He was hard and seemed biased at times, but if you get his respect you'll get a good grade. One hint it he likes a lot of body language.
I really don't like public speaking to begin with but I did pass the class and I did almost all my speeches the night before it is a pain but if you get it all done and do everything he says you'll prolly pass. His Mid term and final suck!
As long as you follow his guidlines and know what you are talking about, Radden will be fair. His midterms and exams were pretty straight forward, as long as you went over the notes. do not buy the book!!
This was a great class. I was apprehensive about public speaking, but he made it extremely painless. Tests were easy, just study the review. Extensive reading definitely not necessary to get an A.
He grades a little to hard. He needs to stop grading students like professional speech speakers, we're just starting out and there to learn, we're not going to be great at it. Half of his class dropped before mid-semester, tell you how much fun they had
I suck at public speaking and he made it really unintimidating. If you follow the instructions and format you can get an A, hes really enthusiastic, but won't bend his rules.
he was ok. he was so busy and he always meade me nervous when he taked because he went a million miles a minute. he has a million thigs on his mind. he is always late. nice person. get on his good side.
He is very clear on what he wants but grades very hard. Head of Speech and Debate, and grades you according. He has you do way too much. DON'T TAKE HIM. There are plenty of easier Speech teachers that don't require as much!
He thinks his speech class is the most important class at Saddleback, do not take this teacher.
Tries to be really helpful but in the process puts on an air of knowing everything. Will not bend at all on anything, and gets very upset if you do something in you private life that has to do with speaking or acting without consulting his advice.
I really enjoyed this class.Made me a better speaker.Really funny & nice guy.Must put alot of work into speeches, but there is nothing else.Do NOT need book.Test are easy multiple choice and all from note in class.Very helpful too.
What a comedian. He thinks he's hilarious, but rarely gets a laugh. He's a decent teacher, wants his class to be active listeners, which is good and keeps you from dazing. You will learn a lot, and improve with every speech as well as in your writing.
Larry Radden is a great teacher that lays everything out very clearly. He is willing to help a student to the entire extent that they may need him. Charming and charismatic. Put in effort and you will be encouraged.
The most brutal class I've taken! Very hard grader; if you leave out even one requirement, you don't get a passing grade for that speech. He is very clear about what he wants from you, though, so if you put in the effort you can get an A.
Very unclear and unhelpful
The truth is, all i wanted to do is get speech out of the way for transfer. and now I'm going to have to retake it, because this guy thought we would need this stuff later. So if you really want to delve into the mysteries of public speaking, go for him.
He is very tough. Not an easy class. Expects everyone to be at ease in front of the room. He grades on how well you write and research instead of your public speaking skills. I would NOT recommend him unless you are a GREAT writer and speaker!
This man can talk so fast and he uses some pretty big words. His Coures move at a fast speed.
He's the coach of the speech team and thinks he is an actor, therefore he is very pompus and obnoxious. It's like you have to be a professional speeker to get even an "A" in his class. If you do one little thing wrong on your speech, you fail.
I had him for speech, and though not everyone enjoys his silly personality, though I did, he makes it easy to do well. He's one of those teacher who basically lays out exactly how to get an A, so if ur not good at rules/instructions steer clear;great guy!
do your speeches about stuff you care about - Larry is a great teacher
the class is fairly easy, but he does not teach very well, i would not take him again. when he asks you a question, they are so long that you are lost by the end of the question.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! He expects PERFECTION, gave priority to people on speech team. Is conceited and arrogant. Speech is his life. Grades incredibly hard, my class disliked him, many drops. I got a C after trying very hard
I took him during the summer semester and he was hard.
DO NOT TAKE HIM.....

A horrible teacher. I ended up dropping his class. I made the requirements for the speeches and I still failed. He expects everyone to be perfect and he has his favorites. He's a real jerk too. DO NO TAKE HIS CLASS!! YOU WILL REGRET IT!!!!!!
demanding but nice and focused
No Comments
he gave me an A but he's a punk...not a good teacher at all. unclear about what he expects, yet chastises students for not understanding the assignment. 5 mistakes over 5 speeches can make you fail the class. he needs work.
