Very interesting. Pay attention to the vocabulary and quizzes will come easy. Curiel will teach you interesting facts about things in everyday life that you might not even think twice about. Take him. I actually wanted to go to all of his lectures.

I took Curiel for Summer session and he was actually interesting to listen to... he knows lots of interesting facts that i will always remember~~... his tests are fair and he tells it how it is.. i would definately recommend him.. classes would be more fun to go to with teachers like Curiel

this one of my favorite classes at cypress....i have to take again because i didnt pass but that was only because i was a slacker....his class is very easy...study and you are guaranteed an A and there is only one hw assignment.

Mr. Curiel is the BEST teacher. He tells you exactly what's going to be on each quiz and test. His lectures are very interesting too. There is only ONE homework assignment throughout the whole semester & it's eeasy. Great class. You'll learn a lot.

Proffesor Curiel is a great help to any student who is lost or does not feel confident about a test, assignment, or notes. I reccomend Proffesor Curiel, he will definately enhance your college experience.

Took his class in the winter session. It was only a week and a half long, with 6 hour days, but it was worth it. Prof. Curiel is an interesting speaker and is helpful if you have any questions or concerns. Tests, quizzes, and assignments are not terrible at all. Study your notes, and you'll do fine.

I literally counted 29+ times in 1 lecture. very smart but intimidating. he tells you what's on tests/quizzes but they're still hard.quizzes are not straight from vocab def. must know meaning out of context! need book for some tests.no hw. sometimes he was a little annoying but I still enjoyed gong to class.

He was the best teacher I've ever had. He actually cares how you do in his class and wishes you well in the rest of your life. VERY funny, always saying jokes and acting out scenes. You have to read the book to do well, but he doesn't assign much reading about 1 chapter per week. If you're taking Soc 101 you should definitly take him.

He's a pretty stuck up person. His lectures are very organized. Attendance is required because he goes over notes for the tests. Vocabulary is important. Quizzes are match up, so if you get one wrong, you screw up the others. It sucks. Psst, if you're stuck on a question on a test..he'll help you out.

This guy is pretty cool. He says what he's gonna put on the test, but there are a lot of things that aren't in there, so you NEED to do the reading. Quizes he gives the answers, but the first few one he words SUPER hard. Go to class everyday to do the In class activities. If you go everyday, you'll get at least a "C".

Engaging, funny, interesting professor. 1 hw assignment only, no essays. Has a lot of information about every topic in class. Quizzes are easy if study concepts of definitions, not memorize. Tests based on textbook chapters, so MUST READ on your own. Lectures on the other hand are useful on final. Learned a lot in his class.

He is a great professor...speeks well and clear, very helpful. Study lecture notes and any handouts given and you will do well. Vocab. quizzes and mulitple choice tests. Book is a great tool but I only read it for the final.

This guy really loves to hear himself talk, but is entertaining sometimes. Go to class and do some reading and the tests and quizzes will be easy and there is almost no homework. Overall good professor I would recommend taking his classes. His constant use of "again like i said" really bugged me though.

I would reccommend this professor to anyone who needs a good lecture and that is not from the text. I took Mr. Curiel for and intersession class and I wish I would have taken his course for a full semester. I learned so much from him in eight days!!

I would recommened him. He doesn't given much homework and he tells you what to study for the tests and quizes. There's no suprises! And if you need help on a quiz ask him, he'll just give you the answer!

I'm a 3.75 student. Here's the breakdown. Vocab Quizes are EASY, very similar to what to the definitions you have to study. TESTS are HARD, you have to know the definitions and apply them to the situation. He tells you what to study before [only parts of the test] HE DOES NOT GO OVER THE WHOLE TEST. Reading is a MUST but you will still struggle.

Very easy. He tells you what notes to take, AND exactly what's on quizzes and tests. HOWEVER you must hear him brag about how much money he has and how he wears expensive Tommy Bahama shirts etc. He says "Again, like I said" CONSTANTLY. He LOVES to hear himself speak. Don't ask a question, or he will spend 15 minutes talking w/o answering it.

A teacher with a great personality. Usually gives out handouts for his lectures and uses great examples. Has one homework for the whole semester, 4 in-class activities, 4 quizzes, and 4 tests (last one being cumulative). He also gives you the terms you need to review for quizzes, and a study guide for all his tests.

