Prof Hartzell is a great teacher. I learned about socialism and politics along with Amer hist. The A I got was hrad earned for only three credits but I dont regret it because of what I gained from his tutelage. Funny and nice guy too.

Woah...Just take him. He is a great teacher. I had trouble handing in the final, and he still gave me an A, without doing the final. He gives everyone an A whether you sleep in his class or never go. Only 3 papers and a midterm and a take home final. Its really easy.

Best teacher at Brookdale, he makes the students interested in what most think consider a dry subject. Don't just take him for an easy grade or becasue you will get out earlier, you will also leave his class a better writer. He makes sure that you can write a good paper by the end of the class.

Larry is a good guy, he wants you to get an A and as long as you show him that you care, you'll get it. He gets to know you and tells you all about his family and friends. He proved to me that he cared about his students when he gave us his home phone number and told us to call anytime if we needed help.

I have professor Hartzell as of right now. I'm taking History 135 online and I love it. The work is easy, but yet it makes you think. He's actually pretty humerous too. He answers emails and questions quickly also. I actually decided to take history 136 with him online again

Awsome teacher if you like almost No work and barly any class. Out of the 15 classes he may have held 5 for hour or less 5 he cancelled and 4 he told us to juss go home. AS for learning, i did not learn alot other then the papers we did, he gives 4 short summary papers and a mid term final paper worth half your grade, do the work decently well, A+

Pleaseeee take him if your going into history.. He is the funniest guy ever. HE starts off each class by telling jokes. I think maybe.... 2 out of the 15 classes we stayed the whole time. He always lets you out early and when i say early.. i mean your in the 3 hr class for 30 mins..

He made his class very easy, he opens up each class with a joke to put you at ease, and it works, he also treats you like an adult, and I learned a great deal from him. I think he should teach other Professor's on how to run a class.

Best Prof I've had so far. He teaches a fun relaxed class, and explains what he wants. I learned to analyze arguements and write solid papers in this class. He finds ways to make you learn while still having a good time. More professors should be like hartzell.

A great teacher!He HUMANIZED the subject which made it more interesting and easier to learn. Summer 1 session so it was 6 papers in 6 weeks! I was nervous but he made the instructions crystal clear and it helped tremendously! Taking HIST 136 next semester with him again. Highly recommended.

I have Mr. Hartzell this semester on-line. I wouldn't say the work was easy, but it wasn't really hard. The only bad thing I didn't like was the reporting of grades. He onl reported are grades once in the middle of the semester. Hard to tell how you are doing if you don't have grades. :-\ That is my only complaint about him.

Prof Hartzell is an amazing teacher. The class is not that difficult. I had him for HIST 135 and HIST 136 and there were no tests. The work was about 4-5 2-3 page papers you would write after reading a document from the textbook. The final was 2 3-4 page papers. Highly recomend.

So a few of us in class were having issues finishing our online quizes in the time frame, so we maturely brought up the issue and he had no issue giving us 5 more minutes per quiz! Seriously, so understanding and fair! Great guy!

Syllabus was pretty clear, teacher was very lenient-there was a discussion and quiz each week, quizzes were timed though 15 questions/15 minutes but he gave you 2 chances. There were also 3 papers and a Final exam. I struggled a bit but in the end I got an A, he is an easy going guy.

I took this class in the summer and ended with a 100 average. You DO NOT need to show up, he tells you what papers are do when and that is all you have to do for the class to pass. Do not buy the textbook, it is a complete waste of money and none of the paper topics are even in there. Really funny guy, the classes you do show up for are always fun.

Mr. Hartzell kept my interest in this History class. I for one am not a history person and had an enjoyable time in his class.

Hartzell is probably one of my favorite History professors that I've ever had. He is so funny, and will constantly crack jokes. He has online quizzes and homework every week. But it is super easy! Only exams are the midterm and final. Which are both papers that you write at home. He excepts late work. Really awesome laid back guy. Love him!

I'd say that Larry needs to quit teaching and become a comedian if he wasn't such an incredible teacher. He loves his topic and knows how to explain things in a way anyone can understand. Attendance wasn't even mandatory so I technically didn't even need to show up, but I was always glad when I did. Take a class with him, PLEASE.

Larry is a great online instructor. Class was pretty easy; he was very clear with assignments & you could expect the same kind of work every week. There wasn't any tests other than the final, just discussions (which were a major portion of grade but easy) & HW short answer question every week for the entire semester. Great class for an easy A.

