Pitilli is cool. There are a lot of Speeches to do, but most of them are Pass/Fail type where once you get up to talk, you basically passed it. There are two papers to do, but he doesn't take off for lateness. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND PROFFESOR PITILLI.

I graduated ST. John's six years ago and when I heard about this web site, Prof. Pitilli instantly came into my head. I came out of my shell in his class and learned so many life lessons. Very knowledgable, professional, and personable.

fun class to go to.there are tons of speechs assigned but you will get comfortable in the class right away.

Too many speeches, my friends in other classes had like only 3 the entire semester, its just a core class, very nice and funny man but way too much work for a speech class and the tests are kinda difficult also....

He's an awesome professor. Even though there are a lot of speeches to make, he makes you feel at ease. He compliments on what you're doing right and gives you pointers on what need to be improved. Great professor, highly recommanded.

Prof.Pitilli is an excellent professor, very entertaining, and willing to help you out if ever you need help. He does give a lot of speeches but a lot of them are 1 minute speeches. I didnt put too much effort and I got a B+.

Very easy.Two 3-pg papers on interesting topics. Teaching method wasn't all that bad. Repeated himself on notes twice to make sure you understand it. Very helpful with all material. You get to learn sign language!!! (which is awesome). Midterm is easy and the classes are fun to attend

Today was my very first day of class, and I'm in love already. This guy is amazing. He's so intuitive and curious. I was debating dropping the class b/c it's at 7:30am...but screw that, this guy is worth it.

Prof. Pitilli IS the man. He is always interesting in class and has a sense of humor too. On top of this,you will learn so much in his classes from job interviewing skills, debates and other really interesting lessons he covers.He is a dedicated Prof. and I would have taken him for any other course he taught. SJU needs more professors like Pitilli.

What a great mentor in life. I ,a a combat vet, wounded in action. His dad was a paratrooper in WWII who was wounded, a POW, and made combat jumps into Europe. We spoke so much about life, family, interests, and the future. In regards to teaching he is second to none. His genuine interest in wanting you to succeed is his key. Amazing man and professor. I hold him in the highest regards

Quite easily the best teacher I ever had at SJU. I hate speaking, but after a few weeks in the class, I felt noticeably more comfortable in front of people. He tends to ask for up to 20 speeches, but I actually learned something. Don't go through SJU w/o taking a class with him.

I was scared to death of speaking in front of people before I took this class. Pitilli's charasmatic style of teaching and the way he made the class laid back helped everyone to conquer their fears. Two papers, one test, and 18 speeches makes this a very demanding class, but it is also very helpful and rewarding. Take this prof!!!

He is an amazing professor. One of the best professors to take for speech and one of St. John's best. GREAT PROFESSOR. Uses no book at all (doesn't even tell you to buy one) and there are no exams. Just speeches. Speech due everyday, but he doesn't really expect you to write a speech; he more so wants you to have points in your head and make stuff up as you go. Oh, and he brings in food for the class sometimes ... ALWAYS A BONUS!!!!!

You don't do that many homeworks, the tests are kinda simple, basically you just need to speak and explain yourself on the tests and thats how you get a good grade. He's a very nice guy and easy to talk to.

Awesome guy, easy grader, great class to take for future lawyers, those going into advertising, business, etc. If you take Speaking for Success you'll get to know everyone by the end of the semester and learn from one another as well. Pitilli gives great advice for the working world and personal sphere. Interview advice, marketing, persuasion, etc.

EXCELLENT COURSE. This prof. teachs a regular one and I took this second course to help me out with job interviews and speaking in general. We learned a lot and the course was so much fun to go to. Really nice guy and funny too.

Very good professor...there were about 19 speeches...most of those were one min speeches and about five major speeches. There were two papers and a midterm and final. You dont have to write up your speeches which saves up a lot of time as well. I would recommend him.

There aren't enough positive things to say about Professor Pitilli. Although you do end up speaking a lot (22 speeches in all for my class), the assignments are interesting and really actually fun. It's what a public speaking class should be: public speaking practice, and not reliance on the textbook. I would highly recommend him.

Took this class over the summer. One of the best professor at St. Johns. You will learn alot from this guy. 16 pass/fail speeches and 5 major speeches. Makes you feel very comfortable while your making your speeches. He have helped me overcome my fears of public speaking. Def. a professor worth taking. It was a blessing to have have him as my prof!

He is my favorite professor of this semester. He is kind, funny, & extremely down to earth. He makes the class interesting, and very easy in the sense that even the shyest of people will feel comfortable speaking in front of others during class. He is very understanding, & listens to what you have to say, whether it has to do with his class or not.

TAKE HIM! Teaches many methods and certain curriculums pertaining to NYC. Takes a week to teach one subject matter thoroughly and comprehensively. Allows you to communicate, participate, and enjoy class time with the use of sign language, phonetic alphabet, and speech language. Lectures become comedic with personal life stories!

