The material is def hard, but Lance is very clear, making it easy. The tests that are written are really easy, but the final is a killer!! I had a mid A going into the final, and ended up getting a B out of the class. He's a good teacher though. No quizes, just hw, 3 tests, and a final. Do all the hw, score well on the tests, and pray for the final
Haven't had him as a professor, but he was the TA for my MATH101 class, which is a very difficult class and we had a really difficult teacher. I learned most of it through him at recitation and review sessions that he held for us. Good guy, patient, explains things clearly, gave us easy quizzes. I really think he should have just taught our class.
Lance is a very good teacher because he is extremely clear and knows what he is doing. I recommend you take him. If you want to pass his class, make sure you do all the homework and showup to all his classes and take notes.
He was a great teacher and he made the class fun. I would defiantly recommend having him as your teacher.
this class is dificult. but the he makes offers assistance with every exam. he is a good techer but he tends to explain the material very quick. overall good class and great teacher!
He's so cute. He's a great teacher. However, he goes really fast. But he do stop and ask if you're following him. He encouraged class participation and going to the board. I loved his class. Math 108 was super easy. I dont even know how I ended up in the class. Lance made it even easier. Take him!!
Best teacher I ever had- very patient and clear. Doesn't make you feel stupid...helps you as long as it takes for you to "get it" He is awesome!!!
I loved Lance! He was such an awesome teacher. I hate math with a passion, and this was my second time taking 101, but Lance made it so easy! He explained everything so well, he was available, and extremely helpful during office hours. He is a must take for 101!
I really, really like Lance. Even though attendance is not mandatory, it might as well be because a lot of his test and quiz material come from his lectures. You can tell he really cares about the students understanding the concepts he is teaching. Awesome guy : )
best teacher EVER...If you are going to take a math class MAKE SURE YOU HAVE HIM AS A TEACHER!!!
Lance did an okay job, he goes a little fast in lectures and doesn't always answer questions clearly. It does help to go to his office hours though, he will help you one on one if you make the effort to go see him.
I recommend Lance, for sure. He gave a generous curve and had a decent amount of office hours, though he was a pretty big stickler for what I considered to be tiny details when grading our exams. Also, I didn't buy the book-- all homework assignments are able to be printed out. Def recommend.
Fantastic teacher. So long as you're willing to learn he is able to teach you. Office hours are super convenient. A bit of hipster but denies it and a cup of Starbucks is never far from his hand.
good goog good
good guy! has random 3pt. quizzes to make sure you attend. DO ATTEND EVERY CLASS. the material builds upon itself, and in class he explains very well. has a sense of humor but is very concerned about students cheating. overall, TAKE HIM! he runs all review sessions, and does want to help.
Great teacher! He explains things really clearly! He basically gives you the questions for the quizzes and tests, just show up to lecture and you will get an A!
Lance is such a wonderful math teacher. He is understanding, caring, and overall has a sense of humor. He helps his students the best he can and teaches the material very well. If math is not your best subject take him because he makes math 101 an easy subject to grasp. Additonally, his office hours are helpful to study!
Although the class was a little difficult it was so much easier having a caring teacher like lance. GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS! its so helpful and his sense of humor comes out during that time. go to every class, trust me. you get mini quizes such as whats your favorit band for attendence!
Excellent instructor, explains things very well, cant say enough good things about him. Would recommend any math class that he teaches. If you are willing to go to class and recitation there is many opportunities to increase your grade. He is very fair and very helpful. A+ instructor!!!
pretty good teacher. he explains stuff really good. it's not too hard to understand. i would recommend him to everyone.
Awesome instructor, probably the best math instructor I've ever had, he's very clear and to the point no B.S. Tells you exactly what you NEED to hear to do well in his class.
I love Lance!!! He was the best math instructor that I have ever encountered. He explained everything with clarity and makes a hard subject very easy. As long as you come to lecture daily and take good notes you will get a good grade! There is also a huge curve!
If I could take every math class with Lance, I would. He is an awesome, awesome teacher. Very helpful, he just makes class super easy. It's important that you always come to lectures because if you get off track bc of tardies, he'll be less likely to want to help. His class notes are great, and that's all you need! Don't buy the book!!!!
He's a great teacher and you'll get a good grade in the class as long as you go to class and take notes. If you needed extra help he has office hours and is always willing to help you pass the class but you have to put in the effort too.
I had to take this class twice and when I took it with Lance the 2nd time it made so much more sense. He broke it down so that I could understand it. I love this guy, if anyone wanted a math teach in a hard class, this is the man you would want
Extremely helpful and wonderful to look at during class.
Lance is an amazing teacher! I hate math but had to take it, and I am so happy i chose to take him. He is very helpful and very clear! He also curves the class so an 85 is a B. Attending class would be smart, you miss one class and you will be lost. Overall I love him!! TAKE HIM!!
