Very monotone in his lectures.
Without a doubt, the most difficult prof I've had in 80+ college hours - my only 'C' ever! Very monotone & tests more from the text than notes!! Take him only if you've no other choice! I'd highly recommend an ITV or internet course instead - wish I had!
Nobody in the class is doing well. It seems to me that if an entire class is praying for Cs, it's the prof. that's faulty. Oh, and don't be in the hospital on a test day. Not being a school function, it won't be excused.
He presents material nicely. I learned a lot. However, he is a "by the book" professor which not all students might like.
He rambles on about stuff and it doesn't always make sense, so I have to read the book when it comes to his test, he's very nice, but I wish he would just stick to the coursework and not get off subject
This professor is horrible! Tests make the SAT, ACT look easy! Multiple problems w/all of the above, none of the above and combinations for answers. My first C! Over half of the class dropped out for online and lecture classes(On-Campus) and two other friends failed that stayed in.
He has no knowledge of history at all. He puts events that have nothing to do with each other and makes it appear that they happen at the same time. Like the Battle of Troy and Socrates fought during the golden age of Rome and other miscelaneous stuff that is weird. It's like he takes a timeline, cuts it up, and then replices it back together.
His knowledge of history was very limited. He mixes up his facts and tends to read out of books he finds interesting. While they relate to history and are often of by famous ancient historians, I would rather not have to try to piece together my notes together with duct-tape from 3rd century texts. His tests are hard and his lecture hard to follow.
Probably the worst teacher I've ever had! He pauses so much in his lecture and goes off on so many tangents that you don't understand what he's talking about. His tests are pretty detailed and hard also
bad bad bad!!
He is probably a smart man but his lectures are confusing and choppy. He grades essay extremely hard and leaves no helpful comments for improvement. I was excited about this class, but he pretty much murdered any enjoyment. Avoid this class!
Horrid Prof! Bad essay topics with worse grading system for them. Non-responsive to email for online classes. Felt I had to fight for each grade posted. Not worth taking online classes from him, look elsewhere!
very piecey and boring lectures, reads from unrelated text, makes unhelpful and down right mean comments on essays, does not lecture on very much of the test material, almost as if his lectures are just background information and you are supposed to teach yourself history in relation to speech and philosophy from only the history based text

Worst teacher ever, I took him online. No reviews, almost had to memorize the book. Only gave two online quizess which helped w/the grade since you can use your book. Will never take him again.
This was the worst class I have ever had. (And that's saying a lot!) I had this as a CDI class. All that he ever did was tell us to read 6 chapters and then we tested over them. There was no review, and really no direction. I am a History major, and I love history. This is the first time I have not made an A in a class.
I have had a lot of teachers. This one is awful. 4 Tests, read the chapters, and that is it. No review, no insight, no help, no anything.
His online class was fairly easy. Read the book and the online notes and take your own notes. How much easier can that get. It seems some people get used to those easy classes where they virtually get the test before hand to study. This class should not be taken if you aren't ready to dedicate the time it will take to pass.
I took this class as ITV. His test were difficult. His lecture notes did help, but he seemed to draw his questions from very minor events. He does give opportunty for extra points, which is the only reason I passed. But he offered no help for review on the tests. I do not recommend taking his class.
Online class. Not helpful for review. Grades dependent on tests with 2 opportunities for extra credit. If you read book and notes, you should fair well. Seemed to be considered with events and people over dates.
Only tells you to rear 6 chapters at a time and then tests you on it with no clarity as to what exactly the test will be over!! very poor with no help. I had to drop this class because I would have failed other wise. I don't think he takes his classes seriously and does not care if you learn anything or not!
The worst class I every took....teacher always negative.
This class was horrible! He wouldnt help with any questions i had. He would get mad when i would have questions and didnt really try to help me to understand. This was the worst class ive ever taken. I studied day and night and still would fail his tests. He would never tell me what to study for he would only say read 6 chapters and then test.
