Not for the faint of heart! If you appreciate sarcastic humor, random intellectual tidbits, and a teacher that knows what he is doing, he's your man. His tests are harder than many, but only apathetic losers or the naive would be discouraged.

He has a great sense of humor.His tests are hard but he grades with fairness.If you're looking to get by without doing work look for another teacher.

Best math teacher i've ever had. Explains concepts very well and answers all your questions you have from the hw. His tests are a bit tricky, but he prepares you for them. He has a humorous personality to bring to the class when it gets a little boring :)

LOVE him! Took his class during winter sess. A lot of work, but he makes it fun. Very clear and helpful-loves to see people do well. He is fair, and makes an effort to get to know his students. The best math prof you'll ever have; he's adorable.

He is an excellent teacher that actually makes math interesting and keeps class fun. His tests are tough and you'll need to study hard, but the effort is well worth it if you are taking higher level math next.

Great teacher! Very entertaining in addition to educational. Teaches you a bunch of non-math-related stuff in as well as the course material. Highly recommended (but hard...you have to work).

Cool teacher. NOT EASY tests(than again it is calculus), get to class 5 minutes early he loves giving quizes at 6:45 a.m. He lectures very well for 20-30 minutes and goes over the homework. If not a math prof. he could make money in stand up comedy.

He lacks explaining. I dont recomend taking him unless you are good in math. He is funny and has fun classes, but he hardly lecrtures and has difficult tests. Go to his office hours it will help out extremely, he will try to help you as best as he can

most helpful teacher at gcc. he goes over every single hw problem that a student has a question on. takes his time explaining so everyone understands. u earn points throughout the semester so ur grade isnt only on the last two weeks. plus, he drops one test...highly recommend

Excellent teacher, and is very upbeat and funny. Goes over many homework problems and tries to help students out a lot. Tests are easy, quizzes are problems straight out of the book. Tests and quizzes can be dropped.

Don't take this guy if you are not a "math person", he's annoying, hard, and thinks he's God's gift. In reality, he's a teacher at the prestigous Glendale Community College. He needs a reality check!

Great teacher, cool guy, funny too. goes over homework at the begining of every class. explains anything you ask. Not the easiest teacher there is, however he's a very smart and good teacher. just get to class early so you don't miss out on pop quizes, if he gives quizes its the first 5 min. of class. Recomended if you want to put some work in

He is a nice teacher. Tells a lot of jokes and is clear when he teaches. He has pop quizzes which are easy if you study your material the day before. Tests are kind of hard but if you study well and do his tests well then you will do super in the common final. Totally recommended.

One o the best teachers at GCC. can teach which 99% of the teachers lack and is not as hard as people make you belive. quizes everyday which help your grade and all that junk and yes very funny.

THIS MAN IS HILARIOUS! Kind of hard to stay awake at 6:45 in the morning, though. His tests are very, very hard. BUT, he is amazingly helpful and clear. If you go to his office hours he will try everything in his power to make you understand. EXCELLENT teacher!!!!!!!!

he is one of the best teacher in the GCC. HE always explains your homework. You should be ready every day and be on time because he gives quiz every day and exactly at 6.45. So be on time. HE has a great sence of humor which will enhance your mood early in the morning.so take him do not worry.

Explains stuff perfectly......goes over everything that troubles students.....study his notes and you will surely pass...an A grade is not impossible in his class....

I failed this class twice before taking Larry, first it was David Hassett, a**** in a men's body, then Pomeroy, just a**** and I really know what "hard" means. Now this is a teacher, if I had taken him when I fist started at GCC I'd be out of school by now. His tests are hard but its cool, he'll get you ready for them. Great guy, will make class fun, you will learn all kinds of stuff. Great sence of humor, he can even dub as a philosophy teacher. Take him for calc 1 if you want to do good in calc 2.

At first, i was thinking that he is just a joke, but by the end of the semester, i realized that he is one of the best teachers i have ever had. i should confess that his tests aren't the easiest tests, but if you want to progress and become better at Math, you should take him. In other words, he is GOOD. he knows what he is doing.

