much homework and reading to do within a week and lots of group projects. lance was a first time teacher this year but there was still a lot that we had to do. sometimes instructions were also vague and a lot of information to intake. there is midterm and final - which was open book and then one was a essay prompt. nice professor but a little weird
Lance is great. A very likable guy. He is the combination between spencer reid and bill hader. Tests were hard but were curved and little percentage of grade. I was nervous for the class but almost got an A and I suck at reading and taking notes.
So much reading and pre class assignments on perusall that took forever on top of a term long project with weekly assignments and 2 in class assignments each week that are impossible to make full credit if you miss. Also the material is extremely repetitive and irrelevant to the real world.
SO much class preparation/reading, and the term project will make you want to drop the class. Lance is great, his class is just a super heavy course load. he's very suspicious of AI gen work beware. I would take Lance again if it wasn't for this class.
If you can still do global context do it. This class was meant to alleviate the burden of global context but a greater one was created by a professor who think everyone is into the class as much as he is. There is an immense amount of reading and writing that is heavily scrutinized. Also topics are irrelevant and incredibly dense.
He grades super by the letter and your are taking a glorified English course taught by a professor with no outside experience from the University setting. If you enjoy writing meaningless extensive discussion posts take this class.
You will be hand cuffed to this subject for your entire term. There is not another class in the business major with more reading and busy work. Id wait until anyone else teaches this course or do global context if possible. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
By far the most onerous class that I've taken in the entire business course. You will be forced to read so many irrelevant articles then write responses in discussion forums. Hours of dry reading and videos before each class. Lectures are equally dry and drawn out. The most anxiety inducing class ever.
This class reeks of being taught by an academic rather than a professor with any real world experience. There is way too many readings unrelated to class material. Lectures feel like pulling teeth as you are just rambled at for over an hour. There is terrible communication with students on assignments and structure of the exams.
Lance is a caring guy and definitely cares a ton about the subject of sustainability. The course-load is horrendous and your 4 credit hours should be 8. Would advise one to not take this course with him and wait on someone else.
Lance assigns too much work. We have 2 weekly Perusall assignments with around 3-7 articles each, a term paper/project, a midterm and a final with a multiple-choice and an essay section. For the exams, we get one sheet of paper (one-sided) and an unhelpful study guide. We also can't use technology for in-class notes, it must be handwritten.
Lance is super nice and does a good job teaching. Sometimes lectures are boring, but I enjoy learning the topics he teachers and can tell is very knowledgable in each topic.
Lance is a cool guy. He's passionate about what he teaches. His course requires a lot of commitment but he is a reasonable professor. His accommodations to students are nice, but class wide extensions are rare. Good syllabus policies.
Lance was very passionate about the material he teaches. Some of which is interesting, some not. There are both a midterm, final, and large final paper. Weekly there is busy work which isn't too hard. Not too bad of a class overall.
Very kind Professor, course load was a bit heavy at times.
Great professor! Enjoyed the class!
I think the class was good but maybe a bit homework and reading heavy
All notes must be handwritten. He assigns too much homework. This is not a back burner class. Wouldn't recomend.
He was a decent teacher, but the pre-lecture readings could be anywhere from 5-10 articles and papers that could be as long as 18 pages. So it could take anywhere from 1-3 hours and it was before every class.
While I recognize their passion for this subject, it did not translate over to their teaching of the course.
All of the other negative reviews are baffling to me. While the course does require some outside work, it is not as difficult as people are making it out to be. The lectures are not the most entertaining, and the structure of the course could be improved; however, Lance cares about his students and genuinely wants everyone to learn.
Lance is a very nice guy but this class is a ton of busy work. He is a good teacher but boring lectures. Hard
lots of pre assignment work but easy if you come to class and do your work
Lance was difficult but nice. Tough but forgiving. Class was homework heavy for sure. Also a lot of in class activities. Would take again but it's a commitment.
I love Lance. His course content is really interesting and his delivery makes class enjoyable. He is personable and I like his sarcasm. His class was assignment heavy but nothing unmanageable and he does a great job at making his content digestible. Definitely recommend taking one of his classes.
Lance is great! The workload is balanced to keep students engaged. The class includes two weekly readings with responses due before sessions and post-class assignments, often with time in class to complete them. The term project is broken into manageable checkpoints. This course offers valuable insights and knowledge. Do the work and you'll be fine
Lance was awful --- not as a person, but just as a teacher! He doesn't give helpful or clear feedback, which makes it extremely difficult to understand what is expected or how to improve. On top of that, the workload he assigns is very overwhelming and doesn't seem balanced with the time we have to complete it. Would not take again...
