its not huckley, its HUCKINS, his class is really boring. sleep deprived? take this class.
blah! he was horrible... can't teach at all. didn't really learn anything either... i had him for honors and that was such a bullcrap class. he has that weird twitch going on too =D
Umm...WOW!!! Look up boredom in the dictionary and you'll find this guys picture. Oh, and if you think Ben Stein's monotone is bad, take Huckins, you'll be introduced to the worst. Just WOW!!!
I dare you to resist coming up on stage and tipping him off the stool. I cant resist to make noises so that my ears could hear some other sounds other then his monotonous voice that hypnotizes you into throwing things at him. I COULD NOT HANDLE IT
Boredom is Huckins, Huckins is boredom... Anyway it's better not to listen to him at all, because the stuff he teaches you in class won't be on the test. Read the book and you'll get a decent grade.
Exams do not reflect material taught in class, extremely boring and unhelpful professor.
Huckings is a prof that makes you learn. If you want an easy A, don't take him but if you want to increase your knowledge of economics, that's a different story.
Huckin's is the worst professor I have had. He should be the poster-boy for Microsoft Powerpoint. This man has no motivation to teach, actually he probably wishes he was dead.
i got 85 average on the test but i got an A.cause everyone in the class get confuse.dun expext learn anything from him.Must self-study
lazy ass, hasn't done class preparation for at least five years, would rather be anywhere else, merely collecting a paycheck and displaying powerpoint slides
Honestly, he might be really boring, but his tests are really easy. Almost 90% of the stuff on his exams come from the study guide. So don't waste your money on textbook, rather buy the study guide, study it, and you are on your way to the "A".
If you want to learn more about Microeconomics, especially preparing for Course 2, you must take him... because he will force you to read the book instead of paying attention in his class...
Very boring, I couldn't even listen in class...He reads textbook powerpoint slides and that's it. Only once in the while he starts talking about current events or examples from life when someone asks a question. The tests are not hard.
Boring class but when it comes to tests, they are not that hard. Study the book and thats it, might as well sleep in the class, he doesnt mind.
this prof. just reads from ppt. His tests come from the workbook, so go to class because he takes attendance and do the workbook that comes with the text and you should do fine.
He's nice, but he was the first and I hope the last kind of boring teachers that i would have. He's mister Powerpoint.I believe he wrote only three times in the board during the whole semester. His exams are very easy if you do the quizzes, he's helpfull
the perfect example:"getting paid for doing nothing." The master of powerpoint. His test are fair and everything comes from the study guide and the book,no surprises. So,the thing to do is read the book and studyguide and u will do fine. The only reason for going to his class is coz he takes attendance
hard, borring & etc
Prof. Huckins is a nice guy...Yes the class is boring ..but what can he do ? its mico, its book related...you cant just make stuff up...he does what he can and his tests are easy..and he is just a laid back guy...why not take him.
bad teacher, all he does is read ppt slides. takes attendance. tests have nothing of what he taught. takes everything from study guide. just a bad overall teacher. so boring.
STUDY GUIDE!!! The tests are super easy and they come from the study guide. All except the essay question which is current events. Teaches from powerpoint and is pretty boring, but its worth it.
SO BORING! tests come straight from the workbook so make sure to do it only a day or so before the test so you remember it. The essays questions are all about current events so pay attention if you hear him talking about something or make sure you read the paper. If anything, it's a good hour nap
he is pretty boring but the tests are easy...80% from the stydy guide. he doesn't even change the numbers....wrote on the board 7 times the entire semester....i counted....he gives huge curves too....8 points on the mid-term and even more on the final
Worst professor I have ever had, EVER. AVOID his class at all costs, especially during winter or summer sessions.
You won't learn a thing in class. The textbook is good though. At least half of his tests come from the STUDY GUIDE. If you're good at memorizing it's a fairly easy class.
You cannot learn anything from his class because he doesn't know anything and just read the powerpoint. don't take his class. otherwise, you will waste time and money. He really should be fired.
He is a quite boring professor.. but his exams are easier.. all you have to do is study from his quizzes and you will get an A.. only if you study his quizzes.. plus he gives extra credit question and plus 11 pt curve...take him only if you can study all the material...esay A...or A-
One of the most boring professors at Baruch. Reads slides WHICH AREN'T EVEN HIS for the ENTIRE semester. It is not likely that you will learn a thing in this class. Study only the workbook and the graphs and questions he mentions in class. VERY GENEROUS GRADER!
his test come straight from the study tests he posts online. just do them over and over again. curves ALOTTT. one mid and one final. leave after attendance cuz wat he says is useless. just study on ur own
He is really a cool guy who just read the slides during the whole semester. The reason most people coming to class is that he took attentance. However. the tests are damn easy if you do the exercise he posted on the blackboard because they are the same questions!!! easy A!
i took his class in the summer. even though his teaching is not good, u can still get an A very easily. all the exams are from the online practice, so just do the practice then u will get an A.
very easy class. He left practice tests in the library. there were like 2 tests and 1 project when I had this class in the summer.
Very boring. Reads from slides. Questions on tests come from the practice quizzes online. But there are many questions and practice quizzes. Easy A or B if you memorize the quizzes. Takes attendance.
Probably the worst teacher I have ever had in my life. Should I even go on?
Wow, what more can be said, reads from slides and talks too much,in his own world most of the time, just talks that eco language that no one understands and then can't answer a question when asked, he bores you and then wonders why you are falling asleep, thats why he takes attendence and wastes time doing so. Need to get his ass up and teach.
