This guy was unfair in tests, he was very hard to understand and ddnt teach well, his homework was excessive, and more than half our class failed out.

one of the worst teachers I've ever had. arrogant, unapproachable, just a bad, bad teacher
Dude blows. I hated him. HATED HIM. NEVER EVER TAKE HIS CLASS
No Comments
took him for math 124, 125, and 126. liked him a lot, if you pay attention and do the suggested homework should be fine. 5 quizzes, 3 tests and a final, and do well on the final replace low test. stuff on quizzes is on test, stuff on tests is on final.
This man is completely unapproachable and disrespectful. He likes to inform people that ask questions how stupid they are for not understanding problems on tests. He seems like a nice guy, but one on one he's a complete ass.
Don't even consider this guy. you will not finish your quiz/test in time. take math at nights if there are no other options
Larry is the best professor that I have ever had. He is very hard, but he gives you the tools to be able to do well. He is very approachable and fun. I would recommend him if you are prepared to work hard.
He is the worst teacher I've ever had. Whenever I ask a question he either makes me feel stupid or totally goes off subject. I am trying as hard as I can and I have a D. Do not take this teacher!
Awesome dude! Step by step explainations & lots of helpful examples. Bonus: exam questions are straight off his quizzes THAT means you know JUST what will be on the exam! Talk about GPA booster! Sincere man, easy going, approachable. Everyone who rated him low probably never even went to class!
A great teacher, but quite difficult. Just reading the syllabus ought to give you a feel for his grading style. He is very motivated, hilarious, enthusiastic, and an overall excellent teacher! Just watch out for the time pressure on exams... killer!
You are in major trouble if you don't do well on tests involving time pressure. He uses his own methods which often differ from those in the text. This can be a source of confusion. The good thing is that he goes out of his way to lay out the type of problems you can expect on the exam
He is great because he teaches the concepts and is very visual. To him, it is more important to know the concepts than to memorize formulas. His tests are fair and he prepares you for them more than most profs would. If you are a visual learner, he is the best math teacher you could have.
Even if you do go to his class everyday it won't help you. The guy doesn't make lecture notes ahead of time and often confuses himself during lecture. He does his own thing, which makes the book confusing. Your only chance of passing is if you're a visual learner.

Run as far away as you can! If you want to do well and have fun in a Math class take Tony Akhlaghi.
Unorthedox, but if you do the work you should be fine, wacth out, he wears tye dye on test days.
Not a great instructor. His tests are easy because he just recycles questions from quizzes, but the guy's short-tempered, condescending, and has even called students "stupid". Take Alkhlaghi.

all I can say is plan on teaching yourself, he took half the class time to answer one students question and notes do not help on exams

he is great person but Horrible teacher. take anyone but this guy and he needs to get life
Worst math teacher I have ever had. Comes in late EVERY DAY and is very disorganized. He teaches you weird methods that don't correspond with the book. Rants about the most useless things and can't answer some of the questions you ask. Don't get near this man unless you want to go insane.
He is a great guy. People just blame him for not understanding the concepts when they themselves don't come to class prepared. It's not his fault students who are lazy fail the class. But if you attend class almost always, and listen in to his lectures, and ask thoughtful questions, you will have no problem passing with an A. His tests and quizzes
he is hard...if you want to take his class and pass, you better know your stuff...there's time limit on quizes and exams...to a math idiot like me his lectures don't make a whole lot of sense...but maybe to ppl who are better at math his lectures are probably understandable...^^
He has 5 quizes and the tests come from the quizes. Also, as he clearly states in class, the final comes DIRECTLY from the tests. So if you don't get behind, there is no reason to not get an A. In fact most people do get A's in this class. you can't cram math 126 unless you're a math genius. so, DON'T FALL BEHIND, and you will get an A.
i know..hes late everytime when start the class.dont take his class.he got a bad temper..ihate him so much
Same as MATH156, in MATH157, he has 5 quizes and the tests come from the quizes, plus final comes all from test. He is also a very easy going guy, loves people to ask questions. I would say more than half of the time in class he is answering our questions, which come from homework. You should read the textbook, and you should do your homework.
He makes no sense. I bought the solutions manual, and another book and it is still hard. He knows his stuff he is just terrible at teaching! He can't explain or teach things.
He is a nice guy and I respect him as a person. But as a teacher, dont know how it gets worse. The entire class time was spent to go over the homework. No class works at all. Just sit in class and listen to him do the homework problem. He doesnt prepare us for quiz and the class is really boring. By the end of the quarter no one was in the class.
dont ever bother to take his class.I took math 120 but I got F then I took the palcement test and been placed to Math 124--His class again. easy quiz and tests but stupid teaching style, u can never learn anything from him. I teach everything by myself but I think I will get an A this time. STUPID TEACHER!