I had Newberry for the fall session and i enjoyed going to his class every single day at 7:00 a.m. He is one of "the Best" teachers in GCC. Every morning when you get to class he answers questions from the homework and explains it clearly. His tests are not easy! the final was really difficult, but i managed to get an A in his class. best math professor at gcc! everything is clear, he'll go out of his way to help u. one slight problem is that his tests are just too 'tricky' you sort of have to get used to the way he writes his tests. also he doesnt collect hw, which is bad cause most of us wont do it. you'll never get bored cause he's HILARIOUS unlike all the others

Mr. Newberry has a great sense of humor (unlike most Math instructors). He will take time out to explain it to you so that you can understand the material. He explains math in more than one way so that it is easier to process.

Dude the guys is hilarious. Makes math very unboring surprisingly. He explains a problem over and over for one person if he has to. The only problem is his tests are hard. Everything else is ez A. Come to class for the early pop quizes and do good on tests and you have an A. If you get a B+ he'll give you an A. Awesome guy

This guy is the best math teacher at GCC. He really knows how to teach and help his students succeed. He will make sure that you understand the problem and have all your questions answered. Larry is a great teacher to know and keep close connections with him outside of class. Wow, but during class he is o.k. but he has a hard time explaining something clearly and his tests are out of this world, they are HARD!!! Even if you study hard he will make sure that you get stuck on the problems on the tests. If you can try avoiding LARRY!!

Professor Newberry is by far the professor i have ever had. He knows the subject very well and is extremely helpful. His tests are a little difficult, but which math test isn't difficult? He is really clear. I would recommend that everyone take him. To top it all of his is really funny. He really cares about his students.

Took his calculus class a year ago and I still remember everything he taught. I'm Going to transfer to a university with the knowledge intact. His tests are hard but is possible to pass if you study. Also gives extra credit sometimes.... so take him if you use math in your major (such as business-econ majors).

amazing teacher. he makes it interesting in class and makes the mood kinda light and fun, but he still doesn't let you slack off. he's a great teacher and wants his studentts to be the same way.

He is a very hard teacher. His tests are sooooo hard. Do not take him unless you think you can solve tough math problems on exams that are never like the homework questions. By the way you should be ready for a QUIZ almost every day since he loves quizes. Good luck!

I didn't like his classes first. But then I realized he is a great teacher. He has a very good personality. He also tries to help you in his office hours. Honestly, his exams are difficult. So, you need to be prepared for them. At last, he gives you apportuneties to get a better grade. I highly recommend him for all hardworking students.

Prof. Newberry is great. He tries to make sure that everyone understands, and though he criticizes the textbook in class, he makes good use of it. He helped me with finding a doable way to fulfill the Honors Project, and seemed flexible, accepting what I finally decided to do - tutoring my brother. Most negative comments likely come from non-nerds.

Newberry is a good math teacher straight out. he's always willing to answer questions and explain the material as much as he can. attending class is important so that you wont miss any pop quizes or tests.he doesnt collect homework which is good.i got an A in the class by making sure i did the hw and asking plenty of questions.

he is really understanding. he answers all questions. sometimes says things that he thinks are funny but really arent. but yea. sometimes when showing math problems he'll skip steps which is wat always lost me but if you ask he will show u the steps he doesnt write down. fair grader but you got to earn your grade

i dont like math but he was an okay teacher. he was funny and gives you quizzes like crazy! but his tests are pretty hard. i enjoyed his class but i did not like how much hw he assigned but if you do it all the tests and quizzes are based off it and you should be fine.

Larry is awesome. He's so funny. Doesn't collect the homework. Tests are relatively short. He likes people that talk and ask questions. He explains things well but only if you ask him to go over it. He's a good teacher.

Although he has a reputation for being difficult, 25% of the class got 100% on at least one test. He does not collect homework, but gives lots of quizzes. On the last day of class he gave us a "What's your name" quiz. He really knows how to teach math and answers questions for 85% of class. If you do the homework and study hard, acing is easy.