Prof Curiel is a great teacher. Very intelligent about sociology and always likes to include current events to relate his lectures to and integrates the terms into our learning that way. Seems boring at first but hes very funny. Read your book. He doesnt use it but I know students must. Lecture is interesting and tests aren't that hard.

Very fun and helpful teacher! I took Sociology 101 with him and I was actually interested in coming to class. Lectures were very interesting and used current issues as examples. Thoroughly reviews what is on the tests/quizzes.

His class is pretty easy and he lets you know in advance what you need to know. He is a little parnoid about ppl having recording devices but lets you leave the room if you need to take a call. Very interactive with students and starts the class with an open forum for ANY social topic. 90% of the work is done in the first 45 days then gets easy.

Very nice teacher, & easy class, he lectures on handouts (terms and definitions) there is an easy paper due at the beginning but its for xtra credit. Dont underestimate the lectures though, there is almost no work in this class but if you dont study the definitions on handouts well, the quizzes and tests will be confusing for you.

Professor Curiel is an extremely intelligent person. He knows exactly what he is talking about and knows exactly how to deliver it. He is very serious with his work but is also totally amusing and witty. I can honestly say that I learn something every day I attend his class. I'm very pleased to be in his class

I really like this guy. The semester I took him was very hard for me. I shattered my ankle mid-sem. and missed a bunch of days cuz of doc appt. whatnot. my final grade was a D cuz I missed some quizzes, but because I got an A on things I did make, he gave me a B. Not sure I deserved it so I'm eternally grateful to him. great guy

I currently have him as a Professor (2009), and his class is one of the ones I actually enjoy attending. He is always on task, and makes the lectures very entertaining. 100 points for the first and only homework assignment & 4 days he will do an easy in class activity if your present for all 4 you get 100 points. Can get C's on all tests and get a B in the class. Tests are hard but he gives you all the info, so study. Good lecturer, makes it fun.

My very fist college class, he is spectacular! Offers many examples and help. I learned very quickly to read the textbook most of the questions on the exams are based on the reading. Very positive, hilarious, and interesting.GET A FRONT ROW SEAT! Grading is based on point total, quizzes and tests are simple, just study. Hes an amazing educator.

Great instructor. The professor knows his material to the point of perfection, and he makes his lectures clear and most of the time, interesting. There are four quizzes and four tests, which he gives study guidelines prior. They are some times tricky, but you should get a good grade if you put some time into it. This professor knows what he is talking about! Very knowledgeable about the subject. Just make sure you attend lectures, he gives hints on what is going to be on each test. I think he's an amazing proffessor. Yes he lectures a lot but they're really interesting. Quizes are a bit tough but for tests your allowed to ask him questions during the test if you need help. I would highly reccomend him. He made class interesting. Oh! and cover your mouth when you yawn.

He lectures a lot &goes off topic but he brings it back to relate to the subject. Material is really boring but he's funny &intellectual. No books required He provides packets &reads straight from it. Class is an EASY A. He gives you all the questions that are going to be on the test &if you ask him to clarify he'll practically give you the answer.

I don't typically write reviews, but Professor Curiel is amazing. Had him for Intro to Soc (101) and Soc of Religion (277). I highly recommend taking both classes. He's VERY straightforward, only gives homework in the beginning of the semester (one assignment for 101 an 4 for 277). He tells you everything on the tests. Funny and really cares.

Just finished off summer school in his class, one of the best decisions i've made as far as picking the right class to take. You'll be wide awake in class because his way of teaching grabs everyone's attention, he uses examples that go beyond any teacher's curriculum. He's not there to waste your time, so don't waste his, you'll get an A or B.

Best sociology professor on campus! Hes pretty straight foward about everything he lectures on. He tells you whats on the tests and quizzes and for the final you go up to him, he shows you your grade and makes you feel pretty confident at the end, i recommend this guy, hes funny and his lectures will never put you to sleep.

Larry Curiel knows what he's talking about. While he uses old fashioned methods(NO PowerPoint), Curiel gets his point across, and you really learn a lot from him. His tests are easy as long as you study, and that through him, there's no such thing as a stupid question, so ask away. Overall, I strongly recommend him if you're in taking SOC101/SOC277

Amazing Professor, He is honest and crystal clear with his assignments and methods in his class. He doesn't use power points and rarely use any forms of media, yet is still very knowledgeable in his field. I would highly recommend taking him for any student who wants an engaging professor. Respect him as any adult would and he will do the same.

