This class was a tough one for me. Tips: have this prof. proof read your papers before you turn them in. I failed to get an A in this class because my ability to write clearly did not meet his high standards. Nice teacher, very straight forward.
Dr. Kodosky is a good teacher, but watch out for the writing assignments!
Worst teacher ever! Don't ever take him. He is very rude and he makes you feel like your worthless.
I got an A but professor Kodowsky is extremely arrogant, unflexible, rude, unapproachable, unhelpful and he possesess ZERO social skills. He is the opposite of everything that a good teacher should be. He needs to go back to school.
I agree with the post below He is an ass and the only reason I passed the class is because 70% of the class ahad under a 75% in the class and he had to curve the grade in order to keep the school happy. Oh and he is full of himself as well
Strait forward, but difficult when it comes to writing assignments. Go to office hours with your papers before you hand them in. Good grades in this class come with work and commitment.

This instructor is tough. Show up for class, take good notes and make sure he proof reads your reports before you submit them. Expect to work hard, thats what college is about!!! I learned alot.
This Prof is very rude, unhelpful, boring, extremely full of himself, and has no people skills. He is the worst teacher I have ever had. Stay away at all costs.

Don't take his class. He has a lot knowlegde, so he should focus on research, but he is not a good teacher. Even if he proofreads your papers, he still is going to correct after himslef. It is difficult to figure out what his expectations are.
This intro class seemed like a 500 course. It is very difficult. Kodosky is very knowlegable but asumes you should already know the information. if your a good writer expect your papers to get distroyed! you will never get a 20/20 no matter what.
If you want your GPA to suffer take this class, he takes assignments and labs too seriously and grades as if it were an English course. If your not good at English THIS CLASS ISNT FOR YOU!!!

Not easy A, but not difficult. As long as you SHOW UP FOR CLASS and TAKE NOTES you'll do fine. He is VERY helpful. He expects you to know what he's talked about in class. Have trouble? Talk to him and he'll walk you through. Good Prof. if you want to
Not introductory, class avg was a 53 near the end of the semester after more than half of the class had dropped. Very Rude and full of himself.
Sure, the class is going to be hard if you don't show up or take notes... welcome to college, idiots. Dr. Kodosky is great, really, he is. Probably one of the best profs I've had in my college career.
Avoid
The extra credit question on how we studied for the test was worth 4 points. Everyone i talked to go 2 points, he grades everything way too hard.
Show up on time. Whatever you do dont miss a lecture. Pay attention do your best. Study at least a good week before an exam and you should come out with a B. You must study really hard!
Dr. Kodosky is tough, but fair. He expects you to work hard and EARN your grade. GROW UP! This is college! If you don't have to work hard and THINK, then why are you in college in the first place?? I met with him almost every day for help and he was incredibly kind and considerate. Got a 4.0.
A great guy. Tough, but very fair. Take this class if you want to LEARN something.
TERRIBLE.... Dont EVER Take this teacher. He is a nice guy, but VERY boring. If you want to fail take this class.

AVOID THIS CLASS. I am a transfer student that attends MSU normally. Kodosky is a nice guy in person and he really just wants you to understand geology. When it comes to geology and grading its not cool. I was excited to take this class but it was just too hard. I just passed with a C & my gpa is a 3.7 at state. GOOD LUCK with this class
Wow, I would avoid taking him for anything! True he does seem like a nice guy, but if you aren't "a perfect student" (studying 40hrs a week) he looks down on you. His tests are VERY hard and the labs suck too. I am an A/B student and I am STRUGGLING to get a 70% just to pass. So if your looking for an easy lab science...think again
Prof. is very hard, but he really wants you to understand the material. Even though there is a study guide, tests are very hard, and graded very hard. There is a curve at least though, but it is usually only a couple of percentage points, if at all.
Yes, this professor IS very hard, some of you say hes nice, i dont think so, i missed one class and he flipped at me! Its sad that we have to fail such an easy class, i studied pretty fairly and only got 40s! and i think the people doing well got as high as 70s on their tests. Its an interesting class but if you're gonna have him, forget it!