This guy cares about the student. He wants there to be a guaranteed week between the end of class and the finals. He wants th college to use a better textbook. He wants to make the complete solutions manual available to everyone. Although he is difficult, he is fun. He believes that existence is the ability to deviate from a straight line path.(!?)

This is an extremely difficult class because he puts the most complicated questions on his exams. Only take if you are REALLY good in math, otherwise try to avoid his class. Nevertheless, he is a nice guy, but will not give an A if you don't deserve it.

I just love Mr. Newberry, a dedicated, kind-hearted, and gifted teacher. He is soooo wonderful. You are not able to fall asleep or expect to get out of his class as soon as possible because of his great sense of humor and clarity. You will enjoy every moment in his class, knowledge, your honor grades, and self-improvement once taking his class.

Mr. Newberry is my favorite professor at GCC. He is very helpful and takes interest in his students.

Overall, he's a good teacher. He is really, really funny at times, but very intimidating when it comes to lecturing. He uses all of these weird symbols to express even the simplest math concepts.....kind of scares the hell out of of me.

He goes fast sometimes but overall he is very clear with the subject. Tests are hard but he drops the lowest. And even drops one problem for every tests. Do not be late or miss his classes. Quizzes will raise up your grade.

This is college n if you need extra attention you should go to his office. I tried really hard and even with an 88.5%, he gave me an A. He's funny and sarcastic. As for difficulty level for math, that shouldn't be judged by the professor but by the class ur taking b/c even if a professor is extremely helpful, that class may just be hard in general!

Good teacher, assigns alot of homework but does not collect or grade any, its up to you to do it, hard tests but if you do your hw and listen to his lectures you'l be fine..also very helpful during office hours, stay with the class and he will round your grade if you show interest

Calc is a hard class but he is VERY helpful, very clear, and makes it interesting. I highly recommend him because he makes you fully understand the concepts of the problems being solved rather than just memorizing equations. Tests are difficult (expect hardest probs from book) but he drops lowest test and quiz. Highly recommend. Work hard, get an A

He always tries to scare the students by saying "OHH YOUR GONNA BE LOST". He is a W.E teacher. I do not recommend. Always makes irrelevant comments. There's better teachers out there. Also gives pop up quizzes when there is a lot of people late or absence, just so he can "GRADE LESS" wth?

Math overall is not an easy subject. Luckily though this professor is really helpful if you are struggling. Hes glad to answer the questions you have. The class consisted of 5 tests and he drops the lowest one and about 15 pop quizes and drops about the 3 lowest ones. The tests are fair with not being easy or too hard. This class requires studying.

Professor newberry is the man! I worked my butt off for this semester but god I learned so much in his class I STRONGLY recommend to go to his office hours hell always be there whenever you have questions in fact hell go out of his way just to help you. Make sure u do your hw cause that's what's gonna be on his test! Regardless I passed with a C he also became a friend! You just gotta study !

He is nice and funny person, but his tests are hard and full of surprises. He might give something that we have not even practiced at class. If you are taking calc right after math 101, it is going to be really hard to get A or B. He does not give any practice test. He expects you to know math very well. Be careful, because he might ruin your GPA.

The BEST math professor I've ever had. His lectures are short, and he spends most class time on homework. He makes the classes fun, and does not censor his ridiculing humor (just don't take it personally). Do the homework and you'll be golden. Practice actually doing problems before tests. Speak up when you're confused and he's happy to explain.

He is a very funny and nice person .. he makes the time go by so fast, I was never bored during the class. His tests are somewhat hard but he is very sympathetic when grading. He dropped the lowest exam score and he dropped the 3 lowest quizzes of 10 !!! He lectures for a short time thought but he spends a lot of time doing examples and exercises.