1WORD! AVOID - i dont know why he even bothers to teach.. speaks that unknown ECO language..usualy is in his own world .. then wonders why people fall alseep..VEry VERY boring. tests are also VERY hard (80%D+). NO reviews..your best bet..study the slides, definately do everything in study guide and read some text. exams mostly from study guide.

STAY AWAY!!Horrible, Horrible Professor. He takes attendance out of spite otherwise no one would come to his crappy class. All he does is sit there and read off the slides. Does not seem to realize that college students are Literate. Resembles the character Milton from the movie "Office Space". Very biased if you make joke on him all the time.
No practice exams. His tests are ridiculously pointless and extremely hard. He's also extremely immobile and obese. Brings TV Dinners with him to class. To raise grade, give him "Hungrymans", while winking.
This is my first time to give prof. this rating. Think before you register!!
his class: the place where time stands still
These reviews do not give him justice. He's actually a pretty cool prof. He's a little boring sometimes but he does make jokes that are somewhat funny. Try to participate and stay after class to ask Q's as much as you can. You'll get an A if you really know the material. His exams are ridiculously long but he's not a tough grader.
Exams are not that hard. He can be boring but its a good class to catch up on other work.
All you can expect from his lecture is his readings of slides. not a single word from him is added. Exams are easy if you just read the book just a day before the tests.
He is a lazy slob. Does not seem to care that we come to class to be educated. He just sits there and reads of slides which he did not even write. Class is super boring, and he always takes attendance. Avoid wasting time, money and energy by avoiding this guy.
he just read off everything from the slide. but RARELY he would add something useful to help u understand. i don't understand y i would end up B- when i read the book and do the study guide? something wrong with him, or me, or just that the exam is kinda too long??????? anyway, he is a nice guy if u ask him question. i m sure he would explain them
worst professor ever. i am sitting in his class right now, i have never met such a lazy horrible professor. im an A student and honestly have not learned anything at all. he reads right from the powerpoint slides that he doesnt even make. he doesnt even create his own exams. he is soooo bad, u have to teach urself everything. HORRIBLE, that's all.
ONE WORD: The worst
This guy is HORRIBLE. LAZY and seems depressed. He sits, reads of the powerpoint slides which he doesnt create himself. If you ask a question about current events, he will tell you to go read a newspaper. He just doesnt care. He is very lazy- should get fired. He briefly defines a formula and then never mentions it ever again.
All the questions from the summer session that i was takin was from the multiple choice online, so all u gotta do is like memorize everythin, he is def one of the easiest professor out there, i mean like u dont really learn that much but who gives a ****, he reads off slides that you can read on ur own n interpret from the book faster, overall it w
the worest ever, avoid him at all cost ,he does not teach any thing at all , at what he does is set on his chair read the slid and look at his whatch for the time to end , yes he gives you Quesion online , and the test is from these q , but do you know how many q are they , ok for every chapter over a 1000 yes just for one chapter and you have tow
IF YOU WANT TO MESSED UP YOUR GPA THEN JUST TAKE HIM, HE WILL HELP YOU TO LOWER YOUR GPA. NEVER TEACH AND THE EXAMS ARE HARD. NO REVIEW BEFORE THE EXAMS.
Hard exams and never teach. Easy D in his class.
He's really not that bad! Just study on your own and you'll get an A! like me =D He'll review your exam afterwards. Ppl that rate him low are just dumb thats all. He's not the best but you're not doomed if you take him. just read the book! overall he's still a nice guy just not very good at teaching. you'll get what you deserve in his class.
I took him in summer and I went through horrible time. This guy keep read the PPS which you can read at home. You have to study by yourself. His exam are medium hard. could you believe it that he covered 16 chapter in summer session and 6 chapters in each exam. Although I got B+, I had to study really hard. I could've got A with other professor.
so boring, but easy. just study the slides urself. he takes attendance so u have to go to class.
Very boring. Teaches from powerpoint slides which u have it in your book. Better off learning yourself.
Pretty chill prof. who tries to help you as much as possible. Yes, the material is not easy (it is calculus and micro combined)but he tries to explain it well. Gives tests straight from workbook, and if you study you will do good. He is an EXTREMELY generous grader (curves nicely) and you will help your chances if you PARTICIPATE!

This Professor sounds just like the Clear-Eye guy, very monotone and walks with this hunch, sort of like the guy off Adams Family. Kind of scary... Do the study guide problems over and over, read the book a little, and be there for class everyday, and you should be fine.
stay away!!! Do not take him!!! Very Hard Exams and he loves to give out C's
got a-... For Eco 3100 this class is really hard. His curving method is kinda strange Best score+x=100. So if you are the best than you can get A.
Stay away from this professor. Just reading the powerpoint slide. Talk with monotone. He doesnot know how to teach. His exam is really hard. He doesnt have enough patience. The final exam will start at 3:30, but he starts at 3:45. The exam will finish at 5:30, but he yelling students how long he has to wait at 5:00. He is the worst professor.
WORST professor at Baruch. He's he reason I changed my major. The class is really hard, and he doesn't make it easier. He goes at warp speed. Nobody understood what he was teaching. It's as if he spoke another language. Has his favorite students, curves, but you must have a good grade to begin with. Please, stay away for your own sake.
economic is an interesting subject but he makes it boring, extremelly easy to fall asleep in his class...he basically read from the PPS, so prepare study on your own...not an easy A but he curves!
