She is very nice and willing to help if anyone needs it. Her papers are not difficult but she grades them fairly.
I did not like this teacher at all. She was not the most helpful or friendly teacher. Ugh
I was not fond of her, very interested in her own opinions and not friendly about others views. Homework was easy enough and you could get good a good grade if you write what she wants you to.
I'd say she is a good teacher. She is clear and willing to help if you ask for extra help. She's not the easiest but she is fair.
This professor was awesome. She was very helpful. She was hard on grading papers, but let you turn them in again with all corrections made. If you want to actually learn to write rather than just pass the class, she's the person to take it from.
I had this teacher two semesters ago. From the beginning she was not very friendly and could be intimidating. My problems began when she began writing hate notes to my friend and making comments about his race. During teacher evaluations she threatened us and told us she would come after us if we wrote anything bad about her. Wouldn't recommend!
She is a really nice person, works hard to give you good feedback, and helps you write better. 2 textbooks are required, you need to show up if you want to pass, and there is a lot of writing involved, but extra credit is available and she works with you so you can pass and get better. She is very clear and specific as well which is nice.
Good teacher, very respectful and willing to help. Of all my classes I put the most work in this one and got the lowest grade. If you're not the best writer just be aware of that. I truly don't think I could have worked harder in the class. But I don't know that it's her fault. If you like writing she's great, if it's your weakpoint just be aware.
She will really help you improve your writing. Her grading is a bit tough, but she lets you revise and so you can learn and become better. She is fair, and will work with you if you really hope to succeed.
I have never had a professor that was so invested in helping you succeed. There are a lot of papers, but she is always willing to meet during office hours to help. She gives good feedback and you get to redo up to 2 papers for additional credit. I learned a lot in her class. She wants her students to succeed if you are willing to do your part.
She cares about her students and wants them to succeed. She makes the time for you if help is needed. There arent enough extra credit opportunities in her class so take advantage of the writing center at UVU. During the semester there are very few quizzes done at the beginning of class so reading is a must. No enough feedback on rough drafts.
Had a family death and I asked her if I could leave class. She said no. She doesn't care for her student at all. Plus, she is very inconsiderate. Most of her assignments are due before class so if you work and go to school it's very hard to get things turned in before the deadline.
Very caring and willing to help. A lot of group work, but it's usually essay checking. Fairly simple class, good feedback, and the papers weren't too bad. Highly recommended.
At first, I was hesitant in taking this class from her because her reviews were so mixed. I don't have the best track record with english classes, but she takes the time to explain things to me. Free textbook, she truly does care about her students learning. Keeps you engaged and alert throughout the class. I'd take classes from her again
This professor is a very tough and unfair grader. She is unclear on her expectations and her canvas is very confusing. It is very difficult to score well on her rubric no matter how hard you work on your papers. I would recommend another professor.
Professor Schumann has been the most helpful English professor that I've ever had. She gives really good feedback on your work so if you take the advice that she gives you, you'll do well. She was always available for questions either in office hours or by email. She can be a tough grader but she'll always give feedback on how to do better.
The format of the class was good: the components of the final paper were due throughout the semester so you couldn't procrastinate until the end. The problem is that her grading criteria isn't very clear, and she grades pretty harshly. She uses the "C average" model for grades so it's VERY difficult to get a good grade. Would NOT reccomend her.
She is one of the worst teachers I have ever had. I worked so hard in this class on every assignment and without fail she would mark something off due to not liking it the way she wanted it. For example my info graphic was bright and she marked off points because she didn't like the color. She's an okay person but a terrible teacher.
I would highly recommend not taking English from Professor Schumann. She grades very harshly and it is a tough class. I also felt like she didn't respect me as a student in her class, which was very frustrating. She allows revisions if there is accidental plagiarism in your papers, but that's about the only way you could revise your work.
Prof. Schumann is not a fair grader. She is demeaning, doesn't respect her students, is super passive-aggressive and grades assignments based on her own personal choices that aren't in the rubrics. Heavy on group work and is the sort of "if you have questions refer to your textbook or your writing group" prof. I wouldn't recommend this class.
