Good professor. Very strict. DO NOT MISS A TEST. Missed one because I had the flu. With a doctors note and medical history stating what the doctor observed from the date of the exam, he still gave me a 0. Would have had an A.
He's very strict but he is very knowledgeable and explains the material fairly well. Works a lot of relevant problems in class that are in similar difficulty to the ones in the tests.
He's a hardass for sure, but go to class. You have have HAVE to understand what you are doing to do well on the tests, which are pretty tough, but manageable. I had to retake the class because I never went the first time around. DON'T MISS AN EXAM. If you finish homework before the deadline there's extra credit. Tough, but better than Barker!
He's an OK professor. His class is tough, but manageable and he most definitely curved our final. Just stick with it and do all the problems he assigns whether they are graded or not to the best of your ability and you can do fine. He is extremely OCD about rules and really annoying though..
Good teacher. Do ALL homework problems, you'll do well on the test if you understand those. Do your best on the exams, they are 90% and HW is on 10%. Gives very detailed lecture notes
Decent as a teacher. Bad as a person. Lets his emotions get in the way of doing his job. Gets angry easily and often. Just goes through example problems in class. May or may not help you if you go to his office. Depends on his mood. Grades tests very harshly. Won't work with you on getting points back like most other engr profs do.
Clear teaching in class with many examples. No help in office hours. Rule stickler. Harsh test grader
Pretty good professor. His tests were difficult but if you understand the homework you will do fine in the class. I had no problem with him all year so don't necessarily trust what you hear from other people. He isn't that bad just ALWAYS attend class and understand the homework and you are good to go.
Clear, detailed examples in class. No help at office hours. Do all of the homework and understand the material for the tests. Hard test grader. Thinks he is really funny, big ego.
Good professor. Many examples from the book done in class and assigned for homework. Not many real world application examples in class. Tests are not hard, but when you do miss problem, you will be counted off for it. Do the homework to understand what will be on the test.
This guy can be funny at times. Lots of examples and homework with every class though. Tests are pretty hard. Go to class and pay attention and you'll be fine
Dr. Sharpe is pretty good at explaining concepts. He can be very sarcastic- don't even THINK about taking a picture of his class notes! His tests aren't too hard, but the grader for the hw was harsh. Help for this class was very limited.
Didn't think Sharpe was a good professor at all. Provided little to no help or extra explanation of concepts, only had 2 exam review sessions all semester, and was sarcastic and even rude at times. His tests are hard, make sure you go to class. No curve whatsoever. I'm very happy to be done with this class.
Make sure you read the book. He tends to teach using examples in class, and the homework are harder questions utilizing the same concepts.
I recommend Dr. Sharpe. He is very focused on what he teaches, and does not tolerate nonsense. Occasionally, he will throw in dry humor to his lectures. As far as tests are concerned, they resemble the homework.
I think this will be my first grade in college that isnt an A. He explains too quickly and expects you to know what he is vaguely saying. Homeworks are really hard. Test problems are easier, but you have to really really work and study and do a lot of problems
I have taken Sharpe's statics class over the summer, and i'm in dynamics right now. He is a very good teacher. His tests are tough, but very representative of his homework. If you want a good grade just go to class and do the homework, and study your homeworks thoroughly for the tests. He gives a lot of partial credit. I would highly recommend him.
Dr. Sharpe may expect a very particular format for homework and exams, but he is upfront and honest about the format that he expects. He is very clear with his explanations of the material, and typically follows the textbook. He assigns a significant amount of homework, however, his exams are far less work than the homework. I liked the class.
New book shrekt him and everyone else. If you failed the first test, hang in there, he curves the class. If you don't have any faith in yourself after the second test (20 points below average on both), take a W, big boy.
Not the best lecturer considering how hard the material is. When asked for study material he responded with "No... I want you to struggle through this". There are only 3 tests and they are worth 90% of your grade.
