Gives lost of examples and study guides of the things you NEED to know. Always in a good mood, very helpfull, and gives out candy.
He is an okay teacher. You do however need to show detailed steps. If you know calculus very well and know short-cuts, do not do them show every step. Remember every day he does give 2 points extra credit, this adds up fast.
Nice guy. Made the material clear enough to grasp. Good teacher.
Wonderful teacher - breaks everything down into easy manageable steps. Tests are very straightforward - exactly what he went over in class. I highly recommend him.
he knows his material but cannot convey it in a clear manner. He is too busy telling jokes then to pay attention to the students needs.
Not impressed with his teaching methods, tends to be fool of himself. Doesn't do a good job of explaining problems. Doesn't take the time to see if anyone is understanding the info. More than half the class is failing, ME included and I'm a straight A-Student! I guess you win some and you lose some.
The subject matter is so simple it makes the course hard.
Has a good method in the classroom.. example- he uses helpful worksheets and gives pretty clear procedures as to how to work the problem, but if you don't get it he's stiff if approached with any questions after class or during office hours.
good teacher, some good jokes
i like mr. dorn, but he is a little awkward when asked questions. he is a joker, but i wouldn't say it detracts from the class.
He teaches too fast. He doesn't take the time to explain clearley. I'm on the second step & he is on the 6th step. He tends to sing as he graphs.(wheeeee). Do the homework on time and take time to understand the material and you should be fine.
Ha! He is defintley the easiest math teacher at city. His review sheets are exactly like his tests. Also, if you truly want to learn something do not take him he just doesn't go that in depth and you will simply forget everything. But he is a nice guy and gave me many candy bars.
Good teacher, very willing to help his students. Easy to get into see him at his office. Tests are directly taken from the study guides. Gives extra credit. Get's his students through the classes they need without making it too painful. Highly recommended, especially for statistics.

high school junior when took class in summer...very easy tests and homework is straightforward. Jokes a lot (and sometimes gets off subject way too often), but his tests are fair and you get the material eventually. Fell asleep sometimes but did not miss much (just do the hw and you're fine).
Took over summer school, probably the easist class ever. It was so easy that it made it hard to go. His tests are very simple, exactly what we go over. He gets off subject alot, but oh well. Natural at his jokes. I recommend him!
his jokes are lame but if you pay attention he's a great teacher
Mr. Dorn is a great teacher. Be prepared to study your notes, pay attention, and attend office hours if you need to, and you'll do great. He's very willing to help with any questions you may have.
he is a great teacher
Mr. Dorn is very funny his joke is lame but it keepz me up in the evening class..he always tell us none of his ex student ever sayz HI to him...its not that they didnt..its because he have a bad hearing...i creamed out his name when i saw him walking..that man didnt turn his head abit...gosh...how embarrassing..everyone was looking
He makes lots of jokes, some fun at times.... Pay attention in class because when the test come...YOU WILL NOT GET FULL CREDIT if you for get a step or forget to round, little stuff like that, he will mark it all wrong!!!! His student aid sucks!!!!! She can't teach.....He is a good teacher but you have to do your work...to do well in his class
Great, Fun, Jokes around a lot. Easy class if you pay attention. Tests are similar to notes and lectures. Not difficult. Final is a breeze, very easy. But you still need the formula and notes to prepare for it though. I highly recommend him. He doesn't go in dept but he doesn't have to. You will forget it anyways, well most of you.
He teaches a fun class. The only kids that don't do well are the ones who don't do the homework and don't speak up when they need help. Do the work, pay attention, and don't be shy and it will all be very easy. Oh and don't take him to serious, he likes to pick on some students and if he picks you he won't let off but it's all jokes.
it is all about the dorn method!~~~~~ just listen and do what he tells you to do...you will be set...
Test are easy. Study the study guide and you'll get 90-100% on your test. He has more passion for his jokes than teaching math. Basically he lost all passion for teaching. If you want an easy A, take Dorn and learn the so called "Dorn Method".