3 tests that are pretty hard but he curves. doesn't really teach, just uses the powerpoint slides.
Just reads from pps slides. you have to teach urself. A waste of money and time. Have to read and do your own work to get a good grade on exams. I have to take this course again to get a better grade but not with him again. He needs to get up from his seat and teach like a real professor.
I’m sorry but the bad comments are true. The only way I was able to pass his class with a good grade was because all he did was give big curves. That might be good for some students but I want to be able to learn something, a mean, Economics is my major. All he did was read the power points and he won’t even stand up and teach. Good Luck!
Seriously, people need to stop complaining. Okay, he's not the greatest teacher, but econ isn't easy to teach and it's not a simple subject. He doesn't ask for much- read the book, do the workbook problems, and try to stay awake in class. Studying 3 hours a week, easy A. Did I mention his ridiculous 9+ point curves on both the midterm and final?
Monotone voice, just reads from slides, BORING. Takes attendance randomly. Tests are semi hard and he curves. You need a good basis in Micro to continue on to Macro, I recommend taking someone else! My grade wasn't too great even though I never missed class. Study on your own a lot and do the practice on Blackboard.
I just had my first class last night and it was so bad I went online to see if anyone else had similar experiences. This guy is worthless and spent most of the class complaining about Baruch and saying how bad it is, regardless of the fact that we're all paying to attend! He should be let go.
Just reads powerpoint slides that he didn't even create. Doesn't get up from his seat. Goes so fast through some of the slides he may as well have not even mentioned them. This class is 110% about teaching yourself. Read the text, do the workbook. Don't count on him for anything. At least four times per class he complains about Baruch and/or his pay
This guy gets a bad rap. You won't learn much from the PPTs he uses, and the book isn't that great. But if you pay attention to his real-world examples, you'll understand that his experience and knowledge go beyond the textbook (which is dry and boring itself). He's well-educated and a very reasonable man. You'll learn more from him than a textbook

Great Eco professor, knows his stuff. live examples. gives good curves and extra points for having full attenadance. Willing to help students, just ask him .
I have had him 3 times, and he became better every time. He does read off of powerpoint a bit in certain classes, intermediate level, but also engages the class in discussions of the topics. Also extremely helpful if you do not understand a topic: will go out of his way to help. Generous grader as well. Also very knowledgable on the topic.
Winter sess. He is not that bad considering how little he has to cover all that material, no wonder he flies through some slides. Most of those slides arent that useful,u have them in front of you anyway! His stories show real good experience and looking back (class was 1/2008) I dont remember the book much, but his real life examples were exelent.
Huuuuuuuge curves, very hard material, textbook is of little use so save your money.
He gives a big curves. The book is useless so don't buy it. Pratice problems helps to study for his test. Test are OK but kind of Hard. What saved me was his curve.
The post on 5/8/08 is mine. The final grade was much higher than expected all across the board. He gave a big curve then he mentioned in class. But then again, he didn't teach. You probably don't need (or want) to know that he graduated in a recession or his last yr salary raise was behind inflation...
I think I would have learned more or anything for that matter in this class had he got up out of his butt. This guy only show slides and reads them and throws an example or two... This is totally a class you have to learn on your own, not just with him but with any micro professor. He's not evil just.. not a good professor.
He is not that bad. He knows his stuff, he's always willing to help. The test is hard but Eco 3200 is not an easy subject, you really need to put some effort in it. If you crewed up, don't worry, he gives a huge curve.
Literally reads slides that he himself did not create. I do not have much respect for this "professor". Go to the recitation (to teach yourself, cause she is bad, too) and teach yourself the material.
DON'T BOTHER with Huckins. He comes to class to collect a paycheck. He plagiarizes off the textbooks PowerPoint slides. He's overweight therefore he only sits and reads. Half the class leaves after attends and the other half gets bored to sleep.
Yeah, but can anybody give some info what exam format, attendance, etc. You know, some factual info would be appreciated too here. Thanks.
Ok, for attendance, there are assigned seats. but just show up in the beginning so you get checked off, then you can just simply leave, no questions asked because he doesnt care, he doesnt care about anything. as for the tests format, all multiple choice. study the quetions on blackboard and youll do just fine, but the class is torture.
Can someone tell me if reading a book on my own will give me a good chance of getting an A in his class? How many tests? What type? Thanks.
You definitely need to study on your own. The grade is based on 2 midterms and 1 final (all weighted the same - 33 1/3% & curved) that were all mc and from 33-35 ? each. The best way to study would be prac ? on blackboard. Attendance not mandatory - just don't go over the limit. Try to get at least 70 on exams cuz w/ the curve makes it a B+.
if you read the textbook, take your own notes, and do the practice problems he gives, its hard not to get an A. he gives around a 20 point curve on all the exams
He is the worst professor in baruch. He never gets up and reads only from the powerpoint. Half the class always leaves. We get 2 midterms and a final each (33.5%). He does give a curve depending on the average of the class, but if there are others professor don't choose him.
Extremely boring class, can never stay awake no matter how hard you try. No wonder so many people leave during the class. However, he is a very easy grader, curves the exams. The only thing you have to do is read the book yourself and do the MC questions which sums about to 5000 questions. but nevertheless easy A if you have read the material.
