She's a good teacher who teaches this course at night. If you have to take Phys 100, take it at night from her. No homework and papers! The tests are little difficult but manageable. Highly recommended!

She was great, Night class is the way to go. No homework, no papers, Extra credit, it was too simple.
Great teacher - the way to go! Night classes are by far the way to go. Ireland keeps the course manageable and clear. Otherwise Physical Science really does suck, however the night class is great.
Ok, can I just say that she is HOT! Good thing she can't read my thoughts. ;-)
Good teacher. The comments about her looks are true.
she is extremely smart and a very good teacher
I hate the subject matter, but taking it from her ist he way to go. Her lectures weren't boring, which is a must for the 3 hour night class, and I recommend taking it this way if you don't like the idea of having to attend a lecture or a lab 4 times a week.
She's smart, entertaining, and a very kind and genuine person. I'll admit it was really hard to sit through 3 hour night lectures through material that I find absolutely boring, but she made it somewhat more bareable. Our class was the pilot for the new book though, so I can't say how it stacked up comparatively.
way nice lady, but not the easiest class on the planet. go to the labs!!! those TA's know what they're doing. Highly recommend taking this class from her, but you got to stay on top of the work. study your butt off for the tests.
It's not her fault the class is tough, the department mandates what has to be taught, and they write the tests. That said Prof. Ireland is the way to go. She explains things well and lets you know what you need to know. Make sure you do all the homework and get to know the TA's since they grade it all and they can be very objective.
Good teacher, didn't confuse us like some of the substitute teachers did.
Miserable experience. Boring, disorganized, lame lectures. So boring that in class quizzes have to be given every 20 minutes to prevent everyone from leaving. Horrible at responding to students questions. Any demonstrations she does seem to produce different results from what they should have. Tedious HW assignments. Nice lady, horrible teacher.
As the quote says. she is very disoriented during lecture. grades were not posted in reasonable time and then there were misplaced assignments and use of clickers was disasterous. would not recommend taking this class from her.
I was really apprehensive about this course at first. I was actually dreading it to tell you the truth. I ended up loving it because of Pro. Ireland. I of all of my classes I would fail this one and I ended up pulling an A because I went to lecture, read the text, used her review sheets, and went to the TA's for help. Great Class!
This was a tough class but if you did the homework, the reading, and went to all the TA reviews you can get an A. Assignments were not handed back in a very timely manner don't count on using them to help you study for tests. Sister Ireland made the class more interesting. I wouldn't recommend the 3 hour night class that meets only once a week.
This class was horrible. I failed because my clicker did not work the whole semester. Basically the teacher said tough luck you should have read the syllabus. Class super boring and confusing. Nice lady but bad teacher in my opinion. Take it from someone else.
I took the online class. It was really hard but there is lots of support materials. At Prof. Ireland's suggestion I used the TA lab by calling them long distance. It really helped. The teacher couldn't really explain anything because she is afraid of revealing something that is on the test and of course this class is taken by 100s of students/year.
I took her night class--big mistake! It's really long, she never let us out early (she could've if she'd cut out the stuff she talked about that we didn't need to know), and the lights were kept dim. She's not very good at explaining concepts, which was frustrating and made it harder to pay attention and find the motivation to go to class.
I took this class on-line. She responded quickly to my e-mails and was very courteous. I felt the tests and assignments were reasonable and fair - she really wanted me to learn the basics and wasn't tricky. I got additional help from a website she suggested. I did like the class.
I did horrible on the first test and thought that I had done well. She was willing to meet with me and asked me some questions and I answered them correctly. She helped me see (and solve) a life-long issue I had with multiple choice test. She cares and really helps students that take ownership and are wanting to learn. I still use what learned.
She misunderstood several questions and told me at least one thing that is blatantly incorrect
Not very good at expressing herself intelligently but not a bad teacher either. I will say that her lectures often don't match up with the tests, but they're mandatory (daily in class quizzes to force you to attend) so that's kind of annoying. If you go to the TA's for tutoring though it's perfectly manageable.
Good teacher, fun lectures. The other professors and TA's were good in helping me with homework, tests, and grades. Difficult questions on the tests though, they were not written by an english major. But other than that is a good class.
Small class at the Salt Lake Center. She was always willing to listen to me and help me out if I ever had any questions. She is easy going and kind. I'd take it again from her.
