She gave an impossible load of homework, but her tests were easy.
Impossible to please, no tolerence for mistakes and is the university's homework NAZI. Treats you like you are in junior high school. She fits in well with the rest of the math dept.
dude, she takes TARDIES that add up to absences. she gives pop quizzes as 'punishment'. she is too funny. for halloween, we put a broom in the classroom, she got the point.
only assigns relevant homework, goes over everything until it's clear, gives good reviews before tests, gives bonus credit, if students have questions she always makes time to help
She is very hard, but very good.
Tough professor.... She gives lots of homework and it determines a large percentage of your grade. As long as you do all the homework and put a forth an effort on the tests, I don't see how you could fail her class.
doesnt mind making people look bad if they ask a question that she thinks you should know.double standards. if she likes you its good, if she doesnt, too bad.
Mrs. Presson is the queen of homework but a very good professor.
I had her for a lot of classes the homework is not the issue or her liking you or not.It all comes down to she is going to teach you learn it and there is immediate turn around on the test or a quiz so you cant fall behind.I learned the most in her class
Great professor! Gives lots of hmwk but teaches you how to do it. You will learn in this class. Don't believe the bad things you hear about her, they usually come from ppl who don't like to try.
very good teacher, she gives homework for every lesson and takes it up, but she always gives you at least 2 class days to do it, the homework can be tough, but the test are a lot easier than the homework
she gives good homework problems, but grades them like a psycho. i make A's on the tests but i have like a c homework grade because if you mess up at all you lose so many points. good teacher, but be ready to work hard on homework.
Yes, she's famous for giving homework, but there's a reason why people say they learn from her and complain about the others. She's good. Go to class, do your work, and you'll be fine.
Homework counts 25% of your grade. Do it no matter what. If too many people skip on a day, she'll give pop quizzes, which in general are not unusual. But if you have her and pass, you've learned the material.
She's a good professor to take if you enjoy learning math. She is as people say, a stickler for homework, but you should be doing it anyway. So, I look at it like a bunch of free points on your grade. Basically go to class do the homework and read the book and you'll be fine.
haha she was one of the cooler teachers ive taken at UAH. just dont rag on her about liking University of Arkansas cuz she'll rip you a new one!
Do your homework every day and she's easy.
She's dead set on doing homework, but you have to do homework in math anyway. The best math teacher you could take.
My favorite math teacher. Do your homework as the tests come directly from it. No BS either. She's witty and charming, along with being friendly.
One of my favorite teachers of all time! She is very understanding and kind. She has been teaching for a long time and it shows. She doesn't put up with people not doing their work, but if you do your homework, the tests are easy!
She was a fabulous teacher, i dreaded taking Calculus but she was such a great teacher i'm taking Cal B with her. She takes up homework everyday, but if you do everything you end up with a great grade. She's funny and really cares about her students. She's great!
She is absolutely the homework nazi, but she's a really great teacher. I really learned a lot from her. Would highly recommend to any student who isn't too lazy to do homework.
I had her for Cal B. She does give a lot of homework, but she is a better teacher than Odell. Lanita Presson is wonderful. I would definitely recommend her. The HW is 25% of your grade, so doing the homework is very helpful. Cal B can be tough. Remember the name PRESSON.
She gives a lot of homework, but she explains the material well. I'm taking her again for linear.
This is an excellent teacher to get for Cal B if you are serious bout doing the work otherwise, why even bother taking any math class. Very, very fair and helpful and gives you plenty of opportunities for extra credit. Ms. Presson knows her stuff too and has a good attitude about teaching. I highly recommend, but you will have to do the work.
She's a good teacher, but I would recommend her for Cal B more than Linear Algebra, she loves proof problems and thinks that your employer expects you to prove everything, when they actually don't care. Memorize your proof problems for your tests, they come straight from your homework.
She really cares about her students and will help out whenever needed.