This is a great teacher who actually knows his subject intimately. I'm pulling low to mid 90's on my tests without studying at all, so I have little sympathy. What this, more likely, demonstrates is how far out of touch this culture is with the sciences.
Dr. Kodosky is a very smart guy. His teaching method contains little to no humor. Unless you LOVE geology, I would suggest to you not to take his course. It is very difficult. Our class average was 69%. I will live a happy life never having to judge a rock's texture or habit again. BEWARE!
This prof. is an extremely tough one. He grades everything way too hard, and has a condecsending attitude when you ask him for help, which can also be misunderstood as his eagerness for you to understand the material. He does know his stuff, but you end up learning the material out of fear from failing, not from his guidance.
Avoid!
He knows his stuff VERY well and does convey the information OK. You must study notes and ask the RIGHT questions. I think he tries too hard to use the more complex language of english. The field trip was very eye-openning but you must willing to learn. I ended up with an A, which messed the average of 65%. Grades too roughly.
he's such a bad teacher that years later i still hate him, he left me in the parking lot at the field trip because i didnt have my birth certificate to go to canada- knowing that i dont have a car!!! which resulted in my failre of the class >:/ he should be REMOVED FROM THE FACULTY at OCC and go back to whatever rock he crawled out from.
This profeesor knows his stuff, but he is the most difficult person to deal with. He is very unfair in his grading and biased toward people who see and say things from his point of view. I would not recommend this "guy" to any student!
Dr. Kodosky is the BEST professor at OCC. If you got a bad grade, felt he was too tough on you, or that he expected too much: GROW UP! It's college!! You're there to learn and be CHALLENGED! Trust me, he's doing you a favor by having high expectations--at least you know you'll learn something and get your money's worth. Dr. K. does care!
excellent
Difficult instructor, all assignments and tests have Q's with subjective answers. Nobody gets 100% on anything. Went into this class with 58 credits & a 4.0, just hoping to end up with a C in this one. He is very proud that 1 out of every 3 of his classes don't average a C, which is when he uses a curve. AVOID if you like your GPA.
great class. hard, but worth the effort.
He had a huge EGO problem, and favors people. (boys) DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HIM!!!
I enjoyed learning the material. I did not enjoy all the work needed to get a decent grade. I feel bad for the people trying to work and go to school. I think this class would be better if he didn't grade so hard and reduced the work load. He grades you down on all writing questions. Half the class dropped and I am worried if I got over a 70%.
Geo-Fall07. Class was indepth and he does expect you to absorb what he teaches. I transferred to Madonna U. as a History major after taking his class. Although Geology doen't have much to do with History, I feel that I'm more prepared and able to disseminate information due to taking his class. These are all important tools for any degree program.
Great! Work hard, show up for class, study.
The perfect professor, always there for students, really wants to teach the material! Funny, dry sense of humor, can be sharp at times but only to fools.
Honestly, I wouldn't recommend this professor. He is very knowledgeable but I don't think his teaching style is effective at all- four hours of power points in the dark. Very difficult grader and somewhat condescending. Your GPA will drop and you will probably leave class very frustrated.
He is accessible and willing to help, but those looking for an easy class may find him aloof or arrogant, and will not do well. He wants students to think for themselves, and draw conclusions based on the info provided, and is not looking just for regurgitation of facts. Essays on labs and tests are graded very precisely. Field trip is excellent.
Horrible teacher. Rude, cocky, enjoys watchin students struggle. Tests are very hard no matter how many weeks you study in advance. He thinks he is teaching at Harvard....it's a community college for goodness sakes
Extremely difficult class the same goes for the prof. though I am convinced he's highly intelligent he does not relate well to students and his methods of teaching certainly do not reach every student. Half the class dropped.