History class so you have to read/write papers, but he is literally the easiest history teacher here, period. No exams, take home final, no surprises. Class gets canceled a lot, but when you go he's funny. Will take work late, even last day of semester. Take him.

The Civil War class was amazing; he used videos, documents, and lectures. Really covers interesting material & learned a lot, more than any class @ Bdale. Definitely "teaches more" than his regular classes, but he was great. Short weekly HW & take home final.

I took Larry for HIST-135 & 136 over the summer, and I'm so glad I did. He's a funny guy, and you can tell he genuinely enjoys the subject matter. We had a short paper due every week, and a take home final due at the end of the semester. Attendance isn't graded, but he does expect you to utilize your class notes in your final. The best ever. He always starts the class off with some jokes and then you start taking notes, but while your taking your notes he still makes the class interesting. You'll never be bored. Just take him you'll always be laughing.

I have taken many classes at brookdale but the only class that I recommend to everyone is history with Larry. He is without a doubt the best professor on campus and makes the class memorable every week. He gives no homework and you barely read the textbook. One of the nicest people I ever met. I have taken three of his classes and all got A's.

Professor Hartzell is my favorite. I've taken his class for two semesters and will be taking it for a third one. His lectures are actually discussions and really fun. In 136 we took the Jourdan Anderson letter and we became forensic historians and learned so much about him and his family just from the letter. Really cool class.

Larrys an awesome dude, very funny. brings light to the class if you're not interested in history... just do the 5 papers and the final and you'll pass with flying colors

Truly the most laidback professor you could possibly find. Hes hilarious, down to earth, & extremely entertaining. Going to his classes felt like just going to hang out. Theres no homework or tests, just three papers make up your grade. Hes extremely lenient with late stuff, just talk to him & be honest. If you show him respect, he shows it back.

Good choice, decently easy work and he's super funny. I would recommend you take Professor Hartzell if you need to take American History because he's just such a good teacher and will keep you involved and paying attention throughout the entirety of the class. Also, in my experience, he always cut class an hour earlier than it was scheduled.

Larry is one of the best teachers and chillest dudes ever! His class is so straight forward, and easy to follow. I'll also mention he's funny, and interesting. Easy A, take him, you will not regret it!!

Funniest, laid back professor here. Even eliminated some assignments throughout the year, but it was a back-end heavy class. The Final is 2 essays, 3-4 pages each, that's fine. Then he added this obnoxious ABC Book PowerPoint Project I hated, with an extra 4-5 essay about that! Take him for everything but this Recent American Class.

Took him for 135, 136 and 137. Literally the only history professor you should take at Brookdale. End of story.

Amazing class. Wrote many papers but they were based on the textbook readings so if you read the text, you got a good grade. His lectures were funny and interesting. Loved having him and would recommend to anyone taking a history class.

Easy class, great professor. He's really chill and understanding that we have lives outside of class. Took him in Summer 3 session - four 2-3 page papers and a take-home final exam that was a choice of 2 questions of a set to be 3-4 pages for each question. Take his class if you can - you won't regret it!

Mr. Hartzell is by far my favorite professor. I barely every payed attention in his class. Papers had little to do with what the class lecture was about. no test. 1 paper during the course 1 final project and the final paper is 2 at home 2 page papers. He is hilarious. One class he didn't teach at all just told us jokes. Classes are about an hour.

The workload for Professor Hartzell's class was extremely light. There wasn't any in class work; the grades relied pretty much on homework alone. His teaching was clear. He often spent the first fifteen minutes of every class making jokes, he was a fun teacher but definitely not someone I would recommend if you're interested in a rigorous course.

Professor Harztell is such an awesome man! He really cares about his students and makes his classes fun and interesting. Take him if you can, you will not regret it!

Easy class and the guy is hilarious, but he doesn't teach that much during the course. Only graded on papers, that are easily graded, just boring to write. If he is going to be all the way easy and cancel class every other week, he should give multiple choice tests.

Loved this Professor. He kept us entertained and clearly knows his stuff. He took the time to explain and also get to know his students. I wish all my professors were as great as him. Well rounded guy, and i learned so much. HE the GOAT!

Professor Hartzell is a hilarious guy who starts every class with a joke. Took him at 9 am for a summer course and everyone was always tired but he always had the class involved. The class consists of 4 essays that can be handed in up to the last day. The only bad thing is how expensive the textbook was but necessary for the essays.

Professor Hartzell is one of my favorite professors at BCC. He's very friendly, easy to talk to, and MOST importantly, very understanding! I wish he taught more courses at BCC. I would definitely recommend him and I would definitely take him again!!

