good class
Easiest class ever, fairly interesting too
Rad class. Cool subject matter, plus he obviously loves to teach it!
Super nice guy. Best class in outdoor Rec.
Easy class
Awesome guy. Easy class.
Outstanding teacher who offers a unique perspective on wilderness.
Great teacher and fun class. Take it you'll like it! He is very helpful and finds time for his students.
The class is easy the guy has dry humor that if you can understand will have you on the floor laughing. Great teacher and a good-hearted man.
Good power point presentations. Stay on top of lecture notes and you'll do great!
can use study guide for quizes. So u get 100% on all of them. Exams are very detailed but u can still get an A. Its very easy if you just go over lecture notes very thoroughly. Take this class for an easy A. Final is camping, or park volunteering.
great teacher
great teacher, warm personality. introduces really cool subject material, and mixes things up with good films.
He wants you to succeed - take good notes (no final, just 3 tests), do community service or Aztec Adventure, take no brainer reading quizzes and enjoy one of the better classes and professors.
One of the easiest teachers I have had. Quizes everyone can get A's on. A lot of notes, but easy to study them. 3 tests, and no final make this class great. Final is to go on an Aztec Adventure (u have to pay for) or to volunteer 8 hours. Great Class
if you take this class go every class session and make sure that you do community service or aztec adventures. take very clear and detailed notes, and also write down notes that he says not to.
very knowledgeable teacher, interesting class, easy if u go to class and take notes, tests are based on lectures so must attend. nice teacher.
Beck is the micest dude from SDSU faculty. Real understanding. Take notes every day and fill out quiz study guides for an easy A.
Great teacher. Go to class, take the notes, listen and do well. His quizzes are a joke. Just fill in the study guide questions and bring them to class. Nice guy.
Take notes, listen n go to class. He gives u a study guide for the quizzes, fill that out n u will ace the quiz. 3 tests n final that's optional as long as u write a 2-3 page paper on volunteering at mission trails or going on an aztec adventure.
Very good GE course, teacher tells you exactly what you need for the test. Easy A, just pay attention in class.
Kindest teacher at SDSU. He is passionate about what he teaches. Easy class to pass. At times, he can be a little boring & mono-toned but you can't help but like guy, he's real cool and wants you do do well. Take this one!
Incredibly nice teacher and pretty easy class. Take notes in class and the tests will be no problem. The assigned texts are no problem either. Easy A if you go to class!
First off, i went the whole semester to this class and i left it still not knowing what the point of it all was. Such a pointless upper division class unless you're going to become a park ranger. This class made me want to pull my eyeballs out. I recommend staying away.
Awesome class. i'm an engineering major, so it was a nice change from the usual classes I take. he is very passionate about his class. The "experiential component" is great, definatley do the aztec adventure so you dont have to take the final. i heard that the final was difficult. def. attend class
easy A if you study the notes teacher can get boring no final if you do aztec adventure
There's no point to this class. I don't get why its an upper division GE because there really is no point to this class. I went to this class everyday and yet i got a C because the test questions are complete S H I T .. find another class, this one isn't worth it
i took this class because there were such good rating's on this site for him. All i know is everyone is wrong about this guy. He is horrible. He's a nice guy and all.. but he's so boring, a little piece of my soul died off everytime i had to sit through his class. Take another class this one sucks
Not to sound like a party****er but the highlight of this class was the aztec adventure trip. he is really boring his tests are awesomely hard and you have to read 4 books. not worth the effort. however, i did learn about a hippie hoe who was in a tree for about 2 yrs. what a joke.
Dr. Beck spells everything out. If you are stupid you can get an A. He tells you exactly what to study for the two tests. Dr. Beck is chill and although not exciting, is very intelegent and helpfull. all clases are powerpoint.
all i have to say is go to class and it is an easy A...do not get lazy though....
Great teacher and very passonaite about the wilderness .. didnt care much about the subject until i took this class. tests are super easy, just study the notes.. got A's on all my tests.. lots of extra credit.. no finale if you do the wilderness outing.. Fun class.. Highly recommend this teacher..
I really enjoyed this class. I learned so much and it was an easy A. I can only remember one moment in which I was bored! He's changed the class format so ignore other's comments about all the reading and yada yada. He's extremely approachable and very nice. I highly recommend the class. Be open minded and you'll really enjoy it.
Excellent Professor!!! Among one of the best @ SDSU. Highly Recommend. A lot of work, but highly wroth it. Learn alot. Thank You
excellent professor! he really cares about the wilderness and the class is soooo much fun! Its an easy easy easy A! he appreciates all the students, at the end of the semester he thanked everyone for being apart of his class! he is a nice guy! his classes are interesting sometimes, and even did a lecture on religion and the environment.
