This professor read off the powerpoint slides in a monotone voice and didn't explain things properly. He wouldn't post the slides before lecture or assign readings from the text, so you would go into class knowing nothing at all. Some of the information in his slide contradicts the textbook and other sources. It was all just way too confusing.
Read exactly what was off of the slides. Did not care to do a review for the last week during final prep. Decided to continue on with more new content. Disorganized and very monotone.
I would not recommend. Notes were a mess, they were just lines copied and pasted out of the text. The slides were overloaded with so much information and no focus. He would not do any summaries, and didn't do anything to help the students. The questions on the tests included things that couldn't be found in the text or notes. Awful class
I don't know what people are complaining about. Yes his notes have a lot of information on them but they're made so you don't have to read the textbook which saved me a lot of time. His questions are all from his notes and his tests are fairly easy for a 3rd year class. Given it was his first year teaching, i'd say he did a good job presenting.
Landon Baillie really needs to improve his lecture delivery. He reads exactly what is on his PowerPoint slides in a very monotone voice. In addition, he puts way too much information on each slide. It is possible to get a high mark in this class, but you will have to make it your life.
Since he's so new to teaching, I really hope he'll improve with experience, but his lectures were boring, the powerpoints were just the textbook regurgitated (it was stressed that exams would be from lecture notes only), & he didn't give any direction to what he actually thought was important. He's super knowledgeable, but is not engaging at all.
Easy class with straightforward exams, but lectures are long. He does not give breaks and he drones on monotonously while reading directly off the slides. Do not need to attend lectures or read textbook to do well.
Knowledgeable professor but i would not recommend him; he's monotone and speak too fast, has messy information on his slides, and not organized. I often turn to the book for clarity!
Extremely knowledgeable. Great speaker. Brought sexy back to Biology. Also trustworthy. I went to the washroom beside him once, he didn't peek once. Took the class twice just to catch the things I missed when I was sick
Once stumbled into a lecture of his by accident and was compelled to take his class. Direct and clear. Would work at subway right now if he was the sandwich artist professor. I once got lost in his eyes for 6 hours and it was just a picture. When Google has questions they "Baillie" it.
Helps you if you ever need help and his notes are amazing. Everything you need to get 100% is on the slides right in front of you, so I guess in that sense you don't have to go. However I would recommend going as he asks questions and helps you understand.
He puts everything that you need to understand about the subject on the slides. The information is clear, well-organized and he explains everything well. Exam questions for the midterm were straight from his notes, and the questions were relatively fair. Didn't realize how good Landon was until the second prof started "teaching."
Good prof and does a great job teaching. Super helpful guy if you ever have any questions. Everything you need to know is provided in the notes and his tests are very fair. Whoever has been complaining about his exams, they clearly have not been studying his slides.
Be prepared to memorize his slides. Maybe it's time for me do something else for a living, probably be a hobo then take all this responsibilities of life. I'm feeling unstable and at lowest point of my life. Loved this class though :)
I did many classes with him in the physiology and all of them were awesome. Don't think you will get over 90 without studying but you must be sure that he is reasonable and logic in the material and the exams He is willing to help the students all the time. Materials are clear. His teaching is interesting for me. Respect the students. I go 94.
His slides have so much information on them it's absolutely ridiculous. Not just 5 or 6 points probably about 20-30. It looked like there were essays written on every slide. Even if you studied the entire powerpoint doing well on his exams was brutal unless you're one of those unbelievably smart people. Was always there for you outside of class tho
His notes and his lectures were pretty confusing and it was hard to do well on the exams, but he at least tries really hard to make the class interesting. He is also willing to help students outside of class whenever needed.
I really enjoy this prof. He only tests from his slides. He however is a little sneaky and will test you on information that is in a picture and not written on his slides so you have to make sure you thoroughly understand diagrams in his slideshows. His tests can be tricky but if you study enough they are easy. He also uses tophat which I like
Very clear lectures. Really reiterates points that are important. Allows time for processing concepts, doesn't move too quickly through the lectures. Young and down to earth, so his examples are relevant and entertaining. Would take his class again.
I can't say enough good things about Landon. He is a great educator, however, this course is difficult and requires a lot of time and effort. Landon never tests you on something he doesn't teach. All his exam questions come from his slides and is exam is fair. I used the textbook to supplement lectures, but not necessary.
