Fun class. Grandy is amusing.
Probably the most fun GE class I ever took. Extremely easy. I timed myself under five minutes on a fifty question multiple choice test and only got one wrong.
fun guy easy A

Glandy is a great teacher, I found his class to be very informative. Only problem with his class is it is comprised of almost solid lectures, and you never really get to totally finish a song he is introducing to you.
great GE class! awesome, interesting teacher, easy class, easy A.
Excellent teacher! Got me to like the beatles
One of the most entertaining classes you could ever take. Dr. Grandy is awsome!
Definetly one of the BEST teachers at Shasta! I really truly appreciate all types of music after his class. You are missing out if you don't take his class!
Dr. Grandy is awesome and is very full of life. He is always walking around and playing sound clips to get the class interested. I really enjoyed this class a lot.
Dr. Grandy is hilarious, and his class in informative and a lot of fun. I've never enjoyed a GE class so much.

Grandy is a really awesome teacher, he is sarcastic, and informative, and he knows a lot about what went on behind the scenes with different bands. If you want to learn about the music of the twentieth century, this is the class that you want to take.
Class is relatively easy. JUST COPY HIS NOTES FROM THE LECTURES/STUDY THEM and you will do well on tests. If you like to ditch class, watch out for his random roll taking days, because he will deduct you points.
Grandy is an awsome teacher and he really makes class a whoel lot of fun! He's helpful and patient and is one of the best teachers I've ever had!
Great teacher, energetic and knowledgeable. He WILL make you a Beatles fan.
Awesome teacher, a lot of energy!
This class was so much fun. I had it first thing in the morning, and it always put me in a good mood for the rest of the day. He is a great teacher, and a great guy.
He is totally high energy. He really gets into the subject and makes class enjoyable!

Not only is he entertaining but the class is easy so long as you pay attention and remember a few dates and instrument formations. and paying attention isn't hard in grandy's class
OMG!!! One of the best teachers I've ever had. Very dedicated to his subject. Won't let you down, ever!!!!
Very interesting class. Grandy is very unbiased about music and listens to rap, classic, and just everything. Hes pretty easy except his exams are sometimes confusing, but should be able to well in his class. The only thing that sucked was the mandatory concerts. Never had time to attend them and its somewhat significant towards your grade. This is a recommend class for everyone.
This is by far the funnest class ive taken. 180 kids, and couldnt be more kick ass. Mr Grandy is hella funny.
Extreemly good teacher, his music 11 class is probably the highest quality class that I have had at shasta college. You learn a lot from Grandy, and his class is always entertaining.
Can't really remember the class title but I know it was a great class to take if you like learning about music, He love the Beatles remember that though.
Way cool guy! fun class.
Excellent class and excellent teacher. Very easy course but not boring. Free textbook online!
This is a very fun group of people and wonderful music. It was nice to be in a band again. But night classes are pretty tiring.
Dr.Grandy is great! Very enthusiastic with pretty sweet dance moves! He made history of Jazz and Rock really interesting by relating the music with the social and political events of the time. I highly recommend him to anyone needing an art requirement or just for fun.
AMAZING teacher!!! Best teacher I've had! His class is one that all students should take.
TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU GO TO SHASTA COLLEGE! It's easy, fun, and very interesting at times, especially The Beatles chapters.
He is terrible teacher. I took this class because I heard it was easy to get an A and ratings in this address were high but their wrong. Tests are tricky and then you have to go to stupid concerts. weirdest professor I ever had.
This guy can teach and make you interested
Most AMAZING teacher ever!!! He will totally keep you interested and awake in his class. He is very funny and wacky. Be prepared though, you actually need to pay attention and study to pass this class. HIGHLY recommended!
Superior quality class and teaching...A+++ Dr. Grandy knows his subject material inside and out and you will be very appreciative, as his class seems pure entertainment as opposed to a lecture! Take this class to start your day, and you will be energized! ENTHUSIASTIC. Purely refreshing. He loves to teach and it shows. And the concerts are fun!