Larry Beck is by far the best professor I have ever have. His passion for the wilderness is amazing and he makes the class very interesting. He responds to e-mails very promptly and is extremely nice and approachable! I would definitely recommend this class to anyone. Best teacher/course EVER!!
Information is somewhat dry, but Prof. Beck presents it an an organized way and makes the class easy to understand.
A great professor and class. Is very passionate! I would take more classes with him. Go to class and you'll do great!
Dr. Bek is by far the greatest professor at SDSU. He is extremly passionate about what he does && enjoys teaching. I took the class to get rid of a GE but left the class with so much knowledge. One midterm & a final plus an optional compnenet ((Do it)). If Rec was my major i would take more classes just to have him as a teacher. He's so nice!!!
This class was great. the tests were easy, the reading was interesting, and nothing was too difficult...GO ON THE LA MENTADA TRIP!!! and definitely start the portfolio before the day of the final - it costs over $20 to print at kinkos
Beck is so nice and helpful you can really tell that he enjoys his job. only have to buy 2 books which total $25 and the class is really easy if you go to class i got an easy A
Larry Beck is quite the professor. If you are genuinely interested in the Rec field, you will find these classes extremely helpful as well as somewhat entertaining. I strongly suggest Prof Beck in general, i'm sure all his classes must be great.
Professor Beck is awesome. He is a genuinely good teacher and person. You can tell how obviously passionate he is. He is very helpful upon request. Books are cheap and easy to read. The portfolio required for the class is easy, but very very extensive. Don't procrastinate. Start early. Do the webquest. It's a lot easier than it sounds and is actual
Cool guy. Straight forward and clear with assignments. Very approachable and helpful. Two books "Three cups of tea" and "Mtns beyond mtns".... great easy class
Prof Beck is awesome, one of my favorites at SDSU! take his class if u can! class isnt super easy, but u will learn a lot!
Fantastic professor. I really enjoyed the course and the interactive online environment that was used. I walked away from the course with a greater understanding and desire to experience and protect our national parks.
The subject material for this class is pretty easy, so the class is too. Beck uses both online/at home assignments and in-class lectures/tests to make up grades, which is cool. No textbook, but rather 2 books: Mountains Beyond Mountains and Three Cups of Tea. Both were pretty good. 2 exams and a semester-long portfolio are also part of the grade
By far one of my favorite professors of all time! He is extreemly nice and understanding. He truly cares about all of his students and it shows! He uses Aztec Adventures trips as an optional part of the class and I highly reccomend taking one of the trips because it changes your life!
This guy is one of THE BEST professors at State. He cares about "you". He wants you to succeed and enjoy. I tookt the summer Online session, I enjoyed it. Lots of daily work, but at your own pace. He gives very easy assignments, he's clear and he wants to make it fun for you to learn and enjoy. I highly recommend. Don't procrastinate. Get the A+
He is a great professor! I took his online summer course and it was very easy even with a full time job. There was daily assignments but they were easy to do, material was great if you're interested in national parks and even the two essays were easy. Overall I recommend him because he has interesting stories and the assignments are easy.
Professor Beck is such a sweetheart. He loves VolunTourism and this class is just really about sharing the perks of VolunTourism and what an enjoyable experience it can be to change someone's life, while they change yours. It is so interesting and it has really changed my outlook on life. MUST TAKE THIS CLASS!
Professor Beck is one of the best teachers at SDSU. He is a sweet guy that is always willing to help his students. I enjoyed going to class everyday! I learned so much about national parks thanks to professor beck. Got an A in the class! take this class if u can. midterms are multiple choice and online and so is the final!
Great teacher. Cares about the class and the subject which makes a huge difference. Assignment readings are interesting and his final project was a lot of fun to do. You learn while having fun in this class. I gained a lot out of it.
The most interesting class i have taken at SDSU and he is a great professor. Great GUy that is helpful in every way and responsive. I would have minored in RTM if I had taken this class earlier. I highlty recomend taking this class with this professor. The 1/2 online style worked well for me. TAKE HIM
This is an easy class but it requires a lot of work. We had to read two 300 page novels and write a 25-28 page portfolio due at the end of the semester. The tests have nothing to do with the readings and are done at home and are really easy. A demanding class but easy to get an A if you do everything and take notes.
Great class. Lots of work and it's not easy but the professor is passionate about the subject and will draw some interest out of the students. I enjoyed it and would have switched my major to RTM if I had taken this class during my first semester at SDSU.
