Bro. Nelson is one of the best teachers I've had. His explanations are very clear and he brings demos to class to help improve your understanding. He is willing to work with you on a one-on-one basis and is very patient with you when you don't understand something. He also allows test corrections after every exam but the final.
Incredibly helpful. Understands materials inside and out and teaches it in many different way. Brings object lessons/experiments to class frequently. One day lecture/next day homework. If you have any issues and are falling behind, talk to him, he WILL work with you. One of the best professors I've had...EVER!
He is the best teacher I have ever had in my college career. He will work with you so that you can understand, and he is willing to give extra credit problems even if they are very difficult. Hands down best teacher and overall a good guy.
Prof. Nelson you a lot and teaches things very clearly. He is very concerned with how you learn the physics principles behind the problem. Will always invite you to ask him for help (in classroom or office). You can re-do questions you got wrong for half credit on your tests. His class lectures are good and clear. Great teacher! Highly recommend.
More than willing to help anyone. Such an incredible individual and teacher. I enjoyed how patience he is with the class and how knowledgeable he is in physics. I liked in particular that he gives test corrections and gives you half credit back, helps me retain more information. Awesome class! Incrediable teacher!!
Brother Nelson is a fine professor. I took him for lab and he was really fair with his grading and was willing to help out on the assignments. My biggest complaint is that he is pretty boring and does not really instill a love for the topic in his students, but he is an easy A for the lab.
Probably one of the best instructors I've had in school. He is there for you, and if you do not understand something he will find a way to explain it so you do. He does one day lecture, next day homework in class. The work is challenging but he is there to help. He completely understands the material and will help you do the same.
Brother Nelson doesn't just help students, he goes above and beyond, he tries his best to make every class interesting, when a student needs help or an issue, he drops everything to make sure that he has done everything and more to ensure they are getting all the help they need to make the most of their education opportunity. He's amazing.
Will help people no matter how much time it takes him, he is tough, but if you work hard he will work even harder to help.
he is a fantastic professor. highly recommend to take him. he will always help if you need it. Extremly helpful!!
This guy is awesome. He is a very inspirational person who really understands what he teaches. He is very helpful, always available and always makes time for his students. Expect to work and learn. He nevers assigns or asks the students to do anything unless it is necessary for them to learn. Probably some of the easiest homework from a professor.
This was one of the worst classes I have taken in the physics department. Bro. Nelson's lectures are unclear and unhelpful. Worse still, his tests are based off of questions he found online, so often times don't really connect with the homework and lectures. His tests are mostly multiple choice, which is really rough for a physics class.
This man is amazing. Not only does he know his stuff, he knows it in such a way that he can explain it so any level of student can understand. Pretty easy to get a good grade, but tons of opportunities to learn a lot if you want to. The university is very lucky to have him around.
He would have us read the chapter, talk about it for 20 minutes a week, and then the rest of the time we would have to write programs. Sounds fine, right? Well, most of us had no idea what we were doing, hence why we take the class. He would then blame us for taking up all his time asking for help for why he couldn't get any grading done. Get a TA.
You can really tell that he wants to help you learn the most. Homework is entirely honest-based, but it will bite you on the quiz if you lie. He reworked the class and quizzes a couple times to help us learn better. Definitely my favorite teacher in the whole Physics department.
Not a hard class, but a frustrating one. He doesn't really take much time to explain things, and kind of expects you to figure them out without really any guidance, which makes some of the more difficult projects nearly impossible without help. He reworked the class to try to deal with that, but I generally don't enjoy his classes.
Bro Nelson teaches clearly and is very willing to help you during class or at his office. No exams, just weekly quizzes. These are 45 % of the grade. Still tough quizzes. He doesn't want students to cram for an exam, hence weekly quizzes to continually test your knowledge. I'm not good at physics, but Bro Nelson's class was the best for my learning
Brother Nelson is one of the most genuine teachers I've ever had. Almost every single class period he stayed after and answered individual students questions until everyone was was helped. His class wasn't easy, but it was very manageable. My class had no tests, just weekly quizzes (which were still pretty difficult) which worked better for me.