Tests are very challenging. He doesn't manage his time very effectively. Spends almost the same amount of time correcting his work throughout the problems. Writes extremely messy, class size was over 140, doesn't allow computers or tablets out during class. He shoves as much material as possible in 50 mins and goes over a lot. STAY AWAY!!!
Very easy class, if you've taken any entry-level engineering or physics classes this should be an easy A. Homework is far harder than the two tests and the final, which are weighted very heavily.
Dr. Sharpe is a nice guy. His lectures are boring although he does have a decent sense of humor and cracks jokes occasionally. Tests are not tough if you study, but they are each weighted 30% so you can't mess up. Lots of people drop this class after failing the first test, but just study, do the homework, take notes from the book, and use Chegg.
Lots of homework that's very hard and counts for a very small percentage of overall grade but if you understand what you're doing on the homework then tests will be easy. Tests aren't too hard if you study but there's only two plus a final so you should definitely find the time to study. Draw coordinate systems on all problems. Review sessions suck
Dr. Sharpe is the better of the 3 professors who have been known to teach statics. As long as you show up to class, take good notes, pay attention well, and ask questions, this class is not terrible. That material is very difficult, but if you go to Sharpe during his office hours he is willing to help. He has a good sense of humor during class.
Best of the 3 statics prof's. The class is bare bones with only his lecture notes and the book as any resource. Only 3 exams so if you fail any you fail the class pretty much. Understand the homework and study for tests and you're golden(NOT EASY). The book is confusing, so go to office hours for help. TA reviews are useless don't go unless urgent!
Sharpe is an exceptional professor. Has a great sense of humor and makes you actually understand why you do things in statics. I took him over summer, and his class was one of my favorites are UT. He gives a lot of homework but it is completely necessary, and his exam materials come from it. Would take again in a heartbeat.
Sharpe is just okay, he's not great but he's not awful.
Professor Sharpe is a little unorganized at times, but he is hilarious and full of knowledge. His tests are tricky at times, but if you attempted his homeworks you should do fine.
Took him 2 semesters ago and he's still the best engineering teacher I've had throughout college
All around a great professor. He tests are extremely doable and similar to his assigned practice problems for each exam. 2 exams and a final all worth 90% of your grade. Other 10% is hw. Taking him for mechanics for sure
Unorganized lectures, takes 10 points off if you don't use pencil. Awful
DO NOT TAKE HIM. He does not care for his students nor does he grade his final and assigns random grades and doesn't answer to emails.
Dr. Sharpe is one of the more personable engineering profs. Tests are pretty straight-forward, homework is very manageable and helpful. He's also pretty funny. He only owns two shirts and one pair of pants, so if your professors walks in and isn't in a blue or purple button down with gray pants, it isn't Dr. Sharpe. Would definitely take again.
Dr. Sharpe, a very straight forward professor when it comes to learning material and what he expects from you as a student. He gives a very reasonable homework load, and gives plenty of time to complete it. He also like to crack slight jokes in class to make his lectures better. He has been my favorite professor so far, definitely would take again.
Great professor. Works through lots of examples in class. Homeworks and tests can be difficult so I would definitely recommend forming a study group of at least a few people.
Best professor Ive had yet! I took his class over the summer, got mid 50s on my first exam, but pulled out a B. So don't be too worried if you bomb the first exam! He goes over really good examples and will help you if you go ask questions during his office hours. Really funny guy too. Hope to have him again!
I had Dr. Sharpe for both Statics (202) and Mechanics of Materials (321) and loved both classes. For whatever reason, I've heard some people say that they don't like his teaching style, but I love it. As long as you go to class, take notes, and participate during lectures, you will be fine.
What an terrible professor. Showed up to every class and still told me that I should give up on the material. Never available for help. Expects everyone to get the material first try. He is arrogant and intitled. Do not take his class.
Sharpe is the definition of fair. If you put in the work, you will be rewarded. Lectures are sometimes unorganized but he is a good teacher. Graded by just tests, so make sure you ask questions if you have them. Weekly homework that is similar to test questions. Sometimes he is not available in office hours and does not answer emails.