Lance is a great guy but wasn't my fav professor. There's 2 perusals a week with 4-10 different lengthy articles. You do lots of 'group work' and it seems somewhat lazy how much peer review we do instead of him grading our work. This course is definitely teaching very important information but not always in the most digestible way.
This class is difficult. It seems that many other students came into this reading "Fundamentals for Sustainable Business" and assumed it would be an easy A to replace their Global Context. This is a 300 level course and is treated like it. Lance is a great teacher that pushes participation and the content is fascinating, but has a heavy work load.
Lance is a nice guy but does not know how to teach or be reasonable with the student's workload. He assigns too many pre-lecture readings and has us do more assignments than necessary. Exams could be clearer and more specific, with more study materials to prepare. The term project was way too much work, though it is spaced out nicely.
Lance is a great person and professor, but the workload for this class was unnecessarily large and mainly consisting of busy work and readings. It is made hard to miss a class or catch up because while you get two excused absenses, the makeup work is significantly harder than just going to class. That being said, its an okay class.
terrible read out powerpoints and expect students to understand everything from his thousand-worded powerpoint slides pre lecture readings are also incredibly long overall a lazy lecturer
Lance is a fun teacher for this class because he is very passionate about the course material. This passion made me more interested in sustainability and how it affects our world. There is a larger amount of pre-class reading than most people would want to do, but the related assignments are not difficult. It is nice working with teams in class.
Lance is extremely knowledgable about sustainable business and really helps students learn. Occassionally, you find something in a set of instructions or assignment that isn't working or doesn't make sense but Lance is always quick to clarify and/or fix things. The grading weighting of the course helps you learn without stressing too.
He mostly reads off the slides instead of teaching. A lot of homework, was hard to manage with other classes.
Lots of pre-class reading materials on Perusall. Small amounts of group work every day that is actually rather helpful. Lance relies heavily on class participation (not graded) but if there's no active students it can be a bit awkward. A midterm, final, two case analysis assignments and a term long research paper - adds up HEAVILY.
Lance was a good professor. Every week was organized the same - Pre lecture, Lecture, Discussion post. Cheat sheet allowed for exams. Grading was done fairly. Accepts late work anytime with an at most 30% reduction. Only downside is I found the weekly discussions to be repetitive and time consuming.
Lance is really nice and provides clear instructions and good lectures. However, this course has a very heavy workload. There are a lot of assignments and readings each week plus a difficult midterm which you take in person. If you have to take this class, Lance is a good professor to have.
A great teacher who cares about the content. The online version was filled with busy work with a quiz, reading assignments, and discussions due every 3 days.
Lance is a good professor who gives clear instructions and helpful lecture videos/quizzes. But, the class is a lot of work, with weekly assignments, lots of reading, group papers, and an in-person midterm and final. Lance is a good teacher to have and applies current business practices to the material being taught.
He is very relaxed and understanding, very easy class as long as you go to class.
BA 322 online was incredibly demanding. For an online course, the workload each week was intense and time-consuming. Lance seems like an understanding professor, but the course structure made it a struggle. At least he took midterm feedback into account and reduced the workload—though it still felt overwhelming.
If you space out your work and spread it out throughout the week, the class is not to hard. If you save all the work for the day it is due, it feels like a lot. The teacher is very understanding and gives feedback on all assignments.
There is a lot of work to be done fore every module however, the proffessor noted this middle of the term and made appropriate changes which was really impressive.
Lance is very understanding and wants whats best for students. There is a very large amount of work due every week and the midterm and final are very challenging. You must read all the articles if you want to do good on the tests. You get to watch a Instagram Reel before almost every class which is fun. Class is Mandatory and worth a lot of points.
This class wasn't too hard. We had pre lecture assignments on perusall, in class lectures, and a post lecture activity you did with a group. Lance is very understanding and passionate. Midterms and Final are a bit difficult but not a huge part of your grade.
I was overall happy with the class. There was a lot of reading for pre-class prep but overall was not too bad. Lectures were concise and interesting and used good example to illustrate points.
Lance is a very nice and caring professor. Very lecture/homework heavy though, so be ready to spend a lot of time working for this class. Tests/Quizzes could use some refining/clarification as well, half the time I couldn't understand what the question was asking.
