He sucks, talks so fast, can't understand him. Stay away!

one of the worst profs ever! no structure to his class
unfair final
boring teacher but very easy exams
fair assignments and exams
lectures not boring, but have no relevance to course material. always going off on tangents. easy course!
What a horrible teacher, switch out while you can.
He stands there in the corner blabbering for two hours about absolutely nothing...not to mention that he jumps from chapter to chapter confusing the hell out of us...drop while you can

i feel bad because he seems like a nicer person, he just should not be permitted to teach. anywhere. take accounting with karen, she supposedly spoonfeeds everything. goldsman assumes you know everything and so he doesn't bother teaching it.
Let me tell you he is not a nice guy. Meeting him in his office etc, I have learned he loves to have power over students and is incredibly rude
DON'T TAKE HIM! YOU CAN AVOID HIM! his lectures are completely useless and his exams are hard. he can be the biggest **** alot of the time too! HIS CLASS AVERAGE IS ALWAYS THE LOWEST OUT OF ALL THE SECTIONS!!!
He's pretty serious. No nonsense type of prof. Listen and you'll get lots out of the course.
Tough course, but Goldsman makes it worthwhile. If you have questions, he's always in his office.
Thought he was more than OK. Emailed him with questions on weekends and he replies on weekends. He prepared us weel for the final
Merci, il est bilingue
Perhaps McGill's BEST Professor!!! Demanding, exacting, but very clear and organized. Goes out of his way to help! If only all Professors were like Prof. Goldsman...!!!
He is a very cool teacher, extremely helpful. Has an awesome sense of humor and really makes accounting intersting. Anyone who doesn't enjoy his teaching doesn't enjoy accounting or doesn't want to put in any effort into his classes.
hated him hated him hated him. very unclear, unhelpful, awful
LOVED HIM! LOVED HIM! LOVED HIM!
Great great teacher. Honestly, he knows his stuff. Listen in class...and study your course notes. He's great!!
knows his stuff.... et il parle francais!!!!
Funny and knowledgeable
THE BEST IN MCGILL
Cool guy. He gives funny and relevant examples in class. I really enjoyed him. Watch our for the exams though.....read his notes, NOT THE BOOK.
Really good teacher. One of the best I ever had! Really clear!
He is okay... He is a hard marker tho but he knows what he is talking about. The course is very heavy....alot of material to cover.
Very helpful & clear. His tests are extremely fair - no surprises, and fair marking. If you do the practice problems, you'll ace the course.
this guy is awesome, among the best profs management has to offer. there for his students, never hesitates to help...overall a great guy!
Very clear in his lectures, responds really fast to emails and makes tax less boring than it is. Great teacher but DO NOT READ THE BOOK, read the course pack.
I took this class hoping that I will get a deeper understanding of tax law in Canada... what came out was me hating taxation even more... at least he answers emails that, I give him that.
He makes funny jokes and talks a lot. He goes through exercises in class but reading is still really important if you really want to understand what he's talking about.
His lectures go off on so many tangents, and are not applicable to the content. Very confusing. Avoid him.
I took this class... and I still think that Taxation is some sort of fancy food I cannot decipher how to eat. Too much for me...
I thought the same thing as these raters before I took him. Tax isn't an easy subject, but he gives you all the tools and help you'll ever need to succeed in accounting. Take it from someone who hates almost every other accounting prof in the school.
He Is a great teaching with a hard subject. He does a great job
Best teacher I've had at McGill. Funny and nice and always there to help. Makes tax seem simple. Exams are very fair.
best teacher!!!He is always available for students..very helpful!!!
Best teacher I had to date at McGill. Helpful, clear and makes the class very interesting.
I wished all my accounting profs were like Goldsman. Great lecture note package.
People seem to like Goldsman in other classes, however, be certain that if you take Goldsman for Intro to Financial Accounting when you've never been exposed to it, it is highly likely that you'll fail. Maybe I'll change my mind when i take Taxes..
Toygh but great course. prof. Goldsman is great at getting the material across. Lecture note package rates an A.
Onr of the best I've had. Interesting classes and really gook lecture notes. MUST keep up with the readings.
Prof. knows how to keep it interesting and helpful. Great lecture note package. You have to keep up to date!!!!
Enjoyed the course - Goldsman's lecture notes are great. Great office hours and helpful prof.
