good guy, approachable, no-nonsense professor. Great lectures.
he is an a**hole. He teaches like he is in high school, seriously.
I strongly disagree. I liked him as a teacher, but even more as a person. Very interesting class, I recommend it
It's an easy class with no homework, just tests, the only thing you're graded on. However, if you don't do well on tests and you hate lectures, steer clear. The quarter is one big lecture, but the easiness almost balances it out.
Be careful in this class. Professor clarke likes to dock points off of anything he can find an excuse to, even if it isn't fair. On test's be sure to memorize everything, or you will most likely fail the class.
this teacher is very non sense and boriiiingggg. His standard is very high. You have to memorize all the material (about 4 chapters) exactly the same. He doesn't give any review and extra credit. He never concern about his students. So, be careful !!!! This class is very unintresting. You will regret if you take his class.
Bad teacher!!!
no homework! just test! but you sould have a good memory to memories all the words that he have given to you to get a good mark. If not, better not taking this class
He doesn't answer honest questions very nicely. No attempt to rephrase or clarify any ambiguous answers, and treats you like an imbecile if you don't understand. The tests are a CHORE to prepare for predictable. He tells you what to study, although it is close to 30 terms with length definitions. If you have a photographic memory, you'll soar.
great teacher, great, class, so easy!!!!! make you learn and understand everything!
Lectures can be interesting but tend to wander all over the place. Only tests in the class and no extra credit so there's no other way to get your grade up. I found him to be only mildly interested in his students and not a good person to go to for advising.
Tests are word for word basis on deffinitions fromt he book, it you are bad at momorization don't take this class! He tries to be flexable but usually you end up getting the short end of the stick. Half my class ended up dropping by the end of the quarter because of the tests.

This is the meanest teacher I have ever encountered. When I told him I was struggling in the class and asked if I could meet him in his office for assistance with my questions, he told me no and said that I should know and that I obviously hadn't studied. He then reported me to my counselour and said that I was a bad student!!
really easy class, but very boring at the same time. just memorize all the terms he gives you and you'll get an easy 4.0
This class is taught through rote memorization. You literally repeat everthing back on his tests word for word. If you miss words, he docks points. He has taken an interesting subject and made it nearly unbearable.
Bad teacher ! Very unhelpful ! He really doesn't care about his students. He doesn't know how to teach. The class is sooo borriiinngggg !!!
easy class to take....if u don't want to be overworked.....and if you can memorize......u are sure to get a 4.0
Mr Clarke is the worst professor that I have ever encountered. His teaching skills are horrid and he expects you to memorize the textbook rather than learn the material as it applies. He is combative and hard to talk to as he feels that he told us at the beginning of the course what his rules are. Do not question him. NOT RECOMMENDED!!!
teacher lectures are interesting but tests are SUPER hard. There are no assignments but teacher expects you to memeorize word for word from text book or you miss the whole problem. all tests are essay & short answer only! no multiple choice! Hard to pass this class even if you have great attendance and are interested in class. Would not recommend!!
Sociology. If you can't memorize, you won't pass this class. Period! All tests were a course in memorizing (verbatum).

Larry Clarke is an absolutely horrible teacher. Half of my class has dropped because of his hard level of grading, and unwillingness to change anything. Your grade is based on 3 nearly impossible exams. He gives no credit for homework or class participation. This is the one class that screwed up my 4.0 transcript. What a mistake! DO NOT take this!!
Please,,Don't take this class. He really doesn't like a student visiting his office. He is unfair..I regret about taking this class..
Pay attention to the definitions that he gives, and memorize them word for word, and you will do great. also attend group presentations... they are mandatory, no need to read the book.
Its the easiest class. No need to buy the book. Just attend and prepare the presentation. For exams, just memorize the definitions. Clarkes a bad prof. but its an esay A
Holy crap he is the meanest teacher I have ever encountered. I dropped his class. I got a flat tire on my way to school one day and it was taking forever to get it fixed. An outline was due that day so I called him to tell him the situation and he screamed at me over the phone. Dont take him if you want a nice teacher.
