This guy is a joke, he shouldn't be teaching. Take him only if you have to.
He's a great teacher, I dont know how he got that bad remark! He is not hard at all and he makes it as easy as possible for you. My whole class thought he was the greatest teacher!

I took this class to be motivated and to learn how to become a Master Student. I have not been motivated, nor have I learned how to be a Master Student. Class are for 75 minutes. We are lucky to be in class 40 minutes. Wasted college money, he needs to teach, I Want to be a master Student.
I GOT AN A BUT DIDN OT LEARN ANYTHING. HE GIVES YOU A SYLLABUS AND DOESNT TELL YOU WHEN IS STUFF IS DUE NOR DOES HE PREPARE YOU FOR THE ESSAYS HE JUST EXPECTS YOU TO HAVE THEM DONE. I DID NOT LEARN ANYTHING. IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A 3 HOUR CLASS AND ONLY LASTED LESS THAN 2 HOURS
Excellent professor. Teaches students from an adult perspective and tries to get students to think out of the box. More importantly, he is approachable.
I have not learned anything thus far.He doesn't tell you about assignments just gives them. Doesn't explain them and when you ask he says it is in the syllibus. And this isn' clear either. We have not used the book for anything except terms but he doesn't go over them either. What a waste of time.
This class is pretty interesting for me because I am really eager to learn what this class has to offer. The class is very easy and I have learned alot from this class.

he is an ok teacher you just need to ask him questions if your lost. this class did help me in ways. hes really nice and funny at times. it can get boring in his class but i had a hott guy in my class to keep me awake

One of the most dedicated teachers at Valencia. Very approachable and personable, you kinda want him for your best friend, rather than your teacher. Overall, great class, it really helped me along the way. He shows you really helpful techniques to retain study info and I'm getting great grades now!
Basically, the complaints here are that he is asking you to be a college student. This isn't high school, you aren't reminded about every assignment that is due every day of the week. If you feel your money is wasted with Mr. Hearndon's class, maybe you should look at the effort you're putting in. Very approachable, very helpful, very nice.

These people must be out their mind. You complain about VCC not having any easy teachers but when you do get one you complain?! Mr. Herndon is a great teacher he tells you exactly what to and when expect tests. He's an easy teacher just expect to do some work, he gives very little h/w which is like an exercise, and one group project. Take HIM!!!

Unless you feel you truly need this class to succeed, stay far, far away. It is the most boring, pointless class you will ever take at Valencia, full of busy work and presided over by a professor who barely seems able to keep track of his own notes. A total waste of time, money and effort.

This professor is so fine me and my friend would always sit the front of the class just to look at him! He is an awesome teacher with great, fun ideas. Mr. H was an extremely graet teacher. Yes he looks good...well he is fine to tell you the truth but he goes deeper than that. He cares about what is going on in the world and with his students. Conversing with him is pretty cool. You should read some of the textbook and do the work I got an A. It was fun. The videos were interesting too.
Dr. Herdon is the best of the best. He does not only care about his class, he is really concern about his students. He make sure that they are inform about what is going on in the real world. Come to class, turn in every assignment on time, and it should be an easy A. I got an A+ because he gives so much extra credit that are enough to exced 100%.
Dr. Herndon was a very good teacher. He teaches with a lot of structure and you will definitely know what his expectation is of you. All assignments are pretty laid out in the beginning. Problems = he will definitely contact you and help you to work out many issues that you may have. You will definitely like this teacher and his teacing style.
Took him for Student Success, he was alright. I probably wouldn't take him again. He's not hard but he gets annoyed with you if you don't think the same way as him. He's very strict on turning in homework/projects on time but towards the end of the year he starts to relax about it for a while. If you share his views you'll be his favorite. Average.

He requires a LOT more work than he should for just one class - seriously, the amount of assignments he gives out is absurd for a class that's supposed to be so simple. Besides that, he's a decent teacher, though he has a tendency to not be clear enough on assignment due dates. His syllabus was an innacurate mess, too.

He is such a cool teacher i took him for student success, and i loved being in his class, and i loved being his vanna white when we played jeopordy. But he do gives you work but its easy as long as you do your readingand you are willing to participate in class. Don't think twice when it comes to him,because he is an extremely cool professor.

He seems very serious guy and pain the butt sometimes. If you go there, he'll give you like 10 homework assignments for next two days, which sucks as hell. He never help my work neither my homework assignments. He's a good person, but sometimes his work is weird.