HORRIBLE TEACHER!! Run for your life, this is the worst online HIST 1301 you could ever take! I have never made a C in a class but this class changed all that. No clarity on test, no review, no help!
I highly DO NOT recommend this teacher. He is not friendly, no help at all, and his class is an absolute waste of time. He does no teaching and the test questions come out of left field and are about random events that were barely covered at all. He gets pleasure out of his students failures.
DONT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HIM!
Words cannot explain the frustration and aggravation I had as his student. I took the "team" taught online class with a LIT prof who was just as worthless as this guy. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS unless you absolutely have NO OTHER OPTION! I LOVE history and he almost ruined it for me. I have taken many online classes and know they can be taught better.
Tests are very difficult. There are 4 of them and none are dropped. Lecture notes concentrate on specific topics (IE Russian Revolution, Lenin) and you are responsible for learning the rest from the assigned readings and online resources. Study guides are provided but they are only a fraction of what is on the test.
Mr. Story made me like History for the first time in my life.
no help even lecture notes were full of sarcasym and do not help at all on exams
It was clear when started this class it would be just like everyone has said. I was lucky enough to drop it in time and avoid this horrible teacher. Rude in e-mails, ridiculous testing and grading procedures, and an overall bad feeling from this guy should keep everyone far away from him. STAY AWAY :)
I took this DL course. I watched every video and read every assignment and studied everything...but, didn't help on the test. I emailed the teacher and he said to know what the prof said on the videos. I did. Didn't help on the test. What a waste of my time. DO NOT TAKE this class and work your butt off to get a C. I can't believe it!
This teacher is not helpful at all. The book he used is out of print, you have to search for the book the TCC Bookstore does not carry it, and the test do not reflect his posted notes and his lecture notes. He doesn't assist his students when having difficulties his response is drop the class. RUDE!!!! No Study Notes!!!!!
Too many chapters for one test. I had trouble remembering 165 pages of people, places, and dates for the first test!
Very sarcastic comments on thought question papers. He's definitely not going to like me after today since I sent him an e-mail calling him out on all the questions/comments he wrote. I gave him every single answer straight from my paper. What the hell was he reading?
I liked Prof. Story. Hes funny and you can tell he really knows history and enjoys it. You do need to go to class because majority of the test is from notes but there are questions that come only from the book and it does help with studying. I plan on taking his 1302 class next semester.
He tends to talk to much about things that are not important. His test are hard you have to study alot
This professor is tough. Thought questions are difficult and the last one of the semester was not clear. I had to study constantly due to the amount of information packed into one test. The online lecture notes cover a fraction of the reading material.
did not like this teacher. didn't explain things, and didn't focus on one topic at a time. didn't give extra credit. also was very boring
His lectures are not clear...His test do not enclude any book reading.
I seem to be the only one who actually liked his class. He is tough which I enjoyed. Very challenging online course. I've taken too many blow off online classes and Mr Story's class is the exception. I did well in his class though, reading the book and his notes. Took him last semester before transferring and I wish I could have taken the second se
No make up testing, during the height of the great Swine Flu scare I had to take a test with a 102 fever. Unfortunately that brought my strong B down to a C. I still enjoyed his class but making a C in history stings. Still I enjoyed the challenge of his class. He picked the most minute details to test over making sure we read and knew the material
This has got to be the worst teacher out there! I seriously think something is wrong with him!! He gives you outlines for lectures, but he skips around and loses thought process, and his test questions are way out in left field! Hardly any of it is even covered in class!! Not to mention the book that is barely used!! DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!
I graduated HS in 1988. This is my first semester in college. I enjoyed every minute of this class. Though history is not my strong point, you get out what you put in. You MUST attend class, take notes, and study both lecture & book. I earned an A for my final grade. Prof. Story is a very fair, intelligent, and amazing instructor. Fun class!
For those who want an easy A without much effort, do not bother, please. However, if you actually want to learn something interesting, helpful and useful, this class is for you. You do have to take notes, come to the lectures, but as long as you do that, you will learn a lot and have a blast.
