Basic writing w/ bio emphasis
Lectures are boring and are unclear. The class itself isn't too hard.
SO BORING!! I feel asleep every class! It was really easy though, I'm glad it's done!
He's a nice guy, but the class is horrible. Probably the worst required GE class here. The worst part is that he expects you to take it seriously.
This class was awful. I hated every minute of it. Every class period was like being beat with a stick for an hour straight. I'm glad I never have to take it again. He was rude to the students and his tests were horrible. Sadly the class is required.
very bad class, teachers were very unorganized and the ta's were usless.
I found this class to be interesting. Dr. St. Clair did a great job--he knows how to teach well. The team teacher who taught some of the lectures was awful, however. I learned a lot in this class.
Dr. St Clair doesn't design the course. There's a whole committee of people. So don't blame THAT on him. Dr. St Clair was wonderful and if I was willing to go see him, he was always willing to help me. If you go to class, you'll get an A...it's simple
He's a great teacher. He explains everything thoroughly and cares immensely for every student in the class. If you have any problems, concerns, or questions he embraces them without becoming annoyed. He is witty and quite entertaining, like a father.
Much better than his team teacher. The class is still pretty boring, though.
St. Clair is entertaining - he has only one open eye, is constantly pulling up his pants and is always yelling at Isaac, the TA (Isaac, if we could go back to the first slide of the lecture outline...). Boring class, easy tests.
Well, I liked Biology when I started. Now, I'm not so sure. The tests are a little sketchy. You have to have an awesome TA- luckily, I did.
Very entertaining and knowledgeable. Really cares about the students.
I'm sure he's nice, but I hated every friggin' minute of this class. Badly organized and too friggin' hard to be a GE. I never went to a lecture where I wasn't overcome with unstoppable sleep. Awful class, I wish it weren't required. (the only thing I
Terrible class. Badly organized, repetitive, very basic material, and stupid projects that don't teach you anything at all. You don't even really need to go to class -- it's just a very dumbed-down version of what's in the textbook. GE, unfortunately.
Pretty interesting. Nice guy, somewhat funny. Not hard to get a good grade if you go to lecture.
Awful class, but it was sometimes fun to watch St. Clair because he has only one eye open and always keeps pulling up his pants like Chris Farley in that "van down by the river" skit. Awful class though. Didn't learn one thing.
This guy sucks at teaching. He cant answer real questions. The only challenging part of class is trying to stay awak in the lectures. The guy has one eye closed looks like a pirate and is always pulling up his pants. hes also always yelling at his TA's, "Isacc Next slide please. ISACC!!!"
Tests are just from the notes that you buy at the book store. Casual notes in class and attendance at the test reviews will give you at least a B+. I hit up an A- with about an hour or two of study before each test.
LEGEND! Fall asleep in class a lot, but its okay because i only miss like two lines from the notebook cuz people ask stupid questions and waste time. Quasimodo. Yessssssssssssss.
He was totally unapproachable in his office. I came with a question on the test, and he wouldn't even listen to me, then gave me a 30 minute lecture about grade grubbing. Get a belt and get a life.
What an awful class. You can certainly tell that he is a scientist because he uses big words and it is hard to understand what he is saying. The poster was real dumb. And the tests were stupid.
Very nice guy, knows his stuff. A lot of busy work in the class.
Nice guy!
The whole class was about stupid memorization of words and phrases. Nobody cared whether or not the student understood the system. And so were the tests
I hated the class to begin with, but after I started understanding what was being taught I really enjoyed the class. Brother St. Clair is a SUPER nice guy! I found that he was really willing to help his students understand what he was talking about. Test I found to be kinda hard. You have to study..
Worst class i've taken by far. Grade depends alot on TA's because it is not curved. For example, one of my room mates... just turned 18...he's a bio 100 TA. Final was a joke aswell
This guy has got to be the biggest jerk I've ever met in my life. I have never had a professor that was so condescending! I would not have taken this class, but it is a GE. Try to find a way out if you can! P.S. He looks like Quasimodo. Sorry, that's mean, but he does.

gets offended if you fall asleep or comment on an opinion that is different than his. uses the same phrases over and over again. the class in general is interesting if you like science, but the teachers aren't that great. him and cates team teach. if you do all the work, you get at least a B.