Lance is a thoughtful and supportive professor who cares about his students. However, the class leans heavily on tests and quizzes, which can be confusing at times due to unclear questions. Expect a heavy workload with plenty of homework. While he's helpful, the exam wording could be improved for better understanding
As long as you come to class and do the work this class shouldn't be too hard. Warning that if you miss a lecture you will have to do a makeup lecture that is way more difficult than just going. Also the tests can be a bit difficult but the final project is interesting. Also Lance is a very funny teacher and very interesting to learn from!
Lance is a great professor and is passionate about what he is teaching which makes it a lot easier to learn. I think that the readings can be a bit long but other than that straight forward class.
While a little disorganized at times, it is clear that Lance cares about the course content and about his students. I learned a lot in this class. There is constant group work, a decent amount of reading before each class, and the test questions can be a little confusing.
Lance was a cool guy. He was funny and engaging in lectures while delivering really important information about sustainability. He even watched an instagram reel about sustainability each class to get us going. Super caring and supportive dude.
Lance is a good professor and the class isn't too bad if you show up and do the readings. Lots of group work.
Professor clearly cares about the topics in the course deeply, instructions are often wordy and unclear. Be prepared for group projects for online classes, which I found super difficult and had very little time given to work on the group projects. Be ready to read a lot for the assignments. Lots of work at the end of the term.
Lance clearly cares about the content he is teaching, and that comes through during each lecture. There were preclass readings but all were manageable(15-20 minutes total). He was super open to feedback from students and dropped multiple assignments due to concerns about the workload. I took the class online, but would still highly recommend Lance.
This professor provides an information-dense course with a fast-paced workload. Each week includes two due dates with a pre-lecture assignment, lecture videos with a quiz, and a post-lecture discussion. While well-organized, much of the grade is weighted toward the final week, making time management crucial to keep up and avoid last-minute stress.
Lance clearly cares about the subject matter, and it's an important topic to understand in depth. However, the online course structure leaves little flexibility to move through the material quickly. You're required to watch the full lecture videos, etc. Theres a lot of reading, and assignments, which will take a minimum of two hours to complete.
This course has a decent workload but nothing out of the ordinary for an upper division class. Professor Gabrielsen provides in depth feedback and is willing to work with you when you want to improve. He wants to see you succeed! Setting up meetings over teams with him was simple.
Took MGMT 250 but that wasn't an option for course code. He clearly did not want to be there. He read directly from the slides that some other professor made and also used their quizzes that had outdated answers to the questions. Tough grader for in class writing assignments and discussion questions while unclear with his feedback for improvement.
Grading material is highly subjective, choice answer questions will have have similar answers without much clarity on which is correct with certainty. Expect heavy reading followed by meaningless lectures accompanied with questions that do not have clearly defined answers. Written answers are subjective, graded on grammar, insight, and conciseness.
The BA322 online course is redundant, taking the required BA325 covers all the necessary learning. Assignments are reading heavy, lecture are unclear, and assignments are unclear. Lectures have typos and often don't give necessary information to answer questions later. Question answers are unclear, no clear definitive correct answer choice.
Term project leaves little guidance. Make sure to fully utilize AI for grammatical mistakes and conciseness as it is a big grade for some reason. (make sure to cite AI). No guidance on navigating official reports from businesses.
His online lectures are not fully rehearsed. about 25% of it is him say uh, uhm, pausing, then correcting himself. It seems like the previous comments agree on the unclear quiz questions and quiz answers. He does not show the correct answer or show any follow up to facilitate learning from the quizzes (a passage reference would be nice).
Professor Gabrielson gets a bad rep for no reason! His classes are interesting and make you think beyond what you already know. Main grades come from paper and presentation (no midterm or final, only for mgmt 422). Very caring and wanting to expand students knowledge.
BA322 online was more work intensive for what an Aync usually entails. Work has same structure each week and as long as you have decent time management its really not that bad. The lecture videos however can be long and redundant when given other slides and information. Quizzes you cannot go back to questions and finals are still in testing center.
Each class follows the same flow. Perusal before each class, in class group work, midterm and final with note sheet.
Class follows the same format every time, which is fine because for the most part the material is engaging. Lance is a very nice professor who is also accommodating of his students needs.
The class follows the same outline for the whole term for the asynchronous class. Weekly assignments due Wednesday and Friday help to keep a routine. However, the midterm and final are both in-person and are way more difficult than the class material. Definitely take online though.
