Labs are hard, and the final is though.
he's hard but he really knows his stuff and you will definetly learn from him
Really good teacher, know's what he's talking about and is very helpful
A little tough but always willing to help
This course is a little tough, but he's extremely helpful and very friendly.
Very thorough, very student-friendly.
Really hard, the hardest teacher I have ever had at Towson. But nice too.
nice, helpful, hard class, hard grader
Very nice willing to help you-tests are very hard and you must do all readings
The class maybe hard if you are not a science major, but he's very helpful.
Wimmers is cool; hard class, but U learn a lot; only take if you are a bio major
very hard, hated the class
The class is HARD, but he is really nice.
Class is hard. He is very helpful, but like I said...Class is hard!
Always helpful. Nice guy, always has review sessions. I love this teaching style
He's awesome, extremely nice! Very hard exams though :-/
very demanding, but helpful; provide many study sessions, tests are very hard
class is somewhat hard. don't have to come to class to pass
he's really nice, but the class is HARD!
Great professor, helps whenever needed, but must study to do well!
The class was extremely hard, but if you work for it, it wil pay off in the end!
He is great. Hard, must study. Loves to talk after class about science... will help you if you ask or fail a test.
This is a diamond in the rough of the Smith Building. One of the few people I've come across here (in all three departments) that can actually teach. Despite what others say, his tests are very easy, esp since he is very lenient and nice in the way he grades. I couldn't recommend anyone more.
Class was very hard, really need to study to keep up,if you dont stay on top of everything you will definitely fall behind quickly, professor knows his stuff
Dr Wimmers is such a nice guy! He is a crazy science nut, but he is always willing to help. I have never met a teacher more dedicated to helping his students succeed. This is a hard class, but study and you will do well. If you have to take biology, definitely take Dr Wimmers.
No one breaks down material as clearly and easy to understand as Wimmers. You will never find another biology teacher at this school who compares. He paints you a picture every lecture. If you don't understand bio with Wimmers, you have no hope every understanding. On top of that, his tests are easy
Great guy! Always willing to go over material with you. He has a quiz and a review session once a week. As long as you keep with the work you'll do fine. Tests arn't difficult when you study. Very fair grading. Always telling the class interesting stuff thats going on in the bio world. Take him!
He is a great professor who cares about his students. He makes biology seem so cool. His tests are okay, you know what to expect and you should study.
this guy is a great teacher and really wants the students to succeed and learn in the class. the tests can be pretty hard but study and pay attention and you'll be ok. first time biology was actually made interesting........i highly recommend taking him
GREAT,EXCELLENT, funny professor and he makes the class interesting. He takes the time to explain things and is always available for help. The class is a little challenging but if you attend his review sessions and follow his study guides you'll do fine on his tests.
He is a very good teacher, however you must study...A LOT. His tests are hard but he is always willing to help.
TAKE THIS CLASS! He is GREAT at explaining everything to you, and will always stay after or make time to help you out! Tests are difficult so study but they are passable. TAKE HIM!
He is a good teacher and you will leave that class feeling like you learned something valuable and not like you just wasted 50 min of your life! But the tests are hard so study and do the study guides and use the cd in the txtbk b/c it helps. And ask him too cuz he's willing to help!
Wimmers is an excellent professor who really knows his stuff. You can tell be his lecturing that he really enjoys his job because he is enthustiastic. You do have to work hard for this class, but if you go to class, read, and do the study guides for the tests you should do fine.
Dr. Wimmers' dedication to his students, and passion for science and teaching, is unquestionable and admirable. But it's about time someone added a chili pepper for the stallion :-)
Dr. Wimmers is an awesome teacher. He really knows his biology. He's very helpful and explains things very well.
Awesome, awesome, AWESOME professor! I loved going to his lectures, he's really smart, passionate about what he does, and he has a great sence of humor. He's always more than willing to help with anything, including lab reports. Take him and work hard, you won't regret it.
Wimmers is the best teacher I've had at Towson. He will bend over backwards to help you understand the material. He offers extra study sessions to answer any questions you may have prior to each exam. Also, he makes learning fun. Take him if you can!!!
Dr. Wimmers is awsome. He always has easy to understand stories that relate to the class to help you get it better. He will answer all of your questions and he is a very nice guy.

teaches kinda fast sometimes. but got a review day to answer any questions.
oops i meant to say 201. yea the stories are great; interesting and fascinating.
I personally can't really stand him...his class is the only class in which I am having problems in. Unfortunately, Ive heard he's one of the best in the department...oh, and watch out, he spits A LOT!!