What 6/28 said. If you can cram/memorize definitions for the tests, you'll do fine. The group presentation mainly entails copying the textbook into powerpoint and reading it to the class. He doesn't require you to do any reading or homework, great for me/sucks for some people. He's intimidating but not mean. You won't learn anything in this class.
Pros: Lots of experience. (20+ years of teaching), no tests, easy grader.Grade based on 1 presentation and 5 chapter outlines. Very good at explaning tough concepts and provides various examples. Always lets the class out early. Cons: Speaks/writes slowly. Repeats syllabus info. for the first 15-30min the first 4 weeks of the quarter. Is often late
Honestly, anyone can do well in his class by just coming, taking notes, memorizing the definitions and writing it out word for word on the exam. If you want to do extremely well, then contribute in class because that's pretty much what the class if for, students just share their own experiences which more or less apply to the topic we are on.

he is a very easy and fun teacher, you just need to read and write outlines every week, and no quizes or tests or final exams!! and during class, you need to make sure you can answer his questions if he ask you to, cause it matters to your outline grades. and his classes are really interesting, i enjoy every of his class!!
He is by far my favorite teacher. I signed up for this class because i had to, and at first i wasn't to excited, but he made the topic relate to everyday life so it was very interesting. i tend to be a huge procrastinator, but i loved this class. Very interesting, and he is very supportive and helpful for students that put in effort.
No quizzes, tests, or exams at all. All you have to do is writting 10 outlines and answering his questions when asked. Unable to answer a question will result in a 10pts deduction from the grand total(300pts). An easy class if you both doing the outlines and attending the class, but you might get out of the class without knowing what sociology is.
Good teacher and assigns no homework. All you do is right 10 outlines from the book and you can basically copy and that it! I 4.0'd the class....TAKE IT!
Love that there are no quizzes or tests. You still have to read the book in order to be able to participate in class. You DO learn from reading the chapters & being present for class discussions. You definitely have to attend to get a good grade. He does have a lulling voice; despite that, it's a good class & a nice break from other classes!
Easiest class ever! No quizzes or tests; just outlines. We had great discussions and I really liked the class!
I really, really don't like his teaching methods. He relies on the book 100% for teaching, the class doesn't require any learning, just tons of time for chapter outlines. No real lectures or any quizzes, tests, or papers. Outlines take forever & you probably wont learn much, but if you take the time to do the outlines & go to all classes, easy A
One thing I love about his class is he never gives any test / quizzes. But we have to do outline every week which is better than a test. Never skip his class and turn in the outline on time, You'll get 4.0 automatically.
His class is very boring and tired. the hw is just outline.I don't recommend him. But I do agree that it is easy to get 4.0 in this class.
His energy was low & his voice wasn't clear. Very grumpy & has no office hours when I had him. There was no hw, & the exams were straightforward but his teaching methods made it so none of the material was memorable. If you messed up on 1-2 things on exam, it pulled you into a bad grade. Teaches straight from the textbook & had terrible anecdotes.
nice professor. class is extremely easy if you do the outline exactly as he wants. discussions are interesting and class participation is required. as long as you read the material and speak up in class and turn in the weekly outlines on time you will get a 4.0. only downfall is the outlines take about 5 or so hours to complete.
What a joke of a professor. You can tell he has tenure and checked out long ago. Doesn't lecture, just asks open-ended questions. Homework is "outlining" the text, which is basically copying word for word. Doesn't even test on material. If attendance wasn't mandatory I'd never show up. Pointless, boring, worthless class.
super easy class. HW every week, but all you need to do is copy down everything you think (more like what the prof. thinks) is important from each chapter (exactly the same words from book). Two vocabulary exams, about 5 or 6 vocabularies on each exam. They are easy as long as you memorize or understand the meanings of all the words that he gives you, and yes he would give you those words that might be put on the exam about few days or a week before the exam
Extremely easy class. You will get a guaranteed A if you do the chapter outline, group chapter outline, and your part of the presentation... that's it! He doesn't really teach anything. Its more of the students teaching each other. This class was a little too long, almost 3 hours, but wasn't terrible. Mr. Clarke is very knowledge, just very quiet.