I did horrible in this class. Didn't understand one bit and hated Biology at the time...later retook the class at BYU/SLC and passed with a 96% not because it was easy but because the other teacher actually got my interest. St. Clair did not catch my attention once.
Ritarded class. Not as bad as everyone says. but harder than physical science.
st. Clair is not a good intro science teacher. he doesnt realize that most of his tudents do not care about Biology and he does not do anything to help them to learn. Take some other class to fill your GE req.
This was the lamest class I have ever taken, including some of those high school science classes.
I got a B in the class but I don't remember a THING about it. None of it made sense and I forgot everything as soon as the test was over. I've been told the Honors section is way easier and has a better teacher (plus no dumb poster!)
His lectures were very boring. He just read the powerpoint, didn't really try to explain anything. He wasted time trying to tell dumb jokes that didn't make any sense. The material on the test was not from lecture or the book.
this is the worst class EVER!! The worst part is that everyone has to take it.
St. Clair is a wonderful professor. I learned a lot. I would recommend this class to anyone.
Bro. St. Clair is the nicest and funniest Book of Mormon teacher. There wasn't a whole lot of class discussion, but the tests were really easy. I am glad I took this class.
This class is way hard. Make sure that you keep up in reading. Just pray that you have a good TA. The tests were good because they were short, but they were bad because they were pretty hard, and some questions seemed to be trick questions. Read them carefully!
All I can say is that the tests are way hard, and there is so much stuff to do. But if you keep up with everything you should get a good grade. Luckily tests aren't worth everything. Pray you get an easy TA.
Nice guy, but the class was so dumb. You have to take it b/c it's a GE, but I'd definitely take it from another professor just b/c Cates and St. Clair make you do the big poster project that other bio professors don't. The poster project is that bad, so yeah take the class from somone else.
He was SO rude in class. He'd yell at us if we "weren't taking enough notes." He was so boring and unhelpful. I hated the class. Avoid at all costs!
This class was probably the biggest waste of time and energy in my life. I am very sorry that everyone has to take it. DO NOT take it from Cates and St. Clair they are worthless as teachers. If you have no other choice, just hope you get a good T.A. and read the book.
This class is so large that you will have very little interaction with Professor St. Clair. Your grade will basically be dependent on your TA. Make sure that you have a good one!!! They will grade your assignments and help you review for the tests.
I was amazed at how interested Dr. St. Clair is in his students. I had the priviledge of talking to him one on one in his office and he was very accommodating to my needs as a student. He explained every question I had and offered extra help with studying for the tests. He's an incredible person and excellent teacher!
The man has good intentions, but i think he forgets that we are not all experts. He goes off on tangents alot and does not thoroughly teach the material. In high school I got all A's and loved Biology. Now, this is the only class that I cant pay attention to and learn things from. It sucks, because I try to, but his teaching makes it impossible.
hes a nice guy, but make sure you do the assingments. tests can be hard, but there are a lot of other assignments to help boost your grade so dont worry about it. TAs though, GET A GOOD ONE they can make or break a class
He's a nice guy, but he sometimes gets off on tangents during his lectures. Also, he'll yell at you in front of the whole class for ten minutes if you fall asleep, which is very easy to do in this class. Tests are hard and have nothing to do with the lecture or the book. There is also a lot of outside work that isn't necessary in other GE classes.
This guy is a terrible teacher. I mean, half way through the semmester you DO NOT have a problem finding a seat (nobody comes to class). It full of stupid busy work (which is the worst). I hear that Honors Biology is a lot easier and a lot clearer, so check it out.
He's a great guy who tries to accomodate his students. He has a very droning voice, however, and speaks as if he wasn't quite sure that he knows what he's talking about.
i hate to say it, but this guy makes this class a miserable experience. from pointless homework to random test questions, i would avoid this professor at all costs!
This guy doesn't know how to teach!!! Do not get into this class. He made our last test at 2 in the morning and everyone bombed it because he is so DUMB!!!!
Most boring teacher ever. Pointless homework and busy work. You do not learn anything from lectures. Very vague and tests don't make sense.
