Salomon is an awesome teacher and has such a great passion for ethnic studies. He engages all of the students into his highly entertaining/educating lectures. Yes the papers are about 10 pages long, but if you go to class, he gives out the answers so they're easy. Totally worth taking! Won't regret!

I would recommend this class to everyone..great influential class and a real mind-opener about the world around us. Exposes a lot of injustices around us and asks for ways to solve the problems. The papers may seem long, but I was able to write them pretty fast since you get into them. Highly recommend!!

awesome teacher. midterms are easy, and the final isn't so bad. toward the end of the semester, people stopped going to class, which pissed him off. so he'd assign hw when class begins, not letting late people know about the assignment. hah! so be on time and don't miss class, cause it'll cost you.

AMAZING!!! super interesting, learn tons and is always a fun lecture. All state kids should take this class. tests are all essay, questions given before hand, quizzes only give you extra credit and the reading isnt too much. you dont have to go to class everyday but hes hot and intelligent so id recomend it!

Larry is the****! I learned a LOT in the class despite catching myself in a daze in his eyes lol...the midterm and final are 10 page papers but he feeds you so much info throughout the semester that they are a sinch. he does grade the final harder than the midterm so just pay attention to the readings and SHOW UP FOR CLASS because he shows movies that you will not be able to get from media acces center!

To get a good grade you HAVE to go to class, but that shouldn't be much of a problem, becuase his class is REALLY interesting and informative.

Larry Solomon is one of those universally loved professors, and I can understand why. He's funny, engaging, and smart. Girls love him, guys want to be him. He makes the critical thinking requirement a breeze, and you'll end up learning a lot of relavent information, not just memorizing the names of fallacies. If you can, TAKE THIS CLASS!

Smart, funny, empathic, witty, cool, nice guy. Knows his stuff, and is flexible when it comes to grading. I always felt he gave me a higher grade than I deserved. He doesn't assign a lot of work, but the midterm is 12-16, term paper is 12-20. The only downside is he makes you buy a lot of books and you'll barely use them.

One of his best qualities is his ability to lead class discussions. Every day we had another one that got sometimes 10, 20 people involved. The quizzes were kind of hard but there were always extra credit questions for people who attended the class before the quiz. He gives a lot of help in class on the take-home essays before they're due.

TAKE THIS CLASS! I'm not a very studious person, but I actually looked forward to going to this class. You learn about the cultural history of the Bay, specifically San Francisco. The material you learn in this class are things you wouldn't learn on any tour of SF. Larry is chill, funny, and an amazing teacher. Lots of extra credit. TAKE IIIITTTT!

Very interesting and laid back professor. Quizzes every two weeks, but really easy. Just make sure you're paying attention to what he's saying in the lectures and read the material thoroughly. One of the reasons why I passed is because he's nice to look at. Beautiful blue eyes.

This was my favorite class this semester. Larry is the chillest guy ever. But, make sure you know what you're talking about if you raise your hand to speak, he'll put you on blast in a second...but only in the most positive way. Go to class, read the book, take notes, do ALL of the papers, and keep in touch with him through e-mail. He's great!

Larry is probably the realest professor on campus. He's more interested in you getting something out of the class through insightful discussion (that's pretty much like a conversation with your friends!) rather than you regurgitating facts from the text. He's very approachable cuz he talks with his students, not AT them.. hilarious guy too!

This class is about how sports affects race, politics, business, etc., however, knowledge of sports isn't necessary. This was a great class, and you will be surprised about all the things you will learn. Larry's a great teacher, he's extremely friendly, and hilarious to talk to. There's only a few quizzes a week, an easy midterm paper and a final.

Signed up for this class with NO knowledge or had any interest in ethnic studies whatsoever. This class is hard or maybe cause I dreaded reading all my life. I somewhat barely read what was required which is why I got C's/D's/F's (lowest grade dropped) on my quizzes. I only studied off lecture notes. ACED the midterm and final and got a B+. HAPPY.

He's a pretty easy and chill professor. You get weekly readings each week and discuss them in class. Sometimes the readings can be as much as 40 pgs, but you do have plenty of time to read them. Plus, the readings are interesting and he tries to find articles that students can relate to. Class Attendance isn't mandatory.

Larry is a really cool guy. Gave really clear lectures and was chill and easy to listen to. Grade based on quizzes which were mostly on lectures but required a lot of knowledge of details and take home written midterm and final. Not too hard. Good to go to class or else you'll do bad on the quizzes.

He is such an amazing teacher! He really opened my eyes to a lot of issues that we normally don't pay attention to. You'll come out of this class a lot wiser. He's also very funny~ always had me giggling.

One of the most interesting lecturerers! He is so clear, and picks interesting topics to teach. Attendance isn't mandatory but will help for tricky quizzes. True that he is very charming and so easy to talk to! So, TAKE HIM! EASY A IF YOU JUST ATTEND! Offers A LOT of EXTRA CREDIT too.

Larry is such an inspiring and passionate. I am so glad I took this class instead on PHIL 110. He makes you aware of the world and lets you ask questions on topics that other classes wouldn't even touch on.He is very knowledgeable and well-educated, but is extremely laid back and does not let his degree do the teaching for him.