Does not do powerpoints.. He hands out Printed notes that you MUST PAY ATTENTION to in order to do well on quizzes. Do no study the Vocab word by word because he quizzes on Concept not definition...so PAY ATTENTION!!

Curiel is definitely an interesting lecturer, his class is based on it. It was definitely interesting. There's one hw assignment due in the beginning, ask him to look over it to get a perfect score. The quizzes are tricky. The tests require you to read the book + printed notes to get an A. It is possible to get an A, just use the book.

Professor Curiel is an amazing lecturer who can lecture for nearly two hours (with no PowerPoint) and NOT make you fall asleep. He keeps the subject interesting, on-point, and funny. His sense of humor is great. It's fairly easy to do well in his class, but you absolutely have to read the handouts on your own and study them diligently.

Great professor! Your grade depends mainly on exams. You do one written assignment during the begging of the semester & after that every other week you take a vocabulary quiz or an exam. 4 quizzes & 4 exams. His oral lecture are always interesting, never do I find myself falling asleep in class.

He's a good teacher and he knows it, but doesn't let it go to his head. Really honest, gives out all the notes (if your class doesn't screw up). LOTS of Quizzes and Tests, they weren't too hard, but study the study guide he gives, they're almost exactly the same as the test, just worded different, which may be difficult for some to comprehend.

i really like prof curiel! he is beyond clear with what he wants from you. gives you simple study guides of what will be on the test. and is very understanding if you just talk to him about things. beyond helpful ive taken more than one of his courses :) not hard if you just study what he tells you.

Prof. Curiel has got to be one of the best instructors in Cypress College. He's very detailed and organized and follows the syllabus to the T! He tells you exactly what to study for the exams and he's very strict when it comes to class policy especially about basic manners like covering your mouth when yawning, phone off the table, etc. Take him!!

He doesn't give you extra credit, so it's not an easy A class, but as long as you study hard, it's not such a difficult class. He he is very funny and nice, and he explains everything clearly. He doesn't not like people showing up late

Easy laid back guy. He talks usually all class, wants people to discuss with him, though its not mandatory. Though he is alot nicer and funner when people are participating, even if its only a few. Test and exams are multiple choice. He gives handouts so it is easy to study for. Good guy, one of my favorite classes i have taken.

Gives you what is EXACTLY on the exam. Hard work pays off here. I was borderline B/C for his class. I needed to receive an 80 out of 100 on the final to maintain my B. However, I received 74/80. When it came to my final grade, he gave me a B for the class. Turns out the percentage was 79.5. Take him.

One of the best professors ever! I took this class in summer, and he really makes the topic fun. Although his lectures are sometimes long, you really do learn so much! For the tests and quizzes, he gives you all the handouts and explains them word for word. During tests, ask him for help on hard questions and he will give you the answer. Recommend!

Best soc professor ever. Tests are very easy, but make sure to read the handout AND the book for studying. Quizzes are slightly tricky because the wording is sometimes far off from the handout's. Overall, easy A if you use the handout along with the book.

This is my 2nd time taking Curiel after taking him for Soc 277 before, and now for Soc 101. He is by far one of the best instructors I have ever had in my entire academic career. He is incredibly clear & concise about his expectations (no surprises) and his sense of humor is HILARIOUS! TIPS: Be PUNCTUAL to class& take advantage of the study guide.

This class was tough but the professor is great. The quizzes were easy because he gives handouts with all the terms and definitions on them. Same for tests but the tests are much larger. He is one of the best lecturers i have ever had and he manages to keep the class interesting but not get too off topic. I would definitely take his class again.

Mr. Curiel is a good professor that doesn't make you fall asleep during lectures. Although I don't like the idea of him giving vocabulary papers for each chapter (because it doesn't help to me), you actually have to spend some time reading your book and understand the materials. Simply study the vocabs won't make you pass your tests or quizzes

I took his class Spring 2014. I found all of his lectures quite interesting and was happy that I didn't have to try too hard to pay attention. He gives great handouts so show up to class to make even more notes on them. Do the work and study and you'll pass. He's a nice and approachable guy if you have any questions after class. Interesting class. Curiel is a funny professor, very knowledgeable of what he's talking about, and is genuinely concerned about his students' grades. If you study the definitions he gives you, occasionally read the book, and use quizlet, you'll be fine. Also, go talk to him, cuz he WILL help you.

