best teacher at belmont!
great teacher! knows his stuff and very willing to help!
Very friendly teacher!
He's so great. He's really fair and if you can in anyway defind your answers on a test, he'll give you points.
This class is exceptionally easy, but he's perpetually confused and both he and his book often verge on unintelligible. You'll know a lot of the material going in, but don't expect to get much more.
Highly recommended

Good teacher, crappy advisor.
He's a little scatter-brained and will take a while to learn your name, but he cares about his students and is entertaining. You'll get a lot of information and he's very knowledgeable. His grading system is inconsistent, but generous.
You can BS your way through this course, but if you are serious about learning the Music Biz...it's a great class to take, as long as you apply yourself! He cracks me up!
nice guy but totally out of it
Good guy. You'll learn a lot of stuff. He knows what he's talking about. The tests aren't that hard. Really, if you're one of those people who goes to Belmont and quits after one semester you'll've got your moneys worth after this class.
he knows his stuff. repeats a lot of information so you can get it in your head. tests are fairly easy and extra points are almost a give in. you can learn a lot from this guy if you really applied yourself.
Really knows his stuff. Learn a lot. Dont be fooled you must study for your tests if you want an A. Makes concepts simple and easier to understand. Good guy! Would highly recommend.
A little off. Easy class. Knows what he's talking about and will help you, but only gives one perspective of music industry (ie: working for a country music big-name star). Tests are fairly easy when you get used to them, final is optional if you're satisfied with your grade.
Awesome teacher. He pounds the material into your head and uses real life examples. Keeps class interesting and tells stories that relate to material. Attendence isn't a big deal as long as you learn the material. Exactly what a college class is supposed to be like.
just a big name dropper, and extremely unorganized. just writes a bunch of stuff in a giant circle of chaos every day. takign this class as a freshman i got a C b/c i expected it to be academic and it was just silly.

I really enjoyed his class. Wacholtz doesn't get very personal and can't remember names to save his life, but he knows his stuff and has LOTS of experience, which is much better than any stuffy degree any day. He's been at BU forever & cares about the students' careers. You can always have him help you w/ any musical venture you have. Fairly easy.
If you are into Music Business or Entrepreneurship (and especially both) get your butt into one of Wacholtz's classes...NOW!
He is a really good guy, and very knowledgable about the industry. has given me quite a bit of advice for my own company.
Great teacher, always willing to help. Makes class interesting and has a great way of getting the information into your head! Gives good, useful information, stuff you can actually use one day!
Wacholtz knows what he is talking about...and that is a big time help. A fun teacher that keeps me awake early in the morning, which is not an easy task.
I was put off by him. At the end of the semester he still didn't know my name. I was asked what I wanted to do during class time, I felt belittled by him when I said all I want to do is play the guitar.Fails to understand that that true musicians love music more than money and glory. Springsteen, Hendrix, and many others were broke the first 20-something years of their lives - even after the $ they never sacrificed artistic integrity for the sake of a dollar. Nice guy, just misdirected. It's about music!!
Wacholtz was great! He always had stories and he knows his stuff! He gives study guides for tests, but they're not SUPER easy, so study hard. He does give you the chance to argue your answer when you go over the test in class. He's a nice guy. Repeats stuff a lot. I loved his class!
Wacholtz is a great teacher, i found that he really knew what he was talking about and had a very large impact on the industry, you could leave this class and be set for the industry. I would def. reccomend him to anyone and everyone. Tests are pretty straight foward if you listen to the lectures and he always gives extra points back on tests.
To do good on tests, all you really have to do is show up. My only complaint is that he thinks he knows everyone and everything. He doesn't.
AMazing Teacher. DO NOT Stress out over the test, You will do fine. Study (review your notes and make sure he gives you a review sheet.) YOU WILL BE FINE
Teacher was horrible. Taught from outdated book, and brought outdated information to class. He knew nothing about the country music industry. Acts like he knows it all and is friends with everyone. If you want to learn anything take another teacher. Not helpful and will not answer questions effectively.