Landon is a great prof! His tests are very straightforward and fair. Everything he tests on is directly from his lecture notes. He does a review class before every midterm and really emphasizes what he is going to test on. The course is a heavy load, so it is hard yes. But, he does a great job at making it manageable.
His notes are scattered, but they are almost entirely from the textbook. 95% of his exam questions require recognition of broad concepts (rote memorization of his powerpoint slides). The remaining 5% require reasoning and/or remembering small details. Uses Tophat questions in class and puts 1 - 2 of these on exams. Solid presenter. Approachable.
Landon does an excellent job, as a student you can tell he wants you to understand and be successful. He is very engaging and goes out of his way to accomodate sucesss. If you are attentive and listen well in the lectures you will be successful.
Be ready to memorize at least 60 slides a week to stay on top of material. He jams a lot of information onto every slide. Did not enjoy his lectures at all and couldn't wait to be done after a year of physiology with him.
Landon is a great prof and knows his stuff extremely well!! However, the course is difficult and you have to put in the work to get a high grade. His notes are great, but it can be helpful to reference the textbook when the material gets confusing or overwhelming.
This class is ridiculous, way too much information and a cumulative final. He doesn't explain how any of the concepts work so you resort to memorizing. His exams are always worded in a way to throw you off. No lecture capture for a year long course of 500+ people. It just doesn't make sense. You have to review everyday to do well.
He uses TopHat which is an easy 5% attendance grade, and contains questions that will likely show up on exams. Going to lecture is beneficial because he does a great job of explaining complex diagrams. Tests were fair, the final asked a lot of more general questions. Make sure to know the difference between L and T type channels!!!
Landons an amazing professor. His lectures were very insightful, and his class was truly a pleasure to be in. This class takes a lot of diligent studying, but the material is enjoyable and Landon presents it in an intriguing manner. Definitely recommend taking a class with him.
Landon does a really good job of explaining tough concepts and will review anything in depth if someone doesn't understand. He used some humour to lighten the lectures which was nice. You could tell he really wanted everyone to do well. Study the slides (not textbook) and you will do fine. Would def take again!
Thanks for everything Landon. First uni class that really interested me and made it easy for me to pick a major. Such a chill guy and super fair on exams. Great way to start the morning even if its way too early. For sure going to miss coming to this class every MWF next year.
Landon teaches the class very well for the amount of content that has to be covered. The textbook is a great resource, but you only need to study the slides. Make sure you understand and not just memorize the information, there is alot of content so start off early. He also explains things beyond the slide, so dont skip. Overall, a great prof.
Rushes... I mean.... raps through lectures. He doesn't seem too excited about answering questions in my opinion, however he does give out details about what part is or is not going to be part of the exam (which I know a lot of students appreciate).
Probably one of the smartest people I've had to teach me. He explains concepts so well and with much eloquence that its like he isn't even trying. His exams are fair, and make sure you study from the slides! Very approachable and responds to emails well
the material of the class is super interesting, the tests are fair/straightforward. the class is well taught
His material is pretty straight forward. His tests are a bit challenging but they are manageable as long as you learn everything off of his slides (he doesn't really test on the basics of any subject really).
Great prof. Course material is tough. You will do better if you go to class; although it is not mandatory. All multiple choice.
Landon is the smartest dude I've ever met. Amazing lectures, but it is just SO much to learn. Keep on top of the class to do well. Final is easier than the midterms which is nice, but it being a year-long class makes for a lot of content. He's amazing tho, and the content is very interesting! 5% participation bonus is nice too.
The material isn't too hard, but it's the lack of enthusiasm he teaches with that really messes you up. The tutorials are helpful, and everything comes from the slides, but his monotone voice and body language kinda feel like he doesn't want to be there. A good professor, but the lack of enthusiasm makes it hard to really engage.
He's a great professor, he teaches the material well and makes some pretty hilarious jokes throughout some lectures. The course itself moves quickly but he does a good job of keeping a steady pace and gives many opportunities to ask questions during lectures.
Most people have said this already but he is so dull. His lack of enthusiasm really curbs your learnin. There's so much material that he covers but he does so in a calm and timely manner. Exams are extremely tough and if you skip class might as well drop. Top hat questions are easy but there free grades basically. Never taking a class with him agai
He did a great job for such a heavy 2 term class. His lectures were 100% helpful, and you dont need to waste $200 on the textbook if you attend class and study from his lecture slides. Couldnt really emphasize what you needed to know for the midterm/final because basically everything was important. Will sit down and go over your midterms with you!
