I echo the athlete comment
it's TOTALLY against the university policy to give some students advantages;student athletes. I'd like to see him tell Dan Angel how he treats the rest of us commoners who come to school to LEARN!
In his class, student athletes are the only students in the room! Don't bother trying to get on his good side unless you can throw a ball of some sort! His tests are incredibly difficult, that is, unless you play a sport!
I will have to agree about favoritism toward athletes. Just keep quiet and voice no opinions and you will do fine. I doubt he will change.
I have to say I never saw favortism toward athletes in this class. If you read your materials, made comments in class, did your assignments, and DID NOT fall asleep, you did fine. I never had a problem at all. Easy, but at times boring.
I feel like he sympathizes with communist countries a little too much. We are there to learn the geography and history of the world-not just the countries he feels have been given a hard time by our country. I don't care about treatment of athletes.
He doesn't favor the athelets in my class, he almost kicked one out the first day. He does take pride in what he teaches and that makes it easier to learn. Even if you don't like the class he has enough stories to catch your attention.
This class is harder than the majority of my 400 level business classes. I have to say that he is willing to help you as long as you show some interest.
To demanding for intro class. Also show favoritism to certain students. Has an anger problem. Not very clear for tests. Steer far away from this professor. Take anyone else.

very rude to everyone, thinks he is the geography god. seems to know his subject, but acts more like an arrogant, self-absorbed, recent highschool graduate than a professor.

Very difficult class but if you ask him for help he will help you. Exams were hard, I wasn't really sure what exactly to study! He's very intelligent and knows the material. DON'T FALL ASLEEP! DON'T TALK DURING LECTURE!

In my class he had all of the athletes stand up on the first day and continued to favor them the entire semester. I also agree that the class is very demanding as an intro level. He is knowledgable and be prepared if you take his class.
He can be rude at times. He acts as if geography is the best degree that will get you anywhere in life. I thought he was helpful unitl today he said he might not be able to help me during his OFFICE HOURS! His tests are hard and he's not clear.
This is GEO 100, not 400! Dosen't realise that everyone isn't a geography major. Hardest 100 level class I've ever had. Favors football players over anyone else, but tries to make it look like he is harder on them.
Larry has an outgoing personality. He is well-spoken and very intelligent. Take him if you like to go to class.

Very rude. Seems to want students to fail so he can show them how stupid they are. Uses class time to express his political opinions, not teach. I can't believe this man is the department chair!

This is the meanest professor I've ever seen! Do whatever you can to avoid him, he is out to humiliate students, not teach them.
Big Jarret is the most boring prof. I've ever had. I fall asleep all the time, and then he threatens to kick me out. He calls on my every day, but always has to ask for my name. He doesn't teach at ALL, he just reads from the book, needs to retire.
He is a horrible teacher.Very condescending.Not helpful, even during office hours.Tests not graded 2 weeks after taken. You have NO idea how you are doing in the class, and he makes no effort to let you know.

Perhaps very knowledgible, but very ineffective as an educator. "Lectures" entirely from the textbook, adding NOTHING to the reading, so why does he even bother? Would be better off doing research than teaching a class. He needs to go.

"lectures" from the textbook, until his speeches turn to his wonderful life in foreign countries. even though you're paying his salary you're NOT ALLOWED to leave. even to use the bathroom. DO NOT TAKE HIM.

He is very prejudice and made that clear almost everyday in class. I do not recommend this teacher to any unless you are a black football player and then you're in luck b/c you'll get to cheat on every test.
Very understanding and helpful teacher, especially when one to make things up after an absence. If you really read the book and take notes out of it, rather than just glance at it, you'll do fine! Map quizzes are challenging, but fair. Study maps well.

Ah geez people, go up! Professor Jarrett is as fair as anyone alive and I'm white! If you put any effort in at all you'll get an A. Had him for at least six classes and got A's in every one. Nice man outside of a class full of morons.
Extremely helpful to students who are committed to working hard. Sets a higher standard than most students expect. Brings his real world experiences into the classroom. Take him and profit from the experience.

alright class,does so favortism to athletes but is willing to help any one who asks. does teach straight from the text and nothing else. does talk of his wonderful life alot and incorporates it into the lectures all the time. overall not a bad professor just have to ge to know hime
This guy sucks..2 1/2 hours class but no break..had to listen about his wonderful like the entire time..so full of himself and of something else..boring ass class and boring teacher..showed favortism and talked down to students but he so superior to everyone else what did he care..dont take him.
This guy is CRAZY. If you get this teacher, drop the class and get a different teacher immediatley! You have to pay 150% attention for 2.5 hours and if you give your opinion and he doesn't agreee, then you are WRONG. Map test every single week for the first 5 weeks or so.VERY DIFFICULT GET OUT NOW

By far the most inconsiderate teacher I've ever encountered. Extremely arrogant and sarcastic. He also rolls his eyes behind students backs after they ask a question he thinks is stupid. Ridiculous map quizzes containing 125+ items, only 30 of which you identify on the actual quiz. Do not take him!!
At first I didn't like Jarrett because I thought he was just trying to pick on me exclusively.After I thought about it I learned that he knew I wasnt working as hard as I could and was going to push me to my full potential.Heis sarcastic, and arrogant at times but I love it because he keeps it real.
Political commentary relating to the class itself I can kind of take to a point, but keep your thoughts on the allocation of educational funds in the federal budget out of the lecture buddy. Got a problem with it? Tell your congressional representatives about it, not us.
Very rude to students. Starts class 5 minutes before it actually starts. Goes off on tangents about his life that are not pertinent. Gives map quizzes with over 100 things to learn and there are 5 of them... only about 30 will be on the quizzes that are crappy copies where you can't tell what he wants. Get to know this professor outside of class. You'll be surprised how great a man he is. He's been very helpful in my academic career.
Makes the class extremly too hard. Was a complete ass. One of those teachers that has been in his field so long he doesn't know how to relate to people who are learning the subject for the 1st time. Avoid this man at all costs!!

