You don't turn anything in for grades till end of semester. She graded papers super easy,hardly any B's in my class.

She allows you to draft your papers throughout the term. You determine your grade. The weight of your portfilio determine your letter grade.

she is really nice, and very open minded to all ideas, her class is a fun writing class, she really likes creativity, but grades very hard... but most of the grade is how much work you put into it not all of it comes from what you finally get out bc she understands that some have a hard time w/ writ

Mrs. Grate is a very crazy and mysterious teacher. Her class is very straight forward and all of your papers are due at the end of the semester. The class is an easy A if you do all of your papers. Your grade is determined by the weight of your portfolio.

Extremely fun teacher, most papers came from movie themes, Run Lola Run, Harold and Maude, or personal experiences. Grades based on effort always previews your papers. Enjoys creative writing, she is a little strange to some people, but I loved this class enough to get up at 8:00am everyday.

Very easy A, the more you write the better you do, doesnt matter if it is good or not.

Absolutely loved this class! The topics of the paper makes the students think out of the box. By the end of the semester she wants her students to have open minds towards almost anything. You're only graded by your final portfolio, which shows how your writing or ideas changed over the semester.

Not only do I hate writing, but I also suck at it. As long as you put effort into her class and have all the required drafts, you'll get an A. Very open minded, emphasizes creativity.

not bad, but if you don't like writing drafts, you shouldn't take her. 6-7 drafts required for EACH paper that you MUST have. grading is subjective. she's very open minded and pretty helpful, but remember: if you don't like drafts or want a concrete grading rubric, don't take this class; it's uneccessary work for a gen ed comp class.

Great professor to take for Comp. 1! She will help make you a better writing by offering great suggestions to add more detail to papers. I would recommend taking this class to anyone!

She is a wonderful professor. Yes, you will be required to write at least right 4 major papers and you will have to draft each one to perfection. At the end of the semester she requires a portfolio, in which she grades according to your progress and revisions. I would recommend her. She is very helpful and will help you to become a better writer.

She gets you involved in class. She also make you work together so you can get to know the people in your class. She gives you like 5 papers a semester but they aren't due until the end. During the semester you do a bunch of rewrites to make sure your paper is perfect at the end.

She is a GREAT teacher! i would take her again for any writing class. i am a biology major and hated writing in high school, but i loved it in college. Just do not slack in her class and you will do fine. I have to say that the topics she gave for you to write on were very interesting!

I took her for college writing and she made this class extremely easy! Your final grade is based on the thickness of your binder!

I took her for College Writing. Her class was pretty easy. We had to watch 2 interesting movies and write about them, that was somewhat difficult.

She is a crazy crazy teacher and I love her. The topics she picks to discuss in class are very interesting. You'll never be bored. She doesn't really take up work until the end of the semester so you can work on your assignments whenever. You can really get involved in this class.

Wonderful professor! I had her for Comp. I and II and I enjoyed both courses. If miss a few classes its not all that bad but don't miss too many. She is always willing to help, in fact, we are still in contact to this day and she is a good reference provider :)

Superb teacher, but very unorthodox. If you're one of those anal students that needs a grade on everything, don't take the class. If you're a student that can't write anything without the teacher holding your hand through it, don't take this class. Your grade comes down to how well you perfected your writing through revision. Highly recommended.

if you have an interest in writing and want to learn, take Prof. Grate.she encourages class involvement. I recommend Grate for writing. She is a great choice and I looked forward to class! we watched some movies, went on a field trip and played games in class.

Dr. Lanette Grate is absolutely wonderful. With her help, my writing has greatly improved. I am now considering becoming a writing minor because of her. Her class is not hard. You never have homework, quizzes, or tests. You will write many papers, but that's for all Comp. 1 classes. She is very educated instructor, and is always helpful.

Professor Grate is great. She definitely sticks to her name. She is so wacky. She is by far the best teacher i have ever had. She is so helpful and fun at the same time. I had her last semester and always looked forward to her classes i maybe missed one. She made me actually like writing rather than despise it. I recommend her extremely.