Terrific instructor! He is very organized and provides interesting lectures; the required readings are from interesting books published by people with experience in the field. One book is by Prof. Beck. Exams are easy if you organize and review your notes beforehand. The end of semester project was a lot of fun to put together. RTM 305 made me chan
I took the online summer course and I absolutely loved this class! There is a lot of work including a lot of study guides for the tests, and a lot of PBS documentaries that you have to watch. Also, we had to read the book Mountains Beyond Mountains. Overall this was a fun and exciting class and it really made me want to travel!
Prof Beck is a true teacher of life. You will gain more knowledge about life and the world in this class than any other you take at SDSU. Lots of material but very easy reading. Course will enlighten you as a human, and it fulfils a humanities. Take the online class, you wont be disappointed!!
So passionate about what he teaches. One of the nicest and most approachable professors at state. Three books that are easy to read. If you go to class and take notes the exams are incredibly EASY (online, open note). Portfolio is quite tedious so I recommend going on an Aztec Adventure. Dr. Beck is such a great person. Take this class!
My absolute favorite teacher at SDSU! He made me want to travel, help the word by being more eco friendly but didn't push those values down your throat. You only attend class on Tuesdays so Thursdays are for working on online assignments which are super easy but interesting! Professor Beck is hilarious and tells awesome stories. Take this class!
Beck is one of the nicest professors at Sdsu. There is no excuse to get anything but an a in his class. Tests are online and open notes. Only met in class half of the time. The portfolio takes some time and effort so don't be lazy. Beck inspires you to travel around the world and be a more culturally diversified individual. Highly recommend!
love this professor so much!!! very helpful and kind. and a lots fun with knowledge gained.
Professor Beck is the nicest teacher ever. His class was super easy since it was half online and half night class. The portfolio project is the most important thing in his class and it is super long so do not procrastinate. Mountains Beyond Mountains (the book you read) is actually interesting and the quizzes are super easy if you actually read.
Professor Beck is an awesome professor! I went on my first camping/backpacking trip because of this course and got to apply that experience to the portfolio project. I know people have already said it but DON'T PROCRASTINATE ON THE PORTFOLiO! It takes more time than you would think. Do the work and assigned readings and you can get an A.
Honestly the best teacher I have ever had at SDSU! Inspiring, meaningful course. Really can apply all material to your own life. Definitely take this class and do all the work, it will benefit you in more ways than one!
Professor Beck made me want to explore the world. He is so passionate about wilderness and he helps you see the beauty of it through the material he teaches. No actual textbook, just fun books that are actually inspirational. I couldn't put them down. Go to class, do the homework, and fill in the blanks from the videos and you'll do fine. Easy A.
I loved this class! Dr. Beck is clear in lectures, which we only had to go most of the time, since there were some classes that we had online work to do. He's fair in grading and what he expects and it's a very interesting class overall. I highly recommend it!
Dr. Beck is a knowledgeable, genuine, and wonderful professor. He inspires his students to travel and help others. He made this class encouraging and interesting. One of my favorite classes I've taken at SDSU. You must take this class!
This was my first online class and I have to say it was a great experience. With it being during the summer, it allowed me to enjoy my summer like I would normally and do work at my convenience. Dr. Beck really strives to make everything for straightforward and clear. Easy A if you put a honest effort in taking notes and completing the assignments.
This class is super hard but if you study, on track, and dont fall behind on your work, then it is fine. But, if you procrastinate, than this class is not for you. Overall, it's fun. There are about 50-100 videos to watch, 10+ quizzes, 2 tests, and a portfolio which is like 15-20 pages. So, lots of work if you are taking this course in the summer.
Love Professor Beck. He is so passionate about the subject and has a lot of knowledge and experience to share in such an engaging way. He truly understands how to teach students of our generation and I promise you, you won't regret him. Take him!!!!!!!!!!!! His lectures makes the class a breeze because it is enjoyable.
Dr. Beck is a great teacher. His RTM 404 class was both fun and easy to take as a summer class. RTM 404 is great because you can knock out a GE, plus it doesn't take up a lot of your time. His lectures are straight forward, and his tests and quizes are based off the study guides he provides. I would take this class over 100x.
Loved this class even though it was more work than others. Material is interesting and inspiring. Several books are read and quizzed on, as well as a big portfolio project due at the end. DON'T procrastinate on it. Mine was 20 pages long. You can take an Aztec Adventure trip in place of the portfolio report. Easy A class, good/smart professor.
