really helpfull teacher. Kind of hard marker, but really clear and helpfull. Great teaching methods and excellent field experience.
Sort of strict, like a high school teacher but he is a very good one. He's very helpful and he always makes sure that you understand.
Very good professor over all. Explains topics clearly and throughly. Can treat students as if they were still in high school, but overall very good
Treat us like we are some dumb high school kids
does all his explanation by using power point. can't really explain anything without it.sometimes gets confused himself and confuses everybody else.
Didn't like his teaching style
He is so mean. Hard hard hard marker.
Very nice teacher. Kind of a hard marker in the sense that you can't ramble on for marks, you have to know your stuff. Overall it was a pleasure being in his class. He's one of the best accounting teachers at the school.
Explains topics clearly, provides solutions to problems, and uses power point for lectures. A very good prof.
Good prof, but not a good marker, so you gonna just do your best :P
I would say he is an average prof not really a hark marker, very helpful, very understanding n gettin an A in his class doesnt need much effort.

The best teacher at Seneca, he explains everything clearly. Hard marker but the best teacher. If you want to pursue accounting, take his class. learned alot from him
he is very impatient.
he always try to find excuses for his own mistakes. not honest.
Good powerpoint reader, great mistake maker, and perfect excuse maker.
yeah, he makes mistakes on the board. but he's a good prof and if you catch his mistakes that means you're actually paying attention and learning.
He is very clear and his marks are always fair. Honestly, he gives you what you desereved. Yes, he makes mistakes sometimes... but who does not??
Like a high school teacher
not fit to be a teacher for math, always makes misatkes and when students realize he says he was testing us (liar)
He needs help with conecpts from the class Treats people in degrading and condecending manner
This guy has no clue what he's doing. He doesn't even know the stuff he's teaching himself and has trouble answering students' questions without his notes. if its not in his notes, don't expect a clear answer. I have no clue how he got a position as a teacher.
Boring teaching style, but mark is fine.
you can't ask him anything that is not on his answer sheet, if you do, you won't get an answer. borring class + took months to mark an assignment.
Professor Hurst is the best Accounting teacher in Seneca college. He is funny and friendly. He cares about his students and willing to offer help when they needed. He would tell you what to study before tests and exam. He respect students and treat them as friends.
Best professor. Makes sure everyone gets involved. Very organized. Do your work and he's a fair marker.
A good teacher! You can learn many things from him! Funny! If you work hard, you can get a good mark!
He doesn't have enough responsibility to students. His explaination is not clear.
"he is a good looking professor" and he is fun. i like him very much.
Mr. Hurst is more focused on covering the course outline than if the students understand.....
worst teacher ever!!! teaching what teaching.. there is none. He is definately one teacher that should be fired. He costs many students in the ACF program to upgrade and redo the course since getting a "B" is highly impossible. Hard course + Horrible teacher = Drop/change section/redo/or just barely manage to pass the course with him.
The professor is not fair, dont take his class any more. He thought everybody wanna trick him....such as, how many words in your assignment.....so boring and stuburn!!!!!
Larry is a great teacher. I don't know what the deal is with all of these comments. Honestly, are you coming here to learn or get babysat? Larry expects his students to be professional and courteous - don't talk while other people talk, do your work, participate - thats all!He cracks up alot of jokes too. He's a really nice 'grandpa' sort of guy.
he is good.he has a sense of humor. if you respect others in class, and he will respect you. listen his lectures,do homeworks, prepare and review, you 'll get good mark.he is helpful, no matter who you are, where you from.he's fair.
He is very "inflammable" be aware of what you say or do in front of him. He might found it as you giving him offense. And one more most important thing is the final review he did for final exam is totally useless. The Inventory FIFO/LIFO didnt show on actual final paper.
great teacher learned a lot from him
He is the best professor at Seneca!!! If you are not too lazy to do your homework you will get A+!!!!
Great teacher!!! he knows his stuff. Since the course is so difficult itself, it seems hard. Material is confusing, just go to ALL classes, do ALL homework and extra problems and you should be fine.
Nice but freaks out and goes berserk sometimes. Expects regular attendance and participation. Checks for homework daily. Alright marker but biased. Two people can have the exact same answers and one of them will have a lower mark. Favours certain students. Teaching style is to provide more of a general overview and overlooks some details. Makes mistakes occasionally.
dont like him!!!!!hard marker!!!!!!!keep away!!!!!!! he Likes the A+ students, but not concern about the poor student....
He is an experienced and knowledgeable guy; his explanations are clear. Believe me, this is a way better finance prof than any other. Tests are just like homework, only easier; not a lot of theory. He is a good prof, the 2 finance courses in ACF aren't hard, unless u are dull.
He is nice but he likes students who participate in clas and doesn't put much attention to the poor students.
Seems friendly. Expects REGULAR attendance, class participation, homework completion. Biased, easy marker, especially if he likes you. (Otherwise, he's okay) Gets angry if you do not fall into the "Regular" category of classes, participation, HW and marks you slightly harder. Likes a few (top) students mostly. Makes mistakes on the board.