Easy going and funny.The were only a few tests and they were really easy basically on material directly from the notes and there was never any homework.

He was like one professor that was worth going to class. Class was interesting with his randomness. I had him in the morning, the randomness makes it real fun. but he a great professor. there's no books needed because his class is like a speech class which i think is great. its a must take.

this class was great fun and always entertaining. nothing but a ton of speeches, and prof. pitilli will help anyone morbidly afraid of public speaking feel more at ease. however, if you're reasonably comfortable already, then this class -apart from the entertainment- offers very little. no theoretical, academic approaches to speech at all.

Do not take this class with any other prof. Prof. Pitilli is simply the best. He really cares about his students, he teaches in a way that you want to return to class, and he helps you get over your fear of speaking. This man is a gift to St. John's. The nicest person.

Extremely helpful professor. Do not take speech with anyone else. Within a few days he puts the class at ease and you are constantly up there and after a while the class is one comfortable environment. I had him for DNY at 8am and I could barely get up. He's a great professor!! I would not have wanted to take this class with anyone else.Actually I dropped a different DNY teacher and added his class. He's very helpful, there is no book, no sllyabus,no homework, about 2 speeches and you learn sign language. Highly recommended

Professor Pitili is an amazing professor who genuinely cares about his students. He makes class fun and is extremely understanding. The midterm and final are based on material from the book and there are two papers he assigns on top of multiple short 1 minute speeches, a handful of 5-7 minute ones, and one or two 6-10+ minute ones.

Great professor! Such a funny and cool guy. He isn't really a go hard but do your work and he will give you the grade you deserve. If you're not ready for a speech then he will give you a day or so to get yourself together. But at the same time, don't take his kindness for granted because he will figure you out and fail you.

I had him for Speech and Liberal Studies, he is very sweet and really looks out for you. He is kinda wacky but vey easy to talk to. He went out of his way to put me in contact with a friend of his in who works in my major. His essay topics are kinda random but I got 101 on my midterm and A as a final grade. TAKE HIM

So sweet, and SO funny! We learned a bunch of random facts about NYC. There's 2 writing assignments and we got to go to cool places (drum roll). His test questions are simply FUN, allow your creativity to run wild. Just review the materials and by hip! Easy A.

no textbook. very interesting approach to learning about new york. learn a lot of random and awesome facts about new york and language. only a midterm and final and maybe one short assignment to hand in. learned some sign language. no official syllabus. very easy class just pay attention and you will get an A and really enjoy the class too1

This guy is the best professor at St Johns, miss 5 or less classes and you get an A. no assignments are graded, all based on attendance, no homework!! Very interesting and learned some valuable knowledge on getting a job

This is my worst class but it's because of my lack of effort, he's an amazing teacher and person and I would definitely recommend him. He is so understanding, if you ever have ANY issue with anything, can't do something on time, can't make it to a trip, need help with major/personal problems, etc, he is the person to go to for help.

THE BOMB DOT COM! Such a great professor. Caring, kind, and lenient. Two papers (you can do one over), a mid-term, and a final. Small quizzes in class that add to your final grade (it can only help you). Not too much work, interesting lessons, and you go on trips too. Mid-term and final are a bit tedious though, all memorized, essay questions.

class is really chill, lots of speeches, speeches are relatively easy as long as you prepare for them. two bs papers and midterm + final that had nothing to do with what we were doing in class. midterm was hard, final was ok, make sure to clarify your points in your papers

He is adorable. A total hippie. He cares about every one of his students and he genuinely wants you to do well. You feel so much more comfortable speaking and writing speeches by the end of the class. Don't take it if you're going to just slack off though.

THE BEST! I was dreading taking speech, but it turned out to be one of my favorite classes. Pitilli makes you so comfortable with speaking in public, and his assignments are actually fun and interesting. He is the nicest professor I have ever had. You absolutely have to take him. Like most people, I dreaded taking Public Speaking... but Prof. Pitilli made this class totally do-able. He takes interest in even the most boring speeches and he offers lots of very constructive criticisms. He's a complete hippy and such a nice guy. You have about 20 speeches but it isn't bad. He is there if you need any help but he is clear on what he wants. There are passfail speeches which are just one minute speeches and then major speeches. I hate public speaking but it got a lot easier throughout the semester. He gets you prepared for the final speech. I would take him again.

15-18 speeches. 6 major speeches rest are very small 1 min speeches or impromptu ie: introductions. Prep for major speeches! 1 paper unique choice of topics. STRICT grader on the paper. Don't wing it. Fair speech grader. Midterm is tricky, examples+matching column. Final is easy but long 4 essays. Textbook required. Easy EC given. He IS AWESOME!!

I love Professor Pitilli, he is well respected and truly cares about his students. He is a total hippie and all over the place sometimes but his enthusiasm makes you enjoy his class. Such a sweet guy who really understands and supports his students. He made speaking in front of the class painless. There is an essay and a multiple choice like midterm, but theyre do-able. The final is kind of hard but it is right out of the textbook.