Amazing professor with a great sense of humor, but makes you work for your grade. Quizzes are vocabulary and every definition is worded differently from the notes, making it difficult. Exams are easier, but you definitely have to study using the textbook and notes. Would recommend his class if you are a dedicated student with good attendance.

Overall, great class! Learned a lot of new things. Was very thorough on explaining things.

Tough class, only 1 homework assignment. He grades strictly on a point system and his vocabulary tests can be tough. Vocab quizzes are matching, but you need to UNDERSTAND the words, it won't be a simple "memorize the first few words of the definition" kind of test like most professors have. To do well on the tests you need to read the book.

Curiel is straightforward and cool. he wants his students to succeed. *I took this class during summer* four quizzes, three tests, one final (no midterm). also one hw assignment, and four in class discussions. can't just memorize things. you have to really understand the material. but it's not bad; the material covered is actually interesting.

There are only tests and quizzes and the quizzes seem harder than the tests. Make sure you know how to read college level because the study guides are all on text book. Theres one hw assignment and make sure you do it. Hes a really great professor and I recommend him to anyone. His lectures are funny and he is very passionate.

You come to class, he goes over the sociology vocab, then has you mark the ones you need to study. Very easy, you MUST study these words. NO homework. He is very entertaining, but will call you out if you are late to class or yawning without covering your mouth. Take him, easy A

He is a really nice teacher. He talks the entire time. You don't need to write he prints out the notes for you. through out the whole semester you do 1 homework assignment. 4 terminology quizzes and 4 tests including final. that's it. study for terms always. he gives study guides for test(: don't buy the book you won't even use it.

Sociology is boring, at least this teacher makes it a bit fun with the wacky stuff he says. He has easy in class activities randomly, so if you want to get a high grade dont miss any classes. You will need to look at the textbook from time to time but you can check it out at the library when preparing the study guide.

Mr. Curiel is hands down one of the best professors. He is down to earth, clear, informative, and really knows his subject. He often starts his class with asking the class whether there is any social problems or thing going on in the world that we'd like to discuss, which I personally enjoyed. Great professor. He can come off as very strict however, if you come to class on time and participate you will be just fine. He provides all the notes and the are a great resource to study from. Also be sure to read the textbook. His quizzes are tough only due to the wording. He teaches at a college level so it would help if you take English 100.

He's a great teacher. He knows what he's teaching and has a clear grading criteria, but make sure to read the book and participate. Isn't an easy A and it's a good idea to study. He gives a general study guide that tells you whats on the test. He explains thoroughly and is very knowledgeable about the subject.

Prof. Curiel is my favorite professor I've had so far! He is extremely knowledgeable about not only sociology, but has taught many other classes and knows a lot of basic stuff. He's very caring and definitely wants to see you pass/succeed in life. There is only one hw assignment, but however the quizzes exams are difficult. Would take again!

I absolutely loved this class. The test and vocabulary quizzes are extremely difficult, making this is a class that requires long hours of studying . I enjoyed all the information the professor puts on the handouts and his amazing lectures. Between him and the students, I have never laughed so hard. I recommend taking this class.

Prof. Curiel legitimately cares about his students. He is found very approachable, and adamant about supporting his students as they tackle college. He seems like he would be better taken in the Fall/Spring semesters however, because his course is rather intensely accelerated during the summer session. (This was my first college class too.)

His quizzes are extremely hard because he writes the questions at the college level. Study your ass off for your quiz and I recommend UNDERSTANDING the terms, not so much as memorizing. I took this summer 2020 as an online class due to covid but it was honestly a very easy class as long as you do the 4 discussions, take the quizzes, and do ok on the final. Everything is either based off the textbook or the lecture notes he gives, so it was not that demanding. I liked how the discussions were relevant to current times.