Equation: "Does anybody have any questions on last nights homework?" x 1 hour of class x every class in the quarter. You better be self taught because he wont teach you. However the questions on the quizzes are on the tests which are on the final.
I spend on avg 40 mins on homework weekly, and thus far have aced both of the quizzes. Ridiculously easy, though two hours a day with him is draining considering he spends 90% of the time going over irrelevant hw not on the quiz/tests.
Super nice guy, but not a very good teacher. Explanations are unnecessarily verbose and sometimes confusing. Either his explanations, or examples, are way more complex than they need to be. I had to do a lot of self study just to understand the concepts. Class time was usually not that helpful.
good person, does not explain well, overall his class can be considered piece of cake.
Energetic and demanding, but I pulled a good deal from this class... definately one of the better math instructors I've had
Very poor quality of teaching. It's unfortunate that BCC has this type of instructor.
Very tough teacher. Doesn't explain all the material needed to do the homework. during his tests and quizzes you're under a lot of time pressure, allowing only 10 minutes for quizzes. overall just a poor teacher.
Larry is my favorite math teacher that I have had at BCC. One must definately study and prepare for his difficult tests. He is stubborn when it comes to adjusting points on a test; however, with proper explanation and showing that you know the material he will side with you (if your argument is valid). Overall a great teacher, and human.
very good teacher! i acutally loved going to his class...his tests are really easy..but he's kinda clumsy and makes a lot of mistakes when lecturing so if you really pay attention then you will kno what im talking about
Wow. This guy should retire before doing more harm to the students. The worst teacher ever. You will end up teaching the material yourself. His tests and quizzes might be easy but his grading style will ruin you.
Don't take this class, worse teacher ever. He is very unorganized tends to make mistakes on the board. Rude to students who asks questions that are simple. Tests not too difficult, but he makes the material unclear. I suggest not going to class and going to the math lab instead, and just come to take the test.
Academic hell. First of all if you don’t know much about calculus you are digging your own grave. He is not going to teach you anything, he already expects you to know it. I got pretty lucky knowing a little bit about Antiderivatives / Indefinite Integrals which earned me a C. I gave you fair warning! Beware!
Say bye-bye to your great GPA with Suzanka. Doesn't know the meaning of teaching. Just imagine as if another student, a B student, is doing the lectures; that's Suzanka, an unprofessional teacher.
Stay away from Mr. Suzanka. He is a nice guy, I won't deny it, but as teacher he lacks the mathematical and teaching skills that a student expect from a teacher at BCC.
The CRAZIEST teacher on earth. He is happy and having fun when he see almost every student fails the test; plus he never want to make his test doable. Everyting on the test is always NOT in the books and the hardest. It takes a bacher degree to pass his test. TAKING HIS CLASS IS TORTURING YOURSELFT. you study hard as hell just to pass the test
He is a whorththile teacher. he intentionally makes tests and quizes harder because he wants us to succeed when we face difficulties in our lives in the future. He makes mistakes on a white board. so you need to zero in on what he writes on it. it is not easy to get an A. so you need to study.
Larry is a wonderful professor. He is very smart, and he enjoys teaching. Based on my observation he really cares about students understand math.. I was motivated by his spirit, and did well in his class. He let students know that respect is important, that is why some student did not like him.In his class I got tremendous amount of knowledge. Than
Plain and Simple, stay away, far away. Horrible teacher.
took him for math 105 and 120. He's a really chill dude, but his tests are really hard. It's definitely a challenge taking his class. It's not a good class if you want a high GPA, but you will be less intimidated by math. Good teacher if you're gonna be working in the science field.

He knows math, but he's not good at teaching it. Very arogant. This type of professor will make you hate the subject. Don't waste your time in his Calculus class.
Susanka constantly makes mistakes during lectures. It literally seems like some of the students can teach with more clarity. Be prepared to study a good two hours a night or his tests will be very difficult.
If you are willing to make the effort, you will leave Susanka's class with a solid understanding of concepts--well-prepared for the next level. He knows and loves his topic. Energetic lectures.
Ask plenty of questions, he will go through everything with you untill you completely get it IN CLASS. By far - my favorite math teacher of all time. Grades hard to get, but your knowledge and understanding after taking this class will be out the roof if you engage in class.
Susanka is incredibly arrogant. He will make you feel like you know absolutely nothing about math and you never will. He only grades you on tests so if you are a horrible tester, this class is not for you. He is almost always late for class and always out of breath. He makes mistakes on the board and acts offended if a student catches them.