Id say be prepared for the test but there is no real way to prepare for them when he tells you to review everything. then nothing on the test is even close to practice problems. it feels like studying for a football game and then showing up and being told its actually a soccer game. very hard grader, light on HW, grade is very reliant on tests.
I see a lot of people hating on Mr. Sharpe but the truth is if you put in even the slightest effort, you will be fine. Easy A for me. 3 tests each worth 30%, but they are cake. Lowest grade I got was a 95. Really not sure why people dont like the guy.
The only grades we got were from the 4 or 5 tests we took during the semester. You can tell that man just did not want to be there. Not very understanding of peoples situations during COVID. Specifically told us to not email him. The only good aspect of having him was that lectures covered everything you needed to know for tests.
Professor Sharpe never responds to emails, and publicly embarrasses you if you ask a question he thinks is "unnecessary to answer." He has acknowledged that online learning is difficult especially for test-taking and does nothing about it. Instead, he increased the grading scale to make the class even harder to pass. He does not enjoy teaching.
Professor Sharpe, while a decent teacher, is one of the worst people I have had the displeasure of interacting with. He lacks basic decency and compassion for his students. Avoid him at all costs if you care at all about how your interactions with him will go. I would have rated him a 0 if i could.
By far the worst class I have taken so far, largely due to Mr. Sharpe's teaching incompetencies. Sharpe does not care about you or your grade---he's there for the paycheck. Show's 0 compassion and will not work with you to fix issues that arise from internet, sickness, etc (no make-ups!). An A in his class is 95% or above. 4 Tests at 23% each :)
Dr. Sharpe is the worst communicator I have ever met. He does not teach well, does not care if you learn anything or pass. He will not email you back and his in person communications are like talking to a wall. He has no care for his job and responsibility. The class is a simple subject but with him teaching it is the hardest class I've taken.
I have had Dr.Sharpe for ME 202 and ME 321. In both classes I struggled and was not given help despite seeking it. He brags that he ALWAYS responds to emails, but he has never responded to mine. The exams occasionally reflect homework problems, but often are over things he mentioned once off-handedly. Some people love his teaching style. I do not.
Sharpe is the most difficult grader I have ever had. There were a total of four grades in the class that were all exams, and a 30% deduction on makeup exams(even with doctor's note). He rarely responds to emails. It is possible to pass his class but not easy. Do homework when assigned even though you don't get credit. Make sure you know your units.
One of the most selfish and arrogant people I have ever come in contact with. He seems to enjoy being the most knowledgable person in the room and wants to keep it that way. It is obvious that he does not enjoy teaching. He doesn't care for his students understanding or success. I went to his office hours and he basically told me I don't try enough
Sharpe was quite difficult, but the tests were similar to the homework. He tells you that if you do all the homework and understand it thoroughly, then you'll be good on the exams, and I'd agree. On the homeworks that I put in minimal effort, I did bad on the exam part. Show you understand the material well on the final and he'll probably pass you.
One of the worst professors I have had. He told our class getting excused from an exam was almost impossible by mentioning that getting in a car accident wasn't reason enough to be able to retake an exam without getting a 30% deduction. Would not recommend.
Very bad professor on a personal level. If he is your only option, you can definitely get through his class if you study hard and work har though. He just totally lacked compassion when I took his class. He attempted to make it where no one could take make up tests. In the middle of covid he attempted to make it where no one could take make up test
He is uncompassionate and has a total lack of empathy for his students. 90% of your grade are exams and he is a tough grader. He is inaccessible outside of class, and it is very hard to get a response from emails. If you have no other choice, he is funny and a good lecturer. His class is not impossible but he is harder than most other professors.
total psycho, inaccessible outside of class, rude, no effort as a professor. take anyone else. seriously he must be depressed.
Some professors want you to succeed, and then there's Dr. Sharpe.