Dr. Clarke is very helpful, understanding and engaging instructor. Loved his class!
Mr clarke is a great professor. His class is super easy. Very easy to get 4.0. I highly recommend him.
This class is a JOKE. i was interested in learning soc. but what a poor teaching method. His class IS the book you get. you rewrite the chapters word for word. & then thats about it. It is a easy A but its cause you're not really learning ANYthing. its a useless pointless class not to mention a waste of time and money. just avoid the class
His class is easy. The outlines and quizzes, he wants them straight from the book. He does have a very low, monotone, voice. And when ppl get out of control in class, he does not do anything. He lets it go. But he's also a very intelligent, worldly person who makes the class interesting with discussions about race/ethnicity.
Great teacher! He's very clear of what he wants and 4.0 is guaranteed as long as you come to every meeting and turn in your outline on time. His class could be boring but if you're willing to listen, then it can be interesting. Definitely recommended!
All this class is about is the chapter outline which you copy straigh from the book and discuss through out the week. The test are mainly vocab which he chooses 10-12 then picks 5-8. Easy A class.
weekly outlines taken verbatim from the book, the entire grade for the class--pointless, not learning anything. Some say "easy A", I say rote mechanical busy work assignments from a tired professor. If there was an alternative here, I'd take it. My suggestion: find a pdf of the textbook and ctrl. v ctrl. p, or else you better be fast at typing.
I found this class useless and I didn't learn anything. For the weekly outlines we had to copy the chapter in the text book word-for-word. The outlines were the only homework and we had three tests which consisted of 10-12 vocabulary words as defined from the textbook. Also, he was very strict in class and no note taking was allowed at all! Strange
Super easy class. There were only 3 vocabulary tests and he gives you the words that will be on the test a week before. The chapter outlines have to be copied directly from the book so they are really easy. As long as you do the chapter outlines and study for the test you are guaranteed an A. I learned a lot and want to take him for future classes.
Pointless class, makes you memorize words and you have to write them out word for word or else he takes off points, really pathetic. and then he says he gives extra credit to those who participate, which was a lie cause I participated and got no bonus points. and he will pick on students, the SAME ones over and over. Avoid this guy.
Chill instructor, do all of the weekly outlines (7 of them) and do well on the quizzes and you'll receive a 4.0. For the quizzes, he gives you 12 words that you memorize the definitions for, and you will be tested on 6 of them. Follow instructions and study with note cards and you'll most likely get a good grade
Pointless class. He is not a nice professor at all. I have no idea how come he can stands in front of the class and earn money with this poor quality sessions. Do not take his class, DO NOT waste your money!!! The worst teacher I have ever had in my life.
Mr.Clarke is one of the best if not the best professor at shoreline. He doesn't like rude students or disrespect. His class is very interesting and creates a lot of great debates in class. He is understanding and willing to work with you. Excellent Professor I would recommend talking his class!
He is a rude teacher and expects his students to know everything. But overall his class was interesting and he gave good examples which made it easier to understand. Basically come to class, do all outlines and memorize all the terms and you should get a 4.0. Attendance is MANDATORY!
Easy class, close to zero effort to get a 4.0, would recommend if you are only looking for a gpa boost
Heard that this class was an easy one so I took it, but the class was really boring at first. But overtime, The class becomes much more interesting if you participate. There are 7 outlines and 4 quiz .good class to someone who is interested in knowing basic sociology
Do not recommend. Class favours memorization not learning. Has you literately copypaste from book but not bring book in to class to use.. Hes a nice guy but you learn absolutely nothing from the class. Can easily get an A+ if you can memorize, if you have a hard time memorizing, highly do not recommend. If you can memorize, buy the kindle Ebook
This is an easy-A class but you would actually learn nothing from the class. Every week you have to submit a summary of certain chapter assigned using the exact same words from the book. Also, there are quizzes that consist of sociological terms and you have to memorize it words by words or else he'll cut your grades severely. Not recommended.