He is a very fun and interesting teacher. He does not play when it comes to the tests and the Lab reports. Even though he could be a harsh grader, if you are having difficulty in the class, he has no problem in helping you with whatever the problem is. I think he is great teacher!
By far the best teacher ive had. His tests are difficult but he evaluates his questions at the end and gives extra points if needed. He really cares about his students and gives great examples. a must take for a science major.
Very nice and interactive teacher to work with. When you present he asks you tons of questions, so just know your stuff! He is a fair grader though.
his tests are hard to pass unless you are an overacheiver. He gives an essay on every test that takes up too much time. I would NOT RECOMMEND HIM!!!
gives great study guides for every exam. keeps u over prepared all the time, so tests are easy. easy A with a lil work
One of the best teachers at Towson :)
He knows what he's doing
He's really cool. He explains things very well. If you pay attention or even come to class (which is not mandatory) you should pass every test because he covers all the material. Also gives study guide on blackboard which are very helpful.
READ THE CHAPTERS BEFORE YOU GO TO HIS CLASS!!!!!!!!!!!! If not u will not know what hes talking about. His tests are hard and time consuming. If you try hard in his class and read the book...will get a good grade. Hes a very nice professor and I'd recomend him to everyone. Just gotta put in the effort.
He's the best professor I've had so far at Towson. Always explains everything so well, and very helpful. Lectures aren't boring, and are worth going to because he gives you all the information you'll need to know! He uses blackboard, which is very helpful because you can keep up with your grades and find study and lab guides.
Very helpful. Will go way out of his way to help someone. Always will stay after lab to help you with your report.
Great teacher. Keeps class interesting and is an overall great guy. Have to be pretty knowledgable on the subject matter to do well. Tests are fairly easy if you know what's up. Has one pop quiz a week, making attendance pretty crucial. Great class if you love biology. Labs were fun too.
You can learn a lot from this class.
Pretty hard class!!! I actually changed my major from biology to undecided after taking him. He goes very fast & you need to read teh book before, during, and after class to get an A im sure! Lab time was fun & easy though!
He's a really great man will go out of his way to help you and tries to keep it interesting with little stories. His tests are pretty hard he doesn't teach labs anymore so interaction is limited which makes tests even more difficult. Weekly quizzes keep require you to attend the lecture. If you understand and like bio it's a good class.
He does an excellent job in teaching a very difficult class. He gives pop quizzes but only counts the 10 highest. The tests are detailed (multiple choice/short answer/essay) but are do-able. He's a funny guy and tries to lighten up the class at times. There is a lot of info and you need to read the book but he's the guy to take this class with!
awsome
hard course but a great professor. he really knows what he's talking about and actually shows interest in his students. tests are pretty tough, but he gives study guides which are very helpful. he's very approachable and a nice guy. i reccommend him. again, its a tough class that requires you to work a lot, but if you actually want to learn take it
Great professor. He has a great interest in his students and is willing to work with you to help you as needed. His tests are hard, but he provides a study guide and study sessions.
go to the study sessions that he has weekly, his tests are hard ..just put forth the effort and you should get a B..the lab reports stink but helps you learn how to write a proper one..have four tests, weekly quizes, and a final.
Very knowledgable man but so much detail to know for tests! Only take if you want to learn everyThing about cells and genetics. There are many easier bio teachers that teach less material and you can get an easy grade from, but dr. wimmers will teach you everything there is to know. Labs were graded harshly and tests were hard. Study early.
Hard class but great proffessor, goes out of his way to make sure students understand and also tries to make the class interesting but you have to study!!! after all this is bio...
this class was really hard. you will have to study a lot and read the book outside of class. He moves REALLY fast in class. Probably easier intro biology teachers. very nice guy, willing to help.
Dr.Wimmers is a wonderful professor, he is helpful outside of the classroom, everytime i go to ask for help, he always willing to help and ask me to come back for any questions. He is clear, his tests are not very hard, he is always overprepare you for the tests. STUDY HARD,and you will do well.
Dr. Wimmers is one of the best teachers, especially for Biology. You just have to study hard because his tests make you think. But he is a great teacher and is very approachable. He's also the Assistant Dean of the graduate science school, so he is very smart.
This guy is simply an amazing professor. His lectures are clear and he is always willing to help. He made learning fun. He is one of the best teachers to have. Be prepared to read and study. (which is expected for any biology class)Dr. Wimmers knows his stuff and he is Awesome!