This class was extremely exam. I've never met a tougher grader in my college experience then Sharpe. Each exam would be around 5 questions and their was partial given but not much since. At least a fourth of my class dropped after the first two exams and those that stayed got rewarded with a large curve on their final grade.
This class was a disaster. Lectures are pretty disorganized and unintuitive, and Dr. Sharpe expects you essentially memorize every little detail of equations/concepts. You have to memorize tons of various long equations for tests that should be given on an equation sheet. The textbook is a far better teacher than Dr. Sharpe. Take someone else!
Only grades in this class are exams and he is the hardest grader I've ever had. There is no extra credit. He lectures fast and doesn't post anything online, you're also not aloud to take pictures of the board or record anything to study or write down later if you're a slow writer. Take anyone else you won't learn anything from him anyways.
Sharp is the hardest grader for someone whose only grades for the class are exams. He will also sometimes ignore a question in class saying things like "I'll tell you later." He has a snarky tone and has even claimed in class he will rarely ever admit he is wrong. If you have the option, take another professor. If I could write more I would.
Only test grades, arrogant, attendance isn't mandatory but strongly recommend going to lectures if you wanna pass, anything he says in lecture can be on the test even obscure things. Most of the time if you ask him a question he will never give you a response you were looking for. Just make sure not mess up any tests also or u will not have fun
This is the worst professor I've had so far. I went to office hours to get help w/ the homework, and he provided little to no help. It felt like I was being berated by him for not knowing the material well enough. He is arrogant and shows no interest in teaching. Also there are 3 exams that are 30% of your grade each and the grading scale is HARSH.
This man is the absolute worst and could not care less for the students in ME 202. Class is not insanely hard but do not expect any real help from him.
90% of your grade is exams, which are graded harshly. Almost my whole class did not have enough time to finish his exams. He is also fairly inaccessible outside of class. I found it very difficult to learn through his lectures and did not find his assignments to benefit on exams.
The class is very hard for only being worth 2 credit hours. However, it is very manageable as long as you show up to lectures and put in a good attempt to learn. Contrary to other reviews, I thought Mr. Sharpe was pretty nice to students and was a very good teacher. The exams are hard and account for 90% of the grade but curves were given.
Avoid at all costs
Do not take this professor. He is impossible to contact outside of class, never responds to emails or any of the discusrsrion pages, and if you go to him after class for a question, he is very mean and rude, and doesn't actually help you. Instead, set up appointments with the study center- they're you're best hope. Worst professor I've ever had.
Dr. Sharpe gets a lot more hate than he deserves. His exams are very similar to his homework, so if you keep up with the homework you will do fine on the exams. I find Dr. Sharpe's lectures to be very good, and if you go to his office with good questions prepared he will be helpful, and every time I went to his office he was very friendly.
Horrendous both as a professor and an empathetic human being. You do not matter to him. Unreachable outside of class. I have had all A's in the honors engineering program until his course I currently have a 40 in. Can't say something without it being snarky. Microwaves his pillow each night before crawling in bed. Eats plain oatmeal for breakfast.
PLEASE DON'T TAKE. Whole class is made up of exams. Average for first exam was a 57 and the second was a 63. He only gave a +12 percent curve on the first exam. You need a 70 in the class and currently more than half of the class is failing. He always has a smug look when telling those exam averages as if he enjoys his students suffering.
Class is 100% weighted on exams. Exam averages are never higher than 65. Most people drop/fail. The man is a good teacher but the hardest grader I've ever endured. The homework is optional and he doesn't even post keys to it.
You WILL NOT be set up for success AT ALL. no answers to his HW, misleads you on what to expect on the test, harsh grading, useless text book, ok lectures, does not post lectures, will not respond to emails. recommend watching Jeff Hanson on YT to get through this class. failed the first two tests and did good on third test after discovering Jeff.
Dr. Sharpe provides everything you need to learn, you just have to be self motivated enough to do it. Homework isn't for a grade, but it certainly isn't optional. He will give answers for homework if you just ask, and it gives you everything you need to succeed. His lectures are great. Just listen to them, do the homework, and you'll succeed.