It's a core course so I really didn't blame the professor for the lack of interest. Took him in winter and got it over with. 1 midterm, 1 final, 1 group project (which was completely unnecessary in my opinion). Anyway, allows cheat sheet to the exam and gives very clear hints as to what will be on the exam.
not good, just reading the slid ,not interest to teach students, he is upset all the time, and seems hard professor,
I initially hesitated to take this professor due to the comments posted on this site. But now that I don't understand the need for all the bad comments. There is 1 midterm , 1 final , and a group paper. The midterm was curved +20pts. Students leave the class early because it is 3.5 hrs long. I learned alot in 3 weeks. I would recommend this prof.
If you are a MBA student, you are expected to read a textbook and understand materials prior to an ctual class. If you do so, his lecture certainly helps you to learn a lot. He is helpfull if you are trying, but he is not if you are not trying. His exam is hard but he gives a big curve.
I took macro eco under Huckins. Under the constraints, the professor did an excellent job going through all the chapters. He presented a lot of case studies as well as gave examples from the credit crisis and Obamas plan. I found the class to be practical. 1 Final, 1 mid term and a project on the Solow model covered in 3wks..fair and a big curver.
He did not have passion for teaching, and his exams were long and hard multiple choices. the Multiple questions were not related to his teaching. Very poor performance, not helping students to get a C and above.
I strongly recommend that you DO NOT take this professor. He does not teach. He simply reads off of the slides, wasting everyone's time (we can read the slides ourselves ...). He allows the class to fall asleep and therefore being there is completely pointless. No one would go if attendance wasn't mandatory.
Poor teaching
He is not caring student's learning, hard professor at Baruch
His teaching was not helping you to do the homework. Waiting your time and might ruin your GPA. Basically, you learned on your own. If you are smart enough to understand the book. He is fine for you.
This professor is not the greatest at all. Makes everyone fall asleep and people don't particpate in class cuz all he does is read off the pp slides. I suggest to not take him
I don't think people is fair to him. He's a very intelligent professor, he knows what he's teaching. If you actually listen you him, you will learn a lot. But, he might actually put you asleep....
Good review for the final exam, everything he said in the class was very important because he could summarize for you. I recommend you to take him.
He got this super power to put you asleep while he opens his mouth! And once he stops:"that's it, for today!" I woke up. I could never hear a word he said. He is freaking boring. I failed the first class in my entire college life!
The lectures are direct reads off of the PP slides which can be viewed on blackboard. The PP are directly from the textbook (which I purchased) The recitation class was useless and not mandatory. If economics interests you, there is a good chance you can do well if you study the textbook.
Don't know about the basic courses but his Adv. Micro was great. All lectures were a straight preparation for the exams, including the news discussions. That is why voice recording his lectures may be helpful. Not a hard grader. Exams were only 60%. The rest was class participation & article reviews. If you make an effort, you get a good grade.

Reads from the slides, doesnt get off his stool, eats in class, drones on like a vacuum cleaner. Puts you to sleep the moment he opens his mouth. Oh, and attendance is mandatory - he takes it out of spite. Best professor I ever had. =)
Nice guy. In the beginning, I really didnt like him, but I got used to him. You just gotta read the book and understand the concepts to get an A, which is possible, cuz he gives a massive curve.
The only things that's useful in getting an A in this class is the 2592+ practice questions that he puts up on the blackboard, The workbook practice tests and the course compass practice test that you paid $155 for. However, THE ANSWER KEYS IN THE PRACTICE TESTS AND THE WORKBOOK ARE WRONG! You have to be a mind reader to get an A in this class.
Thousands of questions that he posts up on blackboard was useful... OH WAIT THE ANSWER KEYS ARE WRONG.
nice guy... but ... IT WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE IF THE ANSWER KEYS WERE RIGHT since he doesn't teach and we learn most from practice test anyways!
He posts outdated practice tests that has vocabularies that's not even covered in the newly updated version of the book. Sometimes the answers are way wrong so the practice tests confuses everyone and he doesn't tell us until the day of the test. I know it's the publisher that made the mistake but he's still responsible for informing the students.
Great professor! He is a really nice guy and if you read the book and study the practice questions from the workbook you will do great.
I took this course in the summer. This guy is one of the WORST i have seen. All he does is simply read of the slides. Does not explain AT ALL. It was simply a waste of time. He is so boring that most of the class is sleeping during lecture. You can leave the class in front of him during the lecture.
So anyone who takes Huckins and complains must be a total slacker. He's a real nice and helpful guy and he gives you everything you need to do well.He even gives big curves and is a pretty easy grader. Just do your work and study what you're supposed to.He tells you everything that you need to know for tests. What more you ask for?Great professor!!
If you like to be spoon fed through the semester then this professor is not for you. If you are a college student then he is the best. He gives out mad curves for exams. All you have to do is read the text before class once and review the text before exams. Also the sample black board tests are great practice.
Boring lectures. Reads PPT slides. Might as well teach yourself and read the txt (as I did--got A-). Does answer questions when students ask. Practice quizzes on BB are great. Never went to recitation.
he is the best ECO Prof. very helpful.
He is great, take him. very kind and approachable outside the class.
Prof read from slides and didn't provide much insight. You need to read the text and do the practice problems to learn and do well. He is flexible with grading and gives a large curve.
Read book! Teach yourself! He just reads slides. Subject is not hard but he covers the entire book! Exams are conceptual, M/C & essay ( a little tricky), just a lot of material to remember, & one 7-12 pg paper. If you work hard, you'll get an A. I did it in winter while taking anoter class and got an A. Oh & you'll wait forever for your grade!
Can anyone write a rating about how much/what kind of calculus is in the Adv. Micro (4100)class? Thanks.
