This guy is such a great professor. One of the few people who is both passionate about the subject he is teaching and concerned about making sure that his students learn the material. Always challenges his students with intesesting ideas.
The worst teacher I have ever had. Gets off the subject too much, talks really fast, doesnt have a schedule, always changing his mind, and is very unsympathetic to students needs. Will never take another class from this man.
The worse... avoid him at all costs
You cannot understand what he is teaching. He goes off subject and rambles. I would NEVER recommend taking a class from him if you want a good grade!!
He isn't the hardest prof. but if you try hard you'll do fine.
Oh my god. He was horrible, I know he loves the subject, but he can't teach it worth crap. I've never known a teacher who did that. He thinks that you already know it, so he spends minimal time explaining what everything means...
Larry is my inspiration, he really chalenged me, and made me think hard and learn a lot, he isn't the easiest teacher in the world, but he tries hard and is very nice. These were my best classes at pierce.
He is very good, but not if you don't want to work on your own. His lectures are not a substitute for reading, but are a supplement to it. He cares a lot about his students, but at the same time he is very rigorous and will not give academic slack. If you are prepared and a good student, you will find that he adds a lot to the class and subject.
Math sucks, but this is the only teacher who I've taken it from who seems to have a genuine love of the subject. I must admit, his enthusiasm is slightly contagious, and makes the subject all that much easier. Always open to new interpretations and ideas, he adds life to this otherwise dull topic.
He's tough, but knows his stuff. IMO the best math teacher at peirce.

He seems to know his stuff, but can not teach. His requirements change, sometimes daily. Definitely inconsistant.
cute but undependable, constantly late. Ambiguous and unpredictable.I wasn't sure of final grade until I got it due to "fudge factors" and inconsistant grading standards: it made me nervous!!
I took his Statistics class and liked it, but he is definately not for everyone. If you understand the basic concepts fairly well his class is fascinating, but if you don't, you will be lost. He's a good instructor for people who like and understand math. Those who don't: Rogers and Granata are your best bets.
He was a very inspiring teacher, but be warned that he is also very challenging, lots of homework and somewhat hard tests, if you do your work you will do fine in the class.
I was looking forward to learning a lot in this class and I came out feeling like I knew less than when I went in, way too much homework, no way to get it all done and rediculus grading styles with "fudge factor" it's as creepy as it sounds.
HORRIBLE. no other words... he moves too fast, doesn't explain what it is you are supposed to be learning, and doesn't care if you don't get it.
He's a great teacher. He's very understandings if you just talk to him, and treat him with respect. Fun class because he is so passionate about the subject. Tests are hard, but isn't that the point. Tests aren't worth that much though.
I've never had a math teacher who was more interested in student learning than Wiseman. He is genuine and helpful.
This is a demanding but very rewarding class. There is a lot of assigned homework but absolutely necessary with this subject. Larry is an awesome instructor that really cares about the students' comprehension of the material. About the third week you will feel lost but keep at it, work hard and you will do just fine.
Responds positively, compassionately to all questions. Do ALL of the homework/reading assigned. You?ll need it; lectures (fast-paced and interesting) more valuable if you have exposure to the content prior. 1/3 of your grade is homework + attendance, 2/3 is Group Project + Tests. Able to use concepts immediately in business. Highly recommended!
Well, I highly recommend NOT taking any class from this teacher. He is a funny and smart man, but he is a horrible teacher. I found myself confused everytime I went to class and heard his lecture. I am now taking Fikar for statistics and I REALLY recommend taking her instead. You will understand everything so much better!
Hard class, but lots of extra credit opportunities.
Larry can't teach. He is a Math Major and still makes lots of mistakes and is corrected by students on errors. He doesn't explain example problems on board and give mega lots of H/W. Tests are very difficult and lengthy, he talks to himself and laughs out loud writing problems on board. Has poor lighting. Is a bad choice for learning anything.
Terrible teacher in teaching an upper level math. Lot's of homework and he can't even explain the math problems. He is a complete waste of time and energy to be on the faculty at the College
He is the guy who really know mathematics! I learned a lot in his class! He's a fun guy! Take his class! awesome!