Professor Curiel is an excellent choice. He's great if you don't have a lot of free-time and are okay with setting time aside for his class. Really easy teacher overall if you CONSISTENTLY study! He has frequent quizzes and exams like almost every week, but it's all just terms so just be ready to mostly memorize material frequently. His lectures repeat the vocab list given online so it does get a little boring, but he's really engaging and still manages to make lectures interesting.

He was super interactive with the class, and his lectures weren't boring, but he was just reviewing vocabulary. His exams and quizzes are exactly like the study guide although the vocabulary isn't the exact definition, you have to actually understand the terms because just memorizing them won't help as much, especially since the quizzes were timed.

He cares that you pass and tries to use humor in lecture which makes it engaging. My opinion is to do not go to class late . Don't walk pass him. We only have one homework assignment which is an essay. We have 4 Exams and 4 Quizzes (Just make sure you go over the study guide). Overall he's a fun teacher

He WOULD call you out if your'e on your phone, but he was fairly a good professor and explains the subject well. He doesn't go off topic and managed to keep your attention. The only credits you're able to receive is from quizzes, class actives, and exams. The class activities are all random and can't be made up. His study guide was clear.

Professor Curiel bases his grades mainly off his tests, but he posts study guides for them a week in advance which is very helpful. You do need to study for them but, you can find notes on Quizlet through a guy called Marxcos_. Even though he tells you when there are quizzes he doesn't tell you when there are in class activities but, they are easy.

You only have one homework assignment the whole semester. His class is mostly based off quizzes and exams. He gives the study guide a week in advance so plenty of time for you to study and make sure you study ahead of time since the wording on quizzes/exams is different from the study guide. He would crack funny jokes and I would take him again.

The class was very informative, and I learned a lot from it. There is plenty of reading to do via e-textbook. There are few assignments, only one a week or so, plus the weekly reading. Clear criteria and the class requires the work to be completed on time. It was a great class; I would retake this professor.

I really enjoyed this course. It wasn't stressful nor saturated with busy work. Because of this, I was able to enjoy my personal life and the information within our textbook. I enjoyed how Prof Curiel sometimes cracks a few jokes which makes his lectures very interesting to listen to. His quizzes and exams are not hard since he gives you a list of everything you need to know beforehand. He does not like people passing in front of him during lectures which is understandable.

Good class, quite easy. To pass: study every study guide; it is just vocab. Be awake and attentive and be on time to class. He seems to really care about his students passing the class.

Very interesting lectures. You're mostly graded off of quizzes and tests which are all very clear. The quizzes and tests match the study guides very well. There are 4 in-class assignments which are super easy; you just have to be there to get credit

I took this class online for Summer 2025 and I have taken this professor for another sociology class in person. I really prefer his online classes because he puts together notes on each chapter and along with the book that will be on quizzes and test. He has one discussion board per week, but nothing overwhelming. I loved his online class.

I got my first B in this class because I underestimated the exams. The quizzes were easy for me, but the exams actually required a good amount of studying. I took this class expecting an easy A, but I couldn't achieve that because I had many science classes. I've heard others have a similar experience. He's a great teacher, but just be aware!

I had Professor Curiel for Sociology 102C, and he was an excellent and knowledgeable professor. He's straightforward, professional, and always quick to respond to messages. His lectures are clear and engaging, but his quizzes and exams or on the tough side but if you are focused it will be an easy A. GRADING 4 discussions 4 quizzes and 4 tests

Really good Professor! Currently taking his class and tests/quizzes are very straightforward, he also provides good study guides. I have an A right now and it seems very manageable to keep it.Very funny and makes lectures seem short. Just go to class and everything should be fine!

He's hands down the best professor I've EVER had. His grading and syllabus are incredibly clear. He's very straightforward about everything, not just grading, but during lecture as well. He makes every class engaging, immersive, and interesting. I feel like I'm watching a yt video essay, it's so good. He's hilarious, and very respectful of opinions

He is a great teacher; he managed to help me understand every concept in sociology, and he also sparked a deep interest in the subject for me. I would definitely take another class with him. The best professor.

First day, you have written hw. Only time you ever have hw. 4 Quizzes that are word match, 4 class activities, basically credit for being in class. 4 exam, the 4th is the final. I actually enjoyed the class and learn a lot, despite my C-. USE THE STUDY GUIDES they are useful, just different wording.