The final is very easy, but the rest of the test are a medium level of difficulty. He does not give any partial credit. He falls behind his schedulr. He jokes a lot in the class sometimes its funny and sometimes u think the class is a waste of time. He has a few favorites in the class. u have homework and each section is worth 2 points. It helps.
he needs to retire. he's too old to teach. tests are extremely easy. but usually he doesnt even know what he teaches. nothing to learn from him seriously. one of the worst math teacher i've ever had.
the class was easy for me cause I already took harder math classes, Dorn watches way too much TV! his favorite movie is Legally Blond, he likes to tell jokes all though only some of them are funny. pretty nice guy, and if you get 100% on a test he will give you a snickers bar, and its not a mini, its a full sized one.
he's a likable person but a horrible teacher, not recommended
Attention all students: L. Dorn seems to play favorites when it comes to his students. If you're not the strongest student when it comes to math (statistics), your going to feel really left out. I battled with him for the entire semester, prior to my transfer to STATE. I got a B, but it was really tough, he actually told me that I deserved a C.
Great teacher. He jokes a lot. He often makes up stories for a laugh (he claims he was in the NBA, and participated in the world's strongest man comptetition). He does play favorites. He hands out study guides that has EXACTLY what the test is on, it makes it very easy. Definitely recommended.
Dorn is an awesome teacher. Funny guy who jokes about him being in the NBA before. Goes off tangent a lot. But he's very clear in his teaching. Gives you a study guide that is exactly like the test, and holds study sessions for the study guide a day before the test. If you want an easy time with 5b, take Dorn.
He is the best!! He's soo funny and he's all into his class which makes it really interesting..He cracks jokes and i just love his teaching!
One of the best professors I've had a FCC! He is hillarious, apparently he's been in the CIA, NFL, and the NBA. You'll learn about the "Stealth Dorn Method" as well. Aside from being entertaining, I actually understood the material being presented. I highly recommend Mr. Dorn, not only will you learn a lot, but you'll never be bored! Seriously.
Mr. Dorn is great. I had him for Summer 2007 Math 103 and i loved his jokes. Mr. Ostrander was teaching also and it was just a good class. He passed me with a C & i got a 69% percent in the class. i was suprised! but he's a great teacher!
First of all, he is SO FUNNY! I mean, he kept a 4plus hour class entertained ... and his entertainment, cause me to learn certain math rules that I would never have gotten. Knows alot and seems like a nice guy.
KEEP AWAY IF YOU ARE TAKING STATISTICS!!! Oh My God... He OVERLOADS you with homework and packets, like you are taking only his class that semester... he strays from the book tremendously and you can't understand anything in it because of that. His tests are LAME with hard multiple choice questions that you can't even understand. TRUST ME.
This class was alot of thinking. Mr. Dorn makes you think about what and why you are doing math. You have to study for this class you can't get by without doing the HW but as far as amount of HW its like 3-4 problems per chapter. Overall good class thought I was gonna end up with a C, studied like crazy for final and ended up with an A-.
He was funny and keep the class interesting. Had silly lil gestures and songs to help you remember things.
I took his class... If you are taking Statistics... BAD TEACHER! I was reading some other reviews on here for the people who were rating his stats class and they are so true! He strays from the book and he totally does overload you with homework and packets. He has his own "Dorn Method" that is different from the book and you can't reference the 2.
Easy if you took calculus. Most students in his class already have so he thinks we know it already.
I had Dorn for Math 5B and Math 6. He's a nice guy, and he has a lot of good ideas for explaining things in ways that I've never seen before - and they help too. The problem is in the math, I think he's losing his interest in teaching but enjoys being in class too much to give it up. Not hard if you try, like most classes. Don't expect to coast.
Worst teacher ever!
he has senior moments of blabbering about nonsense for 10 minutes at a time. you can pass the tests if you become familiar with the book. however, the book is rarely ever talked about or utilized in class. the formulas in the book are morphed into dorns version of what it should be. if you study the book you will pass.
Very hard class, vary hard teacher. he works your butt off, with large amounts of homework and bookwork, and big packets of homework every week. Boring lecturer, awkward sense of humor, and a hard homework and test grader. if you're looking for a free ride, don't take Dorn.