His tests are really hard but he prepares you for it! EXTREMELY smart man! Its not an easy class but definitely possible to get an A. Prof Newberry is a great teacher who will help you if you ask. Although I failed his class and retaking it, I am aware of what needs to be done. Come to class everyday and do the HW assignments everyday. If you weren't able to solve any problems from the HW, let him know the next day in class and he'll teach you step by step and do the reading.

One of the best teachers I've had at Glendale! Nice, positive and very helpful. You need to do your homework but he will help you with anything you don't understand. Easiness depends on how you like math. If you have a hard time with math, it's going to be a relative hard class,but you will get the best help you could get! Strongly recommend him.

Calc I's insanely difficult if you're not a math geek from the start. Newberry's very helpful. He'll keep you awake in lecture. He goes quick, tests are hard (calc I) but he's more than willing to help. Just go to his office hours & speak up when lost. Also, study, study, STUDY. I dropped since my cousin passed mid-semester, retaking with Newberry.

This is the most carings professor ever!! Understands math, super funny, and I highly recommend taking him. Its math so its not gonna be an easy A but Newberry will guide you. Do your homework and study, you will be fine. HE IS THE BEST! GREAT PERSONALITY!

He was a fantastic teacher and explained things well, even if it was unrelated to math. He assigned homework, but it was for practice only. The grades were from scheduled quizzes and tests. I HIGHLY recommend him.

One of the funniest teachers at GCC: makes learning a relatively boring (Pre-Calc) subject fun with his joyful personality and great sense of humor. Never collects the homework, but you need to do it if you want an "A". Tests are challenging, but that's what you should expect from a class that consists of quizzes and tests. Definitely recommend.

Honestly Larry is the most kind & generous professor. After failing my test he encouraged me and supported me to do better, still giving me the opportunity to succeed, "we're on the same side." He NEVER discourages you which is an extremely rare trait in a professor nowadays. He should be a role model for all professors & of course knows his stuff!

Mr. Newberry is one of the best professors I have ever encountered. I felt very lucky to have a teacher who truly enjoys teaching, and is very encouraging! He was consistently helpful and highly organized. I had this math class at 6:30 in the morning, and he managed to make it a pleasant experience, and his humor is one of his best qualities!

He has been teaching for decades, so he knows exactly what he is doing. he is very clear with his lectures, and is always there to help for the students that ask. Although he does not require attendance, if you want to pass you need to go to class. Same for homework, not mandatory, but a must. Tests are tough, but you'll learn a lot in this class.

Very funny and nice person. Always there for help, but his tests are insanely hard. You gotta work real hard to get a good grade. And don't ignore the homework. That was my mistake. If I had kept up with the hw, I would've gotten a better grade. Although I got a C in the class, I'm still thankful. Just make the tests easier, Larry, please!

Main problem is level of difficulty when it comes to his tests. If you do not have sharp test taking skills, do not take him. Finishing an exam completely was a challenge, along with the exam itself. Homework is assigned but he does not check. Larry is an amazing man, very helpful, easy-going however, I would not take this class again.

Larry is definitely the best math professor I've ever had. He makes class really fun, he's hilarious, and he can explain things brilliantly. Unlike some other professors, Larry doesn't mind doing the same problem over and over and explaining it in ways we can understand. He works hard for his students and cares about their success. Wow Larry newberry is honestly the greatest professor I've ever had in my life not just gcc. He is hilarious and always cracking jokes so have a sense of humor. He gives soooo much extra credit he drops your worst questions on tests and he just really loves to teach. He wants you to pass so stick around and don't drop he will try to help you out.

Larry made me love Calc 2! He honestly cares for his students and his lectures are fun. He explains everything from the homework before he lectures. He drops your worst question of the exam and gives a lot of partial credit if he sees that you really tried to solve a question. Simply the best math prof of gcc.A is possible in this class with him.

He def. knows what he's doing. Explains well, and extremely patient with his students. He gives quizzes which prepare you for the tests. He will let you know exactly what to study for. If you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask. He will try his best to teach you. Although he doesn't check attendance, go to class every day for your own good.