Very kind person who seems to want to help, but VERY POOR professor. Class lectures were not helpful. He harped on formulas, but rarely translated into application. Overly technical and difficult for an intro class. Lots of homework, difficult tests. I would not recommend Larry's Stats class
Hard tester, but this is college and he definately makes the class college level. You do have to study and you do have to read the book and attend class to get a good grade. He gives lots of xtra credit to make up for the difficulty of the class. A VERY HELPFUL&PASSIONATE TEACHER! Take this class if you want to learn; if not take it from some 1 els
Has tendencies to go off topic slightly to related things. Can be frustrating at times, but also allows for a deeper understanding in the long run (This is my field of study). People who did not have a vested interest in the course found this very difficult due to these ramblings.
Extremely smart and an awesome guy. However, his teaching skills are very low, will cover boards with a question and makes constant mistakes or can't answer why something is what it is. I believe he is just to smart to dumb this subject down for people to learn it.
Larry truly carries compassion, not only into intelligence but into teaching to others. Because of that he admits his mistakes and gives extra points. However I understand that some people have difficulty understanding his lectures due to the complexity of the subject, Larry would make a great math theory teacher especially because he is helpful.
He was very nice and extremely smart, but he is better suited to be a rocket scientist than a teacher. The lectures I had were best described as "sit down and hold on for your life". There was not enough time to write notes AND attempt to comprehend the subject.I found the lectures very frustrating. I also received a disappointing grade. Fall '07.
Larry was a difficult teacher and I ended up with a 3.3 in his class by kicking butt on the final group project. At times I would get behind, but he was ALWAYS willing to try and help me understand. I enjoyed his zest for life. I do think he is a little too smart to teach and gets a little scatterbrained sometimes, but overall, excellent teacher.
As a 4.0 student, I found this instructor seriously lacking in teaching skill, extremely scatterbrained, unorganized, and frustrating. His grading policy is all over the board, as are his lectures...a total nightmare. For those of you who truly want to learn: CONSIDER YOURSELF WARNED
Very nice guy who is willing to help but all he did was confuse me. I took Stats in High school and I had to go back to my high school teacher to understand it because the way he was teaching had me so thrown off. Just show up and attempt everything. I ended with a 3.5 but I honestly think that is because I went back to my hs teacher so often.
Over all a nice guy. I had him for statistics,a fairly easy class. He gave plenty of extra credit, but he would never tell me my grade so I always felt nervous. I ended up with a 3.5 and I generally hate math. What made him difficult was 1) he is a bit scatter brained and 2)his methods/problems on tests don't always follow those of the book
He is a wonderful guy. I haven't finished his class yet. I had one test, and though I know I totally understand how to do everything, I did terrible. Gives lots of options for extra credit. Extremely willing to help. He seems like a very hyper guy, and he talks super fast. Overall, He is a really nice person, and very caring! :) :)
Larry is brilliant, and knows Statistics inside and out. He is a HARD teacher, make no mistake about that, but if you put in the work you can do fine. I felt lost half the time, but worked my ass off and got an A. That's the entire key - do all the work. If you have to take other classes the same quarter, take easier ones.
Took Stats from Larry. At first felt overwhelmed and didn't understand. But by the end it made sense and was pretty easy. He's a brilliant guy and has a love of math like no other. He's very personable, wants everyone to do well, talks really fast. Hard to follow sometimes but he's a nice, interesting prof, Would take another class from him.
He's really good and passionate about math, but I wouldn't recommend him first nor last, somewhere between. He's not good at all with time and he'll teach really slow at first (mind you, talks really fast), then near the end of quarter he rushes and it's hard to maintain the material. Easy to pass. Instead of percentages, everything is in points.
Larry is awesome! Statistics is hard! You can do very well in his class if you work hard & want to. The material isn't easy & he has his own style of teaching that's overwhelming at times, but there are many helpful resources outside of the lecture to help you. His passion for teaching, cheery mood & sense of humor made the class fun & enjoyable. :)
Horrible instructor. Talks way too fast, and makes multiple mistakes on the board regularly. He also goes off topic quite a bit. His attendance policy is stricter than any I have ever experienced (miss a single day, write a page on it). Do yourself a favor, use a tutor/youtube to learn the concepts rather than trying to comprehend what he says.
