One of the best teachers I've ever had. He is the man.

Great teacher and he was a very down to Earth. Easy going, hard tests but fair, and generally a great instructor. His personality really shows when students ask him questions and all the students tended to really like him.

One cool dude with lots of stories. Who would've though algebra could be so interesting? Thought I would get an easy A, but had to try pretty hard for a B - pay attention in class and do the homework. Still learned a lot and had lots o fun.

Super awesome teacher. Funny funny guy. Big on math applications, which is great. Not the easiest, but nothing ridiculous... Take him if you can.

Funny, intersting guy. Hard tests but what do you expect, it's Calc 2. Cares if his tests are fair, dropped a question on a test I thought he didn't cover. Doesn't care if you come to his office during his designated office hours. Just genuinely loves to help students, cares whether they understand the material. Goes out of his way to help you.

Foster was really funny and the class flew. He has great stories and application problems based on stories. If you put the effort in he'll help you the whole way... I didn't and ended up with a C. Great guy/ teacher, just be prepared because his tests are difficult.

Oh man, I love this guy. I think he's my favorite professor so far--and I hate math. Tests and quizzes are a little hard, and the textbook is not great either, but his lectures are awesome, and he works really hard to help students understand the material. Very good about answering questions. If you have to take math, TAKE THIS PROFESSOR.

Went to UAA 3 years, favorite teacher by far. Hilarious, makes calc doable.

Dr. Foster is totally awesome. He goes really fast so if you take his class be prepared to work hard to keep up. If you find him in his office though, he is extremely helpful and always tells you some neat stories.

The best professor I have ever had. Contnued to help me with other classes after calc 2. Frighteningly intelligent, maybe too smart for his own good. However, he can still explain complex problems to an idiot like me and make me understand.

Very student oriented. Lectures are fast paced and exciting. If you are willing to ask questions he is more than willing to help. He actually cares about the students and their preformance in the class. One of the best professors I have ever had!

Actually one of the best Math teachers ive ever had. This university doesnt have math for engineers, which means a lot of the stuff we are taught is useless to us, but this teacher is/was an engineer, so emphasizes practical uses more than others.If your an engineering Major, TAKE HIS CLASS. If a math major, you might be more suited to Narang.

As a secondary student, Prof. Foster made my transition to the college classes much easier than I had thought it would be. I absolutely loved him as a teacher, even though I had to study hard to get the B. As long as you do the homework you should be okay. -One thing is that instead of a pointer, he tends to throw chalk at the blackboard instead.:)

I had to take this class for teaching cert and it was a lot of fun even I struggled at some parts. Tests and quizzes are hard but you can use some notes, HW helps understanding. Goes out of way to help people, really funny and frighteningly intelligent. Take him as much as you can for maths--he is the one.

The class is difficult, but he really tries to help you understand and pass. He's funny and that helps because math is dry anyway. If you need that class, definetly take it with him.

He is the best teacher. If you can take him for anything do so. He loves to teach, makes it fun and interesting, and you will learn. Lets you have a note card for all tests. Very nice!

He is the most encouraging teacher I have ever had in regard to asking questions. He came up to me several times after class and told me to keep it up with the questions. Very nice, smart and very funny. Dr. Foster is THE MAN!!!

Extremely encouraging. He gets you interested in statistics. He is extremely helpful and open to questions. I highly recommend.

He gos out of his way to make himself available to help you. Hes more then willing to explain things to you over and over. Patient and encouraging, and a fair grader.

Show up each day, ask plenty of questions and do the homework. He allows note-cards on tests, so formulas don't have to be memorized. Excellent professor. He sincerely loves what he does and he relates the subject to real life. Great guy!

Awesome professor! He is extremely helpful and even set up a booth late at night during finals week for students to come up and ask questions before the test! He is, in my opinion, one of the best quality teachers at UAA. Oh and the tests are usually almost exactly like his study guides and you get notecards for every test.

Dr. Foster is the best professor I have ever had. He lightens the mood with his humor and is very willing to help. I have never seen him lose his temper and he is very kind to every student.He allows a note card for exams and reviews with the class before each exam. GREAT TEACHER!

One of the best math teachers I've ever had! Tells lots of stories and is just funny! Homework is a must, and the tests are KILLER! I struggled because I missed some classes. The first test is the hardest, but he really is a fair grader. Take him if you have the chance!

Very helpful and fun teacher! Goes fast but you get used to it. Donates his time outside of class. Expect to laugh while you learn in his class.