Do not take geology 1520 with this teacher. Not to be mean, but he is soooooooooo boring. He puts me to sleep everyday. his lectures are long and he talks upto the end of class. All we do is get handouts of power point presentations and listen to him all hour. Its nonsense seriously. All he talks about is rocks, rocks, rocks. don't take this class.
sorry i meant to say Geology 1530 not 1520.
DO NOT TAKE THIS GUY! I think he forgets that he is not the only class students take. He goes back on his word a lot. He makes you do extra work that he says is "required". This class will bring down your GPA. Take a different teacher if you are interested in Geology cause sorry to say buthe will make you hate it. So sad!
Very demanding class that requires more time than most 4 credit hour classes. In a 16wk semester we met for 80hrs. He uses an extremely educated vocabulary that leaves many junior college students behind.
This was one of the hardest classes I have ever taken. I was so scared that I wouldn't even pass it and I barely passed with a C+. Do not take this class for a gen ed requirment because all of his tests are difficult and the he pulls out random essay questions that he never covered So take some other science class if you dont want ur gpa to go down
This guy really knows his stuff, you just need to be prepared. If you are there and putting effort forth he will work with you to understand the material. You just need to be ready to learn.
Heed the warnings!! This guy is awful! I am not even halfway through the class yet and I am almost positive I will have to withdraw! He is unflexible and rude and very unapproachable. He will make you feel worthless and like he is so much better than everyone; he thinks his lectures are the key to sucess-not just in his class, but life. ARROGANT
I ended up dropping the class because I realized it was going to slaughter my GPA. Very boring, and the class is harder than it needs to be, considering the material that is covered.
Just about half way through the class and I'm pretty sure this guy reads a dictionary before he comes to class, sadly he needs to wake up from his perfect world of rocks and realize this is a community college and not everyone is going to be picking up rocks from the street and classifying them, horrible class
Great and positively challenging class. Since collage IS SUPPOSED TO BE place where we suppose to LEARN, Dr. Kodosky is doing great job implementing this principle
To the person who said "collage" clearly you are an idiot just like Kodosky. Your literacy skills are an epic FAIL.
i counted and he said my name 20 times per class without asking a question. i would never take a class with this teacher again
Prior to taking this class i found college life to be banal/uningageing, due to the picular syndrome that i have. This syndrome resultied in my inclination of left hemisphere intensive thinking, thus normal libreal art classes make me become bored. Mr. Kordosky's class was, in opinuion, very well developed and exacuted; caused me to science major.
Prior to taking this class i found college life to be banal/ un-engaging, due to the peculiar syndrome that i have. My syndrome explains left hemisphere intensive thinking. Normal liberal art classes make me bored. Mr. Kordosky's class was, in my opinion, very well developed and executed; it has caused me to science major.
RUDE! Two students have commitments (work) that causes them to be late or have to leave early. He told both of them (one in front of the entire class) that they need to assess their priorities! SERIOUSLY? In this economy he thinks his class is more important than their job? He teaches this class like it is a Graduate level science class.
Are you kidding me! I should have read these comments before taking him for this course! This guy is so full of himself! Mr. Kodosky, you aren't teaching at Harvard, get a grip on reality! Unfortunately he isn't going anywhere. So since you are reading this, take a different course to meet the requirement or find another instructor.
Tough grader - is looking for very specific answers in his lab. While he is very knowledgeable about his subject area, he tends to go above and beyond what should be covered in an intro class and seems to resent that his students are not all science majors. We've already lost 1/3 of the class at the halfway point.
K so I read these comments before taking this class, ha, did I fool myself or what!! He thinks hes teaching all science majors, grades very strict and looks down upon you. I ended up dropping this class and so did half of the class. He may have 4-5 other students still in there.
Awesome instructor, knows his stuff & is always willing to help out or open the lab if you need extra time. If you are looking for an easy A, take someone else! I can't believe some are complaining about the level of education you are getting here! If you put in the time you will be rewarded. You may actually learn something! OMG what a tragedy!