Avoid this teacher at all costs! suSANKa has "sank" many peoples' boats! Don't let him sink yours!
Avoid this teacher at all costs! 10-15 minutes for a 5-problem test! Almost no one finishes and over half the class fails! This teacher is always really anxious and teaches extreme fast-paced because of it...He's always late to class.
I don't like to say bad things about teachers but please understand what you are getting into before taking this course he does not have patience for anyone beside himself and is very cocky. He is a notoriously horrible teacher.
Can't teach, cant understand, everything is too hard, and he veers off on his own tangent when teaching. Avoid at all costs. skip a quarter if you have to. this guy is absolutely useless. even Hobbs is better at teaching physics, and he is rated as hard as well. AVOID AVOID AVOID SUSANKA. HE IS BORING
Susanka is the hardest, most difficult calculus teacher on campus. He does things his own way, very different from other Calculus teachers. You only have 10-15 minutes at most to complete a test in his class-no one finishes! He's always anxious and was rude(not allowing enough time for the test)to students who arrived late the day of a snowstorm
He's not the worst teacher ever, but there were a lot of things I didn't like about him. His handwriting is sloppy, and he would constantly make mistakes on the board. He goes into some problems that have to do with physics and not math, as well. I wouldn't take him again, but it wasn't torture.
He was the absolute worst teacher I have ever had. He has tenure and acts like it. He doesn't care, he moves way too fast, he doesn't teach, he'll just write homework assignments up on the board and expect you to be an expert. He made a girl in my class cry twice by essentially telling her she was stupid. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!
I can't believe so many students are not happy with Susanka. Guys:if you want to take his class prepare yourselves to learn calculus. It is true that by the end of the quarter there were less than a half of students left, but I remeber math was my # 1 enemy, but because of Susanka, I got so much knowledge and a B grade. But I was willing to learn.!
I am currently a high school student. I take hard classes, am in double excell maths and I have a 4.0 GPA. Still, this man for one CANNOT write tests... he gives pure crap on tests that he hardly prepares us for. I study for hours and it turns out that I studied the WRONG things, even though he said to study those things!!!!!!!!!!! AVOID HIS CLASS
This guy ROCKS as a Math teacher. He is probably one of the most intelligent people at the college. People that rated him low will just never get it and when they do, it will be too late.
I took him a few years ago and all I remember is this guy was very hard to deal with compared to the 20 other teachers I had. imagine getting a 4 question quiz and before you have enough time to get to the finish half of it, you have to turn it in! My major was math and physics and I was still stressed out after every test with Susanka.
Probably the worst, most inconsiderate teacher ive ever had. Fortunately I am able to go to my HS teachers for help. Twice i had to leave early for a class, and on the 2nd time I apologized and he called me an a**hole and told me i should take advantage of the withdrawal deadline, humiliating me in front of the class even tho i was getting an A!:(
He knows math but at times he can be really spazzy which is kinda funny. If you have a question he answers it pretty well. The quizzes and tests are kinda like the homework and the final is the tests put together. So studying for that class wasn't too bad.
avoid him, he knows math but is a pain to deal with. See if next quarter you can take the class with Updegrove instead OR hop on the metro bus to a different school to take your class with someone else.
Super nice guy if you're respectful. Makes a lot of simple mistakes on the board, but he normally catches them. His quizzes are fair and he tells you what will be on them, but they're all timed a little too short. I'd take his class again. He's clear and a great teacher.
Susanka is a great teacher with clear and helpful lectures. His class is straight forward and reasonable. Listen to the lectures, take notes, do the homework, and study for the tests and quizzes. Homework is not required but recommended. Problems in the homework and those solved in class are similar to the ones on the tests and quizzes.
worth taking!loves math-you can tell.Gets excited about problems so its much less boring.Willing to do several of the same-type questions multiple times. Explains well, doesnt expect you to memorize the textbook!Be respectful-ask ahead to leave early and do not talk in class-basic courtesy.grow up people...loves to joke 1-on-1, sweet guy, underrated
also(cont from below), clear in class, if he makes a mistake, happy to let you catch it! quizes are like HW with new numbers. never quizes/tests on problems not done as a class at least once- just take notes! Tests are even easier than quizes- final is super easy. its the tests with new numbers and some problems taken out. Wants you to succeed!
He really LOVES teaching math & he's always energetic but you can easily shoot the mood down if you're disrespectful. He will not tolerate with students that act like high schoolers. I had him fall quarter of 09' and he cussed out a student for being immature. Just listen, know your material, and DO NOT TALK when he is teaching!