Took him for history of r&j. The first half semester of the class was kind of boring, then once he got into more stuff I knew the class got a lot more interesting. Grandy can be a bit monotonous and very repetitive at times, not in the content, but words he uses, youll see what i mean if you take him).Otherwise, I recommend mus 11,easy humanity credit
FANTASTIC, KEEPS THE CLASS LIVELY, AND A GREAT SPEAKER
GREAT TEACHER, VERY ENTERTAINING AND VERY INFORMATIVE.
Grandy is a really amazing teacher and The History of Jazz and Rock is a really amazing class. Never a dull moment! He gets so excited while teaching. This is a class that everyone should take, regardless of their major.
Amazing teacher, amazing class. Take it!
Awesome. Take the class
Super amazing. and fun.
The best teacher I've had in my entire life. He loves to teach and really wants you to learn. Made things very interesting and entertaining. You must take notes and study for his tests... they are not easy, but not hard as long as you pay attention and write down everything he writes on the board.
He is a really good teacher, very crazy and eccentric. Awesome class. It's a lot of fun and really interesting. It's incredibly easy, not the subjects are simple... but because you listen to everything since its so much fun. I think that everyone who attends shasta college takes this class.
This is definitely the best class I have ever taken at Shasta College. Dr. Grandy is super fun and very knowledgeable. If you take go to class, take good notes, and study for the tests you will easily get an A. He makes going to class an absolute joy. I've never thought twice about attending class every day.
Dr. Grandy's class is by far the funnest class I have taken at Shasta as of yet. He is so energetic and passionate about his subject that it captivates you and makes you want to go to class every day! As long as you go to class every day, take good notes, and briefly read through the chapters before tests, you'll get an easy A. Highly recommend!
Wow!! Music is truly this guys life! Very knowledgable! Opened my eyes to the history of Jazz and Rock. Concert attendance of 2 is required but well worth the time. A lot of artists, what they played, and timeframe to memorize. Go to class, make some notes, study a bit, and you will do fine in this class. Very interesting class! Gotta Love Music!!!
The best professor at Shasta College! This guy really knows his stuff. He's a master of music and it's the greatest class to take. So much fun but educational as well. If you fail his class you're a retard.
top teacher
The best class on this campus. If you are a fan of The Beatles, make sure and take this class. You will walk away FULL of information!
The best professor ever, hands down! I loved Dr. Grandy's Jazz and Rock class! We learned so much and he is seriously hilarious. Very interesting, informative class. I would recommend it to anyone who asked!
Really fun teacher. He knows a lot about music and I always looked forward to going to class. If you pay attention to the lectures and take notes then you'll get a good grade. I recommend this class highly.
He is a very good teacher. He has so much energy. He lets you know what will be on the tests. If you get copies of the old tests from other semesters, then study them. All the tests are almost exactly the same. Its such a fun class. I really enjoyed is and now I want to take more music history classes.
If you go to Shasta College, you have to take this class!! Just fun! Entertaining instead of feeling like a lecture. I enjoyed starting out my day with this class...energizing! Dr. Grandy is a GREAT teacher!
Dr. Grandy is arguably the best teacher on Shasta College's campus. He is very passionate, fun and energetic, yet extremely professional. If you are at Shasta College, take his class. If you don't you will miss out on one of the most entertaining and educational experiences offered. Highly recommended.
He is the best teacher I have had so far at Shasta College! He may seem strict to some people, but it's only when people disrespect the rules he tells everyone on the first day of class. He's actually one of the most loved teachers at the college and just sitting in his class will make you realize why. There are few teachers who can match him.
Very high energy made class fun. Very easy class
This is one of the best teachers I have ever had. I learned a lot in this class!
Definitely one of my favorite classes so far. His obvious passion for the topic makes it enjoyable. Easy A if you study for the tests. He's a great teacher and makes learning enjoyable. He completely changed my view on The Beatles. Just follow his rules and enjoy
lots of energy. fun class to be in. got to pay attention . no talking in class but watch him dancing around and being Dr Grandy is entertainment for the class
great teacher. study the book.
This guy is over the top, outgoing! He is extremely enthusiastic about the class and music. I learned a lot and gained interest in many genres of music. There were 4 tests, no homework, except to read the packet that he completely covered in class. If you showed up and did well on tests (which are very simple) you'll pass for sure!
