good class, great prof

Insensitive to student beliefs, thinks he is correct in his views and no others.
Generally, I liked this prof, but found his lecture style tedious as he would end every other sentence with the word What? as if we were to finish the thought. Half the time it was too obvious, the other half impossible to know! Otherwise, A+!!

Very funny guy! He looks like Kenny Rogers and Santa and has Southern charm. Challenging material, but understandable.
This guy is mean as a snake. If you disagree with him in class he will embarrass you and burn you on your grade. CJ majors should avoid this professor at all costs. The worst professor in the university.
What a psycho! If you dare to disagree with him he just blows UP!!! He humiliates people on a daily basis. Total jerk. I don't understand how people can see him as Santa Claus or funny. He has some anger issues.
He kept telling the class that we were too stupid to be in college. He belittles students and won't listen!

OMG he is awful. He doesn't lecture he sits at his desk and reads his notes. He didn't give any As or Bs and flunked half the class. He is the reason I am no longer a CJ major. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!!
Bad teacher, does not help anyone. He is the failure king. He will fail you in a heartbeat. You can't ask questions, or give opinions or he will degrade you in class. Run from this class.
The difficulty level of the class is low, unless you count the difficulty in stomaching the BS and propoganda that forms the basis of sociology. He'll state statistics, then offer his own explanation for why things are the way they are. Don't buy into it.
He was very opinionated and sometimes rude. But overall his class was easy to get through. Yes it was boring, but it wasnt very difficult.

His classes are a little boring, but he is an eccentric old guy. It's kind of funny when he goes off on tangents. I do think that he's rather fair. One must take him with a grain of salt.
I found this class to be very enjoyable. He goes off on a tangent now & then but he admits to that. Quite frankly, I enjoyed them. After all not all classes have to be stuffy & follow a syllabus verbatim. As for his opinions, some I embrace & some I reject. That is what college is about, right?? -MQ
I have had Prof. Koch for two classes. He isn't the easiest but he keeps me entertained. He is also very fair in his grading. There are never any presentations or quizes. Just essays and tests. He's very liberal and opinionated but you can choose to reject or accept his opinions.
Class is fairly easy...you just have to be there. I don't think he was as boring as many other classes. He is opinionated, but that doesn't bother me any...if you don't like what he has to say, then ignore him or leave. Yes, he is tough on those who think they are always right...boo hoo

very objective, kind, understanding. i learned a lot. CRJ majors don't like him because he has morals, and asks deep questions that are to hard for power-hungry police officers to understand. great person, know a lot about the evils of u.s. policy and isn't afraid to tell the class about it.
He hasen't updated his lectures in 20 years. He sits at the desk and reads his lectures in a monotone and dares you to stay awake. This class was a complete waste of time!
loved him. was very opinionated, but i loved the controversy. sometimes kinda boring and monotone, but had funny stories too. attendance isn't required. tests were pretty easy, he'd throw in some freebies too. im taking him again for history of social thought.
He told our class he does not like teaching, and does not like his colleagues. Get out the game, Cook.
AVOID THIS PROFESSOR AT ALL COSTS!!! He can't teach, he won't help students with problems, and he has a terrible temper. Most CRJ students are afraid of him.
Trust me, he's a jerk. Hates police, says people in jail are there because police were mean to them. Insanely liberal views but don't express your views because that'll make him hate you. i dropped after the third class, he is so boring i had to drop cuz i snore loudly when i sleep. oh his class got like 3 books!
Terrible professor, his classes may as well be a stats class, all he does is read dates and stats expecting you to remember them all. He goes off on so many rabbit trails its pathetic, dont attend class, its a waste. He is terrible , just quit koch.
This is a difficult class to take, Koch is a liberal extremist and will test your personal beliefs to no end. He uses the books and makes you read more than you ever wanted to. He's a good teacher, you just have to understand his style and DO NOT let his debates bother you.
Once you get used to his way of teaching, the class is very easy. He tends to ask some odd questions on the exams. But as long as you read the books assigned for the preceding exam, you will be fine. I got a C on the first exam because I was caught off guard by some of the questions. He is so funny and this was my favorite class but make sure you listen to EVERYTHING he says in lectures.
GREAT!! You must take at least one class with this man. He is very passionate in what he teaches and even though he will flip your world upside down with his views, it makes one think on a level that most of us are too lazy to climb to. He is a utopian socialist! Just try him.

Take good notes and read up on the theories outlined in the book! If you can't learn something valuable from this man, you don't have an appreciation for truth. Although- he does have a point: the more knowledge you have about the world, the more depressed you may become ;)
Horrible teacher. Gets on tangets and doesn't really care what other people say. He's test are ridiculously hard, you have to know every single thing he said to even do decent in the class. i would never recommend him to anyone.