This class is DAMN hard, one of the hardest I've taken at McGill -- soooo much info. BUT Goldsman is one of the best profs I've had in my life! Exams are difficult but couldn't be more fair! He's hilarious, and makes an otherwise incredibly boring subject quite tolerable, and dare I say even *enjoyable* at times.
Really interesting ... even if you don't like accounting
BEWARE!Interesting lectures, pretty useful info, explains well. But the final exam killed all the enthusiasm, threw at us some really ambiguous stuff he never taught.Avoid at all costs if u hold your GPA close to your heart...
He teaches both tax classes for the accounting major. He explains very well what's going on. He knows his stuff. You end up wanting to work in taxation after his classes.
Prof. Goldsman's lecture notes are extremely helpful they are a must. Real interesting class with a touch of humour. He's always available for questions whether in his office or by way of email.
Very informative class. Goldsman is the Tax man. Makes this difficult subject quite interesting. Get his tax notes. Helpful in and out of class. But you gotta work for your mark.
Goldsman is an effective e-mail answerer: he would be a great secretary. Classes are very dry, useful if you want to work for H & R Block. Big mistake.....
Solid prof. Knows his stuff inside out. Always willing to answer questions outside of class. He has plenty to cover, which is not his fault. Coursepack is a 100% must and go to class, its the little things he talks about in class that pop up on the exams.
Above average prof. Plenty of office hours. The Tax 1 course is loaded with material. 2 midterms, final and 3 assignments. Lots of reading and details in tax laws. Know CCA methods and calculations.
Very knowledgable professor, but the material is dense and the exams are quite hard but reasonable at the same time. Focus on the practice tests and homeworks. It is not humanly possible to know everything you read in the book, but he will only ask the basics...don't panic.
Very knowledgeable and capable of making the subject interesting. I was disappointed as the course progressed that each class became shorter and the material was covered at an increasingly fast pace. Also, he was in a great hurry to leave at the end of each class. Exams were difficult and he is a hard marker. Know your textbook!
For a tough course, prof. Goldsman does a great job at keeping your interest. His notes are extremely helpful. He's easily available in his office.
One of the better profs.. great course
Goldsman is your go to guy for Tax 1. The coursepack is really useful so make sure you buy it. Loads of material to memorize as well as 2 midterms, 3 assignments and final. Pretty much do all the practice exams that he gives you, useful for exam prep. Clear in class and answers students questions well. One of the better accounting professors!
He is the best prof. i have ever had in accounting courses and the only one who knows what he is talking about. lectures are extremely important, and try to write his examples in the class.he really knows what he is talking about.
Second time around with Professor G. The class is a bit more chill than the first one as only 1 midterm, 2 assignments and a final. We finished class two weeks before the term ended (which was pretty sweet). Once again, great prof as he is always well prepared, answers questions thoroughly and is available to help you in his office. Take him!
Great prof, really interested in helping students understand the material. Textbook is useful for examples and practice questions, but his coursepack is really great for studying - has all the material you'll need for the final/midterms. Overall great prof, definitely one of the best I've had a McGill.
loves what he teaches, funny helpful etc. A lot of memorization in tax 1 but u definitely know what to expect for the midterms. The final can be a tad harder because the class average is usually high. 3 assignments: fair and doable. 2 midterms: u?ll ace them if you know ur stuff.HIS COUSEPACK IS AMAZING. Don?t waist valuable time reading the book.
Great Guy and Teacher. Funny Comments. He's there to teach you the foundation of taxes, not to be a pain... Very Good Class Overall. Exams are fair.
Overall a very good teacher! I loved his little side stories to liven up the class. Professor Goldsman just gives the impression of a "jolly good man" :) Tips for Tax 1: Take him over profs in other sections (great course pack!) For midterms, you WILL know what to expect for 2 out of the 3 questions! Final is comprehensive and so requires more mem
Best Tax Prof ever!!
Doesn't teach, just reads the preprinted lecture notes out loud. When he does the rare example on the board he does it wrong, and then you end up making the same mistake on the exam. Fails everyone on the midterm and then berates the class about how stupid they are. He is the only Tax I prof unfortunately you cannot get around him.
Really liked his teaching style with stories and all. Always available for questions. Tax is a lot of memorization but he makes it that much easier by letting you know what exactly is crucial to know for exams and what is irrelevant. Assignments and past exams are helpful. I'm taking him for tax 2.
Goldsman is terrible! His course pack is seriously lacking in clarity and he spends the whole class explaining theory and no practice problems. If it wasn't for a tutor I prob would have failed. Do as many practice problems from past midterms & finals to get a decent grade. He's also a hard marker and hardly gives part marks. Avoid!