I've had three classes with him, and I'll gladly take more if I wasn't done with my math.

Larry is a nice and friendly guy but he is a very tough professor. Rushes through the lectures and skips steps. Also, his tests are insanely difficult, and he makes up his own questions. However, he drops the lowest question from the test and the lowest test at the end and offers extra credit opportunities outside of campus.

He's a good guy with a great heart. He wants all his students to pass, you're just got to return the effort.

Larry-- amazing guy, tough teacher. Many people ended up withdrawing because his exams are very difficult. He offers extra credit and is available to help you during office hours, but there tends to be a line to speak to him. If you're going to only take this class and another easy one, go for him. If not, you will struggle!

Drops the lowest test grade out of the five chapter tests & usually drops one question from the tests. Hw isn't graded, but bases test questions off hw so it all looks familiar. Gives out practice tests and says what type of questions will be on the test in class so you know what to study. Difficulty's normal for a calc class, good teacher overall.

Amazing prof. Explains everything until you get it. Tends to give lots of pop quizzes, but its for the best trust me. Drops a question sometimes on each test which helps ALOT! He is relly caring and makes class very fun. Offers extra credit on each test which also helps alot. Larry was amazing and one of the funniest ppl ive ever met. GOAT!

Great professor. He is VERY caring, kind, & funny. Gives partial credit/extra credit. His lectures are good, but the exams are beyond difficult. They don't cover the book material nor come from the HW. No matter how hard you study, you're still unprepared, but he is always there to help: He really wants everyone to pass. Would def retake the class!

He is a really fair professor, and his lectures are amazing. He answers all the questions, even he has to stay longer. His test's questions are from his lectures. I really recommend this professor.

Newberry is one of the best professors. Truly cares about his student's success and tries his best to help everyone pass the class. Class is difficult but he leads you the right way and provides you with all the help you need. Insanely dedicated to his job. Makes math fun and makes it interesting. Keep up with info as he likes to give pop quizes.

If you really want to learn math you need to work hard! Newberry is a Great professor! he challenges you with tricky tests but that makes you learn a lot and you will appreciate him in the end! he's always in his office to help with your questions. He is the best math instructor at GCC. if your serious about your math, take him. period.

He has humor, class is FAIR. I mean it's calc, you're expected to put effort if you want an A. It's not impossible to get a good grade for his class, but it does take a lot of work since the material is time consuming to understand, not because the professor is bad. Sometimes he'll ask for your favorite color on quiz to boost your quiz grade.

I took this over a winter session and signed an honors contract. He made the honors part ez with only two research papers to write and it didnt really have an effect on my grade. The usual stuff tho, Oh my god. I tried so hard for this class. I got a C- on his first test and still got an A. There is hope! Dont give up! Go back to studying

Larry is a great professor and teaches very well. He gives assignments, but it is your choice to complete them because he does not even look at them. Your grade is mostly based on tests and quizzes, with the occasional extra credit offered. He drops the lowest test grade at the end, and on each test, he may drop your lowest scoring question.

This man is an absolute LEGEND. You will fall in love with him. He is super nice with grading, and fair. If you made one little mistake which caused your entire grade to be wrong, he will only take off point for that mistake. His voice is so soothing and its like music to your ears. Women you will take off your wedding ring I promise!

Larry is a gem. He is very caring for his students and understands the struggle of being a college student. He has the patience to go on detail over problems with you. But dont expect to pass easily, you do need to put in the work. As long as you do all assignments, practice test and go to his office hours for help and youll be fine.

Larry is AMAZING!!! Hes an incredible professor. He gives great lectures & makes calc so much more understandable. The subject itself is difficult so dont expect an easy A. But Larry is a fair grader and he genuinely wants all of his students to succeed. His exams are a bit difficult but its definitely possible to get an A. Take his class!!!

Larry is a LEGEND! He is the most fair professor ever!!! Don't be scared from the very beginning, it's all gonna be good. Gives a lot of opportunity for extra credit. Meanwhile, DON'T expect him to give you the grade as a gift but definitely expect to get what you deserve and a little more. LOVE HIM!!!!