I took this class online. This guy has got to the worst teacher I've ever had. The tests include information not discussed in the lesson plan. He isn't clear on what he wants in his papers. He did grade tests and papers quickly.
Terrible teacher do not take!!! No assistance he believes we are adults and we shouldn't need any assistance and hates to be asked question his answer for everything is "Drop the class."
Terrible teacher do not take!!! No assistance he believes we are adults and we shouldn't need any assistance and hates to be asked question his answer for everything is "Drop the class."
I have never recieved a D in my entire life. This teacher gives you 6 chapters to read and tests. 90% of grade is on tests and 10%on quizzes. He also sneaks some extra credit opportunities into lecture notes, but i was so busy reading 6 chapters in 2 weeks that I was not able to e-mail them in time. Look at other options not worth a bad grade.
I love history but not this instructor. The online lecture notes are almost humorous to read; he has a very high opinion of himself. He probably reads this website and the lower the ratings the happier he is.
I didn't heed the warnings about NOT TAKING THIS TEACHER but DO NOT TAKE...SERIOUSLY...he is a waste of your time. He is rude and unkind and not willing to help. Someone tell me HOW IS HE STILL TEACHING?
Wow, almost ruined my grade point average. Nice guy, but 10% is from the book. All the rest is from lecture. I know you are thinking, these guys didn't try hard enough. Not true, I feel sorry for anyone who takes this professors classes.
Such an awful teacher, a let down to the other faculty at TCC. I took a DL class, he was 100% absent, never updated a thing. I would email and ask questions and ask for help and he would just say "read the book more" He doesnt care if you pass, in fact it seems like he hates teaching, hates his students! DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER if you dont have to
Took the CDI class and was lost from the start.Very disorganized and appears to be disinterested in helping students.I have a 3.56 GPA and dropped out of fear.Very argumentative and sarcastic in his replies to requests for clarification or help.Tests covered material not found in text or lecture notes.
Very Confusing. Nearly impossible to take notes since he goes on rabbit trails and never finishes a topic. Story put in more of his opinion than what was in the text, which was hardly ever used. He is not helpful and impossible to get a hold of.
Story was a great guy. idk why so many people complain about him. Attend every class, print off outlines, take good notes on outlines, and your golden. I didnt even purchase the book bc everything is note-based. This is college people, get used to studying; an A wont be handed to you. I plan on taking again bc of how well he explained his topics.
I took this as a distance learning course my gpa was a 3.56. I love history.I was not doing well on the tests, when i asked him what i could do to bring up my grade, his response was "well, if you were in my class" or "maybe you could meet w/other students".we had no access to classmates.not helpful.
I am a mature student with a 3.9 gpa. (I also have a son at Texas Tech)I took his online course. His posted lectures were great. I didn't mind reading the textbook, and the online quizzes were simple. However, his on-campus tests were insane. The questions were confusing and ambiguous. I DO NOT reccomend taking the online course.
Do not take online! very discouraging...
Very discouraging, non of his notes comes in test, clarity is so poor. Please don't take online or if you can dont take him. H eactually need to sit back and assess himself and everything students are writing here. A good teacher looks out for the interest of his or her students. He made history my enemy. :(
I took his class on Distance Learning. No quizes and then you take a mid term on 8 chapters or so. Then you do your final on another several chapters. He has notes but I felt the notes nor the text book did much good for the type of questions he presented. I had a 4.0 average until I took this class, made a C. His method does not work for me.
I thought he was amazing. I looked forward to each class period with him, because he keeps it so interesting with his knowledge of history and story-telling. You have to study and take notes, but that's to be expected- it's college.
Honestly do not take this class online. Even following the outlines and lecture notes provided it's still difficult to make a good grade on the Unit tests. May be different in a lecture class, but online is a definite NO.
This class was extremely difficult but it's hard to pinpoint exactly why. I did well on all of my quizzes and projects. My downfall with this class was the fact that I had a family emergency out of state that led to me receiving two zeroes on tests and no way to make those tests up. When I retake this class, it won't be with this professor.