Assignments for his class included four 3-4 page essays, each of which were summaries of specific longer essays in the textbook. There was no mid-term, and the final was take home; two 3-4 page papers. Your entire grade for his class will be based on those 6 essays/papers, no attendance or participation grade of any kind. Would take him again.

This guy is awesome. Took him as many times as I could because his classes were so laid back, yet interesting. Genuinely a really nice and funny dude, doesn't care if you miss class as long as you submit the essays by the end of the semester. Highly recommend!

Great Professor

One of the sweetest Professors , he understand if your not able to make it to class or make it on time . His Lectures are very interesting . His class is very exciting . Hes one funny guy . Professor Hartzell is the most understanding profs Ive ever had. He knows students have a lot going on & accommodates that with the work load and due dates of assignments. Cares a lot about students as individuals & makes every lesson interesting. One of the funniest & most genuine professors at BCC. Truly just a good teacher. 10/10 recommend!

Hartzell has been one of my favorite professors I have ever had. If you have the opportunity to take him, PLEASE DO! He's kind, one of the funniest people I've ever met, and makes history exciting. If you can't handle humor or don't have a sense of humor, don't bother taking him. He's amazing.

If you need extra time he will absolutely help you out and he's very understanding. I was stressed with all my online classes and he decided to give us a break on some of our assignments and gave us all the points.<3

Professor Larry Hartzell is by far, one of the best teachers at Brookdale. I have taken him for all three Of my history classes and they have all been a great experience. He has away of making his classes fun and exciting and not stressful. He understands that life happens some times and is more then happy to help out with assignments.

I took HIST-136 online and It was a great class. He doesn't overwhelm you with work at all.

Assignments usually consisted of 1 quiz and discussion question per week. We had 2 papers, no midterm, and the final was a paper. He was pretty chill with late assignments, papers could be submitted up to a week late with no penalty. Only bad thing is I tried to get in contact with him once but never received an email back.

Took him in Spring 2020 right when everything was chaotic. He was super understanding. In person, class was good. He's really funny and a cool dude. Pretty easy work, don't need to put too much time into it. I follow him on twitter now and he's also super funny there. Jokes a lot, really easy class.

Professor Hartzell is truly amazing and accommodating! His class is pretty simple, 3 papers including the final (3/4 pages), discussion & homework each week (1 page homework), and then the course is done! Sometimes he exempts a discussion here and there along with a homework. He's a very easy grader, put in some effort and you'll get an A!

This was my first college class and let me just say what a fantastic professor! You really have to try to fail his class. His lectures are pretty interesting and he has some jokes up his sleeve, so be prepared to laugh! Prof. Larry also lets us out of class about 45min early every time.

Prof Hartzell is a cool professor, and he knows his stuff. He is not a hard grader if you put in some effort. He gives 3 major papers, but if you pay attention, it's all things we have discussed. attendance is not required but you may not want to miss he may give valuable info. Homework is straight from the text and fairly doable. I recommend him.

I adore this professor. He gives easy homework/assignments so please just listen in class and hand those assignments in. You'll have a good time during lectures and he deserves being listened to since he genuinely cares about his students.

Obviously if you didn't show up 6 classes you wouldn't find it worth it so all the bad reviews or lower than a 5 is nonsense trust me. Just do the work or literally ask him for help and he will go through it with you. Definitely recommend.

Mr. Larry is the best teacher I have ever taken. He tells funny jokes to the class and he made us laugh during lectures. Also, when he doesn't feel like teaching, he will play us a game for fun. He really cares about us. He wants to make sure we pay attention and do the assignments at home. If we didn't finish the work, he will give us extra time.

Prof. Hartzell is a great teacher! He is the first funny teacher I've ever had, and you can tell he cares about the students rather than just throwing information at us. You do have to buy an online textbook where the homework is, but besides that, he is a super easy teacher. No tests, a few papers, homework weekly, and no midterm!

Excellent professor! His course was not hard, and some homework involved extra credits! He effectively organized what was important in the textbook. Final paper seemed like a research.

Easy class with an engaging professor. Brief assignments, flexible deadlines, and extra credit opportunities make this an enjoyable history course. Unstuckstudy ai was a great study tool alongside the textbook.

Professor is a super easy going. Missed assignments can be completed later on for full credit along with papers. Attendance is 'mandatory' but if you miss class it's okay. (i didn't go to class often and am still making out with a good grade) Only real complaint was that the final was 2 essay questions and it seemed a bit excessive.