Important to attend class, but he is understanding and extensions can be made.
This class with Lance was informative and I learned a lot. This class takes a lot of time but it is not very hard to do well if you put in a lot of effort. Only thing that can be frustrating is how long it takes to get grades back. Really try hard on assignments because you won't know your real grade for the class for several weeks.
Lance is a nice guy and very passionate about what he is teaching. There is a bit of reading and prep work that goes into each class, and then almost every class has a group activity based on the content of the lecture, so there are a lot of assignments. Though, most of the grade is reliant on the term project and exams.
most of course in on term project. the weekly work is just reading 3-6 texts plus videos.
Decent amount of reading, but otherwise pretty straightforward.
Lance is a Great person he honestly tries to benefit his students as much as he can. The class can be a little strict sometimes, this class is usually offered fully async but in person attendance is mandatory and you only get 2 absences and you have to inform him PRIOR. You will then have to do the lesson for the class you miss online which is hard
Lance is a great person who is super knowledgeable and passionate about the material he teaches. On the other side of that coin, a lot of homework and work is assigned in his class. He can be a tough grader, but also gives really good feedback that helps a lot with direction on future assignments.
Great teacher, just grades kinda hard on certain assignments, but super generous late policy and it wasn't a horrible amount of work per week.
This class was a ton of busy work and was a bit redundant. Was not a horrible class or professor just would not take again.
Professor Lance's class is homework-heavy with lots of reading, but the lectures are packed with practical sustainability insights. As a 45-year-old entrepreneur and first-time college student, I found the course truly life-changing and inspiring. Highly recommend if you want real-world impact! If you put in the effort, you'll get so much in return
This class was very informative and important to learn about, especially in today's society. With that said, the class itself when taken online was full of a lot of busy work due twice or more a week. Be prepared to spend roughly 4-6 hours a week on this class. Not too bad, but it eventually gets repetitive. Teacher seemed chill.
Professor Gabrielsen is nice and helpful, though a bit awkward to approach. The class requires a lot of reading and some paid articles. Group work is a major part—after each lecture, you're randomly assigned a new group for an assignment. If you're not a fan of daily collaboration, this class might not be a good fit.
I took this class online. It wasn't particularly difficult, but there was a lot of busy work and you will be spending hours on the readings on Perusal and the reflections. The content is interesting and the professor grades fairly.
The classes are built so he lectures for the first 50 minutes - 1 hour and then everyone breaks off into a group project over the class material he just went over. The midterm and final are both pretty difficult. Each exam is broken up into a multiple-choice and essay response sections. Overall I would say the material is enjoyable.
If you're looking for a well structured ASYNC online business class, then this is perfect. Lance lays out weekly requirements and its always very consistent. The assignments are clear and his feedback is great. The final paper isn't daunting because of the smaller assignments throughout the term. He really helps guide you through it.
This class was engaging and very informational. The assignments for online classes included reading/video materials to prepare for the lecture videos and quizzes, and a discussion at the end of the week. Smaller assignments allowed you to complete the final paper with ease. He clearly states the grading policy and what is expected in assignments.
If taken online there was a lot of work you had to do weekly, two assignments that took around 2 hours 3 times a week. The lecture quizzes were not my favorite but if you paid attention to his lectures then you would get to the right answer usually. He is a fast communicator when emailed.
Wouldn't take this class or any of his classes again online. Seems like he would have been better in person
I took this class online, and I would say it feels very disconnected. Things are graded almost 2 weeks after you have done it, as I have taken the midterm about 1.5 weeks ago, and it's still not graded. He grades very hard on certain assignments that I felt met the criteria and more. Hard exam is not like the practice at all.
Final exam is tomorrow and he has not graded any assignment since our midterm exam, including the paper worth 30%... good luck figuring out where you stand in this class. I did like that he recorded video lectures and instructions to assignments. Not the friendliest or most helpful when reaching out over email though.
Asks you to respond to detailed prompts on essays/finals but expects you to answer the question in very few words. You'll get marked down for not being specific enough, but if you try to be more specific you go over the word count and get marked down anyways. He just a terrible grader for essays.
Class material is easy to understand but Lance truly is the most confusing grader. He grades based on a "moving target" - this means that "each assignment is graded relative to what other peers turned in, so it's hard to explain what I'm looking for". This is so impossible to work with, and results in bad grades for hard work.