Not a very good teacher but does know what hes talking about
This could be nightmare, DON NOT TAKE ANY CLASS WITH HIM. He makes things very time limited, doesn't explain anything. HIS TEST ARE VERY TRICKY. The fist questions are easy and the last ones require more time so you would run out of time. He dosn't care what you r situation is, he just wants to tell you what to do. WORST WORST WORST EVAAAAA
Ugh avoid this teacher at all costs! Even if you are good at math you will struggle with his class. His lectures aren't very explanatory, and he isn't very helpful. Questions on quizzes and tests are really difficult, and they are timed. One quiz question took him 20 minutes to explain, while the quizzes are only 10 minutes. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS.
This guy is by far the worst teacher constantly making mistakes so by the time you find out what is going on you miss the point. I studied at least 4 hours a night and still got a D and i get A's in math never had a D.
He gets excited about the math questions which is cool but he's quizzes are surprising so study hard on the test and quizzes.
This man is horrible. Just take Linear Algebra at another school. He will make you hate math. I have done very well in math until now.
I don't know how I can stop you from making a mistake, but he is HORIBLE. Every single person took his class hates him. HE IS RACIST. BC has posters of discrimination is illegal but this guy wont understand. He has time limited quizzes. He doesn't clarify what he wants. He makes alot of mistakes. Allways go over your quiz cuz youll find mistakes...
Mr.Susanka isn't hard about homework, homeworks is for practice for your own good!.however,if the teacher won't collect those homeworks you will feel like "i don't need to turn them in so i don't have to do it!"and the way he teaches so"dry"he goes a little too fast(for me?)so if you want to take his classes you should have a very good math basic
In my case, I got B in his class. When I took the math accessment, I was put in the math 151. For me, it is very easy for me to understand the book. Anyway, what I want to say is that he is no bad. The people who recieved a poor grade in his class need to think about themselves!
The Worst teacher on the earth. Let's hope he will be fired soon!
The worst teacher ive ever known.
Constantly made mistakes on the board so you have to erase your notes. puts stuff on tests that you've seen. Lots of students got really bad grades in his class. I'm a 4.0 student who managed to squeeze out with a A-. He won't change an unfair test grade. He uses a website in the beginning of class- work on it hard! Bad teacher don't take him!
Larry Susanka is a very rude professor. Bellevue College should be ashamed of employing him. He does not explain the lesson, jumps around from topic to topic with little organization. He has yelled at students a few times so far this quarter- yelling at students is unacceptable. Don't take his class!
Honestly loves the subject- get to know the guy and hes really quite nice. Dont take this class if you're not good a reasoning or self-motivating. Quizes are only suprising to those who didnt look over the homework. Really not that bad- whats all the fuss?
Larry is an excellent teacher with a lot of enthusiasm. He can go fast, but if you ask questions he answers them well. The tests are fair (some Q's are directly from the homework) and he is generous with partial credit. You will do well in his class if you pay attention and do the homework. Don't talk while he's teaching or he'll call you on it.
Not all are gifted with the talent to teach. Larry Susanka is by far the most inaccessible, incomprehensible instructor at BC. I felt somewhat pity for this man who is brilliant at the subject but a complete failure at delivering to the students. Through him I learned that practice DOES NOT make perfect. Thank goodness I dropped his class early on.
Man this guy is great! The moment I walked in to his class I was delighted to find an enthusiastic professor. He has a great sense of humor, such a character! I love his style of teaching. Made me think about math more literally than just mindless equations. He explained our material pretty well. First test in my opinion was pretty hard.
He is one of the best people I know, BUT one of the worst teachers ever!!! He thinks for a second and then writes a whole bunch of stuff on the board without explaining. I got A in my first two calcs and C+ in Susanka's class, and I worked twice more than my other classes!!
Good professor, but really hard on the test. Very fast pace. Would not recommend if you struggle with math.
BC needs to fire this guy for the fact that no student want to take his class. Each quarter BC let him teach 2 section of math, one section for sure will be cancelled, and the other section only half filled. I know many students have been avoiding his class. Some of them even drive all the way to SCCC to take the same class that Susanka teaches at
I took Calculus 152 and 153 at the same time, but I got an F in Math 152 with Susanka and A+ in Math 153 with other professor!!! You should know what does this mean!!!