Brother Nelson truly cares about all of his students. You can talk to him anytime and his class is set up on where most of your work is self graded. You have to do your part in reading for an hour every other day, taking small quizzes, and a weekly homework assignment. It was a great way to learn and as easy as I made it.
Honestly Brother Nelson is an incredible teacher and one of the best I have had. He really cares about his students and will do anything to help you succeed. He will take time to answer questions inside and outside of class so take advantage of that. He will do all he can to help you learn the material and not worry so much about succeeding.
Brother Nelson is great. The material can be really hard for those who don't understand it, and the class moves at a faster pace, but he is always willing to make sure that you understand it. He doesn't do very many, if any, exams or tests in the testing center and he lets you turn in corrections on quizzes so that you get credit for your work.
Brother Nelson is definitely one of the best professors that I have ever had. He really cares about his students and their academic progression. He is willing to work with his students so that they understand the concepts. His curriculum is based off weekly quizzes that are relatively difficult but he counts partial credit and is eager to work w/ u
Brother Nelson is one of the good ones at this school. If you have a chance to take one of the physics classes from him. If you see that he isn't teaching it that semester, wait to take it from him. He is incredibly kind, gives clear feedback, and knows how to help you learn.
Brother Nelson was a fantastic teacher. There are weekly quizzes to help you remember everything worth 50% of your grade. You do homework every other day in class. He helps you understand everything when you are confused. He is very invested in the quality of your education. He really wants you to do well.
Very caring and generous teacher. Will help you in every way possible. Class does require a lot of work but I do feel like I learned a lot. cant say enough good
Amazing lecture. Good at answering students questions. The workday system works perfectly in my experiences.
L. Nelson is a great teacher. He works hard to answer questions even when they are outside his wheelhouse (I got several emails containing answers he had researched to answer a question asked in class). The assignments teach the concepts and he encourages you to work on it as a group. I've taken 3 classes from him and learned a ton each time.
Brother Nelson is a solid choice for Physics 121, he cares a lot about student success and is willing to help all the time. The numerical problems, coding, was also really fun to learn. Overall really caring guy who wants to see you succeed.
Hardest part is that it is difficult to do homework in quizzes based off his lectures alone. I got very little from his lectures. Also, the mandatory use of python is detrimental to this class unless you are going to be a programmer. I am not a fan of typing coding without any training on how to do it. Would not recommend taking class unless uhav2
Brother Nelson was hands down the best teacher I've ever had. The class wasn't easy but also wasn't hard for a physics class. His style of homework allows you to choose which problems you need to practice to help you best learn the material and if you do extra homework he boosts your weekly quiz grades. Loved his lectures, they focused on concepts.
Best Physics professor I've had so far. Always available and willing to answer questions. Allows you to actually understand the material by letting you choose your own homework questions and giving a quiz every week. SUPER generous with partial credit too. No exams except the final. Honestly, TAKE A PHYSICS CLASS FROM HIM. You won't regret it .
Brother Nelson is one of my absolute favorite professors I have ever had. I was hesitant at first for how much programming I was not too eager to learn. However, as I progressed in the course, Brother Nelson helped me to understand how useful it can be. I could not be happier for how welcomed I felt in his class. Couldn't recommend him more.
Bro. Nelson is an awesome professor, he really wants you to succeed. There is reading quizzes, and hw but if you show up to class you should be able to get all the hw done during class. He really wants to help and cares about his students success.
Can't recommend Brother Nelson enough. This is one of the hardest classes I've taken and it requires a lot from you, both in learning and the amount of assignments. But I feel like I really learned a lot, and Brother Nelson is more then willing to help you understand. He acknowledges your efforts and gives make-up work opportunities!
