Fun Class & Funny Teacher
No Comments
Professor Silva is a very fun teacher, very helpful and keeps you interested. wish I could have all my professors like him. He is the best
I had him for Read 90 and he was awesome. Helps when asked and is one of the chillest teachers ever. He just started teaching Read 100 and Silva is still very helpful and fun about it. RECOMMEND STRONGLY! BEST READING TEACHER OUT OF ALL OF THEM!
GREAT TEACHER! HAD HIM FOR READ 90, THEN MOVED ON TO READ 100! IT'S NOT FOR DUMMIES! THE READ 100 CLASS IS TRANSFERRABLE! AND THE TEACHER IS REALLY CHILL!!
I had him for Read 90. He's great. Makes the class fun and interesting. He's totally willing to explain things and help you out when you don't understand. Super nice guy.
to be real, this guy was a jerk i seriously don't reccomend him. he assigns a grip of work. and always speaks his one-dimensional, republican mind. another brain-washer. if you want to learn, not this dude. if you want a few chuckles and a few high-school level pointers, go for it. keep in mind you're paying some hard earned cash for this class.
Great professor, had him 4 read 100 and he explains the material very good despite it being his 1st time teaching 100. His class is always fun and sometimes controversal(in a good way). IF you pay attention, the class is hery easy! I recomend him to every 1
hes so cool, matter of fact hes standing next to me. lol your the best silva.
Had him for 90 and 100.. don't know why I took 100 though.. either way he was nice in both classes. Better than the other reading teachers. Just do the projects correctly and you'll be fine.
professor silva is a strick professor i would never take him again because i think he is the worst teacher every on earth because he does not axcept late work and does not care about the students.
Larry Silva is a great professor, but he can have his bad days. Anyone that did not understand his work is a complete idiot!!! He can grade hard, but it's only for his student's benefit. He can also be intimidating when u ask him for help. It seems as if he becomes fustrated with you : ( I find him humorous though.Overall, i enjoyed his class!
he was overall very understanding and generous. He does give a lot of work but it is usually never hard. It is just time consuming. Make sure to read the rubrics so you know what he exspects from your projects. He is very nice and layed back :]
worst teacher ever! i took it over again to get the grade higher and the teacher i have now is better than him! he does not explain how to do the work he assigns i have other friends who have said that too!! not a good teacher!
good teacher yup yup!
For the first time I had a professor that I liked very much! Im a very shy person in class, but in his class I felt very opened. He does give a lot of work, but its all a matter of time. And he does not accept any late work unless you ask for an extension.
ok teacher. close minded- he either likes you or he doesn't/
Everyne should take Silva!
He is the best teacher in the whole wide world. I have learned a lot from him and he makes the class so fun and interesting. *<Lynda>*
The Coolest teacher do your work and show up to class and your golden!!
Larry, is an amazing teacher. Incredibly funny if you develop a bond with him, which shouldn't be too hard because he's very nice. BUT do your work, and get on his good side. Easy class, no problems. - JC
HE IS A VERY GOOD INSTRUCTOR. TEACHES WELL, BUT A LOT OF WORK!! IF YOU DO NOT HAVE MUCH TIME FOR HOMEWORK (A LOT) DO NOT TAKE HIM. PLUS THERE'S GROUP MEETINGS OUTSIDE CLASS FOR A CERTAIN PROJECT. IF YOU CAN HANDLE IT THEN TAKE IT. OVERALL HE'S A COOL PROFESSOR.
Larry Silva is a great teacher.. He was really helpful in read 80 and now im taking him for read 90.
professor silva is the greatest professor. if you enjoy laughing and paying attention in doing work than i refer you to take him. in order to pass his class you have to do everything and even go to the out of class meetings. it is very interesting. he explains everything clearly and helps you out if you are stuck on something.
Recommended by my own boyfriend. By far the best class I have taken at Mt. Sac. Great class to communicate with others, fun atmosphere to be in. Whoever fails this class is a moron.