Anyone that says just come to class and pay attention is blatantly lying to you. The averages for the exams are all failing. Around 30% of the class dropped for the final, and I imagine another 10-15% after grades are in. Yes, there are those who can succeed in this class, but they are so few compared to the majority that will fail under Sharpe.
I'm convinced all the positive reviews must be from Sharpe's alt accounts.
Dr. Sharpe generally does the bare minimum as a professor. He wont respond to emails, so the only way to access him is to go to office hours even for a simple question. His class is graded by 90% exams, there's 3 and they are like 5 questions each. So you screw up one exam question it dramatically drops your grade. He is also very tough at grading.
He just has a sour attitude to him. I was not a fan of his teaching method and it ended up not working out for me. He's a very harsh grader and kind of rude about it as well. The class average for the first exams was in the 50's... however, I do know his way of teaching is beneficial to some.
Sharpe is one of the worst professors you will likely encounter. He will not help you succeed, nor does he care about his students in general. He truly is as "sour" and "disrespectful" as others are saying on here. You can know your material and still fail this class. I believe only 20 of us passed his class... most people were wise and left early.
He has to be the laziest professor I've taken. Whole class is made of exams and the final. He posts questions for homework, but never takes the time post the solutions, just the answers from the textbook. The only way I passed was going to his office hours and he basically told me what problems were going to be on the exam. Doesn't answer emails.
Plenty of other reviews of this prof have already been left that sums up what I experienced, so I'm not gonna go into detail. Experience was so bad that I'm a 3rd year engineering student that has never cared to leave a review but I'm coming back to do this one after having no option but to interact with him again for ME 321. Take someone else.
His lectures are okay, I did his class online so I was able to watch them over, but I had to supplement them with you tube videos. He is very flakey, In my experience he never answers emails within 72 hours if he answers them at all, the times I went to his listed office hours he just didn't show up and never made an announcement of it.
Exams are 90% of your grade. Exams are usually easier questions than HW or textbook problems, and less than 5 questions. He can be rude during lectures; you're better off teaching yourself. I highly recommend checking out Jeff Hanson's statics playlist on YT if you have this prof.
The worst professor I've had. I had COVID and a bad migraine for the last exam of summer semester and sent him an email that included my pharmacy test results that asked to make it up. He then accused me of cheating and didn't email me back again for a week and a half. He then scheduled it for 7:00 on the first day of fall classes. So frustrating
I understand the hate for Dr.Sharpe that most other students have; however, I thought he was an amazing professor, and I learned a lot from him and his class.
Dr. Sharpe is a pretty overhated professor. He's a great lecturer, is always willing to help if asked, will happily go over homework problems in class, and also has a pretty good sense of humor. He grades tough, which is probably why he gets hate, but as long as you put in the work you'll do fine with him. TLDR: Great teacher, tough grader.
He says to do the homework and pay attention in class but the content he puts on the exam is nowhere near the homework and class content. The average for the first exam was in the 50s... and the lowest grade was a 7. Sure, a select few may not know what they are doing but I think the grades are more of a reflection of him than of the students...
So nice, had to take him twice.
If the only section available is taught by Larry Sharpe, DO NOT TAKE THE CLASS. Majority of the class fail, no curve, he will talk all class but doesn't teach. He has a good personality but he is NOT meant to be a teacher. Take any of his classes with another professor and you'd pass 50x easier, take it from me and everyone else.
Poor teaching, Asking him for anything is less helpful than cheggs. DOES NOT POST ANYTHING FOR EXAM STUDY, DO NOT EXPECT ANY HELP FROM HIM. Usually don't even have a good explanation for what he is doing, freshman year professors were way better, idk how we got a downgrade
Exams are 90% of the grade which isn't normally an issue, the issue comes when the class average is a 56 and the other sections are in the 70's and 80's and he doesn't offer a curve. Take any other professor and you will be much better off for it.