He's a nice guy but he's just doesn't know how to teach. His tests and quizes are a complete BS!!! Don't take it
Larry is the best! Seriously, don't let the ratings stop you from taking his classes. His quizzes and tests are EASY and predictable if you do the homework. Also, he's really funny and entertaining, and super helpful.
i was struggling in his class and not only did he help me out with the current textbook, but he looked through an old one for me and pointed out the specific things i needed to study to pass. this guy is awesome i took almost all my math from him. he really helped me out a lot.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! He really likes the subject but does not know how to teach! There were several times when a student asked him to do a specific problem and he turned his back to the class and solved the problem without saying a single thing.Does not explain and can be very rude. He called out a student for trying to go to the br during class
His class is not for most students, a lot of teachers will skip the chapters that most students won't need (eg. Work, fluid pressure etc.) but he won't. If you struggle with math I would avoid his class because he has very strict grading standards. He allows you to make back 10% of pts missed on the first 4 exams and he will drop 2 of the 5 exams.
HORRIBLE teacher! His class is not for first timers. He expects you already know most of the material he is supposed to be teaching you in the first place. Would never recommend this class for anyone who is the least bit uncomfortable with math. I had a straight A streak until I got to this class, had never failed a class before his calculus class.
Larry is the worst. DON?T TAKE THIS CLASS. He overcomplicates everything. Teaches you things other teachers skip. He is a mean person, calling out students for asking questions and even calling students names. He doesn?t want to help you pass. He just makes the class easy enough where it's for those with prior calc skills to pass.FLS. DON'T DO IT.
Worst professor ever. Already learned the subject before hand using my high school teachers methods and got the correct answers and still managed to receive partial credit. Goes off topic too often, doesn't explain subject matter well, and doesn't work well with students.
Just don't.
Why is his rating so bad? Best math teacher I've ever had. Don't act like a high schooler in class. Second time taking pre-calc, first time I struggled to get a C in high school, this time I got a 4.0. Do homework and quizzes are a breeze. Look over quizzes and tests could be done in your sleep. Great at explaining and really genuine guy overall.
Horrible teacher. I hated math before I took this class and I dislike it just as much now. He's really into math and gets too caught up in it, that he doesnt really explains things well. He even stormed out of class one time. Grades things really weird, and get's mad at people for random stuff. DONT TAKE HIS CLASS
A good math teacher. I got a B in pre calc, but that was because I didn't do the homework! Just pay attention and do the homework. And go to class! I enjoyed the class, and his stories are interesting.
I loved math before his class, and he ruined it. I took calc in highschool and the first section at another school and received a B both times, but i simply stopped coming to his class. His lectures do not pertain to the homework or tests whatsoever, he jumps around without finishing his topic and his grading on tests is absurd. Dont take his class
I'm a total math geek btw. Susanka confusingly jumps between topics, at times lecturing on 2 different sections. hard to follow. He forgets vital pieces of info/equations until the end of class. Claims back-of-the-book answers are wrong half of the time. Brutal grader. Throws tantrums. Chooses hardest hw problems for tests/quizzes, so do the hw
Larry is a math dork through and through! He is wonderful about explaining things even if they seem dumb, you just have to pipe up and say something! He expects you to actually do your homework (what a concept in college!) and will push you to really know your stuff. I had a horrible teacher for 151 and Susanka has made me like Calc again.
I thought ALEKS was really helpful, its kind of a lot of work. If you do all of the homework and stay on top of it it should be really easy. He's kind of a weird teacher though, pretty dorky and has weird jokes. Still not a bad class. I didn't buy the textbook, just had the online version. No answer key in the back so couldn't check my homework.
You are screwed. He is such a bad teacher and does not explain a thing! I learned to love youtube lectures during this class. It's the best way. The only things that factor into your grade are homeowkr and tests. Tests are impossible. No curve.
Horrible horrible professor. Hard tests, bad grading, bad lectures, and hard/strenuous homework. He jumps around way to much. Most of the students dropped his class. WARNING even a 4.0 student will not be able to pull an A. DO NOT TAKE.
Really helpful. He's seriously revised his policies. Super easy. Only reason I got a B was because I barely showed up.
Solid instruction, likable prof.
I took the class worried because of the amount of negative comments. But this teacher is great! The class is hard cause lets be honest... it's math. I asked him for help and it made everything much clearer! Great guy, must take his class if you have the chance!
He's a difficult teacher, yes. It really requires reading ahead a chapter before you cover it because he moves very fast in explanations. A lot of his time spent teaching is on proofs and explaining how things work versus examples. HW is grueling but it helps. I didn't understand a thing the 1st week, but studied hard and did all hw and got a B
He is the worst professor that I've ever had. I have been at least 2 grade levels ahead in math since 6th grade and the top of my class, and after I got an A on test 1 and turned in all of my assignments, I got 2.5 points off test 2 and it brought me down to borderline failing. When I reached out for help he blamed me. Avoid this class at all costs
This is the worst professor i've ever taken. His tests are only 4-5 questions which doesn't really show what you know. One little mistakes is a while letter grade. His teaching style is messy and unorganized. His teaching methods are horrible. Everyday in class, you just do 1 or 2 home work problems. Teaches you absolutely nothing. All self taught!