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!! He is extremely unclear as to what he expects. Kinda sad for someone who is a professional communicator. Not a good teacher at all.
the guy koows his stuff and expects his students to work. If you want to learn take him, if you are a slacker...go elsewhere!!!
Mr Radden is a busy but nice guy. He has lots on his plate and expects for his students to work and focus. Public speaking is scary for me however, if you ask the questions he will make it easier for you.
Excellant teacher...very well organized. The class is somewhat difficult, but if you are motivated to learn and determine what he expects...some of his expectations are difficult... but if they are followed...you are garenteed an A.
DON'T TAKE RADDEN- He is very unclear which is sad for a communication teacher. Very demanding, tests are hard, classes are boring and he is very monotonous. Take someone else!!!
Radden is cool! I alsways found that he was very helpful when I needed it. He's always available to answer anyone's questions. If you can't pass his class with at least a B, then you need to work on speaking skills.
the guy's a total smart ass. i loved speech before taking radden, and he totally ruined it for me. he grades like it's a doctorate's dissortation. he takes the class way too seriously. avoid him unless you want to work your ass off
Larry Radden is really into his work. I hate public speaking but he really worked with me and got rid of most of my nerves. I think that some people in class act like 2nd graders and they tend to complain about his reqirements however, I am here to learn and he's great guy!
Prof. Radden was one of the best teachers of whom I have had the pleasure to work with at Saddleback. He taught all of his students that public speaking is a neccesity in life as well as a huge confidence builder. He inspired me to go to a speech competition at CSULB. He focuses on format so much ju
he's a cool guy, but i don't think he really cares about anything else other than his speech team. with that in mind, he's not a real helpful instructor for this class.
I get the feeling that most of the class in ONLY there because they need to be in a speech calss however, Mr. Radden is smart and hands on. If you call or email questions he responds. He also has made an appointment with me early on in this semester. Listen and learn but he IS demanding.
Professor Radden changed my life. He is geniune and caring. Rarely, do you find a teacher who actually cares about their student's success. Utilizing the skills I acquired in his class, I was able to impress an employer and recieve a ****in' job. That is the whole point of school! And, to those who
Class is easy. Take the notes, and you will do fine on the test. The speeches are easy too. There are 5 throughout the semester, but they arent hard. He grades pretty easy. Hes a nice guy and is into speech. He cancles class a lot too which is awesome. I recommend his class
Oral interp is so close to acting and he really brings out the best in want to be actors. Radden is also very handsome which makes the time go by quickly! Stay focused and you will get an A in this class.
Too strict. Sets his expectations too high, since he's the speech coach, which isn't fair becuase probably 90% of the students in the class are solely their for general education(required), not to excel in public speaking.
Larry is the forensics coach and he tends to grade strictly, but to my surprise, I still got an A. The class builds your speech skills with each assignment. 85% lecture / 15% book on tests. Don't miss classes or you're doomed. Relax and have fun with the speeches and you'll do well.
Such a difficult teacher.. he expects you to be as good as one of his speech and debate team... if you get this man ..... run
This guy is a joke. Thinks in side the box even worst will subtract pts from students thinking outsidethebox. Every assignmnt is rigoursly graded on a scale he never fully discloses. He put students on the spot and confuses them, rather than actually teach them. Don't take his class. F-

This is the one guy at SB that I will always remember. His class changed my life. He's a TOUGH grader, but if you're serious about improving your public speaking skills, this is the guy you want. If you want to slide by, take someone else. Recommend you take him during summer, you'll get over nervousness within the first week.

WOW where to start. Nice guy outside of class, but once you step into his class it becomes a whole different story. He apparently doesn't realize that his class is at an INTRODUCTORY level. He plays favorites and never really tells you what he expects. Just save yourself the stress, time, and money don't do it.
Professor Radden is great...his class is fun and despite all of the speech required there are far fewer exams which I always see as a bonus! Radden is friendly, interested in his students and wants everyone to do well.