Extremely harsh grader! He expects you to memorize everything, I mean EVERYTHING! The class probably wouldn't have been so hard with another teacher. Wouldn't recommend unless you are amazing at bio
Hardest grader of life! DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! He expects you to know everything that he knows which is impossible since he has been teaching it for forever! I think he's rude too! Avoid this teacher!!
Such a wonderful professor. He is so helpful, and very approchable outside of the classroom.
he is a very nice person and willing to help students when asked, but i wouldn't recommend his as a teacher. he is very intelligent and speaks over students' heads a lot of the time. attendance is not mandatory for lecture, but i recommend attending all of them. lab attendance is required. USE THE TEXT BOOK IF YOU WANT A GOOD GRADE!!!
Most amazing teacher ever! I had Dr. Wimmers last semester and i have to say he's the best professor I've had so far at Towson. He takes time explain materials in details and arranges several review sessions outside of class to help students. Overall, a very helpful teacher but students must prepare to work hard to earn a good grade!
Dr. Wimmers is absolutely amazing. Very clear, high expectations, but if you want to major in biology i would recommend no one else. He does weed people out, but he is very fair and if you seek him out will go above and beyond to help you study, review, etc. TAKE HIM! WONDERFUL PROFESSOR!
Dr. Wimmers is an outstanding professor. I did not focus like I should have when i took it my first semester of freshman year, but he is extremely knowledgeable and goes above and beyond to help if you go to him. The coursework is hard and designed to weed people out, but he tells you its only for majors, maybe you should switch if you cant take it
Very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the subject. Really helpful. A cool guy all around. BTW, class is not mandatory, but lab is.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. Half the class withdrew because they were doing so poorly. He didn't take any blame for how poorly the students were doing and just kept moving on way too fast. Not helpful one on one either, and just encourages withdrawl instead of helping. If you don't want to have to retake this class don't take it with him!
The other reviews are from people who didn't want to work. He is a really great teacher who really knows what he's talking about. He's very smart and expects a lot from his students. He tells you HOW to study his class. You have to study in his class, he will make you work hard, but you will know the material when you're done. Not an easy A.
Dr.Wimmers is really helpful and he offers oral exams, which i advise you to take advantage of if youre not doing well on the written exams. All exams are about bein able to apply the info. Do not take this for a gen ed! dont take any bio201 for a gen ed lol its a make or break course for those who think they want to be a Bio major.

such a wonderful wonderful professor! Very knowledgeable, approachable and always there whenever you need help. I would definitely recommend him if you are a science major because you WILL get A LOT out of this class and all of your hard work will eventually will be paid off.but do not take it if you are not science major. not an easy A!
Do not take this class if you are not a Biol major. This is not an easy class. I took this for a gen ed and this class turned out to be the hardest one I had. Lot of information per test 4 chapter worth. If you are a science major it is worth it but for other majors it's a lot of info you have to remember.
A very nice professor and knows what he is teaching. Definitely reccommend him. and This class is not that hard if you word hard and understand the materials.
If you want to persue biology as a career, I recommend Prof. Wimmers; however, if you arent, do not take him. His lectures are in depth but clear. His tests on the other hand are difficult because he tends to word questions in a weird manner. There are 3 tests, a final that is half cumulative and half on the last few chapters, and 3 or4 lab reports
He was an okay teacher. But please make sure that if your not a bio major you don't take him. You will hate it. And don't believe the grade he tells you that you have. He told me i was going to get a B- so i got super pumped and he gave me a C and said he never said i was going to get a B-even after i showed him the paper her gave me. class is hard
Went from a D- to a B-. Its possible to pass this class lol. It's all about being prepared for the exams. Make sure you know the material in and out and do the study guides. Give yourself days to study because its content heavy. 3 exams, 11 quizzes (every thursday), and a final. Lectures are vital! Take good notes and you won't even need the book.
Extremely difficult. If bio isn't your major DO NOT TAKE IT. Dr. Wimmers is a nice guy and a great professor however he moves very quickly and oftentimes concepts are not thoroughly explained. Class consists of 3 exams and one cumulative final. Although the book was used a lot, most of the exam questions are taken straight from lecture material.
This is extremely hard content no matter what teacher you have. However, Dr. Wimmers is willing to help you in whatever way he can in order for you to succeed. For me, I had a hard time paying attention in lecture because I'm not interested in biology at all. read the book and go to him for help. Use the resources available and you will be fine.
Bio 201 is never easy - the level of work demanded (a lot) is normal for the course. it IS a weeder class. But what I love about Dr. Wimmers is how approachable he is. He's happy to answer any question, about lecture or graduate school, during lecture or during office hours. You can tell he loves teaching & what he teaches, and I love that.