Professor Larry is absolutely amazing! He is a very understanding professor. He makes sure you do your work and learn the lesson, but it the fairest person I have ever seen. He really cares about his students! The lesson is hard, but he will explain it as many times as the students need, and is always ready to answer your question. He's so awesome!

One of the best attitudes among GCC's teachers. However, his explanations are very perfunctory. You have to read the book by yourself which is inappropriate for such an esoteric subject. You good at math or have already taken calculus? He is the best what could happen to you here. You are mediocre? You will suffer a lot.

His class is one of the hardest classes Ive ever taken in my life BUT he makes it fair at the end. Basically if you work hard and join the SI and do the practice exams you can get a B or an A but you need to work HARD for it and its not an easy A. He cares about his students and even offers optional classes during weekends.

One of the most caring professors I've ever known. Genuinely wants you to learn. This class is completely dependent on how much effort you put into it but if you put in the effort it's worth it.

Newberry makes math easy with his understanding that students have holes in their education. He will go back to basic mathematics if needed and wont shame you for it, also he wont get angry at any questions. The book is very expensive like around $100-$200 and there is a lot of studying but he does not grade homework's, only quiz's.

AMAZING!! Took him for Spring 2023 and he was easily my fav class. Really good lectures and curves/drops a question for almost every test. He sometimes has "pop" quizzes but he warns you beforehand. I had him for Honors and it was so easy... just three more extra quizzes than regulars (mixed class). He also drops lowest quiz and test! 10/10.

Professor Larry is an awesome professor! He's super friendly and always willing to help. Just make sure you keep up with the readings and get your homework done, and you'll do fine in his class. I highly recommend him.

If you don't put in effort, you won't get an A.He pulls questions from the questions students ask in class, his lecture examples, and the hw. Do the SI practice exams, and he give extra credit for SI attendance. Show him you care abt your grade, and he will help. He is rlly nice. Pay attention to lectures, and dont skip class.

Professor Larry is known for his engaging lectures and fair grading system. While the class can be challenging, he provides ample support through practice exams and SI sessions. I found unstuck study a helpful tool for preparation alongside the textbook. Overall, a rewarding experience for those willing to put in the work.

Absolutely amazing professor who truly cares about his students and puts in the effort to teach them. His lectures are far from regular lectures, as they are engaging "conversations" with the class. His class is difficult, but there are plenty of opportunities to get support and help from him, and an A is definitely possible.

He teaches clearly and concisely, and then leaves the rest of time for questions. Tests can be tough. He's also free at office hours, tells funny stories, and gives free popcorn! It's very difficult if you're missing the prerequisite algebra skills, or if you skip the "optional" homework, but otherwise, he's one of the best teachers I've ever had.

As far as calculus goes, I don't think you can get a better professor than Larry at gcc. I had him in calc 1 and he is a very generous grader. He also drops the lowest test grade which is nice. His tests are the extremely difficult though.

Larry is the best teacher I've ever had. Calculus is a super difficult subject, but he is patient and explains things in a way that makes them manageable. Such a kind, fun, and caring human. He totally changed my outlook on math, making me enjoy it. The grade is based on your tests and quizzes only. His office hours help a ton so go to them.

Great professor. I took him over the summer and it was HARD but worth it. His lectures were fun and informative, and he was a funny guy. Lots of homework and brutal exams, but he gives free quizzes, drops a test, and allowed flash cards for us to make things easier. Accessible outside of class and a good person, though a little eccentric.

mostly graded on tests and quizzes! homework is not graded, or collected. DO THE PRACTICE EXAMS almost exactly like the tests. lenient grader. had his class early in the morning so attendance was a hit or miss, but i don't think it affected grades. always willing to help, wish he had calc 2 for this fall :(

best professor ever, honestly hes really good at explaining everything, and he also does not mind to explain things again for people who dont get it the first time. take him asap, his class fills up very fast because hes so good.