I took his class last fall and enjoyed it. Tough grader on essay questions but gives extra credit questions on every test. If you do the work to the best of your abilities you will do well, but this is not an easy A. To the others that seem to not like him, this is college, grow up, he is there to teach not babysit.
oh my goodness!! i went into ths class eager to learn about geology, but everything was just so hard it took all the fun out of it. he grades really hard too which ended up really disouraging me all this keeping in mind it was supposed to be an introductory class
To put simply: A terrible teacher. He is a smart guy when it comes to the subject, but has absolutely no skill at teaching. He claims to be approachable, but is condescending if you actually ask him a simple question. He is disrespectful to his students. He treats pupils as if they were in high school rather than in college. Very bad experience.
Plain and Simple: If you don't like monotoned professors don't take him. He grades on a curve and its hard to do well in his class. He is helpful in helping you understand the material, but if you have hard time understanding science, take it with another professor at all possible. Nice teacher but just boring to teach and listen too.
He is very strict and very dry. He shows no mercy to those who misses a class and does not take into account that a lot of students need more than slides and lectures to help them understand. I had to turn to Youtube to get the understanding that I needed with the visuals. Dr. K you need to learn how to teach according to indivdual learning style
I had to take this course as a gen ed. He basically ended up making me feel very discouraged in every way possible. I worked very hard and ended the class worse than I thought I would. I'm not saying classes should be an easy A, but they should at least not make you feel worthless! He is not helpful and is a tough grader. Not recommended.
Professor Kodosky is very dry and monotone. but if I had a question I was able to get a answer and was very direct and honest. Although he's not the most entertaining professor I would take him again because i know how he grades and the qaulity of work he expects from his students.
Simply awful. I was highly eagered to take this class because I was interested in learning about organics and elements of the Earth. He did take into consideration that it was an Introductory class. He graded as if he were teaching a Graduate class. Act as if he was irritated when approached with concerns or problems.
Although extremely knowledgeable needs to modify his teaching techniques, he does four hour powrpoint lecture and mandatory assignments each night. He is a tough grader but can't hold interest enough to learn, I didn't walk away from the class with anything new, he is dry and monotone and I LOVE SCIENCE! He took a fascinating subject and ruined it.
WARNING: Do NOT take this class. He grades writing and whatever you write will never be up to his standards. This class was the worst experience of my life.
WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD. he is very boring and monotone. he has absolutely no feelings or expressions when he talks. he will grade you to the exact decimal on the stupidest stuff. do not take him or any of his classes!
In for 3 wks ready to drop. You cant ask questions w/o being criticized. He expects you to study for his class like its a part-time job(8 hrs/day)I'm part of the PTK honors society, 4.0 GPA he called me "irresponsible" in front of the class for asking a question about the test.Worst teacher I've ever had.Wish I would have read these before...
He is the worst teacher i have ever had. Hes extremely disrespectful. He gets annoyed if you ask a question and will correct your spelling/grammar and mark you down on assignments for these mistakes. He doesn't explain the material well. He only does power points for learning tools. His test reviews are nothing like exams.
He's blatantly rude and very disrespectful. He'll mark you down for spelling/ grammar mistakes when his own grammar skills are pretty poor. He'll pretty much call you an idiot to your face. The way he teaches makes absolutely no sense and makes easy things hard to learn. Don't take this class.
Worst teacher I've ever had! He's rude, will mark you down on grammar, and will never believe he's a bad teacher. Don't take the class, huge chance you'll fail, unless you read the chaper twice every single day. The teaching techniques are out dated, un clear, and he says students names for no reason to see if they're paying attention.
Absolutely horrible. I warn everyone I know who will be taking a science class to avoid him. I'm an honor roll student and received a C. I think he has a personality disorder which he needs to address immediately.
Perfect attendance is mandatory!!! He grades so hard!! I am a straight A student... that is until I had his class. Pay close attention and stay for the entire class period. I recommend taking a voice recorder to class! I studied so hard for this class and still ended up with a C.