Wimmers is the Smartest teacher to date.you NEED the textbook. When i was struggling, he showed me a different way to study which really helped. You really need to study to pass. This is biology. The way he teaches puts everything together. HE writes what he will go over on the board. Take a pic and use that as a startign point for your notes!
Dr. Wimmers is great, but this is biology. It's a hard class but if you pay attention in lecturein your lab and put the time in, you will pass. He puts up study guides for you to fill out on Blackboard which helped me a lot. He's also a funny guy who cares about his students. Also, you need the textbook for online homework assignments.
He lectures to the students like were his colleagues. If you don't know something he'll catch a slight attitude about it and talk about how you should know it. He gives 2 points of extra credit which does NOT help at all. His tests are extremely hard and overall if you want a C just take another professor.
Dr. Wimmers makes BIO 202 very interesting. The class is not easy but he made learning the material fun. The tests are tough and the material is very dense but if you study throughout the semester instead of waiting until the night before the test you should do fine. Dr. Wimmers is very easy to talk to and is always willing to help you out.
Dr. Wimmers is very knowledgeable and definitely knows the subject matter well. No doubt about it... However, he often gets sassy with students when they ask "simple" questions about topics that they are struggling with. He is not a very understanding professor. Tests are extremely difficult. This class will test your sanity.
Dr. Wimmers is the best! Don't get me wrong this class is though and you need to work, but Dr. Wimmers makes it possible to do well. He really wants to help each of the students. He is my favorite professor at Towson
Teaches differently than most do. He records himself talking over top of powerpoints and posts them online as a lecture and does practice problems in class. Different but I found it very helpful. Its a hard class but he tries his best to make it easy.
Wimmers is a great professor but this is an intense course that requires you to work very hard. Expect one to two hour online lectures, 40 question pre-class quizzes, 10 question in-class quizzes, and note-taking from the book in addition to in-class time to do well. I spend about 20 hours a week on this class alone.
Professor Wimmers is an excellent teacher. He goes over the information well with his online lectures that you have to listen to on your own time. This class is very time consuming outside of class, but it is definitely worth it. He knows what he is talking about and I believe this class was very beneficial to take.
The BEst professor I had so far at Towson. Records lecture, and does excercises in class which are exactly going to be on the exam. Amazing lectures and makes you understand everything well..100% recommend.
Dr. Wimmers is a very knowledgable professor and gives great explanations for the course material. He records lectures and posts them online. Great Professor!
Dr. Wimmers has been my favorite professor by far at Towson. If you do what he tells you to do, (show up to class, read the book, watch his pre-recorded lectures) there is no way you won't pass this class.
Dr. Wimmers is simply one of the best professors I've had. I only had him for the lab portion of BIOL200, but he always taught the class in an interesting manner. He's hilarious and will always make the three-hour lab seem fun. He grades slightly tougher than others but will provide great feedback and means for you to do well. Definitely, recommend
VERY helpful. Hybrid class so had to write notes down and listen to hour-long lectures outside of class. During class we would go over questions relating to the chapters we were going over. He uploads the in-class lecture recordings and gives the answers to the questions. Weekly quizzes of 10 questions, but he drops the lowest three. Very nice
Great professor. I highly recommend taking him over most other bio professors.
Dr. Wimmers is very rude. I approached him after class and explained I hadn't taken any classes for 5 years because I was in the military and that the material confused me. He said being a Biology major isn't for everyone and that they should start screening people before letting them in the major. I dropped his class. Passed BIO202 with an A.
This is a lab class which means its 3 hour lecture once per week do not skip. Wimmers makes you work for your grade. And he expects you to take imitative to reach out to him if you are struggling. He is also a tough cookie when it comes to lab regulations you will pass the class if you stay on top of your work.
So overall he is a solid teacher. However he wants students to learn outside of class using his prerecorded lectures, while in class he is scenario heavy with the clickers(application problems). So for me this was not my learning style at all, but he is a awesome teacher and if you can learn that way I would recommend him for sure.
Dr. Wimmers is a great professor. He is very clear on what you need to know for the exams and prepares you well for them. If you show up to class and pay attention to the practice problems you will be prepared. You have to be ready to put lots of time aside to study, but as long as you put in effort the class is great.
Dr. Wimmers is a good professor. His teaching style makes it very easy to understand the material. If you take the time to at least watch some of his prerecorded lectures you can piece the rest together when you go over application clicker questions in class. Easy to study for tests because he posts powerpoints with the clicker questions.