By far the Best math teacher I have ever had. She explains everything throughly and makes classes as interesting as they can be. she does make you work and gives homework, but this forces you to learn the material. PP
Are you people serious that you think she is good? By far the WORST professor I have encountered at UAH. She makes test way harder than they have to be and words them confusingly while giving you the hardest possible problems from the partially taught material. Stay away but take at your own risk if you want!
Worst professor I had at UAH. Overly difficult, ungodly amounts of homework. I took her Cal B class and was borderline D/F. Took it with someone else and made a B+. If you like pain, her classes are for you.
She was a good teacher. I had her for MA 244 and MA 171. She does give allllllloooooootttt of homework, so purchasing a solutions manual would be helpful. Extra credit is given to help out homework and quiz grades. Going to her office hours is also beneficial. She's open to help anyone who wants it.
Ms. Presson is a fantastic teacher. Her tests are more difficult than those of other professors. However, if you attend class and do the homework, then you shouldn't have a problem. She gives lots of homework, but also alot of chances for extra credit.
Lanita Presson is an excellent teacher. She explains everyting thoroughly. You MUST do your homework to do good in the class. She does give a LOT, but it helps you get prepared. She is also big on proofs. Work all of them on the homework because some will be on test. She knows her stuff.
Good amount of homework, but helps everyone learn. Grading system is great, just be sure to come to class EVERY day.
Excellent teacher and I am not a math geek! She is the best teacher in the UAH math department and is totally cute!
I love Ms. Presson! She is by far my favorite teacher at UAH so far. I had her for Cal B and Linear Algebra. You have to work hard and do all the homework to do well. Her face is very expressive, and she is talented at showing disapproval. But when I made a 100 on my final, i discovered she's just as ready to show you how proud of you she is!
Mrs. Presson is an excellent teacher. She assigns a lot of homework, but she is always willing to help those who want to understand the material. A+.
Took her class a long time ago, but still remember. She is a great teacher. Very good at explaining stuff. Make sure you don't get behind on the homework, though.
The absolute best! Her lectures are veyr clear. She's very willing to help her students understand and do well. Must do your homework, even though it's a lot. She grades fairly and is very consistent! The best math professor I've had!
Honestly, don't take her. She assigns a ridiculous amount of homework every day, 2-3 hours. She teaches theory instead of how to actually work the problem. Tests are a nightmare. Oh, and her voice is really annoying.
Mrs. Presson assigns a lot of homework and there are quizes every week. That being said I think she is one of the best teachers at UAH. You will learn the material if you do the work, no doubt about it. I give her an A+
teaches the material the hard way. good teacher, but ridiculous amount of homework + the fact that she expects you to spend hours trying to figure out how to do the homework and THEN tells you how you were SUPPOSED to do it. 1/2 of the time lets you turn it in afterwards. good teacher, hard class
Great teacher. very clear in her methods. only problem is that she assigns tons of homework. but that helps people to learn the material. Tests are very reasonable and easy if you do the homework.
This lady is a true gift. By all means, work your schedule around her. Her teaching methods are simply the BEST; pay attention in class, do the homework (IT'S REALLY NOT A LOT!), and it's pretty much impossible to NOT learn the material. Her tests are very fair, and she is one of the sweetest people I've ever worked with in a classroom. (MA 171/2)
Mrs. Presson is an amazing professor. Her tests are not easy but she prepares you well. She grades fairly and gives lots of partial credit. She also gives extra credit and offers review sessions outside of class. I was never a strong math student but made A's in both Calculus A and B in her classes. She goes out of her way to help you. Take her.
Do NOT take this teacher if you are wise, take Mrs, Marples or anyone else! This women has no structure in how she assigns homework, and no empathy for struggling students. She has her PETS/favorites and gives you nasty looks/and attitude! So HEED my WARNING!!! If you don't like kissing up to her than don't take her!!! you've been warned!!!