Ms Schumann is a caring professor who spends tremendous amounts of time providing feedback. Critiques are extensive but ALWAYS provides suggestions, resources, and links. She asks questions, and will point you toward a solution. Very available for online meetings. Her intent and much effort goes into providing students knowledge. Effort Success.
DO NOT take from this professor. Worst professor I've ever had.
She is tough but great! She is an amazing teacher and can be very helpful especially if you use her office hours.
Dropped my grade because of emergency surgery. Not understanding or empathetic. Any reasonable person would understand that you can't attend class while under an operation. :-)
Unclear about what she wants for assignments. Will not hesitate to fail you for minor mistakes. If I could go back I would take this class from another professor. Ridiculous.
Instructions for assignments were super confusing for online classes at least. When I would email the teacher with a question about the assignment instructions, she responded by saying "see page .... in your textbook" or respond with the exact same thing she posted on canvas which was the reason why I was asking the question. Harsh grader.
Larisa is a WONDERFUL English professor! She is extremely well educated, and knows how to actually teach material instead of assume students have as much knowledge as she does. The assignments are laid out perfectly, and every week is a new opportunity for easy extra credit points. She expects quality work from students, and gives helpful feedback.
Professor Schumann has the highest expectations ever for a general class. She didn't give me any feedback on my drafts, but then a ton on my final drafts and a bad grade. Other than that she was fine and accommodating.
I would never take her class again. Her criteria is not clear at all and when I tried to reach out to her she tends to have you "read the textbook again" or "review examples provided". If you're an online student take from someone else, I promise you won't regret it.
The course wasn't hard, but it was really frustrating that any time I would email with questions she would respond with variations of, "refer to xyz." I'm asking you questions because I don't understand xyz. A professor is supposed to be accessible to help you succeed and I didn't receive that from her.
Shes awful do not take for any English class.
Writing assignment after writing assignment. All prompts were unclear and she gives very little help then deducts grades because 'you obliviously did not understand the assignment'. Yeah, I wish I could grade on her on the ability to teach.
Prof. Schumann is a good person. That doesn't always make a good teacher. I did not feel safe asking questions in her class because she would always look at me like I had drooled on her shirt, and she never explained anything. She would always just point you back to the book or syllabus.
Every day was a gift. Anyone who takes her class leaves more literate and a better person.
She was always well-prepared for class but flexible too.
This class is tough, but not impossible. I spent a lot of time going over papers. Professor Schumann is very available though and took the time to meet with me before each essay was due. Even though it was very difficult, take this class. My writing skills vastly improved because I took this class.
Professor Schumann has a very clear and easy organization built for this English course. We wrote many essays during the course; however, there were not few other assignments given on top of the essays. Her class is set up for you to learn and succeed in this class. I would take one of her courses again.
Professor Schumann is a great professor who really cares about your learning. She always leaves feedback on your papers so you can improve your writing which I really appreciated. I learned so much in this class and would take it again.
She had a way of speaking to the class that helped me better understand what was going on. She was such an understanding person and always helped me catch up with class. At the end of the course she takes advice from the students and asks on how she can improve which means a lot and it shows that she just wants students to succeed.
The professor provides detailed feedback to help with each assignment. Stay on top of the due dates and give effort in your writing assignments. Great class for a foundation in writing. Professor wants to help and is also reachable if you have any questions or concerns!!
She gave helpful feedback as well as second chances to turn assignments in late for a small penalty. Papers are interesting, but graded harshly.
Professor Schumann is passionate about english. She teaches simply so it is easy to understand. She is very kind and including of all of her students. I learned so much in my english class with her!
Her grading is harsh but fair. If you miss class you lose points. The prompts for the papers are really interesting. She is a fun teacher with lots of interesting in class discussions about rhetorical devices and argument structures ranging from cookie recipes to geopolitics.
The class was great! She was very caring and willing to help me understand the content and even offered time outside of class to meet with her for the assignments. Her feedback was very helpful and and she was very clear as to what what expected. If you show up, participate and do your assignments in time then it should be easy to get a good grade!