Great prof! He's a bit tough with homework, he gives a lot & expects you to have it done as he takes it up. But when you're wrong, he very gently explains why. He's calm, soft spoken & very nice. He's super helpful if you go to his office hours & he's very accommodating. As long as you do the homework & are prepared to participate, he'll love you!
Excellent prof!! He is a very good teacher and very fair and cares about the students. Go to class and do the homework and you will get an A!! One of favorite profs!
Best prof! He's really knowledgeable. He cares about his students and he wants them to succeed. Great office hours and more than willing to help students with any questions. Just a really nice guy. My absolute favourite prof! You're lucky if you get the chance to learn from him.
Good prof. Nice guy. Lots of homework.
If you show an ounce of interest in the material, he'll like you. He's nice and always in a good mood. Just watch out, there's a lot or homework.
Cool prof, but he picks faves. just make sure you're one of them.
Brutal
I hate this kind of teacher. He is totally useless and he don't know how to teach, extremely bad teacher.
People when you go off to post secondary you are an adult responsible for yourself. Therefore the teachers expect you to behave like an adult. This is a really good teacher the students who say bad things about him are idiots and probably failed the class.
great accounting prof. if you're serious about accounting and wanting to learn it, he'll get the job done. he expects respect from his students and returns it. very helpful, negative comments below are probably from slackers or people hoping for a free ride.
not very nice to students. does not care if you have trouble in course
He is a great teacher, I never had a problem understanding his lessons. He has a decent sense of humour, unlike many other teachers. He is also very lenient when it comes to marking tests (from my experience). All of the low ratings are probably from whiners who made little or no effort to keep up with the course material and failed the course.
I don't care how qualified or how Knowledgable Larry Hurst is. If he can't control his anger or his behaviour then he shouldn't be teaching here.
if he is going to teach, he should learn polite manners and positive behaviours, otherwise don't teach
poor quality.
He is the best teacher I ever had! He is very helpful and funny. You will never get bored in his class. His knowledge about accounting is unlimited. he is willing to help students after class. People who gave Larry poor quality are those ones who never put effort and failed the course!
Very helpful.Easy to understand
very knowledgeable and very nice. can be humourus at times, but when writing exams, his tests can be brutal. if you show that you care about your work, he may sympathize. but if your lazy, dont do work, dont expect mercy from him
Classes are waste of time! his teaching is reading the slides and he just copies the solution on the board when taking up the home work! you are better off to study the course on your own than going to the class!
Good Professor, Great Person. Lectures were narrowed to the outline material. Spoke and explained clearly. Tests were more than fair. Preparation for tests were fair. The good thing is that he told us where and how we can use learned material in real life. Otherwise,I wouldn't know how to calculate shares' worthiness in the future. I recommend him.
Over all he is a good teacher. He is helpful and knowledgeable, but he spends more time on home work and less time on lecture.
Had him for FIN401+603. As a person, he is nice, tells jokes, approachable. However as a prof, lacks motivation and interest. Reads off powerpoints, doesn't explain concepts or theory well, doesn't explain homework solutions - just writes them on the board. After two FIN courses I can't say I understand finance. I just know how to use formulas.
nice teacher, but not good at lecturing
Great teacher! Cares for all his students and doesn't give up on any one of them no matter how unmotivated they are. I enjoyed all his classes because he makes it fun with stories and jokes that relate. Highly recommended.
He gets upset if homework is not completed. He likes to spend most of the class taking it up and goes around the room, if you didn't complete it he gets upset and he'll lecture about homework. He has a terrible way of helping you when you need it so i recommend you consider a tutor. His class was the worst class i have ever attended. Hes rude.
He class starts with 60 student and at the end there will be only 10 left , that is also a "May be"
I really like his classes.
He is an amazing professor. And very helpful. He also has a high standard for students, but it is very up to anyone who wants to improve or not. So, good students always love him.
He seems nice but he's rude at times if you don't follow what he says. Rude. Confusing. Unfortunately, he was the only option for finance, I guess. One final thing if you are not happy with your mark, you better off don't come to him and question it because you'll be pissed off by his rudeness no matter how politely you ask
I pay tuition to learn, not giving it for free Mr Larry! I am really disappointed whoever assigns him to be ACF Coordinator and an accounting professor. He comes to class with nothing but reading straight PPT slide to slide. Solutions is straight from solution bank (book publisher) and test preparation is none. That's my experience, have fun
This old man seems nice until the marks came and he will screams at us. During the summer, I saw him yells at a student and throws away his paper in a midterm. After the test is returned, as someone asks him how does he get the result and the explanation, he ignores her and keeps writes down the solution. Very rude old man.
Find yourself a solution manual and a test bank. Practice on your own and there's no point coming to class. Unless it can helps you sleep easy.
very nice and helpful professor! always there to help his students.