Not only does he know what he's talking about but he genuinely cares about his students and is willing to help in any way. Show up and take notes, do study guide and you'll do fine. Be sure to be there the class after the test because he gives partial credit if you can stand by your answers.
awesome teacher, knows what hes talking about and very helpful - teaches the heart of belmont
Amazing teacher! He knows what he's talking about and he's got a lot of advise too!
do yourself a favor and take this class
If you don't get an A in this class, you're stupid. He straight up tells you what's on the test and even gives you points for incredibly wrong answers sometimes. What you learn is what you put in to it. Read the Passman book he gives you. It's a music industry bible. Fun guy too.
He is very into himself. he name drops all the time and i am pretty sure he doesnt know half the people he says he knows if he did then why is he still teaching at belmont and making the students buy his book that has lots of grammar errors in it by the way. he will never know your name. test arent really hard but study it will help.
Decent teacher. uses his own textbook too much. it's not very well written. not sure if he knows what's going on in the real world since he's been out of the music biz for too long. only grades come from tests which are easy and interviews with music industry professionals...
I really liked Wacholtz. I didn't hardly open either text and passed with a 98. only grades are the tests and then you can do the industry visits. Everything he covers in class is also in his book, so if you dont come to class just read the text and you'll be just as good. He is fun and exciting.
Dr. Wacholtz is SUCH a nice guy. He knows what he is teaching. However, he has a hard time communicating the material to the students. His tests can be very vague at some times. He DOES drop your lowest test grade, which is nice.
Wacholtz really knows his stuff. He was a great teacher and involved class members in a way that really took his message home. Class ALWAYS got out early. No need to buy his textbook.
His teaching is all over the place. He talks quickly and writes all over the place illegibly. Hard to follow. A lot of his tests have questions on it about things that hadn't been discussed AND a lot of the questions are hard to fully understand. I really don't recommend him. You deserve to get more out of this class.
He's a great, exciting teacher. He keeps the class fun and interesting. I think his text is great. IT's clear and to the point. He's funny and teaches class in real life situations, which is a great way to learn. He's worked a lot in the music business world. I highly recommend him!
Great professor. Knows a lot more about the industry than he lets on. He is very behind the music business program, having designed a lot of the majors himself. He really loves students who have initiative and eagerly tries to help them get plugged into the music industry. If you want to work in Music Business he is your first stepping stone.
Larry is an amazing guy. He challenged my freshmen class to think in a fun way. We watched a lot of film... legit movies, not just boring docs. Communications of entertainment was a great seminar, first-year experience. I ADORE LARRY!
Though a little sporadic in his teaching style, you'll learn alot of insider knowledge. His test are kind of awkward but he knows that and isn't afraid to give you the benefit of the doubt.
Had him for survey of music business. Best professor I've ever had! I learned SO much in his class and had SO much fun! He's always bright and cheerful, even if he's had a bad day. He wrote the book, so his teaching follows the book pretty well. He really makes sure that his students are ready for work in the music industry and has fun with it!
Wacholtz is the man. Class is somewhat difficult, and he goes off on tangents, but it's a lot of fun. He knows his stuff, if you pay attention you're fine. I didn't even buy the book, not really needed, he says it all in the class.
One of the best teachers I've ever had! So funny and intelligent and makes everything very relatable.
There is nothing quite like a music business teacher. Wacholtz doesn't name drop which is really nice and he really knows what's going on in the industry. His one assignment actually applied to life outside of the classroom and gave me some good contacts in the industry.
Great instructor learned so much in his intro class.
This class is required, but rediculous. Larry "graduated" college...but I cant even believe that. His grammar is bad, his classes are unorganized, and he acts like his students are 3rd graders. Although most of my class mates are block heads, I dont enjoy the slow paced, dumbed down environment.
Great teacher. Doesn't take attendance, lets you correct your own test. Really helpful whenever you ask questions. He really wants to share his knowledge with you. He is a really hands on teacher, it's great.
