She was awesome!

Great prof..wicked assignments, super helpful and super interesting. A good class. Exams throught but good if u pay attention in class.
really nice prof. lotsa material to go over for tests, helps to go to class. look at other old group projects for good examples of what she wants for project!
Great teacher, great resource to have for teaching career. Keep up the good work.
I'm in third year, and this first year course expects so much of you, it's pretty ridiculous. The midterm was 18 pages, the group project was 100+ pages. Wouldn't recommend this course unless you're really interested in the subject. Not hard material, just so much to learn. She takes it way too seriously, too. I just didn't like as a prof at all.
I was told this class was a gpa booster... boy did i ever get a smack in the face! this class is ridiculously hard. so much material to learn, never mind that pe faculty uses the harder grading system A+ >95%, Midterm was tres long and group project was insane. she wrote that mine was one of the best she'd seen and then i barely got a B+ stupid
EPHE 142 is a hard class, no doubt about it. If you seek her for help, keep up with the homework and readings and go to all classes, this class will be the most amazing and life changing class you will ever take, Lara is an AMAZING teacher and I highly recommend her. She is extremely fair and a very understanding person. Seek her for help if needed
She's awesome! Alot of material, but it's all interesting stuff and overall a pretty easy class. She's passionate for sure and very outgoing and funny. Get into the projects and they won't be so hard.
She is great- always approachable and eager to help. Very clear notes and expectations. This course places a strong emphasis on group work.
She is great- always approachable and eager to help. Very clear notes and expectations. This course places a strong emphasis on group work.
Lara is such a great person! And more importantly professor. She is passionate, helpful, and understanding. I loved her class.
Laura is amazing. She is the nicest professor you will ever have, I can't even begin to describe her and her class-just take it, you won't regret it. Those who say the workload is more than what they expected obviously haven't taken a science or engineering course-workload is really not bad and group project is short and easy Very inspiring class
Lara did a great job at teaching this empowering and inspiring class. She is kind, helpful, and actually cares about students. The work load was really not bad, as long as you start your lifestyle project early. There used to be a big group project but she changed that so it is smaller (and in fact kinda fun!). I highly recommend 142 to everyone!!!
Here is the truth, straight and simple: easy mark, small workload and the prof is very nice. However, took over 3 months for me to arrange a meeting with her. Downside: class is complete hippie hoot nanny material. I actually laugh reading the textbook. If you can stand the "spirituality" bogus, its an easy mark
She is so sweet! While she does go quickly through slides and often jumps from one topic to another, she's really inspiring and friendly. She basically tells you exactly what will be on the midterm, and the workload isn't bad at all. 142 is a fun, relatively easy course.
Lara is not only an amazing prof, but an amazing women & community leader. Taking 142 really did allow me to open my eyes to all the lifestyle choices I was making, and this class actually allowed me to make positive changes. Great prof, Great topics, Clear & Concise, + if you're actually interested in the topics & work at it you'll get a good mark
What a boss! She tells you exactly whats on the midterm which I think no other prof in this world would do. Such a sweet lady and she's always there to help you and guide you no matter what trouble you are in.
Make an effort to seem genuine and she'll give you an easy pass. There's an air of superficiality with classes like this. Just "live well" "be part of the community". People don't learn this stuff in books, they learn in through family, friends, being part of a community. It's ironic that is this considered academic work, a low for UVic.
probably the worst class I have taken in my undergrad. Teacher is the worst - doesn't reply to emails, teaches you nothing and expects you to learn everything outside of class. The class itself is a joke, but a lot more work than you would expect. Easy to do well though. I would never take a class with Lara Lauzon again.
Literally gives you the outline for what is on the midterm AND the final. Projects marked easy. Class may seem like a waste of time because of videos and speakers, but half the tests are based on them and it's easy marks if you go. Fun course overall, but a degree of bias is definitely present. Good prof though, cares about students.
Lara = biggest sweetheart. Sends all lecture notes&literally tells you every single word/question that will be on the 1 midterm/final. Really cares about her students&offers "personal wellness days" (aka skip days). No point going to lecture though due to the notes/outline. Videos are googleable&1 min papers are emailed out about guest speakers
I'm not sure how I feel about this class. Dr. Lauzon cares and cares a lot. Maybe too much. Definitely approach her if you are having difficulties. However, I hated the group project component so much, I stopped going to class. But you have to: lots of exam questions are based on guest speakers, presentations, and videos. Very long exams as well.