Pitilli is definitely one of my fav profs ever! He is amazing! His class was so fun and interesting, and we went to the wax museum for our class trip. He also gave us many opportunities for extra credit. His tests demand a lot, but that's the least when the class is pretty simple overall. Take him!!

I was very scared of taking speech class but he makes you feel so welcome and comfortable in class. After a week or two, he makes public speaking seem easy. The midterm is a bit difficult but the final is easy. Both are straight out of the textbook. He curves your grade you have attendance. Also gives extra credit essays. Easy A

Pitilli is the greatest professor to ever walk St. John's campus. It is a necessity that you take his speech class (speaking for success). He's one of the few professors that will teach you necessary life skills. I honestly wish I could take him every semester. Mild work load

I took his honors speech class and it was ridiculously easy. But I still learned a lot. He helps you slowly transition into speaking in front of an audience. There are about 10-15 speeches, with a few of them being 5 minutes or longer. There is a midterm and a final based on the text (but you don't really need the book so share with a friend).

Just give this man an award! He is absolutely fantastic both as a teacher and as a friend. Take any one of his class.

Professor Pitilli is the best. I was dreading taking public speaking but he really makes you so comfortable going up there. We did about 15-20 speeches. The midterm and final are fair but require some studying. He also offers extra credit. Take his class!!

AMAZING Professor keeps the class very entertained while learning. He truly cares about all his students and wants you to do good. Never HW, only 3 papers, midterm and final. Also, gives you many options to receive extra credit. Highly recommend, always loved going to his class.

Hands down best Speech professor and best professor period I had at St. John's. He treats his students well, teaches the material, and has a sense of humor. Not like most professors who come off full of themselves. Real good guy, down to earth and very knowledgeable. Take him and if you can't take him wait another semester to get into his class

Such a good professor really wants to help you out in any way possible. lots of impromptu speeches totally helped prepare me. best part was mock interviews little scary to be put on the spot but helped me so much. had lots of real life stories and examples that made the class open up more and go a lot faster

Pitili is amazing. If you can get him for speech, esp. honors take him. In tot. we did 14 speeches. But most were 1-2 min pass/fails, which usually had interesting prompts and really enabled you to get comfortable speaking in front of the class. He genuinely cares about your progress and understands that everyone is at diff. levels. So funny too.

Best teacher for Speech class. Pittili provides clear criteria for grading. Final grade dependent on a combination of four main speeches and a dozen one-minute speeches. The four large speeches (5-10 min. each) are informative, persuasive, demo, and narrative. There is one short paper (3 pg). Great teacher who provides a lot of support

If you have the chance to take Professor Pitilli for public speaking, take him! I am awful at public speaking, and his class really helped me become more confident. He's also really nice and his final grade is really on whether or not you improve from beginning to end of semester. Great professor, so nice and funny!

Prof Pitilli's speaking for success class prepares you for interviews & speaking in a professional business setting. He has great stories and is very entertaining to listen to. Show up and participate and you'll do well. Rarely ever homework, no midterm, or tests. There is only a small powerpoint presentation and a final speech. Highly recommend!

If there is one professor you must take at St. John's, it is Professor Pitilli. He is by far the best professor ever, and one of the most brilliant people I've met. It was the least stressful class I've ever taken, and I learned SO much on how to be a great speaker and interviewee. Plus, he tells many funny and practical life lessons. I adore him!

TAKE HIM IF YOU GET THE CHANCE. Literally easiest class I've ever taken and he just talks about random things but they're useful life lessons. Very sweet and genuinely cares about your life. No homework just minimal essays on New York. Attendance is mandatory but I looked forward to this class when I took it. Written final gives you answers before

TAKE HIM. The ideas for the speeches are so good (informational, persuasive, etc.) and there's very little work for the class (save for the final, which was essays...). I wish he gave more feedback but he's a good teacher, really nice, and classes are short. Try to take in person. Literally try on your speech and then listen to others. That's it.

Pitilli is amazing. He was one of the few professors I had in person Fall 2020 and he really cared about his classes. Really thankful for him. You give a lot of speeches, but they are interesting. He makes a comfortable environment and actually helps you become a better speaker.

Amazing professor! Gives really great feedback and overall a caring professor. His speech assignments are very interesting and gives more than enough time to complete it.

He's really cool. Basically destresses the class on the first day you meet him. You do have quite a lot of speeches with like 4 major speeches in total, but he's really chill with you. As long as you show up you'll probably be fine as attendance matters the most for him. Tells lots of fun stories too.

the best speech professor that you will ever have! he was funny, cultured, & interesting & gave unique prompts for our weekly speeches. just put effort into your speeches & you will pass. he does not penalize us if we miss certain points. as long as you try your hardest, you will pass the class & leave much more confident.