BEST TEACHER FOR MATH 211. VERY CLEAR AND EASY TO UNDERSTAND. TAKE HIM AND YOU SHOULD EASILY PASS, AS LONG AS YOU PUT IN THE EFFORT TO SHOW UP AND STUDY BEFORE EXAMS!
He was an ok teacher overall. Could not stand him in the beginning I guess since I had him every at 8am. Did not try as hard in the beginning but ended up with a C. He does not believe in extra credit. He a average teacher but if U find better get a better teacher.
Class is cool. Its not mandatory that you go to class, but I HIGHLY suggest it! Took Math 110 first semester as a Freshman. But I will probably have to take it again. Make sure you go to the Math Lab 3 hours a week for participation points. Can't pass the class without participating. Also, GET A TUTOR!
His class is easy if you put in the work in the Math Lab. Highly recommend going to the TA lectures in the lab. He's good at making people look stupid if you ask a question..but he's a very straightforward, to the point kind of guy
Lance is a beast. He's a chill person and he tries his best to get your attention. In Math 110, that's not exactly easy, but he manages to actually turn heads at times. You're required to spend at least 3 hours per week in math lab, but it works to your advantage because it counts as participation, and it helps you get your work done. PracticeTests
great teacher! you can tell he likes it. if you put in the effort so will he.
I went into this class expecting the worst. I was horrible at math in high school and I hadn't taken a math class in 6 years, but all I had to do was pay attention in class and lab and do the hw and I somehow got out with an A. Literally only looked at the book to do hw problems. Lance made it easy and keeps your attention.
Lance is an awesome teacher! The class is tough but he is always happy to help and has a great attitude everyday. His no phone rule really helps you stay focused during class. I couldn't be happier with my experience even though I am awful at math.
Lance is one of the best teachers I've ever had. He shoots straight from day one telling exactly what the rules are, and won't deviate so don't even try! Other than that, he's in love with Math and wants to help you do well. Is patient to answer all ?s, in lab or email, and his TA's are top-notch. Use the lab 3+ hours/wk to pass this class!
Absolute favorite teacher! As long as you show up to every class you will pass and its not because it's easy but because he teaches the material so well. Don't buy the book though!
He's definitely a pro at teaching. His goal really is to help people understand the material, especially in the context of upcoming math courses. I could have done without hearing about his religious leanings several times. He would occasionally spout nonsense like he believes that math is the "language of god" which is an abuse of his position.
Lance is a great teacher. He really knows how to motivate students and he makes math easy to learn. The book isn't mandatory so don't spend money on the book in the beginning! Most of the class is online and there is an online textbook. If you are usually bad at math then this is the teacher to go with because he finds a way to make it interesting.
This course is difficult because I have always struggled in math. However, the good thing is that homework, quizzes, and exams are taken online. 3 math lab hours a week is your participation. There are about 1-3 tutors there all the time who help you on the spot. You can work on assignments on your on time but I suggest finishing in the lab.
He's an okay teacher when it comes to lectures. He does not like when you have your phone out, but he only has 50 minute lectures for 110, so that shouldn't be too much of a challenge. My problem with him came up during lab time. He is very condescending with his help, and leaves you (or at least me) feeling dumb, every time. 410 for me.
The best prof I ever had. math isn't easy but with him it's supper easy. you have to attend 3 hours in the math lab each week and f you do I guarantee easy A. NOTE if he said the best way to study for your exam is to....... just do it. he really mean it!
Has a massive curve. Will help you as much as you need it and wants to see students succeed. Take his class he is one of the easiest professors you can have.
Lance is great. Great lecturers, very explanatory. Lectures aren't optional. But you do have to get 3 hours a week done in math lab, which is genius. I think of it as tutoring, only get help when needed. But you get the work done. Final is worth 250! Stack your grade before! Oh, and he hates laptops and phones, so stay off!
Professor Vobornik is extremely helpful and puts in a ton of time helping you out on lab questions. He breaks the material down well and has created a ton of videos that are as good if not better than Khan Academy at explaining common algebraic operations. Injects humor into lectures where possible.
This is a math professor that actually cares about his students. He has a very fair grading system. He was available in the math lab for several hours a week. He actually tried to make math fun to learn, when its usually a hard subject to do that with. Very Fair. My Math lab is used with this class.
Great teacher, helpful!
He gives a lot of help if you don't understand something. Lectures were short but like was said before if you don't understand he would be glad to help. Very passionate about what he teaches and lectures are never boring. Gives review lesson before you have to take an exam.
Lance is a really good teacher! Although he has hundreds of students a semester he still finds a way to get to know you if you participate in lectures and in the math lab. Go to the math lab! Lectures aren't mandatory but math lab really helps save your grade. Lance really helps you and is a great, inspirational teacher.