Brother Nelson does a good job of explaining concepts clearly and giving you a chance to earn an A even if you aren't great at physics. You just have to put in the extra work. You have an assignment involving programming once a week. If you aren't familiar with python, you won't understand it, but he will help you complete it.
He is the worst teacher I've ever had for Physics because he doesn't teach us anything in class. Its a waste of time because you have to keep asking him problems only in class. He isn't available for out of class.
It is like an honors AP class.
You spend more time reading the textbook then actually learning in class.
I've had an A in every class but I had to really fight for my grade.
Don't take this class is you haven't taken a Physics class in high school. I didn't and I barely passed the class.
I enjoyed reading before taking this class but it is an essive amount in that class.
If you are thinking about this teacher think again as you will need to be ahead in the class everyday.
I went to the science lab to get help and even then it was really difficult.
The only reason I got what my grade is because they are very hard on neatness. Would not recommend.
I attended every class and lab that I could in my schedule and I still barely had above a c+.
This should be a 300 class not a 100 because there is no way you can expect to do well in this class.
Dr. Nelson is by far one of my favorite teachers! He teaches physics very well and will take the necessary time to help each student comprehend the material (if they themselves are willing to learn). Dr. Nelson will definitely challenge you but has the desire and a solid plan to help you--it is clear that he cares about his students.
Brother Nelson was capable to teach a topic of great difficulty in very basic, simple and student related way. He clearly understands the topic and makes sure everyone in class will also get it. PH123 is hard. It is a demanding class regardless who teaches it. You will have to study. Brother Nelson made this path of learning easier for me.
Brother Nelson was a huge help! The textbook readings can be a bit confusing, but he would then teach the material so everythibg made sense. The quizzes are difficult but he allows you to submit your work to get almost all your points back if it looks like you somewhat knew what you were doing. He is willing and happy to help you with anything!
Brother Nelson has been my favorite professor from the physics department. I am not a physics major so I didnt care about some of the topics, but the structure of the class is set up for success and learning.
Brother Nelson will teach you the real and most successful way possible. His classes are based on a strong technique for long lasting memory and understanding of the material. I took two classes from him and I loved them both. Yes, it's no easy class it's physics but if you don't struggle you WON'T learn. If you want to learn and have fun take him.
He is one of the kindest, most diligent professors I've ever had! He sincerely listens to the questions asked, and will change the pace and focus of a lecture to meet the needs of even one student who is struggling. Physics is not an easy subject, but he gives you the tools and motivation to excel!
I loved taking my physics class with Brother Nelson. He teaches in a very clear way that is distinct from other teachers. He taught not only the equations we use but how we get them and why we use them. Also, he has probably the best homework system ever. He gives out problems and you choose which ones you want to work on alone or as a group.
Great teacher, explains things very clearly in lectures and is relaxed.
Brother Nelson cares deeply that you understand the material. If you put in the effort and do the work, you will learn a ton. Also, Solid State Physics is a fantastic class, as good as Modern Physics. Brother Nelson has research experience in this field, so the class is a great resource from him.
Introductory Electricity and Magnetism from Brother Nelson completely prepared me for the junior level Electricity and Magnetism course (PH 333, the Griffiths book). He takes time to lead you right up to discoveries, but you need to put in the work to take the last step. When you do, though, you remember that concept so much better than otherwise.
Really good and patient teacher. He was always willing to help you and loved when you asked for help. We had workdays to work with other students and he would walk around and help whenever there were any questions. you could just tell that he loved answering any questions and clearing up any confusion. his class setup is only to help you succeed
Brother Nelson made the class fun and interesting. I was able to learn physics concepts that I am applying every day in my degree in Mechanical Engineering. I also learned how to use python which is a big plus! Students complain that this class is hard, but it is not if you work every day. Btw, there are extra credit points.