A great teacher. He puts up with a lot of crap from students who think they can just get up in front of a class and start blabbering about nothing. Sometimes tries too hard to be funny, but is genuinely willing to help and work with students who actually want to learn. I recommend him for people who want to work hard and learn
Took this during summer school. He was a nice guy with good intentions, but he was weird and totally screwed our class over at the end. He tries to explain his guidelines, but he is very confusing. If you take him you can get an "A", I did. But try to take someone else.
oi if i ever have to take another class from this man.....
An amazing teacher. Keep in mind that he will make you work. This is college, you need to do work without him telling you the step by steps. Great teacher outside and truly wants to see you succeed!
he is a good teacher, but with very hard grading standards. his class is frequently cancelled which would be good, but it is usually on speech days. doesnt clarify alot of things, which becomes stressful for the new freshmen. but i am halfway through, and i already feel like i have learned alot.
wel this guy is kinda weird im not gonna lie, but he really has made me a better off public speaker. i used to be terrified, but he really made it easier for me. he has some stupid jokes and is stubborn with his policies, but overall, hes okay. id reccommend him for this class
i hate him... everytime he talks i just get so much more confused and he grades the speeches like it is a speech competetion... even to those who are taking the class for the first time
Very difficult class, very unclear while teaching. Cancels class a lot and expects the students to still be on top of things. Grades the speeches like at a competition which is unfair because this is a Speech 1 class!
he picks favorites, so if you think you can get on his good side... he babbles on sometimes making it very unclear the point he's trying to get across. loses track of where he is in the class, and he likes to belittle people in front of the class
he needs to look into a new career. Going to his cLASS IS A WASTE OF TIME. he enjoys the sound of his own voice and will not reach out to the students that make it apparent that they are struggling. He doesnt have time to answer your questions because he cancels class and is too worried about missing his agents call. screw him.
Well all though I have learned a bit, and he is fairly clear his policies, or lack there of for himself are making this class difficult. He cancels class on days that are VERY important. Such as a review session for the midterm which hes squeezed into15 minuites at the end of anothter lecture. He makes things more difficult than they need to be.

I had him for oral interp. and he was amazing! I want to be an actor and he gave us lots of assignments that help an actor grow. Just do your work and listen and you will do great.
Very poor teacher! I do not recommed his class. If you want to work hard and not be rewarded taken radden's class. You will not be let down. I believe he should find another vocation. Not acting! Radden forget about chick-o-filet
Great person! I did 3 speeches in his class and the 1st was REALLY bad. I needed extra help so, I asked for an appointment and I got A's on the other two. He is always busy but he helps you out if you ask and he cares about the students.

I'm on the A track or the B track and I've learned lots form this teacher. Many of the student on the campus just don't care and if more would listen and do the work the results would be like mine.
Very FAIR grader and strict. Enjoy and Good LUCK!
Don't ever ever take this class. I don't give up easily but this was the worst teacher I ever had!! Take anyone else!!!! This is the most pointless class. I didn't learn anything. He isn't clear on due dates. I'd avoid him no matter what.
DO NOT TAKE! He thinks he's funny totally wacked out teacher that has no clue what he is doing on this earth.

Radden is a strict grader. He acts easy going and then will stab you in the back with a bad grade. One of the girls in the class was on the dean's list and gave some of the best speeches in class and didn't even get an A. Don't take this guy unless you like to kiss a**.
He's a good teacher but his intelligence is intimidating and condescending. He thinks he's funny but he's not. He grades too hard for an INTRO class. I only give him props for actually teaching me to be a better public speaker. I only recommend this class to students who like to be challenged or who is willing to put in extra effort.
Great teacher very enthusiastic, will try to get you to join the speech team.
YOU TAKE NOTES FOR HOURS...SOMETIMES EVEN THE ENTIRE PERIOD!!!! POINTLESS! AND HE USES BIG WORDS TO SOUND SMART..ANNOYING! IT'S IRONIC THAT HE TEACHES SPEECH......easy on the grading tho!