Too bad we do not get much choices for eco minor. He is probably the best though for eco 3100. Very nice, gives very generous curve. I like him as a person not as a professor. He reads off the slides yet exams are much harder. study guides consist of wrong answers so not much to study from to be honest. Reading book is just conceptual; not enough
One of the worst professors at Baruch! Does not know how to teach. Be prepare to read the text and teach yourself. Grades arbitrarily! You might average an A and still get a B! Uses some stupid paper to give final grade. I had second highest grade in class for both exams and still got a B!!! Total GPA killer. Take him at your own risk!
Prof. Huckins is such a joke. Took him during the summer, 2 exams and a 10 page group paper in a 4 week course. Horribly managed.. lazy.. and lack of interest in teaching. Avoid if possible.
he is a GPA killer. You basically have to teach yourself and exam have nothing to do with what he teaches in class. STAY AWAY if you can
Please stay away from this teacher. He is a total GPA killer. You basically have to teach yourself and the exam has nothing to do with what he teaches in class.
An honest review? This professor is very lazy: sits & dictates from ppts. VERY BORING!!!! You'll have to rely on the txtbk & guide. The material is not impossible at all, and he gives generous curves. If you have an overall good/nice class, he'll do a lot for you: practice midterm/final which is 50/50% of your grade. No hwks/projects/anything else.
I found his lectures very clear and interesting. He cares about our grades and encourages us to ask questions if we're confused. He posted the previous semester's exams as practice exams and went over them in class. Plus he weighted the exam with the higher score 60% and the lower score 40%. I recommend that u take him!
Took him for both 3100&4100. A nice guy, but very sarcastic&inapproachable sometimes. He tells you the topics on exams, but still they're tough because some parts aren't in lectures nor book. Huge curves. I thought he'd be decent if he stood up to teach (couple times in 3100), but he wasn't much better in 4100 despite actually standing.
The class is very hard and confusing if you have not taken calculus recently and are very good in economics. The professor is nice but I was lost for the entire semester. The curve must have been steep because I bombed the midterm and probably did bad on the final. I managed to pass by a miracle. You dont need the textbook, waste of your money.
Took him for the summer: one mid and final. I had to read the whole book chapter by chapter. Lectures are extremely BORING, because he was not really teaching, just reading off slides. Tests are doable though, just do as many practice quizzes as you can.
Exams questions come from nowhere, many of them you will never see in the study guide and the textbook. When you ask him questions about the practice exam questions and the actual mid-term exam, some of the questions he DOES NOT even know how to do, and he has to consult with his colleagues. later he gives everyone the credit since there is no ans
Only has 2 tests, which count 50% each toward your final grade. This means that if you do bad on one, it is next to impossible to receive a good grade for the class. The questions on the tests are like nothing you study, so you are almost guaranteed to get a bad grade. Avoid this idiot like the plague.
If possible avoid Prof Huckins. He teaches straight from the slides and lacks any enthusiasm. If you cannot avoid this Professor then make a study group and studying the material on your own. Read the book, do as many practice questions as possible, and make sure to memorize any practice problems he gives you because they will be on the final.
3.98 gpa who took profess twice: Huckins is INCREDIBLY smart, helpful, a genuinely good person who will be as accommodating as possible and is ALWAYS available and consistent. He can answer ANY question you have. If you want to be spoon fed- move along. But dont blame it on the professor and make false claims that he is unhelpful or incompetent.
Really surprised at negative comments, definitely all from poor students as everyone I know loved him. Professor tells u exactly what you need to know, never throws a curve ball, always avail and patient for questions/ office hours. Even though he does much more than the easy a professors, students who want to do nothing wil peg him as the bad guy
whatever good comments u see here, its posted by professor himself. He is lazy, uses the powerpoint, doesn't even stand up from his chair, and repeats whats on the powerpoint. if u wanna ruin ur gpa and learn nothing, take him
Prof. Huckins is a very considerate professor and very approachable if you have any questions. He surely reads from the slides and gives live examples. Exams are hard as he makes you think with real-life situations. Curve ball is high. He definitely is concerned about those who do not earn a passing grade in class. The course is hard too.
So absolutely boring! Just reads the powerpoints off the board in a monotone and barely moves off his chair. Tests are hard but curve is many points usually.
He reads off the slides. The tests require a full understanding of the material. Which means you will spend a lot of time studying. He curves the grades which is very nice. He may seem mean but he is actually a good person.
Took in the summer. No homework. Three exams. Just read the book and ask him to clarify questions you have. This class wasn't THAT difficult but it was EXTREMELY boring. Probably better to take during a regular semester because we just sped through the material and there were not many interesting side discussions.
I liked economics until I took Prof. Huckins class. The professor looked bored teaching the subject. Through out the semester, he just sat there and read the slides. Very rarely did he get up and drew up graphs or showed us how to do the problems in the midterm/final. I definitely regret taking him.
I took him during the last spring semester. He reads ppt slides and the class is quite boring but he answered questions well and clearly with proper examples. Three exams are the only things you should card about. He doesn't check attendance. Exam questions were very similar with Homework problems and student guide book. Also he gives high curves.
Don't think I'll receive a good grade, but he's decent. The students are dull. Ask him a question, he'll give you interesting and lengthy responses. All he wants is someone to ask questions and show an interest in the class. He's great to talk to, doesn't give an attitude, and is patient while explaining. SELF-STUDY COURSE.