Very good lady, helpful and understanding. I recommend the class
Professor Ireland has some occasionally fun demonstrations in lectures and she is always willing to answer any questions and she wants class participation. No assignments other than reading the book to help on the test. She's very kind but some test questions seemed tricky, especially since I am not very good at understanding science.
Great teacher, super helpful, she is willing to talk on the phone with you and is very good at answering emails. Tests weren't cake but her grading is fair.
Don't take this class from her. Lectures are super unclear and she is awful at explaining concepts. Had to rely on high school science to get me through this course because it was explained so poorly in class. The exams have NOTHING to do with study guide material. Lectures are pointless: lecture slides are on LS, read the book.
She was a good teacher but sometimes I was a little lost in her lectures which made it hard to do well on her tests.
Very nice and willing to spend time with each student to explain difficult concepts. This sometimes took the lecture on a tangent, but was interesting.
Prof. Ireland was helpful and prompt to answer any question I had, as well as directed me to online TA review videos. The review assignments before tests helped to know how to focus studying for the tests. Overall I learned a lot in her class.
Lectures are very confusing, the tests have a TON of trick question. Do not take
Her lectures are really confusing and exams. I took her at the Salt Lake center and it was 3 hours long so it was hard to pay attention. Her grading scale is off though, so an A is a 90% an A- is 86% a B+ is 83% a B is 79% a B- is 75% and so on. So that is nice.
SUPER nice and very helpful to students. However, she is an awful professor, no one in the class ever understood anything. That being said, her tests are way easier than on campus and the grading is way more fair. If youre looking for an easier physics class, take it from her and just sit in the back and watch Khan Academy during lecture.
There are a lot of tests in this class. We took 8 total tests, although 3 of them were in class tests in groups, it's still a bit of stress. There are also occasionally unclear test questions that are quite frustrating, but otherwise, it is much easier than other physics classes I have taken
Sister Ireland is good. If you put in the work, she meets you halfway. She lets you do test corrections which helped me learn a lot. Her lectures have seemed to get more interesting as the semester goes on.
Take this class from Dr. Ireland! It is well worth the trip up to Salt Lake once a week (the front runner is free!). Its physics 106 and isnt a cake walk, but it is 1,000,000X easier with Dr. Ireland than any of the professors on campus. I put in about 3 hours a week of homework and study and am sitting at a solid A going into the final.
Solid class. Decent lectures. Tough concepts, but those will be there for any professor. Very reasonable grader. Option to get points back on some exams. 2 hw assignments each week. 7 midterms, but 4 were in class.
Dr. Ireland knows her stuff and is more than willing to help you succeed. Teaches in a way that makes difficult topics easy to understand.
Not super heavy on the homework but the tests can be a little harder than the homework. She offers test corrections (receive 1/3 points back). Would definitely suggest taking physics from Laralee.
Take her. She's fine. Although she is kind she does not know how to teach well. Concepts are taught in a confusing way. I spent the lectures (mandatory i-clicker quizzes) watching Khan Academy with my headphones in.
Prof Ireland is super nice and knows her stuff, but she's a poor teacher. She was unclear about lots of concepts and I didn't feel like the homework related to the test at all. Group projects were a drag. This class is tough, but not impossible.
Not the best teacher, was unclear about a lot of concepts. I didn't feel like I got anything out of class, but had to go because attendance was required. 7 Midterms during the semester is a drag, feels like you never have a break from tests and a 95 is an A, class isn't curved at all. Doable, but tough class.
She's alright. She left a lot of concepts unclear and was behind in lectures. Class felt very rushed because she was trying to catch up before the test. I mainly learned from the TAs in the lab. There are 7 tests that you have to take plus all the homework that takes a good time to complete. If you get confused, just go to the TAs for help.
Not the best teacher, she is really nice though. I felt like she was rushed and unprepared most of the semester. She would do better with smaller class sizes IMO. Tons of homework and tests every other week made for a busy class. Test corrections for 1/3 points back were a redeeming quality though. Iclicker quizzes, and a long book to read as well.
Professor Ireland teaches very clearly and will answer any question you have. Essentially, if you read the textbook then you'll understand all the concepts. Tests were normally open book/open note, but often expanded ideas beyond what was discussed in class, so make sure you fully understand the concepts and applications. This was a blended class.
Dr. Ireland is a great professor. She is a very fair and understanding person! The classwork is a lot of textbook reading and there are a lot of exams.
I took this class during WInter 2020 semester. The physics department at BYU is so broken physics 105 changes every semester depending on who teaches it. Class confused me more than anything.