I was nervous taking him because of his horrible reviews, but he turned out to be all right! Not an easy class, you will do lots of research for speeches and he expects them to meet a lot of criteria...but if you are sincere and put the work in, you will get an A. We never even opened the textbook. I liked this class, but be prepared to work!
I don't know what people are complaining about, I took him in summer school and practically everyone in the class got and A and the tests were easy. If you are lazy and don't put in the work of course it's going to be hard.
GOOD TEACHER...DO NOT BUY THE BOOK!! ITS EXPENSIVE AND WE USED IT ONCE MAYBE...ITS BEEN SITTING ON MY DESK THE WHOLE TIME. IF YOU DO THE SPEECHES AND FOLLOW THE RULES YOU'LL BE FINE. CLASS IS INTERESTING.GOOD TEACHER
Extremely impressed with Prof. Radden. He is not an easy teacher, but grades fair. If you do your work for the speaches and study your notes you will get an A. DO NOT buy the book. He says you need it for the test, but take good notes and you'll be fine. Bottom line, Try Hard get an A; but slack off and definitely get a C (or worse).
He gives 5 speeches a midterm and a final. He tells you exactly what is needed for your speech and its not hard to met his requirements. Offers some extra credit. Doesnt really grade hard on speeches. He is hard to get office time with if you need help but seriuosly i just went to class never read the book and I had an A. Take him.
Great Professor! He does grade difficult. Although, if you follow his speech guidlines you should recieve a A or B on the speeches. I have an A in the class and I know I deserved it. He has a really good personality and tells funny stories
If you go by the guidelines on how to write your speeches then you'll be fine. He's the director of the speech team and is a fair grader so you WILL have to spend time on writing your speeches. Don't buy the book b/c you barely use it. If you have good stage presence then that'll work in your favor if writing isn't your stronger point.
Just follow everything on his guidelines and you will get a good grade on your speech..Also dont buy the book..Didn't use it once!! just take good notes on the lectures and you will be fine! Good Speech topics used too! Recommend for speech 1.
This guy is a very tough professor, he doesnt really enjoy giving his lectures any excitement and because of this i found him very boring and his class dreadful.
The secret to passing this class: KISS A**. Larry is a failed actor always rushing to gigs, who's ego is bigger than the classroom. He likes sushi (bribe?). Laugh at his stupid jokes even if you don't get it. If he doesn't like the topic he will kill the grade. If he suggests a topic USE IT. Follow his formula EXACTLY, do not deviate. Good Luck!
Excellent teacher! A great balance of lecture and lab. Follow directions and structure and he will give you a good grade. You will learn in a easy enviroment how to do research, write papers and speak in public, tools that will be valuable when you transfer. Also, he starts you with smaller speeches and lets you build up to the hard stuff later: )
Larry is good at teaching public speaking. Follow his rules and you'll get a good grade on the individual speeches. He's not so good at teaching the theory, and a little disorganized. He should charge 10 bucks for the printed lecture outlines so his students are not frantically taking notes. He allows extra credit work to improve your grade.
Just follow the syllabus and you will pass. He isn't too critical on grading , but you do need to pay attention.
teacher is ok,but you have to do 6 speeches when most other classes only have 3. as long as you show up every day and do your work you should be ok. tests are hard.and DO NOT BUY THE BOOK! i never even opened it, a waste of 70 bucks. i suggest take another teacher unless you're willing to kiss a** and join the speech team.
Radden's a cool guy, but he grades hard. DO NOT buy the book, he doesn't use it for any of his classes ever. You'll do well and have fun but ONLY if you're willing to put in a lot of effort towards memorizing, following his exact specifications, etc.
One of the easiest classes I've ever taken. If you know how to write and follow his guidelines then you'll get a good grade. But seriously: FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES. They make life easier, if anything. The tests are a joke so don't buy the book -- it's pricey and you'll never use it.