GREAT PROFESSOR! I have always been absolutely terrible at math and in the past have felt below average. Dr. Foster is amazing. He is EXTREMELY invested in the success of his students and if you take the time to learn, he will take the time to teach you. He goes a bit fast but will stay late in the math lab if you need extra help. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Larry is one of my favorite professors. He is very intelligent, receiving multiple degrees in math and engineering. If you are an engineering student at UAA, don't puss out and take linear algebra. Take MATH 423 you don't want to pass up being able to use a resource like Dr. Foster. I only wish he was in the engineering school instead of the math.

He is a great teacher. He will take the time to make sure you understand. Should try to get this teacher for any class if you can.

Take Dr. Foster for Stats! I was so nervous about understanding this math, yet he made it so interesting and so do-able that I ended up getting an A. All you have to do is apply yourself. Come to every lecture, do the homework (it's about 16% of your grade) if u don't miss a test, the final isn't cumulative. And he encourages and helps his student

I totally agree with the person who said "don't puss out and take linear" - if you are an engineering major. Seriously if you care about engineering and you want to understand things, take this course please. Not to say that linear in unimportant as that is not the case, but you should consider this instead of the "easy path." It's worth it.

Professor Foster is AWESOME!!!!! This is a difficult class, at least after the first week of review, but he takes the time to explain each step because he really wants you to understand the process, if you try on the tests you can get partial credit, even if the answer is incorrect. He is also hilarious!!!! Really makes the class fun :)

Great teacher

If you ever have the opportunity to take one of Dr. Foster's classes I highly recommend it. He makes class fun and makes everything applicable to your specific major. I love that he's not out to get his students like some math professors and actually wants you to learn the material and do well. Only down side is there is A LOT of homework.

Best professor for undergraduate mathematics. He marches to his own beat but he is really funny! Very clear and really wants his students to succeed, more than any other teacher I have had. If you can't get in go talk to him and he will do his best, thats how i got in (fills up quick!) Im done with CALC202 but has inspired me to further my math

Prof Foster is very helpful and knows exactly what he's doing. Grades very fair and curves if it only help you get a better grade. I highly recommend him for all calculus courses. Do the homework because it can help you whole letter grade.

Great Professor!!! I became to love Math after his class. Tests are very fair. Feels like he can teach math even monkey :)

This guy is way overqualified for his position. He has a great sense of humor and you can tell he cares about his students. The focus in his classes is on comprehended the material, and a sheet of notes were allowed on tests in his Calc 2 class. He will take his time explaining things to you after class, etc. I can't recommend him enough.

I can't recommend Dr Foster enough. He's one of the best instructors I've ever had. He really knows his stuff, and he encourages his students to ask him questions anytime.

ODE is radically different from calculus, otherwise Foster is the best math professor currently. Funny, wants to give you full credit on tests, and makes you laugh in an otherwise boring coursework.

Best professor at UAA is true! I never knew Calculus could be soo fun and a tad bit interesting! His practice tests were very similar to his actual tests, and if you feel like you're doing bad on a test, you can leave and instead take a cumulative final which is very similar to his tests!

Foster is SO funny!! He goes really quickly, so be sure to read the textbook and do the homework! Also, if he asks you for a number, never say 0 - chances are you'll destroy the universe. His tests are kinda hard, but he lets you use a page of notes and sometimes he gives extra credit. Foster's awesome, I would definitely recommend him!!

Foster is absolutely awesome. Never have I had so much in a math class. His personality and style of teaching always kept me engaged in what he had to say. He gets the concepts across very clearly and encourages students to partake in lectures by answering questions. He keeps the mood light while jamming you full for information. Highly recommend.

LOVE LOVE LOVE him! My absolute favorite teacher at UAA. He makes class fun and exciting, but doesn't stray from the subject. I would take him for every class if I could. HE doesn't put anything you wouldn't expect to be on a test, and all of his tests are very similar to the practice exams he probives for you.

Best math professor I've ever had. Fair grader & excellent teacher.

Sample exams given with slight variations made to actual exam. Sensed that he really wanted his students to "get it." I especially enjoyed the stories about eccentric mathematicians in history. Unfortunately, I had to withdraw during the final month but it was through no fault of the teaching style or course work.

Dr. Foster sets his students up to succeed, which is more than can be said for most professors at UAA. The material is tough, but Foster makes himself available basically 247 and is dedicated to making sure students understand. His grading isn't too tough, as long as you at least make an attempt. Overall, wonderful, wonderful class! :)

Amazing teacher and amazing person! The best professor I meet in my life. If you have to take math take it with him you won't regret. Took algebra, calc III, and diff. eq with him the best math teacher ever! He is excellent lecturer, if you prepare with sample exam and do enough of hm youll get A. Btw he also can give you a very valuable advise

BEST math professor I have ever had. I absolutely hate math but Larry Foster made it very enjoyable and fun! He is also very hilarious, makes frequent jokes and likes to kick the board for emphasis.