Screwball. I asked if I could do my research paper on a certain topic, and he told me yes. I got my paper back, and he had written on the front page that it had nothing to do with geography. I went to see him about it and after he looked at his comment he said, "I was wrong." I nodded, and he got mad. "I wasn't wrong! You know what I mean."
I give him a 3 on easiness for the fact that he goes over notes a thousand times and repeats himself in each class. He tells you exactly what is on the test, IF YOU PAY ATTENTION, and if you do something called...studying...the class is simple. He is a good teacher. Give him a break! He offers his help all the time, your responsible for taking it.
I admit there are a lot of athletes in the class, but I've never seen him favor them. He wants to help everyone and anyone. If you go to him one on one, he is a totally different person than in class, and he does everything he can to help his students out. I recommend him to everyone, we all need a good challenge!
Take the class online, or with a different professor Jarret is one of the worst professors I've had at Marshall. He's rude, condescending, arrogant, and definitely favors athletes, even allowing them to cheat on tests. Gives outrageous tests, and the map quizzes are awful because the maps are awful. This class is much too hard for a 100 level class
He was the worst teacher that I have ever had in my life!!!! I would advise that no one take him!!!
Just one thing to say "Reverse Racism". Ask him he'll tell ya everything that's ever been wrong with the world is caused by the white man. I love people of all races. But this man needs to get over it!!!
Awful teacher! He will try his hardest to make you look stupid in front of the whole class. Hardest 100 level class EVER!!!! Unless you are an athlete then congrats here is your A ever one else gets a D.
This class is very very VERY boring...monotone voice, pauses too much in between sentences making it even more boring. Horrible lecturer & you pretty much have to teach yourself the material...exams are rediculous & worded to where it has nothing to do with the book. That is all & get out while you can if signed up for this class!!!!

This class was extremely hard, there is much study time required, reading is essential and so is note-taking, he did curve grades, but it was for the summer class, he comes off as strict but is very smart and knows his stuff, He served as an ambassador to the U.S-lots of stories!!

This class was terrible! DO NOT take this man. There are map quizzes every week, and the tests are ridiculous - 75 questions on two chapters. Lectures are boring and there is no class interaction or discussions. Even though this class is only 100 level, he makes it seem about a 400 level.
Horrible class. Do NOT take this class unless it the last option. Talks about the world still being **** when he is really the **** one. Words test questions unlike anything in the book and is extremely boring to listen to.
Professor Jarrett lectures about the same things you could simply just read out of the book and he teaches the class like children.
Lectures from the book, tests are tircky. Map quizzes are an easy way to boost your grade, if you do them right. HE is very nice and really easy to talk to. He'll answer questions and it's not too hard of a class. Just don't go into it expecting him to teach, he just reads the book.
All he does is read from the book. Class is very boring. Will yell at you for being late or leaving class early.

His class is very boring. His test questions are nothing in your notes and the book.. I don't know where he gets the test questions. Grade consists of 5 map quizzes and 3 exams. If you study for the map quizzes then you will do well on them. Lectures the whole time from the book.

He lectures literally word-for-word from the text book; sometimes he'll tell some interesting stories of his work in the UN. Class attendance is not mandatory as tests are based straight from the book. Also, tests are rather tricky.
He thinks he knows everything. He pushes his opinions on you, but doesn't want to hear yours. Smarts you off if you say something he doesn't agree with. It is a 100 level class, but he makes it ridiculously hard. He is very intelligent, and he knows it, and can really be a jerk. Do not take him if you can avoid it.
When is this man going to retire? He comes across at first as being very knowledgable, smart, and wordly, but then he lets out his ignorance. If you are Christian in any aspect of the religion, he will make fun of you and tell you that the Bible is a bunch of made up stories. He is such an extreme liberal that tries to force his opinions upon you.
He is hard, but if you attend class, pay attention, and actually study it is very possible to get an A. He isn't the nicest teacher and he is very biased. If you are an athelete definitely take him. He has 5 map quizzes, which are kind of fun to do and really aren't bad if you study. He reviews for some of the exams. I got an A
Tests are verbatium from the textbook, and so are his lectures. He loves athletes, mainly football players. Attendance is mandatory and he notices if you are gone.

Definately makes you work for your grade but he's not as bad as everyone is making him sound. As long as you show up for class, listen, and study, you will get a good grade. He doesn't tolerate slackers and he lets you know that you're in college, not in high school. I was expecting to fail the class but i got a B!!! Thanks Professor Jarrett!!!
The class material is pretty point blank if you study well then you will do well. He is extremely liberal and has no tolerance for any opinion, but his own. Overall the class material is easy it is like high school and as long as you come to class and study you will do fine.
Pretty tough class. If you don't do the readings to fullest extent your test grades will suffer. Told good stories and seems to have a good time with the class. Don't take it unless you like the material.