I'm kinda amazed at the fact that there are people who actually expected to learn something from this class. LOL, rule #31 in SCC, SOC 101easiest 4.0 in your life. take it when you got 2 tough classes to cope with.
You will be bored out of your mind, and learn nothing. Assignment every week is to write an "outline" for a chapter- copy an pasted word for word from the text. It's easy but you don't learn anything. In class, you just read your outline to the class, you spend EVERY class doing this. If you are white, you don't get to participate in class. ever
He is the most useless teacher I've ever met. You just copy&paste the book every week and read the so-called outline every class. Then you got two questions quiz every two weeks that basically covered hundreds of pages.. If you miss one, you're done... If he asks you question during the class, answer it! Or he will get you 20 points off...
Larry is a wonderful man outside of his lectures. His wisdom and expirience in the sociological feilds of science are amazing. However, I wouldnt take this class again. I am enrolled in Sociology 101, and I can truly say I would be better off just reading the book. ADVICE: give examples on each exam or YOU WILL FAIL. Do NOT just give definitions.
Just as everybody else said, he class is basically copying definitions. All you need to do in the quiz is writing down examples, and he will give you full point. It's easy points to get, but it's super boring and I pretty sure I'm gonna forget everything I learn as soon as I'm done with this class.
Larry is a brilliant professor and a nice guy with some great experiences and wisdom. But he's a little bit weak as a teacher. He talks very low and sounds unmotivated. Class can be boring at times. Also he doesn't maintain control of the class. There are classes where students openly disrespect each other and he will do NOTHING. I regret the class
He was such an awesome proffesor I will definitely take him
Attend class and memorize the words he wants you to memorize, get 4.0 .
He gets test questions are from the review you do in class. He means examples when he says explain. Be safe and put everything you remember. Test are usually just 3 questions. No final. No homework. four test only. Didn't actually grade attendance but gives important info during lectures. and lots of examples.
He is a respectable professor with a lot of experience in his field. One down point: he speaks very soft, therefore hard to hear. Otherwise, attend class, record every definitions he gives you. No homework. When it's close to exam date, he will tell you specifically what you need to study- learn those by heart. Definitely an easy class to get 4.0.
He just reads from the textbook, and the answer to all the questions on the test he gives us has to be EXACT definitions from textbook and amount of words we have to remember isn't little. (A LOT) It's very difficult and you literally learn nothing in this class and be BORED to death. Bad lecture Boring teacher Bad test questions. Period
His class basically consists of lectures and tests. If you're not good at testing then you won't do good in this class. But as far as tests go they're pretty easy. He just wants definitions and you'll do good. Nice guy. Loves discussion and class participation. Tells the same jokes over again but good heart.
I very much appreciated Professor Clarke's traditional style of teaching. Show up to class, participate in discussions, take notes and that is what you will be tested on. He does not give any homework. I appreciated that because I was working full time as well. He is a nice, experienced teacher. Easy, interesting class.
Want a 4.0 to decorate your transcript? Take this class with him. Very easy and straight-forward. All you have to do is come to class, take decent notes, memorize them heart by heart before each exam. Please respect the guy, he is very old and has nice intentions. Sometimes he may repeat stuffs, but that's due to his age.
Memorizing 35 terms for each exam is pointless. He makes it hard! Specially for the international students.
He only grades by 3 quizzes, but his class is an easy A if you let it be. He only tests on lectures, & only the definitions he gives you. Students are not responsible for what's in the text (I stopped reading after 2 wks). Repeat his definitions VERBATIM on quizzes & you'll ace the class. One downside to the class being so easy is that it's boring.
The only thing on the test can be found in text book. To hear what he said is quite waste of time. By the way he has no extra credit, use everything in the textbook. The only thing that you need to do is memorize them. He doesn't pronounce well, his writing is bad either. Don't waste your time and money in this class.
Mr. Clarke only graded by 3 quizzes, which you only need to memorize the definitions he gave. There's no ec/assignments, all you needa do was show up to class in order to pass. His grading scale wasn't great, but he is a very knowledgeable person. He widened my view towards the world by his life experiences. (to be continued...)