All of the other comments are pretty much spot on. He's great! I HIGHLY recommend taking any class with him. He goes out of his way to review material for exams. I passed this class because of his review sessions. Also, DO THE HOMEWORK and you will pass.

Dr. Foster was really awesome. He tries his best to make us undestand. He does not want students to be failed. Thus, he puts his extra time on opening review days prior to each exam. I enjoyed his class a lot!

I now wish I would have taken all my math courses from professor Foster. If you will... picture the tasmanian devil, your semi-mad hick uncle and a genius NASA rocket scientist... This is Professor Foster. Amazing professor! Would recommend him to anybody/everybody.

Best math professor I've ever had. Do the homework, pay attention to the point of each lecture, and you will pass. The exams are very simple if you do the assigned problems. Attempting to do most of the homework will get you full points. He's actually very helpful when you ask for help. Not an easy class if you slack off though.

He really likes to emphasize the usefulness of the material being taught. He was an engineer most of his life who studied and worked in multiple disciplines (Mechanical, Electrical, etc...) So he makes a point of connecting the material to something that matters, he guides the math majors as well. Plus he's funny. Will take again!

Professor Foster has a great way of explaining hard math concepts. This is my second time taking Calculus (1st time with a different professor) and finally passed. Calculus does NOT come natural to me but Professor Foster helped me through it. Very very test-heavy (85% of final grade is from tests).

Foster is awesome. Always makes class fun and entertaining, as much as you can with math. The class was structured with 7 exams, one every other week which made it very nice of you stay on top of your homework because exams were only over a chapter at a time. Fair grader and offers plenty of extra credit.

Great professor, DEFINITELY take. He doesn't try to trick you when it comes to tests, his philosophy is that he doesn't need to ask you a super tricky and confusing problem to know if you understand the material. Asks fair test questions (about 10 per exam). He makes homework due, so if you take his class try to keep up with the homework.

I had Dr Foster 10 years ago. I am now a mid career engineer and I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for him. He is the best college professor I've ever had.

Professor foster is a wonderful person who inspires students to do their best. He's a kind of professor who enjoys finding diamonds in the rough. He's impacted me to become a wonderful student!

I would definitely take him again for every single math class if I could. He has a good sense of humor when doing math which is hard to do. If you don't understand something he will explain it in a different way so you will. Homework load is not too much.

Larry is a great professor. Really wants his students to succeed and cares. Made the material as simple as possible and did review sessions before every exam which really helped. Get a page front and back of notes for exams but no calculator. He's a little all over the place sometimes but overall a great choice for a class as difficult as Calc.

Foster is the best math professor I have ever had. Makes math fun and is super enthusiastic saying things like "I love my job" or deriving things in terms of "d(grandma)." Keeps us entertained, but simplifies the material to the best of his ability. Sometimes talks super fast so be prepared to take notes but overall would recommend

One of the best professors Ive ever had. Not my favorite subject, but the best it could have ever been because of prof. Foster. Wish they were all like him.

He is a very good math professor. Best I have had other than Tom Harman of course, but other than him Larry is really good. Don't divide by 0, you'll end the universe!!

Calculus isn't my best subject, but Foster made it all possible, he is hilarious and provided pre-test learning sessions, plus allows a page of notes for each test. He is available a lot for questions which was really helpful.

Go to class, take notes, watch his lectures online and ask questions in class. If you don't understand, meet him during his office hours and he will help you! He's gone to school for Math, Civil Eng, and Mech Eng so he relates a lot of what you learn in class to what you'll be doing in real life.

Professor Foster has been the most hilarious professor I've had so far. He made Calculus enjoyable and easier to understand. He was more concerned with making sure we knew how to apply the formulas and where to put everything (copy and paste method) instead of simplifying the answer. Super nice and willing to help you when needed.

Really fun and energetic for the course, The class was more fast paced-which I dont feel suits calc2 but if your confident go for it. Really cool to get a history lesson with some of the math material, it also helps that foster knows how math is applied outside of math.

Take a course from this professor especially if you are an engineering major!!!!

GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS. The homework assignments are not bad when done with friends, but make sure you truly understand the problems. If you don't talk to him one on one in his office. That is the key to his tests. If you make sure to understand everything he tells you you will get an A.

A dad a never had. I can discuss politics and Fourier transform in the same paragraph with him.

Professor Foster is the patron saint of engineering students trying to make their way up the ladder through the math department. He is the only professor you should take a math class from. He is one of those rare professors that really does want to help you succeed.