When I signed up for Geology I was very excited for the course because I am very passionate on the subject. I have never been more disgusted with someone in the teaching profession. Dr. Kodosky was beyond rude, pretentious, and impossible. I attended every class, fieldtrip, and actively studied for labs and tests only to recieve an F. DO NOT TAKE!
Going into wk 4 & just came home & dropped the class after being handed back a HW asgnment. I shouldve listened to the rates on here prior to taking class. Thought how bad could it really be?? UNTIL I received 2 low scores of D-'s on his 2 asgnments. He marks every possible thing WRONG!! -.7 here, -.1 there. DO NOT TAKE CLASS! IT IS MISERABLE!!!!
Worst teacher I have had by far! been taking classes since high school (7years) and he is by far the hardest and most boring teacher there is. Doesn't teacher as if it was entry level. expects as if you're not taking other classes or working to put all time into studying for class. Im going to be happy if i pass! Good Luck if your taking his class!
Great Teacher
Allow me to break it down for you: If you are focused through four-hour lectures and are capable of answering questions on the material on the spot, you won't have an anxiety attack every time you come to class. He is not easy, but if you're reading these reviews, you already know that. I got an A and I earned the crap out of it. I learned SO MUCH!
He is a really tough grader, your assignments have to be almost perfect if you want to get an A. His tests are difficult but he knows what he's talking about. If you ask questions he will help you, you just have to want to learn and show your trying. He really wants you to strive to make your work the best you can instead of coasting through
If you begin to think that anyone who has written a good review about this man might be right, your in a world of shock. He IS the biggest jerk, he belittles you when you ask questions, he thinks he's the greatest person in the world because he knows more about rocks than you do. You'll spend countless hours studying for this class.
Let me put it simply, this class was so terrible that I literally cried tears of joy the day it ended. I've never been so happy to leave a class before in my life!! NEVER take a class with him. You will regret it for the entire semester. I PROMISE.
I have the utmost respect for him because of his prestigious scientific background but when it comes to teacher especially with grading he reminds me crappy girlfriend. no matter how much you do or how much effort you put in you always find something to mark down. good thing is you will learn a lot and you will change your perspective on science
certainly not a breeze tough grader on labs and test you have to be thorough. Studied 5 to 10 hours for each test. If you thoroughly go through study guide and practice test, the test will be cake. People complain about how tough he is, but college science classes are like that. power point avail online has 98% everything needed for test.
He isn't a bad teacher, but the class is extremely difficult for an entry level course. He doesn't put up with any BS which I kind of like. My biggest complaints are this class is death by powerpoint, the labs are unclear and makes you feel like you are spending a lot of time guessing, and he grades way too hard for this level of course.
Nice professor, but be forewarned, you will be marked down for EVERYTHING. There will ALWAYS be something inherently flawed with your work, even if he goes over it with you before you turn it in. Tests are very difficult, you most likely will be hard pressed to finish it before 90 minutes is up. Homework assignments on topics not covered.
Loved having Mr. Kodosky!
Learnt SO much from Dr. Kodosky's classes. He's a very good teacher and explains things in an easy to understand manner. He's very helpful. Sure, he's a tough grader so it won't be an easy class. A few tips for success - pay attention in the class, attend all the classes , and focus on the lecture notes while preparing for the exams.
He is a very tough grader. He will call you out in lecture if you are not paying attention so DO NOT come tired. The tests are brutally hard if you don't put in the effort to study. Overall, if you are really into this kind of stuff you should take the class. If not, find something else.
Hardest class I have ever taken in my 7 years of college. Do not take this class if you don't love science. It was so brutal. I would study my butt off and get a D. I wouldn't say he is a great teacher. This is no entry level class the way he teaches and grades. He will take points off of everything and anything you do (tests, homework, labs).
WORST CLASS EVER!! Every class was the full 4 hours long of nothing but Power Point Lectures. You will learn NOTHING. It will be the WORST 15 weeks ever. After reading the review I said no way it could be that bad. Please LISTEN it's the Worst class ever!