Professor Wiseman is a great guy--no doubt about that. His bubbly personality makes him a very likeable person--however, his teaching does not. I felt he talked WAY too fast most of the time, and was unable to "dumb things down" when clarification was needed. But seriously, this guy is a math genius. Just do all the work, and you'll be okay.
I enjoyed this class, it was very difficult and at some points very time consuming, but the rest of the quarter was pretty easy. Tests are not that important to pass the class, good material, and recommended for a first math class
I took this stats class during summer quarter, there is a lot of reading and homework but considering the subject it is very necessary. When I felt overwhelmed I waited a day to let it sink in and then it all clicked, take lots of notes and study you will do fine. BTW do all the homework and extra work it will help in the long run
Mr. Wiseman is an okay teacher. But if you are one of those people who don't get math easily, I recommend you to take a different teacher. First of all he takes forever to explain a simple question, second he doesn't really help, if he tries, it's still confusing. His assignments are crazy and difficult. You will regret taking this teacher.
He is a very hard professor, I suggest if you need to take this class to take it with someone else. He is not clear on what he wants, and he does not explain things well. When you ask for help he does not help you, he just makes it more confusing. I know how to do math I have already taken Pre-Calc but I don't understand this professors class.
he is a very nice and slightl wakey man, however he has a very unrealistic idea of all the work most sutdents have out side of the class, becuase one part of this class is two 10 hour projects
I beg you, do not take him as a teacher. He is extremely smart but very unorganized and scatterbrained in his lessons. Spare yourself.
He is a great teacher but is not very clear in explaining some concepts. We used the text book a lot and he gives homework almost every night. He gives two huge projects. First is easy and the second is a computer program that deals with 3D graphing. Very frustrating and complicated.
Wiseman was a terrible teacher. He used so many big words in describing things, it was like we should of already known what he was teaching us. The class tutor we had taught me more then the teacher did. I do not recommend this teacher.
This was one of the hardest classes I have ever taken. He is a very nice person, but not such a good teacher. He isn't very clear, and isn't too helpful. His 2 projects took me a lot longer than 10 hours, more like 20, but mainly because I set high expectations for myself. It was definitely a struggle, and definitely isn't an easy A.
He talks WAY to fast. He is very hard to understand and doesn't explain the homework very well. I got a good grade, but I struggled incredibly in the class.
One of the best teacher I ever had in my life. He loves his job. He is very professional, passionate and he has a great sense of humor. Math can be very boring sometimes, but you won't feel that way at his class.
Never miss class. Be prepared to teach yourself material and study! As long as you do better than the rest of the class you will get a high grade. There is a lot of extra credit offered.
The nicest guy you could meet. I've only taken him for 200 level classes, and I will say I don't think the lectures are helpful. He doesn't really boil things down to what you really need to know for each section. It's typically rambling and tough to follow. At these level classes you should be able to teach yourself anyways.
Nicest guy you would ever meet but he teaches so far over your head 99% of the class complained they couldn't follow along. He pretty much teaches in math textbook speak and seems unable to break it down so introductory stats students can understand. He lesson plan also disorganized and backward compared to other stats professors.
Nicest guy, very approachable. However, he explains things terribly in class, and often get carried away. Very enthusiastic about math and its application. He can chat with you about math for hours.
Very energetic teacher, who often gets off topic. I HATE math, but I enjoyed his class very much. He teaches outside the book and you get graded on your effort just as much as your answers. I got to do my entire math project on the Zombie Apocalypse! Great teacher, but a little quirky:)
Wiseman is by far one of the nicest people I have ever met. Not only does he love what he's doing, but he shows it every day. He comes in smiling and is more than willing to help out when needed regardless on if its his free time or in class. He explains things in a difficult way but the key to understanding is by PAYING ATTENTION!! Great class!