He's an ok teacher. Not very bad. Not anywhere close to good either. His tests are ok. The problem I have with him is that he doesn't really give you the grade you deserve. I walked in the classroom thinking that he isn't as bad as how people said he is. But I walked out thinking different.
I tried asking for help once when I missed the first couple days of the class (I was out of town) and he told me to just drop his class because I wasn't fit for it. I ended up dropping it.
Susanka is a terrible person. He will screw you out of your grade if he decides he doesn't like you - he did this by pretending I didn't turn in an assignment and forced me to file a grievance with the school. A student asked him to explain a calculation in my course and he berated him in front of the entire class - the student dropped the course.
Really not bad, READ AHEAD and STAY AHEAD, his lectures are a bit scattered if you don't already know what he is going on about. But do your homework the night before lecture and you will get a lot out of his class
This guy is horrible! He gives these tiny tests and quizzes yet somehow manages to throw in the hardest problems he can dream up that are"in the homework, ifyou did it." I feel so set up for failure. Tests and quizzes are tricky and he is so heartless; if you're failing, it's clearly your fault, not his. do not take
This guy is horrible!Several times throughout the course, while going over a test or quiz, he would get to a problem and say "I really wan't expecting anyone to get this"... great thanks! He's so not useful for helping with HW. You have a question, and he flies through it like he's being timed, doesn't give you time to understand. DO NOT TAKE HIM
Pulls the testquiz questions out of nowhere. He is good at math that BTW I think anyone dealing with math for 30 years would be the same or even better, anyways, when it comes to teaching, an amateur tutor on youtube makes more sense than him. DO NOT THINK OF GETTING AN A IN HIS CLASS. WHEN REGISTERING FOR HIS CLASS TAKE A WHILE AND THINK OF UR GPA.
I am writing this to warn future students of this man. Stay away. He is the teacher you hear stories about, the teacher you have "the exam dream" about. For those about to take his class: "Abandon all hope ye who enter." (Dante's Inferno)... you will enter the ninth circle in this class.
Unless you love a class that is made even more difficult by a Teacher who does not care about the success of their students, then I recommend not to take this class. Hardly any time to finish Exams in class, shows up late a lot and we suffer the lost time, not him, I wish I read the comments here before I took his class. I retake calculus now :(
I am a math geek, and this class was a total joke. He is not clear, tests are problems that are not similar to HW problems. Must read ahead and stay ahead if you wish to do well. I squeezed out with an A, but it was all self taught. I wouldn't recommend this teacher to anyone. Oh and he makes sure to remind you on the first day that he has 10 yrd..
Doesn't lecture well, but super helpful (both in person and email) so he makes self-teaching a lot easier. Test or quiz every week, which are kinda hard. Worst part was, he grades the tests out of about 12 points... but enters it in your grade book as out of 30. So if you got 2 point off, in the grade book, it'll say you got 5 points off.
His lectures are all over the board and hard to follow. Most of the time you're better off teaching yourself out of textbook. On a quiz he gave us no on did well but when the class talked to him about it he just got angry and started telling us we should be doing more homework. When the entire class doesn't do well that's a teaching problem.
Always 5min late. Fragmentary lectures when he gives them: half the class is taken up by his obsession with testing, reviewing for tests, and reviewing them afterwards. Unfair grading, criteria changes between tests and he'll forget to explain. Doesn't bother following the standards he sets for students. Would feel justified by this awful review
His teaching style is unclear and unfocused, frequently going off on unnecessary tangents and diversions. On a recent test, the highest score was a B, which shows his teaching is not up to standard. Also, his criteria for grading is unnecessarily tough, as he will count the entire question wrong if you forget to simplify an expression.
partial credit does not exist
Seems like a nice guy. Approachable during office hours, but only has a handful of suggestions if you don't understand the material. Goes off on tangents in class. DEFINITELY teach yourself the chapter before going into class, or you will not be able to understand. The schedule isn't nailed down, though, so you might not be prepared even then.
Not a bad person at all. He's the kind of person I could get along with outside of school. Teaching wise, his lectures are very scattered and disorganized. I often say to myself "What did I just see" after most lectures, and erases things right away. Tests are not very hard but his grading system is not clear and he is a very harsh grader.
I was lost in his class from day one. His lectures make no sense and he teaches differently than the teachers at the math lab. I very much regret taking his class and wish I would have read these reviews beforehand. He says the test problems are just like the homework problems but they seemed much more difficult.