Worst experience with a prof. Exams=90% of your grade, no curve even when the CLASS AVERAGE IS A 56. Genuinely attempts (and succeeds) in making this class hard and agonizing. When he found out the online homework (which sucks) offered explanations for problems he removed it. Can't teach. Do not take this prof if you value your GPA or your sanity.
Great lecturer and teacher, he knows his stuff and is very helpful with answering questions. Anything that's on the exam will either be included in the HW or lecutre, so as long as you show up and do the work you'll be fine. He has a bad rep because he actually expects something out of his students and won't hand hold you. He will curve if need be.
3 exams including the final worth 90% of the grade. No curves on midterm exams even with class averages being 56 and 57. He talks all "lecture" but solves problems independently with little class engagement or taking questions. When someone asks a question, he answers it very vaguely and points you to other sources to figure it out.
He is amazing great lectures make sure to go to class. Very over hated because he expects something out of students and when you don't deliver he doesn't deliver you anything higher than an F.
I Love this professor. Very great lectures and extremely informative. Never fail to learn a bunch in his class.
Dr Sharp is slay
He is awesome his tests are tough but very good teacher.
Dr Sharpe is slay he makes everybodys days he taught me matricies and arrays he should have a show on broadway
Literally awesome. This professor teaches very well and knows a ton. He runs Baha and is very nice when you show that you care.
Every time he puts t-beam on the board he make sus say go Vols. It is just great super awesome professor.
Respectful and funny all at the same time. Encourages you to get involved great professor.
Super awesome. GO VOLS!!
Offers a bunch of explanation and answers questions very thougholy. Likes to teach and encourages you to get involved.
Awesome guy very funny. Great class hard tests.
Dr Sharpe cured my cancer
I love Larry. He is hilarious and gives good lectures. His only downside is his exams are hard, and he grades heavy. Besides that, he is an angel of a human being.
all homework is due at 5, he's a very nice caring person and wants to help you... until he picks up the pen to grade your exam, but will most likely end up curved, for the record he had one exam average a 50 and said this was what he was wanting/ expecting but that it was going to be curved, overall very nice person but practice practice practice
Makes a easy class so much more annoying than it needs to be. Very dramatic and disrespectful. 90% of your grade is exams. I would recommend avoiding this guy.
He grades super hard on tests but has really good lectures. Be prepared to study a lot but he does care about students if you demonstrate you tried and willingness to learn and improve. He added a ton of points back to our tests.
Sharpe gets a bad rep because he is a notoriously tough grader and his lectures are sporadic, but I think he's wonderful. Just understand that he's busy so he grades tests quickly. I went to his office hours and he gave me almost 10% back. I took him twice and his tests are exactly like the homework he gives so if you do that, you'll be fine.
Yeah he gives hard tests and the only way you can learn is to follow his lectures that can be crazy at times, but his class is not impossible to do well in. Take notes, review them when you get home and then do the homework and you can so easily get a B-. Walk into his class ready to study and do a lot of homework and you can absolutely do well.
I took Sharpe for both ME321 and ME202, and I got an A in both. He gets a bad rep for being a difficult professor, but if you go to class, do the homework, and study then his class really isn't hard at all. He has helpful lectures, and he often curves test scores significantly. He is also very funny at times. I only wish he posted grades on canvas.
Had Sharpe for both statics and materials and he was great for both. He's an informative lecturer and is also pretty hilarious. If you take him in the fall, he'll open every Monday by talking about football. He'll never put anything on an exam that wasn't covered in class or hw, and is flexible with office hours. Great professor, unfairly hated.
will lecture about something once then will never answer questions about it again and will say he "doesnt lecture twice" or "the answers in your notes already." hes fine if you know what youre doing but if you dont he is horribly unhelpful.
He is frankly awful, and I envy the students who have had good experiences with him. At many times he seems to desire to be as unhelpful as possible, he is beyond tough with grading. He curved our first two tests by over 10 points each, because having a class average in the 40's for those assignments looks bad, according to him.