I had Dr. Herndon for SLS and Personal Development. I loved his class. It was always interesting but you have to do the journals which is not hard because they are personal. I suggest him. Anyone who fail or struggles in his class needs to not go to college.
He is a great teacher ,but very down to earth. He is very straight forward with all his assignments. Most of his assignments are journals that are worth 5pts a piece. Attendance is a big must for him.
If you are seeking an easy A, don't want to learn anything,have an I.Q. of(80)eqaul to or lower than this fine educator by all means don't hesitate to register for this course. If you have an I.Q. above the median listed afore and are required to take this course then attempt to humor this fellow and write and speak on his level or you will fail.

Its funny I read his ratings people saying how good of a teacher he is, but I think not he gives way too much homework and usually give you like a day to do it and he's not helpful and kind of a jerk just rude!
I definately think Dr.Herndon is an awesome professor. He's nice and understanding but he certainly does not let anyone take him for a fool. He's not gullible when it comes to excuses. He's a teacher who does care about his students though & he actually bothers to learn your name & know you as a person. I recommend him wholeheartedly. He's awesome.

Mr. Herndon is a nice guy. And hes prety fine too. Hes a little bit conceited and he can catch an attitiude really quick however the class is fairly easy. Not too much homework. i wouldnt say hes the best professor in the world but hes cool(for the most part).
I took SLS with this professor about two years ago. He's nice and he likes to get to know his students. However,I didn't like his way of dealing with the class. He deals with it like it is a Comp. Class. He deducted 10 points from my paper just because I had extra space between the paragraphs.I got a C even though I did all my work.Don't take him

Dr. Herndon, is great. Very easy and enjoyable class. He does expect you very best. I took him twice already. He super funny and he is quite handsome.
He is a funny teacher. I looked forwad to going to class. Did a lot of discussions. He is very intelligient and help you to think about life. He doesn't really follow the syllabus and does't respond quickly to emails. I learned a lot in his class. Did a few journals, presentations, and group work. Very easy class! I would reccommend him.
I really enjoyed this class and Dr. Herndon as my professor. He lays everything out in the syllabus he provides on our first day. Yes, there is a lot of work involved. Yes, he grades tough (The only points taken away were from using the wrong font), but he's trying to prepare us for whats to come later. Do the work, come to class and you'll pass.

I took this class back in 2012 but I enjoyed Mr. Herndon as my professor. He is nice, very clear on what he expects and makes the class easy. He has high expectations for his students and if you just do what he asks you will pass with no headache.
Helpful. Stickler for the rules tho. Everyone needs a professor like this their first year for real. Hes precise in grading, clear on directions, ready to help with whatever. Doesn't take lightly to disrespect, insubordination, etc.
Annoying professor. Always going on about his wife. Class is easy enough but is also easy with ANY professor. Will not work with you on anything. Couldn't make it to class because of a tornado warning in which it was IMPOSSIBLE to drive there, said he would not accept the assignments via e-mail. This course got interesting in some areas but when it came to assignments if you procrastinate then you will not get it all done in time. Expect a lot of homework and remember his due dates! He is a little confusing when it comes to future assignments a due dates in my opinion so ask questions!!
I would not recommend this class. The assignments were unclear and contradicted themselves. I was not impressed. Choose another professor if you can. This was my worst experience so far in college.
One of the major issues that i had in his online class was the lack of communication when it comes to the assignments. I'm not sure if it was the Blackboard layout itself or just Herndon being lazy with the organization of assignments. If your taking this class, expect a lot of messages being sent to him because of mistakes.
Professor Herndon truly knows his stuff and isn't afraid to tell you to get your act together. Professor Herndon is arguable the greatest professor I've ever.
He says the class is a judge free zone, yet he criticizes everyone. DON'T take your cell phone out he will kick you out and scream at you. Easy work because its all about yourself. And if you ask a question he will spas out on you.
I'd curse this guy out but rate my professor won't let me. Worst professor I've ever had. Contradictory and confusing who doesn't like to admit when he's wrong. If it's not his way it's not right. Didn't see the point in taking the course but it's very easy. I don't know if it was because I took him online, but he wasn't very helpful and didn't respond to any emails asking for help. TURN YOUR FINAL PROJECT IN ON TIME or all of the previous work that was done is in vain.

Very great teacher, keeps his lectures interesting and also keeps the students engaged with conversations. Theres not really a lot of work just text book work and like 2 presentations 1 at the end of the semester and for our final we have to write an essay, the minimum page requirement is 1 page.
This professor can be condescending and he has a very low volume voice. He needs to connect with the student more and have assignments more detailed (and this doesn't take away creativity, it guides creativity). Lots of group projects, but it is manageable (you don't get to pick most of the times). A professor that is wasting his talents in SLS.
Ridiculous amounts of assignments you have to complete in his online class! He has about 4-5 assignments EACH WEEK THAT HAS 2-3 assignments inside of it (each of these assignments don't take 30 mins, each one takes 1- 2 hours!) . On a side note if you happen to forget to send one of those assignments well heh you can just keep it.
Took the online class and it's so much work, it's ridiculous. There's about 4-5 assignments each week and they take about 2 hours to do. He makes you WORK. He also takes forever to grade the assignments. Just take this class with another professor.