This is a tough class. The lectures are entirely too boring and the tests are very hard. Brother St. Clair isn't the best teacher. Watch out if you take this class.
This is a hard and boring class. Tests questions are very poorly written and unclear, and there is no curve in the class. If the class average of a test is 70%, its because "no one studied adequately," not because it was a bad test or he didnt cover the material in class.
Oh my goodness...This class was soooo boring! They gave us pointless homework and the tests were worded badly. The poster project has nothing to do with what we are learning and they didn't help us at all. If you love yourself in the least bit, do not take this class!!!
He is to date the most useless 'lecturer' I have ever had.
worthless class, it is better to take something else to get rid of the GE requirements. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU HAVE A CHOICE. the stories of busy work, lectures-labs-and home work that do not connect are all true. the class is not worth your time
Guys, the goal is to rate the teacher not the class. Bio 100 is VERY hard, but Mr. St. Clair rocks. Just ask for help and he is absolutely willing and happy to help. He will give you tons of free points as long as you show you're trying.
Dr. St. Clair shows that he cares a lot about the students, but it is just too big of a class for it to matter. His lectures are usually filled with much more detail than a 100-level class should be. The tests are awful and obscure. I think he would be a good prof. is a small class, but he comes off as a jerk in this class.
I was told horror stories about hard tests and busy work before i took this class, but i haven't gotten anything less then a B on a test. The "busy work" is a quiz or assignment or two page paper due once a week. I always did it a few hours before lab, no big deal. The tests are very reasonable and they tell you exwhats on them.
StClair is a jerk. He is the rudest teacher I have ever had at BYU. I asked a question in class, and he actually *yelled* at me, because he thought they'd already covered what I was asking about. I've gotten A's on all the tests, so they're not too bad. But the poster and the lab section are torture, and St Clair is really a jerk.
wow! VERY nice guy and always willing to meet with you outside of class even though you have a TA for that. his tests are kinda hard, but he gives a detailed study guide for each test. hes very patient with students, and i bet the student below me tried his patience a lot. i never saw stclair yell at anyone and cant even imagine it really!
I started out wanting to learn but just gave up. I feel bad for him because he has to teach such a HUGE class so he isn't able to help much. Lectures and lab were NOT helpful (but my TA was hot). I did hard cramming before tests and got an A for the class. Get in a good group to do the poster! I did it alone-thus I am bitter.
Not my favorite class here at BYU. Lectures were a pain to attend, and if you have a chance to take it from anyone else, that's what I'd recommend. The assignments were pretty easy, but your grades depend mostly on your TA anyway.
Awful teacher. Focuses not on the important aspects in a general sense (it is a GE after all), but gets far too complicated into subject matter. Tests are worded poorly leaving room for two and sometimes three different answers in an MC test. Stay away! Get another teacher! The only redemption here is your lab grade!
YAWWWN!! Sorry, ever since I took this class, just hearing the word "biology" makes me fall asleep. Horrible lectures. Impossible tests. Perpetual busy work. Disgusting class. Any questions? Oh, and don't forget about THE POSTER! If you offered me $10,000 to take this class again, I wouldn't do it. Yes...it's that bad.
I thought this class was pretty easy. Just read the chapters and somewhat pay attention in lecture and you'll be fine. Definitely not the most interesting class I've ever taken though. Fell asleep almost every class...lots of busywork too.
His class was so unorganized I couldn't handle it. Yeah, it really isn't to hard outside of the tests but it is just an annoying class to take. Just very confusing I thought.
It annoys me that some people have called him unorganized. He has been the MOST organized biology professor I've had at BYU! He gave us regular hand-outs every class, and if you studied the concepts on those hand-outs you can really excel in his class. And go talk to him during office hours he is so willing to help you succeed in biology.
A challenging class. The assignments such as the poster (a science fair project) and the "MediaLabs" we silly and a waste of time. I did learn a lot, but spent a lot of time frustrated with those assignments. Be dilligent in doing the assignements, take good notes, study hard for the exams, and you can get an A. (Like every class!)
Very Frustrating Class!! Take online or SLC Center. He goes so fast it spins your head, and expects you to grasp concepts that he doesn't mention. Very hard class. Also tons of work! I spent 4-5 hours more on this class than all other classes together. Plus class is huge, 800+ students. I Wish i had never taken this class.