Lara is one of the best profs I have had at UVIC thus far, she is very enthusiastic and caring about all students in her class and really goes the extra mile if you need help. She gave me two extensions a month long for reports! What other prof can do that? Surprisingly learned a lot and I would attend lectures as they are important for the final.
A very nice lady, the class was interesting and I thought she was a great teacher. Don't be fooled by the seemingly easy EPHE 142, she is quite a hard marker, but if you work hard, you will do well. She was very helpful, replying to all my emails, and giving us study material for the midterm and final.
Lara is a great prof who cares a lot about her students, and this course. It is not a challenging course and she gives you a great outline for the midterm and final. It is quite easy to BS your way through most of the course, especially the group and individual project. Lectures are not always mandatory, and not always interesting but overall fine.
Lara's lectures were extremely boring. She does care about her students though, so if you ask for help it's always there.
Lara is a lovely lady, she provides good guest speakers and gives all the information needed for the exam, however, she is a very hard marker on the term project, marking it as if we are all third year english majors. She did not provide enough information to mark to as high standard a standard if she did .
Midterm and final were fair. Group project wasn't too bad. Final paper was marked as if everyone was a 4th year English major. New textbook almost every year despite no differences. Textbook was very pricey, buy back price was ridiculous.
Pretty boring survey of health, i was uninspired. She is a broken record about her lifestyle change projects. Long tests and a lot of useless material to memorize.
Out of all of the EPHE professors that I have had so far in three years, Lara has been my favourite. She really seems to care about her student's and is passionate about the course material. I would definitely recommend her!
Lara is such a great person and prof! She really cares about her students and wants them to do well. She is super friendly and approachable and I would definitely take another course with her!
This was a good class. A decent amount of work, but prof is very fair. Enjoyed the lectures! Would recommend!
Lara is a great prof and really cares for all her students. The assignments are pretty straight forward and she gives you an exam outline too which is super nice! Would totally recommend this class to anyone looking to learn more about yourself and to get an A. Do the work and come to class and you'll pass.
Great Prof, really cares about students and what she is teaching. If you put the work in, it's very easy to get a good mark
Lara is an amazing person. When I had to take time off school for mental health issues she was generous with extensions and sent me a very comforting and inspirational email. Make sure to attend guest speaker presentations as all of them are featured on her exams and are impossible to answer if you missed them.
Lara is super caring. The group project was easy and the midterm and final are fair. The individual project is marked pretty harshly, not something to leave to the last minute. Go to her office hours and ask her about your project to get extra help. Overall, a good class and would highly recommend it! Lara was great.
I found the class pretty easy, I did not always attend, and I did fairly well in the class. The midterms and assignments are pretty straight forward. I found her as a prof, she made some extremely ignorant comments that left me offended. The class was based more on her opinion, than what I was actually there to learn. Did not like her as a prof!
Lara really cares about her students and most of her lectures are pretty interesting. Lots of guest speakers and videos. Gives a really detailed outline for the midterm + final and they end up being pretty easy if you study. There is also one group project and a final paper. Fairly easy and straight forward course overall, good GPA booster.
The attendance is required and the test is tough.
The most genuine human being ever! She encourages you to go see her outside class and you really should. She genuinely cares about you and you can tell her just about anything. Group projects are a little stressful but she will help you out if there is any trouble. Not the easiest elective with the term project but it will really change your life!
Lara is really nice and cares about her students. Her lectures can be dry and boring at times casue she goes straight off the textbook, some interesting guest lecturers and movies though. She is extremely passionate and knowledge about health and wellness. She is also very approachable. I highly recommend going to see her and previous examples.
Dr. Lauzon is an okay prof, but her lecture style is not good. While she does point out which concepts are on the exam, she strays from topics long enough that she skips essential information at the end. I found that I was teaching myself more material than I learned in class. Also, beware of the exam and to do much more writing than you thought.
Dr. Lauzon really cares about this class and really does want to improve everyone's lives. If you are taking this class just as an easy A I wouldn't recommend this as getting an A requires a lot of extra work. Overall, an interesting and fun course but it's not an easy A.