Mrs. Presson cares about every one of her students. She puts in a solid amount of review time for tests, homework, and post course work. Taking her class means you will know more about Mathematics than most other students in equal level classes. Mrs. Presson is top notch and cannot be substituted. She will make you love Math, truly. Made an A.
The people giving this woman good scores must be paid off or something. I took the a few yrs ago, & can't get ANY clarity or guidance from the crappy, convoluted notes I have. I wrote down exactly what she did on the board every day. I'm very good in Math, but I STRUGGLED to make a B in the class, and that was only b/c I was ALWAYS in her office!
mrs. presson was one of the easiest professors i had at UAH. unlike the guy below me i never once read the book and just used her notes and so far have managed an A on both her tests. she does take up homework. however if you do not know how to do a problem at the start of class she will take any questions and solve the problems on the board.
Very difficult teacher, but she does make you learn the material. You will hate the amount of homework she assigns but it is helpful. She is willing to help any student that is having trouble. Also, she sometimes schedules a review class for tests.
Mrs. Presson's classes, by most standards, aren't easy. You're not going to like the homework load, but it helps. You WILL know calc by the end of her course. She thoroughly explains all of the concepts and works homework problems in class for anyone that asks. A very helpful and clear teacher, just be prepared to actually work for your grade.
I really liked taking Presson's class. Not sure about the "hard" ratings, as I thought she was very fair. If you do the homework and go to class, you'll do well. I guess people are afraid of actually learning material ;).
One of the most difficult professors I've ever had. HOWEVER - she was always available to help, and she made sure you learned the material. Add that to her classy, kind personality and you have a recipe for how classes at college should be - challenging, with lots of learning going on, taught by a professor who cares about their students!
Took her for linear and learned so much! She does demand perfection but she is very kind and loves teaching
There were homework assignments due every week. Her tests were very difficult because she picks some questions that are exceptions to what you have already learned, making it hard to study for them. I wouldn't take her class if you are looking for an easy A.
These people giving her good ratings are on crack. This teacher is just bad. lectures are bad, notes are bad, tests are mediocre. the book saved me in this class.
Very good teacher. Fast-paced classes, stay ahead of schedule if you want a good grade.
She is the best math teacher I have ever had. She is hard but she makes sure you learn the material. She helps students that ask for it. I would highly recommend her. She makes math class fun.
Best math teacher at UAH. She explains everything in detail and answers any questions you have. Attendance is mandatory so going to class is your best objective. Tests are hard and the biggest complaint is the amount of homework she gives. But if you do it you learn it and you will do well on the tests and in the class overall.
She teaches Calculus thoroughly, using many different steps and type of problems, grading everything. There are always extra credit worksheets and review sessions before a test, and office hours. She is the best teacher I've had so far in math/engineering as a sophomore. Her personality is kind, reasonable,& sensible. I miss her!
wonderful teacher. Cal B was extensive and insightful...I definitely learned more from her classes (Cal A & Cal B) than from others (Cal C, diff eq.)--I wish she taught more. This was my money's worth & the BEST professor I've had so far (vs. Phys,Ch,etc) Just treat this class like it's worth it--cause it really is.
Best math teacher I've ever had. She makes sure you learn the material and really cares that you do. She is easy to understand and you will do well if you try. Do not take this class looking for an easy A. Take it if you want your money's worth and a great understanding of calculus.
Presson is the hardest teacher I've ever had. She IS a good teacher but assigns so much homework I had to rush thru it just to finish. The exams are extremely hard. I went to class, did the homework, and studied for hours just to struggle for a C. I'm taking Calc B at UAB this semester and I'm getting an easy A. Don't take Presson for anything.
Took Presson for Cal A, Cal B, and Linear and she is the best math professor I've ever had. She assigns a lot of homework that you turn in for credit, but the grades help your average. She is fair and always willing to help students during office hours. Go to class and do the work and you will do well and actually learn something in her classes!