Professor Schumann was my favorite english teacher I have ever had! She actually helped me to enjoy english and writing, and I never have enjoyed it before.
Very helpful and is more focused on the writing and quality it is more then you rushing through to get it in on time.
Mrs. Schumann is a very organized and helpful professor. The class in not too hard. There is about 4 major essays in the class, but she always gives the whole week they are due to complete them. She is very good at giving feedback and working with her students. Overall, I did not have a hard time with her class.
Dr. Schumann makes it clear from day one that her objective is to help you improve. Even though online classes are not for me, I noticed that her course and the assignments were organized in a way that help students gain critical thinking skills that will come in handy down their academic road. If online classes are your thing, she's a great option
Professor Schumann always gives feedback to students when they turn in essays, she can be a little strict but if you turn in your assignments and do what your suppose to do then this class will be easy for you.
I was continuously told that I was never doing anything right but wasn't shown how to fix the problem. I felt like even though we had never met she had some personal grudge against me no matter how hard I tried. I wish I had constructive criticism but that isn't something you do in English, I guess.
An amazing professor. I would highly recommend taking her class.
Professor Larisa Schumann is a very intelligent, kind, respectful, and helpful person. She was always willing and available to meet with her students. She met with me each week to answer any of my questions or to clarify certain assignments. I liked that she'd include additional reading material to help us learn. She was fantastic!
She told use that we could get extra credit if we left a good review with a screenshot. I am doing the opposite
Professor Schumann is very kind, and is of course willing to help when needed. However, her grading criteria is not clear at all, and it is extremely difficult to get a good grade on the papers that she assigns. Overall would not recommend.
lots of essays, good at teaching mla and helpful online
She really cares about you, she wants you to get engaged with the assignments and she helps a lot. Professor Schumann is very kind and is of course willing to help when needed
She's always willing to help when needed, professor Schumann is very kind.
Professor Schumann is the worst professor I've ever had. She will give you a bad grade if your political opinions do not match up with hers. She was very difficult to work with. She basically wants you to fail her class. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT take this class from her.
Passionate about the subject and is willing to work with you one on one
She accuses you of things you don't actually do and fails you for it. Doesn't teach you the content and expects you to know it for the essays. Unless she makes changes she shouldn't be allowed to teach.
Her rating was a high 2 around a month ago. All her students were given extra credit to leave a good review.
I really loved taking this class with her. You can tell how much she loves english, and her students whenever you go into her classroom. Yes she gave us essays, but it is an english class! They were good assignments. On the last day of class, she also asks for feedback on what to do better, which helps her to continue in order to help her students.
Professor Schumann is a very kind, and caring professor. Though her class is somewhat difficult, and homework heavy, she is always willing to work with you. If you don't want to put any work into this class, don't take it, because that's what's required of you. She offers so many office hours and her personal time to help you. Be willing to work!
I found her class to be pretty easy. Don't care for her as a professor, though. She holds grudges against students and retaliates against negative feedback while grading. She forced a student to confess to hating her in front of the whole class. She's standoffish and difficult to talk to. Very unprofessional; avoid if possible.
If I could leave a lower rating, I would. If you can get on her good side, do it. Better yet, don't take her class. She insists that I see a tutor when it's her one and only job to teach me how to write. you are better off taking any other class anywhere else. Don't expect timely feedback... don't expect feedback.
Professor Schumann was an amazing professor that truly cares about her students and wants you to succeed. I would highly recommend taking her! she gives you extra time if you need it, will help you if you feel you are behind and encourages group work. I would definitely take her again
Ms. Schumman was an amazing professor! She is very caring and gave us enough time to finish all of our writing assignments. She even helped me and many (if not all) of the students find extra sources for our research. 10/10 would take her class again.
Larissa Schumann was a great professor! She was easy to work with and she is great at helping you out in any way she can. Even though there was a good amount of homework for the semester she sectioned it out well so it wasn't overwhelming.
She is very caring about her students. The research paper that we worked on the whole semester, she knew everyone's topic and would give them sources if she saw something for them. She is understanding and will work with you to make things happen. I would for sure take her class again.