Dr. Lara Lauzon taught the health and wellness portion of the course, and they were very passionate about the material. The slides were always available before class, and they breezed through them in class. Learned a lot, and was inspired to go to class each week.
I have been in school for 15 years now and I have met many professors. No one has been more caring, loving, nurturing and sweet than Dr. Lauzon. She is the most approachable prof on this island and just love her so much.
this class is all based around memorization and regurgitating exactly what the teacher has written in her textbook. The types of things you have to memorize are not intuitive and they're not useful (example there is a section on general types of stressors and one of them is terrorism!???) Don't take as an elective.
She sends bible-long emails every second day, it's impossible to keep up and frankly there's no point because her syllabus is filled with random and irrelevant content
Lara is the most passionate and genuine prof I've had. She really cares about her students and is always available if you need extra help or even someone to talk to. EPHE 142 may be a bit boring to students outside of EPHE who take it as an elective as it's quite a bit of work for the content. She's great, but the course isn't the most interesting
I liked lara but the group projects were a lot of work and not very fun. The final project also sucked and took so long to finish. i did this class as my elective and it ended up being my lowest grade compared to chem, math, and physics. I wish i had chose an easier elective with a cheaper textbook.
I love Lara with my whole heart. I took her class as an elective and was weary that it wasnt going to be what I was looking for. EPHE 142 was the best class I have ever taken and I highly recommend it. Lara is supportive and knowledgeable about so many things.
Lara is one of the best profs I've had. Super kind, encouraging, passionate + flexible. I took this course as an easy A and that's exactly what it was. The big solo project is not as bad as it seems, just start early and you won't find it hard. Exams were straight forward (outlines matched up with exams perfectly). Great class, really inspiring!
take this class, lara is the cutest human being ever
I LOVED LARA. Nicest prof ever who gave awesome feedback. Not too many assignments which were nice and interesting projects too. You could tell she loved teaching and wanted her students to learn valuable life lessons. Content was interesting and beneficial, boring at some points but good. Exams weren't too difficult and based on lectures/textbook
Lara is such a sweet professor. Even though I took this class online, I really felt like she cared about her students. She responds to emails quickly, and is happy to answer questions or just chat after class. She truly cares about your personal health and wellness, and she'll do all she can to help you improve your life!
Lara is an amazing prof I have taken EPHE 142 and 252 with her. Cares about you as a person not just as a student. Very approachable and knowledgeable about what she teaches. If you try you will do well.
Although Lara was an approachable, kind, and knowledgeable professor, I found some of the class material not very interesting. Work load was manageable however it becomes very easy to fall behind. I would not recommend taking this class if you do not think it will something that will interest you.
She was always a pleasure to work with, and her lectures were great. One group project required that needs teamwork and effort, but it's do-able.
Its all easy content but you dont hand in many things and the things you do hand in she marks hard for no reason. The exams arent too hard and I appreciated her study guides but there are two major projects worth a lot. Shes nice but her and her Tas mark hard which I find so dumb
Not many assignments or tests but they were marked pretty hard. Exam outlines were good and detailed. The class/many exam questions were based on opinion which makes it harder to get the right answer. Professor Lauzon was available to help outside of class and was genuinely enthusiastic.
Easy elective that you can improve from if you take it seriously. Gives very clear midterm and final outlines that really help with studying.
Dr. Lauzon was an amazing professor, who was inspiring and helpful throughout the entire term. If you put in the work and are actively engaged, it is easy to succeed. One of the only critiques I have is that assignments take a long time to be returned. Highly recommend!
If you show up to Lara's lectures, ask questions and make yourself noticeable, Lara is an amazing prof to make a connection with. Lara will support you through anything during your path. I just graduated this year, and took this course with Lara in my second year and can still go to her for support. She really cares about her students!
Lara is the cutest thing and she is really passionate about what she does! Her study guides are really similar to the midterms and final so if you focus on them you'll be golden!
A great experience. I could have easily scored, with less than 1 hr a week, more than 80% had I not messed up my project.