Wrost prof ever. He doesnt disclose marking method. Very rude. If you ask how he marks, he will answer rudely. Reading straight from ppt. Boring class. No point to go to class. Better stay away from him. I didnt have choice when taking this subject
I recommend taking this course for summer since it offers two prof. I have him 1st semester which is horrible. Then I have Mr. Henry is much more nice and knowledgeable so he helps you a lot. Best is staying away from this man if you have a choice.
He's probably the rudest professor in Seneca. Besides, everything is from the powerpoints and solution and his job is to read them off. The test is really difficult as half the class drop the course after knowing the midterm result, even the toughest students choose to drop. You will not learn anything from him. No test preparation whatsoever.
Why is he still teaching in Seneca? He's probably the worst professor, even worse than Cary Ng. No teaching skills at all. very grumpy, impatient, disrespectful, immature, and angry. I did not believe the reviews on this site that's why I chose him. And now I pay the price. Even if you work hard, you can still fail if you don't study the whole book
Half the class already dropped the course (with no tuition refund). That's also a maybe
horrible professor. No comment
This guy is a disaster. Here's what he usually does to his students. He marks the exam or assignment extremely hard, making more than half of the class fail. And then he appears like he does students a favor by giving them a few more marks (but they still fail). Totally corrupted old guy who likes to manipulate marks to fail students
Larry is the worst of the worst. I did not believe the reviews at first and now I learned that lesson the hard way. Really painful lesson. PLEASE DON'T CHOOSE HIM!!!!
If you want to fail and learn absolutely nothing after the course, choose him . That's all I can say
bad personality. No one wants to be around him. He also doesn't have much knowledge in Accounting and Finance. Before you ask him anything, make sure he brings his publisher's solutions
the most corrupted professor in Canada
From Corporate finance's perspective, if you take this guy's class, you not only have zero net present value but very very negative. He takes the money from you as tuition in exchange for nothing but frustration and a bunch of lies and hypocrisy. If you're already in his class, you'll know exactly what I'm talking abt
Larry's class looks like this. you come to class believing you'll learn something. He call students on the board doing homework question for half the class. The other half of the class he spends reading off powerpoint. The homework assigned has nothing to do with the final or midterm. You go home and realize you shouldn't have take his class.
Better to quit, if you are in his class. Worst professor in Seneca history. If you ask question, he ask exactly the same question to you.... "Clear WARNING" DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT HIM!!!
I disliked this lecturer. All for himself not really focused on assisting students. Tests are relatively tough. He likes to say "Whether you guys fail or not, i"ll get paid" Like why would you say that to the students.
A teacher who knows his content. Just don't do things to piss him off and you'll be great! Try and work to get good grades. He respects or doesn't respect you in that regards.
He is a good professor and has a lot of experience. He likes that his students do home works and be active in his class.
He is great
Hurst may come off as rude but he's a good prof. He didn't spend too much time lecturing and spent most of the time delving into practice problems and taking up the homework. I think for accounting it's more important to focus on understanding the problems so that was really helpful. If you do the homework he assigns, you'll get an A, no problem.
Do the Labs and Connect, he will give you a good mark
He's awesome, if he sees you trying he'll really help you out.
I have to skip the class due to my important problem, so I have to email him when and where did the class move to, he refuse to answer. The WORST professor I have ever seen.
Very tough marker worst teacher ever!! Only reads the PowerPoint, doesnt answer your questions, doesnt explain anything, lots of homework. You would need friends in that class in order to understand everything..
Those possitive comments are unreal, He is definitely the worst teacher in Seneca History, Bad manner, worthless lecture-barely explain things, just read off slides, boring teaching method,DOES NOT care about if students understand or not, and his extreme rudeness is another special to everyone in the class,Haven't seen a worst instructor than him.
Larry is a really funny teacher. Unfortunately his classes are also quite laughable. He is hardest marker I have ever had. Assigns a lot of homework without explaining things clearly and magically expects everyone to have it done perfectly and man does he get mad when you don't have it done. He also gets very confused while teaching.
Tough on the outside, soft on the inside; he is a walking contradiction. His explicit "no" can mean an implicit "yes." Lecture-wise, if you want to do well, be prepared to spend a lot of time learning on your own. He expects his students to read the chapter before class. If you don't, don't bother coming at all, it just wastes everyone's time.
He is trying to make jokes, but I don't think he is good at. He gives homework, and to be honest, I learned the accounting by doing homework, not in his classes. He can't teach well.
I don't understand why Larry's rating is so bad!! He is a nice professor, had him for FIN401 as well. He doesn't mark very hard and looks for marks to give you. He expects you to do homework, but only a few questions. his lectures are not the most interesting but honestly I have had worst profs at Seneca, so not complaining about Larry.
Larry Hurst is a good professor. Even though he read the powerpoint and let the class do the exercise in class, it is a good way to learn. It is ok to make mistake and you learn from your mistake, so if you do the connect homework and participate in class, he will like you and he will help you out.
The professor on the date of the tests didnt come prepared to have the tests fixed, and scrambled to relay the corrections to the students. very unprofessional.