Don't take this class. There aren't any lectures, you watch videos and teach yourself EVERYTHING, no joke. Then, the exams test you on complex topics that build off of what you've taught yourself. I got a good grade because I test well and got all of the extra credit (which there was a decent amount of), but the stress in this class was extreme!!!!
Wow, this class was TOUGH. Sister Ireland is a great Professor but this class was a killer. Trying to learn physics online is quite difficult. There are weekly homework assignments that take 2-3 hours and there were 7 exams + a final. Be ready to pay attention and study super hard if you want to do well. The average for the class was a C+.
Great class & format for during a pandemic. I got most out of the lectures when I went, but still learned a lot from reading the textbook.
Ok I can't really rate the teacher as much as the (COVID) class. Class is easy if you go to lectures and labs. I did not which made things more tough. I slept through pretty much everything. Did the readings and hw though. Tests were open note and internet. Easy to get good grade bc of hw weight. Got a 95 on the final - 95 in the class. Clutch.
This course has wack concepts. There were 4 exams (all open note, book, and internet), but we have 4 finals (still open everything). You have classic readings and little assignments to do with the readings and classwork, it is pretty manageable. Professor is pretty good at explaining concepts and helping students. Good teacher for this class.
Great professor who explains things easily and is available outside class. Not a hard class or a hard grader. I'm not a stem major but her class was easy to follow and understand. Would take from her again.
I loved Sister Ireland's class. She explains things really well and my TA was so helpful. It may have been because it was online, but all the tests were open note, book, and internet. There's not a lot of homework, and the homework assignments weren't super hard, since she goes over them with you. I would definitely try to take this class from her!
Prof Ireland is fine. I hate science, so the class material was less than enjoyable but she had some good lectures. I stopped going to class halfway through the semester and my grade reflected that. Everything except the tests are on quizlet so that's nice. But ya, for a G.E. you can do worse. IT HELPS TO HAVE FRIENDS IN THE CLASS ;).
Anyone who gives Prof. Ireland a decent rating is a typical BYU sycophant. Ireland needs some serious work in effectively conveying information to her students. Many felt lost and even more confused when taking her 7 tests. The class average is abysmal and the quality of instruction/organization is frustratingly terrible. Avoid her like the plague
I cried a lot in this class. Don't take it in spring. Ireland is nice but her lectures were so compacted with info that it was hard to comprehend anything. Homework does not reflect tests. Tests were made to trick you. Stopped using textbook because it didn't help just made things more confusing. Get a study group and a TUTOR. DO NOT RELY ON TA'S.
Dr. Ireland was a good professor honestly! However the class was very test heavy which made it exceedingly difficult to receive a high grade. The tests averaged 60-75. The TA's were ABSENT and impossible to receive help from. If you are going to take it, I would just warn you that the tests will contain information meant to trick you.
Professor Ireland is one of my favorite professors that I have had thus far. She was very fair when grading assignments and exams. She gave specific and positive feedback on the concepts that I needed to work on, which I greatly appreciated.
Science is not my fav so I didn't love this class. Dr. Ireland is very entertaining though and is good at explaining the content. Tests are 32 questions so it hurts to miss just a few questions. Overall, it is pretty manageable if you do the readings and take notes in class.
All around a very solid choice. You can't go wrong by choosing this Professor. She completely understands that most people don't give a lick about science and just need the credit so the class is built that way. The reviews are very helpful and I appreciated the nods to religion throughout the course.
Loved her! Her lectures are clear and concise. She gets to the point and helps you understand the material you need for exams. She really cares about her students, and makes learning interesting. For this class you will READ. You need to make an effort to pass. The material can be difficult but she's always there to help out. Totally recommend.
Dr. Ireland was a good prefessor its just there is so much information in each lecture. So I didn't get alot out of them. If you want to pass the tests you need to do all the labs, classwork and lessons. What helped me the most was reading the book. You can definetly get an A in the class you just need to do all the assignments and study the book.
She really cares about the material and her students. Gave class time for HW and had really fun lectures. Get ready to blow some things up in class! No essays, and you got a page of notes for every test. But the tests are hard. You need to study and read the textbook! Understand main ideas and you'll pass her class.
I didn't like this class, but that's not really Ireland's fault. She tries to make lectures fun and they sometimes are. There were about 6 short assignments each week + an essay and lab; you have something due every weekday but one. Tests weren't that bad if you went to TA reviews. Wouldn't take the class again, would take the professor again.