Tests are very hard and labs are graded very hard. Not much room to make up extra easy points too bost your grade. Wouldn't take one of his classes again.
Dr. Kodosky's class is easy if you put the work into it. He's very knowledgeable and willing to help if you ask for it. There were a lot of labs, lots and lots of lectures, and the tests are non-scantron. He gives out study guides before hand and gives feedback on tests. It's a little dry but he really does want to see you pass its just up to you.
I'm only a few weeks into Dr. Kodosky's class. No I wasn't expecting it to be an easy A, but this guy is far too critical on every aspect of instruction. The class has "intro to" right in the name. He uses the excuse that this course is transferrable so he has to be extra difficult on grading everything. Really dry teaching method and lectures too
attendance is mandatory, but lectures straight off the packet. does not teach at all. classes are a bore and you will loose interest within the second you walk in the door. this professor is a tough grader and you will not get over an 85% on anything.
I am currently on week 5 of his intro to science class. I can say with certainty that this is, indubitably, the worse professor to ever step foot on an OCC campus. Even if you get 100% of the answers correct, if he doesn't like how you wrote it, you will get at most a 75%. Teaches material in the driest, most boring manner ever. Heed my advice.
I wish I could drop this course. I've never had a complaint about a professor at OCC before, but Dr. Kodosky is the absolute worst. The way he grades essentially sets you up for failure, sent out an email after the first class saying how "every stud failed the homework assignment." Absolutely unrealistic and unhelpful. 0/10 do not recommend.
He explains everything thoroughly & gives print outs of the power points to follow. He takes off for everything though, even when he helps you formulate your answers for labs. I don't think anyone in my class got an A, I would say in order to pass his class you need to record the lectures because a lot of test questions are pulled from lectures
This is a 4hr lecture class with 1 10-minute break. There are inclass assignments but never know what day it is. Bought a book and read it but it was useless, gives power points with all the information. Very tough grader, never can get a 100% because he doesn't like your words or not descriptive enough. 67% class average. Had to give curve.
Heed the warnings, spare yourself and your GPA. As a student on the Dean's List, I struggled endlessly with this professor and course. When approached for help he is unwilling, snarky and still marks down answers he went over with you. It is absolutely impossible to succeed with Dr. Kodosky. He is intelligent and qualified, but awful at teaching.
Dr. Kodosky is horrible. I am a straight A student and I received a C. I generally take 19 credits a semester without a problem, but this class threw me through a loop. I worked harder in this class than any other, and my results were extremely unsatisfying. Dr. Kodosky does not give - or + in his grading system either, so it really screws your GPA
I dreaded this class every week for 15 weeks. It was a four hour class, and he literally lectured for four hours, except on the days when he gave out an in class assignment 15 minutes before class ended, so we would literally be there an extra 15-20 minutes doing the assignment. He was very unapproachable, and had unrealistic methods of grading.
I'm sad to see here so many poor reviews of Dr. Kodoky. Also remember the views here are represented by a 53 Y/O man with a learning impediment. For me, on average, 26 hours/week study time for this class to maintain a B average. He is good teacher but you MUST show effort. Difficult but fair. I would take other classes taught by him.
This class was really fun. The lectures are very thorough and cover all that is on the tests. Labs were very interesting and enlightening. I believe that a lot of people who complain also don't know how to complete a real course with high expectations. We had some complainers but those who did the work and participated did well.
In my 2 years in college, this professor is the worst I've ever had. His grading is ridiculous, he will find something to mark you down on, even .2 is worth it to him. He freaks out when he sees cell phones, he told a student he would call public safety if he did't put it away. He's professional, but rude. Save your money & time for another class!!
Dr. Kodosky is a smart individual. He will mark you down on EVERYTHING. I'm not saying I don't like him, but he is way too harsh and dry. He is a nice guy, but you will absolutely not get a one hundred percent on almost anything. I got one in the entire semester. These are the type of assignments that are supposed to be grade boosters but no.