At first I was overwhelmed on the 1st day of class but honestly, this class is EASY! BUT you must be a hard worker and willing to Spend Hours outside of class on his material. If you do his homework everything makes sense. He's really into the class, he goes fast but if you ask for help he will help you going much slower, he cares about your grade
i took this class as a requirement and was told by tom McCollow he is the second best teacher. my class was 2 hours long. there was no textbook he emails u a pdf file a chapter at a time. he's not clear at all and expects u to do your own research to understand. he gives lots of extra credit but expects a lot for it. his SI didn't help . good luck!
Super nice guy, but kind of a mess. All projects assigned are lengthy and vague, and all of his lectures are out of the book (read: PDFs), so there's no point in coming to class except your participation grade. He doesn't have a canvas and takes his sweet, sweet time in grading assignments, so you won't know your grade til the end of the quarter.
I took wisemans class, I am no math expert and was so fearful I would fail his class. Larry is probablly the nicest and most caring professor I have had. The class is very difficult and stats is super confusing, but Larry is there for you. DO ALL YOUR HOMEWORK! show up to class and do well on the projects and you will be fine! hes awesome!
I ended up really enjoying his statistics class even though I normally try to avoid math classes. To be able to do well on his tests you really need to know the material and be willing to spend a quite a bit of time outside class on it. Wiseman is passionate about the subject and really wants you to do well. Don't be afraid to ask questions.
Wiseman is a tough teacher, but he's incredibly smart and cares a lot about his students. His tests typically take at least 2 hrs (my final took 4.5 hrs), but there are no surprises. Offers a lot of extra credit, you must read the book, and if you can do all the homework problems it's not hard to pass or get an A.
I am not a math person at all but I did well in Mr. Wiseman's statistics class. He loves math and likes to make sure that his students get an in depth view of things. He is a little scatterbrained and unorganized so be prepared for that. He cares about his students and wants them to succeed!
EASILY THE WORST PROFESSOR I'LL EVER HAVE. Wiseman is entirely disorganized, talks too fast and is slow to grade absolutely everything(no to mention he's strict with his grading). He doesn't use canvas so you hardly ever know when things are due or what your grade is. His rubrics for projects are lengthy and very vague & HW takes hours.
I am a 4.0 student, and I basically had to teach myself everything in his class. He is a great person, but overall his class provides a lot of difficulty. There is LOTS of extra credit so I stress SO much taking advantage of that, it is the only reason I got my A in the class. He is an upper level prof teaching a lower level class so be prepared.
Wiseman is very disorganized and not good at explaining things. He is an incredibly smart man, just not the best teacher. If you're taking him, I recommend using Youtube, MIT OpenCourseWare, etc. because his lectures were very confusing and vague. Homework takes hours to do. I would not recommend this professor to anybody.
Though he is a nice professor and is very passionate about math, he is just not good at teaching. His lectures are really incoherent and I'd often leave class more confused than when class started. Get ready to teach yourself if you take him because he will not be able to teach you.
Brilliant, lovable, incredibly down to earth, best ever
Stay far away from Wiseman! He is incredibly unorganized, never ready for class, doesn't have a scheduled curriculum whatsoever. Due dates are created on the fly, and are changing at least once a week without a syllabus to refer to. Also uses Email to send assignments only, with no grade book, while taking weeks to grade tests. Find any other prof!
Attendance is mandatory yet you'll be teaching yourself from the book anyway, don't expect to follow along in class
Honestly the only reason Im taking this class is for my major and even then I was contemplated dropping out of the class, hes incredibly unorganized and his lectures arent great at all you have all but 2 secs to write stuff down then he erases the bored before you finish writing
Where to begin? This is the most unorganized class I have ever been apart of. It is organized by following the book, but literally it feels as if he is trying to teach himself as he teaches us. There seems to be no preparation whatsoever before class. Handwriting is poor, and due dates for exams are nonexistent. Good luck.
Don't take this class.
Very hard to follow lectures goes way too much into detail and rambles, things he chose to teach for math 107 were seemingly pointless and a waste of time. Passionate but not a good at teaching at a beginners level or teaching people who struggle with math.
Literally worst prof I've ever had. I have received no grade status all quarter despite begging, disorganized and tangent filled. The material is pointless. Boring. The mandatory lab is no help, all you do is talk. Time waster. No progress, no graded assignments. Teach everything to yourself. Few hw and only 2 tests, no dates. No schedule.