Professor is super easy, loved this class!
This class sucks!
I really did not enjoy this class or this teacher. He freaked out on our class one day for being disrespectful and not appreciating the time that he and Cates put into the class. It was pretty funny. My Lab TA was good, that was about it.
Boooooo! Yikes, this class was hard. There was always a way smart kid that would contradict him, and he would stumble around with his words and say the kid was right. Not impressed with him at all. Plus, he freaked out on the class one day in my wife's section. Cookoo! Only take this from him if you have to.
He is a really nice guy, kind of grandpa like. Things didn't always make sense but it was easy enough to look it up in your book or ask questions, just make sure that your questions make sense so he knows what he needs to answer. Some(most) of the work seemed like busy work but it's best just to do it.
His tests are ridiculous. His teaching style is obtuse. He has a lazy eye. But truly is a nice guy, he just needs a better way to teach this cattle-call class. I didnt learn much. I failed most tests but worked hard in the Lab and got a B in the class. Take him if you have to.
AVOID THIS CLASS AT ALL COSTS! Though Prof. St. Clair is a nice guy, I learned more in my Biology class my sophmore year of high school than in this class. The tests were poorly written and the Poster project was awful. It was essentially a research paper pasted on a big poster board-and you can't do a research paper as a group!
I did not like professor St. Clair at all in Biology. But he is by far the best religion teacher I have had at BYU. His tests are take home essays and are not hard as long as you pay attention. He really knows his stuff and makes his Book of Mormon class more than just a glorified seminary lesson. He genuinely cares about his students and
The worst class/professor of my college experience. Prof. St. Clair would be better suited for the private sector rather than the academic. I strongly recommend taking BIO 100 from a different prof. if you actually want to learn something.
This class isn't as bad as everyone says it is. Sometimes the lectures can get a little boring but I felt like I learned quite a bit. Bro St. Clair is a very kind man and goes the extra mile to help his students succeed.

Stclair is an awesome teacher. He is constantly working to make his class better. I hate biology but he made it bareable.
they are rude and cranky... they were nice sometimes... but then again they teach like 4,000 students so I would get cranky too I guess.
Anyone who says this class is tough is an idiot. Just read the chapters, go to the review sessions and you will get an A. Yeah St. Clair's lectures are marginal, but he is a plain old nice guy. I have zero interest in biology and I'm telling you the only way you cannot get an A in this class is if you are LAZY.
Brother St. Clair always entertains dumb questions but usually is helpful
No Comments
this class was the bane of my existence. the only thing that made it bearable was my awesome TA and hearing st. clair say "next slide please, jordan. can we have the next slide on the left?" about 20 times each class. i want to meet this jordan kid.
His tests are kinda hard. Very boring lectures, but then again its science how interesting could it be. He is nice, and always starts his class off with a prayer. I'd take him, but then again how many other professors teach bio 100?
This class really is okay. Just read the textbook. I repeat: READ THE TEXTBOOK. He's a pretty good teacher. He knows what he's talking about. And about this Jordan guy: I think he's a robot that runs out of batteries every once in a while. ("Next slide, Jordan...Jordan? Jordan?! Never mind. Um...class dismissed.")
I wasn't to bad. I got an A and i hate science.
St. Clair is good guy and always has good intentions but the lectures are a lil bit boring. As long as you read the text and go to labs its not too bad. I only went to lecture half the semester and i did fine in the class.
My best advice is to go to test reviews with BRIAN JORGENSEN or get him as a TA! He is an awesome TA and has helped me get good grades on tests. The class is fine and Prof. St. Clair is a nice guy.
Dr. St. Clair is a great lecturer, but he tends to leave his tests standardized. He doesn't always cover whats on the tests. But he has a small ability to listen to reason.
Bring a pillow to large lectures, do all the busy work, and study the test review guides for each exam. The keys to success in this class. It is really not too hard of a class, but it is "nit-picky".
lectures are kind of ridiculous on some days. class is overall pretty easy. there are weekly assignments: 5 questions each that apply to a specific scenario. super easy. if you have trouble, you can go into the lab & the TAs will just give you the answer. two exams during sem, then the final. not too bad, just do the review sheet and it's cake!