Her experience shows when taking her class. Students must try in class or they fail. Her homework is 20% of a final average, and she offers plenty of extra credit on homework. Reviews are not identical to tests so students must learn the material.
Presson is the best math teacher I have had to date. She gives a good amount of homework, but if you do it you are well prepared for her tests. Bottom line, if you want to learn and you put in the effort she is a great teacher.
I would not recommend anyone to take Mrs. Presson's math class. It was very hard for me to understand her teaching and I felt her grading was very unfair.
I really enjoyed this class. It is a lot of work and she is a picky grader, but I feel like I really learned the material and the rest of the Calculus sequence will be easier because of Mrs. Presson's class.
Tests and homework are tricky, but her method of teaching works well. Pay attention, take advantage of every resource offered, and seek help when necessary, and she'll do her job to ensure you walk out of her class well-prepared with what she taught you!
She was an ok professor. She treats students as if they are in high school. She doesn't want students leaving for any reason during the class. She gives excessive homework. For the tests make sure you study the homework repeatedly. She grades hard. If you visit her office hours, she is very helpful. Not my favorite teacher, but not my worst.
She gives tons of homework for a grade, but the work prepares you more for the test. You are going to have to put forth effort for an A for sure. Websites that help you check your work are wolframalpha.com and calcchat.com. She will gladly help you if you go to her office. Overall she is a good professor to take.
Mrs. Presson was an amazing teacher. She was really nice and very good at explaining things. Tests were often long and not that easy, but as long as you knew what you were doing, it was easy to make an A. Ton of homework, but I liked it cause it really helped me learn. I highly recommend Mrs. Presson!! :)
I think this says everything you need to know about Mrs. Presson: In my class of about 40, there were at least two, maybe three, people who were retaking HER class. That is, they'd failed and chose to retake from the same prof. I would've done the same. How often does that happen? She's a drill sergeant, but she's super clear and helpful.
She tends to err on the side of "way too much homework" for a course where one problem can take up a sheet of paper and then some. Look forward to about 15 homework problems a section, which is a lot for linear algebra. You will, however, learn the material from all the practice, assuming you can get past her definition quizzes...
If you are looking for an easy teacher to just give you an A without putting any work in yourself, dont take this class. However, if you are a scholar and respect helpfulness, fair grading and intelligence then look no further. I have taken 2 math classes with Mrs. Presson and am now registering for my third. She is a professional at what she does
Worst prof. ever very hard, gives a lot of homework, but only grades 6 of the problems, you spend days doing 15 problems only to get 6 of them graded, so then you don't know if you got the other one's right. Test are a nightmare, don't take this teacher.
She is one of the single best teachers i have ever had. if you do not know the material =, she will sit down and help you understand (one on one if need be). She cares about her students and wants to see them succeed.
She is the best math professor I have had at UAH. She does give a lot of homework and it is graded, but she spends the beginning of class answering questions on the homework, and will spend as much time doing this as her students want. She is extremely patient when teaching and explains things extremely well.
Great teacher, be prepared for a lot of homework but only a handful of those are graded. Quizzes weekly, if you aren't a good test taker, don't sweat cause there are alot of points to get from quizzes and HW. She is also very approachable if needed.
Nice person, just a very difficult class. I had to drop it. I would only recommend taking her class if you don't have a heavy load with other classes. Lots of homework, and once you get behind there's no catching up. Good luck.
Very nice person, but a tough teacher. Loads of homework, weekly quizzes, a few MATLAB assignments. Go to class and take notes. Review the notes and quizzes for the tests. She makes you work for an A, but if you're serious, you'll get it.
Really goes in depth on the concepts and reviews over the previous class at beginning. Lots and lots of homework, but she makes sure you're prepared for test. She'll also go over pretty much any problem you ask about, and she's extremely friendly.