-Tests are hard, so I learned a lot preparing for them. Fair grading. -Extremely knowledgable professor, always happy to help you and he roots for you. -Doesn't take any crap from any loud students. Has no sympathy for laziness. -We're lucky that star teachers like this even exist anymore.
He's a classic lecture-style teacher. You have to be really self-directed and an independent learner to have a prayer of passing. Hit the books. He's not much help if you are struggling with understanding. Expects you to memorize things before knowing what they are for, and if you show up for class, you must have already read the chapter.
Lecture - straight forward, pretty easy to follow, incl. HW q's Test - Harder problems than expected, good reflection on quiz q's Quiz - reasonable amount of q's for amount of time HW - reasonable amount for math class Grading - will drop lowest quiz and lowest test grades He's always very helpful and encourages students to ask him q's!
Very rigorous, not for someone who wants to scrape by with the minimum of knowledge. Extremely personable and helpful during office hours. Lectures can be a bit opaque, because they assume you've read the text - something other students seem not to do.
He's a nice guy, but his methods for teaching aren't great for learning... They seem effective at the moment, but the things that he discusses in-depth are never really that useful. Still, a nice guy.
Incredibly poor and unhelpful teacher. His lecture notes go all over the board in no intelligent order. Expects his students to remember content from previous quarters (read "2-4 quarters") on surprise questions on the tests. If you need to take a class he's teaching, it's entirely worthwhile waiting another quarter for another teacher.
Lecture is kind of disorganised. Better to read book before homework. Good guy Final is not easy.
I honestly dont know why he got such low score in here. When I signed up for his class I was scared because of all of these reviews but he was the only teacher with space in his class so I took his class; I'm glad I did. He's a good teacher, he's there to answer your questions and he also give partial credit. He's funny!
I honestly think his problem is that he hasn't had proper schooling, and it shows during his lectures. He teaches the way he thinks, and skips lots of steps. If you're going to take this class with him, you ought to be good at teaching yourself.
He is a great teacher I ever had. He is a nice person and very willing to help. His class is not hard if you do most of the homework. The homework is not required, same to the attendance. Also, he is a funny and nice guy.
This class was a joke. Not only are his lectures confusing and unorganized, he likes to go off topic and talk about physics rather than how to do problems on the test. I only passed because of self-studying and math lab. His tests are much harder than the HW and don't believe him when he says he gives partial credit. Yikes.
He is a great teacher and honestly I don't understand all those bad reviews. Indeed he is a tough grader, but this is fair and helpful if you want to be successful. I really enjoy his classes, they are not boring at all ,and he made a lot of sense of what he is teaching. He is always available to help, very nice and kind person. I highly recommend
Goes above and beyond to help outside class, but THE toughest grader/class I've ever had. I'm an easy 4.0 student, already had a 4 year degree from a top 20 university, & I'm proudest of the A I earned in his class because I worked like a dog for it. Not a great lecturer but fun guy/funny. Read EVERYTHING & do EVERY textbook problem, not just HW.
His tests are extremely difficult and tend to not make much sense. His tests do not consist of number problems (2-3 out of 10+ at most) but confusing questions on theorems.
He is the best teacher ever: caring, fair, strict, predictable and funny. I love this teacher. I had him for 4 classes and definitely I would take his classes again .
His lectures are all over the place and confusing. He tends to repeat information thats simple, but only touches on the more complex information. I had to read the book to understand formulas since they didn't make sense in class. Definitely expect to teach-yourself a lot of information if you plan to take his class.
Larry was great. I don't understand all the bad reviews on here about him. He explained concepts clearly and related topics back to his past experiences, this is what made class interesting for me. Only 1 hw assignment for each ch (worth a whopping 1 pt) and he drops the lowest exam score. His messy writing was the only thing that bothered me.
Mr. Susanka is unfortunately a teacher I would not recommend. I typically want to give a good rating to my professors, but this is one exception. Besides being disorganized and rather repetitive, Mr. Susanka can at times be quite rude to his students. I would highly caution the student who chooses to take this course!
Larry was a great professor, if you know some basic algebra you should be fine. You do need to study and listen in class I fell asleep in a lecture and failed the next test, but he gives you the 4 out of 5 policy where he wont count the worst test you took. Personally I would take him again he was a good teacher that really cares. I got a B.
Prof. Susanka was interesting. He tends to cut you off if he doesn't like the question or thinks its been explained. He does want you to succeed though. He's easily accessible through email, but might not be super helpful.