I had him for 4 separate physics classes. He's extremely accessable outside class and will do everything he can to help his students understand. Physics is a difficult subject and demands a lot of time, so if you struggle with math or science take PH classes during light semesters. (Seriously, the student advisors don't always know about classes).
He cares about your understanding and competence. I feel that the work load fairly represents the course. Hes not one the many professors at BYUI that cares more about harvesting a paycheck
You will never have a professor that will go the distance that Brother Nelson does FOR YOU. Absolutely incredible professor. I wish I could take ever class from him. Expects you to learn but will do everything in his power to help. SERIOUSLY THE BEST PROFESSOR. If youre debating who to take a class from take it from him.
Brother Nelson has a unique system for homework and quizzes. While the quizzes were stressful, the system did a great job of creating a more permanent knowledge in me. If he still offers extra credit for doing extra homework problems, I 100% recommend taking advantage of that.
Great professor, he expects quite a bit but will help you so much to achieve it. Took an conceptually really difficult class but he made it understandable and achievable. Wish I could take every class from him.
Brother Nelson is one of the most caring professors I have ever had. He has really inspired me as a physics major. He really cares for his students. Physics is a tough subject, so don't expect this class to be easy. But you are better off with Brother Nelson than just about anyone else!
Brother Nelson is a FANTASTIC professor. I absolutely loved him and his class. He really makes you think about the material and wants his students to succeed. His class can be a little strenuous, but that's because he wants you to learn and not just speed run through the class. Highly recommend him!
Brother Nelson is very helpful. The course material he teaches is very hard but he dedicates a lot of time to you when you ask for help. Great teacher, teaches things very clearly as long as you're paying attention.
He made sure we had a group that we could work with and build each other up with, he specifically checked in with me when I had to quarantine and zoom into class. He makes sure we have a balance of lectures and work time, and helps us learn from mistakes that we make via offering points for test corrections. If you can take a class from him, do it!
You won't find a professor who is more on your side that Brother Nelson. If he didn't have time to answer a student's question during class, he would email us the answer after class. He has a good balance of lectures and group work to help you learn the material. Physics is very challenging, but he will do anything he can to help you succeed.
Great teacher. Physics can be hard material, but Brother Nelson does a good job in his class structure to give you the best opportunity at success
Absolutely great professor. One of the best teachers in the physics department by far. He really cares about his students and what he is teaching. If you are actively participating in class and doing your work, you can pass very easily.
Brother Nelson has been one of my favorite professors by far. His first priority is his students. Not only is he an expert in his field, he knows exactly how to explain it so that his students can learn. If at any point, a student does fall behind, he is more than willing to work with you to meet outside of class. Even when not during office hours
I've had almost every physics professor at BYUI. Bro. Nelson is one of the best. Physics is hard despite the teacher you have, but Bro. Nelson doesn't overcomplicate it and teaches you the skills you need to succeed in this and future classes. The amount of homework and reading in this class was similar to other low-leveled physics classes I've had
He really cares about you understanding the material, and is a very good teacher overall. He's extremely helpful when you have questions, and is genuinely happy when he sees you understand the material. I would definitely take him again. It is a bit of work, but you definitely end up understanding what's taught.
He really cares about his students. Doesn't like to move on to new material until he has fully covered the previous material, he will take the time to really think about and answer questions. He uses flash cards to help students review what they've learned. His style did not mesh with me, so I would not choose him again. Good if you think like him.
One of the greatest professors I have ever had, period. The weekly quizzes helped me to retain important information with the ability toncorrect my mistakes amf recieve partial credit. He is fair, brilliant, caring, dedicated, amd organized. I learned so much from Brother Nelson! Would fully recommend to anyone in a heartbeat. Take Brother Nelson!
Brother Nelson is straight forward with his material, his course materials make you hustle and stretch out of your comfort zone but you'll learn a lot. I absolutely sucked at physics but I always enjoyed the learning environment brother Nelson created in his class. Don't take this expecting an easy A, but do expect a lot of growth and learning.