This professor was rude, condescending, and judgmental. He believes his approach will motivate students but it comes off as superior and elitist. The professor needs to work on his people skills and learn to engage his students rather than alienate them. He believes his 20 plus years of passion for the subject would be auto transferred to all.
The hardest professor I have ever had. Of this is not your major DO NOT TAKE IT. he's a nice guy, and clearly knows what he's talking about, but very clearly does not understand the difference between how an intro class is taught and how a graduate course is taught. Completely unreasonable, and there is no tutor to help you on the campus.
Absolute worst class & teacher I've had. I'm interested in science and was excited to learn. I was so wrong. The topics he talks about are interesting, but he expects you to come in class already knowing the things you're in class to learn. He makes fun of questions, and goes over so many topics you don't know what to study for. Do. Not. Take.
I did not enjoy his class as much as I thought I would have. He's a nice guy, also very intelligent and knows his stuff, but he seemed a bit critical, he expects people to know everything about Geology the first day of the class, he can be harsh, and I don't like how he grades tests and group assignments in class.
Here's the basics: Grades hard, expects a lot. Expects you are a Geologist, even for intro courses. doesn't give breaks through class, even to the very last sec. We had more than 30 complaint forms against him; the College doesn't care. Take it if you have 1 or 2 other classes nothing else. Very very hard intro course, even for Gen Ed. Don't take.
I am in my 4th week of taking his class and the posts on here are correct. I took this class because I needed another science in a different discipline and it was my only option for my last semester at OCC. He is THE WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD!!! DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!! Even if you have to wait another semester to graduate!!!
This is the worst professor I have ever had. His lectures are long, boring, & full of information that is irrelevant to the course. The homework/group projects are also tedious & useless. He is a terrible teacher & an unnecessarily hard grader. The study guides are ridiculous - 85 review questions for an exam with 28 questions. This is not a joke.
Yeah, Professor Kodosky is a hard professor. However, he is nice, responds to emails, and wants to teach people that wanna learn. The study guides are a lot. He doesn't take attendance as grade, but he does in-class exercises that are worth being there for. I would definitely not take him If I read these first, but if u have to, be ready fr
Mr. Kodosky seems like a nice, knowledgeable teacher who knows his stuff about Geology, but his class is not easy at all to take. I have taken this class twice and failed his class once again. I've done tutoring, gone to the SI Sessions, study the right material, and took down as much notes in the class, but still failed.
HORRIBLE TEACHER!!!
Kodosky is easily the worst professor I have had. He is a very hard grader, he will take 0.2 points off of every question because he doesn't like how you worded your answer, even if the answer is right. He will also take points off of answers he helped you with. He had to give a 10% curve because the class average was so low. Wouldn't recommend.
Worst professor and class i've ever taken. DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASSES FROM THIS PROFESSOR. He looks for reasons to mark students down on homework, and enjoys making fun of students in class for asking questions. Every lecture his voice would put half the class to sleep! DO NOT I REPEAT ; DO. NOT. TAKE. HIS. CLASS.
This teacher is the worst thing since the extinction of the dinosaurs. Ive never in my life met a teacher who truly treats people like they are less then people. At some point this teacher realized that Im his mind that people dont matter. I think he is mad he doesnt teach at a university. This guys goal is to hinder your life not help it .
While I enjoyed his system of lectures Wednesday and Friday with a classroom exercise Friday and no homework, he is potentially the worst professor I have ever had. I was the third highest grade in my class with a C and he showed us the grades of the class before us and none of the received A's. Do not take the class it is not worth it.
I have never had a professor who cared so little for his students and valued their time so little.
He was a good instructor. LOTS of lectures and talking time. LOTS of papers. I hated how he put answers in the tests that we never discussed. And I hated how he marked me down for a different word choice. I wrote more area and he marked me down one point and said more uniformly which literally means the same thing. He is an EXTREMLY Hard grader
the man definitely knows what hes talking about & occasionally seems kind. unfortunately, he seems to take general education classes as serious as master level classes. he will not show sympathy if you were ill (or even if a family member passes.) he will change your wording to his own & mark you down for it. even a counselor said dont take him.