Took New Student experience with this professor. Does not accept any late homework, assigns a lot of work considering what the class is really about. Treats the class like its honors English. To be quite honest he is condescending, and difficult to seek help from. Even his office hours are extremely limited. He does very little for you to help pass
His class is not impossible to pass as long as you follow his classroom rules and procedures and turn in your assignments in on time. He is generally a serious, straight to the point guy who is also serious about his teaching career. He does not offer many extra credit oppurtunities, the only one that was given to my class was the SFI survey.
This man is quite inspiring to the college student, he wants to help in those who want to follow their dreams. His assignments are quite easy and at times they are boring. He gives out many lectures about life and trust me... They aren't just your average boring lectures, he actually makes sense and helps other students with the advice. TAKE HIM!!!
He encourages class discussion. Almost never takes late work but the deadlines are usually always the same. A lot of presentations and group work. But overall he is a cool guy who is also to some extent relatable.

Dr. Herndon was a fine teacher. He wants to enlighten and inspire people to never give up and do what you need to do to get what you want. But, he didn't do that so effectively. It was clear that he had a social agenda (an honorable one at that) but i felt pressured to have a problem or to speak with his voice. Good content class. Meh teacher.
SO. MUCH. HOMEWORK. And yes I know this is college but it's busy work. And some of the assignments have 4 or 5 parts. He also doesn't grade anything until the end of the term. Beware, his class discussions always end in politics. I was not comfortable with the class enviroment because of this. He is nice but I didn't sign up for a gov class :/
I took his class at career source Essential work ... which was great I've learned more in his class then I learn in a lifetime he introduced us to Les Brown which I became a big fan of and I discovered Les Brown and I have something in common I've also became a student at Valencia College looking forward to signing up for his class 1st chance get
He's not really bad at all, he sends lots of homework and he might be a little bit tough grader, but he is not a bad option, you can contact him really easily out of class and he gives good feedback.
Just get ready for lots of writing, and he is a tough grader. Barely pass with an A.
His class is easy if you do all the work. Don't even bother about turning in late work. He wants to fail people on purpose. He's alright. It's just a lot of work and you barely learn anything in the class. I pay attention in all of my classes.
You will probably be typing essays every week, and if you miss class 3 times then you get an F, and if you miss one of the 4 major assignments you get an F. The Professor follows the rules in his syllabus down to the word, no compromise. And at the end of the semester your final project is to combine all those essays you wrote into a story.
Professor Herndon is very condescending and negative. He is very strict when it comes to attendance and his syllabus. I would recommend taking online, as I took his hybrid course and the weekly classes consisted of watching videos and sharing his opinion. There are a lot of long assignments but its an easy A.
I took his online class and it was pretty easy. It includes a lot of homework and papers that were just very time-consuming. Overall there are 4 major papers and 1 major project. Make sure you read is syllabus completely. He replies to emails fast but is very condescending and plain sassy. He wasn't a big help there. Do the work and put in effort
Syllabus is not clear and straight to the point and trying to get an answer reply back is none existent. So many questions needed clarification and not a single reply back on who to confirm the assignment is being understood correctly. He also is not consistent with due dates and grading.
I took his online class as a dual enrolled student. Some of his assignment are harder for DE kids than actual college students because of the information he requires. He gets very behind on grading some weeks, but be patient, honestly as long as you do the complete assignment correctly you'll get full credit.
LOTS of work. If you follow the rubric you'll get full points. Responds somewhat quickly. takes a while to grade assignments. VERY organized. Doesn't let you work ahead. Textbook required but hardly used. I'd take him again.
Lots of homework with a lot of parts to it its exhausting at times and even for your final story project if you choose to present a video explaining everything youre required to do you still have to talk and present doesnt really make sense if the video explains it all.
Doesn't get back to you on emails. When I asked him about resubmitting an assignment that I accidently turned in incomplete he first said I could resubmit then changed his mind. He is a lenient grader and if you turn in the work you'll pass. You'll use thebook once for the code . You only need the code which can be bought from the webiste for $11.
The class itself is structured great, but Dr. Herndon is not good. He is not clear as to what he wants from you, he takes points off for no reason. You can have the best paper and will not get a 100. It seemed to me like he did not care about the class. Horrible feedback. LOTS of reading. Does not respect student's points of views on certain topics

Professor Herndon's class is an easy A! Before Corona, his class was interesting and ready to see what will be new to learn. He gave out clear instructions when the assignment are due and he grades easier. Do the work, you guaranteed to pass.