This class is easy as long as you show up and do your work on time and not at the last minute or in the hallway meanwhile your waiting for him. For those who have anything negative to say thats because you decided to do your work at the last minute rather than get it out the way and before you know it you had so much work and it was half a**.
Pretty easy professor. Rarely assigned homework, but had four projects assigned during a 16 week semester. Class was usually discussion about everything BUT reading. But he still taught effective reading strategies. Easy grader as well.
He talks about everything except reading. HWis never turned in, the grade is based on four projects which is 200 points. Getting A is very hard, dont expect to do the project on Monday when its due Wednesday and come out with a C, but just incase you did not like your grade, he lets you resubmit every project one more time. 15PTS MAX EXTRA CREDIT.
AVOID THIS TEACHER!!!!!!!! HE GRADES VERY HARD!!! THE PASSING RATE OF STUDENTS IN HIS CLASSES IS 70% WHERE 30% OF HIS STUDENTS FAIL THE CLASS. ISN'T CLEAR ON THE PROJECTS! TALKS UNNECESSARY INFORMATION. HE SAYS THAT THERE ARE NO EXAMS, BUT THERE IS A 100 PREFIX EXAM. BAD TEACHER! TAKE MS. CEVALLOS INSTEAD!
This class is very hard for a reading class. 4 projects that are hard and annoying to do! Take professor Cevallos instead!
AVOID AVOID!!!!!
This teacher isn't too bad, just need to keep with the workload. U will need to read a book with others, a 50 vocabulary project, & other stuff...... Class is a little bit hard for a reading class.
i love this teacher he is the best and he loves to have fun with the home work if i could take him for every classs i have i would he is a ez A and you learn a lot by him thank you YES take him :-)
LOVE IT !!!!!!!!!!
take him i had fun in the class
Excellent instructor. There are only 4 projects which are 25% each.
He's kind of a chill professor. 4 projects which are pretty easy but it will require a little bit of effort.
one of the best instructors ever. Very easy just do his work, he like's to keep it chill, tell's lot of story's and likes to disscuss things that are going on in the world. i definitly recommend him if your looking for an easy A
Even though I did really well in his read 90 class, he is not as easy. You will need to work hard in order to earn an A. I suggest u look for another reading teacher. Take Ms. Cevallos for your reading classes. This teacher doesnt grade easily. He is vague about the projects. Otherwise take the class for pass/no pass option.
choose him!
If you want to take a teacher who does not care about passing you, then take him. Around 30% of his students do not pass his classes because he grades the projects hard. Take Cevallos please!
Honesty Mr. Silva is hard. I didnt understand what he exspected from me. I thought i understood how to do the projects, but i guess i didnt...He grades hard. I passed by thr skin of my teeth, literally lol..Besides that he is a very intelligent instruor and i learned a whole lot more than reading in his class..A great person overall!!!
He is a good mentor for a new college student. He teaches you how to become a leader or a hero. He will give all the information to help you to succeed in a college. If you are not ready to take the challenge, don't take his class, you will failed.
Silva is a great professor. He is not hard, you just have to keep up with his homework and projects because they are heavy. Listening, paying attention and attendance are the key to passing his class. He explains everything and if you have questions you may ask. You will learn much more than just reading strategies. Take him!
more of a Life, Self Reflection, Skills for Success Class. He has good intention but can come off as prejudice. He is a fair grader.Makes you participate in class discussion.Goal is to make you think outside the box to help reading comprehension. His assignments can be unclear and he puts people on the spot.Ignore it & work hard on assignments= an A.
Mr. Silva was a great professor, he helps you learn way more then just reading. Because of him, I am actually starting to enjoy reading. he is not easy, but he is fair, he provides as much support as you need, you just need to plan accordingly. I would recomend this professor to anyone...
really helpful for new college student, but for long time students too. not only does he teach reading strategies but how to be a better student, person, and achiever. his work is easy but time consuming. dont procrastinate. dont be late. dont wear Pjs (his pet peeve)
on a regular day, this professor will let people go off topic, Has favoritism, and when it comes down to grading, he will only take a quick look at your paper and will not take the time to grade it.This probably due the his procrastination habit when it comes to grading! However, he changes your view on life. you will learn to so much from him!