(summer school) I don't see why he gets bad reviews. He is very nice, has a goofy sense of humor, and really tries to connect with students. His tests are straight-forward and very fair. He takes time to review before exams and goes over exams after they are graded. Nice guy, good teacher.
overall he is a great teacher. If you are looking for a good teacher take him. But study hard for the test, he grade hard on his test. The test is hard because it not multiple choice and if you miss a one number or round to the wrong number he mark you wrong.. Good luck
(4 wk summer school)Was very helpful, clear in his instruction and tested fairly. If you didn't understand, he'd do everything he could to help clarify things for you. Silly sense of humor but did try to connect with students on their level.
.....
Took him for 5a and 5b. A pretty good teacher overall but tests are not curved and pretty hard if you don't study. Grade is based almost entirely on tests. (hwk is 2 pts) If math is not your subject then this class can be pretty hard. Corky sense of humor. Make sure you know the "Dornian" Method.
I took mr dorn for math 5b and math 6 and i think he is one of the best at FCC...
GREAT TEACHER! He made statistics so fun! he's funny and very understanding. when i didn't have time to finish the final he let me finish in his office and even gave me a snickers bar. If you need to pass stats. take his class!!
Just do the homework and you will get As on the test. He gives extra credit for doing homework problems on the board. He usually gives a chocolate bar to whoever gets 100 or better on the tests and there are usually lots of chocolate bars going around. Not a hard class at all.
Make sure you come to class, listen carefully, you will do well. He gives extra credit and if you get a 100%, he'll give you a candy bar. I was afraid to take a stats class, but he did actually make it fairly easy (not that it wasn't hard) and he is always available if you need extra help. Make sure you know the Dornian Method & do extra credit
hes good
He's so entertaining and funny, when he takes a side step from his comedy act he's not a bad math teacher either. Take notes, keep them, ask for help. He's great. Don't get me wrong Stats is hard stuff, but he's there for you. Highly recomend.
Mr. Dorn is one of the best teachers on campus. He jokes alot in class, to make it interactive seccion. Sometime he can be a jerk and make fun of you if you don't know the answer so be prepared before you enter his class. Test can be a little hard sometimes.
Dorn is a good professor. His class is hard, it's calculus... But he explains how he expects you to do things, and although his tests are rather difficult he does give study guides which are extremely helpful. Also, in his class I never found myself looking at the clock trying to figure out how much more time the class has, he keeps you interested.
Mr. Dorn is a good teacher. Calculus is challenging but he explains things fairly well. He tells stories and jokes a lot so that keeps it interesting. He does call on you a lot so you do want to be prepared.
The class itself isn't an easy one but Dorn does his best to help you understand. He does have a tendency to get off topic with jokes and stories but it breaks up the monotony of all the math. Hardest I've ever worked for a 'B' but it was definitely worth it.
I had Mr. Dorn for math 5A and currently taking him for math 5B. He is a great calculus teacher. If you are concerned about what teacher to choose for calculus, this is your man. He is easy to understand in his lectures, and his study guides help a lot for the tests. He is also pretty funny :)
Most students seem to like him because he's funny but I didn't find him very helpful. During lectures he goes off on ridiculous tangents and we end up not even finishing notes. He doesn't explain things very well at all. We didn't get through the last chapters of the material because we were so far behind. I would NOT reccommend him for Math/Psy 42
Dorn is probably one of the most interesting math professors on campus. I'm currently enrolled in his Psych 42 class and it's not easy but he simplifies his teaching style to a degree where everybody would understand. Come to class everyday, and I mean, EVERYDAY, you'll regret just missing one day. He sort of reminds me of Dustin Hoffman. hahaha
Dorn is very interesting character, who loves Glee and A Idol lol. He's funny and is always willing to explain concepts fully if you don't understand. The exam study guides are extremely helpful for the tests. So do them! If you have to take Math 5b. TAKE THE DORN!
Frustrating class, the teacher was nice, and helpful with individual help, but the class moves very slow and gets very behind. He goes off on things unrelated to class, making it a very long period. You should always go to class, tests are difficult, but he offers some direction during the test. The people who like him are the ones that he favored
A really easy class if you do the homework. I took it during the summer and the homework gets tedious and there is a ton of it, however, it was really helpful during the test. He is funny when he tells his stories and makes the class not as boring. He is a good teacher. If you are an average A student this class will be a piece of cake.