While Wacholtz has his charming moments, I didn't feel like I was getting my money's worth with this class. We often went over the most memorable subject matter several classes in a row and never covered the difficult topics in depth. Made it through the class with a B without ever buying the Passman book. Heads up: he'll never remember your name.
I thought highly about Dr. Wacholtz and his class until he made a, what probably seemed like to him, a harmless joke about me. I found it pretty rude, taking account that he doesn't know me too well. I'm not sure if it's good practice in the Music Industry at all, but one thing that he teaches by example is to name drop. Comes off pretentious.
Wacholtz is the professor to take if you're looking for an easy A. He lets you correct every test and there is never homework. If you really want to learn about the music industry in depth I would not recommend him. He often repeats lessons and does not care about his students individually. He will not remember you're name.
Awesome!!! He is without a doubt the best professor I've had thus far! He went out of his way to help me make some contacts in the industry, he taught me a lot, and he made class interesting. He lets you correct the tests, if you have an A in the class he exempts you from the final, and there's like 2 assignments outside class.
He is a great professor that at first I did not like but really learned to respect him. He has been in the field for a long time and is great to know for the music industry. He also gives reading from his own papers, you do not even need to buy the book.
Really funny and knows his stuff but he is not the best at teaching it back to his students. He likes to teach mostly through examples and never ever uses powerpoints. Pay attention or you will be done.
Professor Wacholtz teaches in a very informal style- his lectures really have no form to them so if you learn with structured notes, do not take him. He does know what he's talking about and I learned a decent amount of stuff but his teaching style did not mesh with me. In addition, grades are really only based on tests.
He definitely knows his stuff, and he is a fantastic guy. I'd love to just sit and chat with him sometime. But his lecturing style is a bit... odd. You really don't ever get powerpoints with notes or things on the board. He kind of roleplays about how things happen in the industry. Different, interesting, but doesn't work for everybody.
Wonderful professor! He is huge in the music industry and brings that real world experience into the class which leads to learning from real experiences and not out of a text book. Great guy and wants to help students any way he can.
Wacholtz will easily be one of the strangest people you've ever met. He is incredibly scatter-brained and forgetful. He conveys information about the industry in a way that is hard to understand. He simplifies entire areas of the industry down to math equations that are laughable. The guy knows his stuff, but is so out there. Waste of time.
An amazing professor and is highly respected in the music industry. He is extremely caring and wants everyone to pass his class and truly understand the material. Extremely relaxed and is willing to work with you when you have a question. He truly believes everyone can have a successful career in the industry and is willing to help guide you.
SUPER nice teacher. He is so caring and patient to his students. He helps you understand the music industry easily by role playing the information you need to know. The tests are pretty hard but he gives you a few points back on them. There is obviously work, however he is an excellent teacher and person.
AMAZING GUY AND TEACHER. The class is very enjoyable and he applies the information we learn in class by giving realistic scenarios found within the music industry. His tests can be a bit of a doozy if you do not study, but if you show concern for your grade, he will help you out. Would recommend to anyone interested in the music business
He is by far the worse professor I have ever had at this university or the other schools I have attended. But if you are a young, hot thing, you will have no problem for all he does is hit on the hot women in class, especially if you so lots of cleavage and then some
Wacholtz is a fantastic man, and his knowledge base about the music industry and how everything works is unbelievable. However, when it comes to his teaching style, he is all over the place. His handwriting is barely legible, and when you ask a question, he rarely answers it directly because and this can be frustrating.
Rarely answers questions, usually ends up going on a huge tangent and forgetting about you. Have fun trying to read his hieroglyphs... His handwriting is AWFUL! There is no powerpoint or online slideshow, so you have to take notes on the lecture. But he switches topics so fast that you can't keep up. You can't even tell what points to take notes on
I would recommend him. He's a little scattered, but I really have learned quite a bit. Quizzes are commonly done together and in class. Tests have been hit or miss it seems like, and people always have a wide range of grades but he always gives points back after the test so grades do come up. His lectures are all in his book.