He knows what he's talking about for sure, but he loses me when he starts going off on things.
A difficult class. I love the professor but hate the way he set up the class. The only reason I lost points in the class (aside from tests) are not related to the course (off-topic issues - using tertiary sources, answering non-biological questions incorrectly). Very difficult class.
I've heard so many bad things about him, but I really like this guy. The class is not the most exciting thing ever, granted, but it's not hard. You get so many points for cake assignments that an A is pretty attainable. Dr. St. Clair is really nice and could easily be a lot more boring than he is.
Horrible Class. Group Project is a pain, if there is any way around it... don't take this class. 6 people can't write 1 paper
Class is ok. Group work is literally the stupidest thing in the world. "none of us is as dumb as all of us" ring a bell? Too many cooks spoil the broth? Now you know how ridiculous writing one paper can be with 5 people. And his helpers only create work for themselves so don't tell us that they work so hard. Lame lame lame.
A horrid class really. Lectures managed to make me know less about biology than when i started. He goes off on insane tangents. However, sanity came in the form of TA Brian Jorgenson. Get in his section, he's a super easy grader, lenient, actually teaches something, is hilarious, and easy on the eyes.
Dr. St. Clair is the worst professor at Brigham Young University!!! STOP DO NOT TAKE Bio100 from him if you do it will make you hate Biology and you will learn nothing!
Worst. Class. EVER. Don't go to lecture, stay home and sleep instead, since you'll be doing that anyway if you go to lecture, except with annoying classmates asking stupid questions. Even the tech guy falls asleep "JORDAN, NEXT SLIDE PLZ." My TA was awful, hope that you get a good TA. I liked my group, but it was a pain to write a group essay.
This class isnt that interesting, but its not the worst class ever. Your success depends on 3 things: your TA (if your ta sucks, you will be in a hole), your group (same situation as ta), and your ability to read ALL directions and supporting information on "overview assignments". Overall, I thought the class was not too difficult.
I thought this class was super easy. Read the book, show up, take notes, do the assignments and you're good. The only hard part was the group work. The tests aren't bad at all if you study the syllabus. Dr. St. Clair does a good job of emphasizing the important stuff so just write down what he says if he starts repeating himself.
He tries to be as clear as possible and is very good about answering questions. Lecture was boring and I didn't learn anything new.
My little Brother is taking Biology in High School. I had him quiz me on things for our tests. He explained things to me much better than Larry did. Can I just say that I feel bad for Jordan the slide changer! Poor kid got so bored that he took frequent "breaks." Take the class around 9 or 10 so you can get in your morning nap.
Tests are difficult, however classwork helps grade become higher.
This was the easiest class I took last semester. I went to lecture a grand total of 3 times and barely did any of the readings but pulled off a B+ because sooo much is graded on the work done in lab. The way it is set up is ridiculous in that regard, but hey, I'm happy with the grade!
He's not that bad a teacher, but he's not the best. I feel bad saying anything rude about him because he's such a nice guy, but the lectures and huge class setting weren't very educational. Get Jeff Moore as your TA at all costs -- he posts practice quizzes online every few weeks and has hilarious and helpful Powerpoints in review sessions.
He is a really nice guy, but I didn't learn anything from lectures. Everything I learned was from other people and from the book. My goal everyday was to stay awake in lecture, and I got 8-9 hours of sleep every night to try to make it work. Still didn't make it most days. Really boring, STRONGLY not recommended.
This class was a nightmare. Avoid it like the plague!! Now biology is not my thing, but in all of the other classes I've had to take, I at least felt like I was learning something. Not so in St. Clair's class. It was hard to even stay awake in his lectures.
i'm just glad to have this class over with. i learned more in labs from my ta in an hour than i ever did in lecture. the tests were hard and confusing.
no so great
Has strange views of evolution and global warming. Is pretty short with students. He accused one student of stealing widowed Japnese woman's tithing for felling asleep in a dimly lit class in an auditorium of 800 students.