Such a funny guy! Great teacher, maybe the most “human” I’ve had at McGill. He always has a story to help give relevance to the examples. Do the practice exams he gives and memorize the solutions and the assignments. Very nice guy and approachable (just don’t bombard him before the midterm and final exam). Strong recommendation
poor prof. not clear in his examples, tests you from the book, his coursepack is useful but it does not contain everything you need for the midterms. to ace the final, you need to solve past practise exam.
Goes quick over the examples and waste time on details and on unuseful contend.
The exams are hard and overall very tricky. It's a memorization course. He goes over the material very quickly even though it is clear sometimes that the class is not following. Advice: learn to adapt to this class' pace and style quickly, or risk having to re-take it like I did.
Such a funny guy! He always has a story to help give relevance to the examples. Do the practice exams he gives and memorize the solutions and the assignments. Very nice guy and approachable (just don’t bombard him before the midterm and final exam). Tax 2 is significantly harder than Tax 1. Strong recommendation.
Goldsman is terrible for undergrads. Extremely funny guy, Absolutely experienced tax authority in Canada. However, goes through course content very fast, regardless of the level of knowledge students possess in tax area. Also, story-based teaching, no examples prepared u for exams, but if u r already in tax industry for a while, he is ur guy
Has great examples and anecdotes from his personal life. Really clear with the material and manages to make tax kind of fun. Really, really nice guy and underrated prof. Tests are pretty straightforward but it's tax so pay attention to details!
"The Taxman" by excellence, the go-to professor for Tax classes. Very good professor, he even helped me on extra curricular stuff.
Larry makes a boring subject as interesting as he can. He goes quickly, but is always ready to slow down and repeat if you need him to. Very knowledgeable about the subject, and available to help whenever you need it. Exams are very straightforward, and if you put the least bit of effort into them you can do well. Amazing teacher.
You have to be very detail oriented to enjoy this course. I learned a lot and Larry is through and through, extremely intelligent. He probably knows all 5000 pages of the tax act off the top of his head. Although not necessary, textbook questions really help.
Stay away fron this guy if you have a chance to take this course with another professor. Very unpleasant as a person and and old-fashioned as a teacher. He know his subject well, but his teaching technics (I would say no teaching technics, but some course irrelevant intertaining personal stories) don't work well if you want to learn in class.
Lots of material coverage, but Goldsman's lecture notes are a great help. Office hours are a help if you need to see him as he' s pretty available. Quickly replied to my email questions.
Goldsman makes all the tax rules tolerable. Speaks quickly, lots of material. Review his old exams, they will get you through. Lots of office hours.
do the previous exam and you will be more than fine. Make sure to understand at the beginning, everything come back again and again.
Prof Goldsman is great! I'd say one of the best I've had at McGill so far. He makes the material as interesting as possible, and is a really kind person. Try to get your hands on old exams, they're really helpful. Also, beware, the first midterm is quite easy, the second not so much. Final was bearable!
Professor Goldsman is a great prof! He makes the course as interesting as possible. Beware, tax is a heavy course load with lots of rules to memorize. With that said, his exams are fair, especially considering he gives you practice midterms and finals.
Avoid this class and this prof at all costs! (1) This class is super content heavy and difficult. (2) Larry just reads directly from the ITA and his lecture notes. (3) Larry tells a lot of boring old man stories that are unrelated to the course material and a huge waste of time. (4) Read the textbook and do his old exams if you're stuck with him
Goldsman is the Bronfman legend - been here for too long that he has become an experience. Extremely funny guy with a very kind heart. The best way to take him is to record all lectures and listen to it once you make a manager at Big 4 and encounter a tax challenge - you will find wisdom in his lectures. For undergrad, u wont get a thing he says
Great lecture notes accompanied with real life examples to get the material accross. It's a Tax course, be ready for the technical stuff. Not sure if the Income Tax Act helped me in the course. Prof was always available to see me outside of class.
Goldsman is memory. But I was never a fan, as he went through stuff too quickly and his notes were just not clear; however, he was a great great guy. One serious note - buy Jason Fleming's CFE tax, read it at least three times, practice some Goldman's past exam - I'm sure you can beat 90% of your class (click agree once you found out I'm right)
Very technical course. Goldsman will get you through it. Make sure you get his lecture notes and review past exams which he makes available. Very approachable in and outside the classroom