How can anyone not love this guy? What a great teacher. Organized, friendly and helpful. What more can you ask for? Anyone who complains about Radden is off their rocker. Wow, he makes the students actually work, what a horrible quality in a professor (eye roll). Thank you, Larry Radden, great class!
don't take this class unless your willing to put the time and effort into it. DON'T BUY THE BOOK! you won't even open in. and Larry grades very harshly! you must memorize every speech and write them exactly as he outlines them if you want to get an A. BOTTOM LINE... try for another speech 1 teacher.
all he cares about is your outline. he didn't spend any time teaching us HOW TO give a speech, just how to write an outline for his unreasonably high standards. he doesn't care about helping you be a better speaker. i got a B in this class, but any other teacher would've given me an A. don't take him unless you absolutely have to. he's mean.
HORRIBLE TEACHER, I cried, my grades got worse as the summer session went on as I put the most effort i ever have into this class. NEVER USED BOOK, it was the only thing that taught me anything. Cancels class to push 2 speeches really close together. STRESSFUL. Doesn't teach. I was actually looking forward to being a better speaker.WRONG
I had Radden this summer and I was really scared to speak. The 2nd week I asked for an appoinment and he sat me down after class and explained stuff. Most of my class got A or B and we really learned. If you are going to work for it even a shy person like me can do well...WORK and ask for help. One girl got really pissed at him but she sucked!
Super nice teacher, easy class (but you learn a lot). Just be on time on speech presentation days and do your outlines- you'll get an A.
HORRIBLE. This class is for the perfect speakers that follow MrRadden's rules and guidelines precisely. Points are taken away for not doin speech outlines perfectly to his standards, no exceptions. No late work period, marked down for not showing up, speech must be professional for an A, written tests are surveys - ppl's grades suffer in his class.
He seems easy but is definitely NOT. He requires to be on time, participate in class and follow guidelines on speeches. If you miss a class, youcan make up by attending another of his classes. DO make an appointment on his office hours before every speech, he will be way more helpful on one-to-one vs in class. Exams are BS, but worth little.
Not an easy A class. You will have to show up and work on speeches. Requires you to put a lot of effort into speeches, including memorization. If you put work into this class you will learn and get a good grade.
Attendance is a must! He makes everyone partake in class discussion. Speeches need to be memorized and he has tight rules for not showing up for speech presentations. This class requires hard work. He is a nice guy, but is there to teach you, not baby anyone.
Be prepared to actually learn something in his class! No such thing as grade inflation in his class! The effort you put into your work will reflect what grade you get. He is totally worth taking, and is one of the best teachers here at Saddleback. He can seem pretty intimidating, but is a really nice guy. I actually enjoy going to class.
Pretty hard class. He can seem unfair sometimes. You need to work hard for the grade you want. Attendance is mandatory or your speech grades drop one letter grade. You need to come to class prepared You will need to take this class seriously and work hard. It is a class worth taking, but it sometimes seems like it isn't a beginner speech class.
Do not buy the book! He will tell you its very helpful... it's not. You do need to be responsible and show up. Missing class once or twice isn't horrid but you need to do the work. It was my favorite class this semester! He is nice, but excepts you to be respectful in the class. His speeches aren't bad, just follow the outlines exactly. Take him!
He is a really great guy. Your grade is up to you though. Attendance is really needed for a good grade and to know what is going on in the class. At first it seems like a lot of work, but it is completely do able. Always ask questions before a speech day! And be respectful in the class. It is a college class not high school.
I really enjoyed this class! Attendance is mandatory, it will really hurt your grade if you do not show up. Do not buy the book, you will never use it! He is friendly and a great professor! Be respectful in the class and show up on time for speech days. I got an A, but never missed a class and followed speeches exactly.
Extremely hard class, with a lot of work you have to do. Mr. Radden grades your speech like its a doctoral presentation for a communications major. Worst speech teacher at SB. Don't buy the book, you never use it.