Professor Schumann is the best English professor I have had so far. She is always available to answer questions and give you feedback. The course is well outlined, and you have plenty of time to create quality assignments. She is always clear about her rubrics and grading criteria.
Professor Schumann is an excellent educator. Her class runs at a great pace. She is always available to give you feedback or answer your questions.
Professor Schumann's class was awesome! She is so caring towards her students and super easy to work with. There were a few times I needed help or had questions and had to send her an email and she would respond within the hour. If you show up to class and turn in your work on time you should get a good grade. She is really fun too.
Professor Schumann was great! was always super responsive whenever I had questions. She also would respond to my emails very quickly whenever I needed help with an assignment would definitely take her class again.
Loved this class! The way she structured the class was genius and it helped so much. I have never loved English's, but Dr. Schumann's quick wit, sarcasm, and genuine care made it so much easier!
Professor Schumann explained the assignments really well, and had assignments due within the main essay assignment so it was easier to stay on top of your essay. For example an assignment would be to turn in the first draft of your introduction and so on. These assignment made the final writing assignment not as intimidating and easier to write.
The professor in this course also taught class members logically and guided the teaching in a question-and-answer format with more focus on group discussions and tests. She not only did that, but she kept the class interesting by leading assignments and quizzes, both individually and in groups, as well as writing and online quizzes.
The instructors in this course also taught class members logically, focused more on group discussions and tests, guided teaching in a question-and-answer format, and used assignments and quizzes individually and in groups, as well as writing and online quizzes. He led the class and made him interested in the class.
The class is very insightful and really helped me learn about myself as a writer. There is basically one big assignment that you work on throughout the class with a bunch of smaller assignments to help build on it. Overall amazing class. Professor Schumann is very willing to work with you and help you succeed.
Professor Schumann has a syllabus that has a clear schedule and what to expect in her class. It may seem like a lot of work but as long as you complete everything on time your grade will be amazing. Take advantage of seeing her in her office to get feedback. Do not be afraid to ask her questions. I would take this class again.
Professor Schumann is probably the best English teacher that I've ever had! She has a very good pace set for the class, and is all about crappy first drafts and revisions afterwards. I can always count on her to give great feedback, and she even gave me and others articles to look at when we were writing our research argumentative essay.
This class was well pace and expectations were extremely clear and appropriate. Larisa was extremely caring and inclusive and I always felt welcome in her class.
Professor Schumann gave a set schedule with appropriate expectations. She was also extremely inclusive and caring and made my English experience better than I was expecting. This class was well paced and manageable. She gave us great resources to help us become better writers and was also willing to help us however we need!
The class had a specific layout and calendar made at the beginning of class. My professor broke down the essay into smaller assignments. The professor had a reading quiz almost every class, and required each student to attend class on time. Overall, it was a class that made me think and put effort into, but was less stressful than other classes.
This professor gives us a lot of opportunities to chat with peers and with the professor herself so it can allow feedback and criticism for you on what to work on, either for you personally or on your assignments.
Prof. Schumann runs a fantastic class. Reading and assignments are challenging, but help is plentiful and accessible. She's forgiving with due dates, has lots of open hours out of class, and offers lots of little extra credit opportunities. She clearly wants her students to learn from and pass her class.
I loved Professor Schumann, and she ended up being one of my favorite professors. She expects a lot, but she is willing to work with you on everything. She listens to what we students have to say, and she believes a lot in group work which is really helpful, but also very fun. this is someone who is awful at writing and English :)
She is awesome! She really cares about her students' success. She clearly explains the assignments she gives, but if you don't understand something she will always answer your questions about them. She gives multiple opportunities to get some extra credit. There's a lot of group work in her class, therefore attendance is really important.
Dr. Schumann is a professor I highly recommend. She is so thoughtful and really looks out for her students. I took English 1010 from her and knew I had to have her for 2010. She gives you plenty of time complete assignments and gives you plenty of resources if you need any help. If you stay on top of the assignments you will do great in her class.
Professor Schumann was an excellent teacher, and the curriculum of this class was super organized and helpful. I would definitely take her again!