Absolutely one of my favorite classes this semester. Dr. Grandy loves what he does. If you read his workbook, study your notes, and get a hold of old exams you will pass it mo problem! oh and don't you dare talk in his class or have a visible phone!!
Grandy was such a fun professor. Very enthusiastic and entertaining, you can tell that he loves his work. For an old guy that taught both of my parents, his age doesn't really show.
If you want a class that is anything but dry and dull take Grandy's history of rock and jazz!! His class will start your day off well :) I never enjoyed learning so much!! I like that he has a song playing every day as you walk into the class. Refreshing.
You are missing out on one of the best experiences in school if you do not let yourself take his Rock and Jazz class. Dr. Grandy is a positive example of tenure.
Wrote his own course material and it's extremely clear, probably the single most effective lecturer Shasta College has. Pay attention, jot down a few notes, read the short chapters in advance of the test and you should crush his class.
Great teacher! Of all the classes I have taken, this one was by far my favorite! Grandy keeps it interesting and is a ball of fire...lots of energy. He is extremely prompt starting/ending class and has a VERY strict not cell phone and NO Talking during class policy. He really made history fun and easy to learn. A++++
Going into this class, I had no love for the Beatles or big band music. However, after taking Grandy's History of Jazz & Rock class, not only did I come to enjoy both, I also finished his class with an A! A phenomenal class taught by an even better teacher. By far the best class I've taken at Shasta.
He's so into teachng that it makes you excited to listen to him. He hops and dances and jumps around the classroom and gives examples by singing himself. Super fun guy.
Great teacher, fun class. You can tell he really loves what he does and what he teaches about. He makes the class very fun, but is strict and enforces his rules all semester long.
He's hilarious and knows his stuff. He's passionate about music and consistently dances around the lecture hall. Those chops though... :)
History of Jazz and Rock with Professor Grandy is one of those classes that you NEED to take during your stay at Shasta College. Even if you know nothing about music (like me) you'll still enjoy it. Grandy plays music, dances, and is overall just a cool professor to have. No cellphones or talking during lecture though, or you'll get the boot!
Dr Grandy is such a fun teacher, he gets so excited over the material and his wonderful stories make remembering information for the test easy. This is one of the most popular classes at SC and it's easy to see why.
If you want an easy A then this is the class to take. He is a funny professor but its god awful boring. You sit there and listen to him lecture non stop, and when he tells you to listen its almost impossible because he is either talking over the music or stopping it. Spends WAY TOO much time on the Beatles. No talking or cell phones!
A stand-out example of someone who is doing what they love. It really comes out of him. A treat to take his class. A real treat, and you can't say that about every class! Rarely did it feel like a regular class. You don't take his class; you experience it.
A wonderful professor and a great class! He always manages to keep it interesting and his tests are not easy, but reasonable.
The class is really entertaining with Grandy always moving around with a burst of energy. He even makes it fun going to every class meeting. I would recommend this class to everyone who is going to Shasta College, worth taking.
I really enjoyed this class. I've never been interested in jazz or rock and now I have attained very high respect for jazz and it's evolution along with the inspiration it has on all other genres. He loves the Beatles and now I do as well, you can tell he loves his job because he loves what he lectures about. I suggest this class to everyone!
Took this class in the spring. Man, what an amazing time. This is the best class I've ever taken. I can't say I've ever heard anyone talk bad about this class. His tests can be somewhat tricky but overall his class is very enjoyable. You have to attend two concerts and critic them in order to pass. You're missing out if you don't take this.
I love Dr. Grandy. He's so funny and seems caring. You have to take his class if you go to Shasta College. Fairly easy way to satisfy the art requirement.
Professor Grandy is an eccentric man. He keeps the lectures interesting. There is a silly requirement to attend concerts and write lectures on them.
Tremendous instructor! Doubt I even needed to rate him because he's that amazing with all of his students and I would take this class over and over if needed so much fun.
He gets really into what he teaches so it makes it interesting and entertaining. Have to study a bit in order to do well on the tests but his grading criteria is super simple to understand.