He doesn't know how to teach. For his lectures, he goes over his scanned notes and expects us to follow along. Strong warning, do not take his class.
Great guy, lousy prof. I had a 4.0 GPA coming into this class, and I can honestly say that teaching style rather than content is what sunk me. Most of the material was understandable enough, but we had very little time on anything and Wiseman's delivery is all over the place. He knows his stuff, but I wouldn't recommend unless you're a math person
Honestly Wiseman's class is no more or less difficult than any other math class. He loves math and is good at teaching it, and is available to help you understand it if you need the extra help. Fair grader. Tests weren't as difficult as homework. Plenty of extra credit opportunities. Would take again 10/10.
Man I see a lot of reviews hating on my guy here, but truly I would say he has been one of my best math teachers, super nice guy, outgoing, and answers all of your questions GRANTED yes he does go off tangent a lot of times, who cares hes a nice guy and is very helpful and has an EXCELLENT line of communication by far the best I have ever got tbh
I took Larry during Fall quarter 2020 and I would say he's probably one of the best instructors I've ever had at Pierce. He was very understanding and wanted to make sure everyone was comfortable. He wasn't tough on grading at all. Just do your work and you'll pass. The lectures were a bit of a drag. Other than that, he was an awesome teacher.
If you know whats good for you avoid Wiseman at all costs. Worst math professor I have ever had, take under NO CIRCUMSTANCES. Expected 30 hours of homework a week, Ignored our class concern of a time crunch then proceeded to test us on a FINAL 9 sections that we had 1 week to understand and learn, that he spent 15 minutes a section on.
Despite being a very friendly person outside of the classroom and being quite generous, Wiseman did not know how to teach. Lectures were disorganized and all over the place with a heavy load of over 300 problems throughout the quarter, each taking up to 15-20 min. Class was unprepared for the final with 8 sect. covered in a week. Take someone else.
He was nice and seemed to enjoy teaching, but was very unorganized. He taught mostly from videos he made that were bad quality and hard to follow. I did not receive a grade until after the quarter ended. If you do the work you should be fine, but the class is weird and was what I expected.
While yes professor wiseman was a very nice professor, there were many issues I had with his class. He would give out anywhere from 6-10 assignments a week and not show us anything the class how to do any of the assignments. This was an issue for most of the students I talked to, Avoid this professor at all costs!
Lots of assignments, mostly watching videos online and giving feedback on them. Rarely would these videos be discussed in class. Very late grader—I didn't know any of my grades until after the final exam.
He doesn't effectively work with students who need accommodations. videos used in the course are outdated, from 2020, making them hard to follow. The homework is heavy, and he doesn't explain things in class. We are also still waiting on grades. It the end of the quarter he should grade assignments as the term goes along so we can make things up.
I really liked the professor, he is incredibly kind and understanding. The grading bothered me because I like to be on top of my grades. But when we talked about it he was very reassuring that I was doing well. as long as you show up and try your best you should do fine.
Really nice and funny guy, but I hated his course. Don't know your grade until the end of the quarter & Canvas is very confusing! The math isnt hard, but there's so much work and all lectures are online. Midterm and final are low-pressure. I DO NOT recommend this class for running start students or if you don't have very much time outside of class.
He assigns almost 3 hours of homework to be done every night. He doesn't grade anything nor give good feedback. It is currently week SIX and nothing has been graded. Also, he doesn't teach. Every night, we're assigned 3-4 15-minute videos to watch that he made back in 2020, so not only is everything outdated, but it's difficult to get help.
Larry is a really great guy in general, he gave me an extension period after final grades were submitted to submit my final. Though his course was tough and wouldn't recc. He gives us videos with poor audio and video quality which makes it really hard to learn from them, nothing gets graded until weeks later nearing the end of the quarter.
Somewhat heavy course load (5+ assignments a week) but no feedback. Not a single assignment was graded until week 8 of an 11 week course & no feedback was given until after all assignments were due. We took our midterm week 4, we didn't get our grades until week 9. Larry is super understanding and a great guy but hard to work with as a teacher.