Ireland is great and will answer questions throughout class and after class. Use this to your advantage!! The lessons were helpful, but really reading the textbook and the online TA page was helpful to understand the material. She will go into depth if you are confused, she really does want to help students succeed. Don't rely on the TAs.
Professor Ireland explained each topic simply and clearly. As a student who struggles with science, this class was very manageable to get an A. There are 4 tests and a final, but you can bring a page of notes for each one. If you understand the review slides, you'll be fine. You only need a 90 to get an A.
Outside work is fairly chill. As long as keep up, it's a good class. 90% is an A. Easy. Ireland explains things well. Cool experiments in class. Having a good TA really matters, so if you don't get a good one, find one. Lots of little assignments, labs, essays, etc. Good general. Learned a lot, but builds on high school knowledge quite a bit.
There are two assignments due everyday you have class; a reading assignment and a classwork assignment. If you understand these, you do not need to attend lecture. Lab is essentially a review of the week, going to lab is very helpful. There are 4 midterms and a final in this class, you can use a cheat sheet on all of them.
Professor Ireland does a really good job at explaining confusing concepts! We learned some interesting things in this class. You don't have to do the readings to do well. There are two assignments due each class, but you get multiple attempts. You get a note sheet on each exam. Overall, a pretty easy A and an enjoyable class!
Dr. Ireland really does her best to help her students learn. She's good at reading the room and slowing topics down when needed. Physics will always be hard no matter what, but Dr. Ireland is your best bet. & super accessible outside of class. 50/50 for math and conceptual understanding, so make sure you understand both.
Her homework doesn't line up with the test at all so you'll get to the testing center and the questions won't be anything like the homework. When the whole class told her she needed to change the course she still didn't. The way her class is set up just isn't ideal for learning. Don't take this class from her.
Honestly, I feel like her lectures and explanations weren't great because she didn't have a great grasp on the material. She was nice enough, but her tests felt a little out of nowhere with some questions, TAs were slow with grading and the class structure was meh. She had a policy where you could get points back for missed exam Qs which I respect
Great person, incredibly nice. Not so great teacher. Tests were not representative of what was taught. Felt like it did not matter how much I studied. A few questions on most tests were more about luck than anything else. I did better when I stopped going to class.
Laralee is the worst professor I've had at BYU. The class just isn't set up for students to succeed. Lectures felt disorganized and were a waste of time. Sometimes I questioned how well she actually knows the material. She failed to fix problems in the class following a mid course evaluation. Tests did not reflect the homework.
I think when I took her class it was the first time teaching this big of a class at BYU as she had been teaching at the SL center. Rarely did we get through all of the material planned for the day and for a couple exams she had to send out supplemental material. Tests every other week so each one isn't as heavy but still a lot. Work outside class.
Her in-class exams are low-key ridiculous. There's way too much cheating and not enough guidelines to prevent that. Her lectures are pretty good; the homework isn't too bad. You guys, I was one question on the final away from getting an A. I finished with a 94.9, and she wouldn't curve it. The same happened in 105 too (94.99) so it just sucked.
Physics 106 is a difficult class by nature, and Sister Ireland does not teach it well. Her tests do not reflect the assigned homework or any of the problems we work on in class. Lecture attendance is a waste of time. I started doing better in her class when I stopped going. Avoid taking this class from her.
I really enjoyed taking this class from her, I always found the lectures to be interesting and she teaches in a way I could understand. Cool demonstrations. The tests were a breeze if you went to class and read. (the textbook is actually really well written and not boring)
Professor Ireland's class is good for what it is. Nobody in the class is particularly interested in the physical sciences, and this class is catered towards that. Assignments are easy enough, and the tests aren't bad if you allow yourself to make a good enough study guide for it. Go to class and the TA labs/reviews, and you will be fine.
great professor, great lectures, you can tell she cares about you but also knows her stuff super well. 10/10
4 exams and a final, one page of notes front and back for all of them. Lessons and classwork are due every day you have class. I bought the textbook and never used it. My TA was amazing. This class was a lot of work, it wasn't easy but it wasn't necessarily hard. The tests were okay, some of the questions were easy some were hard.
Professor Ireland just lectures in all of the class periods from a slideshow, but she is very interactive, and I think she cares about her students. The lectures are 3 times a week with one lab so it is work-heavy. Even if you fail a test your grade is slated so it won't drop a lot. Go to the review sessions and TA labs and you will do fine.