Dr. Grate is a "GRATE" teacher. although she may have you revise many times, she is there to help you if you need anything. EVERY paper that you write in her class she meets with you personally about. She encourages everyone to be different. She does not censor you in many of your papers. Dr. Grate is a good professor. Take her of you enjoy writing

I love Dr. Grate! Sure there is a lot of work involved in her comp 2 class, but her humor makes it so worth it. The only class I have never wanted to fall asleep in, and honestly she is my favorite professor

She is very very hard to please. It seems like no paper is good enough and she wants you to pretty much rewrite each paper. She is available but not much help in my opinion. Very demanding class. She made me hate writing papers

I CANT believe what these people are saying. She made me absolutely LOVE writing which is something i never though possible. Class discussions you can talk about ANYTHING on your mind and I mean anything. You do multiple drafts of a paper and she gives helpful feedback each draft. Easy class if you do all drafts. If you get a chance, TAKE GRATE

Dr. Grate is a wonderful professor, she is extremely helpful! Yes her class does require a lot of revision sometimes, but it's for the purpose of making you a better writer. She doesn't do it to be spiteful or mean. I thoroughly enjoyed her class and her method.

She is an amazing teacher and is really funny. You do have to work for the grades you get, but she helps improve your writing immensely!

She is alright, pretty nice yet a very hard grader. expect to write a lot of papers. don't procrastinate.

At first I strongly disliked Grate. But now, I adore her. She picks these topics that seem awful but really she is just making us think for ourselves. She is probably one of the best instructors I've had the privilege of meeting. She's quirky and she doesn't accept work that sucks. So just don't suck. :)

If you want your writing improved, take Dr. Grate. It's not all about the grades, it really is what you can learn and she is the best teacher to help you through this. I would also say be ready to write a lot of papers but that is the point. To improve your writing! To be honest, they were times I got tired but her assignments are always relevant.

She wasn't the easiest class in the world, but if you had any questions she would answer.

She's honestly the best writing teacher I've ever had. She improved my writing since day 1 and I would definitely take her class again if I could. She was always clear with her instructions and what she expected out of the class. Loved this class, also she'll keep you up to date with current events as well.

If you aren't willing to work, don't take her. You get an assignment every class that's due the next class (assign Mon due Wed) She uses contract grading so to get an A, you have to write four papers that are of A quality. That can be confusing, but if you ask, she'll help. Overall great teacher Pretty funny at times and helpful. Would take again

Tough course, I wanted to quit several times on certain assignments but the course did improve my writing greatly. You just have to put in the work to get the grade, trust me it will get stressful but it feels amazing when you complete the class. Also, she grades differently so can be a bit confusing but she will explain.

A sweet old lady, fair and open-minded. The only problems with the class will lie within your classmates.

One of the best professors I've had. I had to go to her office for more help on peer review day; all my peers were in there for credit & wrote like middle schoolers. She strengthened my writing skills & was respectful to me as a transgender student. Her class is political, but for a good reason it's easier to write politically driven folks :-)

I love Dr. Grates class! Yes she does get political but if you can properly defend your opinion in your papers she will give you a good grade. She is funny and sweet. I enjoyed every assignment in this class. If you do the work and go everyday you will pass.

Dr. Grate is an amazing professor. She is very political at times, but that might also be because she teaches another class that is politically driven. Her grading method is clear, keep up with all your papers and assignments, attend class, and youll pass. i would 100% take her again

I LOVED HER!!! she was so nice and the class is fun. Her topics are fun and easy to write about. You will revise, ALOT. Attend class and do the homework and keep up with everything, you will be fine.

I took Dr. Grate for WRTG 1310 and loved her so much I'm taking her for 1320. She is super engaging with lectures, even online. She has a very clear grading system and gives good feedback. She can be political, but if you can back up what you believe, you'll be fine. An easy A for me! I really enjoyed most of the papers.