Great teacher, really knows how to get you interested in the subjects. Sometimes weird or difficult to take notes, but very understandable and thorough explanations of the concepts.
Brother Nelson is a great professor. Even with confusing material he was patient and gave examples to help us understand. He had very reasonable expectations and was willing to help the students reach them. He was knowledgeable and excited about the material and open to feedback. He worked well with us and helped us succeed.
Brother Nelson is easily one of my favorite professors I have had. He taught very clear and made class fun every day. His teaching method allows you to actually learn the material while being able to still get a good grade. I would highly recommend taking a class from him!
An amazing professor who knows a lot about what he teaches. Grading is super clear and he is understanding if things happen.
Professor Nelson is pretty good! He has a very interesting style of teaching, and it helps you to remember things long-term. The key to this class is downloading the equation sheet and referring to it often. He doesn't accept late work, so watch out for that.
Took 121 through zoom and it sucked, but it was easier with bor. Nelson. He cares enough to truly help you learn the material. Felt like I really understood the material by the end of the semester. Later took 220 from him too, it was just as easy to learn from him.
A great professor who gives clear instruction on all topics. Id take a class from him again anytime.
Brother Nelson is a great teacher. His lectures are very easy to understand. More importantly, he is a very humble and nice person. He is approachable and understanding. Physics 220 is very test and quiz heavy. Brother Nelson gives you plenty of time to practice, so that you can succeed. Most of the homework matches the tests and quizzes too.
You need to have a basic knowledge of Python coding before you take the class. Brother Nelson helps you out if you've never coded before. But the class is much easier if you walk in on the first day with that experience.
Br. Nelson has a passion for helping students learn. He has a good understanding of how to make the course material stick beyond the first week of learning. Open to working with people to get through homework and quizzes.
This was my first introduction to lab classes, using code to model physical phenomena, and writing lab reports. His explanations made the process very clear and made the harder lab projects doable. He offered and explained alternate methods of coding to make a script run when mine failed.
This was a challenging class involving a lot of new concepts. Sometimes the lectures helped but most of the learning was in the homework. Br. Nelson was willing to walk me through the logic of why portions of my code didn't work and offered suggestions on how to improve them. I remember more about coding from his class than from any other.
The homework was pretty flexible- we could choose which problems we wanted to do, as long as we got the right number of points. Aslo, there was room for extra credit with HW. The final exam wasn't worth a lot, no stress. The unit exams were pretty adequate, and there was a lot of partial credit. I will take a class from him again next semester
Bro Nelson's classes are truly a pleasure to be in. He does his best to carefully explain each topic and is always ready to lend a hand outside classes. His tests really force you to study the material as some of the problems may require to think outside the box. He's a really nice person and is really easy to talk to as well.
Brother Nelson is awesome! He really knows what he is talking about and can answer any question. His class was a little difficult, but I learned so much. He explains things really well. He is one of the best teachers I have ever had.
Brother Nelson is one of the best professors ever. He really wants you to learn the material. His class is a little hard, but if you put in the work it's not too bad. If you don't like brother Nelson, it's because you aren't trying to learn. He's a great teacher!
From the first day of class, you immediately know you are in a Physics class. I had brother Nelson for PH 121 and it was the hardest class of my physics undergraduate. He makes you think, work, and remember all the materials needed for future physics courses. If you want to be a future ENG/PH I couldnt think of a better professor to do so.
Professor Nelson is a good professor. He explains the concepts well and helps the students through difficulties. He has an exam and homework due every week, but that's wonderful because that means there's no midterm or final. If you don't do well on an exam one week, you have many more to make up for it.
Professor Nelson is always willing to work with student until they understand the material. Very easy to talk to and ask for help.
Fun class with lots to learn
Brother Nelson will work with you to help you understand. He wants you to know know the "why" and is good at explaining.