DORN IS ONE OF THE BEST TEACHERS IVE EVER HAD BY FAR. HONESTLY HE'S A TYPICAL DOWN TO EARTH HUMAN BEING..HE'S REALISTIC, IF YOU REALLY TRY IN THIS CLASS U WILL PASS.YES HIS JOKES ARE SUMTIMES CORNY BUT ITS JUST HIS CHARACTER.I TOOK HIM N THE SUMMER AND I WENT FROM A D TO B...SERIOUSLLY HE'S GREAT!
extremely great teacher... recommend him to anyone... It was a hard class... if he wasn't teaching I don't know how I would have past that class with an "A"... An he makes the class fun...
Lecture: full of surprises! want to know more, take him for stat! you won't be disappointed. Homework: as long as you do it, you get full credit. answers don't matter. he'll go over any problems if asked. Tests: you get to use cheat sheet 4 the most part. that doesn't mean you'll ace the tests. Grading: "fair enough". Final comment: awesome prof!
Dorn is a great guy, very funny. But honestly, as a teacher, he's horrible. Moves too fast, and just expects you to know things he doesn't go over. He makes a lot of mistakes & his notes aren't that helpful 70% of the time. His study guides are pretty much the exams, but he doesn't go over them until 10 minutes til your actual test, its frustrating.
really good teacher very helpful. as long as you go to ask questions you dont even have to attend the class to learn the stuff
If you are not a Psych Major, take a different class. Having said that, you will LEARN in this class. He teaches old school style and favors young girls, but def a great teacher IF you want to learn the the entire process of stats and not just find the answer with the calculator.DO THE HOMWORK and go to the board for E.C- you may need it! Got 87%
I took him during Summer '11. His tests were hard and thus homework was pointless 'cause it did not go together. Rambles much and often stray. Although he was funny and kept class interesting.
Dorn is a funny teacher and keeps lecture filled with joke. His approach to teaching is entertaining, his way of explaining the material is easy to understand.does not give partial credit so if you?re wrong you?re wrong And Yes he pulls favorites with extra credit. Due to him individually selecting students he favors
A great instructor with a wonderful personality.
Larrio Dorneras looks like Antonio Banderas--he has us believing. Fun to be around; great instructor.
Great teacher! The best I've ever had...school wise! Funny, entertaining. You will learn a lot and won't mind going to class. Test are easy if you study.
I orignially go to FS and decided to take a summer course of Psych 42/Math 42 and it was the best decision in my life, because this was the most easiest course I have taken! I passed with a 91.4% Dorn is amazing, funny, and encouraging! I wish my FS professors were like him! He made learning so easy and fun at the same time. No complaints.
I took him for Math 103 over the summer. It was 5 days a week, but with him teaching the class, the time passed by really fast. I got an A in his class. All you have to do is do the actual work and everything comes to you pretty easily. Very helpful!
Mr. Dorn, he is really nice but my problem in ths class was he kept calling on me the whole semester which I really hated. HW is online and some times long too. test are not so hard beacuse he provide study gudies. Overall he is ok, go to his office hours he helpes if you have questions. Good Luck If you are taking math 5B with him
Can't say I had too much interest in the class itself because it didn't feel challenging. That aside Dorn is a great teacher and easy to understand, head of the math department now too so that should speak for him. Very funny guy so you're not left feeling bored if you don't like math much. Had 5 tests, I think, with study guides, and a final.
He was nice and really fun. He does poke quite a bit at the same students. Hw isn't worth much. He does give study guides and they're like replicas of the exam. You know different names different numbers, but same steps. Took him in the spring.
I had to take this class for my major during summer semester. This class was intense, but prof. Dorn tried to make it as easy for us as he could. The subject on itself is not easy but Mr. Dorn was very helpful if you had any questions. Be prepared to do the homework to get points (big contribution to your grade) that you get from the textbook.