I took PHSI 208 online with Dr. Baillie and I have to say that it was a good overall experience for my first online class. Make sure you study hard, there are definitely questions that tripped me up on the exams.
Very challenging course. Landon summarizes the textbook notes quite nicely, so buying the textbook isn't necessary. Teaches with an evident lack of enthusiasm, making an 8:30AM class difficult to stay awake in. Tests are difficult & examine the finer details... Lots of applicative-type questions. However, assignments are a nice mark-booster.
This class is extremely volume heavy! With Covid 19 this year, Landon handled it very poorly. He did not let students know how he was going to re-weigh the class until after the final... He gave us LESS time to write the final than his midterms! And the final was different for every student. Memorize everything from textbook is my only advice.
Landon is an amazing prof! His tests are very fair, he responds quickly to emails, and the textbook isn't needed. Don't memorize, just focus on understanding. He handled the covid-19 pandemic well. He clearly stated all course changes by email well before the final exam, and also made the final non-cumulative, identical to the other midterms.
Landon Baillie is a great prof to have. Although there was some backlash from some students from the way he handled COVID-19, I believe he did what he thought was best for the students without making it a breeze for us (which is something a prof should do). He's always willing to answer any questions and was very clear when describing expectations.
Landon is a good prof. Class isn't hard at all, just content heavy. Would suggest buying textbook to help for the online assignments, and lecture capture makes good for review. Only suggestion is sometimes difficult to know what you are expected to know. Overall great class, also handled COVID-19 well.
The material was interesting and was presented in a way that was easy to understand. Unfournatley he was extremely monotone, and it made it hard to stay engaged in the material. I appreciated the use of Tophat to offset the monotony.
Landon was a pretty good prof. The use of TopHat in lectures kept me engaged because it was quite easy to zone out. The only assignments you have to worry about are online and only occur every 2-3 weeks. So much information in this course and studying for the 3 midterms takes a lot of time. I thought Landon was fair and nice prof overall.
Amazing professor that I would highly recommend. He gave very clear and informative lectures and was always willing to go over a concept again if you did not understand. There is a lot of content to know for this class, but he does a good job of breaking it down and spends time reviewing before midterms.
Amazing prof who really puts in a lot of effort into his teaching! He is easily accessible outside of class! The course is very heavy so stay on top of everything and you'll be fine! his exams are fair and straightforward if you study! memorize and understand everything!
80 questions, 80 minutes for a final pretty much sums this guy up.
As far as teaching goes, he's fine. However, in a semester where most other profs are giving more time to complete finals and midterms due to the lack of services and irl classes due to covid, he feels the need to make the exams more difficult by compacting them to a ridiculous extent. If you have test anxiety avoid if possible.
as a teacher he is pretty makes complex concepts simpler which is nice since the course is so content heavy. However, he puts things on the exams that he said we didnt need to know or was said in passing, a little disappointing. Also 80 minutes for a 80 questions final is very problematic.
Landon does well as a lecturer, but as a professor he is unbelievably unfair. He does not take into consideration that COVID-19 is causing an unprecedented amount of stress on students, and continues to create an 80 question, 80 minute final exam. Lectures/slides seem surface level compared to the detail required for the final/midterm. Bad bad bad.
Dr. Baillie covers all the material that you need to know in his lectures and notes however I found the textbook useful for understanding the concepts better. I thought that the 80 question final in 80 minutes was fair and if you study well then it is more than enough time to finish. He was better than other BMSC profs regarding remote learning.
80 questions in 80 minutes hurt. He repeats important concepts in lectures over and over good. Talks really fast in lecture someone mentions he "raps" which I agree. Sometimes mixed his words up in lectures which got confusing. Very communicative with questions, sent lots of emails AND had a discussion board. Cared we understood material.
Dr. Baillie is not a lecturer by any means. I did not appreciate that with the shift to online learning he did not take the time to record new lectures and just used old ones in which he would often say "look over at this" but we couldn't tell what he was pointing to. The final was really hard! I am a good student but I studied and still did badly.