So I took this during the summer, online. It's really not that bad at all. Emailed Story a couple times to be clear on what tests were over and he was helpful. Only 3 quizzes and 3 tests. You MUST read. If you can read clearly and retain information than you'll do just fine. Straight to the point type class.
This was the worst class I've ever taken! The exams are ridiculous and don't go over the materials he gives you. I took this class online and he didn't even set up a discussion board so we couldn't talk to other students. When I talked to him he said he couldn't help me because I obviously don't know the material. I HAD a 3.8gpa before this class.
Online quiz easy. Test very hard. His lectures are expected to be memorized for the test.
Easy A if you take notes
Do not take this class. He is unclear about topics. He can be very scrambled and it is hard to understand the concepts he's trying to teach. It's like he doesn't stay on course.
Assignment completely irrelevant to History. There are absolutely no reviews for his tests. You better memorize the chapters and the lectures. He obviously designs the tests for you to fail unless you memorize every single thing in the reading. Terrible teacher, do not take his class!!!!
Very nice man but boring and his lectures are very scattered. Tests are hard. Little text book use and must memorize notes in order to do good. Speaks very low at times so hard to record lectures. Do no recommend taking him.
Take good notes and read the chapters. His lectures are long and don't follow the book. Sit at the front as he has a soft voice.
Very tough course
Do not take this class online. History is my favorite subject, before this class I had a 3.5, worst teacher I've had, no discussion boards, no reviews, the exams cover miscellaneous stuff that does not even cover the pertinent information you read. He seems to not care whether his students fail or not, at least those online, very disappointing.
The worse ever! Super hard, provides no help, no guides, no lecture, nothing. He basically expects you to memorize the book and other books that he never mentions. Stay far away from this professor.
This is the only class is my college yrs that I have had to drop. This professor is very tough and the class is hard for someone who is not very good at History like me. There is a lot of reading and the questions on the test are very confusing compared to what you read. The professor does help if you have questions.
Hard class that requires reading & understanding of content. Professor was very helpful and class was sent up very well. Tests are difficult if you do what you are assigned to do, impossible if you dont. History Major, class was a challenge but worth if if you really are interested in history.
Disappointed in this class. On line course. Difficult for me to retain so much material. Earned a D on my first exam but passed all other activities and quizzes. Do not recommend.
Terrible teacher! I wish I would've read these comments before attending his class. His lectures from the time you sit down to the time you leave. Unfortunately, his tests have nothing to do with the 5 pages of notes you took during the class. Unless he's your absolute last resort do not take this class.
YOU HAVE TO READ. i also took it online. he gives you exams that are facts from the chapter. history means reading and needless to say, this class is entirely dependent on that. your grade will reflect your effort. NO EASY A here.
Do not take this class unless you absolutely have to. The tests are full of meaningless facts that do not represent your understanding of the reading. ONLINE: he never responded to my last e-mail at all, and was extremely slow to respond all semester. When he did respond he was condescending and rude. This is my first B in 4 years! Avoid this class
Not a good teacher at all. Avoid class!
Do not take this class online. no discussion boards, no reviews, almost 50 pages of professor notes on top of 4 chapters to read a week. exams cover miscellaneous stuff that does not even cover the pertinent information you read. This is a teacher that is just throwing too much useless information and makes it hard to understand
Not a helpful instructor overloads you with teacher notes and then chapters and unless you memorize the book chances of passing are not going to happen. 50 min tests for 50 questions and most is not even important information most would retain. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS unless your only option
no study guide. only outline is given. expected to read all chapters and listen to his lectures (he doesn't use boardpowerpoint) just stands and talks in front. no review for test. don't bring book to class- he doesn't lecture from book. sit in front has soft voice. hardly can record. use laptop to type notes. study study study read read read.
Horrible class. I will likely repeat with a good instructor. I am shocked we allow this in school systems nowadays. No reviews for tests. Just over some information in the 5 chapters you read. Too much information to memorize seriously. you have 50 min to do 50 questions. So you better know your stuff.