No this class is not an easy A, but it is totally worth it. I put time in each week and never missed a class. I talked with him and asked questions. I got an A. Put effort in and you will get the grade you want! Don't buy the book though, you never open it. I 100% recommend him! If you don't want to put in effort or even show up, don't take him
The class seems like it will be a ton of work at the start of the semester, he kind of throws everything at you at once, but it gets easier! He will always sit down down and discuss any questions you have and is always willing to help. It was one of my favorite classes last semester so I really reccomend taking him. It was a fun class!
I got an A in the class and never once opened the book. I attended all classes and passed in everything on time. But this class only demands minimal hours to be put into studying. I barely memorized my speeches and still got As on all.
Larry is a great guy and a great friend. Hes clear and passionate about this class. You get to perform and do little notes. Anyone who has an interest in speech or theatre, this is a good class for you.
I did not enjoy his class. He did not take it seriously and spent the entire time trying to be "young" by trying to be peoples best friends. definitely plays favorites and if good he will try to guilt you into joining the speech team. he grades very harshly and is very degrading when asked questions. not helpful with topic choices at all, dismisive
Take this class if you are already good at giving speeches. Grades are based on memorization, he barely reads the outlines.
You don't have to be good at public speaking to get a good grade in his class, as long as you show up to class, turn in the work on time, and follow his speech outlines the class is a breeze. Also don't buy the book as you won't even use it once. He is very friendly and make sure to pay attention during lectures as he calls on people randomly.
He is a good teacher. If you really want to practice your writing skills and public speaking skills this class will help you out a ton. You actually learn a lot! It is a difficult class though since he requires you to memorize your speeches. The Midterm and final were difficult too. Overall his class is worth taking.
Radden is great! The class is not that easy but it is also not very hard. He is extremely clear about what he wants from each speech. The lectures are very boring and some of the material is unnecessary to better your public speaking, but the speeches are very manageable. He also makes you feel very comfortable in front of the class.
Would not take Radden again. His lectures are not good at all and he makes you buy a $40 textbook which you tear two pages out of and then never use again. He is really nice though and offers two extra credit opportunities. He asks the students lots of stupid questions which no one knows how to answer.
Professor Radden doesn't give clear lectures, his study guides are nothing like the test! It's more than English 1A than Speech with the difference that you have to present all your essays! I do not recommand him at all!
Professor Raddens is great, it really surprises me that his rating is so low. He is crystal vc clear about what he wants from each speech, and the speeches are extremely easy to get at least a B on. He is very helpful outside the class too, you email him your speech for notes and he will get back to you promptly. Easy class!
Professor Radden is easily the worst teacher I have had at Saddleback. He has no respect for his students or their lives outside his class. Would absolutely never take this class ever again.
Extremely tough grader, and grades more on structure rather than presentation. You can have the greatest speech, and move your audience to tears, and still lose a letter grade or two for not having 3 sequentially laid out main points that are clearly stated. Exams are extremely subjective, and the study guides only cover about 3/4ths of the info.
I'm a good student but I have never been good at talking to people. I want to Radens office 2 times and emailed him and he helped me out. Our class has some people that come all the time and about 8 walk in every other week and say mean stuff. He is trying to be fair but his rules and his rules are strict.
Clearly has some passion for the craft but has dysfunctional lecture style that often leaves students uncomfortable. Blames students when he is unclear, can be combative if you try to engage in a question or clarification. Doesn't utilize blackboard. Lecture material is sort of bizarre and unnecessary rather than helpful to the craft.
Well, I HATE speaking and he helped me to over come that. He always emailed me back and was in his office for questions. If you try you can do well.
I have difficulty with social anxiety, this class was rather difficult. Strict on speech format, and you want to memorize the majority of each. You rip two pages out of the textbook for him to grade your speech. If it's a lecture day, he calls on someone at least two times so pay attention. Overall, hated this class but its speech.
Great guy, gives decent lectures and participation does matter during that time as he calls on people. As long as you do the work and make an effort it really is an easy class to get through. Definitely make sure you show up on all speaking days including yours.
Proffesor Radden is rude and is unclear on what he expects from you. He sets these unattainable standards for students and if you dont reach them he compares you to other classes. Doesnt email back and cares more about the structure and outlines of speeches rather than the context itself.