He is one of the worst professors I've ever had. His Final and midterm were absolutely horrible considering we had only 80 min for 8o questions. The questions were extremely wordy and long and very detailed for a minute per question. I had studied really hard for this class and still ended up with a low grade.
this Professor has to be the absolute worst prof I have ever witnessed in my life. Yes this man clearly is extremely smart and knows what he is talking about-- however it was RIDICULOUS this man had the audacity to make a final 80 minutes-80 questions- students take more than a minute to read a question, he has absolutely no caring bone in his body
His exams were TERRIBLE. He posted old lectures from last year which was annoying because he often referred to something on the slide which we couldn't even see. Therefore, it was confusing to follow. He made the exams unreasonably difficult and way too detailed considering there was 1 min per question. Overall his exams were extremely unfair.
Handled remote learning by posting old lectures and splitting it to modules. Class is content heavy so make sure you UNDERSTAND the concept not just memorize. Didn't really like him as a prof as his midterm was 40 question for 40 min and final was 80 qs for 80 min and you'll be rushed at the end. Wouldn't give extra time either even if u asked
I found his exams very unfair. Midterm was 40 questions in 40 minutes, final was 80 questions in 80 minutes which was nowhere near enough time. Not only was the time limit for the exam short the questions he asked were very specific and extremely difficult. I think he would be a better prof in person but was hard to learn from him online.
This class is very very content heavy. The textbook taught me significantly more than he did. If you have test anxiety, or need an average amount of time to complete a test, absolutely avoid this prof. He gave 40 minutes for a 40 question midterm, worth 35% and 80 minutes for an 80 question final, worth 50%. Very unrealistic for time & professor.
Really good lecturer not a great prof. Lectures were not difficult to understand even though he does go through material fast. Final was 80 questions in 80 minutes and was brutal and worth 50%! Super detailed options and anyone who takes their time to read through choices would really struggle. I'm an 80-90's student and found this exam unfair.
The final and midterm exam were not too difficult. If you studied the material consistently throughout the semester and took the time to understand concepts rather than memorize, an 80+ was definitely do-able. My classmates clearly don't know how to take timed exams. 1 min per question is more than enough time! The tutorial sessions helped a lot.
80 questions in 80 minutes on the final exam was more than enough time. Interestingly, no one complained about the midterm (which had 40 questions in 40 minutes). Don't let these reviews fool you--if you put in the work, you'll get a good grade. Understand concepts rather than trying to memorize them and attend the tutorials if you're confused!!!
I dont understand students that complain about the time to answer questions: in both exams ( midterm and final) you had to answer a multiple choice question in one minute. The reality is that you dont need more than 20 sec to answer the question ( that is if you know the material). As a professor he is truly extraordinary- a very good prof!
I don't understand any of you bagging on Dr. Baillie. Man gets through a metric tonne of information quickly, clearly, and in a concise manner. Yes the information is heavy and yes the lectures are dense, this is just the nature of CPPS/PHPY though. I loved Dr. Baille's teaching style and wish he taught more upper levels PHPY/CPPS.
Landon is fine as a lecturer, and I'm sure is better in a classroom setting. That being said, BMSC 207 for the first semester of online learning was less than ideal. Feels like there is little to no care put into the class, as all material is just old lectures from years past dumped into modules, and is very abrupt in communications to students.
Good lecturer, and honestly wants the best for his students and cares about feedback. However, not the best at constructing tests that accurately assess his teaching.
Landon does a fair job of explaining things, and stating what is important and what isn't. I do appreciate that he says " this is just information, don't worry about writing it down" However, his tests are the one thing that make him a bad instructor. He does not make his tests easy, and its honestly hard to know where his questions come from.
He got lots of hate after the midterm (which was a killer) but he took our advice and that was appreciated as I got a better mark in the final. With that being said, the class is lecture heavy so get ready to watch, read & understand notes and textbook if you want to get a decent mark. It would have been nice to have synchro. lecture 4 this class.
Tests are extremely hard. He barely communicates with students. For lectures online, i'm paying full tuition to have them prerecorded from years prior. He is clear about what you need to learn but constantly jumps from topic to topic even on just one slide and then will recite, "you won't need to know that". I would never recommend this proff.
what can I say except that this class was disappointing. I would suggest that you find yourself a better prof cause he really can't be bothered. any concerns you bring up will be answered with "statistically fair". his notes are unclear and have no logical rhythm so you can't really understand him without rewatching his videos. overall, very poor
He didn't really make a whole lot of adjustments to take the pandemic into account. His lectures were good to listen to and take notes from. However, his tests did not allow students to accurately display the knowledge they had absorbed from the course. None of my grades were that reflective of the material I knew. Basically, tests are awful.