He gives a quiz before every class and grades out of best ten, so participation is mandatory. Do Not Slack! You will get lost very quick. Take advantage of his pre-recorded lectures. If you meet with him during his office hours - come with questions prepared, rec. to understand his application ques! CON:He can be very opinionated and discouraging.
The material is hard, but if you watch all of his prerecorded lectures and pay attention in class, it should be fine. Attendance is mandatory because you have to use a clicker to answer in-class questions, but they only count for participation.
Dr. Wimmers is a very tough professor, but he's fair. He can come off as extremely arrogant but he tries to pick out students he thinks are talented in the sciences, he definitely is available outside class as well. If you're expecting not to learn anything and pass BIOL200 isn't for you, watch the lecture before coming to class and you'll be fine.
Honestly he is okay, but not all that great. He's a tough professor and gave quizzes every single class. All your grade is based on is quizzes and exams. But, this class is extremely tough so choose your professor for this class WISELY!!
Dr. Wimmers is such a sweet and helpful professor. He is extremely patient, especially when you see him during office hours. Throughout the semester, he really helped me understand concepts if I didn't get them right and always encouraged me to do my best! Even when I was stressed about my grade, he assured me it would be okay, and I would do well.
Wimmers is very passionate for biology (especially plant bio, so expect to hear at least one rant about that), and genuinely wants his students to succeed. Testing can be difficult just due to subject matter, but not anymore difficult than any other professor. Is very conversational, and will remember you if you have a conversation with him.
His class was better in person. Now that everything is online because of covid-19, I feel like hes making the class way too hard to overcompensate. The tests only consist of application questions now, which is very hard. These are the kinds of questions for a medical student, not a beginner freshman level class. My hair is gray because of him.
Very good class format. It helped me understand the information by practicing the material in class. He taught very clearly and kept students very up to date. He has been helpful with online assignments by making weekly announcements of the things students should do that week. He is a great teacher for students to take for an intro to biology.
Quiz every week when we were still doing in-person classes. The textbook doesn't correlate to what the exams are on and the quizzes have very confusing wording. Save yourself the headache and take Philip Clark if he's available
We had lots of assignments however met were just graded off of completion. Mid term and a final as well as 2 graded lab posts on accuracy. Attendance was not mandatory and lectures were recorded. He was so nice and was always willing to help and clarify.
There was a total of 24 assignments, and two tests. The assignments were all pretty easy to me, but I never got to know the Professor himself. We had a graduate student who taught the class (instructions were given by him) and she was very sweet, and understanding. As long as all assignments were turned in by end of semester, full credit was given.
Larry seems to have gotten down online learning. His polls test your knowledge in class and keep me engaged. I basically made a flash card out of every slide and memorized those front to back, didnt feel like I needed to read the textbook because he said nothing he didnt talk about in lecture would be tested on, and this is usually the case.
Honestly, great teacher. Participation isn't mandatory but if you do come to class you get points--which seriously adds up. The lectures were engaging and he answers questions well. If you don't read the textbook you probably won't pass. He also responds to emails fast so that was always a plus.
Probably one of my favorite lab teachers that I had. Blackboard site is easy to navigate. And he always does refreshers of the previous week in the beginning of class. Always makes sure you understand exactly what your doing. Definitely recommend him.
Terrible professor and class. Exams accounted for 40% of your overall grade in the class. Nothing but short answer questions that are insanely hard. Very confusing lectures and reviews where he would misspeak frequently. Did not care how students did in his class and did not accommodate whatsoever. "Extra credit" meant a graded paper. AVOID HIM!!
I never normally rate professors because I try to cut them slack, but he is just not a good one. Tests made up most of the grade in the class and he had to curve all of them. Was very confusing and would lecture on wrong information. Wish someone would have rated him on this class, I never would have taken him. Most people had to drop.
This is supposed to be a freshman-level course. Bio is generally a difficult topic but his lectures make it so much more confusing. He wastes time talking about things we do not need to know but he thinks are "important to know," which stresses me out. He also had an entire chapter on the exam that we did not go over in class.
Nice professor but exams were too difficult for an entry-level course. He heavily curves exams, but tests were so hard that I'd still perform below average. He records his lectures so that's a plus. I was 1% away from a B+ and he would not budge. I am usually a straight A student in college but I got a B in this course, so take that how you will.
Very easy class if you just take notes and stay on top of things. He structures the class in a way that makes it almost impossible to fail the tests unless you are slacking off. The content on the exams is exactly what you read about and go over on the quizzes, and he also gives you questions in the lecture that will be on the exams!