I really enjoyed his class. He really cares about his students and always takes the time to do in depth reviews before exams. The HW isn't hard. He recommends what pages in the book you should review for the exam. If you just read those and pay attention in lecture, it's a fairly easy class.
Professor St. Clair is a nice man, but unfortunately that's not what I'm interested in when I take a class. It is difficult to receive a good grade in his class. I would definitely recommend taking Biology 100 from someone else. The worst grade I've received in my three years at BYU was in this class.
This class is HORRIBLE!! Lectures are bad and super boring. I would never take this class if it wasn't a stupid GE.
Unless you like Biology you'll hate this class. Professor is a good man, mediocre teacher. Don't freak if you don't do great on the tests. There are a lot of potential points. Use the labs and do all assignments and you'll be suprised how good you'll do.
He was quite interesting and kept you involved in the class. His lectures rarely put you to sleep, and that's saying a lot cause I took the class in the late afternoon during usual nap time hours. His TAs did a lot of the teaching too.
There are no words to adequately explain how horrific, banal, and irritating this class was. St. Clair co-taught with Cates... what a disaster. Glad it's over. Wasn't hard - just... sigh. My TA was great though, kudos to him for helping me pass this asinine class.
Professor St. Claire is such a great guy! I love the guy so much, and he's so careful on how he approached evolution. The tests are HARD, but if you get a decent score (even in the 70s) on individual exams, getting an A is very possible. Kind of boring, I would recommend it from someone easier, unless if you like bio, then it's probably fine.
A good one to check off the list of generals when you don't want one terribly difficult. I never read the book, except in prep for tests and my grade is fine, don't pay too close attention to lecture either. Just study hard for the tests. Thorough teacher, cares about the class a lot. The TAs are your lifesavers.
Lecture was boring, I fell asleep a couple of times but small group discussion was helpful and he has great TA's. He's good at explaining things but has a tendency to over do it.
Pretty easy teacher and the TA's are helpful, not a bad class but his voice tends to put me to sleep.
He was an amazing teacher! Because of him I want to be a teacher and help others want to be better! I hope one day I can be as influential to others as he has been for me! Thanks for all of your hard work!
Good guy. Slighty boring. Lecture was really not nessecary to go to. The TA's are what really makes it. So if you get a good TA you are in luck but if not...good luck!
Not a very good lecturer, but the TA's make up for it. I learned more in the 2 hour review sessions before the tests than in class. Enough points in the labs that it shouldn't be tough to get an A. Tests are not that hard.
I don't know why everyone is so hard on the guy. He is a little boring early in the morning, but he's just your basic crusty old man. Pretty funny guy. He's great about the amount of depth he goes into and is realistic about the students' interest since it's just a GE.
Must attend class since the tests are mainly based off the stuff he goes over in class. I enjoyed this class, but that could be because of the interest I have in biology. Otherwise I'd probably sleep like the girl next to me in class everyday.
Psh, it's useless to go to lecture. I am an english major who hates science and I still managed to get an A. You just have to do all your work for discussion sections and then hit 3 or 4 review sessions before the test and review the vocab from the textbook and you're golden.
This class is very easy if you use the study guides and just look over the syllabus. Lectures are very boring, but they help keep everything fresh in your mind. Also, take advantage of the extra credit opportunities. If you do all those things, an A will become quite easy.
Boring! I fell asleep nearly every lecture. The TA you get really makes a difference...mine was ambiguous and a hard grader. Review sessions will save you before tests. The class was necessarily difficult, but definitely requires a lot of effort. If I could do it over again I would take bio100 from another professor.
Proff. St. Clair seems to love teaching and care about his students, but that does not, in any way, make him a good teacher. He really seems to think that his class is more important than anything else in life. I would NOT take him if i had a choice again. Although, there are a lot of ways to make up missed points on tests.
I never went to class once, just my lab and the TA review sessions. I also read a bit of the book. It was super easy, kinda boring, but i'm not a science person.
He gives ample opportunities outside of class for extra help if you don't understand. There are many review sessions to prepare for tests, assignments, and everything else.
nice helpful teacher if you need anything he is there for you, attend dont sleep in class you will miss alot. one paper to write 3 or 2 exams then final, 3 homework overviews. its all basic biology so very useful.