The guy obviously knows his stuff but his lectures have no flow whatsoever. I think that a roadmap would make this class so much better, really hard to see the bigger picture. The worst part about this, is that his test questions are very difficult and require you to know how everything is connected very well.
hes a good prof but his tests are extremely hard. The questions take allot of thinking and reasoning to do and go in depth into the concepts which wouldn't be bad but you don't have allot of time to think when its a 60 question in 60 minute test.
Honestly, Dr. Baillie does a fantastic job of breaking down complex physiological mechanisms and pathways. Is the class hard? Yes. You will def need to put in the extra time to truly understand the material. But Landon does not make it harder. People who say tests are fair most likely didnt study or didnt study well enough.
Worst prof to have. Explains things nicely in lectures but the midterm is 40% and final is 50%. Midterm 40 questions in 45 minutes. Not enough time and no back tracking. Very hard for students to show what they've learned unless very familiar with the content. Definitely have to work for it if you want a good grade.
midterms and finals are very difficult, it would be better if he gave us more time. it is extremely hard to answer every question to the best of your ability if u are racing against the clock. the PowerPoints he gives and lectures are good. but we need more time for the exams, or at least give us the ability to backtrack. badly formatted exams.
the class is extremely difficult conceptually and it doesn't help that the final questions actually make you think but you only get one minute per question on the online exam. This is the hardest 200 level bmsc class i have taken and to make it worse you are graded on minimal things, if you dont need the class dont take it.
This is a hard class but you can be successful by reading the textbook and paying attention to slides. Everything you need to know is in the slides, so don't blame Prof Baillie if you don't do well. He is happy to help you outside of class with concepts you're struggling with.
Absolutely ridiculous for a 200 level bmsc class. I have taken 6 BMSC classes at the 200 level, this one was the most ridiculous. I say this due to the tests being EXTREMELY poorly designed. Instead of writing a proper test that accurately tests ability this professor loves to tighten the time limit of the exams that are in person or online.
In person exams do not have enough time granted to them. I understand time limiting online exams but time limiting in person exams makes them way too difficult to think through. He's a decent guy but really doesn't seem to get how these tests feel.
Took the online version of this class and attended a couple of in person ones. It is way better to take his class in person from what I observed. Also, the learning objectives for the class really help in studying the material. I think Dr. Baillie is pretty fair with grading. He also responds to emails fast which is nice.
There's a ton of content in these classes but it's possible to do well if you memorize literally everything plus understand the interactions. Both courses take a ton of time. 207 is tough all the way through, first half of 208 is easier but gets tough again after the midterm. Landon explains everything well, there's just a silly amount of material.
The lectures get a little dry at times but he has a ton of material to get through. 208 is easier than 207. Baillie does a great job of getting though the material, explains everything fair, and the tests were as expected.
Good and very intelligent prof. 207 and 208 has so much detailed information and hard concepts. It's definitely possible to do well in the class. The course is mostly based on the final and midterm, assignments are a small portion of the course. I found the exams very difficult. He really made the questions hard and the wording very difficult.
Amazing prof, but its a hard class.
Had him for BMSc 207 and 207, and definitely one of the best professors I've ever had. He explains everything very clearly and goes into enough detail to understand everything but not too in depth that you get confused and miss the main idea/topic.
Explains everything very clearly, and the tests are extremely fair but a little tricky. As long as you study the powerpoints and are able to explain the processes you will be fine on the exam but some questions require thinking outside the box.
He teaches and explains the material you need for the exam very well. The course requires a lot of work and you need to have a good understanding of the material to succeed. Very test heavy since the marks are mostly coming from the midterm and final. Exams are a little tricky but overall a pretty good teacher.
Great professor. Good notes and knows when to stop explaining to not confuse the students (explains just enough). Exams are tough and heavy (its a 40/60 class). You have got to understand the material as a whole - blatant memorization will not take you far in his class (although it is required). Watch the lectures super attentively and study lots!
Landon is a great professor. He explains stuff thoroughly and knows when to stop to not confuse second year students with such complex material. Watch his lectures VERY carefully and take good notes. DON'T JUST MEMORIZE (if you do, you will do horribly) - UNDERSTAND THE INS-AND-OUTS OF EVERY CONCEPT. Awesome prof! Tough class though!