Presson is a decent teacher, yet she does not take into consideration how hard her students have to work. When I tried to ask her for help during office hours, her office was typically swamped. Her tests are 10 questions long with only about an hour to complete and check. Her Final was 18 problems long w parts to each. HW was 45-60 prob. per week.
Mrs Presson is a nice lady and she knows her math. There's lots of homework and she expedites it for grading, so there are some inconsistencies because she is a more picky grader for quizzes and tests than whomever grades the homework. Participate in class and you may enjoy it and get an A.
Ms. Presson presents all the information you need to know, but she expects you to know all of it. She gives a lot of homework, and a lot of her pop quizzes come from the homework. The tests aren't insanely hard, but you have to really know the material to pass. All in all, she's a good teacher, but be ready to work.
A lot of homework, but it is necessary. After taking calculus B with Mrs. Presson I was fully prepared for the next courses. Mathematics should not be made easy for those dependent on it for their degree. If you do well in her class you well we extremely well equipped. I recommend her for future success.
A good teacher and advisor. We had a small class so everyone got to "teach" by writing out problems on the board. Tests are challenging but not impossible. Went over time many classes, but usually this was to make up for snow days. It was a night class, so that was no big deal.
I took her for Cal A. A very hard professor, but very knowledgeable. Be prepared to do homework every night, and study lots for hard tests. Her class is passable, but will be quite a shock if you are a freshman.
Awesome teacher. Also, she gave a lot of opportunities for extra credit. Definitely choose her for calculus, but be prepared to do a lot of work.
She does not explain things at all. She puts one example on the board and expects you to give the concept. She gives homework between every class period, yells when you don't have it done early, and often won't post it until 12 hours before its due. She also has a personal grudge against honors students.
I took Calculus A in high school, but I almost forgot ALL of the difficult material. However, Mrs. Presson takes 1/3 of the class period EVERY day just to help explain HW problems. She is not that hard to follow if you just try. She's also a really friendly and helpful woman. The tests are kinda tough. She pushes you hard, but it's well worth it.
Great teacher, can be difficult, but you will have a chance to learn the material. Be warned though, she gives quite a bit of homework. She gives extra credit but in the form of a homework grade. This will help considering homework is 20%, which will leave your homework grade higher then 100%. 2nd day of class is your assigned seat for the year
Gives lots of homework, but for Calculus, this is a good thing since doing the work is how you learn. Tests can be hard but she is good with partial credit. Gives bonus points on the final for attending every class. I'm taking her again for Cal B and will be taking her again in the fall for Linear. Best teacher I've had at UAH so far.
Mrs. Lanita Presson was an awesome teacher. I enjoyed having her for Cal B and Linear, and she teaches you important concepts that almost no other teacher at UAH can teach as clearly as her. She grades really hard, but her homework is not terribly long (you may find yourself spending hours on homework). Her tests are easy if you do the homework.
I've taken Ms. Presson for 3 out of 5 of my math classes at UAH. She didn't teach the other two classes. She is an angel in math teacher form. This semester I struggled in a lot of my other classes, but she inspired me to keep going in them because I had an A in her class. She knows her stuff and she is always there to help. A blessing.
She is one of the harder teachers for Calculus at UAH. She definitely knows her stuff, but her tests are difficult. Gives extra credit which helps a lot at the end of the semester. The homework takes quite a bit of time. I would not take her again, but she does know her calculus. Very hard though.
Ms. Presson was a solid linear algebra instructor who cared. She is supposed to have been retiring after the Summer 2016 semester. If that's not the case, don't pass her up. She assigns lots of homework and gives many chances for substantial extra credit. Study for the exams and prepare for quizzes. It's not a free grade but it's not difficult.
Presson was a pretty tough teacher, however she's a great teacher. She gave a ton of homework, but her lectures definitely prepare you and allow for good practice. Tests were extremely long and were challenging (at times), you need to make sure that you're prepared for it. One of the best math teachers UAH has to offer.