Wow!!! Take his class I highly recommend , he can be hard on you but only to show you he cares and he knows you can do better , you will have to read and do discussions and summaries in class which are fairly easy and you will have projects , I actually enjoyed :) DON'T SLACK OFF!! I passed with an A :D
Oh my goodness. This teacher is a hot mess. To be honest with you I didn't learn anything in his class that had to do with reading, even though I did pass his class with an a. One thing I did learn was standing up to teachers for your own sake. All he talked about was himself and nothing else. I would not recommend this teacher to no one.
Horrible professor. He has favoritism and he talks about himself 99.9% of the time. He likes to judge, criticize, and put down students. Barely talks about anything that has to do with his class. I do not recommend him at all!!
Self Responsibility !!! Take him!!! just be hardworking , have humor. He put me on blast once but that helped me recognize he really cares about his students and knows if you got it or not , he helped me grow a lot as a student . Don't try excuses he's heard them all be responsible , polite and you'll be fine :) i got an A+
Took him for a lcom class because it was part of a pathways program. Very unpreparred, talks about himself all the time and enjoys starbucks. If u do the assignments he asks for it really doesnt matter you will still pass the class. All he cares for is effort.
the first few week in his class was almost like i had my own personal therapist . but i was more in his class i was surprised that i enjoyed it so much yes he is one of those professor that go on and and on about his life but when he is done talking about it he story you realize that it had a purpose be prepared to take criticism from him
Great!
class was easy, he mainly talks about current issues and has class discussions that last 30 mins or more, but it was entertaining. doesn't take attendance, but does assign homework that's worth a lot of points. overall i actually liked this class.
Professor Silva was so inspirational! I took this class during summer as my second semester here at mt. sac and it definitely was a life changer. His lectures are so insightful, it really opened my eyes to life I gained a new appreciation because of it. This class is more on life than it is on reading to be honest.
He's a great person I'm sure but just not a good teacher. You want someone who cares about helping to progress you're future, right? Oh he does that and more. he'll go on and on about him, about his life and what he's doing. Then he'll tell you discouraging remarks to snap you our of your whole life. Be hard working and your pass that's all I got.
I would have never thought about rating a professor. But, Professor Silva definitely deserves one! He is the first professor I have ever actually learned from. I loved going to his class every day. He's very inspirational and he's an amazing, understanding, man! I have so much respect for him! You learn so much. Take him!!! You will NOT regret it!
Silva is great! I took his class in the winter, and I learned so much about him and more importantly myself in his class. He truly does care about his students, and he pushes them because he knows what they're capable of!! I believe he played a big role in my life. If you take his class go into it with an open mind and show the man respect!
Professor Silva is an awesome professor. He genuinely cares about each and every one of his students. Silva helps to provide a comfortable environment for every student; to speak openly about a certain topic without criticism or judgement, and loves to hear what you have to say. Homework is simple, YOU JUST HAVE TO DO IT.
Great professor, very kind, and genuine and really cares for his students. He's a very intelligent man, and will inspire you and open your mind, I took his Read 90 class during spring of 2017. It was worth it, a lot of fun and you will learn skills that will not only help you in other college classes, but the rest of your life. Also teaches Read100
Terrible professor. The purpose for the "reading" class is to let students have skills to read college level test books. Also the grade should be related to the "reading" skills, not speaking, not writing, not drawing. How can he evaluate the students' "reading" skill just rely on"How is your weekend?" "I need the picture for the homework"
If you want to pass this course, the only one thing is to catch his eyes in the class, and make him like you. Oral communication is more important in this class than "reading"!!! My reading skill can make me get "A"s for my other 15 units' major courses in this semester, but still not good enough to pass this class. College? Graduate level reading
Ive taken Silva for Read 90 and Read 100. Professor Silva is very caring, respectful, and an amazing professor. VERY honest and genuine. All that is required is to take your work seriously. Helped me not only with his class but others I was taking as well. I am truly grateful to have taken his classes.