One of the best professors Ive ever had in university. Explains everything clearly and gives us all the information we need to know. The hard part is studying and making sure that you know everything in the slides, the questions are reflective of the course content for sure, just make sure you know everything - even small details and numbers.
Amazing professor. His lectures are clear, and his slides include what you need to know. There's no need to read the textbook because he is very thorough in his explanations, and exams are fair game if you studied enough. He talks fast, so be prepared to have to attend lectures and take limited notes.
His lectures are clear, and he explains concepts in enough detail that the textbook isn't necessary. Learning objectives are suitable for testing your understanding, but doing well will require you to understand concepts AND memorize facts. Not very accommodating in terms of midterm exam scheduling. Otherwise, good prof.
Good prof who knows the material very well. I would advise future students to understand concepts (the framework) rather than memorize because the tests can be very tricky if you only memorize.
Horrible prof. Almost no support midterm questions were apparently pulled out of nowhere but definitely not in the slides. Assignments are due on randomized dates instead of a specific day of the week. Asking for further explanation through email was like talking to a brick wall. Thank god this class is over
One of the most straightforward lecturers I've had so far. He makes expectations for what you should study on the exams clear. Sometimes the wording can be confusing, but otherwise fair. The online modules in particular were presented well and the post lecture panopto quizzes are a nice touch to help confirm your basic understanding of the lecture
Good lecturer, terrible exam writer. You study the content but then a good amount of the exam is not about whether you understand the processes but whether you remember exactly what he wrote/said. If you think exactly like Landon Baillie or have a photographic memory, you'll do fine. Heaven forbid you interpret the questions differently, good luck.
good prof... u ll need to work hard for the course
Baillie is a good lecturer, however exams are so confusing & harder than expected (would give him a 3.5/5). Really understand the lecture content & read carefully exactly what the question is asking (1 word will change which the right answer). He speaks really fast but lectures are recorded. Don't take his class if you don't need to -Kin student
Average prof, but no one else teaches 207. Two midterms and a final, the questions all felt like trick questions and were extremely poorly written. Your grade does not reflect your knowledge at all in this course! I enjoy the content in this course, just wish the exams weren't so awful. Do not take this class unless you NEED to.
The only professor for this course and Mr. Baille's teaching is not up to the par the way he's making the test.
Baillie gives really fantastic lectures and thoroughly explains all topics. His exams are very fair and if you understand, not just memorize, you will do completely fine as he only uses his lectures as testable material. I would reccomend doing the assignments so you can have some weight taken off the midterm and final. Overall really solid prof!
Landon is a really great professor and had fair exams. I agree that the content can be challenging at times, but just understand the concepts and apply the knowledge rather than memorizing them and you'll realize that the exams themselves really aren't that difficult.
Lectures can be verbose and the slides appear to be a regurgitation of the textbook. Tests are fine if you prepare adequately. Lacks communication skills in my opinion.
Great professor and lectures, he really wants you to do well and answers questions effectively. Show up to all the lectures, and participate in the assignments/poll everywhere (without looking through your material to be able to see what you need to prioritize in your studying) and you'll do great.
Landon was the first professor who made me understand the core concepts of physiology. He made my years of university physiology classes make sense. He gets into the "why", which is extremely useful to understanding complex concepts. He's very fair and his tests reflect his content. No surprises, as long as you understand the basics! 10/10 prof
He's very tough prof, and sets his exam from no-where. I took that class and somehow managed to pass it. you need to have a photographic memory to pass it, as you have to remember what he said, because you probably won't find it on slides. you have to attend the class daily to pass it. DO NOT TAKE IT UNLESS YOU HAVE TO !!
Had Dr. Baille for 207/208. Dr. Baillie is good at lecturing and delivering content but when it comes to his exams, they are awful. The exams are difficult because some questions are asked in a confusing way, resulting in a lower score than you would expect. The only fair exam was the 1st midterm of 208, which he said was "too easy".
Dr Baillie knows his stuff and delivers the content needed to do well in the class. With 208 its hard to know what the important stuff is. Study everything (unless he says you wont be tested on it), all fair game. Show up to all the lectures and do the participation and assignments to take weighting off the exams (which are hard and confusing)
This is the worst prof at usask, avoid him at all costs. He does not reply to emails and is extremely rude. He makes his exams extremely tough and does not actually care about your success.