Please stay away, take him as a last resort to avoid worse professors. He is a terrible professor and he really doesn't care, which is obvious. Attendance isn't mandatory, I didn't go to class all semester, 90 on my first exam and ill get the same on my final. Its a self-taught course, expect him not to help.
A midterm and a final (70%), 4 written assignments (10%) and class participation (20%). Textbook and workbook are not required, borrow from the library if needed. Short answer questions for both exams. STUDY and MASTER the homework problems! and you will do fine on the test. Be sure to participate!
Took micro with him over the winter. Horrible professor. Read off the textbook's slides. Do yourself a favor and don't take him. Purposely tried tricking us during the midterm. Grades were just the midterm and final.
One of the smartest professors you'll find that doesn't care an ounce about his job. He breathed no life into the subject. This is self study course, especially during the winter intersession. If you are time strapped and have not much experience with the subject, avoid.
DON'T take if you're working and/or are not great at math/calculus. Prof is nice, but hates his job & you don't learn much in class-SELF-STUDY COURSE. Grade is 50/50 final & midterm(cheat sheets allowed). Curves 10-20 pts/test. Expect to study A LOT-he says you wont need calculus but its not true. I'm normally a straight A student, but I got a B-.
honestly, this prof. is only in it for the job. he does not care a bit how well the students perform in his class. hes a phD and was never able to find a job so he got stuck teaching. he told us so himself. unless youre good with reading the entire course material in the textbook yourself, DONT TAKE HIM!
2 exams only, but hard, though he gives high curve on both of them. To pass exams do practice tests he gives and homework. Questions are very similar to exam questions. Homework questions are abt 30% of each exam, make sure you UNDERSTAND them, and you will do good. Study guide is the best way to prepare! Paid attention on lectures and got A
In four years of school this guy is flat-out the worst professor I've ever had. All he does is read off the powerpoint. Don't expect help... you'll be teaching yourself most of it. I'm an econ minor and he has done nothing more than suck the passion I had from this subject from me. Avoid at all costs. Your GPA isn't worth it.
He is a very intelligent human being. He loves the subject matter even though it may not be apparent to everyone. To make the most of this class, ask him questions, participate, stay after class to talk to him about topics you want to know more about or you want to clarify. This class can teach you very valuable material if you are willing to learn
Two and a half weeks since his final and I'm still waiting on my grade. Judge for yourself. He curves big, participation matters, meaning you HAVE to go to the board at least twice and do a HW problem to get that 20%. Midterm and Final based off HW problems. Overall a little less than decent professor.
Only 3 tests and each counts 13 of your grade. He gave out the slides and practice problems of all the chapters on the Blackboard at the first day of the class. The tests weren't from the practice problems but not sure about test bank, so you really have to read either the slides or the textbook. He gives pretty nice curve tho
Read the textbook, make good notes (on textbook, not the PP slides), and do the practice problems he gives you, you'll pass. Ask him questions! He's very helpful and make sure to go to the class before each test , he goes over all the sample problems and explains them well. Lecture is boring, but attendance policy is pretty lax.
I failed his class, but it was my fault.. The professor is clear and direct. 70% Midterm and Final, 10% Assignments 20% Participation. Firstly, the class is very tough and the material is very heavy statistic and calculusmath based. Make sure to do HW problems, as the tests are based off them. MAKE SURE you mastered HW problems before taking test
By far the best Econs Professor at Baruch. Make sure that you are not only doing home works but you understand them. his exams are based on the home works.
spring '16. basically self learning course. study slides. curved class. 1 midterm 1 final. both are 70% mc and 30% will be similar questions from the homework. he will give u practice hw questions during the semester & teach u how to solve them but beware he is messy when writing on the board. chill class, not hard but not ez. would not take again.
You will have 3 test. they will be your entire grade. However he's got tenure and is well past the point where he wants to do anything beyond read the power point which is the same as your book. It can leave you ill prepared for test. His practice quizzes are a better marker of how you'll do, they include some actual test questions.
SELF STUDY COURSE. Let's get that straight. You must learn on your own and WORK HARD for it. He's a very nice man and will answer any question you have, but will not even remotely prepare you for exams. Study hard on your own, do practice exams, and hope the class doesn't cheat so your curve is high
I took him in the summer, 2 exams - 60% and 40%. 2 home works, not graded, but useful for the exams as he gives similar problems. Prepare to read the textbook. He was very helpful and explained the material after the class during his office hours. He curves. I would take him again.
Prepare to teach yourself economics. I got a C in the class and thats cause I got lucky. He is terrible. Just reads off the powerpoint slides. Your grade is dependent on only two exams (a midterm and a final).
I was fortunate enough to get an A- even though I'm a bit upset is wasn't an A. However like i told my peers.. "READ THE BOOK" you can literally study off his pp and I guarantee you, you will struggle. All in all its not the professors fault its the class itself. The curve was amazing i was holding a 99 average on the class up until the final!
look, idk why his rating is so BAD, but i took his summer class which is very intensive, we had one midterm one final, 60% n 40%, he grade u the better exam for 60% n less gd one for 40%. Nice person although he only read the ppt in class but the hw he gave us is actually in the exam, so do his hw n understand it! i got an A!
Not that bad, I got a b but overall I am happy,
Only midterm and final. MC format. All MC questions are exactly from text bank. Easy A if you can memorize MC questions from text bank. Besides, he does CURVE. I got C- in midterm but got A in the final. Love this class.