The class is EXTREMELY organized and structured so that anyone can get an A or A-. Lectures were very to the point and questions were always answered. The classroom is "flipped", meaning you learn the material before each class and review it in lecture, it is usually around 12 pages of easy reading. TA's are not very helpful, don't rely on them.
I absolutely loved this class! Professor Ireland was super fun and interactive. I've never liked or understood science material, but when reviewing for the final, I found that I still remembered details from the very first units. This class is so well organized that it is easy to understand and remember the content. The TAs were very helpful too.
Dr. Ireland is a really good professor. If you do the lessons before class, pay attention in class, and go to lab you can pretty easily get an A. The tests weren't hard if you studied and did the practice tests. She is always willing to answer questions and explains things really well. All practice questions are very similar to test questions.
She is an amazing person and teacher. She tries her best to make sure that everyone understands the material and goes out of her way to answer questions in class. Class is usually a recap of the lesson the night before, and she will go over the commonly missed questions. Tests weren't too bad for me as long as you understood the concepts.
The class is structured by someone else. Professor Ireland is nice. Dr lawler who is in charge does nothing and obnoxious to students. Sometimes it come down to be rude. Ireland is a sweet lady balance out the disorganized course. Love it
I'm not really into science, just took Physical Science for a general ed. Dr. Ireland understands that, so she focuses on what you need to know for the tests instead of diving into the topics deeply. The workload in this class in not too heavy. There are 5 exams which are a little difficult but not too bad.
The grading expectations weren't clear, there was a ton of unnecessary reading, it was difficult to tell was would be important later due to the overload of information. Ireland was a harsh grader, and it is impossible to predict what exactly is being asked and how much detail is expected. For a mandatory general I wouldn't recommend.
She is nice, fun, and accomodating, but this class was still very confusing. The TA reviews were outdated or incorrect. A lot of the class felt like you needed to understand Physics before hand to actually understand what was going on. You get to take in a sheet of notes to each test and can retake the quizes, but in the end the tests were SO HARD.
She seems like a nice person but genuinely is one of the worst professors that I have had at BYU. Avoid taking this class from her if at all possible. Youtube got me through this class and I eventually just stoped going to lecture all together. The topics were not explained clearly and the tests had questions unlike anything we had seen or done
Professor Ireland exhibits a deep understanding of physics, but the teaching methods may not suit all students. The brisk pace and abstract explanations can be challenging. However, the professor's passion and willingness to assist during office hours are commendable. Adjustments in teaching strategies could enhance the overall learning experience.
Dr. Ireland demonstrates little to no grasp of physics, and the teaching methods may not cater to all students. Test every two weeks with very little practice on the concepts. No in-class practice problems. TAs don't know whats going on either.
Yeah, just stop reading comments after this one. DON'T TAKE HER. PERIOD. She doesn't understand physics enough to teach it. Her last research paper, and only, was done in 2000 as a graduate student. Forget about lectures, you'll just be more confused. Go watch Youtube lessons. Test questions have grammatical errors and are incomprehensible.
I've NEVER had as big of a workload as I have in her class. Her TA's will dock you for everything. Her class was so bad I was taking a quiz and doing a chapter of reading almost every single night. There's a 30 paragraph essay assignment, vocab test, and practice test all of which are required before you take 1 of 5 midterms. Stay away.
Worst teacher i've ever had. I only got a good grade because I spent hours online teaching myself the material. There are 7 tests and a final. Yeah you heard that right. Does not prepare you for the tests at all! Avoid!
Ireland clearly doesn't put time or effort into making the class better. The lecture is her talking at students for 1hr and 15 mins (very few useful example problems) and includes little material to prepare students for the homework, 7 midterms (w/confusing wording), and 1 comprehensive final. If you want a good physics teacher take Dr. Francis.
DON'T EVER TAKE A CLASS FROM HER. SHE IS NOT A GOOD TEACHER AND THE TESTS ARE THE WORST. SAVE YOURSELF.
This class was horrible. Professor Ireland seemed nice but very underqualified to teach this class. There are 7 midterms and a final with no practice problems which leaves students struggling to know what will be on the test. Tests were not bad but very often poorly worded and tricky. I did better in this class once I stopped going to her lectures.
On the first day she said she is a part-time professor and it really shows. During lecture it felt like she didn't even know what she was teaching. There are SEVEN exams and the HW and lectures do not prepare you at all. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!! Seriously, just choose any other option. This has been the worst experience of my life.
