every week, 3 quizzes, 4 essays (3 1/2 pages min.), and an 8-page research paper. Don't skip the essays since they weigh more and she is honestly lenient with grading, she looks for quality over quantity, she'll dock a few points for other errors.

Very kind teacher. I'd just be prepared for lots and lots of reading. Follow the prompts for the essays and discussion posts and you'll pass with a high grade. :)

Ms. Phillips was an excellent teacher and provided engaging materials as well as a good pick for the book that was the central focus of our class. She taught a plethora of material with ease and she responded promptly to all emails. I really enjoyed her course, and would reccomend it to anyone needing an English 2 credit.