Prof. Huckins is the worst professor. He does not care about the students. He just reads the PowerPoint slides and he never explains things right. This class had about 70 students and many people failed the midterm including me. I had to drop this class since he never did a review for the midterm. DO NOT take this professor.
1 Midterm & 1 Final. The homeworks are VERY important. Make sure you understand it completely. Its kind of a boring class. He curves very generously. Weights the higher grade more.
This professor only gives two tests (Midterm/Final) the whole semester where he will base your grade. It's 40/60. His lectures are useless for the tests. You have to read the textbook and learn yourself. His assignments are definitely on the tests. If you have a choice, don't take him.
Although this was definitely a self-study course, he does care about his students. He's a very nice old man, but his lectures are extremely boring. He reads off ppt and there's lots of online hw. Read the book, review the practice exams. I didn't put much effort into it. BUT, THE CURVES ARE AMAZING!
I just go there for attendance. Review some of the power points READ EVERY CHAPTER OF THE TEXTBOOK I got 70s on his exams but the curve is AMZING but I still receive B+. Studied my ass off for the final though and I think I aced it hence A but he counts his HW as well. He is really nice though and he cares just READ.
Prof Huckins gives awesome curves but his exams are difficult. I would study of Baruch's micro department practice exams and as wells as his practice exams. Study the terms and teach yourself all of the math concepts because he just goes over his slides does not show how to do a math micro problem. Homework is very important in this course.
i thoght he was terrible. he sits in his chair all class and has a boring mono toned voice. he did not explain the material and it was all on yourself to teacht he class for yourself. DO NOT TAKE CLASS if you dont have to
I took him for the 2017 winter session, and boy that class was boring as hell, midterm 40% and final 60%, I have no idea why he took attendance, but anyways this guy sit and read for the entire lecture, you may want to bring a pillow to your pillow, that's how boring that class is. He started teaching math problems (HARD!) and then final days later
If you can avoid having professor Huckins please do. He's a nice man but he is the most boring professor I have ever had. His lectures are him just reading out of the textbook. He doesn't explain anything! He also assigns hours of homework with little time to actually do well on them. He does give great curves.
Knowledgeable man, but lazy, and likes to read off PowerPoints. Also likes to talk about how miserable his life is in class with a monotonous voice. Exams are hard, but gives good curves. Willing to answer questions about the real world.
Lectures are not particularly helpful, and homework is a lot of guess work. The best method is to do your best on the HW beforehand, and teach it to yourself based upon what other students conjure up. Exam questions are similarish to them, so its helpful to learn.
His lectures will put you to sleep, he's extremely boring and reads straight off the slides. Really a self-taught class, but uses test bank for exams... still wouldn't recommend him to anyone.
Took for summer session. Definitely a self-taught class, read your book. Gives lectures straight from powerpoint slides but doesn't get too in-depth. You'll most likely fall asleep in class or end up leaving early. 3 tests, plus HEAVY online homework. However.... gives great curves (10+ points per test and homework average).
Only reason I got an A was because I stayed on top of my work and his great curves. 4 different things graded. Took the highest 3, each for 30% of your grade, and the lowest for 10%. Curved each of these categories based on the class average. You'll pass, but only if you work for it. Do what you need and stay on top of yourself. It's college. :/
Lectures are meh, textbook is awful, and he assigns a ridiculous amount of homework per chapter. You have 3 tries on each hw but it takes the average, not the highest, and neither the text nor the lectures tell you how to do them. It's very much a teach yourself class. Big curves, though, since everyone is equally lost. Good jokes, though.
he's funny since he share stories about his life, but his lectures are powerpoints that he reads off. we use cengage which was tedious but somewhat helpful. mostly read on your own and self study to get an A. the midterm and final review was helpful. his explanations make sense if you read the book. do your part!
I always think there is nothing impossible I took his class after reading the comments here but I said I am going to make this possible and prove everyone wrong. I did math minor therefore it came slight easier to me but if i had choice I will not take this professor or if this was my minor class i would change my minor to something else trust me
Don't take Larry unless you have to. No amount of prep will get you a good grade. Exams are almost 100% based on homework. If you take him, expect to get ready to set up camp outside his office and beg him to show you how to do the homework problems for which neither his lectures nor the class textbook can help you.
Studied super hard still got a bad grade, because he just talks off of slides and doesn't really explain much. Huge curves though.
Take this guy only if you are good at math, especially at Calculus 3, I ended up learning more math in his course than actual microeconomics. His explanation are ok, not the best but ok. I took him for both eco 3100 and eco 4100 like most do. If you are up to the challenge than than look no further this is your guy.
In all my years of college education, I have not met a worse professor than him. He is lazy --he rarely tries to get up from his seat to actually teach the content and instead orally tries to teach calculus/economics as if that's possible. When asked to explain on the whiteboard, he resents you. Unless you know calculus + a Eco major, you will fail
Tests are very fair, but the class is not an easy A at all. Prof Huckins is personable and very well versed in the subject, but he's pretty lazy. Tends to read off slides.
Taught myself the whole course and got a solid A. Class averages are very low.
Its a pretty boring class. The professor tries to input jokes but the material and the lectures are not engaging enough for a person to listen to him. A bunch of homework to do that nobody enjoys especially cause of how much knowledge is required to complete them.
I had to take Professor Huckins because there was no other option. But now I regret my decision. He refuses to address questions about Pearson homework, as he is clueless himself. The final has questions with faulty choices, which he had not cared to check when he changed the numbers for the questions. If you want your GPA to drop, take him.