Mr. Dorn is a great professor, I took him for 5B and 6. He cares about his students and help you a lot. Go to his office hours he answer all the questions that you have. He does give study guide and drop lowest score and replace it will final. Do the hw couple percentage will help.
Took a summer course with him and it was fairly easy. He knows what he's teaching and he'll accept the mistakes he made. He's very young at heart so he'll make a few jokes here and there and he's always there to help the students. Math21 was easy, if you took Trig before, the class will be easier, for me it was.
Mr Dorn is a great teacher explains every thing clearly. Work hard in the class and he is caring teacher. Jokes a lot and makes the class fun." This is where dreams are made of" LOL
I think MATH 5B in general is a load to handle. He's one helluva funny guy and sometimes goes on tangents but he knows what he's talking about. At the end of the day, practice practice practice. I barely passed the class but the dude can really joke.
Mr. Dorn is a great teacher, he does cares about his students. The only recommendation is that if you took 5A at Willow, take 5B at Willow. The biggest struggle for me was not being able to use a calculator on tests. At willow I was able to use a calculator, and it was difficult having to also learn the stuff I used a calculator for in 5A.
I would not recommend this teacher.
He spends large portion of the class talking about subjects other than math. I spent a whole lot of time in the tutorial center. Grades very hard on your format of of your answers on the test. If you forget things like brackets, dx, delta x, or pie he will mark off a point for each of those mistakes.
The best teacher for calculus. Especially if you struggle with the material. He likes to jokes around a bit, but I find this helps getting through the already difficult class. Would take him again, but his math 6 classes did not fit my schedule . Remember: "Everything is awesome! " ;)
Mr. Dorn probably thinks he is funnier than he actually is but he is kind of funny. He cares about his students and takes time to make sure you understand the material through and through. I truly appreciate him as a human being.
Dorn is the BEST math teacher! He helps clarify issues, jokes around in class, and gives extra credit. If you have already taken calc in high school, math 5a with him should be easy. However, math 5b requires more studying.
Mr. Dorn is actually a really great teacher although he expects you to know, and fully understand how to work out the problem rather than take shortcuts, Tests are pretty difficult, although class goes by really fast because he is funny, I would reccomend him for 5A .
Mr Dorn is a really funny and nice guy. He really does want his students to pass but he expects them to do their best as well. Made a four hour class breeze by. I would recommend taking him.
One of the worst math teachers , I don't recommend it at all, he is trying to be funny all the time in the class but he's not, he just wastes time and he doesn't know how to simplify the problems. Even his grades system is so weak like if the overall of the class points are 350, 300 on the tests and 50 points on homework, attendance, quizzes
I received in A in the course but Dorn always kept me on my toes. The homework is extremely time consuming and only worth 2 points a section. He teaches the class very different compared to other instructors making it mandatory to attend lecture! Always ask questions and pay attention! He hands out practice tests that are just like the exams.
How do you make calculus 2 harder ? Take Mr. Dorn. Not only will you get confused but the only way to get an A is to copy down all of his time consuming and might I add useless " steps " . The steps kill me the most and no other math teacher I've had required us to do math their way to the point. He is funny but often goes on long tangents.
i would not recommend this instructor to anyone. do not take him. i ended up with him cause he was the only instructor teaching calc 2.
Dorn is generally good. ETC saved me. You must attend lectures, he interprets the book well. Take advantage of the extra credit. Tests are WAY easier than the homework. Lots of homework but you need the practice. In retrospect, 5B wasn't a difficult class. He jokes too much and gets off topic but at least he's nice. He curves the final grades.
Took the class for the summer. You need the book for the homework and his teaching style is going over examples for every type of problem. He hands out study guides for every chapter which are almost exact to the tests + there's extra credit for doing problems on the board. If you do the homework you'll get at least a B no problem
I previously wrote a bad review criticizing his use of steps but I now I realize the steps help you understand what is actually going on and the steps toned down after the first few chapters anyway. I'm limited in the number of characters I have to describe his character and instruction style so i'll just say that he's a good professor overall.