Midterms are hard, a lot of application and slight detailed memorization. First midterm was all nervous system, second midterm muscle was mostly covered but somehow still was mostly nervous system. Midterms are worth a lot too. Good luck if you have him.
Best prof ever!!! I admit this class is quite detail orientated but if you understand the basic concepts and then study the details of each concept quite thoroughly, you should do exceptionally well in this class. Active recall is key in this class and Baille's lectures really help you understand the material really welll!
This professor is amazing. His lectures were exceptional and he was able to explain difficult content clearly. He was always open to answering questions and was extremely accommodating. He wants his students to do well, and has four different grading schemes to ensure that students get the highest grade possible. Take this professor.
explained hard topics in very understandable and simple terms. overall in teaching skills, amazing. The tests are hard! you have to have a deep understanding of the material rather than memorize it. They are not impossible to do well, but it does take time. excited to see him again in 208
Landon can test pretty hard, but it definitely feels like he's helping prepare you for harder courses. He dishes out true understanding over simple memorization and illustrates how interconnected the human body is. Getting a good grade isn't too hard if you keep up with the material. DO THE OPTIONAL ASSIGNMENTS they're very helpful.
found his lectures to be engaging enough. tests are pretty tough. textbook helped me a lot.
He's honestly very good at explaining topics to make it interesting. Tests really aren't that hard if you try to link and understand concepts rather than just memorize.
Expect a challenging course with tough exams. Attend all lectures and use resources like the textbook and Unstuckstudy to succeed. Grading may not fully reflect your understanding, but the content is engaging if you stay engaged.
Honestly, people who do poorly in the course likely have issues with their own study methods or dedication. If using a method to at works for you, great marks are more than achievable. Bailie makes lectures enjoyable and links topics wonderfully. Very easy to understand concepts.
If you do the assignments, participate in the polls and study, you can do really well in this class. Questions on the exams are pretty straight forward and you should understand them if you know the content, which he makes sure to explain really well and uses different methods to do so. He'll explain it by using numbers, graphs and by description.
This guy is one of the best profs at Usask. His tests are hard but everything is based off stuff he teaches in lecture so its fair. He's also always accessible after class or through emails which is nice. I would happily take this guy with any physiology class
Dr. Bailie's ability to breakdown difficult physiological systems into “roles” in which specific structures (that often have tongue twisting names) made my learning experience great. Through the details of his lectures, you will notice the subtle but incredible works (though details are only general at this level) that human body is capable of.
Landon is an amazing professor. yes BMSC is a very hard class but Landon teaches it very well. he breaks everything down and his midterms are always on content we have learned. make sure you study all the diagrams and words on the pictures he inserts because those are fair game for the exams!
He explains topics very clearly and with personal interest. Also, must attend his review session before exam, pretty straightforward no trick questions!
He typically races through his lectures. Barely ever uses punctuation in his sentences, literally skimping through parts of the course that are really important. Found it especially hard to stay focussed because his classes are just generally boring, which is him just fighting against time to try & spew a trillion words in under 50 minutes.
Academic op for sure. 100% sure he enjoys watching students struggle. Lectures were okay, but the tests were confusing, with trick questions and questions with multiple answers that were right (like an and c). You'll have to teach yourself most of the material he typically breezes over what he tests. Don't take this unless you've got lots of time.
I really enjoyed bmsc 207 and 208! I actually think the tests were quite fair, the finals were a bit tricky but nothing that wasn't covered in class. It is a very content heavy course, but if you use the recorded lectures and make sure you have good notes you can do well. He also has participation and optional assignments to boost your grade.
He is very knowledgeable. The structures of exams are based on verbal, text (from images), and text information. The course contains heavy material, brace yourself as Dr. Baillie goes over the contants really fast. The exams are straightforward but also requires critical thinking moment. Personally, his lectures are fun and easy to understand.
Okay prof, Tough course. Make sure to understand the concepts before memorizing; otherwise, memorization alone will be useless to do well on the exam. Like the other ratings suggest, the exams are all detail-oriented, and you won't be able to answer the questions properly if you don't have a high understanding of the material.
He is very passionate about the content and has a deep knowledge for it, his lecture slides are well made and organized and he provides a plethora of resources such as lecture recordings and live zoom meetings which gives you the option of learning at your own pace or context. Hard class though so be prepared to study.