Not a difficult class if you put in the effort, although this is probably the least enjoyable class I have ever taken. He has a forced participation method where he calls people out to answer questions constantly and is very condescending to people that don't answer correctly. He values structure over content in speeches which I found unintuitive.
Enjoy the lectures but thats pretty much it
DO NOT TAKE. Doesn't use blackboard or any type of online websites. Isn't flexible with office hours. Requirements and criteria for speeches is given through lecture and does not hand it out. Takes forever to respond to emails. Doesn't matter If you're right or wrong only if it agrees with his IMCREDIBLY liberal viewpoints. Doesnt teach at all...
Most of my class is doing great and so am I. I have been to is office two times and it super early like 8:00. My class is small and we all help each other out. The hard part is the work but if you do it you can do good!
Professor Radden is a great choice for speech. The course in itself is fairly easy, and Professor Radden does a good job making it applicable and interesting. Doesn't keep you updated on grades, doesn't use blackboard or canvas. Otherwise no complaints
Good class, you will learn how to give better speeches. But do not take if you want a speech class where you can pass by reading off of notecards. You need the textbook but you can get do well on exams from just paying attention to lectures. A negative for the exams is that some of the questions felt ambiguous.
If you don' t like public speaking opt out of this choice and take interpersonal communications. That said, Radden is clear on what he wants so if you follow the rubric on all speech's the class is an easy A!
Great professor and great class. I was thinking about dropping the first week because the course seemed a little scary (speaking for 9mins in front of 30 people) but as time went on I began to enjoy the class and the professor made it easy and fun. Would definitly recommend to anyone!
Probably one of the easiest classes I've ever taken. Classes were not boring and the professor was very interesting and funny. Speeches are mandatory and you can't miss other people speeches. Respectful of your views and open to most topics. Would definitely recommend this class. Good luck.
Not gonna lie, I was scared to take Professor Radden's class when I read some of his reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised. He was a wonderful professor and truly cared about his students. His class is very easy if you are willing to put in the work of memorizing/prepping for your speeches. My best advice: Talk to him if you need help! :)
Professor Radden's Speech 1 Class was one I could never forget. To start he is a very tough grader. He calls people out randomly to ask questions so pay attention. His tests were oddly difficult even though I studied a lot for them. The only reason I got an A in the class was because I put my heart and soul into this class. Very stressful class.
I love this professor! Hes very strict, but hes one of the most caring and kindest people I ever met! If you struggle, communicate with him, & show him you care, hell go above & beyond to help you. Hes super professional & clear on what he wants. If you follow the syllabus & meet his expectations, youll do good! He helped me overcome anxiety!
Professor Radden was rude during class, gossiped with students about other students and we all just listened. If you don't know the answer he will say, "stupid or unclear". Extremely tough grader, unclear lectures, and made me do a speech the day after a family member passed even though people were performing their speeches all week. TERRIBLE.
After already being rude and chaotic with his in class attitude, classes went online because of quarantine with covid 19. His online lesson plan is extremely confusing and he definitely does not adjust well to canvas/online technology. He was always rude when people didn't understand something in class and cares more about structure than content.
If you want to have a professor that doesn't guide you in his class yet expects the best from you then this is the professor you want. Unorganized and nothing is ever up to his standards. Good luck. And if you're taking the course online don't even bother.
The class was cool and the C hit, He was better in class than on line but seemed to push through it. Always returned my email questions. Seems like he learned too because he was not an on line teacher.
I took this class in the spring and now I love public speaking! Professor Radden is one of my favorite Profs. on campus. His lessons are clear, concise, and interesting paired with his great sense of humor. Prof. Radden will make you feel comfortable speaking in front of others by his contagious love for public speaking. I highly recommend him!