Prof. Clarke is a great man. He tests after every 3 chapters and does a good job of narrowing it down for you, so no surprises on tests. Practice definitions verbatim with note cards and you'll be fine. This man is full of knowledge and experience. Speak up when talking unless you want to repeat yourself over and over. 280/300 is still a 4.0.
Flash cards are your best friend! There is no homework but make sure you stay up to date on each definition he gives you. GO TO CLASS EVERYDAY!
Clarke has an older teaching style. Every day you cover about five words and their definitions, and talk about the words you learn. It consists of a lot of stories. There are three tests, each is made up of 10-30 definitions. You must memorize the words EXACTLY. It's an easy class and sometimes interesting class, but I didn't learn anything at all.
Lectures can be dry, but class discussion topics and the questions he asks during student presentations are very thought-provoking. In addition to the material, he teaches critical thinking and speaking skills that serve students well in future classes and in life. Read the textbook, he picks good ones.
Larry's class has been my absolute favorite out of all the classes I've taken. Your grade is only based on 3 tests taken throughout the quarter, and they are really easy. Make some flashcards the night before and you'll get an easy A. His lectures are also fun and interesting to listen to. He's super caring and easy-going, you won't regret it.
Larry was a great professor! His lectures are fun to listen to and although he may repeat himself he has interesting stories. He makes sure that everyone understands all of the materials. He really wants his students to do well, and if you use some flashcards the night before you'll be able to do it. I loved this class and I promise it is not hard
Listening is key on his class. No homework, and there will be 3 or 4 exam based on lecture.
Fine teacher, easy class, only thing you need to do is memorize word for word definitions from the book. If you try and paraphrase it he'll take points off. I would not take this class again as I prefer not just copying my notes for a test.
I was suprised to find that professor Clarke's online course had no lectures, it was completely self taught. His tests are ridiculously easy being open book/ open note. All you need to do is write down his study guide questions with answers verbatim from the text book then type them into the answer box for an easy A. I wound up learning nothing.
No interaction at all. There are no lectures and it is entirely self-study. There are optional discussions that do not have grades, which most do not participate in. Reading the textbook and doing the exams is the top priority. Written exams do not have feedback, which makes no sense. The only good thing is the study guides. Below college level.
Huge waste of money. Class was completely self taught and he takes days to respond to emails.
I am so disappointed in both this class and shoreline college. This was a huge waste of money and I wish i took something else. Larry doesn't do anything, the class is just reading and then open book quiz on the reading where he doesn't give any feedback so you don't get to learn from your mistakes. Totally self taught, I want my money back!!
The whole class is graded on three tests where you just copy and paste definitions from the textbook. His lectures were repetitive stories that rarely related to the material. He often made assumptions about and called extra attention to international students. It was disappointing, I didn't learn anything. Super easy A if you want it.
Super easy A. His online class is basically self learning, which I am totally fine with, cus I just want A and transfer to a top school.
Professor Clarke is an easy going person and he gives lectures in an old fashion way, which means he will read the definitions of certain main concepts and terms to the class. Take the front seat so you can hear better, take good notes, come to the review class before each tests, and you will likely get an A.
The class was easy. The discussion boards for the online class isn't mandatory, even when you do them you won't get any feedback. The quizzes are all open textbook and notes. Here is my tip, do the study guide, all the questions that are on the quizzes are the study guide but worded slightly different.
Great professor, very easy class. You read a textbook answering questions each week. Three tests determine your grade. Would take again.
It was an okay class. Easy, but only defined by 3 tests. There were discussion "assignments", but they were ungraded. He only stated in an announcement he would possibly consider them in one's final grade, which was annoying as they weren't actually graded. Other than that, would take again but not that much of an engaging class.
Easy A class, but not much learning. Lectures are repetitive stories, and the exams are just copying definitions from the textbook. unstuckstudy was helpful for study prep.
The whole course is graded by 3 quizzes. Each quiz is direct definitions from the textbook. He looks for specific key words in the definitions when grading the quizzes, so if you try put definitions in your own words but miss the key words, he will take points off. Better to just copy and paste directly. Overall easy A, but very boring.