Professor Ireland could not have made this class more confusing. She provided absolutely no materials to prepare for exams, and the hw was not at all representative of them. Only about half of the hw problems even had solutions posted. There were typos on every exam and poor grammar made it difficult to even know what she was asking.
This course was detrimental to my academics and overall mental health. These other reviews are very accurate. She did not explain concepts well and contradicted herself. 7 exams in the semester with the most poorly worded and confusing test questions you will see. Do NOT take Physics 106 from this professor.
As nice as a person as she is, she is a terrible professor. She could not answer questions and did not seem to know what her own course was teaching. Her lectures were confusing and she made me more confused (somehow). She does not prepare you for exams and seems to take pride in having questions that make no sense. Use Youtube and you might pass.
Lectures were garbage. She doesn't explain things well. Miss two questions, you are already at a 90%. Some of the questions on the exams are terribly written and are difficult to answer because they make no sense. I recommend writing the questions and answers down when test correction open because she reused previous questions for the final.
She struggles to explain all physics concepts. I got through by just using the equation sheet and memorizing how to do problems. Almost no one came to class. Biweekly tests had me stressed at all times. Her tests were poorly written. She is impossible to get in touch with because shes part time and there were not enough TAs to actually get help.
She is incapable of giving direct answers. This is true for physics problems and questions about grading. Was very shifty on whether there would be a curve - sometimes said yes, sometimes no, ultimately there was none. I am not convinced she understands what she teaches. "I'm not sure" was her go to response to most questions in lecture.
Yep...I miss Greg already...I tried my best to wake up in the morning the come to her class at first month but gradually I found out that there's no difference between self-study the material and sit in her class (sometimes sitting in her class make stuffs even worse cuz I didn't think she can make the concept clearer)...
Just take Francis. She's just not the best teacher but also the class is just hard. So much homework that takes forever. Her tests made me so mad and the format of doing half of the tests in class in a group was pointless. Honestly if you're good at physics you'll be fine if you have to take her class, but Francis is teaching 106 in the winter so..
Surely she has seen her student ratings or even some of these ratings... students don't like her style, yet she doesn't try to change. She seemsd to confuse herself and was always getting concussions? She is incapable of answering any sort of question, physics or not. People eventually just stopped going to lecture and actually did better.
Her tests are nothing like the content in class or the textbook. There's a test every two weeks and it's written poorly every time. Her TAs teach the content better than she does. Avoid taking physics from her if you can, you'll be better off with any other professor.
Please, for the sake of your GPA, do not take this class from Dr. Ireland. Her tests are very difficult and often do not match the practice homework she gives us. Out of her 7 “midterms” she scheduled an exam the week of Thanksgiving, and one was the week before finals. Any teacher other than her. Won't admit her errors either.
The tests were really hard! Lots of trick questions. The teacher was really kind but struggled to teach hard principles.
Dr. Ireland is quite possibly one of the worst professors I've had at BYU. Exams every 2 weeks and assignments due 4 days a week. Exams look nothing like the homework and she scheduled an exam the day before Thanksgiving break and another 2 days before finals started. For the sake of your own sanity, avoid her at all costs.
Professor Ireland struggles to explain physics concepts clearly. Lectures are confusing, and exams have poorly worded questions. However, using resources like the textbook, YouTube, and Unstuck study can help you get through the class.
DO NOT DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOTTTTT TAKE THIS CLASS FROM DR. IRELAND!!!!!!!!!!! Everything you've read in the reviews is true. she is by far the worst professor I've had at BYU. She does not take the time to explain any of the material. I DON'T BE NAIVE LIKE ME AND THINK DESPITE THESE AWFUL REVIEWS YOU CAN SUCEED IN THIS CLASS BECAUSE YOU WONT!!
This class has completely deterred me from taking Physics again. Professor Ireland explains concepts poorly, and lectures don't prepare you for the homework or tests. Exams are bi-weekly, take 3+ hours, and TA reviews are unhelpful. She doesn't post a grading scale and may curve at the end based on how she feels.
I am a senior at BYU, I have taken anatomy and am currently in physiology, and I am telling you right now that this is the hardest course I have taken at BYU. There is an exam every week in this course. Ireland explains concepts poorly, and the exams are much harder than in class work and homework. The class average is a low C in the course overall
Do not take this class from her. You will struggle, despite this being a beginner class and a basic requirement for life science majors. She does not teach in a way that is easy to understand and I, along with many others dropped the class after having to rely heavily on outside sources for help. Unless you are a physics major, take another teacher
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS FROM HER. I took physics my senior year and did pretty well, so I thought that this class would be easy. I was in the TA lab everyday because I didn't understand. The tests are nothing like the homework or what she talks about in class. I would take from another professor.