We started off the quarter with interesting activities to help us understand the content that quickly became only repetitive lectures. Every time a student asked a question he would only partially answer it, or he would go on a rant about his dog which made the class lost and confused. Grading criteria wasn't clear either. Rude to students at times
I don't recommend this teacher. His tests are so difficult and they're nothing like the questions on the textbook. He doesn't do any of the problems in class and you have to teach yourself the materials. He's also very rude to students and one time he got so mad at a student with autisim(for not bringing a calculator). Just DO NOT take him. :(
his lectures were a little bit confusing and the material were also confusing. Homework is similar to tests. Questions used on test were on the final. I highly recommend you spend time studying in this class or have previous statistics and algebra knowledge to pass this class. This is not the "skip class and fly by" type of class.
Mr. Susanka's lectures were not the most interesting or helpful. He is open to questions, but if you have them make it clear what you mean because he can go off topic. He gives points for trying the hw problems, but I would suggest checking your answers and making sure you understand hw problems to be successful on the tests and in the class.
I took Intro to Statistics with Susanka and found his class to be fairly forgiving. You do not need to turn in class at the beginning of class, he allows you to turn it in at his office as well. His test questions are way easier than the HW questions. He loves to answer your questions as well! His T-Shirts are pretty cool, too.
Hes a kind and responsible professor. He will arrange a lot of homework so that you can understand the material better. However, his lecture is suck. If you want to get an A, dont take his class. Its super hard. 5 quizzes and 6 tests include final.
Dr. Susanka is a super nice guy but this was his first time teaching physics and it went horribly. He is a math instructor who was interested in physics so the college let him teach an engineering physics class due to a lack of instructors. Shame on Bellevue College. Most of the class is failing and about half have dropped the class completely.
Dr. Susanka is a nice guy. However he doesn't really answer your questions. Tests don't really reflect what he is teaching in class and he doesn't post grades until the end of the quarter.
I only have good things to say about him, he cares, he gives feedback, he always looks excited when presenting a topic, he answers emails within a few hours. However, I had to work, A LOT! I'd spend over 15-20 hours doing homework/test but he taught me what hard work really is and I'd feel so proud of myself for getting my reports nicely done. Thx!
He is the absolute worst, one time he wrote on my test "you clearly don't know what's going on in class...???". Not only does it not motivate me, I also find it very unprofessional. I would not recommend his class to others because his lectures are hard to follow and off topic most of the time.
He's a very nice professor, but his grading and tests are difficult. His wording on tests is sometimes confusing and he does not explain things very well, so be prepared to learn on your own!!! If you ask him a question about homework, he will do it on the board but will not explain HOW he got that answer. He just does it, and it's not helpful!!!!!
Susanka is very nice and cares for his students, but his teaching style is unclear. He doesn't clearly explain concepts and doesn't give direct definitions and when teaching he tends to go off topic a lot, which isn't helpful when learning something new.
Each class he does maybe two problems super unclearly whilst going off on random tangents and doesn't even cover all the material for each section. When he actually teaches the course material he just barfs everything out w no organization. Listening to him made me even more confused and u would be better off skipping class and studying at home.
Do not get me started on how much I strongly dislike this professor. Firstly, he is super boring and never changed up his teaching style, how am I supposed to not day dream when all you do is homework problems? Not only is he not good at keeping your attention, he is rude and lacks respect for his students. TWICE I've seen him make students cry.
Larry is a very nice person. I just don't think his teaching style and my learning style meshed well. He is scattered, and the textbook does not really follow along with what he teaches. He does take attendance at random which counts towards your grade. I would not take him again, but only because I learn differently than he teaches.
I found the class quite straightforward. I usually found the tests easier and on the same topic as the (optional) homework. Larry is super charismatic and passionate and is very patient with students. My only criticism is his lecture was sometimes hard for me to focus on. I'm not certain if that was his fault as I am a scatterbrain.
Not the greatest when it comes to teaching concepts that are past Week 4, I would say. He goes off on certain tangents at times during lectures but otherwise good teacher. There are 5 tests(one every two weeks), which are fairly easy if you listen in class and do the given homework. Final consists of the same questions from the 5 tests and is easy.
Fast, energetic lectures. Sometimes gets off topic - which is very fun if you're interested in the material that induces a tangent. He is one of the most responsive instructors I've had regarding messages and help outside of class. His lectures point you to the text, with the assumption you will read it as needed.
I took Intro to Statistics with Larry and it was honestly great. His lectures were interesting and the content wasn't too difficult. As long as you stay on top of the homework (there really isn't much), you will do great on his tests. He literally tells you what questions are coming up on his tests and just changes the numbers in them.
His lectures were fine I guess, the content wasn't difficult and easy to follow. If you plan to look up his homework questions just letting you know he can tell and he'll point it out lmao, good luck.