I had a solid A. Had a lot of essays/ speeches to present & had group works. I had missed the Final due to a car accident infront of the school. Emailed him about it, never emailed, back and gave me an F for the course. Had to retake the course. He's the chair of the debate team so he expects a lot from students. Tough grader minor errors count
He is a wonderful forensics speech coach that allows you to taylor your speech while providing valuable professional feedback. Basically allowing you to be you by shaping all of your qualities, enhancing the skills that could be better, and protecting what come easier to you as a public speaker.I highly recommend!
I took this class as my first class in college over summer during quarantine and it was surprisingly simple. It was all online and has a textbook but the same information is learned in the lectures. Once I turned in an assignment late and he was kind and let me turn it in for full credit. He gives good feedback and grades hard but has extra credit
You honestly cannot fail his class, because he is always on top of things. For instance his lectures are not confusing like other classes I have attended, and literally everything that is in the lectures are on the test. He sends us reminders and emails on what is due frequently, there's no way you could forget any assignment. Awesome Professor!
Professor Radden is an overall great teacher. His lectures are very clear and easy to understand and the homework isn't that bad. He really wants students to succeed and is easy to contact if you have any questions at all. As long as you watch his lectures and keep up with the weekly assignments you will pass this class.
Really great class! I had an issue with opening one of the assignments and they replied super fast. He gives feedback on every assignment and its really helpful.
Professor Radden was a professor who did well as a teacher. He was easy to contact and was very understanding with grading if you put the proper effort into your assignments. My one gripe would be that sometimes his expectations seemed a little unclear as the student.
Clear instructions, cares about your success, will respond quick and is very informative if you're having any questions. Allows extra credit, just wants you to try and be enthusiastic about your work, as he is with his and towards yours, has great energy , teaches you how to grow as a person and with communication skills as well. Absolutely take!
Professor Radden is an absolute horrible teacher that puts in ZERO work with his students. Would recommend steering clear from him. He is not tolerant of mistakes and takes weeks to respond to a simple email.
Professor Radden is an awesome teacher! He's passionate about what he does and gives great feedback - it's up to the students if they want to take the feedback or not . He always responded to my emails. Bottom line is just put in the work and you'll do just fine.
I took Larry for COMM106 for the speech team and he was a great coach! Thanks to his coaching I was a finalist in my first two tournaments! He is a very nice guy
I took this class online because it worked with my schedule and covid was still going on. This professors instructions dont make any sense. If youre going to take communications dont take it with this professor.
Great speech coach, really helped me a lot my sophomore year with public speaking as a whole!
His class has no understandable structure and his criteria is never clear for anything. He expects so much from you but he literally doesn't put anywhere what he expects until its already graded and you failed. His online course is poorly set up and I highly recommend trying a different professor if you take it online.
I took Raden thinking that Com 1 would be super easy, was not. I did learn a ton of stuff about research, organization, passion. I JUST graduated from HS and I did that stuff. After, I feel like some of the other writing classes will be a breeze. IF you want to learn and be motivated take him if not... Grades fast and will give you zoom. Use that.
This professor left me feeling low and worthless. I missed an appointment with one of his aids for the speech team and he yelled at me in his office and belittled me for having missed the appointment. My mental health at the time was in the garbage, and I couldn't cope. I dropped from all of my classes that semester right after our conversation.
Had professor Radden in 23. I HATE speaking and did not all of the work. I asked for a zoom meeting and he explained I could still do well if I nailed the high point assignments. I'm a Bio major so, they were easy. He said follow instructions, ask questions, pick subjects that you have passion for. Good feedback.
I would like to share my positive experience with Professor Radden during this course. Throughout the semester consistently provided detailed and constructive feedback, which greatly enhanced my understanding of the material. He was clear and upfront about what was required to succeed in the class, making the expectations very manageable.
In my opinion great guy if your looking for a elementary school teacher in college he is not the one. Ask questions, complete works, listen to feedback and make corrections you will be fine. Some lessons were not always so clear but that will happen utilizing online learning. Very patinate to teach others to prefect the craft. Great Professor.
Professor Radden has a unique teaching style, but if you engage with it, you'll learn a lot. His feedback is detailed and helpful. Use unstuck AI for study prep - it's a great complement to the textbook and lectures.