I really learned so much! I enjoyed my professor and felt like I could go to her with any questions, asking for help with personal or being school related. I truly felt like my foundation of English was strengthen. Expect to work, but in a fun way that you actually feel satisfied after taking the class. Super grateful!
Such an awesome professor. Very understanding and kind. Simple, well paced curriculum and always has a couple extra credit assignments!
This class is almost entirely based on the research paper due at the end of it. Fail that, and you fail the class. While that adds a lot of stress, Professor Schumann guides you through the whole process and makes it achievable. If you go to class and keep up to date with your frequent but small homework assignments, you will do well.
Good professor. By the end of the semester, I became friends with most of my classmates and with my professor. She taught an engaging and interesting course focused on rhetoric, and I really enjoyed the experience! This is the way English class should be taught.
Professor Schumann is always willing to help you and wanting you to succeed. I always feel like I could talk to her and she would pay attention. I also loves how she taught her class. I totally recommend !!!
She is not clear on how she is going to grade and offers extra credit for leaving a 5 on rate my professor. Hard pass for me.
I was dreading having to take another english class mandatory to complete my degree. Professor Schuman really made lectures interesting and the work had enough time to complete on subjects chosen by students to engage students on the purpose of the assignments. I appreciate Professor Schuman's way of teaching and her availability to help.
She is a good teacher. Make sure that you turn in your work on time and make sure you get the textbook that is needed for the class.
Overall the grading system sometimes takes a bit for her to grade, the class however is pretty easy to get through. She clearly defines each assignment and answers any question people ask. Sometimes the rubric can be a little confusing but group work helps clear any questions.
This professor is really good with redoing assignments and getting points to make your grade higher
She was very willing to work with me if I needed an extension on something. She gave good advice and feedback on assignments.
Professor Schumann is such a caring teacher and really wants to make sure everyone succeeds. I really enjoyed her class I would recommend to take.
Very slow/chill classes. Homework was minimal and short. Relaxed late penalty.
Assignments were easy and self-explanatory. Opportunities for revisions and extra credit. Only complaint is that attendance is mandatory, but we didn't do much with class time.
Professor Schumann is definitely the most caring professor I've had. She always cared about her students and was willing to work with them individually outside of class times. She offers many extra credit opportunities and you can usually re-submit assignments to receive an overall better grade. I would definitely have Professor Schumann again.
Professor was pretty great! My only complaint was when we had to meet with her when class wasn't held where she described it as "not required" but would count it against attendance if we didn't meet. I think it would've just been better to count it as credit. But otherwise, great professor!
I really loved having Professor Schumann as my teacher. She is definitely the most caring professor I've had and is super caring and understanding of personal issues students might be going through. She is always willing to help outside class and always offers extra credit opportunities. I would definitely take Professor Schumann again.
Larisa is generally a nice professor. She is very accessible in office hours, as I have talked to her about my assignments by simply going see her when she's in there. However, she is not super receptive to questions in class as I have been accused of "not listening" or "talking back". She is nice but sometimes can be a bit judgmental.
Professor Schumann cares deeply about each of her students and truly just wants the best for them. She sets office appointments for those who need extra assistance with assignment. One of the best things that I've liked about her class is the group work and the feedback I have gotten from her because writing can be one of my weaknesses.
This professor was extremely helpful and understanding when it came to assignments. The grading was a little harsh at times, but other than that I enjoyed the class very much and found it to be very beneficial.
This professor is very helpful when it comes to assignments. Sometimes the grading can be harsh, but I always felt like I was learning something new. I found this class to be very beneficial.
This professor is very helpful when it came to assignments. At times the grading was harsh but I always felt like I was learning something new. I found this class to be very beneficial.
Professor Schumann is so fun and caring! She will give you plenty of time to accomplish your assignments and is available in person or by email. She really want to see her students succeed not just pass a class. She will search for opportunities for you to progress in your college career outside of her class.
Professor Schumann was a great English professor and helped me gain confidence in my writing. Sometimes I was unclear on grading and her expectations but overall the class was run well.