Larry gets a little bit scattered sometimes but he cares about your mental health. Seriously just do the work in class and study every now and again and you'll be fine. The class attendance isn't mandatory, and he clearly cares about his job.
This class had so much potential but Wacholtz is not a good professor. He really knows his stuff and has a lot of great connection in the industry but can't teach at all. He gets side tracked easily and takes forever to answer a question. All his tests are online including the final. Great resource, bad professor.
Very hands on and gave great examples. Sometimes hard to understand and didn't give direct answers.
Great guy, scattered professor. He is caring about his students but is unclear with his material. He has a lot of great industry experience but name drops often and does not always answer questions.. His class is doable but definitely a challenge.
Larry. What a guy. Overall the class was very interesting because of how much knowledge and experience he has in the industry. However, sometimes the information he puts on the test is not in the book and his responses to questions can be scattered and confusing. If you study both the book and listen in class, you'll be fine.
Professor Larry is truly a great guy, and is as knowledgable as any of the faculty in the MBU Department. His class was always a lot of fun and he was always willing to give help to students. That said, he did tend to get side tracked on questions frequently, and his tests would have things not covered. He gives points back on every test, though.
Larry's the best! He's usually scatterbrained and doesn't always give direct answers to your questions, but he cares so much about his students and makes class a blast! He often gives extra credit or points back on the tests. If you're willing to put in the effort to pay attention and study well, I strongly suggest him. I'll miss this class!!
Larry is a cool guy and truly knows the industry. I learned a lot but he is very confusing and just assumes that once he says something out loud that it makes sense. I did not really use the book so I personally would not buy it. Test are kind of hard because of his teaching ability. I got a B+ in the class and I feel as if I deserved an A.
Barely used the text. He has great industry experience and is pretty kooky, making for an enjoyable yet realistic class. Hardly assigns homework BUT tests are pretty tough. Write down everything he says because itll probably be on the test. He curves the tests though pretty significantly so you should be fine. Take him if you want an easy A!
Dr. Wacholtz is an amazing person. He really cares about his students and will do anything he can to help you succeed. However, he sometimes gets off track during lectures and you'll end up with a test question about something that didn't get covered or wasn't explained well. If you are having trouble, talk to him and he WILL make things right.
One of the worst classes I have ever taken. He makes it seem like he's teaching you "insider stuff", but none of it is factual and if it is, its from the 90's. Outdated. Unorganized. No factual information. Do not take this class.
I'm graduating this year and this is still one of my favorite classes that I've taken at Belmont. Wacholtz knows what he's talking about - he's lived all of it. He'll say hi to you in the hall years after being in his class and he's a GREAT industry resource! 10/10 would recommend. (He literally wrote one of the textbooks!)
Professor Wacholtz is one of the kindest professors ever, but I cannot recommend taking this class unless you have prior knowledge on the Music Business Industry. His teaching method is a bit all over the place, and often I left class confused. If you have some foundational knowledge on the Industry then this class will likely be a lot of fun!
Professor Wacholtz is clearly very passionate about what he does. He is very nice and accessible, and works very hard to ensure his students get the most out of the class. One of the coolest parts of it was how he simulated business situations within the music industry and had us play them out to the best of our ability. He is awesome!
Professor Wacholtz tells you everything that you need to know from the textbook so actually purchasing the textbook isn't necessary. He has a unique teaching style that worked for me, but it's probably not the best for everyone. However, he's a super nice guy and has so much useful knowledge about the industry!
Doesn't cover anything in class that is on the tests. You're better off just not going to his class and trying to figure it out on your own. 0/10
Dr. Wacholtz is SO nice, caring, and knowledgable about the field. BUT, his tests are SO difficult, and that's all you are graded on besides a few complete grades. I got a B, and I thought I deserved an A with all that I learned and all of the work that I put into the class. Get the book to help with your career, but it won't do anything for class.