He is a terrible lecturer, and I stopped going to lecture because it was boring and useless. I still got an A in the class by doing all the assignments. Tests aren't too hard, but you do need to study. I only got through those by going to a different TA's reviews and reading the textbook. Take a different professor.
Got students into the material, and encouraged participation.
BOO! I hated this class. Horrible lectures, I eventually stopped going. Still got an A by going to labs and doing the assignments. Lecture is a waste of time. Don't worry about going- you can still be a good student.
Great teacher. Provides plenty of opportunities for extra credit and is always willing to help students. It's obvious that he cares about people, the subject, and the gospel. I highly recommend him.
Lectures were boring, and attendance isn't recorded, so it's really up to you. Assignments are incredibly easy, as are the tests, so it isn't hard to get an A as long as you try. Prof St. Clair is a nice guy, but I didn't love his teaching. I'd still recommend itthough, because it's the easiest class I've taken so far, and I hate science.
I took his class several years ago, but I remember clearly that I didn't enjoy the lectures - Prof. St. Clair was not very congenial with the students and often answered questions in a condescending or combative manner. The lectures are held in BYU's 800-seat auditorium, so 95% of students never interact with him directly.
Best teacher I ever had. He was helpful and funny. He was willing to work with me and I enjoyed his classes very much.
I really liked Dr. St. Clair. Biology was easy for me, but he explains concepts thoroughly and is always willing to answer questions. He met with me several times because I was confused about some things, and he took the time to individually explain concepts to me. He genuinely wants his students to do well.
He is a fantastic teacher. He explains Biology so well through and overall is such a great guy. He will help you out if you go talk to him one on one. One of the best teachers I have ever had. I would recommend him to everyone and his homework is easy and tests are not to bad
Bro. St Clair always brings the gospel into his lectures. He truly believes in teaching us concepts along with strengthening our testimonies. He is a great teacher. The assignments and tests aren't that hard if you study and go to the review sessions he provides.
I liked St. Clair. He is very thoughtful and you can tell he has a passion for science and God together. I enjoyed the class and it was an easy A. Class attendance doesn't matter other than to get notes.
Easily one of my favorite classes taken at BYU, and not because of the subject! St Clair is passionate about science and incorporates the gospel into every lecture. Assignment details are always clear. It's an easy A, but I wouldn't say it's a "do nothing" class. You absolutely need to do the homework, and you will be just fine. Minimal studying.
If you can find someone to give you the lecture notes you won't need to go to class except on the required days. There is a decent amount of homework but it is simple and straightforward. 6 tests with a non cumulative final. The tests are rhetorical so memorizing facts doesn't help much. Know the material for the tests and you'll do fine.
This class was straight up boring, but it was an easy credit. Didn't enjoy it, but it's a great way to get rid of a gen. St. Clair is super sweet, but his lectures are dry. Go to TA test reviews.
Dr. St. Clair is the sweetest! He was always concerned when i was struggling, and responded with caring. I got my lowest score on an exam ever, and still got a good grade in the class because the TA was not a tough grader and a big part of the grade was other assignments. I don't know if that was true for other students and their TA's?
Really nice guy but class is structured terribly. There is no homework except written ones that aren't applicable to the tests. Which seems like a good thing but I actually wanted some multiple choice quizzes to prep for the tests. I literally learned everything from YouTube. Lectures are very hard to follow and theres no textbook. Fairly easy A.
Professor St. Clair's lectures were a little long (I took the class in Spring term), but I think the class would be a lot more interesting if only absorbed in hour increments. His assignments are usually pretty clear and are graded very easily. As a person, Professor St. Clair is wonderful, and his love for the subject really shows.
Brother St. Clair changed my life. As someone who is really not into science or biology, I was sure this class would be horrible. However, it was such an amazing experience. His deep understanding and appreciation for life strengthened my testimony and helped me to gain a more wholesome outlook on my own life. Sad to see that he is retiring :(
I had dropped this course from Bradshaw because of the frustrations of not having clearly defined expectations or even what material would be tested. This was a breath of fresh air in comparison. I enjoyed the class so much I became a TA for professor St. Clair for 2 years. We need more like him.
It's the easiest class I've ever taken, he was awesome!