One of my favorite professors and courses at SDSU! Beck is caring, intelligent, and always available to his students. He makes sure to cover quality material. I personally found the books we read and documentaries watched to be very inspiring. No textbook, he uses a novel instead (cheaper and more interesting). Easy and fun A, take this class!
Beck is my absolute favorite professor at state. I wish I could take this class again! Beck is so passionate about the topic and while going to class isn't mandatory I highly recommend it just because it's such a wonderful class to sit through. All the exams are online and if you put in some effort and you'll get an A no problem.
Dr Beck is the nicest guy you'll ever meet. He is this old dude and loves to teach this class, about the history of the national parks. You only meet once in person per week and work is all done online. there are 10 easy online quizzes, 2 online test, and a project for your grade. Class average on the tests was like a 90%, ridiculously easy class.
I took this class over summer and there's a solid amount of work but it's actually interesting/reflection-based and manageable if you stay on track. No textbook, he requires one novel and the rest is provided. Use the study guides! 10/10 recommend for those who are interested in traveling/helping others. Hands down one of my favorite classes ever!
This class is amazing, very inspirational. The teacher really wants you to succeed. Uses blackboard a lot to explain homework and other materials. There is a heavy written assignment but he divides it throughout the semester. I would definitely would take Professor Beck again!
Professor Beck is awesome, he truly cares about his students. 1 point extra credit offered everyday. Must go to class to get lecture notes, not posted online. 1 lecture per week and the other day is online. Super easy class, 2 online tests, lots of extra credit offered. One big portfolio at the end - don't procrasinate, work on it during semester!
Quizzes, 2 exams (1 midterm and 1 final), large portfolio project, and weekly lectures. This class was AMAZING. The book, Mountains Beyond Mountains, is used in place of a text; I enjoyed it. His quizzes/tests are very easy if you're prepared. He is kind and engaging. I was always happy to do work for this class. Stay on top of the portfolio
Professor Beck's class was so much fun, and so easy to complete the work as I genuinely enjoyed doing it! The book he assigns as reading is very easy to read and he fully prepares you for the quizzes with the study guides! The main portfolio assignment is hefty but is not complicated or too demanding. Overall such a great class!
Beck really wants his students to pass and is passionate. Theres 2 tests and mini quizzes every week. Thursdays are onine and every tuesday you can earn extra credit for staying till the end of class. One main paper portfolio that takes most of the semester. get the books! You will read them. As long as you do the work it's impossible to fail.
Great teacher! Mini reading/lecture quizes every week, 2 tests and a 20-25 page portfolio due at the last day of class. People who say the portfolio are hard and long waited till the last minute. If you complete each deadline you will have nothing to worry about. Easy A, really cool class, books were actually really nice to read!
One of the best teachers i've ever had. If you're interested in nature, environment, or the outdoors than this will be you're favorite class you take this semester. This class is extremely easy and helps if you have friends in the class or make friends in the class. It helps to buy the books for the class in order to help you with online quizzes.
super cool guy! the content of the class is very interesting and fun to learn about. this class is hybrid (even if it doesn't say so on webportal) so you meet in person on Tuesday and have an online assignment on Thursday. only hard part of the class is a 10 essay portfolio due at the end of the semester
Very sweet Professor with a lot of experience in his field. The class was interesting and inspiring. If you are not super interested in the material or are looking for an easy summer course, I recommend taking his online summer course - same credit for only a portion of the work. Get ready to think conceptually and write a decent amount.
Took this class to check off my cultural class requirement and it was great. He is a very nice teacher that wants you to do well. Read "To Shake the Sleeping Should" which was a great book. I used audible which made it easy to do his study guide while listening to the book. 1 portfolio project and 2 tests on top of the book quizzes . 10/10
Easy class. If youre looking for an easy A, take him. You read a book (wasnt boring at all, or long), you have a portfolio project, quizzes and tests. Its hybrid, so everything is online for quizzes and tests. The answers are also online. I waited til the last minute for the portfolio. Thats my fault, but still for an A. Just take beck!
If you have the chance to take this class with good ole Larry, YOU MUST. This was the best class I took at SDSU. I'm not one for reading but the books required for this class were so fun! There was homework every week, which included watching the coolest documentary ever. This guy is the best and there's not one bad thing to say!
Beck is a great professor! Go to office hours just to chat and have coffee, he is such an interesting person. You definitely have to put in some work for this class and don't procrastinate on the portfolio. It's not super difficult, but there isn't a lot that goes into the grade book, so if you miss a quiz it can drop your grade a lot.