Awesome teacher. Takes the time to help students understand the material and it's clear he isn't there just for his paycheck. He taught PH121 so well that my engineering dynamics class was a breeze. If he teaches any classes that I still need to take I would base my schedule around being in his class, that's how much I enjoy his teaching.
Great teacher, just be ready to work with a group. The hardest part of the class was learning python. I would suggest making a CS friend.
I took Brother Nelson when everything was remote, which I was super hesitant at first. It had been years since my last physics class. So I was nervous yet excited. Brother Nelson is a very effective teacher and I appreciated the reiterative nature of his class. He was willing to help us out individually and he is good at articulating concepts.
He is a really good professor. The class itself can be difficult for a lot of people, including myself. This class was required for my major at the time and I ended up getting a C. My major didn't focus on physics and I wasn't very interested in it, but Brother Nelson's teaching style made it enjoyable for me. I recommend taking it with him.
I took PH121 from him before Covid. He made sure we understood the concepts and why things happen rather than just getting a grade. He made some real-life demonstrations of concepts that blew my mind. The Python part could be difficult but being exposed to it helped me get a job the next semester. One of the best physics teachers I've ever had
I am a senior & he is my fav prof. Ph121 is tough. But he makes sure you can succeed. You choose the hw problems from his lists, so you can work on your weaknesses. No tests, just weekly quizzes similar to hw, that you can take twice, and even then you can get partial credit. He will answer all your question and work with you until you get it 10/10
Arguably one of my favorite teachers at BYUI, and I took his class the semester before I graduated. The class itself wasnt necessarily easy, but thats physics. His style made getting a good grade possible. He did an excellent job explaining things and was always available for questions. It also helped that I enjoyed working with my group.
Brother Nelson is a very caring professor. He even takes time to know you and what you are interested in. After taking his class, I've gained quite the respect for Solid State Physics, and I understand the concepts a lot better now. It does require work on your part to learn, but he slows down and makes sure you understand before moving on.
Lectures half of the days, the rest are for working on your typical math homework in groups. I felt cared for and included in his class.
His lectures are understandable but it helps if you do the reading. Homework is done in class in a group and on your own, so its weird but a great way for you to study the concepts. You have to do a minimum number of HW problems but if you do more he gives you bonus points. Weekly quizzes are a little difficult but not bad. He helps when you ask.
If your college experience hasn't previously trained you to handle a frequent cadence of high stakes tests then you might have a bit more stress than you're used to. That being said my experience was good, the ability to chose your homework offsets the frequent testing because you can actively prepare for the tests. I also like that he uses Python
Bro Nelson was the best Physics professor I've had. Bro Nelson explains difficult concepts at a level that I could understand and even do the formulae without an issue. He's also so kind to you and won't shut you up to move to the next concept. He keeps going till you understand and makes time outside class time to help you.
The course load is HEAVY. His exam questions that are tricky and force you to think outside the box. Don't expect a funny laid back professor! Professor Lance Nelson is strict and has high expectations. Here's what I liked about him: he offers extra credit, he believes in working in groups, he CARES, and is willing to answer questions.
Bro. Nelson is a great teacher. Physics can be overwhelming but bro. Nelsons teachings were clear and understandable. I would take him over any of the other physics teachers.
Brother Nelson is very genuine and wants you to succeed in his class. He gave 1:1 help to students during class time for homework projects each week. We worked in groups on example problems given in class during lecture to make sure we understood how to solve them in our HW.
The subject was just super hard for me personally. The readings were also pretty hefty. If it wasn't for the kindness and caring of Bro. Nelson, the PH 121 would've been a nightmare. Thankfully, the teacher was always willing to help and did his best to make sure people understood during class. He's a good guy and I felt like he cared for us!
Good guy. Obviously a young teacher, which gives him some advantages over old teachers and some disadvantages. Relatable if not overly knowledgeable like brother Hatt. One of the better coders in the department though - Id recommend him for all your python needs.