I had taken Larry's online class for winter and it was the most difficult online class I've ever had. He had us do about 14 to 18 assignments due in 6 days. He would email days later and always have an excuse for his late responses. Most of the assignments would be unlocked the same day and time they were due. It was very stressful.
No clearance on assignments, really suggest you take others. No waste of your time and money on his class. participation matters a lot.
Do not take him. There is nothing you can learn in this class and go take someone else.
I should not take his class and I regret it a lot. this is extra class and I need not this class to transfer. please avoid.
Dont take him. He is nice but he doesnt know how to teach at all. Just speak in class rather than read in class.
dont take him.
I learned nothing in his class, all he talks about is all about his real-life bad experiences which is why he always cannot focus on teaching all the time. stay away from him
Widest professor in the world.
Nothing to learn. I took it long time ago. This professor shall not be hired to teach even if professors are in high demands. Nice person but teaching needs more training.
good professor, hard grader.
Nothing to learn got bad grade. Please avoid him at any costs.
You definitely need the textbook being that it is discussions about the text or you won't pass.
He is good teacher, but there is nothing you can learn in his class. I recommend other reading professors, not him.
Nice professor, but not good at teaching, I would be friend with him not the teacher.
nothing to learn in his class. took him a long time ago. he is good at complaining not teaching. this class shall be verbally complaint based class.
He is not good at teaching. please select other reading professor.
This class was all done online due to COVID-19. There's nothing much to say because we had to learn everything on our own. He simply posted modules on canvas and we had to complete them in a week (around 8-10 assignments a week including quizzes and papers). Haven't heard any responses from him since the class started.
No lectures, no study guides You must read the entire textbook for quizzes/tests/essays Weekly workload: 2 quizzes + 6 discussions (3-6 questions per prompt with 2 responses each) + 1 response paper 1 midterm, 1 final This class is a TON of work. If writing isn't your thing you will struggle Expect to spend AT LEAST 20-30 hours/week on this class
If you want to learn a subject, this is your professor. If you want to slip through school on the easiest path, don't take his class. However, let me warn you that the road in life isn't easy so toughen up now. Just "do the work." You want a real college experience where you can tell people that you have to study, take his class.
I wasn't able to interact with him as much as I would like because our class was online but he cares about you and how you're doing in the class. He will give great feedback here and there but keep in mind that there are a lot of assignments that he is grading. His course had a lot of assignments but they make you think and learn!
If reading isn't an issue for you this class is an easy A. I really don't like reading, but the book is actually interesting which made the reading not bad. His assignments are very clear and if you follow them you will get full credit. He will actually read your assignments and leave a comment showing that he cares about his students inputs.
Do not take him, his class was so hard that nobody could understand him. you had to make him like you to do well in this course. take somebody else.
Dont take her, she has favoritism, and she has to like you so you can do well in this class. Stay away from her. Really awful
one of the worst professor ever in the world.
Avoid him, she doesnt like teaching, she doesnt like you then you will get bad grades, avoid her
The worst professor ever, she doesnt like teaching, she always put students down. If you dont like her please drop the class and save your time
The worst professor Avoid him
Nothing to learn in this class, awful professor. Avoid him
really terrible professor, put students down, really bad at teaching. awful
awful and terrible professor. the worst psychology professor. he does not deserve to teach at Mt Sac. really awful
really bad teaching, awful professor, favor certain students in class.
fine professor, but nothing to learn in his class
He is fine
Really bad at teaching dont take her
awful professor, assigned too much work, avoid her at any costs. you have to make her like you to pass the class. really terrible at teaching.
Keep delaying grading assignments, awful professor who has negative attitudes, he should not be here to teach any classes
This professor has favoritism, he is more worst than I thought, he should be fired
Get one question wrong? 0points. Which is completely unfair. I have this vibe about him I feel like he doesnt like teaching. And I dont think he likes his students. He can use better words when trying to help students. He comes off mean and demanding if you do all the work CORRECTLY u will pass. Will never take again. Should listen to reviews.