This teacher may be funny and kinda likeable at first but it doesn't make up for the fact that he sucks at teaching. He is so disorganized and forgetful and doesn't put up the key for the study guide even though he says he will. His teaching style is so confusing, it's ridiculous. ETC's are the only thing that will save you in this class.
Good teacher overall. First math class for my college experience and I must admit. I enjoyed it. You must have a calulator to pass the class or I should say make it easier. I would take another class with this professor very cool!
Grab your Ti-84 calculator and prepare yourself for a semester of hard work, for you won't pass this class without it.
I enjoyed having him as a professor; however I didn't realize how much work there was to be done. Overall, he went out of the book instead of doing assignments online and had everything planned out. As long as one stays on top of the topics and homework, should be fairly easy.
Let's just say at the calculus level, this professor is just too easily distracted to keep the momentum of the lecture running smoothly. So much that it interferes with the schedule and we don't even get to cover entire sections, yet you're still expected to test on it. Unless you're prepared to self teach, do not take this guy for calculus.
When you do the homework do it based off his lectures and take good notes! The book is 100x more difficult if you try to learn off the book. He's funny and sometimes wastes a lot of class time talking about random stuff. There's a test every week! Be prepared and do the homework, it helps a ton!
He's not as bad as some of these ratings. I enjoyed his class! He likes to crack jokes. PROS: He's very clear about grades, gives out study guides, will go over anything right before taking a test, gives retakes and extra credit, etc. CONS: HW is time consuming! (BUT worth it). Also, he will not accept late work. He goes off topic sometimes.
He is not organized and not clear, if u ask a question he might not answer it Tries to be funny, but fails miserably. Just poor organization which makes me unable to organize the steps into solving a problem.
This teacher gets distracted easily, I haven't finished taking the class and I already know he's not a good professor. Focuses more on being funny then actually teaching. The examples he gives on notes are nothing compared to the hw.
I haven't finished taking the class and I already know he's not a good professor. He goes over some concept very slow, while other concepts he goes over very fast. The tests are easy, however, they must be done step by step based, with the steps he wants. I would recommend learning calc 2 on your own and then learn in class how he wants it done.
It's Calculus. Calculus isn't easy, Dorn tries his best to be insightful and interesting. He's got jokes. Super interesting stories on a regular basis, unfortunately the pacing of the class suffers as a result. The class is pretty heavily back loaded so be prepared for a rough last half of the semester. Good Luck!
This guys the worst . He gives you zeros on hw even if you got the answer correct. His tests are utter garbage they make no sense. He tests you on things that weren't on the homework and wants his steps which honesty are a waste of time. If you want to fail, waste time doing h.w that your gonna get zeros on . This class is for you.
Hes a funny teacher, gets off task sometimes, but he goes over the material well. You need to pay attention so you can pass lol. Make sure you study for the test and show work because if you dont, he takes off points. Do all the homework you can and come to class regularly.
Not the best math professor but my favorite for sure. He gives you the resources you need to figure it out on your own, the downside being, you have to figure it out on your own. Attendance isn't mandatory and he's very flexible, if you plan on studying you'll be fine.
At first I hated how he always called on people to come up and show their work or talk but as time went on it helped everyone get a grasp of the material and if someone didn't know it, he'd make sure you did after. He has BIG snickers bars if you have an A he might throw you one. Lots of HW, but also lots of help in math tutor lab. MAKE THE EFFORT.
Amazing professor, very friendly!
He is a horrible mathematics teacher. No lessons on derivation, goes on a tangent every 10 minutes, and makes us students feel bored and uncomfortable.
Prof is chronically disorganized, distracted, and has poor time management. Frequently on detours that make focus and understanding very difficult. Over explains the basics, barely covers new material. Students are frustrated and frequently underpreared for HW and exams. AVOID, or expect tutors to teach you 90% of the relevant material.
Mr Dorn is an underrated professor. While sometimes he may get distracted in class, he has a really good sense of humor which helps a lot to remember stuff. He truly cares about students learning and has a passion for teaching. Any math 5B class is going to be difficult but Dorn makes class a lot of fun and is very accessible for extra help! 5/5
Mr Dorn is not the usual professor you expect. He can talk too much at times, but he has a great sense of humor which can start your morning right, sometimes. He cares about the students and understands the students. He is lenient on the HW and his tests are straight-forward, easier than the study guides. Get those two done and the class is easy.