Herndon's class is easy if you just do the work. Assignments consist of making videos/PowerPoints+audio, discussion posts and online research into your career/academic pathways. Course is structured well, so keep all your work accessible for future assignments. Not much reading or writing, just fill in the blank worksheets for the most part.
take this class online, and I recommend it 100%. you do not require zoom meetings. the class is based on few assignments, no quizzes or tests and a very easy final projector. He gives necessary feedback and it is very easy to get an A in your class. If you need a good grade very easy, I recommend this class.
The class was easy, you mostly just read articles on canvas and only use the book for one module that requires a code. Instructions are sometimes unclear for assignments, and dont expect much or any feedbacks from him on how you did on the assignments. He also doesnt respond to emails.
This class was such a drag, maybe because I took it when I was already in my third semester. It's like a basic career counseling class, but it assumes a lot about the students. It's standardized for college freshmen. The assignments seem like they are just there to satisfy a state requirement. Professor is ok, maybe low energy.
Instructions are sometimes unclear for assignments, and dont expect much or any feedbacks from him on how you did on the assignments. He also doesnt respond to emails.
This teacher literary grades and gives no feedback, he will take points and he will not tell you why, he also will make you spend like 50 dollars for a book that you will be once, if you can, find another teacher.
I took Dr. Herndon for New Student Experience SLS 1122. Participation is required and the work load is heavy. However, if you follow the rubric and participate you will pass. I would definitely take him again.

Professor Herndon is a chill guy. You must attend class to receive full credit for the assignment(s) that week. He is a fast and not a tough grader as long you put in effort.
The professor was truly amazing! The curriculum is not the greatest, but the professor is very relaxed as long as you are respectful.
This teacher was amazing in my summer semester. He did have some long assignments, but if you were able to manage them and not let the assignments pile up it was an easy class! Would highly recommend taking him.
Gives a load of work with, lack of directions as to how to complete the assignments. He will then drop your grade if you do not show up to class, even if you have a valid excuse. Take this class at your own risk.
Hands down worst professor. He would drop your grade to an F just for missing class. Once I felt so sick but I still had to come for my grade. He said in the syllabus that he would accept one assignment late. He has NOT done that. Worst professor in my whole Valencia experience, and you need to buy a whole textbook just for two assignments.
He is the worst professor ever. He goes on off-topic rants that take up all the class time. He tries to belittle students, but he loves to say, 'This institute is for higher learning.' He taunts students and starts arguments, saying things like,'Be a man! Say it with your chest!' Overall, terrible dude, and you can tell by his receding hairline.
I can say now at the end of the semester, that I never for any feedback or learned anything on this class, by far the worst professor I had the displeasure to meet. This class was all about rants and saying students they are going no where in life, he takes random points out, and you will never understand why. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS
Pretty okay professor. He does drop grades for missing class, even with a valid excuse. Doesn't provide feedback on any assignments, especially projects. He also goes on rants that take up a lot of class time, only worth showing up fro attendance because he doesn't teach anything you need to know.
Professor Herndon is clearly passionate about the leaders he talks about, but doesn't really help us develop as leaders. There were a few traits we learned that were useful about leadership, but never got the chance to develop those. We always just studied other leaders. Not much different from social studies, really. Not worth it.
Won't take this professor again
This professor was unorganized, confrontational, and incompetent. He does a lot of copying and pasting. He was unclear on due dates and favored some students over others. He does not follow the grading rubric provided. Do not take from this instructor. He is not a good teacher. I do not know how or why he has a job teaching. He gives no feedback.
The class is pretty straightforward if you stay engaged. Attendance is a must, but the workload is manageable. I found tools like unstuck ai helpful for staying on top of assignments. Overall, a decent class to get the credits.
Was rude to me. If you will fail if you don't attendant class.
My Grade dropped massively after not attending class. He doesn't give any feedbacks and takes long to reply to emails. I emailed him about my final project before it was due for him to check it, and he reply after to my email after it was due saying that I should've asked in advance, even though I did. I really do not recommend him! never again!
He is a very disruptive or a confrontational professor. Anytime I tried to communicate with him about any work before it was due he would complain and say that " I should've communicated with him before hand", and things that nature-when in reality he is poor at communicating and being clear with his directions. poor professor.

I wouldn't take this professor again, unless he was my absolute last option. On the syllabus, it says the discussions are due on Sunday, but in all actuality, you have to post your first submission by Thursday and if you don't, you'll get a five out of 30. Hands out 50% like candy but doesn't explain why you received the grade you got.
Honestly if I knew he was going to be this bad I would've went with someone else , He isn't considerate at all whatsoever.
For the new student experience, this teacher is incredibly harsh and unforgiving.