DROP HIM, AVOID, DO NOT TAKE. Ive never had to drop a professor before this one. Accidentally miss 1 out of 5 questions on a simple assignment? ZERO. To make it worse the instruction is NOT clear, so its easy to miss a small part and get a zero/incomplete on the entire thing. Horrible at replying to emails, so you cant get clarification. Regret.
Awful Absolutely awful The worst professor at mt sac Dont take him
To be fair, I do like this professor. I just don't like how the class is structured. If you miss one question, then you would get an entire zero on assignment. He gives us feedback and does care about you.
Stay away from this man, very awful professor, Favor Mexican students in class. Miss one question means zero on the assignment. Very awful
I'd love to take a part 2 for this class. If there's never a part 2, I might just take it again. 100% recommend and I fully believe it helped me pass my other class.
Pretty easy class as long as you follow the prompts and answer each of the questions. Did not grade papers on time, especially major assignments. Also did not give any feedback. There were some techniques I liked learning about, but I also found myself not fully agreeing with what was being taught; course all focused on "positive psychology."
This class is unbelievably unorganized. There is not a clear understanding of which assignments are meant to be completed and which ones are not as there are assignments marked as "missing" with due dates dating to the previous semester. During lectures, he never reviews the actual material and will have off-topic conversations the entire class.
Although this professor was an easy A, the majority of the class was spent discussing politics, some of which could be considered controversial and upsetting. I felt stressed each time I went to his class and always dreaded going. If you actually want to learn, I recommend taking another professors class.
Extra credit was given every week except one week. There are discussion boards and chapter study quizzes every week. He is straight to the point and doesn't give lots of announcements. There were 3 response papers. Save the chapter study quiz answers because they will be on the midterm and final exam.
Do not take this prof! Class is unorganized, he doesn't give good feedback or return assignments in a reasonable time. He also makes every topic about politics. His political views are very clear and controversial. Honestly it is upsetting and makes me uncomfortable in the class, but I need this class to transfer. I wish I took a different prof.
I was worried after reading the reviews. I worked two full time jobs while taking this class and still got a A. Assignments were clear and included specific detailed instructions. Practically held your hand all you and to do was put in time and effort and read the actual chapters. I would take Professor Silva again. Fantastic and fair.
Had 3 diff classes. It's about 35% teaching 65% preaching about his own political/social views. Uses too many personal anecdotes and ends up going on tangents. Views can be upsetting & controversial. Work is doable; good for an easy A. Said some valuable things w/ good intentions, but if you want to learn and not be preached to, take a diff prof.
I really enjoyed Professor Silva. He cares about his students and is really easy to talk to! One of the best professors I have had in a LONG time! Weekly quizzes and exams are easy if you go to class and stay on top of lectures. 9/10.
Class was an easy A, but I don't feel like I learned anything. So much extra credit it was kinda a joke. This guy talks politics more than actual psychology. One of the worst professors I have had at Mt. SAC.
Very unorganized, unclear on what assignments are due, goes on personal and political tangents that can often be uncomfortable. No feed back on assignments, For my class he graded all assignments the day before the final, I'm talking like assignments from the beginning of the semester.
Professor's lectures tend to veer off into politics more than actual psychology. However, the class is fairly easy with lots of extra credit. Using tools like Unstuck study alongside the textbook can help navigate the disorganization.
I wish I could give a 0. This Prof. should not be teaching a class on sexuality. He spent more time rambling on about his political agenda then talking about course material in the text. He regularly relied on his "expert" opinion and contradicted the text. Students that shared personal examples were mocked or made to feel uncomfortable. Stay away!
Really easy class, it is a fun class to take to learn more about yourself and positive psychology. He does take a while to grade assignments, and he is a tough grader. I turned my assignment in a couple of time if you don't respond to people in the discussion, you'll get a zero as a whole instead of half credit.
My experience during this class has been quite positive. Although some students found the professor's focus to be solely on politics, I believe he effectively uses real-world examples to illustrate complex concepts. I'm glad that I never paid attention to the reviews.