Super easy class as long as u use the exam outlines to study, the group project and lifestyle change project are easy enough.. Lara is super reasonable with deadlines and is great at providing feedback. she definitely cares a ton about that course but it almost seems that she cares too much at times and comes across a bit nutty.
takes attendance, disorganized, must purchase textbook (that she wrote). You could get the information from this class from a 30min youtube video. she doesn't know how brightspace works and isn't willing to learn. The assignments were okay, textbook is out of touch and has outdated information even though its new. fun though and not much work.
Lara is super nice and understanding and she genuinely cares about well being of her student but she is also a little disorganized and does not really understand how Brightspace works. There are midterm/final review sheet that identical to exams. I didn't get a ton from this class but if you are looking for a light elective I would recommend.
Such a sweet person and lenient as well. As for the class it is pretty boring and textbook stuff, you don't need to show up just read the textbook. You'll be fine in this class just make sure you stay up to date. I personally thought it was a waste of my time.
Lara is a nice teacher, although sometimes class is slightly boring. I am also not a fan of group projects, which made this class a bit less enjoyable for me. Lara is an easy marker, and is always willing to help if needed. Overall, I would recommend her if you are looking for an easy class.
Dr. Lauzon's class was relatively easy however your mark will rely heavily on one project and the midterm and final. She is very lenient and supportive and some of the guest lecturers were actually very inspirational. Would recommend class if looking for an easier elective that you can skip from time to time.
Lara was honestly an awesome prof and person. You can tell she really wants you to succeed in the class and wants to see growth. However the guidelines to projects were pretty all over the place and it was hard to figure out if you were ever doing any of the assignments right. Group project was annoying also not ideal but its a actually really easy
She was an amazing first-year teacher. She responded to all of her emails quickly and was willing to meet with you. You can tell she cares a lot about her students, and as long as you don't leave her projects until the very end, they are easy to do. I definitely suggest reaching out to her a few times through the course, as it was very helpful.
She was a great professor for this first-year course. She was always willing to help and although there is a very heavily weighted paper,if you go meet with her,she breaks it down very well. She makes it very clear that she cares about her students and tries to help them and inspire them the most she can.I would definitely suggest taking this course.
Very caring prof. There was lots of guest speakers and movies which provided a different lecture experience.
Lara is a really caring person. She told us to buy her textbook as it would be needed to complete online quizzes, it was not, don't buy it. She's a fair marker and gives a VERY clear outline before the midterm and the final. You should definitely attend days when there are "1-min papers" happening. Other days, up to you.
Awesome professor. This course contains a lot of very useful information and if you attend you will finish the class with a good grade. Lara makes it very clear what she expects from students and is an extremely fair marker.
If you wrote an exam or project you wouldn't know what your mark was for weeks!!! So frustrating.
Lara is kind and really cares about what she is teaching. She gives a lot of feedback on your work. However, it didn't really feel like she set you up to succeed sometimes.... and I also found she made some snoody comments here and there that threw me off. But overall the course is interesting and I would recommend.
Nice lady and the class does take attendance. You only really need to show up on the days 1 min papers are due tho, other days optional tbh you can just review the slides. Easy class, very clear outlines for midterm and final. Study those and you'll be fine. Good if you need an easy elective, there's only 2 assignments (one is a group project).
Mid asf she be talkin bout herself sm
I did learn a lot in her class, but she always seemed slightly snarky and did not want anyone to really succeed. She spent the first three classes telling people to dropout. She also made at least one comment/class about how students are all alcoholics. Textbook for the class is written by her and is quite pricey, considering that she's profiting?
Her lectures are a drawn-out monologue of humblebrags and life stories. Class projects are ok but the midterm and final are really trivial and don't have anything to do with true understanding. Also the textbook (that she wrote) is really expensive.
I found the content very common knowledge. Lara was kind and caring but I just didn't feel like this course was worth paying 500$ for.
Overall the class was ok but she made it more serious than it needed to be for a 1st yr elective. 2 exams are way more difficult than they need to be for what her class is. Lectures are painful if shes not reading off a slide or bragging about herself shes playing an old dvd that is 1hr of common sense. Avoid if you can but if you can't it's doable
Lauzon is nice enough, but it is very lecture-heavy and there is a lot of information on the tests that was only said in class. The textbook is only necessary for the personal potential stories, but is very expensive for barely needing to use it.