I didn't feel like I was able to follow along in her lectures very well. Tests were very hard and I didn't feel like she prepared us.
Welp... this class was horrible. Exams were MUCH harder than homework even with TA help. Doesn't give you practice exams. 7 total exams... every two weeks. Not that she's a bad teacher, cuz she knows what she's talking about, but she doesn't help you know how to prepare for tests at all. Average grade was a C so that says something
Professor Ireland is not only one of the most sincere professors, but she does everything she can to help you succeed. TAs are super helpful and do lots of reviews. As long as you pay attention in class, at least skim the readings, and go to the reviews you'll do fine. Actually such an easy class!
Prof. Ireland's teaching style didn't work for me. She is very kind and knowledgeable, but didn't explain concepts in a beginner-friendly way. The tests are really difficult, and unless you understand the concepts inside and out, it is hard to do well. I failed the first few exams, but got As when I stopped attending class and taught myself.
Honestly shes fine. Youll mostly deal with TAs. The class is kind of fun and kind of sucks at the same time. Tests are riduculously hard. Go to the TA reviews and youll be fine.
It's clear that Professor Ireland knows the content, but she struggles to teach it effectively. There's an assignment pretty much every day of the week, and some of them ask for things that she hasn't gone over in class yet. I found that I taught myself better than she did. She also has a test every other week, including the week before finals.
I thought this class was so hard. Great professor, always willing to help and answer questions, but I hate physics. Maybe I'm not a physics person I guess. But it's so test heavy and the tests are really hard, I failed all of them that weren't in class. Textbook was helpful.
She is a nice professor and she teaches well, but the class is not meant to give students success. We had 7/8 exams and our averages were consistently low. She doesn't really curve the class either. I highly recommend not taking this class from Dr. Ireland, but just wait a semester and take it with Dr. Francis, he will actually try to give you an A
Professor Ireland is a very nice person but she struggled to explain the concepts to people who don't have a huge physics vocabulary could understand. Lots of confusing work that if you don't understand at the beginning you up to not do well for the rest of the course. The class is VERY test heavy and I failed all except the in person tests.
This is by far the HARDEST class I've taken at BYU. Terrible teaching, assignments due nearly every day of the week and also bi-weekly exams that were super difficult and not like the homework at all. She gave no practice questions either. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS FROM HER! I should have listened to the reviews and waited another semester for Francis.
If you are lazy, do not take this class from her. She makes you work for an A. If you want an easy grade, then take from someone else. The tests are insanely difficult. Go to the TA labs every single day and you'll be fine.
Ireland a very intelligent person; she can't really dumb it down. The course was very hard, with a test every other week. Even going into her office hours, I felt unprepared for what was on the tests. It is hard to understand what she teaches without having extra knowledge. I would wait to take with another professor if you are aiming for an A. :)
Dr. Ireland's class was okay. However taking notes, acing the homework, and practicing problems for the exams never seemed to set me up for success. Each exam was some random curve ball. The averages for each being very sad. Reading the textbook, practicing, and attending the TA lab still didn't really help at all.
Took Physics 105 from Ireland. I will admit it is not my best subject, but she was very unhelpful everytime I met with her, and told me to "practice more". I had over 100% on all assignments, but failed most exams. The homeworks were too easy and the exam questions were too hard, complex, or confusing. Take another professor if you can.
I don't know how Prof. Ireland sleeps at night knowing what she does to students. This class destroyed me. Each homework would take hours, up to 40 pages of reading per class, and exams every other week. The class averages on exams were so low all we could do was laugh. Ended up taking 6 HOURS on the final because she tests at such a high level.
I took 105 from Francis and failed and retook from Ireland and got an A-. Most the people that struggle in this class is because of the algebra. Ireland teaches the concepts very clearly. It is a hard class but it is relatively simple once you figure it out. Tests are not written well IMO, but overall it is doable. I liked her more.
Professor Ireland did a great job in her lectures, I always thought they were entertaining and informative. It's easy to get an A in the class if you do the assignments. She gives lots of opportunities to try questions again on the quizzes and the in-class questions. The hardest part was keeping up with the frequency of the exams
she has a homework assignment due every single day and a test every other week. lectures were unhelpful because they looked nothing like the homework. homework also looked nothing like the test. the class average grade was a C- nearly all semester and she only curves if "she feels like she should". TA lab is always busy, good luck receiving help.