Larry is seriously one of the best professors I've ever had. I'm trying my best to take his classes every semester. He loves his job and is incredibly down to earth. He is a funny teacher that knows his stuff. I had him for a 3 hour class and he always let us out in 2 hours and 20 min. He gives you so much opportunities to boost up your grade. His test are fairly easy and note taking is key for this class. For the final its just an essay of what you've learn through out the whole semester

He doesn't take attendance, but if you miss one class you miss a ton of information, so make sure you get it from someone who takes good notes! Assigns weekly readings. Will throw in some bits in the quizzes, but make sure you go over the readings for the final! Highly reccomond a study group for quizzes (which seemed more like tests to me)

He's an awesome guy, will gladly meet with you for guidance one-on-one. Tests are fill-in-the-blank and very easy if you study and take good notes. I looked forward to this class every day, and if I had nothing better to do I would take it again in a heartbeat. Larry changed my life!

Larry is the best professor I've ever had. He truly cares about the success of his students. Make sure you bring something to the table during discussions. Your participation grade counts on it. Homework is easy because the readings are interesting. Take notes and you'll ace your midterm. The final is a 10 page essay but it's easy. Take this class!

Great professor, no textbook, super passionate about the subject, gives funny Daily Show and John Oliver videos to help you understand the weekly material better, as well as great links to online material. Everything is very current and so, so interesting. He's also very nice and understanding if you have any issues whatsoever. Highly recommended!

It would be a travesty for you to leave SFSU without taking a class from this man! He's not an easy A, but he provides you with all the necessities to get the grade you want. His lectures are intriguing and the material is perfectly put together so that there is never a dull moment.

Larry is a great professor. His classes are always interesting and he always wants to know what interests you or what you want to learn about in his class and he'll go from there. He's available for office hours and is always willing to help you get a good grade in his class. I totally recommend his class. Midterm and final are take home papers.

Larry is one of best professors ever! His lectures are really interesting and he is really funny! He always cracks jokes and is super chill and understanding. He'll even buy you coffee if you run into him in line somewhere. If you do not do well on a quiz or test, don't worry there are a lot extra credit opportunities!

Larry is pretty chill and really tries to connect with his students. He doesn't like being too formal but he's definitely knowledgeable about the history of ethnic studies and its importance today. He doesn't assign much homework and is open to discussion. Would definitely recommend, one of my favorite teachers.

The concepts taught are very simple, nothing too crazy and philosophical. Just show up to class, do the readings, light studying, and put some effort into the final and you will get an A. As for Larry, he's a good looking guy and many students look up to him. I personally thought his jokes were a bit corny and he's slightly mean spirited.

So class is fun and informational. He really stepped back and took us into the problems of the past and present. This made us care more about what we were learning because it was relate-able. Noooot to mention he has gorgeous eyes and is handsome. Makes the class even more enjoyable, but he definitely has the personality too :)

Larry is a super dope professor who always gives context from past history to connect to today's world. He expects the class to participate, and gives out a lot of articles to read, however if you're interested in social justice you'll realize they're real good reads. Book wasn't used too often - most readings were emailed links.

Professor Salomon is a great professor, but this class is definitely a decent amount of work. I would say it is pretty hard for an intro level class. Despite this, Salomon is a truly inspirational professor who works hard to give a clear view of the subject and is accessible if you're willing to ask for help.

I took this course online over the summer and it was great! There were about 4 quizzes and a final paper. Also, there was an extra credit assignment towards the end. Larry is a great professor and I would recommend him to anyone!

Had him for RRS285, was a interesting and passionate professor about sports and history. Very knowledgeable about sports trivia. Not much HW except for reading, most quizzes and test based on the readings and he allowed to be taken with partners or open note sometimes. 2 Final essays, 3-4 pages, super easy to write.

Had him for RRS285, hands down my favorite professor . I don't know much about sports but hearing how passionate he was really got me interested and i've learned a few things since. It was quite a few readings, but were quit einteresting. Definitely will try to take another class with him in the future. Plus, he's charming &amp; verynice to look at ;)

Larry is probably the best professor at SFSU. He is funny, smart, and extremely genuine! As a person and as a professor Larry is great. Ive taken pretty much all of Larry's classes and passed with either an A or a high B. He likes participation. Also if you catch him during office hours he will buy you food and help you with whatever you need!

I'd recommend attending lecture and doing the assigned readings, he discusses them during class and adds on extra information too. Tests are mainly based off lectures, and a few questions from readings. Makes the class fun and enjoyable, he's been very helpful. Also offers lots of extra credit opportunities. Professor Salomon is very funny and gets the class laughing, which in turn helps us become more engaged. He teaches to educate and not just for a paycheck. I highly recommend taking his class. During the transition to online schooling (due to COVID-19) he did not make the class any harder, he instead felt for us and never gave more hmwk than needed

I 11/10 recommend for anyone! This class is easy and not a lot of work . He gives papers to read ( not a lot , very durable) . Typically talks about them in class. Super chill nd funny . Easy A. Super funny ! He makes class engaging ! Work is not as heavy but you do have to keep up with reading which is not heavy reading but you do learn a lot because he does speak about it all in his classes ! He makes classes in an environment you do what to learn ! And he always responds to emails fast or any questions you have !

Literally my favorite professor/class I've ever taken. He's super funny, sometimes the tests are difficult but you get used to it. Going to class matters because a lot of what we discuss is material on the test in addition to the weekly articles/videos. Definitely want to take a course in the future with him!!!

Amazing professor! He's super casual though, so be prepared to feel more like you're in a fun book club. He really gives you the space to be yourself and express your ideas, and if you just do the reading it's easy to get a good grade because he clearly wants his students to actually succeed.

Fantastic class. Larry is super down-to-earth, and he wants you to succeed. Just make sure you come to class on time, say something sometimes, and you're good to go. The class contents change every semester depending on current events, which lets you have a closer look into issues that may affect you personally. Highly recommend this professor.