I went to his office for help with the class and he told me I was too stupid to be in college and that I should drop out immediately. When I started to cry he said he had no time to deal with crybaby a**holes and threatened to call the campus police. If you show up expecting an easy grade you have come to the wrong professor. If you want to learn something that you didn't know before, than you have the right guy, the man is a fountain of information. Show up to every class, take notes, do the reading assignments and study the notes, you will get a good grade, it's that simple.
The worst professor I definitely have ever had. He needs to give up teaching because he has no idea how to effectively engage and listen to students when they have useful input. Good luck studying for his tests, could be anything from the readings. Avoid at all cost! One day he walked out of class and had a fit, too.
Sociology of Families...hardest class i have ever took in my history. The test dont dhow up seriously you better know the book like the back of your head. the test is on the book so remember all 3 whole books. also u read 5 chapters a week. The lectures are hard to understand get you a voice recorder. the class wasn't beneficial at all!
Read the chapter summaries and take good notes in class. Its really that simple. Koch is one of the best sociology teachers at the school.
Koch is friendly to you if you are to him. <br> He is really hard to hear. I sit up front and have a hard time hearing him. Lots of books to read. Must attend class in order to pass the tests- the questions are on the discussions.

Really interesting guy, slightly misunderstood as a professor. As long as you go to class semi-regularly and know the gist of the assigned books you'll do fine, just don't give up. He's a very fair professor.
Fantastic Professor. Dr. Koch is a passionate teacher who instilled in me a love of learning. We didn't have shared political views by any stretch of the imagination but I found him to be a caring and compassionate human being with a deep respect for his fellow person. I am a better, more enlightened person for having been in his class.
I have never felt so degraded throughout my college years. This professor is extremely rude and I honestly think he doesn't care about his students.I've asked for help and clarification and I'm referred back to a syllabus that OBVIOUSLY doesn't have the info I'm looking for. If he doesn't like an opinion in your essay, be prepared to fail.
VERY CLOSE MINDED. He would deliberately make controversial comments to get people upset and then tell them to be quiet. I would sometimes ask him to repeat himself because he talks so fast and he would respond rather rudely and made me feel like I stupid even though I was one of his best students. By far the worst class I have ever taken.
Awesome Professor!! Would recommend this Professor, he gave me some insight and furthered my knowledge in sociology. I have thought of changing majors after this one class.

He does not want to help. If you ask when a test or final is..he wont tell you if you didnt hear the first time. I felt like all he did was ramble about stuff, not teach the material.
I found this class this past semester, FASCINATING. This professor doesn't mess around when it comes to teaching. He is there to teach you not only the material, but to also think. I really enjoy going to his class, and I hardly ever miss. If you actually pay attention, take notes, and read the summaries he is WONDERFUL!!!
The first couple of classes I thought that I would enjoy this class but he makes it pretty difficult. He is rather humorous to listen to but when test time comes I felt very unprepared. Test questions are worded SO lengthy and confusing, no main points, all of them refer to his stories that he tells in class. Very interesting
He was not helpful at all! I even went to his office for help and he looked at me like I was stupid. His tests are pretty much all from his lectures and the questions on the test are lengthy and do not make sense! I hated this class, DO NOT TAKE IT!
He does NOT utilize Bb or really a syllabus. MUST attend class to get assignments. I missed class once because of the weather, did not know an assignment was passed out - went to ask him about it. This is the FIRST time I've ever talked to him, and he did not answer my question on the assignment - he instead told me to DROP THE COURSE! ???????? :`[
Professor Koch is not as bad as people are making him sound. If you go to class regularly and actually listen to his lectures the tests are a breeze. He gives an extra credit question worth ten points on every test. He's one of the nicest professors I've had yet. He makes the class very interesting and I also found him funny at times.
Bad class, bad professor.
Horrible... Asks know what I'm saying every 10 seconds in the middle of finishing the sentence. Goes off telling random stories that have no relation to what he's talking about. No power points, no list of assignments or when they're due. Good luck finding out what all the assignments consists of.
He is very knowledgeable, approachable and very interesting. I attended every lecture looking forward to hearing him speak.

Koch is the best professor I have ever had. If you show up to lectures and do the readings you will pass his class. If you miss a class, you're missing out on a good lecture and a few test questions.
I was told that Larry was a tough professor and unclear, but I did not find that to be true. His lectures are long but if you listen you will pass. I really enjoyed this class.
He talks a lot! the tests are hard but he gives a bunch of extra credit and you don't have to work for it, he just says I'll add ten points for this or that! He assigns 3 or 4 books but you don't have to read the whole thing for his 'pop quizzes' the questions he asks are pretty general.
Just bad
This man actually said that if you come from an abusive household, you will BE an abusive person. I questioned this - saying "aren't there exceptions?" and he said, 'No - only in movies." I walked out - and never returned.