I liked the class, though I have ADD and can hardly focus on long lectures. The tests are hard you will have to thoroughly read the textbook. Just attend class pay attention and expand your ears that's what he wants.
Dr. Grandy is a great teacher, very upbeat and funny. He doesn't assign homework, but you are required to go to 2 concerts that semester. His tests can be tough, he likes to use trick wording in his questions, and the lectures can seem long. But overall if you love music or are a music major you will love this class.
Completely loved his class! He was extremely energetic for ALL of the lectures! You will not fall asleep in his class. You must take the notes he writes on the board and do not loose them. His tests were easy if you study the night before and listen to the lectures it is a guarantee A. Don't forget to go to the two concerts!
Dr. Grandy is super funny, his lectures are interesting and entertaining. He is so passionate about his subject material, he will be literally jumping up and down and running around. Zero tolerance for talking in class-better not to sit by your friends. Tests are easy scantron multiple choice. Highly recommend :)
Professor Grandy is amond the most respected professors at Shasta College. His class is incredibly interesting and laced with amazing humor, great music, and lots of funny looking neck-ties :-) Beware though, just because you think you know everything about music, doesn't mean you'll pass without going to lectures. Take good notes, study, pass...
Always engaging, he's one of the best teachers I've had at this college
Wonderful, interesting lectures! Gave me such a love for music and inspired me to research musicians. So funny during lectures. Very clear and willing to answer any questions you may have.
I liked this class, but it was harder than I thought. I think he goes out of his way to write tricky questions. I would get questions wrong and I knew the material very well, to the point that essay would have been easier for me. As the semester wore on, I started to figure him out, and it became easier, so stick with it and you'll do fine.
This is a great class. I always loved music, but this class gave me a new outlook on music. You must attend class for the lectures. You learn so much more than just reading the textbook. Tests are not too hard if you studied and took notes on the lectures. Great energy during the lectures and overall a great teacher.
I highly recommend this Mr Grandy he has so much energy in his teaching that makes it more exciting. Make sure you go to class because he will teach you more than the book will.
Grandy is an enthusiastic professor that is very passionate about teaching. His lectures are always full of energy and humor, which made absorbing the information very easy. I thoroughly enjoyed taking this class.
Grandy was the professor for probably my favorite class at Shasta College. He is very passionate about his teachings, and very full of energy. I have heard from multiple people about how they hate History Of Jazz And Rock. I think the key to this is the word History. It's a history class. If you hate history, you will probably not do well.
The lectures are very interesting. The only "homework" is going to 2 concerts and writing reviews on them. Great teacher.
I took History of Rock, the first semester where he split history of rock and jazz into two seperate classes and it was by far my favorite class I've taken at shasta
I took History of Rock and got a B. The class was pretty easy. I did minimal studying. The main thing is to write down what he has on the board. He can be a little boring but still a fairly good teacher.
You have to attend lecture to get the notes. No homework other than going to 2 on campus concerts. Graded mostly on quizzes, midterm, and final. Be sure to take notes and study. Funny professor but a little out there. Stickler for rules, cannot even be 1 hour late for turning in a paper. Does not email, use Canvas, or post grades online.
In History of Jazz and Rock, Grandy is excellent. He is entertaining enough to keep you awake at 9 am and also knows what he's talking about. If you show up and take notes, you pass. If you don't show up/study, you fail. This class is entirely lectures, with 4 exams for your grade. The textbook is his own work, unnecessary if your in class w/ notes
Probably one of the most straight forward and funnest classes I've taken. Dr. Grandy mainly does lecture only with exception to attending two outside concerts at the Shasta college. He does offer extra credit and no homework. Fun and knowledgeable teacher. Show up and learn; you'll pass.
One of my favorite classes, so entertaining and learned so much about rock and music in general for a non-music major. Perfect class if you love music and need credits. Not hard at all to stay focused on lectures, just take notes and you've got an A, don't even need to study! So funny and knows so much about music, has tons of fun random facts
Its an easy class if you pay attention and go to class but Grandy is amazingly boring and thinks he is sent to earth as gods gift to humanity. Strict when it comes to class behavior (no phones, food, talking, etc). Its just tough not falling asleep. He also makes random inappropriate comments. If they were at least funny it would be fine. But no
Dr. Grandy is amazing! You can tell that he truly loves what he does. He gives you so many examples of the genres of music that he is talking about, which helps to keep the information in the brain for later. It is important to be in class if you can because he goes over so much material that if you are absent there are things you can miss out on.