This was an incredibly difficult class for me, but Professor Ireland was so supportive and helpful. I would have preferred more explanation in lectures (normally we just did practice problems) but she was very present and willing to help. Go to office hours, get to know her, and you'll do fine.
Ireland's classes are difficult. You have to study a lot to succeed. I took her class in my sixth semester, studied every day in the TA lab, and I still only got an A-. Her exams are very tough.
Prof Ireland is great at teaching and she's happy to answer questions. I didn't go to class after the first few weeks, but did the pre-class work and went to THE TA REVIEW before the exam. You're allowed one paper of notes for every exam, and it's helpful to just write down what they go over. Overall, easy general credit and the professor is good.
Dr. Ireland is a great Professor! The class is well formatted and if you put in the work you'll do well. T.A Labs, class and Exam reviews especially, are a must to do well in class. Everyone is very willing to help you succeed in this class if you take the first step
She was super awesome for physical science! There are quite a few midterms, but that that's up to the course makers. She does a good job of helping students know what is going on and what is expected of them. She trys to make the class involving and fun.
Great class to take first semester. Definitely is a wake up call from high school but this is a perfect class to introduce you to the workload of college. If you do the lessons and pay attention in class you will do well.
I loved this class, and I did very well in it, even though I am a business major. The TAs are super helpful, Professor Ireland is available outside class, and the class isn't that difficult overall. The tests aren't bad; you get a sheet of notes on every test, and it's all multiple choice. Overall, a good time, just do the work and go to class.
Professor Ireland is a really good instructor. She teaches difficult concepts easily and gives lots of support. She makes sure that every question in the class is answered by her or the TAs. There is a lot of work but as long as you don't procrastinate, you're all good.
Dr. Ireland was a great professor for PS100. Her lectures were engaging and she broke concepts down very well. She was accessible outside class and always willing to answer any questions in class. The exams weren't too hard and we got to take a page of notes into the testing center.
This class might be lecture heavy there's a lot of fun learning and demos she does. You'll enjoy learning about a lot of the content, it's fascinating.
Ireland is a great professor! Just do all the homework, ask questions, and make a notes sheet for the test. She explains things well.
She was a great teacher and did a great job at helping us understand difficult topics.
She was great
Awesome professor, she explained all the topics well. Has fun demonstrations for a lot of the classes. Decent amount of homework but it's pretty manageable. Tests aren't too bad and she prepares you well. Overall had a great experience.
Good professor. Her lectures are helpful as long as you pay attention during them. Lots of homework as you are required to complete the work outside of class and then go over it during class but overall not too bad.
Sister Ireland is INCREDIBLE. You will have to put work in to understand, but that's because of the course material. I love the way she structures the class because you learn about the topic before coming to class, and then she bases the lectures off the things we struggled with in the online lesson. She is SO LOVING, SO SMART, AND SO INSPIRING.
I enjoyed the class cause I felt like I could go at my own pace. Homework and classwork was never crazy long. I never really used the textbook, just used the homework questions to learn the basics. TA reviews were super helpful.
This class is really easy if you have a good background in science already. I took physics and chemistry in high school. You can tell Professor Ireland has a deep understanding of physics and she is very good at teaching this class. She geniunely cares about all her students. This was one of my favorite classes this semester.
The class is fairly easy; there's just a lot of busy work. It can get deep into very technical details, but the tests are mostly based on remembering concepts rather than solving problems.
I loved Sister Ireland! She is a very caring and kind professor. She lets you know clearly what she is looking for, and genuinely wants you to succeed. However, the class itself does require a lot of effort. If you are willing to do all of the classwork, readings, and study for each of the 4 midterms you will do well. (go to ta reviews, SO HELPFUL)
Professor Ireland is the sweetest! She truly cares about her students. Everything is clearly laid out and if you just do all the work when you're supposed to on time, you will thrive in this class. If you dislike science as much as I do, I would recommend going to her office hours and the PHYS 100 TA lab--they are so helpful!
You have to read the textbook chapter and submit a quiz before each class period. But they really aren't that hard. Reviews before each midterm/final, and the questions are straight out of the reviews.
great teacher
The grading structure of the class isn't hard; the majority of students got A's. But it is a lot of work and the lectures can get boring at times, although that may be more related to the content than Sister Ireland. She's a kind person who will answer any questions you may have, just be prepared for lots of reading if you want to do well on tests.