I had Larry for a professor in the Radio/Television department at Eastern Washington University in the 80s. His knowledge, patience and insight helped me garner a career in audio engineering and sound design that has lasted now 36 years. My favorite of all my college professors. Eric Jensen Royal Video Productions, Inc. Seattle, WA
I literally loved this man. I could not have asked for a better professor for Survey. He is so understanding and although his tests were lowkey hard, if you actually paid attention in most classes and did some studying (not even a lot), you were fine. He is so sweet and often called famous industry professionals to give us examples which was fun
Mr. Wacholtz is very nice with experience and connections in the industry. His lectures and notes are a little scattered sometimes so printing out the notes he provides then adding to it in the margins and highlighting key parts is a good way to stay on track. Pay attention to details in dates, and dollar amounts in math problems.
Is he nice? Yes. Does he try too hard to be funny? Yes. Is he a good teacher? No. Very disorganized and all over the place. Often repeats certain things 3+ times and skips others (which were later on the test leaving you clueless). Very few homework assignments but several tests that have no business being as hard as they are for his teaching level
He was super kind! Day to day I did enjoy the class, but when it came to grades I barely passed even though I never missed and did all my work on time. His tests are HARD and most of what is on them he doesnt teach in depth. His powerpoints are also really long so its difficult to go back through them for studying purposes.
I literally love dr. Wacholtz but he is just not the best teacher. He has a lot of experience and his powerpoints are helpful, but his tests are way too hard and dont actually test some of the things we covered. His lectures are sometimes really hard to follow. But hes such a gem and so sweet!
PSA if you want to take him, you DO NOT need the Passman book, it's already outdated. The textbook is all online on Kendall Hunt. Anyway, Dr. Wacholtz somehow in 8 weeks taught huge amounts of information about the industry. He can answer all questions you might have about the industry, just make sure you study hard to pass, the tests are not easy!
Hes such a kind man but I have learned absolutely nothing in his class. You ask a question and he doesnt answer it and leaves you unprepared for tests. Theres lots of reading that he doesnt really touch and but even if you do all the work youre still lost. Good luck besties
Prof. Wacholtz is a really entertaining teacher with a lot of experience, however, he doesn't always explain things particularly well, and it can be hard to know what the most important information is when he's talking. But take good notes and you'll be good!
Prof Wacholtz is such a kind and caring man but a terrible teacher. Questions asked in class would be met with long, strung-out stories that had nothing to do with the question, his lectures did not correspond with any tests or quizzes, and the information provided to us seemed outdated.
Dr. Wacholtz is a great professor. He has first-hand experience in the industry and is open to helping anyone inside and outside of the classroom. Had a great time in this class.
Dr. Wacholtz is an awesome professor and keeps class interesting. This was one of my favorite classes last semester. He is very insightful and has a lot of experience in the music industry. I learned a lot from him and would take this class again.
This class felt like a fever dream. He races through the material with a test or quiz almost every class. He'll give a 30 minute incoherent presentation and then have everyone take a collaborative test. Nobody has any idea how to answer any of the questions so he'll end up just giving you the answers. It was fun but I learned nothing.
This guy is so funny and weird. All quizzes and tests are taken with a group and are super easy. Definitely take Dr. L if you can.
Larry is so sweet and I love him. However, taking him for an online class was extremely challenging. He takes a long time to respond to e-mails which makes answering questions difficult. There has also been a lot of technological issues this semester (not his fault). If you are worried about struggling in this class, don't. You will be fine.
I love this proffesor! He was so kind and caring and has years of experience in the music industry and can answer any question you throw at him. There are group quizes and the class is not hard.
Worse teacher I've every had period
Larry is so sweet it's hard to hate him. You will laugh so much, but learn so very little! He assigns a lot of reading on the syllabus but never actually follows it so don't overwork yourself when you don't have to. Its awful to take if you really want to learn about the music business and he does not respond to emails or can work canvas
Such a nice guy. As long as you pay decent attention in class tests/quizzes should be easy
I loved Larry, he's so funny and a really chill guy. Now... he does a lot of storytelling, and his lectures are just him repeating exactly what the textbook says until it says something he disagrees with (and he'll make sure you know), but the material is easy, so it balances out... sort of.