I literally barely showed up to class, never studied and did not go to any concerts or do the 5 page essay in lieu of going to the concerts and somehow passed with a C, I watched riverdale most of the time I was in class and showed up to the final with a piece of led for my pencil. Easy class to pass apparently
Boring class. Thinks he teaches the best class and repeats thing over and over when hes already said it 100 times. Show up and take notes and you will get a good grade. you might fall asleep in class but thats fine, dont go on your phone or talk. Would not take again but is easy if you need this as a requirement
Closest youll get to having a professor that reaches perfection.
Keep your tests! Check his website! Great professor, I am more of a visual learner than hearing, so reading the book was equivalent to his lecture classes.
Really enjoyed his class. His lectures were great, me makes it very easy for you to understand what he is talking about. Would take again.
I would highly reccomend Professor Grandy if you do well in lecture classes and want a teacher who is passionate about their subject. He can be very strict and expects a lot from the class, but his expectations are clear. I will be taking his classes again
Dr. Larry's class was amazing. Each lecture has lots of information so show up to class. There's no homework and you are only graded by 4 exams. In all honesty, his class is interesting because he teaches you about music that you wouldn't have thought to listen to. The book is written by him and is not as useful if you go to lectures.
Dr. Grandy is truly enthusiastic and passionate about what he does. His lectures are dense and incredibly important, but his delivery of the material makes it clear and straightforward. If you attend class and take notes, you will pass this class without much struggle. I highly recommend Grandy, especially if it is your first or second semester.
I took mus11 online, I think he is an amazing professor however when it's online there is a discussion for each lecture, and it soon feels like you're writing a bunch of bullet points all the time. He is on the older side so the terms he uses are not always correct, using "psychosis" in place of hysteria, assuming everyone was heterosexual etc
Mus15 online ruined my semester. The workload was absolutely insane for a 3 unit gen ed class and he was not willing to budge on anything. I spent hours a week writing thousands of words then would miss points for not perfectly recognizing all of the instruments by sound. Heard he's good in person, but online he was the worst. Don't do it!
Larry Grandy is an amazing professor for anything music related. I selected no textbook because there was one but it wasn't ever really needed (especially since he wrote it himself) everything is graded off of notes after lectures and videos and short easy quizes (3 T/F questions) take notes about 300 words long and you're golden
I just wanted to say after taking his MUS11 class online that it was really great and easy. Mostly just watching a video or two and writing what they were about. What makes the class really great is the fact that Grandy is passionate about music and this goes well with his lectures.
A really amazing teacher who clearly cares about the history of Rock music. Assignments are not that difficult, but there a lot of them. I was able to get many weeks ahead in this class, which was nice to focus on the harder classes. I learned a lot about music and culture, and everything taught feels very relevant.
Great teacher.
I took Prof. Grandys History Jazz last semester with an A plus, which can be easily earned with just listening to simple straightforward lectures no more than a few times a week. Doing the assignments definitely matters.
You basically get credits to watch music videos and performances. Only a couple assignments throughout the course. Weekly "quizzes" are just three multiple choice questions per lecture. Take notes or a picture of the board + make sure you sign in/out of class every day and its an easy A. You can tell he's super passionate about what he teaches.
He was a good teacher, he allows you to pretty much go at your own pace, but if you fall behind it is really easy to stay behind and then not get the grade you were hoping for. If you do the work and at least try, you can easily pass this class. He is clearly passionate about Rock History and I do look forward to taking another class form him!
Great class as a non-music major. Just show up for lectures and take your notes. You get a few points just for showing up on time and signing in/signing out. He didn't accept any late work, but that's not a problem since the assignments were quick and easy, they're all short quizzes and writing submissions. His lectures were entertaining and funny!