He is an awful professor, doesn't explain well in class found YouTube videos more helpful than his lectures. Not recommending his class.
he is creepy towards girls
Sharpe is a great lecturer and is clearly passionate about teaching. He'll expect you to put in the effort for exams, but he's a great professor overall.
Easily the worst teacher I've ever had. They don't teach, barely explain anything, and expect students to magically understand. The homework is absurdly difficult, way beyond what's covered in class. Grading is unfairly harsh, and they seem to enjoy making students struggle. On top of that, they're rude and dismissive. Avoid this class if you can
He'll ask if anyone has questions. If a female raises her hand, he'll ignore her, but only answer male's questions????? I find that very odd. Is he bias?
This professor is one of the best I've had at UT. His lectures perfectly match the homework problems, which are representative of the content present on exams. His exams are difficult due to the time limit, but they are exactly what you would expect given the homework problems. Additionally, the text book is very useful.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHH. no no no no no no no no no.
Good teacher, lectures can ramble but good enough. Doing the practice problems helped the most.
Don't do it you will be miserable. Each test is 3-5 questions and worth 30 percent of your grade, the homework is far beyond what we learn in class or that could be explained by the textbook. I had to teach everything to myself because he's all over the place in lectures and erases the board before you can understand what is going on.
Avoid Larry Sharpe at all costs if you value your GPA or your sanity. His lectures are completely incoherent he just rambles at the board while muttering equations without explaining where anything comes from. He is the hardest grader I've ever experienced, the class average on exams was close to 40%. This should not be right, avoid him if you can.
Larry Sharpe is by far the worst professor I have ever come across. He hates his students and feeds of their doom and despair. If you value mental health and GPA DO NOT TAKE. He makes everything difficult, my life improved dramatically after dropping his class.
Don't take, I'm begging.
Just... do not take him. you wont get anything out of it.
DO NOT TAKE. Get any I MEAN ANY different teacher. He does not know how to teach. He claims he wants his students to succeed, but does not make the effort to do so.
Should be fired but he has just been there so long so he has immunity. Do not take 0/100 he sucks, would never take again. If you are a student studying engineering and have to take his class, drop out and go to a different school. The school does not care enough to hire better teachers. He should not be a teacher.
Avoid taking courses with Sharpe, no reason to take a much much more difficult class with him when you can have a walk in the park with another professor.
Dr. Sharpe is a good teacher and knows what he's doing. He's clear and explains things well in class. If you're taking Dr. Sharpe for ME 202, I recommend diving into the provided textbook. Take time the night prior to class to review the next day's section and read up on what you'll be covering. Dr. Sharpe uses class time mainly to solve problems.
ive taken him multiple times and he is a good teacher but makes class unnecessarily hard. learning outside of class is hard since doesn't respond to emails and doesn't post solutions to the optional hw. tests are long and difficult he leaves you no time to think. will say he is prob the best option tho you just have to work really unfairly hard
Grading scale is harsh. 2 midterms and a final at 30% each and the other 10% is homework, which is once or twice a week. His lectures can be helpful but he tends to ramble and things can get very convoluted. The textbook is your best friend, learn to use it. Also the solution manual can easily be found online, lots of help on his homeworks ;)
Please do yourself a favor and never take this guy. Honestly, he made me question my worth as a student over a course that most people can easily pass. DO NOT DO IT. SERIOUSLY EVER.
One thing about Sharpe is that all of his notes are written on ONE whiteboard that he constantly erases to write more. If you try to take a picture, he yells at you for using technology. He posts no notes or practice tests online. The homeworks are convoluted. You have three tests (30% each) and the homework (10%). Take anyone else for this class.