HE IS VERY HELPFUL. YOU CAN TELL HE CARES. HE HELPS YOU EVEN WHEN YOU DONT ASK FOR IT, HE WILL WALK AROUND THE CLASS IF HE THINKS YOURE STUCK HE WILL VOLUNTEER HIS HELP. HE'S ALSO YOUNG, REALLY NICE, AND EASY TO UNDERSTAND. YOU DONT HAVE TO GO TO HIS LECTURE CLASS. IM A C AVERAGE STUDENT. 2.2-2.6 GPA
Has the best math jokes on planet earth. You don't have to attend lecture but you should. Because that's when his stand-up routine begins.
One of the best teachers at NIU! He sets up the Math Lab just for Math 110 students to basically have one on one tutoring help. He also is there when he is not teaching to help students. He is straight forward and always ready to help. Made math fun.
I took this course during the summer which was Mon-Thurs 8am. It was rough but this guy is amazing. His lectures are incredibly clear and he works slowly with the class and checks for understanding. Homework and quizzes are expected and daily but you practically do the exact same questions that day during the lecture. Go to class if you want an A
Lance is awesome. He's totally hilarious AND a great professor! He explains things very clearly during lecture and genuinely wants students to succeed. He uses MyMathLab for everything, AND has required hours in the lab where either himself or one of TAs are there to help you. I cannot say enough good things about him and his class!
Lance is one of those instructors you'd expect to see sitting outside for lunch with a flock of students hanging on his every word. He's young and can relate to us, genuinely cares about his students more than I've ever seen before, and gives adorable analogies in class to help you remember principles. When I saw he was teaching 155, I GOT ON THAT.
My class was an online class for math which made it harder than it should be.
Lance is one of the best professors at NIU. He is relatable, energetic, and youthful. He is not the typical "big wig professor" that has an ego. He wants his students to succeed and supplies every possible tool to make sure they excel in his classes. I would not want to take 110 with anybody else but him.
He is fabulous instructor, I had him once at Math 100, and he really was an amazing. The material is easy, but each mistake will cost losing the whole credit of the question.
He has a really bad attitude on some days. Other days he is nice. but he can snap on students for no reason tho.
Lance is a great professor. For this particular class, we were required to attend 3 lab hours a week, and those lab hours help you out so much. He is frequently in the lab, and always approaches students who need help. I would definitely recommend his class to anyone.
He is a difficult professor to rate because he's more a purveyor of learning tools than he is an actual teacher, and it is hard to tell how much of that is his fault or the math department. I got 100% participation and HW, and quiz scores say at high C/low B. Yet, I bombed tests and none of his tools helped. If you struggle with math go to a 2 yr
Best math teacher period. Funny, helpful, will kick your ass if needed.
Lance cares for his students and even cares for the subject that he is teaching. This is the kind of thing I look for and appreciate in a professor. Thank you, Lance.
Lance is great. His teaching style is modeled with practicing - which is quite true, especially for Math. He tries to crack you up, and is reliable and always ready to help. Course was planned to reward handwork. Always had fun going to his classes.
Lance is a very passionate mathematics professor. Hes clear about material and is always helpful in the math lab, which is required for the class.
Shows a lot of passion in what he teaches. Clears up misconceptions effortlessly. In a one-on-one talk he is a tremendous help. Might seem like he runs through concepts fast in class but it's just because of the allotted time given that he needs to cover coursework in. Has great understanding of how new concepts are viewed for the first time.
Lance is by far the best math teacher I have ever had. His class is difficult because it only meets for 1 hour a week, but he explains the material as clearly as possible. He is understanding and worked with me to reschedule an exam when my daughter was sick. The review sessions before exams are also helpful!
Lance is my favorite Math professor ever. He was clear, concise and obviously passionate. The class was very hard for me, but the way he sets up the required weekly homework, you are forced into learning the content to some degree. A lot is expected of you but if you just do it, you'll be successful. MyMathLab sucks but I understand it's value.
Amazing professor, 100% recommend
Vobornik is an amazing professor. He creates a lively atmosphere during the lectures. The lecture goes step by step and easy to follow. Highly recommend this professor!!!
Excellent instructor. Make sure you go to the math lab and all lectures.
Lance is an amazing teacher. He holds review sessions that help a lot! After attending a few of them, my scores on the exams went from D's to A's and B's. He makes tons of jokes, and is relatable to students. There is a lot of work with the class, and we can all agree the math lab is a complete pain. I hope I have him next semester for MATH 155.
Dude actually knows how to take a intro math class, and have fun with you while learning. Easy A, if you showed up to class and lab times, you shouldn't get less than a B in the class
He would hold the review Exam sessions, when I was taking Math 155. He is hilarious and I like his method of "Keep It Simple" to understand the material. He does go to the Math lab and help students to better understand the material. Great professor! I highly recommend him to any student!