This was a great course. I would definitely take another class from Professor Nelson. His grading scale makes it possible to get good grades in what can easily become a difficult course. He also has wonderful lectures and in class experiments that make it easy to understand the material. Most of all, he cares about his students. Great professor.
He is one of the best physics professors. Always willing to help and he knows his stuff
Brother Nelson does a good job of cutting out busy work. I really liked his class structure. Usually what people get hung up on is that he has some python based assignments. This can be good or bad depending on who you ask. He has weekly quizzes instead of tests. He also gives class time to work on homework.
Brother Nelson has been one of my favorite teachers here at BYU-I. He is very patient and always willing to help. In his class you alternate between lecture and homework days. If you do the readings, and actively participate on both types of days you will do great in his class.
Lance Nelson cares about his students. He is always willing to help out with questions. He explains concepts thoroughly. In my class we worked together in groups on homework often. We were expected to read a section of the book before coming to class and there was an extremely low-stakes quiz each day. If you do the work, the tests aren't too bad.
I really enjoyed his class. We didn't have to do too much outside of class, and he gave us regular class periods to work on our homework.
I wish there was a way to select more tags! Brother Nelson is an amazing professor and is very willing to help in any way possible. His ability to teach so we’ll likely comes from his desire to see students succeed. 12/10 would recommend.
Brother Nelson is AMAZING! His class was my favorite class this semester. You can tell that he really cares about his students because he's willing to do anything to help you understand. It is also clear that he's a very smart person and he's very good at explaining things. He allows test corrections and he's funny. I would take any class from him.
The homework in this class isn't too bad, other than there is quite a bit of it. The exams are kind of difficult though, but Brother Nelson allows makeup work if you didn't do so well. This class is 5 times a week and you should be there each day if you want to stay caught up. The first third of the class is the most difficult.
Bro Nelson is the most caring teacher I know. His class was extremely well organized, he makes his expectations clear, and he always makes good use of your time. He allowed exam correction, and offered extra credit opportunities. Physics has always been my most dreaded subject, but I enjoyed this class. Take every physics class you can from him!
Physics 121 can be a hard class. If understanding the material doesn't come to you easily, then you'll need to study the textbook. Professor Nelson is great and wants students to work together to solve problems in class. He also takes time to help you understand simple steps to solve physics problems more easily.
Professor Nelson is really good about trying to help you learn. The homework is hard because physics is hard, but he's really helpful and will work with you about grades lates, and is crazy good at the material himself. the material definitely makes you think, but the lectures are clear and helpful. Time in class was provided for homework.
Great teacher, one of the best I have ever had!
Brother Nelson is a great professor! his class is tough, but its Physics, so that's expected. He cares a lot about his students and is willing to help when needed. His class is lecture/workday/lecture/workday so there is a lot of time to get help from him IN class.
Brother Nelson is, overall, a great professor. He is constantly improving his teaching strategies. I think this is great. However, it is worth noting that he gives a TON of homework. Prepare for daily load of 2 hours minimum. He also has harder exams (more problems than other professors). He allows test question retakes.
Great professor, he worked hard to make sure that we understood the concepts.
Seemingly refuses to do any actual teaching. Just spouts some nonsense about how we as humans "learn by doing". No, we learn by watching AND THEN doing. On literally the THIRD day of class, he makes you find the roots of a quadratic by using the quadratic formula in Python.
He is really good at bringing the gospel into his courses, and he teaches very simply and straightforward. Everything that is graded on has all the information in the textbook, which he wrote, to pass with 100% I've had him for other physics courses, and he is by far one of the most forgiving for late work, taking exams, etc.
Professor Nelson is great - he really cares about students and makes physics content digestible. unstuckstudy was a lifesaver for study prep alongside the textbook. The course is challenging but doable with consistent effort.