I will try and start with some pros of this class. He is very organized and you can tell he puts a lot of time into his teaching . However, there are alot of cons in my opinion. He grades incredibly hard for an intro class. You will get marked down for every little thing. He came off as a bit condescending and unapproachable to me.
His philosophy is that the Earth is dynamic, yet his teaching style is overwhelmingly static. He believes there is only one way to do things, and as a scientist he should know better. He dictates the way you learn, whether that be your note taking or wording in an assignment. It is incredibly frustrating to have your grade in his hands.
I have never been a student to an educator more rigid, austere, or condescending. I believe it is very sad to see an instructor, who we assume is passionate about what they're teaching, be so uninspiring to newcomers of science. Administering a poor grade due to his distaste over phrasing is not admirable in my book, so I give Kodosky a fat F.
Never have I been put more off by a professor than this guy. For a general ed science class, kodosky made it a nightmare. Class avg. was a 64%. He took points off for grammatical errors, and for answers not phrased the way he liked it. He is passionate in his work but most definitely in the wrong field. Save your GPA and the headaches.
Be ready to spend 20 hours a week studying and doing homework only to fail everything you turn in for minor mistakes.
I did not take these reviews of him seriously and ended up taking his class anyway. HUGE MISTAKE. LISTEN TO THESE REVIEWS!! I am mostly an A student, but am struggling in his class. Right now our class average is a 62%!! The online lectures are brutal. He takes points off of everything, and wrote a passive aggressive comment on one of my papers.
Dann, my mans Dr. K really puts your submissions through the grinder. Usually takes points off of answers for not including something that you weren't specified to include. Dr., if you're reading, please be more specific about what kind of details you're looking for, or else don't punish us for not reading your mind.
WORST PROFESSOR EVER. he makes you feel so stupid when you ask a question and likes to embarrass you publicly if you don't know the answer. extremely tough grader. he will take points off if you missed a word or he simply doesn't like the way you worded your answer. i dropped the class because he embarrassed me in front of 59 other students.
This class was held remotely It is terrible The lecture videos posted online are well over 4 hours long (4 ct cls). All homework assignments can only be done by watching the videos The class format on D2L is unreasonable Test are easy but format is dumb DO NOT TAKE IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO SIT IN FRONT OF COMPUTER FOR 8 HOURS PER WEEK FOR THIS CLASS
If you have the option to not take a class taught by Kodosky, don't. This class was an introductory science course but was treated and graded more like a master's class. You'll get marked down on your assignments for the slightest things and will get shown no mercy or sympathy The only good thing about this class was that zoom meetings are optional
Took online class. 4 exams, 90 minutes each, HARD if you study. Practice exams & questions with each. Lab every week. Toughest grader I've ever experienced. Read every chapter of very long/boring textbook. Allowed us to drop lowest of first 3 exams. Roughly 3 hour lecture each week, very heavy. Genuine dude, but way too difficult for an intro class
This course is taught hard, and I agree with a lot of the other reviews on course load and grading scrutiny. However, he communicates thoroughly and frequently in detailed emails, including debriefing our class test scores. Office hours were offered every day of the week, he genuinely could explain the answer to about any question I could think of.
He is a great communicator, makes great explanations, but unfortunately I will have to drop this class because he makes it so difficult, that I dont see other option. Gave me zero for homework that I have done, but apparently he did not like it. Also, in my test I got 49, even after studying days prior the test. Hardest grader teacher I ever had.
Very detailed in grading. Does not understand remote education. Threatening in emails. Do not select this instructor.
Please spare your mental state for this class. No materials where given for this class besides a text book, we dont have a zoom class setting , he only emails a Skype link for office hours. Dr. Kodosky is very condescending, awful teacher , and has no intentions of trying to help students that are struggling.