Sharpe is good at lecturing, he is not bad at teaching the topic. It is his grading that gets annoying, with 90% being exams which can get docked 10 to even 20% if you even forget to box an answer in. The average on both exams was a 68%. That is below passing and he talked about how amazing that was. He's good at lecturing, just terrible at testing
Sharpe is a great lecturer and he answers questions often, but the class is entirely test grades. The tests never covered anything unexpected, but they did cover a lot of material in a short time frame. If you were good at statics and/or you are a good test taker you will do fine in this class. If you are not, take someone else.
simply great
He is the worst for ME 202, he lacks manners and also bad at teaching. look for somebody else.
If you need to take ME 202, don't take Sharpe. While he's a very good professor, knows what he's talking about and explains it well, the homework is so hard, the tests are even worse. Few questions, takes off lots of points, doesn't explain what was done wrong, not super welcoming in office hours. Got ignored many times, hand raised, men didn't.
Sharpe is a good teacher, but the main problem with the class were the tests given. They are 90% of the grade, while homework is only 10%. He did curve some of the tests towards the end which did help out a lot of people. To get a good grade on tests, you have to get almost everything correct, otherwise he will take off points for little things.
Absolutely would never take again. Not a fair grader, no power points or textbooks other than homework problems.
Highly based lecturer. Very good lecturer, and exams are easy as long as you do the homework
Dr. Sharpe is goated, his lectures are very good and the homework is exactly what he taught. Exams are easy as long as you understand how to do the homework.
Very strict grader. Getting every question right and showing adequate work isn't enough to pass the exams if you don't include little things that he wants but doesn't tell you. Lost 20% for not including something that didn't relate to the question even though I got the answer right. Avoid at all costs.
Sharpe is extremely based. He's super helpful and he will curve exams if people get low scores.
If you go to class you will be fine. He is great at lecturing and will answer any questions
Make sure you read the textbook. Exams are fast-paced, but the problems are exactly what you'd expect if you do the homework so it's not a big deal
Dr sharpe is the new Charlie kirk
I ship sharpe and barker
Dr sharpe should be cast in wicked
My favorite sharpe moment was when he whipped out his sharpie and proceeded to Larry William sharpe all over the place
If Larry Sharpe built the twin towers, they wouldn't have fallen
I always consult Sharpe while playing Minecraft to do stress analysis on my builds and make sure they are sturdy
I wish I could have sharpe for every class
I love this man. When I saw his lecture I realized that the titanic wouldn't have exploded if they had been like men like this back in the day.
Really enjoyed this class. Most students that put bad reviews play on there phone the whole time and are salty they get bad grades bc he expects you to actually do work.
Tests are everything. If students actually studied for them he would be an at least 4 star. The average for our tests were in the 50s. (I got all 100s) I genuinely do not understand these students.
This guy is the structures god he is cracked up to be. Take his class and you shall learn young padawan.
It was legendary. Even after the finals content stopped he kept talking more about beam deflection. Bro does it for the love of the game.
Feels like a real engineering class. Take you seriously and expects you to take the class seriously. Far cry form the light work freshman classes.
Sharpe teaches like a hard boss in engineering industry. He expects you to have done research and reading prior to class and know exactly what you are doing on your tests while providing evidence to support your answer's claim. You will learn how to deal with strict and more stubborn higher-ups in engineering firms if you take Sharpe's class.
He stood unshaken, a voice in the storm A man of conviction, a heart reborn He spoke the truth when the cost was high He lived for Jesus, unafraid to die We are Larry Sharpe, we carry the flame We'll fight for the Gospel, we'll honor his name We are Larry Sharpe, his courage, our own Together unbroken, we'll make Heaven known A husband, a father, h
This class was so slay. This guy is one of the funniest busters I have met. Luckily he went easy on everyone with the assignments so I could focus on nuclear engineering core classes.
ME321 with Dr. Sharpe has hands down been my favorite class so far in my college career. You learn a wealth of knowledge and actually retain it. He has some of the best lectures and is more than willing to help you out as long as you are trying. Dr. Sharpe even helped me out with another class on multiple occasions. I highly recommend taking him.