He is the most horrible teacher in the world. He is soft-spoken and very rude. His test and lectures are totally different. He is soft-spoken and very hard to understand. Instead of teaching, he states his opinion the whole time.
He is a very nice guy but he is bad at getting his lectures across. He does not use study guides or powerpoints. He stands in front of the class for an hour and a 20 minutes and talks, talks, talks. You will not use the book in class but you will need it for studying. 4 (50) question tests for the semester, study hard or you will not pass.
He's very nice but his class is so boring! I dozed off a couple of times and the test are really hard. All you do is listen to him ramble on, and if you don't read you'll fail. I ended up dropping his class. So not worth it!
No visual aids such as power points, slides shows, prezis, or anything. You have to read the book otherwise you will not pass. So boring. The tests are 50 questions and are very hard. Good Luck!
Worst teacher ever. I'm going to be getting my degree in history and this guy just messed me over big time. You better like art o Ya be prepared to learn from a book that he doesn't issue you. He gets mad when you ask a question during his lecture. No PowerPoint everything from his notes. If I can save one person I have done my job here.
Horrible
Difficult class. Test are really hard even if you study. Gives a lot of unnecessary notes. He is a bit sassy when it comes to asking questions... overall its a challenging class. Good luck!
Very boring lectures. Tests seem to be much different than what he lectures on. Takes participation grade for going to class but otherwise you're better off just reading the book. The silver lining is half of final are exact questions from previous tests which he gives back to you. Can say I did learn some history but my grade did not reflect it.
Pay attention to the lecture and take good notes off the lecture and the unit outline during the lecture and you will do good. I honestly didn't read at all and passed with a high B studying my lecture notes alone. Definitely would take again.
Unecessarily difficult course! Long and confusing oral lectures that DO NOT reflect what's on the tests. Extensive reading you have to memorize just about everything, he gives no reviews or study guides. Most of the class received a C or D and more than half ended up dropping! He tells you he will drop lowest test grade but never did so he lies too
He never sends out announcements. His tests pull from his lecture notes... those notes look like he wrote them as fast as he could. They're full of typos and a lot of it just doesn't seem relevant. If your internet cuts out mid exam, the exam will submit automatically and you'll get a too bad so sad from him.
None of his tests come with any reviews. None of his tests take any material from either the book or his notes. Nothing is in any kind of order. His deadline dates he gives you are due at 6 AM the morning of the day he gives you, so in reality, unless you are up before Six in the morning, they are due the night before.
He's a nice guy but his lectures are hard to focus in because he literally just stands there and talks. His tests are pretty random, he gives you an outline for each unit but they're pretty vague. The online quizzes don't do much to your grade. He says to read the chapters but there are only like 3 questions about anything in the book on the tests.
Do not need book! Tests are difficult to study for because there will be questions with "according to your professor's opinion..." Test will be from lectures and those are hard to follow because he jumps around (chronologically) and follows rabbit trails. ONLY GOOD THING about him is that you will get your grades quickly. DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!!
Teacher will never communicate with you, until the day after you missed an assignment. Only to say that you missed the assignment not to offer you any chances. Online tests are usually due at random times like 0900 am instead of the usual 11:59pm like normal online classes. The test questions are poorly worded. You will fail this class.
Dr. Story is a kind teacher who is interested in the success of his students. Listen and take notes in class and make an appointment if you need extra help.
The entire course is based on exam grades. Exams that are only open for 1 day. I'm not sure if I'm alone in this, but don't most people take online classes for ease and accessibility? I prefer online because my busy lifestyle makes it difficult to be held down and confined to physically attending class. Shouldn't have to call into work for an exam.
I don't understand why everyone on here complains about him. He gives you an outline to follow while he lectures. Take good notes & study your notes. If you do then you'll pass! His tests are easy. He's kind of a nerd. Beware of the "In your professor's opinion" questions. Don't be late though because he starts exactly on time.