Lance is super nice and hilarious!! Hes also super helpful too. If you have a question hes willing to help you and give you feedback on what youre doing right/wrong. He also gives extra opportunities outside of test and quizzes to help boost your grade like writing assignments and ALEKS.
Most of the material on the exams or quizzes was covered in the class meetings. As long as you attend and pay attention in class, and you do your homework, youll get a good grade!! Hes good at explaining the material in different ways to help everyone understand. He cares about his students and making sure they understand the material!
Lance is a great professor. He explains things in a way so that everyone can understand and he checks on everyone to make sure everyone understands. If you don`t understand he will make sure you do eventually. Very helpful and engaged with the class. To fail his class you have to not try at all.
He was a great professor. He took his time to explain everything in detail and make sure that everyone was caught up. The weekly workload was not bad at all, the quizzes were almost guaranteed to be an A, and you were always well prepared for the tests as long as you participated and studied.
Great at teaching large rooms of students, but bad at 1 on 1 Gives assignments in class, but doesn't tell you how to do them till you've had time to ruminate on how you don't know how to do the assignment. Friendly, but his class is difficult if you don't practice outside the classroom
He was the best math teacher I've ever had. I loved his class and was always happy to be there, he made us learn the math fundamentally, rather than the regurgitation a lot of other professors fall to.
Lance was precisely what I needed in a math professor. His goal is to instill confidence in his students and prepare them for future math courses. He is a fair grader and builds genuine relationships with students. Just do your three hours of Aleks per week, go to class, and ASK QUESTIONS! Do all that, and you will enjoy every single class.
Very understanding and cares much about students.
A great instructor who was very knowledgeable and helpful. He made class very fun to learn and be able to understand new concepts by collaborating in groups to work on the assignments. His teaching style made it easy for me to stay engaged as each class we would discover new topics and work with others to share, help, and ask questions. 10/10!
He is a very kind teacher and cares about his students and subject a lot. He loves math and tries to make others love it as well. Make sure you have good people in your group if possible, he puts you in them and the class is mostly group centered in a good way (no take home projects you have to work on, just in class group stuff)
Lance was easily one of my favorite professors. He's amazing at teaching math and helping all his students understand the concepts. He makes the lectures enjoyable. As long as you complete your weekly 3 hours of ALEKS, come to class, ask questions, and stay engaged you should get a good grade. Lance is defintely a professor I would recommend.
Overall, Lance was one of a kind of proffesors, he adds tones of funny stories, enthusiasm while also keeping his class very engaged. He is truly a good professor that cares about effort and honesty, where if you attend every lecture, you will certainly get an A.
Great professor, teaches clearly, and is very generous with grading.
Lance was an amazing professor. He made everything make sense and was hilarious. He used real-life examples to explain things and would never just give you the answer (I hated it at first, but it definitely helped with retention later on). He is always available to assist and you can tell he genuinely enjoys his job
Lance was an amazing professor who could clearly articulate algebra in a way that middle school students could take his class. He had a homework heavy class, with high expectations, but the quizzes were literally reflective of the homework and the tests were reflective of the quizzes. Lecture was one day a week, and math lab was two days a week.
he is great
Lance is literally the best professor I've had. The one thing I will say is make sure you actually come to class and be prepared to work in groups.
He cares about every student and their success, I've seen him talk to people who don't often come to lectures and check in with them. His grading criteria is very generous, participation is graded but all it means is that you're showing that you're paying attention and engaged with the lecture! I would 100% take him again he's a great teacher.
Such an amazing professor for my first semester here and well prepares you for assessments through the in-class lectures. My only concern is how heavy the ALEKs assignments are towards overall grade, primarily the time requirements.
This class was literally based on group work, ALEKS, quizzes every single week and after 4 weeks of quizzes there's a huge test. You also have to go up to the board to show you understand things.
Professor Vorbonik is an inspiring math professor who believes that all students can not only learn math, but at math--while having fun. Homework was excessive, but test built on questions similar to quizzes which built on questions similar to homework. Repetition in homework is key. Math lab, is not only required, it is your friend!
Professor Lance was engaging and enthusiastic. His lectures were clear, and he made sure everyone understood the material. The workload was manageable, and using unstuck ai along with the textbook was very helpful for study prep.
One of the only math teachers at NIU who seems like they care and knows how to teach.
Lance is everything a professor should be. Seriously one of the best teachers I've ever had. Quizzes every week, aleks can be daunting, and he makes you earn your grade. But he is more than fair and cares about student success and understanding. I wish I could have him for every math class I have to take.
Lance is genuinely the best in the game. You can't pass if you don't try, but the way he structures his classes makes it easy, even if you suck at math. Take his class!! Do it!!