Most of the time he was just telling jokes and stories throughout class. Very unorganized and gets frustrated when students don't understand the topic. We skipped a whole chapter due to falling behind. Not very helpful, but funny. He does call you up to the board a lot for participation points.
This semester's class moved online mid-semester due to COVID-19, but he was still just as good online as he was in person. Exams in class are just like the handouts. Online, his tests were just like the quizzes and homework.
Was a great professor in-person, but online is not his forte. 2 1/2 hour mandatory lectures go by so slowly & they are all jokes and examples(half of the answers are wrong). On the plus side, he's a clear grader & does not give too much homework, so leave your zoom on and study on your own.
He is a good professor, He rounds the grades. If you do the homework understand it you will be fine. The exams are just like the homework and quizzes. Ask question if you are lost he will answer them. Show up to class he stopped posting the videos online after a while.
Math is the one subject that I can do so terribly in and I have probably failed a LOT of math classes, but I ended this class with a B because this professor gave us so many chances. He also explained the material very well especially since stats can be a tough concept. He dedicates time into his students and wants to make sure they comprehend.
He can be funny and make good jokes, but to be honest that's about it. He constantly makes mistakes during class and spends minutes trying to figure out what he did wrong. When he doesn't make mistakes, he actually teachers really well, but the hw is god awful good luck.
If you actually read the book, you're a step ahead of the class. He hands out helpful worksheets that assist you in thinking through the statistical questions. He breaks down the material in an easy to understand format. The homework is all done through Pearson. If you really want, you can go ahead and do next weeks homework early on. He's great.
He cares about each student passing:)
He would go through example problems and got the answer incorrect half of the time. We were behind other math classes, and his lectures were difficult to understand. He told us that the person with the highest grade on the test would get curved to 100%. Out of five exams, he only did it with two. Confusing grading. Don't take for your own sanity.
I wouldn't take him. He often made mistakes when doing examples which just made me more confused. I also emailed him twice at the start of the semester and he never responded. Homework is done on a garbage site. He is nice though when you talk with him and he gives hints during exams which are multiple choice.
Don't listen to these jackalopes. Professor Dorn is the real deal. He's a character and will not give you any trouble unless you deserve it. I came to enjoy statistics after I took his class. Enough said.
Dorn is a great professor who tells stories and jokes in order to make stas not as boring. You will need a graphing calculator and most of the work he actually teaches you the formulas instead of solely relying on the calculator. He goes over homework and does call on people during class. He is a great teacher that you can always go to for help.
Don't recommend. He can be confusing and lectures are boring. He tries to joke around and tells stories to lighten the mood which I appreciate at 8am. Class is really hard either way. He gives extra credit for participation even if you get something wrong so go to class in the first few weeks for that. Exams just like the practice ones.
Professor Dorn is a great teacher. The class material is just hard. He makes class enjoyable by telling stories in between topics sometimes. He helps on tests, which makes it at least 50% easier. The homework load is reasonable, as long as you don't wait until the last second. Make acquaintances in this class, it really helps a lot with the work.
Professor Dorn is an amazing teacher!!! He constantly wants you to participate in class, while he does happen to make mistakes like every human he makes sure to explain where he wrong to prevent his students from doing the same mistake. He is funny, caring, and devoted to his craft. Highly Recommend
Mr. Dorn was a great professor. He is a great lecturer and goes over important concepts effectively. His sense of humor definitely lightened the room at times. Calculus is a very difficult subject, but as long as you follow his lectures, stay on time with the homework and do the problems in his study guides, you should be able to pass his class.
Professor Dorn is one of the best professors. His use of color was amazing, and I was able to take helpful and well-organized notes. He was often accessible outside of class and truly wants his students to succeed. He believed in me during a tough time, and I came out better in the end, so I'm very grateful.
Professor Dorn has a unique teaching style - he mixes in humor and stories, which can be hit or miss. The class material is challenging, but following his lectures and using resources like unstuck study can help you succeed. Overall, an average experience.