I took MUS11 online. He has good prerecorded lectures. He also has very long open dates for assignments, allowing you to complete them when able. He doesn't accept late work, but that's understandable. There were no exams during this online course. He gives good feedback to encourage to do better in the next assignment. Highly recommend!
Good prerecorded lectures. Gives a good chunk of time for assignments, doesn't take late work & was inflexible regarding circumstances, so take the L if stuff happens ig. Wouldn't recommend his class if you aren't into music since it's all lectures/basic analytical, but you can tell he's passionate about what he teaches. NO EXAMS/No EC/HW+Lec heavy
Extremely easy class. You need to be on time and show up. You WILL pass if you come and take the notes he has on the board. If you are interested in the history of music you will find this class to be a delight. You can make up two missed classes. He has strict rules due to his amount of students, but they are easy to follow.
This professor was great. We never even spoke to each other once, but he was there if I needed any sort of help or questions. He's super funny, and very passionate about his class. He actually got me to enjoy Jazz, and I enjoyed how he always had music playing literally every single class. He'd never know it, but he changed my perspective on music!
Professor Grandy is amazing. His lectures are engaging and fun to watch. The online class consists of writing about the topics of lectures or answering questions about music videos. There is an easy couple of questions quiz after each chapter. This is the second class I have taken with him and have learned a lot Very informative and enjoyable class
I am just wrapping up my MUS-15 class with Dr. Grandy. So far I have written 28,000+ words for this class. He doesn't quiz or test; instead you watch lectures and music videos and write detailed evaluations of what you learned/saw. It is a LOT of writing, but he is passionate and knowledgable. He publishes all assignments at the beginning of term.
Professor Grandy gives good interesting information and outlines exactly how to do well. There are enough assignments that if you don't do well on one you can still do well in the class. Just pay attention to the feedback you get to improve.
Professor Grandy's MUS11 class is an entertaining and informative experience. With engaging lectures and minimal assignments, the course is both easy and enjoyable, even for non-music majors. The use of Unstuck AI and other study aids like ChatGPT can be helpful for preparing.
Mr. Grandy is an awesome professor who clearly loves what he is teaching about. The class is only graded on lecture responses, which is really helpful when learning. The responses do have to be lengthy and specific but I found it really helped the learning process. He has a strict no late work policy so just get it done on time and you'll be fine!
Amazing and engaging lectures and barely any homework. The quizzes are a breeze, but the written assignments are a little harder. Listen to the feedback he gives on your first written assignment, and then the rest are easy. You have to attend every class, he grades attendance, but the lectures are so good I never wanted to miss.
this class is so time-consuming, listening to the lectures and then writing these discussions. The writing that you have to do is ridiculous. This is like my 26th class at Shasta College and this is probably one of the worst.
Grandy was a fantastic professor who willingly and eagerly shared his knowledge and experience with the subject. His lectures managed to be engaging, and his assignments were simple, well defined, and engaging. If you want to make music or arts your major, Grandy is the best you could hope for!
Yall would THINK this was an 8-week ACE class the way he gives like 3 assignments requiring extensive detail a week...
took his in person class. Easiest class you will ever take.
Dr. Grandy is a phenomenal instructor with extensive knowledge! MUS15 was educational and fascinating. His lectures were amazing and the course content was high quality. It is evident that Dr. Grandy puts his heart and soul into teaching his music classes. Put in the time and effort and you will succeed. I highly recommend taking a class from him!
Inflexible, no exceptions for late work regardless of the reason. Can't submit because of canvas? Canvas help has to contact him, but they can't even see that there was something wrong. Soo many assignments. Extensive analysis on 8 songs and it's only worth 8 points. Awful professor to take online, he doesn't even have an in person option this time
Dr. Grandy genuinely wants his students to succeed. He is evidently passionate about what he teaches. His lectures are straightforward. Put in the time and effort when it comes to the analysis assignments and you will do well. You are bound to take something valuable away from this class even if you're a non-music major like myself.
Dr. Grandy is awesome. His class is designed to where if you show up and follow his lectures, you will succeed. He has a serious personality but mixed in with appropriate humor. I appreciated how communicative he is with students. You always know where you stand grade wise as he treats everyone fairly. This class taught me a lot about music.