Challenges your writing skills. It made me understand what I needed to work on. She held personal conferences whenever you needed that helps if you are ever lost or need to make sure you're on the right track! The group work was easy and didn't need to be done outside of class!
Schumann allows for a lot of group work to be used in class. She plans out the weeks and pretty much the whole month so you can see everything that you will be doing. Attendance is a percentage of the grade so, if you show up and do your work it is fine.
She was a great teacher throughout the semester. I believe if she could be more specific when correcting assignments she would be amazing.
She gives good feedback and provides students with easy to use templates.
This professor helped me better my writing skills. Although grading was tough and a little unclear, at times, she really helped evaluate ones readings by holding professional meetings to get one on one connection with each student. Super chill class to take, definitely recommend.
She was pretty easy to work and and encouraged meeting with her outside of class. She is definitely a hard grader so look carefully at her rubrics but most importantly share your ideas and opinions. She likes discussion but her lectures are never very long.
She challenges you to do you best in class. She is very strong grader but it will benefit you in the long run. She is amazing. I do recommend to take her class.
She really emphasizes group activities, this really helped with most quizzes and assignments. With that you can learn to build a great relationship with your classmates, so it made me want to be there. As well as she is very helpful on your assignments and for my final essay, she even helped me by giving me websites and sources to look at.
Does not stay up to grade with grading but does want the best for her student.
Be prepared to write a lot.
Professor Schumann has been one of my favorite college professors. Her lectures are super easy to follow and understand, and her meetings are really helpful.
I overall enjoyed being in her English 2010 class. Provided an easy going and chill environment.
Professor Schumann was the best English professor I had. She was there to help you if you needed extra help, and it was very easy to understand everything you had to do. Attendance is mandatory, and you need to buy a textbook but it's only $20. I would definitely take her again.
Great professor overall. Definitely want to have her check your papers before you submit them to make sure you are on track with what she is looking for.
This professor is good her course is confusing and due dates change a lot without notice you have to watch very carefully.
She is extremely helpful and will give you great feedback. She is also willing to listen to your own feedback.
The layout of this class is really beneficial for the final project.
organized. Teaches well and leads good discussions. It will be work but just because english 2010 is work. No pointless busy work which is nice. She is available to meet and is forgiving with due dates. Leaves good and helpful feed back. is nice.
Larisa Schumann is very fair with grading and is ready and prepared for each class. I would highly recommend her if you have the choice.
She was a great professor and the class was easy to participate. I was surprised at the grading, at times it was harsh. There was three main projects and the last one is a group project. Honestly, if you show up and get everything turned in its a fun course.
She's a bit of a tough grader, but overall her class is very interactive and I learned a lot. She rewards self-advocacy and will always be there to help if you ask. The assignments were very spread out and she gave enough time for the assignments.
Anybody who says Larisa is a bad teacher just doesn't know how to take responsibility. She gives plenty of time ahead to complete projects, extends deadlines when needed, and overall has a "servants heart". She's teaching to help a future generation be exceptional individuals, not just to give lectures.
Professor Schumann is so sweet and understanding. This class pushes you, but is not overwhelming in any way.
Group work heavy but it makes the class easy if you attend class. Engaging professor
Professor Schumann was the best! She always gave great feedback to make my papers better and I really felt like I learned a lot from her.
I loved her class. She made always made the assignments really clear on what needed to be done. I loved how we learned more than just english in this class and she applied the class to the outside world. She is awesome and is willing to help if needed!
The textbook she picked has many templates that she encourages us to use. She believes that there is no shame in using templates and external tools to better facilitate learning. She also encourages use to step out of our comfort zone and explore different ways of writing.
Dr. Schumann is great! I've had her for two different English classes and both have been awesome. She assigns a lot of small assignments as part of larger projects to keep students from procrastinating. She gives great feedback, and really cares about student success, she even brought in articles she read that she thought would help students essays
Professor Schumann is a great teacher. She was able to make English class entertaining. Occasionally, she would show us skits relating to topics we were learning about and they were actually helpful and funny. She made sure no one left confused. I've learned more about writing in this class than in any other English class I've taken.