DO. NOT. TAKE. Why didn't I read Rate my Professor BEFORE I took this course? I'm a great student, learned US Hist 1 very well, but nonetheless barely made a C. Why? Well, missed two quizzes because the deadline was at 6:30 am in the MORNING! Also, many test questions aren't in the assigned material at all- so you must guess the answers.
He is a little boring but it's history soo...... 4 tests and a final (and he drops the lowest test grade) and everything on the test is mentioned in his lecture. people that fail this class are also the ones who never show up for class.
I took this class online. The tests are too hard. You are given a copy of the lecture notes, but maybe 20 out of 50 questions on the test are from the study guide. you must read the book. he will give you an outline to use. I would definitely recommend filling out the outline to study from. I will probably get a high C or low B. I get A's.
Hardest online class I have ever had to take. Assigns about 200 pages of reading and then comes the dreadful test! 50 questions in 50 minutes. I ended up dropping the class.
He was a decent person when I emailed about the textbook, but he was apparently very rude to the other students. His outlines barely pertain to his tests. I would study for a couple of days and still bomb the tests. You HAVE to read the textbook, and remember all the small details. This class was a summer course, and was extremely difficult.
Don't take him online. Only gives tests. 5 tests, he drops the lowest but I never made higher than a 75. Tests cover vague information that you wouldn't think is important, doesn't cover the important stuff. Lectures covered 10% of the material on the test, everything else is up to you to read. Shouldn't be a teacher. Again, don't take online.
I'm accustomed to online learning and I study accordingly. Without assignments between tests, it's difficult to know what he finds most important, even with the outline. Also, each of the tests is based on 4 chapters of reading and it's just too much information to study effectively, especially considering how obscure some questions are.
Dont like learning out of a textbook? Dont take this class. Gives long rambling lectures and never slows down for anyone. He only gives tests so youll never know how youre doing in the class until taking the tests. All info for the tests comes from the textbook. Not very friendly.
Pay more attention to the notes more so than the reading and you will do okay. Lots of memorization, prepare for each test as if you were a history major to try to make it out with a B, goodluck.
This is the hardest class that I have taken, Im sure for professors it is its really hard with Covid. This professor has only assigned the book to readcture notes which I find to not even correspond to the chapters theyre written after. All the tests are proctored, and are extremely hard and mostly true or false. I had to drop out mid semeste
Nothing he goes over for the test is not on the test.
If you actually want to learn do not take this class. If you might miss a class or two do not take this class because nothing is online. I maintained a mid 70 but ended with an F because online it said the final was on Wednesday when it was actually on Monday so I missed it along with several other students. Love history, Hated this class.
Awful class! The entire class is laid out where you read roughly 150 pages from the book over 3 weeks. Then you take a unit exam. Repeat. That's it! No activities no papers. You're given 1 chance to take the test. It is just impossible to remember that much info. Outline he provides is vague doesnt include everything youll need to know for the test
Easy class, go to lectures and take LOTS of notes. Make flashcards, study for ~2 hours, and you get a A+. Only got an A cause I forgot to do the extra credit. He has an extra credit quiz for every exam, really bumps up your grade. A little boring, but super informational. Class is pretty manageable as a dual enrollment student
He just drones on for 7 classes then gives you an exam. No homework, no google slides, nothing. The test's written based on his opinion and stuff he expects you to know that he didn't talk about. Also pulls random irrelevant sentences out of the book as test questions.
If you want to learn, DO NOT TAKE THIS GUY. His tests are very opinion based and doesn't give clear study guides, if you miss a test then you may as well not show up to any of the other classes since one 0 will tank your grade heavily since he doesn't give out any homework. He speaks his mind and doesn't give any presentations of any sort. NO HELP.
He is very passionate about history and a kind person, but I don't recommend this class. Your grade will be focused on the tests, & they have random questions that were never discussed in class or in the book. After the first test, he said the class did good averaging a 68/100!? He often mentioned everyone failed the 3rd test.