I took him for winter. 1 midterm 1 final. 80% MC and 20% math which he gives exactly from homework. All MC is straight from test bank. Memorize the test bank, you will get A for sure. His lecture & slides will not help you in the test. Totally self taught class. Attendance doesnt count. I didnt attend his class & Ive got A.
He literally just reads off the slides, and I seriously fell asleep every class. The one good thing is he gives you the answers to the long answers before the test but the MC are so tricky and worded so confusingly that its almost impossible to do well. Even with the curve I didn't do well, and I had a 3.9 GPA before this class...
HIs class isn"t exactly riveting or inspiring but as long as you do the homework and at least try in the exams he is a VERY generous grader.
You'll have to teach yourself everything. Read the textbook and and do all the review chapters he puts out. You'll get at least a B before the curve (17 pts this semester midterm, friend said 19 last semester). He's boring, but not the worst. He makes up for it with his curves. Grading is 60/40 final/midterm, with your better score getting the 60%
Time has really passed this guy by. Halfway through the semester courses moved fully online. Prof. Huckins completely failed to adapt. Weekly emails saying "Read this chapter in the textbook and email me with questions" was the extent of his "teaching" (if you can even call it that.) Save yourself the time and energy; take a different prof's class.
Do yourself a favor. Just drop.
GPA KILLER. AVOID!!!
Prof. Huckins is a great option during covid. There is NO in-person lecture (even on zoom) and is an easy A if you read the textbook, do his practice questions, do the required MindTap activities. Also, it is very helpful to email him and go to office hours so he knows you are an active participant in his class!
Easiest class. Period
Do yourself a favor, drop his class. All he does is reading over the slides. You will not learn a thing! one midterm and one final, plus mindtop exercises, you will need self-learning(hard) all times in order to pass all these exam/homework with a decent grade.
As an online course this was really easy. He was a fast grader and always accessible the exams were all multiple choice and came straight from the test bank. The homework was really easy as well if you have chegg. Overall I would say that this is the easiest Econ class I have ever taken at Baruch. Also zoom attendance is not required.
He is one of the worst professors here at Bruch. He does not teach at all he does it read off the slide. I don't wish him on anybody even on my worst enemy.
I took him for the 3week winter session and it was okay. His lectures are just him reading off slides, hw is on mindtap. He curves the exams so that the average is an 80. His midterm had 1 graph q worth 10 pts and 45 mc 2pts each. The final was 50mc 2 pts each. A lot of the questions are from test banks, but not all of them. It was meh.
Terrible... he was also SO RUDE and would disregard questions in a very condescending manner. His homeworks were PLENTY and overall I didn't learn much but I know what kind of professors to stay away from.
Very happy with the class. Very knowledgeable and helpful professor. Always available outside the class to answer my questions and give me clear explanations. He pushed in the right direction. He prepared me well for the tests. I made sure to read the textbook and to work by myself. He was always here to explain if needed. Exams were fair.
mind tap 30%, the rest is midterm and final. Simply reads off slides in class. Expect to do A lot of self study if you take him.
His course is not for those people who just want a free A. No one can help you if you cannot self-study. If you want the prof to spoon-feed the material, you better drop the fking college. Midterm and final are easier than Econlab questions and the exams are fair not hard but not easy. but he does make huge curve based on the avg.
He curves midterm(MC+long question) only. Group project is a joke. He won't give feedback or grade. Final is all MC questions and it is not cumulative. However, this guy won't post any details of grading. He assigns letter grades based on impression.
If you can self study, it's an easy A. If you need a professor to teach rather than read off the slides, don't take him.
His class is definitely challenging. The lectures are incredibly boring and make it difficult to stay engaged in the material. It feels like the professor is just reading from the textbook. The only way to get a good grade in the class is to show up everyday and take intense notes. Beware of his difficult tests too...
Pros: - heavy curve - clear grading criteria - if you study you pass Cons: - Just reads slides - Doesn't foster good learning environment - makes it difficult to ask follow up questions if you don't understand something - homeworks take FOREVER You will pass, but you will not have a good time. Exams are curved average to 80, so don't stress that.
I will admit that lectures were very boring since it was him majority reading off slides. Lengthy mindtap homeworks as well. However, Huckins is probably my favorite professor OAT since he's a nice person and he curves insanely, to the point where if you manage to fail the class then economics should not be your course of study. Take him for 3100.
Lectures are dry, but Huckins curves exams heavily. Lots of Mindtap homework, but if you study, you'll pass. unstuck study ai helped with practice problems.
I have to say, our class has a 60 something average and he added 20 points to all our midterm. He's class is boring and tough, but I will not complain about the grading, just spend some time study before exam then you should be okay.
Very lecture heavy and difficult subject. The professor takes attendance, but half the class stopped coming anyways. The average scores for the tests were 50%, but there's a heavy curve - so a 60%, is a 95% after the curve. People give the professor slack because he's boring, but I think he has pretty funny dry humor. He's overall a good guy.
The links to the practice problems/ assignments don't work yet they are heavily used during the midterm and finals. I brought this to his attention and since they are working on his end, he doesn't see the issue. Other people in the class are having the same problem. We shouldn't have to pay for a class, and not receive the material to do our best
He doesn't care about if you understand it. Tons of hw count as the average score. PPT is from the textbook, so what's the point of his lecture? He used confusing jargon instead of clear explanations. No cheat sheet, but it wouldn't have helped. I took ECO 1002H had a faster lecture speed, hw, and presentation, but it's not as stressful as his.
