Mr. Nelson is the most excellent math teacher I have EVER had. He is a joy to be in class with and he fully explains the matterial. I purposely took Lance for Discrete after having him for MET2. He is very organized and clearly explains concepts. ALWAYS willing to help. ex: if you pass him in the student union, he will stop and help if you ask him. If he teaches the class you need - you MUST TAKE it with him.

Lance will give you as much help as you need to fully understand the subject. His lectures were fast-paced, but laid back. He's energetic and cares about the subject and the students. Homework wasn't graded, but it will help you succeed in the course. He held optional review sessions outside of class time for every exam. Highly recommended.

After receiving an F with a different Calc-2 instructor, I took Lance Nelson's class this semester. Lance was excellent in teaching the material and not only did I end up with an A this time around, I was able to tutor other calculus-2 students from the same class as well as those who had a different instructor. Good teacher. Almost went over examples too many times. Could be because I was in too easy of a math class. I stopped going and still ended up with a C. If you go everyday and aren't impaired, this should be an easy A.

One of the best teachers I've ever had. The summer class was obviously at a faster pace than during a regular semester, but Lance kept everybody on the same page. Go to class, do the homework and the quizzes and it's a breeze. I would definitely take his class again just to learn from this awesome prof. He's hilarious and really helpful!

I had Lance for College Algebra. He is by far the best math teacher I've ever had. Even in a class of 200 he makes sure everyone id caught up. He teaches ALL material covered on hw & tests, helps outside of class if needed, friendly, funny, & very intelligent. Best math professor!

I bombed the first test and did mediocre on the last three and i ended up with a C-. Do the online homework and go to class and you should be fine. Lance is probably one of the most laid back teachers out there. However, with that being said, he genuinely cares about every student's grade. I switched to his class from Stevenson a few weeks in and was the best choice I've made in college so far. I would take his class all over again in given the opportunity.

There are several great math teachers at UA, and he's one of them. Vastly smart and really captures your attention. I've always loved math and he was really inspiring. I went to every lecture knowing I'd come out of it having learned something. Take him if you can.

Lance is one of the best Mathematics instructors at the University of Akron. I took him for college algebra spring semester. He WILL help, but there is a catch. YOU MUST GO TO HIS CLASSES AND WORK HARD, do that and his help will always be there for you. Don't do that, you better find a tutor. He does teach fast, be prepared. GREAT INSTRUCTOR

Lance was such a cool teacher. I took him for college algebra and the class was too easy for me and I ended up testing into calc 1 for the spring, but nonetheless, I enjoyed his class. He goes kinda fast so make sure you speak up if you have a question!

Struggled tremendously in Calc I and Dr. Nelson made Calc II a breeze for me. He's personable, extremely approachable and is always available to his students. Makes corny jokes and engages with the class. Encourages questions which I love because I ask a lot! Responds to emails and grades so quickly! I wish I could take every class with him.

Prof. Nelson is the best Calc I and Calc II teacher on campus. If I had taken anyone but him, I doubt I would have passed the class. Homework is not mandatory but he does give a quiz every friday with an exam every three weeks. He always gives out reviews for the exam, and explains what exactly is going to be on each quiz. Helpful, friendly, funny.

He explains everything in a simplistic manner, however, his tests, though fair, do push your knowledge of the subject. There's a quiz every Friday which helps with your grade. I sat front row center and he cared so much he read my facial expressions and knew when I was confused. Would actually ask me what I didn't understand during his lecture. Pay attention cus he does skip steps in equations for time

I was a business major last year and got put in college algebra. The class was way to easy for me and I got an A no problem, but nonetheless, Lance is awesome. Lectures are interesting and fast paced, so make sure you pay attention. I see him on campus all the time and he says hi to me and even wished me good luck on my calc 2 final.

Math is not a strong subject of mine; however, Dr. Nelson taught in a way that allowed me to understand the material. He is a tough grader and does not offer many points outside of his exams, but Dr. Nelson is encouraging to students and pushes them to excel throughout the class.

No doubt my favorite professor at Akron! Amazing , funny, and is always there for you. If you have the chance, TAKE HIM. He helped me learn so much and while there are no points outside of quizzes and tests, you learn a lot. I took him for Calc 1 and 2 and I wish I could take him until I graduated. He's a great teacher if you're a math person. He didn't go too fast or too slow, and was very helpful when questions were asked. Homework's not mandatory but it's helpful if you don't understand a section. Know the practice exams backwards and forwards and you should be okay.

There is no finer professor at the University of Akron than Dr. Nelson. The content in this course is tricky, as you would expect in any college class, but Dr. Nelson explains it clearly, slowly, and thoroughly at each step. He is up front about what will be on tests and quizzes. If you struggle with math or just want the best, he's the guy to get.

Lance is a great math teacher both for his personality and teaching style. He is very easy to reach during office hours and that is the only way I have been able to pass this class. I think he tests and quizzes (which he makes) are a bit too challenging, but otherwise he has a fair grading system. He is a great choice for student struggling in math

By far Dr. Nelson is the best math teacher I have had throughout my schooling, both in terms of how he teaches and the person he is. He truly cares about how well you do in his class, and loves to see you putting forth effort to better your grade. Going to office hours will help tremendously, so don't be shy. Definitely take him if available.

I had Dr. Lance for Calc 1. The pace of his lectures is pretty fast I only had to write things down and didn't really have time to process what we were learning. That being said he is a phenomenal teacher and my notes were more than enough to get me through the class. I never cracked the book I just put in countless hours on example problems.

Lance is great! Calc 2 is really difficult but he really tries in class to make sure everyone is following what is going on! I understood everything going through examples in class because of how he talked through everything! He really cares about his students!! Very great prof!

Professor Nelson is simply amazing. He knows how to teach, taking a difficult subject and making it easy to comprehend. He encourages questions and if you get an answer wrong on tests and quizzes he still gives partial credit if you show your work. None of the homework was for points and textbooks were optional which was nice financially.

By far the best math instructor I have ever encountered-- had him for calc one and soon for calc two. If you pay attention to the lectures (which go by rapidly), and do practice problems for each section, you will do fine. They are both hard classes, but he gets you through it without too much pain. No better math professor on earth.

Dr. Nelson is arguably the best professor for math I have ever had. While classes are online, he gives written feedback on your quizzes and offers plenty of review work for exams and quizzes. No doubt that you have to put in the work to get the grade you deserve, but he is always available for office hours AND responds to emails on weekends.

He was an amazing professor. Calc 2 is supposed to be one of the more difficult math courses and he made it much easier. We had a quiz each week that he was extremely clear with what it would be over. He dropped 2 quizzes and gave 1-2 take home quizzes. Definitely my favorite professor this semester!!!

I took Lance Nelson for Calc II, which is notoriously one of the hardest classes in all of college. I don't know if I would have passed it with any other professor. I can't recommend him enough.

Instead of just assuming you understand everything after one or two examples, Professor Nelson does examples over and over again until he knows you have at least some understanding of the material. His class is pretty laid back, and he is a super chill guy. His 5 year old niece does all of his grading which is pretty cool I guess.

Dr. Nelson is by far the greatest math professor/teacher I've ever had. He genuinely cares about how his students do. He uses his notes/worksheets, so there isn't a textbook. He makes it very clear what will be on the quizzes and exams. The only downside to his class is that the course is very test-heavy. My final was worth 40% of my grad.

Nelson is a great, easygoing professor and explains the material very well. He prepares you for quizzes and exams by providing actual examples of test questions. It also doesn't hurt that he's super charismatic and looks like Ryan Reynolds.
